Yes absolutely!! I just love the Dear {Blank} episodes in general, they're so charming to watch, but something about Dear Sigmund especially touched my heart. Every time Alan is on the writing or directing credits I just know we're gonna get something good! (And probably a bit emotional). I'm so excited for the few more Sid episodes left, and of course I love me some angst and heavy emotions, so I think I'll enjoy it all.

Sam and Sid really do give off old married couple energy, especially in Deal Me Out. I can only imagine the first time both of them end up at the poker table and just end up so relieved that they've got someone a little closer in age. Not that they don't love the younger guys, they very much do, but sometimes it probably gets obvious they're friends with younger men 😅

All of the fics you recced were actually titles that caught my eye when I glanced through your works! I for sure made a mental note to add those to my mental TBR list, and the fact that you seem to enjoy them that much means they definitely just jumped to the top!

And yes, I've absolutely been enjoying my watchthrough. I watched the show a lot with my parents growing up (and have had a crush on Hawkeye from the very beginning 😅) so it holds a very special place in my heart, but this is my first time actually going through in order and dipping into the fandom and I really love that people are so active with it! Every episode I watch just makes me more and more in love with it!

The Dear episodes get me also!! I know sometimes people wish that we had gotten more of the response from home instead of these monologue episodes going outward instead, but goodness, I love them a lot.

Also we are shaking hands haha, my mom's favorite show growing up was this show, so I have always been Familiar with it, and my dad bought me a fun DVD set of them back in, fuck, 2012? And I would watch S1 through S3 a lot but would trickle off and never get further (hello, undiagnosed ADHD). So this is my first time watching through instead of just seeing random reruns on TV, and I started at S4 to MAKE myself see episodes I hadn't seen before, and it has been such a goddamn delight.

It did take me seven months to watch all of S8. But that's fine hfkdsef I will get back to S9 when I get this goddamn WIP finished

however!!! unlike previous intros, there are very few enemies featured, even major ones, besides the opening shots that summarize the previous seasons. either the show is keeping its antagonists very close to the chest, or the main conflict may come from the effect of this artifact, rather than a character with agency

where before there were shots of minor enemies, now there are shots that appear to be from swk's past, which means BACKSTORYYYYY AND I AM LOSING IIIIIIIIITTTT

FINAL THOUGHTS!!!!!!!! between the flashbacks and the period-style outfits, seems like that scroll thing's effects have something to do with time travel, and the gang gets blasted to the past. my impression is that they either get powers, or are imbued with their predecessor's powers in the possible case that they take their places, cause of the whole, black goop thing. and it looks like we might even get a full history on swk, before the journey to the west takes place!!!!!

I'm so excited for those more familiar with the mythology to parse far more information than this, such as what artifact that black scroll actually is, the black goop, who is in front of (what I believe to be) the jade emperor in the fight with demon buddies, predictions for how that information might effect the plot, etc

9: Do they swear? Do they remember their first swear word? They don't swear much tbh! Only occasionally when very upset or sometimes when super excited. They do remember their first swear at least within the period they remember, they probably picked it up from a frustrated scientist in the facility :P

38: What memory do they revisit the most often? Vince was the first person to ever be kind to her and treat her like a person instead of an experiment. She really treasures that memory. She also has plenty of bad memories from her time in captivity that she has a really hard time moving past.

B: What inspired you to create them? I actually made her as a potential d&d character a long time ago! This is art from 2020, when I first came up w them. I thought it would be an interesting concept for a wild magic sorcerer. At one point I realized I could rework her into bite club bc I'd probably never play her, so I changed her a bit and gave her new life. I'm super glad I did! I love bite club Vii so much ^_^

D: Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look? I kinda just answered this one above :-)

32: Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke? I think she has a few jokes she loves to tell that she thinks are SO funny but no one that isnt at least 200 yrs old really gets them. She never stops telling them though

40: How sensitive are they to their own flaws? It depends! Most things roll off her pretty easily, but she's very touchy about things relating to people she failed to protect in the past. She also really doesn't like to be told that she's wrong about things. She considers herself to usually be the wisest person in the room simply based off how long she's lived, but she still makes mistakes.

G: What trait of theirs bothers you the most? How over-protective of Jamie they are. She sees it as protecting a mortal she cares about, but Jamie gets very frustrated and sees it as her viewing him as unable to protect himself bc of his disabilities. It bothers me bc like... I am also disabled and know how shitty that kind of thing feels. They talk it out though :-)

H: What trait do you admire most? She loves so fiercely and never lets it go. She is still so dedicated to someone who died hundreds of years ago and would do anything for them even after they've passed. Even though she can be a little misguided about this i still think its sweet :')

13: What color do they think they look best in? Do they actually look best in that color? Gold. 100% gold. Ze does look pretty good in it, but ze's also pretty tacky about it. Most of hir clothes are black and/or gold.

27: What causes them to feel dread? It takes a lot to really shake him. He thinks of himself as unstoppable and invincible. However, when the gang actually starts to get closed to fucking him up in s3, that illusion shatters and his whole outlook changes. He stops being suave and overly sure of himself and gets nervous and aggressive and full of dread and goes after the gang much harder than before.

11: How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)? She definitely pretends she understands then googles it later lmao.

18: What embarrasses them? Being wrong or making mistakes in front of others. He's Never embarrassed about sharing his writing or art though, regardless of the quality.

19: What is their favorite number? Hm. 16 or 32. this is off the cuff and has no significance skdjhfs

15: How do they speak? Is what they say usually thought of on the spot, or do they rehearse it in their mind first? Usually a little manic, very rambly and goes into tangents often. They tend to think out loud a lot.

Send a character ask game: Taza & Nestor

Taza Romero-

First impression: When I first started watching Mayans, I didn't really have any strong feelings about Taza one way or the other. I liked the chill energy and vibe that he gave off, but he wasn't a character that I initially felt very drawn towards.

Impression now: I wanna shake the man by his shoulders in the hopes it will knock some sense loose in his head. 😂 So much could've been avoided or at least handled differently if he just talked about what was going on! However that being said, I do really enjoy his character and I'm curious to see what they're going to do with his storyline next.

Favorite moment: Early seasons quips with Bish will always have a special place in my heart. And the little exchange with him and Creeper will always be a top-ranking moment for me 😂

Idea for a story: I have a request for him sitting in my inbox right now that I'm hoping to get started on today that I'm very excited about! Being able to build his character out a little more and give him a current (and less-heartbreaking) love story is something I'm super thrilled about getting into.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think it's necessarily unpopular but I think the fact that Taza didn't rock Bishop's entire shit at some point during s4 was a crime. I wanna see the man throw hands at the ex-president idc 😂

Favorite relationship: Early seasons I can easily say that he and Bish were my favorite. But I did also love the complicated relationship between him and Laura as well.

Favorite headcanon: It's come to my attention that never in the show is it ever actually stated that Taza lives on a ranch. But the actor who plays him does and that's just bled over into the characterization of the character for a lot of people in the fandom (myself included) and I really love that for us.

Nestor Oceteva-

First impression: Believe it or not, I was pretty indifferent about Nestor at first. I wasn't overly drawn to his character because he was so entwined with Galindo and I've disliked Miguel from the jump lmao. When I first got into the show, I definitely thought he was very attractive, and that scene where he and Bishop fight and smile afterwards definitely made me 👀 But he wasn't really on my radar at first.

Impression now: I love him, your honor. He's my character now, sorry Elgin. But real talk, the arc that he's had so far for someone who is such a minor character is really interesting to me.

Favorite moment: What isn't my favorite moment? 😂 I do really love the exchange with him and Marcus (I think it's in s2?) after they save Marcus from Hobart. A very close runner-up is the scene in s3 where Nestor has the gun to Marcus's head in the car because Gino's acting in that scene is just soooo chef's kiss. But the sweet moment between the two of them wins out for me

Idea for a story: I wish I could let y'all lose inside my head so you could take the plot ideas you like and write them because I never know if I'm going to get around to them all 😂 I have a few different AU's bouncing around in my head where Nestor has a younger sister and godddd I love the potential in the dynamic so much

Unpopular opinion: If Nestor never sees Miguel again it will still be too soon. That man never gave a fuck about Nestor and I'm glad Nestor dumped his ass 😂 (Miguel really is my enemy #1 in the show I love to hate him so I'm biased lmao)

Favorite relationship: Nestor and Marcus. I love the growth of that dynamic and I think that Marcus could be the mentor that Nestor has always needed.

Favorite headcanon: Bruh anything family-based for Nestor is an absolute fave of mine. I love thinking about what his relationship with his brother was like (and by extension Miguel as well). I love the idea of him with a younger sister. I love thinking about how complicated his relationship with his parents might be. UGh the family drama thoughts I'm obsessed

Hello and thank you! This AU was entirely an exercise in self-indulgence for me, and I'm absolutely thrilled that it's made other people happy as well. (Honestly, I was expecting to lose some people with this second fic and the heavy foreshadowing of my favourite pool noodle of a ship, Joyce/Bob/Hopper, but instead I had three separate people tell me they hadn't considered the ship but now they were invested in seeing it happen in the AU, which I am counting as the biggest of wins.)

You read that right, I am wrapping it up after the third part. I've made some significant changes to the plot of season 3 (which...would have had to have happened anyway, considering how many things are different going in), and I'm hoping they'll make the antagonists and themes of the third part a better match to the first two and wrap the AU up nicely with a bow and a cherry on top. I still (yeah, still) haven't finished s4, because I'm still grumpy about it, but I have borrowed a couple of cues from one of the directions it took that I did like.

Having not finished s4 yet, I also have to say I'm not particularly invested in its new characters or in shipping them, and I'm not going to make them a big part of the storyline. I'm more concerned with making sure the characters I've already got in play in the AU get a fair shake and a satisfying ending. With that said, though, I haven't been living in a total bubble, I'm not made of stone, and I know people are excited to see Eddie and Chrissy. So. Don't expect much, but I'm not gonna totally leave them out, either. (ETA: I reread this and it sounds like such a bummer, lmao. Does it help if I say I got the BIGGEST evil grin when I finally figured out what to do with Eddie, and I’m reprising that evil grin thinking about how you’re going to react when you get to see it?)

As for the mall...it's a big part of s3, and also, I've been badly nostalgic for the malls of my youth (you know, before half or more of the stores were empty wherever you went and the general aura whenever you set foot inside one was of slow decline and misery). So yeah, Starcourt's absolutely still going to be a big part of the action. What that means for each of the characters, individually or otherwise, I'll leave you to speculate on, for now!

i do have another obvious character i wanna see again, and that's tide. i'm really sad we didn't get to see any of the past 10 months, including william and vyncent finding out that tide had been depowered. i want to learn more about that, but from his end, and i want to know what's been up with him since. bizly better have made that one tweet just to be mean...

and on a related note, i wanna see the prime force again. or any of the other heroes who showed up at the end of s1 who william and vynce told to fuck off. it got brought up in one of the rolleds that if the issue with the chaos demons spreads enough, it might draw the attention of the prime force/other major heroes the boys know. i’d love love love for the PDs to have to team up with them again and to see some tensions between the heroes, a hostile william and vyncent, and dakota—the only one of the three who accepts the reasoning that the heroes were all always too busy to help them before. (i am lightheartedly shaking my fist at grizzly for the ending of the zeroes to heroes oneshot bc oof he wasn’t kidding in the rolled for ep24 he doesn’t get itttttt)

i wanna see summer again too! william kept going to school after s1, but what happened to her? the PDs tried to warn her how dangerous getting involved with their superhero business was, but she still viewed it as mostly something to spice up her otherwise boring normal life, and so she poked her nose in anyway. and then she got kidnapped. i want to see her again so we get even just a glimpse of how she’s holding up and if she’s been deterred from inserting herself into superpowered situations now or not. or maybe her memory got wiped, so she doesn’t even remember anything that would endanger her? (idr, was there a time range limit on the use of the memory devices, or no?) i think it’d be cool if she was put into some sort of witness protection program and the boys ran into her living under a new identity. (i don’t expect that to be canon or anything, just throwing it out there as a cool hypothetical bc we literally have no clue what happened with her!!)

and!! i wanna see mark again!!! really really bad. i know all of the guys hate mark, but i like him and i wanna see him again in s3, although idk what the context will be. i was really confused when he winked at the boys in the supermax?? because with the way the woman who was walking them around the prison spoke about him—that he hasn't spoken much and it might not be a good idea to let him have visitors—it made me think "aw man, he's in a horrible place. makes sense." i'm positive that mark is gonna come back, since bizly hinted at it when someone (i think charlie) brought up that they don't know what happened to him since the prison break, and surely he's not dead. i was hoping that we might have a confrontation with him later on where he blames the boys for ashe being gone, but that doesn’t add up with the wink. hey, beebo?? what was with the wink???

then there’s. mal. he’s definitely gonna show up again, and i’m excited for it, but in the “i’m excited to be pissed off” kinda way. i want to see mal looking even rougher than he did in his appearance in s2 so i can shout “L!!” and make the L gesture at the screen, because yes it’ll technically mean bad things because the trickster will be gaining power but also get FUCKED, mallard conway. smarmy bastard. also also, if he touches william again, i am going to Scream. i need that man to evaporate.

I can't wait for you to see the whole scene and hear your thoughts. It's so damn heartbreaking. Like Rin seems honestly excited to tell Haru about his decision (and happy to meet him randomly in general) and then what unfolds is just... Oh man it's like watching a happy puppy get kicked. And since up until that point in the movie Rin hasn't seen Haru's angst much cuz he genuinely seems happier with Rin around so no wonder he doesn't see it coming. THEY NEED A CATHARTIC CRYING SESSION I SWEAR

I recently also saw the middle part too (soon, soon, I'll see it all xD). From the moment Rin says "you think making these decisions is easy for me". It's not okay... but dang, I really loved the moment, when Haru starts shaking, then breathes out and evil smile appears on his face. I'm... 👀.

And I get that Rin's always happy to see him, but I don't know how after thinking about it so much, he decided to go about it like this lmao. I'm just facepalming so hard. I've read the transcript of the before that too and I really do not get why he said what he said in that particular moment and once again who even does this like that, I mean.. that was such a weird idea seriously. Like ok, you already decided whatever you decided and it apparently doesn't concern us and his problems also don't concern us, but he could've at least start like "it was a hard decision to make, but in order to swim in the future with you I decided... lalala", he instead just dropped the bomb after Haru said "that's why together we..." and Rin went "yeah, about that, I won't be there". He was practicing this all that time? Oh god, this is just... I have no words for these two tbh. ComMUnICaTiON.

I bet this time Rin was like "okay, I've prepared this whole speech, and we're gonna have a moment.. and oh, under our tree too". I like how he after dropping the bomb and making him split, backed himself up with the whole "Ikuya thinks so too. We both decided it." ARE YOU PLANING A FUTURE WITH IKUYA, RIN? IS HE YOUR SPECIAL SOMEONE? YOUR SHINING? YOUR BABY? I DO NOT GET. "I want to swim with you next year and in the future"... ehmm thanks on that at least haha. Haru just went "ok, you zip it" lmao

Tbh if I were Haru I'd smack him on the head back in s3 already, when he jumped from behind this wall with "Yo, Haru"xD. But he's always so happy when he's back or when they spend time together, that he always decides not to darken any of them with conflicts about "why are you like this", but now it finally overflowed... a bit lmao. Like same was in s2, too, when everything seemed fine and and he was like "here's your sakura pool, baby" and Rin was flirting with him by the bus, and meanwhile we were literally dying inside watching him from afar all that time. And then several months later Haru was like "gtfo with your future, you moron" and Rin is like "😭 baby, I don't get what I did". ahahaa its a bit funny. I esp love when he doesn't talk with us for months and then casually comes in like they were drinking tea together an hour ago lol. It maybe was funny like in s1 when he pretended to be cool about stuff with his "yo, Haru, still hanging out with these losers?" but like now can we stop with trying to be casual about stuff already. I mean, I in 5 minutes could've come up with at least 3 ways of saying it in a way it wouldn't hurt nobody.

Not only he already decided, but he discussed it with a random person before him and he's already found a sponsor and.. omg. Too bad for Haru he misunderstood everything about who they are for each other, I guess.

But fuck, evil!Nanase just fully executed him there. It's just from reviews and summaries I thought he went just around the Rin leaving part so it could be connected to what started the conlict, but he just simply did everything to hurt him as bad as possible. Like damn, he fucking started by giving him flashbacks about his 2x09 "what dream? what future? I'm not you" with his "I can't live like you" and Rin just looked so lost, having all the memories he brought on and he didn't even get what brought this on. It all happened too fast tbh. And then Haru just finished him. Like all the hits were too precise, but the fact that Rin fully lost it only on the moment, when he has s1 flashbacks of hurting Haru says it all tbh.

My point is the whole fight had just... another nature that I thought it originally would be. Bc Haru intentionally made him remember worst moments that are related to him. That's why it changes my point of view on the situation and backs up my previous post about Rin.

Evil!Haru might be evil, but if you combine it, he just basically told him what I said yesterday "if you're planning to make decisions on your own and I'm not a part of your life, then I can't live like that and we don't see the same future for us. you keep coming into my life, bringing this sureness about our future and act like you're a part of it, but then you always leave." He just roasted him, but it's like truth tho lol

Like watching Haru screaming and dying inside while saying that was very heartbreaking, but it doesn't change the fact that it is what it is. Even when Haru is angry in a like "normal" way, he when he says something ugly, he tbh never exactly says what he doesn't mean like many, he mostly not at all far off from the truth, he just tries to slice Rin back, but this time, he just fully dissected him. Like holy fuck, dude.

But he was waiting for so long for him, then thought "I finally have him", but he mostly not there again, except when it's job related, if I heard his "oh btw I've decided this", I'd cry for sure. But murdering him is also an option, I guess lol.

One already has a crying session, it aint cathartic tho, it's painful. But at least Rin now agrees with us about the fact, that he's an idiot haha.

I in no way say that he deserved this, bc the way Haru worded everything is just hell on earth, but at least we all know now that evil!Haru is well aware of what is the most painful way to kill Rin... play on the fact that he loves Haruka Nanase too much. LMAO you gotta admit that it's a bit funny. I've only seen couples do stuff like this before. So it's like... very harsh angst, but it's a mega win too.

I bet Rin will for sure cry after Haru comes back and says that he loves him. But I agree, I also want Haru to cry in relief with hugs from Rin and all. I need lots of happiness at the end... like LOTSSSS. We also all need a theraputic fluff after this.

Free! The Final Stroke screeching/reaction (spoilers)

AHHHHH I JUST WATCHED THE FINAL STROKE MOVIE TODAY IN THEATERS ON PREMIER DAY AND IT WAS LAKSJDFOAIFJWOEI to summarize it all, it was Very Gay, which was to be expected but they DID NOT have to get so freaking extra with it 😩😩😩

much screaming and many spoilers ahead

FIRST OF ALL, KIRISHIMA NATSUYA: HE WAS SO FUCKING HANDSOME DAFKJOIEFJOSIDJF. SO HANDSOME. SO HANDSOME AND STUPID AND OVERLY FRIENDLY AS WE LOVE HIM TO BE ALKDSJFOAIEW.

he was in the film for a total of maybe 5 minutes altogether, which was kind of a lot bc the film kind of was just putting all the characters back in for the sake of putting them in imo? for the fans, lol. so everyone could see their faves. and in these five minutes that he appeared, our mans:

bragged about his little brother he's so proud of

got laughed at by nao for being natsuya (aka dumb and straightforward) as usual

trained with sousuke (he was hanging out in the same pool with him, nao, and makoto to train and aid in sousuke's rehab training)

got a call from ikuya after the international swimming competition in sydney!!!! in that same cafe he's always at!!!! and he was with nao at the time he got the call. casual and cool as always, being the cool big brother or whatever. he ended the call with a curt, "you got it. see you. don't catch a cold."

HE WAS HANGING OUT AT CAFE MARON WHILE THEY WAITED FOR THE SYDNEY COMPETITORS TO COME BACK TO JAPAN. HE WAS BEHIND THE COUNTER WITH ASAHI (WHO WAS HOLDING BABY TSUKIMI IN A CARRIER ON HIS CHEST!!!!!) AND HE THREW HIS ARM AROUND ASAHI AND WAS GETTING SO CLOSE LIKE ALKSDJFAOIEJAOEI. I have absolutely no clue what he was saying at the time bc i was too busy freaking out and trying to hold in the sounds bc the theater was so quiet. but his GODDAMN FACE. HE WAS SMIRKING. SO HANDSOME 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩

and of fucking course, they were all out together at a restaurant when the sydney competitors came back, and he was like, "wth no one else is drinking alcohol tonight?" and nao was like "ofc not haha" AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

HE FUCKING FALLS ASLEEP AT THE TABLE AFTER DRINKING AND EVERYONE IS SURROUNDING HIM AND PATTING HIM LIKE "dude..." and ikuya is sitting there like, omg can't believe this mess is my brother....

i thought that just might be his last scene in the film but then we show back up to the kirishima household and natsuya is eating some sort of luxury holiday(?) bento and ikuya is like "aren't you gonna save any for me?" and natsuya's like "of course not. this is for me, you gotta wait until next year xD" and then ikuya just fucking SNATCHES up several different foods and stuffs his face with all of them and natsuya starts arguing with him over them laskjdfoawiefjao where was this brotherly affection all this time?????

and then cut to a few seconds later, natsuya's bumming in his room on the floor like in s3 when ikuya comes in and tells him about his new future goals and alskdjfaoei brothers sharing their ambitions together 😩😩 WHAT IS GOING ON. EVERYONE GETS ALONG SO WELL NOW???

NEXT: we'll go back to the beginning i guess lmfao but they're preparing for some sort of university festival

we start off with an easily misunderstandable shoujo-style situation where asahi is talking to ikuya like, "i know it's your first time... you don't have to be nervous. i know you can do it." and ikuya's like "no! i can't 😣" like the tsun he is backed up against the wall. and then it turns out they're trying to make a mille feuille cake.... but everything he's made so far looked like crepes

and for some damn reason, KISUMI comes outta nowhere into the kitchen and is like "ooooh what's this? a mille feuille cake? although they all look kinda like crepes haha ^^" and then ikuya RUNS THE FUCK OUT OF THE KITCHEN, yelling, "i told you i couldn't do it!!!" like the fucking tsun he is... and asahi is yelling at kisumi like "why did you just say that!!!" and starts rubbing his knuckles into kisumi's head and kisumi's just laughing like, "oh did i do that hehe"

and for some reason... seijuurou is working at the booth in his speedo and swim team jacket. i mean i'm not complaining but sir.... PLS TAKE MY MONEY AND GIVE ME YOUR FAT OCTOPUS BALLS. (he literally started a batter mixing competition with hoshikawa inside the booth, like what are they even doing in the same booth???)

then rin and sousuke show up to ikuya, asahi, and hiyori(?)'s booth, and they're offering them the crepes and then they get into a conversation about smth that leads into them showing the embarrassing photos they have of each other?????? like ikuya has a pic of rin in his maid costume for some reason??? (tho it isn't shown) and rin shows an embarrassing pic of ikuya he has in his phone that he got from natsuya???????????? and then ikuya starts chasing after rin yelling at him to delete it lasdkjfoaei

and then haru is off to the side selling ugly ass bird mascots again lmfao. bc ofc he is. love that weirdo

BUT THE REAL KICKER HERE IS KINJOU!!!!!!!!!!!

APPARENTLY, HIS VILLAIN BACKSTORY COMES FROM HIS CHILDHOOD CRUSH (/exaggerated) ON HIYORI ALSKDJFOAIE WHAAAT. apparently he was that annoying kid in the playground who would go up to hiyori and bother him bc he wanted a friend. bb hiyori was literally like "why are you even talking to me so much?" in his sandbox. and bb kinjou is like, "well there's gotta be smth you like, right? what is it?" and hiyori's like "well i feel kinda happy when i'm swimming... :)" as images of ikuya flash into his mind, that gay ass

BUT KINJOU'S GAY ASS EYES START SPARKLING TOO AND THEN HE'S LIKE "I GOTTA LEARN WHAT THE BIG DEAL ABOUT SWIMMING IS" and he runs home, begs his brother to take him to the pool. but next time he brings his swimming stuff with him to the playground, hiyori isn't there anymore and apparently he left for america at that time (or smth). so poor baby basically got ghosted

but hiyori still knows him when they're older!!!! kinjou shows up when they're throwing out the trash after the uni festival and calls out to hiyori to taught him (which is where that bullying preview scene came from i guess) and alkfjeoiaejoaifj omfg it's like that estranged childhood friends (sorta) trope but it'll never go kinjou's way bc hiyori is and will always be in love with ikuya 😔

kinjou would make such a good yandere tho!!!! he has a feral expression on a few times throughout the movie, and during a race he gets super competitive mid-race and... ngl he was kinda sexy 😳 i'm actually kind of surprised by how taken i was with him in this movie. doesn't help that he's unfairly handsome and his hair looks fucking amazing. i MAY OR MAY NOT be exploring this man in the future..................

i also found the ending with haru pretty interesting!!!! it kind of hints at neurodivergence? smth along the lines of disassociation or multiple personalities? (guess 50% off was kinda right on that end lmfao).

he gets obsessed with beating albert wahlander, which is the most fired up i've ever seen him (to the point of almost hurting himself) and then the shadow or whatever effect albert has on haru kind of just overtakes him and pushes haru out of his own body in a way... it doesn't make sense to describe it this way, i know, but haru is literally watching himself say hurtful things to his friends while being overtaken by this... albert obsessed persona?

it's so interesting to see haru being the one obsessing over someone instead of the other way around for once!!! at the end of the movie (after all the credits) haru says the same thing he once said at the beginning of season 1? about how "at age 5, you're a prodigy. at age 15, you're a genius. at age 20(?), you're average." and this is def gonna be explored/concluded in the second part of the final stroke movie so i'm excited for that!!!! april 2022 come at me!!!!

there were SOOOOO many other things going on, plot wise and fanservice wise, and ofc kyoto animation was fucking TOP TIER SHIT. all the water effects... there was a shot where haru was looking at his reflection in the water and they make a drop fall and spread and shake his reflection in the waves and it was lafkjsefoiaeja fucking glorious. the soundtrack was lovely too. there was a RADWIMPS-esque beginning song and a sexy ass electric guitar buildup for kinjou (which may or may not be contributing to my growing obsession with him...)

AHHHH!!!! it was so good and everyone was so cute and handsome and gay and funny. we literally see every single character we've met before in some way, shape, or form lmfao. i might just go back to the theater and watch it again on one of the upcoming holidays this week.... SO GOOD. SO GOOD.

Ahh cannot believe we’re nearing the end of the curse reverse fic!! Truly wild the passage of time, and also all the twist you threw in. I for one, am very curious as to how everything will shake out in the s3 rewrite since Things Are Not The Same, But Still a Little Bit The Same. Also I love how you give each group equal emotional weight (Dustin and mike!! Robin and Barb!! Joyce and Hopper and Bob!!) (also I love the way you capture that everyone is messy in their own way and that no one is perfect and also Nancy and Jonathan are an innately messy couple, bc I feel like the fandom does not account for the fact that they absolutely are the drama) Anywho! Very excited for tomorrow’s chapter!! I’m considering it a belated bday surprise and rooting for some fun hijinks. I may even treat myself and reread some road goes ever on bc Monster Steve, my beloved.

It's funny you should mention All The Twists, because I feel like this second fic (put your curse in reverse) sticks the closest to canon out of the three fics I've got written or planned in the series. It's possible I've just been too close to it for too long. I will say this though (and may have already said it once before, but shhh), I've made some major overhauls to the plot of season 3. I have a plan and I am tapping the pads of my little raccoon fingers against each other in evil glee about eventually getting to share it. Now to finish writing the darn thing...

I'm so, so glad to hear that the groups feel balanced, emotionally! One of the things I hate most in writing is when you have a clear set of "A" Characters, who Matter, and then a clear set of "B" Characters, who Don't Matter As Much And Are Mostly Here To Be A Punchline. I love all of these idiots and I want to give them all the kind of storytelling they deserve. And even if I don't necessarily like every character on this show (*coughcoughMurraycough*), somebody out there does, and thinks one of my very favourite characters is just the worst and wishes they'd drop off the face of the earth.

(And, you know, there have been times when trying to be fair to a character I have no particular feeling toward or even dislike, in my writing, has led to me finding a new appreciation for them. And...also, sometimes, accidentally convincing myself to ship them. You will not find any fic for Murray Bauman/Sam Owens on AO3, I'm sure, because I have not written it yet...but oh my god. You guys. Have you thought about how much potential for both hilarity and angst this pairing could have? Because I have. Against my will.)

Speaking of "A" Characters and "B" Characters, part of that dichotomy that I've noticed is that "A" Characters aren't allowed to fuck up. They're always ultimately proven right. Or, if they do do something wrong, it's always because they were given the wrong information, or intentionally misled, or someone else forced them into it. They never just...make a bad decision, or miss a shot, or act on a negative emotion and do something stupid they'll regret, or just plain trip and fall on their face. And "B" Characters basically can't not fuck up. They're there entirely to cause the problems that the "A" Characters have to solve, and then go 'oh the cleverness of you' at the "A" Characters. This is my least favourite kind of storytelling, and if you want to see a textbook example of it in the wild, just watch Thor: The Dark World. (Except don't actually do that, because I wouldn't intentionally inflict that on anyone.)

The best and easiest way to break down the dichotomy between "A" Characters and "B" Characters and get characters who start to live and breathe and act like Actual Human People, in my experience, is to make sure that every single one of your characters is a bit stupid about something. Something that matters enough to come up, not, like, something that will never affect the story they're part of. And if you've created a character who can't take a pie to the face and continue to be interesting to read about, you're probably not there yet.

Anyway! Thank you for that opportunity to soapbox. That very long rant all to say: yes Jonathan and Nancy are messy as hell, and they're much more interesting that way. Happy belated(?) birthday, enjoy the hijinx, and an enthusiastic hell yes to Monster Steve!
