Good evening and Happy Friday! I've been following you for some time and I thought I should come out to say, you are doing a great job with Miki! You are a sharp writer as well as a splendid artist!
If I may, I wanted to ask a few questions about Miki. You need not answer them all in one post.
What inspired you to conceive Miki? Can you describe your creative process in developing her character?
Did you know that there is a Wiki page for Naruto OCs? It's called the Naruto OC Wiki (NOW). Have you considered writing and sharing a bio for Miki on that site?
How would you describe Miki's spiritual and philosophical leanings? With her birthday being December 3rd, this would make her a Sagittarius, the archetype for which appears as an centaur/archer whose passions include travel, learning, and faith. That would be her Sun sign, at least.
Following up from the above question, what made you decide to give her that particular birthday?
Thanks so much for sharing and keep up the great work!
Aw thank you so much! To answer your questions:
1.Miki was (and is still) a bleach OC first, actually. The conception of her existence comes from me making her wayyyy back in high school. She still exists as bleach OC, if you were to google her name, her wiki page for the bleach OC wiki will actually come up as the top result, lol. The Naruto version, which you know here, actually started just as an AU verse on her bleach rp blog because I had been a long time fan of Naruto and wanted to get into the rp community on that side as well. Funnily, I've been a fan of Naruto longer than bleach but none of my shitty middle school OCs stuck, haha. I eventually made the decision to split the AU verse from her bleach blog so I could flesh the Naruto version out further without mixing up and convoluting with my bleach stuff. So as for creative design there wasn't a whole lot because I had kind of already designed her, mostly I just fuddled around until I had an outfit for her I liked. From there she really kind of diverged. Even though she shares the same appearance and name as her bleach counterpart, I consider them two wholly different OCs if that makes sense. Her personality and mannerisms differ quite a bit and of course more obviously her backstory, upbringing, powers, and job are all completely different. They do share the same obsession for plants though, that never changes, lol.
2. I did! I actually started making a page but got distracted and haven't finished it. I hate messing with HTML but I will eventually go back and finish it, lol.
3. Miki doesn't consider herself religious in any capacity and maybe only vaguely spiritual. Like, she believes there is an afterlife and that your soul departs for it after you die but she doesn't necessarily think your actions on earth affect that (not like heaven/hell), but generally believes you should be good while living. She maybe has some conventional superstitions that are commonly accepted within the general people. As for her star sign, I'll be honest, I'm not an astronomy person at all and don't really know anything about it so I don't really take into account the star signs or how people believe it affects a person at all. I will say she does like learning and travel though, so I guess it works.
4. Her birthday is December 3rd because that was Bleach Miki's birthday and I never bothered to change it. I picked a winter birthday because her last name means "winter field". It's not any deeper than that 😂. I was like 15 when I made her name.

Hello, in the anime Karin said she was attracted to men based on the quality of their chakra. Sasuke's chakra used to impress her while Suigetsu's disgusted her. After Sasuke tried to kill and then abandoned her, she briefly met Naruto. She was dazzled by how bright and warm his chakra was. What would you think about a Naruto/Karin pairing.
Hello!! I occasionally get people spontaneously asking me to write this pairing, so in order not to fan the flames of whatever is going there, I want to make it clear that I have no interest in ever writing this ship. It’s just not my thing. I know you are not asking for fic, OP, but for some reason every few months I get a DM asking for NaruKarin fic and I just want to make that clear.
That being said, I do think Karin’s comment on Naruto’s chakra is better canon basis for a ship than... most ships LMAO. On the other hand, I don’t think Karin would be very attracted to Naruto on the basis of his personality. Like, I think the IC way this would go is
Karin: Ooh~ nice chakra~ Naruto: (opens his mouth) Karin: Never mind, I hate it.
This of course doesn’t mean the ship can’t work, just that anyone who takes on writing it is going to have to either spend a lot of time developing their relationship, or else lean on tropes to expedite them getting to together (soulmate AU, trapped-together-AU, arranged marriage, etc). These are all very fun ways to write a ship!! And I do approve of tsundere ships. :3
I haven’t really thought too much about what sort of ships suit Naruto (and he’s, you know, the main character so he’s basically a fandom bicycle anyway). His crush on Sakura indicates he doesn’t mind at all if people yell at him for being a dumbass, so Karin being mean initially isn’t necessarily a deterrent. (Although if the relationship progresses, it’s important he’s not constantly asking her out like he was with Sakura, and that Karin grows enough of a soft spot she’s not actively an asshole to him.) Teen!Naruto has the fascinating ability to both intuit people’s feeling completely and then also somehow not pick up on them at all, and Karin strikes me as someone who has a “well, you should just k n o w how I feel” attitude, which could lead to massive arguments, so I do think both of them would have to mature a bit for this ship to be a long-term thing rather than just a fling? You could do this in-text or you could just write something post-canon when they’ve both grown and had their personalities mellow out.
The obvious connection between the two is both being Uzumaki, so if I were writing this (which, again, I will not be doing), I’d probably have them visit Uzushio’s ruins together. It’d be a fun way to isolate them together and do some cool world-building. I would approach it more like “children of a diaspora mutually longing for a connection to a culture neither of them got to grow up with,” instead of “getting to know a relative” for... obvious reasons.
Also I would really need to see Sasuke’s reaction. u.u (Additional crack idea: Karin is a woman scorned and decides she is going to Steal Sasuke’s Man.)

i think the "kishimoto accidently made them gay" thing has become more prevalent bc sasusakus push those interviews of kishimoto saying tht sns was based off his relationship with his brother and interviews of VAs of sasuke and sakura saying that kishimoto told them that SS is going to be endgame when they had just started recording for the anime , to "prove" that kishimoto never intended for sns to come off s romantic
I disagree because shonen shippers in general say shonen is accidentally gay lol.
No one still has provided any actual sources for either of those interviews and since there are many fake ones I'll doubt them. There's literally a fake interview that says Kishi originally meant to put Sasuke with Karin that people still pass as legit. Also, let's not pretend these seiyuus aren't supposed to promote the canon pairings as well. Literally, they keep saying how the manga isn't about romance yet everyone kept talking about PAIRINGS even 3 years since the manga ended and assuring everyone how everything was "totally" planned. If it's planned it wouldn't need to be justified by SJ all the time. Did you see Toriyama or Togashi have multiple interviews how they totally planned their main character to end up with someone? Or any other shonen mangaka?
Anyway let's look at how "consistent" Kishimoto is with being honest in his interviews:
Tumblr media
This interview is from 2014. He says Sakura was brought in as heroine.
Tumblr media
This interview is from 2017. So suddenly Sakura went from heroine to not anymore special than someone like Kiba lmao.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this is what he said at the end of 2014. Apparently he was considering NaruSaku. Also he says "we" ? So I guess the staff has an opinion on the endgame as well. So much for SS being planned since the start.
Tumblr media
2017. "Never thought"? When you said three years ago you and the staff considered it.
Tumblr media
So here in 2015 you say it was decided around in the middle. But then in 2017, it was suddenly the early stages.
Tumblr media
From 2015 (same interview where he said NH was decided from the middle). If Kishi can lie to his own wife, what stops him from lying in general? To be honest he's probably laughing in his pile of cash at everyone fuming and fighting over his interviews. If even his main character's endgame wasn't decided what makes people think SS was. Also it wouldn't change the fact he didn't put it on paper, it's actually worse if he had 15 years of time to develop it and he did nothing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The above interview was in 2006. Where does his brother fit exactly? Or his wife? This was also written before Kushina appeared, whom Kishi said was "kind of like his wife, scary". The second interview is from early 2014. So Naruto is Kishi himself and his wife is Naruto's... mother? Why don't people freak out about this? Regardless, Kishi can write brother relationships that are clearly just brotherly, like Hashirama/Tobirama, Sai/Shin, Itachi/Sasuke. Naruto and Sasuke's relationship isn't like them. It's romantic, which is why so many people, even people who don't ship, even straight men, point out how gay they are.
Also Kishi straight up sexualizes Sasuke and also wanted to draw them kissing because "no one had done it before"? Why would anyone sexualize or want to draw their self insert kiss someone that's supposedly their brother. Hello? And let's not forget how he watches the anime and sees all those opening and endings and doesn't feel like saying "umm that's me and my sibling, please don't do that". Or the OVA where Naruto's crotch lands on Sasuke's face? If you guys seriously think he is too stupid to figure out how all this looks then I don't know what to say really.
Tumblr media
Anyway I trust my ability to tell what's brotherly and what's romantic. 💁🏻

you've mentioned and posted about shipping sasosaku a few times and i was just wondering what your thoughts are on the ship and what it is that you like about it? they're my two fave naruto characters so i love reading literally anything about either of them either alone or as a duo.
Hmm okay yes. So I have done a bit of meta on Sasori ships in general, which includes a section on SasoSaku. (oh fuck did i write a shipping manifesto? who am i??)
So, I'll be honest, the main reason I ship SasoSaku is that I like all the Sakura/Akatsuki pairings. I just like the idea of a pretty missing-nin watching Sakura beat the shit out of something and going: oh no... she's cute... I like this dynamic because Sakura spends a lot of time wanting to be a generically beautiful and kind and vaguely domestic heroine but she's just not. She's a healer, yes, but she's got a violent streak a mile wide and deserves to have someone who likes the ugly parts of her.
That being said! I don't think Sasori would be the type to watch Sakura clobber someone and fall in love (that's the DeiSaku mood :P). I do think Sasori is a very obsessive person and he's the type that could very easily get fixated on someone like Sakura, who is plain and not all that outwardly special and not from a fancy clan, and kicked Sasori's ass anyway. She went up against his favorite poison and won, twice. She definitely has the sort of anatomical knowledge (& ability to manipulate the human body) and chakra control that could give Sasori's own expertise a run for his money. I can see him becoming obsessed with her very easily.... which isn't a healthy way to start a ship, but any Sasori ship is going to be kind of fucked up.
I struggle more with why Sakura might be into Sasori. In a modern AU, or an extreme canon divergence where Sasori isn't making people into puppets and they meet on friendly terms, I think Sakura might be turned off by his grumpy personality but (regrettably) into that he's 1) pretty, and 2) wicked smart and capable of keeping up with her in conversation. Even the ones where she lapses into medical jargon. And since Sakura is a brainy sort of person, I can see a modern!AU Sakura being sort of into art? Like, in a casual way that normal people are.... so hearing Sasori talk about it as they warm up to each other is like. Compelling to her.
In a more canon-adjacent AU, I think it would take a lot of work and development to make this ship work, but in a way that would be really fun and satisfying to do? So on the one hand: if Sasori becomes obsessed with her, he's going to want to crack her open and look at all her inner workings and make her into a puppet to admire forever. That's just how he appreciates/understands people. And obviously if you want a requited ship, we don't want that to happen. So for Sasori, he has to learn to appreciate Sakura as a person he can go to for conversation and company and advice, and not an object to dissect. "Develop Sasori into someone who likes another human" is, IMHO, step 1 for basically every Sasori ship. XD
On Sakura's end, I never really got the impression ninja education + work includes much about the arts, so I think she'd have to learn to appreciate Sasori as an artist. Like maybe she starts with admiration of his puppetry as a technical skill, but it does have to evolve into her getting the corpse-puppet thing as art, not just a weird application of medical knowledge and admirable weaponry. Art is the most important thing to Sasori, so it's important Sakura be willing (and ideally enthusiastic) to engage with it and be supportive.
But!! Once you've developed them so they're not going to kill each other, I think there's high potential they'd like each other's company! They have a lot of overlapping skills/interests but with very different applications, so I think they could both respect the other and also be interested in each other's lives. Sakura can show Sasori new techniques to repair flesh and bone for his puppets (SO annoying when one breaks and he has to go get a bunch of new femurs), and Sasori can teach her puppet strings. They can talk about their favorite diseases. Sakura can complain about the worst types of poisons for a medic to deal with while Sasori takes notes for his next poison invention. It'd be cute.
