about once a week i have a crisis where i think ive just gaslit myself into thinking im bisexual because i just appreciate the culture or some shit. im just such a boyliker. a boyenjoyer. a boylover, even. and that doesn’t seem to jive with most peoples opinions about bisexuality. women are great!! and nonbinary people great!! but so are men!!

As a grown ass adult who found a home in Heartstopper, I sometimes wonder what my life would’ve been like if this show/the comics existed 20 years ago.

I’m so thankful we all have it now. Amazing that even at my age, I’m healing and being confident in my bisexuality.

even though it’s silly how many times nick nelson says “i’m bi actually” in heartstopper season 2, the presence of that detail is actually so important because it displays the reality for bisexual people coming out, especially if they’re also in a relationship, because people will just assume you’re either gay or straight but like. i’m bi actually. and it just makes nick feel so much more real as a character and really builds on the preexisting sense of relatability already found in the show. in this essay i will-

Hearing Nick say “I’m bi, actually” as people continue to assume he’s gay because he’s in a relationship with a person of the same gender is so important to me as a bi person in a relationship with someone of the same gender.

He doesn’t let anyone sweep his sexuality under a bigger umbrella just because it’s easier for them. Being bisexual is coming out, over and over and over, because almost everyone will take the easy way out and assume you’re gay.

I think what I like most about nicks coming out scene is how his mom (❤️) told him that he didn’t need to tell her he still liked girls in order for her to accept his sexuality. I love how she said it. She wasn’t trying to be mean, she wasn’t ignorant, she just opened up and gave him the support because she wanted to understand and she wanted him to feel comfortable because she knew this was a big step for him. God bless Nick’s mom🫶🫶
