A Ramble about Phase 19 of the Fifteen Manga Ft. Storm Bringer spoilers

Just absolutely cannot get over the 15 manga. I love the light novel so much, but this manga adaptation is so ridiculously amazing. Dazai and Chuuya’s proximity/touching has been amazing of course. I adore the way Hoshikawa draws Dazai and Chuuya as well (my baby boys, especially Chuuya). But these last two chapters with Rimbaud and Verlaine. Like, fuck. The whole “At least, one of them felt that way,” part just hits so much harder in the manga for me, with the art and page placement. And this whole most recent chapter. Like firstly, you don’t have to end every chapter with like Chuuya getting stabbed okay, help me out here.

Comparing the last page of phase 18 with Verlaine and the first page of phase 19 with Chuuya makes it so obvious that Rimbaud is seeing the similarities between them with just that parallel, which is confirmed later with Rimbaud quite literally seeing Verlaine standing behind Chuuya. 

Not to mention in phase 18 the “That’s right Paul, I remember you,” in conjunction with him seeing Verlaine in Chuuya.

Then that flashback with Verlaine carrying Chuuya and Chuuya’s just so small I could cry.

Like, I knew he was small, but he's just so young, I can't. People were experimenting on him. Like, how??

The way Rimbaud wants to ask Chuuya something and Chuuya crouches down to him. Which leads to Rimbaud putting a hand around Chuuya as he tells him to live. How close and personal they are when Rimbaud says all of this just make it feel so much more impactful for Chuuya. Kinda love too that Chuuya isn't just standing over Rimbaud. He's making it obvious he's open to listening.

Rimbaud says a lot of shitty things to Chuuya up to this point, even complaining that he has to kill a kid while only referring to Dazai, completely not acknowledging Chuuya as anything more than Arahabaki. But once he fully remembers what happened with Verlaine, I feel like that’s when Rimbaud remembers what he truly believed about Verlaine and his humanity and how that extends to Chuuya’s humanity. Because Rimbaud’s whole final speech is most definitely things he’d also thought of or told Verlaine before (as I think is confirmed in SB). I think those are Rimbaud’s true thoughts and beliefs on the matter, it just took that long for him to remember the full story and how he felt about it all. Rimbaud saw Verlaine’s struggles with humanity, and now he also remembers why Verlaine betrayed him. And so he tells Chuuya to live, just as Verlaine wanted him to back then, live without the burden of worrying about your humanity or where you came from, because “you are you.” It doesn’t matter if Chuuya (and Verlaine) “are but a pattern etched on the surface of raw power.” In Rimbaud’s mind, and honestly where we eventually end up at the end of SB, is that it really doesn’t matter what your origins are, whether someone is an artificial personality (aka pattern) etched onto raw power, because really everything is some version of a pattern upon the world. And in a word with abilities, a lot of people are a pattern connected to a power. Just as in SB Chuuya decides that even though Adam isn’t human and he knows it, it doesn’t take away from Adam’s actions, his sacrifices, or his dreams. Same goes for Chuuya and Verlaine. Their origins don't affect how human they truly are. Their humanity is significant no matter what. It just took a bit more convincing for Chuuya to get there, a little more than what Rimbaud could offer on his (almost) deathbed.

Anyway, Chuuya holding Rimbaud’s hand as he dies just does things to me. Like, the book described that “Both Chuuya and Dazai quietly listened as if there was something in what Randou (Rimbaud) was saying that they couldn’t allow themselves to miss… Some things, however, would not return to normal: the body of a man who no longer felt the cold, and the hearts of two boys who stood rooted to the spot, staring at him. A gust of wind peered through their souls as it passed them by.”

This page just so well depicts that last line. It truly feels these boys have heard something so monumental, that they won’t ever forget. Standing in the aftermath of their first fight together, hearing these words about humanity that both mean so much to both of them. Dazai’s expressions really convey this to me in the manga, and convey it just so beautifully. And Chuuya being so close to Rimbaud when he speak those words just makes it feel like those words truly are so monumental for him. And also this means that Chuuya fought to kill a man, that to be entirely fair and clear was trying to kill him first, and then held to his hand as he dies, and there’s just something about this added detail that’s so significant to me in portraying the weight of it on Chuuya. Chuuya's connection to Rimbaud is a complicated but important one. But really these words are important for both boys, because let’s not forget that Dazai also struggles with his humanity. Even if he doesn’t have a physical reason to doubt his humanity, like Chuuya, there are many other reasons that he does doubt it. So hearing that all people and all of humanity are really just patterns within the physical world, human or not that’s true of everyone and everything, and that’s important for Dazai to hear too. I think both boys think back to Rimbaud’s final speech quite a bit, if I’m being honest or did for a while.

I am NOT getting over the detail that someone (Chuuya??) put Rimbaud’s scarf on his grave. I just… it does something to me and I love that detail so much. And cutting back to that “You are you” line while Chuuya’s talking to the grave is just so perfect in my opinion, and again just shows the significance of it so, so well. It’s like, he's talking to Rimbaud, complaining about his actions really, and then it cuts to that “you are you” and it just shows almost the contrast I guess between Chuuya feeling unrest at not finding stuff about his past that Rimbaud could’ve given him, but maybe wouldn’t have anyway, and Rimbaud’s statement that those things don’t matter because Chuuya is who he is beyond all that. Also the little dandelion blowing into the wind, to me also signifying a wish being spread.

Anyway, entirely unnecessary to end the chapter with a big knife in Chuuya’s back, thanks. Especially after Chuuya mentions how he’s still exhausted from everything. Like let’s just, stop, please.

went to my first con in 4 years on Friday to meet Kaiji Tang and got a Dazai autograph + video recording of him reading to me. He was the sweetest person (as I knew he would be) and interacting with him was lovely, but also at the same time oh boy it sure was an extremely stressful, ugly wake-up call of what it feels like to live in a world now where everyone around you has blissfully moved on from covid and can enjoy things normally and happily, while you'll forever be trapped in a hellscape of perpetual fear 🫠🫠🫠

Affection: How do they show their love and affection? How intense would it get?

Just like in the Port Mafia Alphabet, Dazai is extremely affectionate and he's probably even more affectionate now.

He loves sitting in your lap, kissing you, buying you gifts and flowers, and he loves having all your attention.

There is some evidence in the manga that kinda implies he's a yandere in canon sooo.

He's kinda like a cat, if he wants your attention he'll get it.

Blood: How messy are they willing to get when it comes to their darling?

ADA Dazai is less likely to kill people now after Oda's death and the promise he made to him. Plus, he can get rid of his competition in ways that don't make him have to kill.

He can literally cut them out of the picture and they'd still be alive.

If he were to kill though, fragments of his former/true self will surface. It'll be scary.

Cruelty: How would they treat their darling once abducted? Would they mock them?

Firstly, you and Dazai would officially be dating once his yandere tendencies sink in, and he wouldn't kidnap you. He'll slowly become more an more possessive and toxic, and that's when you realize what you got yourself into.

Dazai let's you go out on your own, but that's because he makes sure you're painfully aware that anything you do, he'll know or find out about. Dazai is way too smart to hide things from him for long periods of time.

And you're no secret to anyone. Everyone, even his enemies, know about you. So he is a little worried that Fyodor might do something to you when he isn't there.

Darling: Aside from abduction, would they do anything against their darling’s will?

Ehhh, depends.

Dazai is, how can I say this, extremely pushy and persistent. He's a womanizer, and the way he is with the woman he ask to do a double suicide with, he'll do the shit to you but worse.

Like, for example, if he wants a hug and you say no, he'll cling to you and whine and whine and whine, like what he does to Kunikida, and you'll eventually give in to him just to shut him up.

Due to his lazy and childish nature, it's easy to forget how dangerous Dazai is and can be. This nature of his makes it so easy to ignore his possessive behavior.

Exposed: How much of their heart do they bare to their darling? How vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling?

Dazai rarely lets you see how bad he's really doing. He can be crying in the living room at the thought of him losing you, remembering Oda's death, and just his own self hatred, but the moment you come down stairs he's wiping his tears and puts on his flirtatious, childish, lazy and teasing act back on.

It's hard to read Dazai because you never know what he's thinking. It's hard to know how much he's really hurting inside.

Fight: How would they feel if their darling fought back?

Amused. I see Dazai as a masochist with some sadistic tendencies. He'd beg you to hit him more, hit him harder. He'll pin you down to the table and beg you to hit him, to fight back, be his cute little feisty girl/boy.

You'll eventually start crying and he'll feel bad, but only a little bit. Don't forget, the worst part about Dazai is his torture methods, if you go to far you'll see why Dazai was so dangerous in the PM.

Game: Is this a game to them? How much would they enjoy watching their darling try to escape?

If you were to actually escape, Dazai would've known about your plan way before you actually did it.

The thing is, Dazai as a yandere feels more like a toxic boyfriend than a capture. So I wouldn't call it escaping, I'd call it breaking up with him.

Dazai would let happened, but don't think you're free to go. I'd say the perfect time to escape is right before Dazai gets arrested by Jouno. Because 1, he won't be able to find you directly, and 2, it can buy you some time.

Dazai would've known, he'd see it coming, he just has to wait for this entire thing to get over with. Once the whole prison thing is over, you'll find him lying down on your couch, saying that he was sorry.

Dazai is so pushy and persistent that you'll eventually get back with him, but this time, it's just a little bit worse.

Hell: What would be their darling’s worst experience with them?

If you ever push him too much to talk about his life in the PM, or more specifically Oda. It would cause him to snap.

Now Dazai in ADA wouldn't want to hurt you physically, but he never said he wouldn't.

The more the persist with him about it the more hostile he becomes. He'll eventually pin you to the ground with a gun to you head, asking you if you wanted to die. His eyes would be empty like they were in the PM, his old habits are slipping through again.

You'll scream and cry, begging him to not kill you. He wasn't even going to, he didn't take the safety off. He'd lick and kiss your tears before picking you up and dragging you to your room. The next day you'd wake up with your arms and legs covered in bandages, dried tears sticking to your face, and Dazai sitting next to you with an empty smile on his face, but you can see the cried tears on his face. Whatever he did, you don't want to know, and it's obvious he regrets it.

Ideals: What kind of future do they have in mind for/with their darling?

Dazai doesn't really see a future for himself. He wants to end his life in a double suicide with you, that's all he wants.

Jealousy: Do they get jealous? Do they lash out or find a way to cope?

Dazai doesn't get jealous easily, but when he does it's hard to tell.

There's two kinds of jealously with Dazai, fake jealousy and serious jealousy.

Fake jealousy is when it's extremely obvious. Dazai is whining, clinging to you, begging for kisses and attention, this is mostly common when the two of you are with Chuuya, or anyone Dazai likes/works with. Dazai isn't actually jealous, he's just being annoying.

Now serious jealousy is extremely rare. When he's jealous he's quiet, and he has his arm around your waist or shoulders. He could feel his eyes twitch.

Kisses: How do they act around or with their darling?

Annoying. He's like a really clingy boyfriend. He's cuddling with you, and if you work at the ADA, he'd beg you to do his paperwork if Kunikida said no and if you say no too he'll whine and whine.

Dazai likes to tease you and whisper the most sexual or teasing things your ear until you walk off, them he'd start laughing and beg you to come back to him. Like I said, it's easy to ignore his red flags.

Love letters: How would they go about courting or approaching their darling?

Like all the other woman he asked to do a double suicide with. But then the longer he spent time with you, the harder in love and obsession he had for you fell. He'd officially ask you out in a beautiful park, it'd be so peaceful.

Mask: Are their true colors drastically different from the way they act around everyone else?

Dazai's true colors are both dangerous and tragic. Dazai is tragic character, no doubt about it. Rarely anyone has seen them, including you.

Naughty: How would they punish their darling?

Dazai doesn't really sexually punish you as often or really in general until his PM counter part. The reason why, eh, it just happened.

Dazai punishes you mentally, physically is rare, mental though is consistent. It breaks you.

Oppression: How many rights would they take away from their darling?

You surprisingly have a lot of freedom. The right he takes away though is the fact that he'll never let you break up with him or leave him long term.

Patience: How patient are they with their darling?

Dazai is a pretty paitient person.

Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?

If you die, he'd break down. Everything he loved and cared about either left him or died, that's why he was so scared to get attached to anyone. He shouldn't have let himself get attached to you. He'd be pretty empty, he'd try to keep up his facade, but when alone he's crying and just wanting to end his suffering.

Leaving and or breaking up with him I already answered.

Regret: Would they ever feel guilty about abducting their darling? Would they ever let their darling go?

He never abducted you in the first place.

Stigma: What brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)?

I'd say it gotta do with his past. I don't see him ever getting any love and care for the majority of his life. Chuuya pretty much being his first friend, or at least the first friend around his age, Ango's betrayal and losing Oda who he cares a lot about. Dazai is scared of getting attached, or too attached to anyone, because he's scared that he'd lose them because that's what happened in the past.

Tears: How do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves?

If you're crying because of him he'll leave you to it. If someone else made you cry he'd comfort you while your sitting in his lap, crying into his shirt while he rubs you back while saying it'll be ok.

If you isolate yourself he'll whine for you to let him in. If you continue to refuse he'll sigh and give up, he'll probably go bother Kunikida mext.

Unique: Would they do anything different from the classic yandere?

He doesn't kidnap you, lots of freedom, feels like a normal relationship most of the time.

Vice: What weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?

Good luck finding those. I don't think anyone has out smarted him just yet, correct me if I'm wrong. But if you think you can successfully do it, you're funny.

Wit’s end: Would they ever hurt their darling?

Yes.

Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over?

Dazai worships you. He'll do anything for your attention and praise.

Yearn: How long do they pine after their darling before they snap?

You got into a consenting relationship at first. I'd say a few years.

Zenith: Would they ever break their darling?

Possibly, it depends.

Dazai when he fucks up his plans lies out of his ass as if trying to convince everyone it was all part of his plan.

In the Lovecraft fight he keeps talking about Chuuya's condition getting worse with time because Lovecraft takes too long to be defeated. He doesn't take his eyes off Chuuya the whole time. And then he lies to Chuuya that he was too busy being entertained.

In stormbringer the first thing he asks Adam is where Chuuya was, making it obvious that he expected him to have been rescued or safe at this point. But when he isn't there he starts blabbering about how he wants to see him tortured and he is totally on time. He even goes and tells Chuuya "oh I was planning on saving you before the torture happened but then I decided to wait" etc. And he knows the torture can lead to Chuuya snapping and goes on about how they need to get to Chuuya cause if he snaps and kills N he will be a lost cause and Dazai wants to "see him suffer as a human". Then again in sb he doesn't say a word when Verlaine literally blows the roof out and flies off cause he had no idea he could do that. And again in sb Dazai is floundering when the large number of ability users start dying because he did not expect Verlaine to be this strong, then he has a moment when Verlaine goes godzilla mode and when Chuuya uses corruption Dazai refuses to take his eyes off him, keeping track of his injuries. Makes you wonder how much of his plan in sb was trial and error, did he think the flags could potentially hold Verlaine off? Maybe he thought Adam would get to Chuuya on time but he didn't.

Sb sort of just proves that Dazai isn't this all knowing perfect plotter.

Similarly did he know Chuuya wasn't a vampire before the elevator? I doubt it cause his manga expressions are very reminiscent of how he acts in the manga when he gets blindsided or one upped in any way. Multiple times he is shown being particularly pissed at Fyodor and at no point does Dazai make it into an actual joke. His response to Chuuya showing up is angry and stressed out, his plan against Fyodor seems like it was intended to be an attempt to actually kill him because he makes it pretty clear he had no way to open the doors (Sigma's ability works on the dead). His speech is very honest and the flashbacks make zero sense because who would they fool? And he intended to get back to Fyodor's body after with Sigma to get the info. Maybe Dazai hoped Chuuya would have survived by using the whole flour idea in 15, using his gravity to move the water that touches his face away just enough to breathe. And then when the elevator thing happened and he possibly began suspecting Chuuya was on his side, he just started being a little bitch about things and later decided to act like everything with Chuuya was always a part of his plan.

🪢🦀 Now they can hear your talking not only when you are using their app, reading manga/Light Novel or watching anime. Now they can hear you in your everyday life.

🪢🦀 Of course, they are looking after you for your own good. When they finally get to your world, they need to know who they should punish for wronging you.

🪢🦀 This cashier, who was rude to you and tried to scam you? Fitzgerald will destroy him financially.

🪢🦀 The terrible entitled parents in the park, who try to take away your phone and give to their children? Fukuzawa and Yosano will make them apologies.

A familiar notification from "Message for You" popped up before your eyes. You mindlessly open it. It was a message from Dazai.

"[Y/N], dear, I hope you are doing well. If you are not... Well, do you want to talk about it? Dazai Osamu"

Little chibi Dazai was standing under the message text, looking at you. You stay silent for a moment. Then you start talking.

"I guess I can talk about it. Yes, you can't hear me, but, at least, I will talk this out. Today is the anniversary of my dear friend's death."

And you talked.

You talked about what happened few years ago. About feeling out of place. About feeling empty. About trying to find anything that can make you feel whole. About uncertainty in the future. About pressure from your family. About you failing in classes.

You talked about meeting your friend. About them been the best person in your life. About them helping you more than anyone at that period of time. They just were there. They didn't force you to speak about your feelings. Not only that, but they didn't shame you about your grades.

They were your anchor. Because of them, you were able to feel better. Life became good again.

And then they died.

You were crying, you can't manage to tell, how exactly they died. But you manage to say, that your friend died in a hospital. And that they managed to tell you something important. That you are good enough, that you shouldn't try to prove your worth to others. That your happiness matters.

Through sobs, you managed to whisper:

"If you think about it, Dazai, we are kinda the same. Both of us were lost, both of us were saved by a kind person, you by Oda, I by my friend, and both of us lost them. Thanks for listening. But, I think, I will go now."

You closed the app.

You didn't notice that Dazai sprite has tears in his eyes.

🪢🦀🍛 Few days ago, you got Oda's card from scout. And Oda, like Shibusawa a few months prior, appears in ADA's office. He was dizzy and lost, but, according to Yosano, he was fine mentally and physically and just needs some rest. Soon he will manage to walk around.

thinking about how kunikida is inarguably suicidal and yet how many people seem to miss this completely when discussing his character, likely bc the way he goes about it stands in complete opposition to how dazai deals with his own suicidal tendencies (disclaimer, i’m basing this of off what i can remember bc i’m too lazy to look for all these scenes rn)

because dazai is fully aware of his feelings, embraces them, really. all of his attempts are unambiguous and he talks about wanting to die a lot, but he also has strong self preservation instincts (if you can call it that). he rarely puts himself in immediate danger and strays away from pain. also all of his attempts (from what we’ve seen in the main manga at least) are highly ineffective (and he knows it) because he’s still hoping to find some reason to live, it’s a huge theme in his character arc (which doesn’t diminish how he feels or how serious his condition is)

but with kunikida is the complete opposite. first of all, he doesn’t seem to register how he feels as being suicidal. i would imagine it’s partly because of how strongly he associates the feeling with dazai, and he’s nothing like him so it can’t be that. but when you pay attention to how he acts it becomes clear that’s what’s going on with him. the helicopter scene is the prime example, how quick he is to throw his life away even when he doesn’t really have to (there had surely been different ways to deal with the hunting dogs then, i mean chuuya was right there), but this also comes up during the scene with aya when she’s first introduced. after the bomb thing gets resolved she asks him what he would have done if yosano didn’t come and he just.. smiles and tells her that he promised not to have people die in front him (i’m paraphrasing this bc i’m too lazy to find the chapter sorry). and it’s easy to miss i guess, but it’s still so chilling he basically admits that he’s rather die on the spot than have to deal with the guilt of not being able to save people. like that’s not,,,, a normal and healthy way to think. and then there’s also what jouno says to him (and again i’m paraphrasing), how his first involuntary reaction to the possibility of his friends dying was relief, with shame and fear coming afterwards. because if his friends are dead that means he can give up and die too.

so yeah uh, i think there’s something really wrong with him and most of these feeling seem to stem from guilt which makes me wonder what the hell happened to him that he’s now acting this was. asagiri release the forbidden backstory <\3

jouno’s eyelashes - a quick analysis

yes im analyzing jouno’s eyelashes. im obsessed with him what can i say.

one thing i’ve noticed throughout my many rereads of jouno’s segments of the manga is that he is actually given eyelashes in a lot of the panels he is present in! often times they’re just thin white lines but they’re definitely there. here are some examples.

now, if we recall back to what harukawa said about eyes a long time ago:

the darker ones eyes are, the more tainted or corrupted a person is. someone who is doing good and/or feeling good may have whiter eyes. to rephrase, one who’s eyes are dark are typically doing something corrupt and/or are in an emotionally bad state. we see this numerous times throughout the manga with many characters, the shade of their eyes changes with their emotion at the time usually.

now what does this have to do with jouno? well, i believe his eyelashes are used to display his intentions since he keeps his eyes closed constantly.

now, there are definitely some exceptions to this. panels where his eyelashes are small could be hard to colour this way, so im looking past a few instances for that purpose.

anyways, i believe looking at his eyelashes in this perspective also hints towards his betrayal of fukuchi, since you can see he has good intent. more on this later.

i'd also like to preface this by reminding you that jouno believed he was in the right with most things he did. he was sure the agency was in the wrong for a long time, times where his lashes were white while dealing with the agency was likely because he believed himself to be doing what is good.

now, starting with his debut in chapter 57, his eyelids are almost completely black as he arrests dazai

his eyelashes appear a bit darker as he torments people i find.

such as shortly after he slices kunikida's notebook and asks tetchou to kill yosano.

one scene i actually want to put a lot of emphasis on here is chapter 78's interaction between jouno and kunikida.

here is his face when he first walks in, he's simply making small talk over how a terrorist attack is awful

we can see his lashes pretty well.

we can also see it well when he's talking about his asian pear. maybe he just really likes them.

however, as the conversation progresses onto tormenting kunikida, his eyelids casually grow darker.

they're not completely black yet, but you can tell he is enjoying bothering kunikida despite his claim of innocence.

after this, you can see his lashes are a little brighter as he announces that yosano is going to be executed.

this makes sense remembering that he is under the belief that yosano is guilty of terrorism and is getting the punishment he believes she deserves.

after this, jouno walks away as kunikida cries out in anger.

his eyelashes are almost completely black here, likely because he is getting nothing but personal enjoyment out of kunikida's grief. he isn't doing good by this and this could definitely be seen as corrupt behaviour.

a huge contrast to what i've been saying falls in chapters 71 and 72, the cafe scenes.

you can see the white of his eyelashes in nearly every panel he's in.

what makes this different than when he was bothering kunikida is that bothering the cafe owner was moving his case forward. he believed he was pursuing justice and doing what is right by extracting important information here; as opposed to doing nothing but mentally torturing someone who isn't improving his case. from his perspective, his actions weren't tainted in anyway except possibly approach, but since he was doing what was right his eyelids were painted white.

another example of this is in chapters 60 and 61, when he is fighting the agency for the first time.

and when the agency escapes and he's surprised to find out the pursued terrorist group would have allies in chapter 62.

i found that these three chapters had a lot of small panels where you couldn't really see the detail of his eyes, but generally they were white as he caught the criminals. they were also white as they escaped, since he was likely confused that people were easily supporting the group he perceived as evil.

my last example of this is his eyes being very white as he tortures the bank robbers in the flashback scenes in chapter 92.5.

he believes that he is seeking justice here. the robber gets what they deserve, and his intentions are what he believes in just which explains his eyes being white.

anyways, to summarize this all: jouno's eyelashes colour often displays his morality. his lashes seem to be coloured more white when he is doing what is morally right from his perspective. even if what he is doing is considered brutal by most, his eyes glow white if it is in pursing of justice or good. in contrast, if what he is doing has no overall benefit and he is just distressing someone for purely his own enjoyment, his eyelids often are coloured much darker.

however, as i said above i believe this subtly hinted at jouno's betrayal of fukuchi.

in chapter 92, we can still see by his eyelashes that he has the right intentions when hunting for the agency.

and towards the end of the chapter we see his eyes still have a small white streak, implying his bluff on actually being willing to switch to the other side. at the same time, the thinness of the lash could be so small because he is lying to his superior as well, which i suppose could also be seen as tainted behaviour.

however, after fukuchi's plan is unraveled we see the brightness shine again.

as i stated above, when he isn't doing what he believes is right or is tormenting people for no reason but his own enjoyment, his eyes look black. but if you look at the image below you can see his eyes are partially coloured white, hinting that he was going to do what was right. it is subtle colouring, i assume that is partially due to the fact that his face was rather small on the page. but regardless it is still noticeable.

and what do we know? he did switch up and betray fukuchi shortly after saying this.

with that in mind, there's one scene i deliberately avoided bringing up until now; the scene i believe heavily tries to avoid hinting at jouno's betrayal of fukuchi. im referring to the scene where jouno confronts aya.

as i said, if jouno is acting corrupt towards someone for his own fun, his eyelids are dark, but if he's doing something that he believes is just his lashes remain partially white. i believe that out of context his eyes would likely be black as he torments aya, however since he secretly had good intention they would have actually been white.

however, the readers had yet to know the context of his approach until the end of chapter 93, so they needed to hide the fact that he may have had good intent here.

so harukawa kept his eyes covered (or coloured his face differently) throughout the scene.

the most we see of his face in this whole scene is his side profile, which is small enough to not need to colour his eyelashes in.

i believe this was an intentional choice to keep the readers from guessing that he was doing something he believes is right here.

anyways, to sum up this segment i believe that jouno's eyelashes in chapter 92-92.5 subtly hinted at the fact that he was indeed siding with aya and was preparing to betray fukuchi.

in conclusion, i believe jouno's eyelashes hint at his true intent a lot. they show that he is a good person hiding behind a facade. the shading of his eyelids is a lot more subtle than how most character's eyes look in the manga, which i believe helps add more to jouno's somewhat moral ambiguity. he is an incredibly well-written character and i can't wait to see more of him!

TAKING CARE OF THEIR SICK S/O

Osamu Dazai :

- he immediately assumes something’s wrong with you when he sees you sniffling

- he asks you how you’re feeling, wanting you to tell him that you’re feeling sick

- he will bother you until you accept his help

- he dramatically says that sickness has taken over you and it was his duty as a knight in shining armor to help you

- due to the lack of his cooking skills, he orders you soup, while it won’t taste too good, he knows it’ll help soothe your throat

- this man gets so clingy when you’re sick, not wanting to leave your sight

- he does the little things to make sure you’re okay, like not turning the ac too cold or not letting you sleep with too many blankets

- he takes (even more) days off of work to make sure you’re back to normal

- he also babies you a lot, saying that he loves you, it gets to the point where you cringe a bit too much wanting to gag but also laugh at his corniness

- overall sick experience is 8/10, he’ll make sure you heal very quickly but he can be a bit dramatic about the situation

Suehiro Tecchou :

- it’s easy for him to notice but he doesn’t put all the pieces together all at once

- once he sees you blowing your nose too many times he starts questioning asking if there’s anything he can do to help

- even if you say no, he doesn’t take his eyes off of you, paying attention to your sickness

- once he starts actually helping you, he’ll be as attentive as he’s ever been, remember when he looked at a pile of ants for 8 hours in the manga, yeah well imagine that but with yourself

- knowing this man, he most definitely gave you many concoctions of whatever the hell was in the kitchen, surprisingly one if his concoctions work, and that’s lemon with honey

- he’s also one clingy man when you’re sick, and since he’s not naturally clingy like dazai it’s a bit more relaxing rather than overbearing

- though there are some weird moments where you’re on the toilet and tecchou is sitting on the counter, making sure absolutely nothing happens to your delicate state

- he physically can’t take any days off of work due to him being a hunting dog but he always makes sure to call you to check up on you

- i feel like tecchou doesn’t get sick often and when he does he toughens it out, but with you, he acts as if it’s in your everyday life

- overall sick experience is 9/10, only semi negative part about him is his odd concoctions but other than that he’s such a caring bf

Fyodor Dostoyevsky :

- he doesn’t realize that you’re sick as he’s consumed into his work

- but when he starts seeing you hoarsely cough and repeatedly trying to clear your throat, he demands to know if you’re sick

- he won’t do much himself to help you out but he has ivan supervise you

- with ivan taking care of you he’s sure you’ll be in better condition soon, after all you’re in the best care (that he can find and trust)

- in the few moments he’s actually with you, he brings you some ginger tea, it was the least he could do he supposes

- he won’t cling to you, he’ll proceed as normal, besides his immune system is already weak as it is, he doesn’t want to get sicker by sharing germs with you

- if you’re in his office, he allows you to hold his hand as long as you’re not too sniffly, he’ll never say it but he enjoys your company even with your puffy face and droopy eyes

- yeah he’s not slacking off of his work for you, it’s something you’ve unfortunately come to understand, his work is his pride and unless you’re on your death bed, nothing changes

- surprisingly this man occasionally babies you when you’re sick, well babying you is too extreme, it’s more like condescending word play, calling you stupid in a soft tone

- overall sick experience is 5/10, while he has someone else take care of you, he’s not much help unless you want to be with him

Kabedon gone wrong ft BSD Men

He knows what this is. Ofc, what do you expect from this man?

Will try that out even when you two are at the ADA. He doesn't give a damn about his co-workers covering Kyouka's eyes.

Might use that to initiate a make out session in the office.

His style is using one hand to trap you as his other lift your chin up so your eyes are locked.

"Uh...Osamu..? What are you doing?"

You knew that moment when you asked Dazai whether he knows what a kabedon is, you fucked up. As by now, you're trapped between the Agency's nearest wall and your beloved Dazai's arm.

His free hand spare no mercy as he grabbed your chin, forcing you to look into his eyes. If not for the ruckus everyone else is causing in the background, you could've focus more on those brown orbs you adore so much, but alas, this isn't your shared apartment, but the Agency, and well, Kyouka is there too.

Your background was a Kunikida who had broke his who-knows-how-many pen in this week, a Yosano in the back sighing as she was covering innocent Kyouka's eyes. At the same time, the Tanizaki siblings were reacting differently, as Naomi were fangirling over the scene, her "I want you to do that too, dear brother~" didn't went unheard, Tanizaki, on the other hand was flushing as he tries to refuse his little sister. The luckiest thing were probably Atsushi was accompanying Kenji out for a job, while Ranpo was too busy munching on his snacks, though the scene didn't went unnoticed to our great detective.

"Now, what do you say we continue this later, just you and me in our bedroom, hm?"

Dazai whispers in your ears, right before Kunikida strangles the man as he dragged him away, claiming he won't let that bandage-wasting-device ruin the perfect scenery of the office anymore.

Chuuya

He knows what this is, like Dazai. But due to the height (dis)advantage, he may or may not perform this to his lovely s/o.

If you beg him till he deems enough, he may consider giving you what you want, but would be a little different.

He'll use his leg to trapped you instead, so instead of a kabedon we'll have a ashidon. Oops?

Jokes aside, I personally think he'll be using one hand and one leg on both side so you cannot escape.

"Your... wish is my command, princess."

You could've swore you felt him sighing as he press on each syllable. And how did this happen again? It kinda cost you a bottle or two of Chuuya's favorite wine, plus one night with you wearing his favorite lingerie set, which of course, he chose that out for you himself. All of that, just for a fleeting moment of recreating your favorite scene in a certain shoujo manga. Was it all worth it?

But right now, as you, trapped between the ginger and the wall, you felt no regret. It wasn't exactly like how you imagine it would be, as he traps you with a hand on this side, and a leg on the other side, supposedly due to your lover's (dis)advantage of heights. But it's counted, right? This still count as a kabedon, right?!

You could saw his smirk, the one he always did before he beats up the enemies, and that moment you knew you fucked up. Chuuya took his chance while you were still loading and leaned in, his face unbelievable close to yours, "You wouldn't mind if I claim my payment right here, would you?"

Oda

God. This man. Where do I even start?

Like our boi sushi, he won't know what this is until he asked his friend Dazai.

Definitely not Dazai laughing his ass off in the bar while Oda is just like "Oh, i understand now." as if nothing just happened.

Man is a walking pole I tell you so he'd definitely be able to do this without flaws.

His style will be using both hands as he leans close enough to kiss you, leaving no escape, the pressure from this man feel like he's going to eat us-

When you first asked Oda for a kabedon, you honestly didn't think it'll be something like this. He admitted that he didn't know what that is, so at time like this, Oda'd seek help from his best friend. Dazai, was more than happy to assist him in this, so the two spent a whole night at Lupin studying about kabedon, while Ango in the back refuse to add this 'weird' knowledge.

So when the tutoring session end, Oda decided to try his newly acquired skill on you, like you asked for. You, caged in between his hands, your back was against the bedroom wall, the red-ish hue on your cheeks didn't went unnoticed as Oda leans in to steal your lips for a brief moment.

As you would describe, Oda's kiss taste like adulthood, filled with bitterness. The slight taste of caffeine and the harsh, painful taste of cigarettes, mixed with a hue of whiskey, just like him. And you love it, you love the addicting bitterness you can never get enough, and the mafioso loves that sweet, not-so-innocent taste of yours as well.

But worry not, for the night is still young. And who's to say Oda will let you go that easy?

Atsushi

Needs to be persevered.

Too precious for his own good.

He mistook that for a type of rice bowl at first but after Dazai explains what it is (cue the whole ADA holding their laughter in the background) sushiboi almost fainted.

The first time is kinda awkward so you had to show him how it's done.

Kinda backfired on him, poor boy-

"(y/n)..? What are you doing?!"

The white-haired flinched slightly as you cornered him to the nearest wall, hands on both side so he can't run away.

"Showing you how it's done, of course!"

Earlier today, when Dazai was talking about kabedon down the cafe, Atsushi couldn't help but ask what was that. Maybe the tiger's fur has, erm, overgrown in the ear, so that's why he mistook it as a new kind of ricebowl. Dazai was staring for a good while before burst out in laughter, which quickly spread to the Tanizaki siblings, and Yosano, even the infamous detective Ranpo, who was currently enjoying his parfait had to pause a bit so he can join the wagon.

You were running an errand so by the time you came back, everything has ended, but luckily for you, you have Naomi at your back! She told you everything, even that part later on when Dazai had to explain what a kabedon is to Atsushi. So an idea popped up in that small, mischievous head of your. Why not show him how it's done?

And that leads us back to the present as you were cornering Atsushi, the pinkish hue spreaded all over you two's cheeks. Yet what surprised you was that Atsushi decided it's his time to strike back as he leans up and claim your lips. The sudden act made the gears in your head stopped, inevitably, your hands slowly slipping off their positions, so he took that as a chance to grab your wrist and pinned you down the mattress.

"You know, (y/n). I am a man too, and as they said, men are hungry wolves. So why don't you let me have a taste then?"

Fyodor

This man? Yes, he speaks Japanese fluently, even better than a Japanese person even. But when it comes to culture and stuffs he's a complete fool.

Luckily for him, the (beloved) clown is there to assist!

Nikolai gave him a private tutoring session later, he even prepares some documents (shoujo manga) to help his friend understand faster, though I doubt this is needed with his intelligence...

After the tutoring session, he'd achieved the level of a almost-perfect kabedon. With one hand and one leg on both side, his free hand is free to lift your chin, as you were forced to lock eyes with him, he'll take no time but lean in for a quick, chaste kiss that's just enough to make you yearn for more.

When it comes to this foreign language, Fyodor is confident that he doesn't sound one bit like an outsider. But he doesn't pay that much focus to culture and anything else, because to him, language is just an another tool he uses to achieve his utmost goal.

So when you first brought up the topic of a 'kabedon', he had no idea what that is. But Nikolai, who was, coincidentally present at the moment, decided to jump in, "No worries! I'll teach you everything you need, Dos-kun!" before dragging his best friend somewhere else.

And the jester stays true to his words, as he brought out everything you need for a, erm, lesson? From illustration to videos as examples, even a dummy from where ever the hell he keeps it. He has everything he needed, and to make it even more, fancier, as he claimed, Nikolai even took them out from his cloak, just like Dora*mon.

Results? Well, now you can enjoy the feeling of a shoujo manga heroine with your beloved man, as he had mastered the art of kabedon, with one hand on the side, and one leg on the other side, the demon can seize the chance to grab your chin, forcing your eyes to met his violet irises, which you once told him they're like a kind of drugs, since once you've gaze upon them, you could never escape.

As you lost yourself in his eyes, Fyodor had his lips pressed against your in a swift movement, but the moment didn't last long, as the kiss were quick to come and quick to leave as well. But then there comes another chaste kiss, follows by another, leaving you hungry for more.

"I have to admit, I do enjoy your helpless state, myshka. Why don't you show me more?"

15!Dazai + 15!Chuuya

You were going to try this out on them, but it backfired, of course. And now we have an uno reverse card situation. But again, who wouldn't want to be sandwiched between these two?

Who would've knew a small shenanigans of your could lead to such huge consequences? You, trapped between the most powerful duo of Port Mafia, and maybe the whole Yokohama even.

It was when your braincells decided they're gonna take a break for today and let the stupid part do all the work, so as you three were in Dazai's office, you, out of all questions decided to ask them about kabedon. The two young boys exchanged a look before nonchalantly replies in unison,

"No. Care to teach us?"

If it were to be your everyday self, you would've refuse because there is absolutely no way they can't know what it is. Unfortunately, your braincells are on their vacation, and you waltzed right in their hands. So you asked them to stand over the nearest wall, and after struggling for a good while, congratulations, you managed to trapped the two in your arms. Their backs pressed against the wall as your hands rested right by the side of their heads,

"I guess... It looks like this?"

Before you could leave, or could even register what was happening, Dazai and Chuuya had quickly pulled you back. As by now you became the trapped one, Dazai on your right and Chuuya on your left, they tower over your body.

"I think it's our turn now. Don't ya think so?"

Followed by Chuuya's words, a kiss was placed on both side of your cheeks. You couldn't possibly imagine you, being toyed by two younger boys like this. But oh how the table had turned. Dazai, being the faster soon places a kiss on your lips, ignoring the complaints coming from the ginger.

"Now you are mine~"

"Hey! Since when was she yours, you suicidal freak?!"

Chuuya, didn't want to be left behind, suddenly pulls you towards him and claim your lips in a rougher manner comparing to his partner.

When you two parted, Dazai was holding onto you from behind, only now you see him acting like a true child. And Chuuya, who obviously doesn't want to lose, holding you close to him,

"Until you can choose, would you be ours?"

osamu dazai believed that someone like him didn’t deserve blessings. willingly, he’s manipulated, tortured, and killed his enemies. his blood was as black as the crimes he had committed in the past. it stained his soul, never able to go away. there was no one more tainted than him.

however, you walked into his life and for a brief moment, he forgot about his polluted mind.

as fairytale as it seemed, you didn’t see him how he was used to being seen— cold-blooded, ruthless, and or mysterious. though, you didn’t know of his past as a port mafia executive. in your eyes, he was just another man the same age as you. but for some reason, you let him stick around after figuring out his past.

on a day when love is celebrated, valentine’s day, dazai wondered why you loved him. why fall in love with a man that sits on top of a mountain of sins? he decided to ask you while you were both still laying in bed.

“why do i love you even though you did those horrible things?” you repeated, leaning further into your pillow. “hm, i won’t ever forget what you told me you did, just like the people who survived it won’t. just because you now work to help others also doesn’t erase what you’ve done. if i think about it, i still love you because of how the world works.”

dazai raised a brow, “how the world works?”

“mhm, you heard me. no one in the world is just born to be evil, their environment changes them to be. this applies to you, a human in this world. the people that controlled you back then made you this way, so i’m glad you got away from them. just like how an environment can push you to do bad things, it can push you to do good. i’m glad you found the agency because they’re all great people trying to do good in this world. some people can be surrounded by good and ignore it if they wanted, but you welcomed it into your life. just like your friend said, helping others is more beautiful, isn’t it?”

you lovingly pressed your forehead against dazai’s, your nose almost brushing his. your left hand snaked up from his arm to his cheek, caressing it softly.

“i don’t deserve you, love. hell, you don’t deserve to be with someone like me,” dazai said in a negative tone

when you first met dazai, you thought that he’d be cold, physically cold. so when you held his face in your hands and felt the warmth radiating off of him, it was safe to say you were a little surprised. you don’t know why, but the warmth he emitted made him even more human to you.

“why? you’re as every bit human as i am, are you not? no one can tell us what we do and do not deserve. don’t say you don’t deserve me just because of who you once were. just think about it now, osamu. i love you because you’re willing to change for the better.”

after you spoke those words, you finally pressed your lips against his. like a mantra, you repeated “i love you” as you gave him small kisses. after a while, he slid his hand behind your head and pulled you into his chest.

dazai held you close to him, his blessing in disguise.

DAZAI THEORY!!!!!

So, seeing that my theories have been getting some attention, here's another one!!

So, Bungo Stray dogs season 5 started and ended all in the month of September of 2023. After that, they said aren't getting any more content UNTIL 2026. That was enough time for me to think of a bunch of theories like:

Will Sigma join the Armed Detective Agency now that the Decay Of Angels are defeated?

Will Poe also join due to the Guild disbanding and him constantly helping out Ranpo?

If Aya grew up, would she join the Armed Detective Agency?

What will Bram, Nikolai and the rest of the Hunting Dogs do now since Fukichi and Fyodor are dead?

Is Tachihara alive, a vampire or dead?

But the one I want to talk about right now is our loveable and heavily simped over suicidal maniac,

Osamu Dazai.

I know this post will be a bit long but hear me out!!

Is Dazai going to re-join the Port Mafia? Think about it!!

In Season 2, episodes 1 thru 4 shows Dazai life in the Port when he was 18. When Odasaku is speaking to Mori about going after Mimic's leader, Mori says, "in four years, Dazai would have surpressed me and take the position of heaf of the Port Mafia." And if you do the very simple math: 18 + 4 = 22. Dazai right now currently is 22. But wait!! There is more.

Mori has asked Dazai not once! But twice to come back to the Mafia and even offered him back his position! We have also seen how many times in the ADA they leave out Dazai, even a clip on the Manga where it shows everyone and they say that everyone is here despite Dazai not being there. AND! It could be that Sigma could be his replacement. Think about it! Yosano is the healer, Kenji and Atsushi are the brute force, Tanazaki is the diversion, Kunikida will be the future President and Ranpo is the brains! And what is Dazai's role in all this? The pretty face?!

Now before some of you come after me saying "What about Dazai's promise to Odasaku about being good?!" Chill out, I've got my explanation for that. Dazai could rejoin the Port Mafia and become the boss but he could still be a good guy, just like Odasaku with the whole "I'm an agent in the Port Mafia but I don't kill" sort of thing.

And a few other things: Season 5 acted in a way as to how the Detective Agency would function without Dazai.

Dazai crimes somehow got leaked even though Ango told Mushitaro that he had deleted them all so Dazai could be free from his past life.

Mori is sitting down in his seat in season 1 but not in season 3.

Dazai also takes off the pendant he wears in the season 4 outro.

i mean he hasn't had time for it with all the plotting against the world shit yk?

so when he starts up a relationship with you

he's like

"how tf do i do this"

and ends up asking his friends for help

he's a very quiet person

his affection is actions rather than words

i feel like he's extremely touchy or not at all, there's no inbetween

extremely cold to you at first

but he warms up later on!!

he doesn't tell you about his.. health at first due to him not wanting to appear weak

but you notice it when he takes pills every day and goes pale without them

bring it up because obviously he didn't want you to know

sometimes he compliments you in russian

fyodor is extremely observant

if something is bothering you

he knows before even YOU know

he's busy often due to work, so he can't give you much attention when everything is going on

therefore

his affection during this time is allowing you to sit on his lap during work

lots n lots of gifts!!

he loves the reaction he gets when you open something he's bought for you

like dazai, he's often sick

when this happens though, he tries to hide it from you

again with the appearing weak thing

but you notice it pretty quickly, and it results in you yelling at him to rest

if the two of you are in public, he always has to be touching you in some way.

it helps calm him down since he more or less has social anxiety

his hands are much larger than yours. i refuse to be told anything else

you LOVE listening to him talk in russian

and the proceed to kiss every single spot while telling you how much he loves you

likes watching horror movies with you cause he gets to hold you when you get scared lol

onto his friends

now nikolai probably loves you!! no doubt

but he can be a little..

which results in fyodor bragging about how awesome you are to get on his nerves

but otherwise he's super friendly to you

I was thinking about it and just had a thought:

Chuuya == Cinnabar

Dazai == Phosphophylite

Chuuya and Cinnabar are just too alike with their highly destructive abilities, but my only logic for Dazai is "Phos gets damaged a lot plus gay ships."

But yeah, just a cool thought I wanted to share because your user made me think of that awesome anime again ^^

OKOK SO!!! Since you said you weren’t that attached to Dazai being a Phosphophylite I thought him being a Lapis would actually be more fitting! Since they were known for in the manga for their immense intelligence curiosity, moral ambiguity and being generally hard to read! Which I feel fits him rly well!

As for Chuuya as Cinnabar yiure SO CORRECT, so I propose that he’s a weirdly mutated batch of it that actually has his poison (?) contained inside his body, in order to use it he actually needs to break, (like when he uses corruption cough cough) he’s the strongest fighter in their school and since he obviously wanted to protect everyone he would often abuse his ability, which is harmful because I’m order to use it he needs to literally break himself + the poison in of itself is corrosive and actively damages him everytime he uses it ASIDE from destroying everything around him!

It’s really effective for killing Lunerians but it also means he often shouldered the burden of protecting everyone alone because he rly can’t use it with people around him, and I imagine the others in the school would really look up to Chuuya as the strongest, kinda like they do Bort in canon! So they wouldn’t rly see this was harming him cuz he wouldn’t want them to know cuz he would feel this would be letting them down

Which is where Dazai comes in, I think he would originally not be a fighter type, I think he used to work at the school in research and strategy without actually being in the battle field, up until he encounters Chuuya and takes an interest in him bcz ofc he does. He’d be the first person to actually really see what’s going on with Chuuya overworking himself and breaking himself for the sake of the others, and I think he would step in by becoming Chuuyas partner, which Chuuya obviously wouldn’t want but we all know how persistent and cunning Dazai is so he somehow get his way

As for why he wanted to be Chuuyas partner in the first place? Because he wanted Chuuya to stop breaking himself and he knew that him being there achieved two things 1. Chuuya cannot use corruption because Dazai would be near him, and 2. Chuuya wouldn’t have to use corruption because Dazai would be there to come up with attack strategies on the fly

And this double black would be born!

(Also a fun side effect of Lapis Dazai is we get the red and blue symbolism back)

EDIT: BTW DAZAI ENDS UP ASKING YOSANO TO TEACH HIM HEALING CUZ HE KNOWS CHUUYA ISNT COMFORTABLE BEING WEAK IN FRONT OF THE OTHERS SO THAT WAY DAZAI HAS STITCH HIM BACK UP ON THE RARE OCCASION ITS ACTUALLY NECESSARY TO USE CORRUPTION

Dazai in the light novels has been down BAD since the day he met Chuuya.

I know the whole "must be because I love you" can be viewed as a joke but my man actually "whispered with a look of regret" at being shot down.

He also proceeded to cheat during the game by tampering with the machine to ensure Chuuya would lose the bet and become his dog. He was also stated as being in awe of Chuuya's fighting ability, repeatedly refering to him as "incredible". Dazai also flat out admits to wanting to try out living because "Chuuya convinced" him.

He is even described as having forgotten how to breathe watching Chuuya fight.

Moving on to the events of Stormbringer, Dazai spends too long exposing his obsession with Chuuya, telling the big bad that he spends all his "days and nights thinking about ways to annoy Chuuya".

He further proceeds to insist that Chuuya is human because of how strongly he hates Chuuya and due to a specific word it can be viewed as him saying Chuuya would hate him less if he wasnt human as was stated in the stage play of the same.

Furthermore at the end of Stormbringer he offers to come up with a new plan to give Chuuya an out if he needs one when he has to use corruption as a last resort. And he fully intends on coming up with a new plan within 2 minutes.

In general Dazai does a lot of staring at Chuuya throughout the light novels. On a lighter note Dazai jokes about wanting Chuuya as his personal maid at one point and demands that Chuuya let Dazai look inside his head and know everything there is to know about him.

But then we move onto the dragon head conflict as mentioned in Dead Apple where after making light of an executive's death and getting punched in the face by Chuuya, Dazai is so shaken up by Chuuya implying he's inhuman, he actually pulls strings to try and bring the conflict to an end. He also stops corruption by touching his cheek and pulls Chuuya's head into his lap while he is unconscious after his fight with Shibusawa. The following is from the manga.

Now everyone knows about the whole Snow White and Prince reference but in the light novel its clarified that Chuuya's ability was not affected by the fog and Dazai knew this but he still forces his head down. Even more telling is that Dazai cradles Chuuya's face for no real reason because Corruption had already been nullified when Chuuya made skin to skin contact when punching him in the face.

And of course that was how their expressions are drawn in the manga panel

Then we move to the present day and you have Dazai saying this to Sigma about Chuuya

But then his comment about Gide has him claim the exact same behaviour is romantic in his messed up troll brain

Basically Dazai has a history of staring at Chuuya in awe since 15, "jokingly" confessed at 15 and then got somewhat upset about the rejection, cheated to be able to keep Chuuya as his, repeatedly makes remarks that imply he is vaguely obsessed with him at 16, tends to let Chuuya rest his head in his lap post corruption, has nullified him twice that we have seen by touching his cheek (as per the movie and once as per the ln). Is actively affected by how Chuuya views him (which was shocking to me).

Aside from that he has also talked about Chuuya to the ADA off screen because Yosano knew about Chuuya and his ability (though this could just be a random update about the membera of the mafia to watch out for during meetings) and I heard he talked about Chuuya to Oda in The Day I Picked Up Dazai ln.

This is not counting any of the seriously insane amount of wan content because I dont view it as canon or atleast entirely canon but there Dazai admits to keeping 27 journals detailing things about Chuuya and its an exaggeration of the canon fact that Dazai prides himself in being a Chuuya Nakahara Encyclopedia. It also plays with how close they both actually are with several character refering to them as besties, Chuuya being forced to admit he doesnt actually hate Dazai.

(Oh and this is not even considering just how much Dazai touches Chuuya, like in the manga there is a part where Dazai keeps tugging at Chuuya's hair and refusing to let go while complaining about how much he doesnt want to touch him. Just let go dude...)

So yea, I would not be surprised if Dazai has his vows prepared by the time the last pre defection ln drops. Ofcourse this is mostly a lighthearted joke about Dazai being down bad but in all seriousness, Dazai genuinely cared about and still cares about Chuuya and its made extremely obvious throughout the novels. Its actually worth noting that it was actually Chuuya who seemed to be more vitriolic towards him until the end of Stormbringer where Dazai actually gives Chuuya a choice and shows open concern for Chuuya's needs. Hell Dazai was also the one insisting on Chuuya's autonomy, while he keeps insisting Chuuya is his dog, he hates the idea of people using him like a tool, its why he always gives Chuuya a choice. Chuuya always actively chooses to go rescue Dazai in Dazai's plans of getting kidnapped. Chuuya can always go, "nah, I dont wanna use corruption" but he doesnt because he knows since the events of stormbringer that Dazai will always give him a choice even if corruption seems like a last resort.

Chuuya has good reason for trusting Dazai. Its cause Dazai has in fact proven to him that he can trust him. Its why he went in to fight a dragon despite being told Dazai was possibly already dead.

(And yea I know the current arc would have people go "lol he tried to drown Chuuya, he clearly doesnt care" and you know what? That's so dumb. Dazai tried to drown Chuuya, yes. But we dont actually know what is happening with this arc rn and what he is doing or if Chuuya is in any way involved in whatever he is doing. Dazai said all those things and there was no need for him to say that but the fact that he even remembered several moments they shared, yea no, he was clearly affected by it. Maybe I am wrong and Asagiri decided to yeet out all of Dazai's characterization we saw with his behaviour towards Chuuya in 2 entire novels of his past but IDK I think I'm gonna wait till this arc ends and everything unfolds before making a conclusion about how Dazai is such an asshole he tried to drown his partner.)

Seriously, vows are like the least they could do at this point.

“It would be handy right about now if we could see into the future by just a couple of seconds!” Ranpo whispers from across the room. “Then we would be able to see when Kunikida comes back so we don’t get caught slacking off.” 

“That would be so handy.” You’re currently shuffling through the piles of paperwork on your desk, absentmindedly sorting while entertaining Dazai who’s sitting at your desk with you. 

“If only Oda was here… then maybe he could help us.” You muttered under your breath, not noticing Dazai stiffen from where he’s sitting next to you, having accidentally heard your statement. 

The door opens and everyone scrambles about as Kunikida walks back into the office, eyeing everyone suspiciously as you all pretend to be working. 

Later that night, Dazai comes into your shared bedroom, climbing into bed and wrapping his arms around you, nuzzling his head into your shoulder.  

“Y/n…” he says quietly, poking you in the cheek. 

“Yes, Dazai?” You look over at him in the dark, and see his usually calm eyes glistening with tears. Cupping his cheeks, you give him a soft kiss.  

“What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”  

“How do you know about Odasaku?” You freeze at his question, unsure of how to respond. 

“I... I can’t tell you.” You can see the confusion and sadness swirling in his eyes, tears silently rolling down his cheeks. The only thing you can really think to do is pull him close to you, kissing his forehead as he quietly cries into your chest. 

“Just know that you can talk to me about it anytime, okay? You shouldn’t have to keep your emotions to yourself.” He retracts from your embrace, sniffling and wiping his tears away with the back of his hand. 

“Then you have to promise me one thing.” 

“I’m listening.” 

“Before I die, you have to tell me how you know about him.” You let a small smile appear on your face and you allow him to take your hand in his.  

“I promise. Now let’s get some sleep.” 

-> CHUUYA NAKAHARA

The sudden change in your behaviour was noticed by Chuuya, and he was almost nervous to ask about it. It seemed as if you remembered something that you wanted to forget. He could see it in your eyes, the hurt, the pain, it wasn’t anything to be taken lightly.  

“Are you alright, y/n?” You looked up at him, and Chuuya could see the tears brimming in your eyes, and you shook your head, trying to deny any of the thoughts that were spinning in your head. He immediately pulled you close to him, resting your head on his chest as tears fell silently from your cheeks. You know you shouldn’t say anything, but the splintering pain in your heart was too much to handle.  

“Chuuya,” you spoke softly, voice partially muffled by the fabric of his shirt, “how long can you hold your breath for?” The question caught him completely off guard, and he didn’t see any reason you’d need to be upset about something so simple. 

“Uh, long enough. Who do you think I am?” 

You didn’t believe him. 

“I know you can’t do it for that long. You don’t have to lie to me.” 

Chuuya didn’t really know what to say. He doesn’t know where these emotions are coming from, or how to comfort you.  

“Why does it matter so much?” He says as his hand rubs small circles on your back. “It’s not like I’m gonna need that skill anytime soon. So why are you so upset? This isn’t like you.” Your hand balls into a fist, and you fight back the urge to scream. You can’t say anything, it’s not right for you to play God and change natural events to your benefit. But you can’t sit back and watch. 

“Because you die, alright?” Chuuya can hear the anger and hurt in your voice, before you break down into sobs. “And I can’t let that happen.” 

“What?” He’s totally taken aback. It isn’t every day that the person he loves and cares about more than anything in the whole world tells him that he’s going to die. And how do you know this? Do you have some secret ability that you haven’t told him about? But you’d never lie to him, right?  

“I’m sorry,” you whisper between choked sobs. “I shouldn’t have said anything.” Chuuya takes a breath, deciding how to approach this situation. 

“Can you tell me how you know this?” You shake your head. 

“I can’t. But please… just trust me.” Chuuya kisses your forehead, still processing this information.  

“Alright. I’ll trust you. But don’t fret about this. I promise you aren’t going to lose me. I’d never do that to you. Do you understand?” You nod again, and Chuuya wipes the tears from your cheeks.  

“Good.” He pulls you up from the couch, holding your hand in his, and walks you to the kitchen. “Let’s have something to eat, then we can watch something on TV to get your mind off this?”  

“Okay. That sounds good.” 

-> RANPO EDOGAWA

You were sitting at your desk, stuffing your face full of snacks courtesy of your beloved Ranpo, who had some stocked up for you in case of emergency. Your fingers loosely sifted through paperwork, disinterested, as you waited for something exciting to happen. You watch as Ranpo moves across the room, approaching where you’re sitting before handing you a sheet of paper. 

“What’s this?” You ask, voice partially muffled by the food in your mouth. 

“The invitation I got earlier, remember? Yosano and I just got back.”  

“Oh yeah. The game of deduction. How’d it go? It was from Poe, right? The locked room murder?” Ranpo raises a questioning brow.  

“Yeah… how’d you know?” Your eyes widen briefly but you manage to keep your composure, winking at him.  

“Just my powers of deduction, you could say.” Chuckling nervously, you mentally curse yourself for letting that slip out. Ranpo, on the other hand, is just confused. Even his deductive skills aren’t that good that he can just know something without any evidence.  

“Oh, okay.” He goes quiet for a moment and you both sit awkwardly, unsure of what to say. He reaches over and stuffs his hand in your bag of snacks, breaking the silence. 

“You don’t have to lie to me, y/n. How did you know? Are you secretly working with the Guild or something?” You immediately shake your head. 

“No no no not at all… I just… know.” You avoid looking him in the eyes, afraid he might figure out your secret. “Just… forget about it. Pretend I didn’t say anything, alright?” He looks at you, debating whether or not he’ll forget that easily, but he eventually sighs.  

“Fine. Do you swear you’re not working with the Guild though?” You take his hand and can look at him with certainty.  

“Yes. I swear.” 

“Okay good.” He swoops down and kisses your cheek and grabs another snack, sitting down next to you. 

“One day you’ll have to tell me though. There’s no way your deductive powers best mine.” 

“Alright, one day.” 

-> KUNIKIDA DOPPO

“Is everything alright?” You ask quietly as Kunikida basically collapses on the couch after coming home. You sit down next to him, placing the two hot cups of tea on the coffee table and remove the his notebook he placed over his eyes. You can see a hint of sadness in his eyes, but he forces a small smile on his lips.

“I’ll be fine. Just a rough day, that’s all.” 

“You can talk to me about it, okay? I know something’s bothering you.” He looks over at you before slowly pulling you into a hug, his head resting atop of your own. 

“There was this girl, young, and I barely was able to save her. If it wasn’t for Yosano, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.” You can feel his voice starting to shake, and he takes a deep breath.

“I just don’t like not being able to save everyone, you know?” You look up at him reassuringly, kissing his cheek. 

“One day…” Your mind briefly flashes to the events that are to follow this moment, tears welling up in your eyes.

“Y/n? What’s wrong?” You shake your head, muttering under your breath.

“Nothing. I’m okay.” He can tell you’re lying, the tears slowly falling down your cheeks giving it away. Taking your one hand in his, he brushes your tears away.

“Tell me.”

“One day…” you take a breath. “You aren’t able to save someone. And it destroys us all.” Kunikida pulls you to his chest and you steady your breathing.

“That’s okay. I had a feeling that would happen.” Your voice is quiet, but Kunikida can hear a sliver of hope in your tone.

“But one day, you’ll be able to save everyone. It might be hard, and you won’t always be able to do it. But you’ll be able to save everyone that counts. I promise.”

“How do you know that for certain? You can’t read the future, can you?”

“Just trust me, okay?” Kunikida rests his chin on your head and wraps his arms around you, not a common action from him, but he feels it to be fitting as the both of you sit in silence for a second before he finally speaks again.

“Okay. I trust you.”

“Do you know about my ability, love?” Fyodor’s question almost surprises you, and you answer without hesitation, eyes not moving up from the book you’re reading. 

“Yeah, it’s Crime and Punishment, right? I’m not one hundred percent sure about the minute details yet, but it allows you to kill people just by touching them.” Taken aback slightly, Fyodor takes a slow sip from the cup of tea in his hands.  

“Uh, yeah. That's right.” You look at him, a little confused at his hesitant voice, before you realize you slipped up. 

“Um, I mean... I- I don’t really know like... that was just a guess, I'm not entirely sure.” Trying to cover up your mistake, you stumble over your words, Fyodor’s eyes narrowing at your reaction. 

“How do you know that? I haven’t told anyone about my ability yet, as to not put myself at a disadvantage. I trust you enough, but I don’t recall ever informing you.” 

“Uh, it’s complicated. Trust me though, I promise I'm not against you. I just... know.”  

“Does your ability allow you to see other’s abilities?”  

“No, not at all.” 

“Then how do you know?” You can sense the pushiness of his questions, and doubt starts to form in your stomach. You wish he’d just stop asking you how you know because you can’t tell him. 

“I just do. Let’s just leave it at that, okay? I don’t want to talk about this anymore.” You can tell he doesn’t believe you and that he wants to know more, but he goes silent. 

“Promise me you’re not betraying me and working behind my back?”  

“Yeah, I promise. I'd never do something like that to you.” He stares at you for a second, trying to detect any hints of a lie, but you’re being completely truthful. 

“Fine. I won’t forget about this though, alright?”  

“I’m still not gonna tell you how I know, no matter how much you ask me.” He takes another long sip of his tea, shaking his head, a small smile playing on his lips. 

“You’re no fun.”

You said that we were fated to something. What’d you mean by that?” He expects a clever quip or an easy deflection, something just aggravating enough to rile him up until he’s yelling about things that don’t matter—whatever point he’d been trying to make now long gone. What he gets instead is silence.
