#i want MY da2 2.0

Note
for the bingo, i really want to hear your thoughts on aveline, sera and compulsory solas lol
Tumblr media
my first playthrough i did not appreciate sera near enough, but i always try to befriend everybody my first go around and honestly? by the time we were pulling pranks together i loved her. i def made the mistake of underestimating how smart she actually is my first go around. and i love to see just how she's grown by trespasser! honestly one of my fave chars in dai and an absolute blast to write.
Tumblr media
i legitimately love aveline i know people here reeeeally dislike her but there has never been a moment where i did not love her. she is like a sister to my hawke. i love whatever tf she has going on with anders and isabela. let her stick her thumb in her husband's ass. also, on a more serious note, i was watching my bro play da2 when i lost my mother, and her cutscene after leandra dies ("and when someone tells you to 'move on', you take their hand and tell them 'my choice') was exactly what i needed to hear.
Tumblr media
ooooooh the egg. ouch ouch ouch. imma be real with you even though i played inquisition in like, 2019, i still somehow avoided spoilers. just. read a list of best romances, decided to romance solas because i always play a lady elf first and he was consistently listed top or second (i did not want to date cullen because he looked like alistair 2.0 and i could never love a blondie like i love him) and went on my merry way. i honestly was so confused why so many people were into this scrunky man, and oh boy did i learn. fell head over heels for him. right before the crestwood scene the first DAD teaser came out and ofc i didn't think it would have spoilers so i watched it at work. queue gdl ominously saying "i suspect you have questions". immediate panic. went home and got broken up with. legitimately cried. he is a rollercoaster, super pathetic and antithetical, incredibly interesting, and, now that i am no longer blinded by the glorious sheen of his bald head, i can admit that he is legitimately a very beautiful person (if a lil funny looking at times). he is everything to me.

kinda weird how hell-bent i am at making my canon warden a mage when mage origin in da:o is probably the weakest origin out of, what, all 6 of the origin stories for the warden? it’s so flavourless, there is very little that makes the mage character super emotionally engaging, and the mage warden is the most blank slated out of all the possible warden. Plus, since the very first game in the series most of the mage origin story is just the protagonist asking lore-related questions that they should already know the answers to. but idk it’s just so much more fun making a mage/magic based builds, i do not have time to read and digest shits like “cry of valour: cooldown decreases by 75% when you are staggered and your health regenerate 0.5 second faster on each critical hit (stacking)”, cause bro that’s the kind of shit i have to read when i choose which abilities to unlock for a warrior or rogue and that’s just too many numbers and math and not enough texts about setting people on fire.
that being said, i have been feeling pretty lukewarm for my male!surana for a very long time. i didnt like my female!surana at all, and my m!surana is basically a projection of my desire to romance morrigan and have kieran with morrigan and also a projection of maglor (the one in my head aka a vast expansion on what tolkien has written on paper, which is pityingly little). Also, considering that my canon lavellan is already an elf dude and a mage, do i need another elf mage??? i think i met the quota for elf mages. listen, i made my surana a detailed backstory that has nothing to do with maglor in any capacity (and the flexibility of mage origin to adapt to any sort of backstory you might want for your mage warden is one of its few saving graces), but appearance and personality wise he’s just...he’s just so maglor (the one in my head). Also, i could just spent more time fleshing out maglor (in the fanfics i still haven’t written--partially because the chapter outlines kept changing) if this dragon age elf player character is just maglor 2.0. personally, i pick established canon characters over my ocs and anybody else’s ocs any day. plus, i want my original characters to be actually, you know, original.
i’m seriously considering having a female mahariel as my canon warden right now. in my opinion city elf origin is THE best warden origin, hands down, but merrill’s presence as a npc and the explicit connection and introduction to the eluvian (which is important across all three games) in dalish elf origin makes me prefer the dalish origin more from time to time. i always want leliana to be my canon dao romance and i think just yesterday i had the idea for the right gal to romance her. someone who’s original enough and someone who’s satisfactory enough of a character that can make that wish come true. i can’t even play da:o right now but i already looked at rogue builds for da:o lol (the best build is dual wield assassin, coincidentally my favourite rogue build in dai). my “canon” da2 and dai protags are both mages, it’s time for a change.
#mae overshares#well. for da2 i can only have a mage tbh i dont think warrior or rogue hawke could realistically be able to fight arishok#as much as i want my hawke to be a rogue i guess my warden will be the gal to be the first (and so far the only) rogue in the lineup#i will get a city elf to romance alistair. because he always has a flower for f!warden and it breaks my heart that he has to ditch it#had the warden choose someone else as their love. it just sucks. i feel bad for him. but also i heard his romance was sweet#but...no happily ever after i think my future city and dalish elf wardens are gonna die#they arent gonna make the deal with morrigan! no old god baby kieran for morrigan in their timelines#honestly it's leliana's grief over losing f!warden and how that grief would harden her in dai that inspires me to make this (to be) warden#what can i say i love tragedies and processing grief. but more importantly it was obvious that the wardens are meant 2 die at the end of dao#just like leliana will be 'hardened' in da:i regardless what happened in da:o. it just makes sense! from a narrative standpoint!#i was looking through lis 3 playthrough and charlotte's anger really struck a chord with me#the way she was so angry in the aftermath of the death of a lover. that anger born out of grief and love was just so real and heartbreaking#and btw charlotte was a sweet and caring person and her anger adds a layer to her character that makes her more complex and compelling to me#leliana is a sweet and caring person too. and i think it's just interesting to explore the anger she'd undoubtedly felt#when she lost the warden. especially if the warden helps her realize that she can become more than what her abuser and groomer mold her to b#someone she has such deep bond with. someone who changed her life. and one day that person is just gone#grief that has nowhere to go becomes anger. and to survive that anger. to outlast that fire. takes strength and it takes thick skin#your heart grow callouses from fighting that anger. your heart becomes stone. and it stays that way long after the anger turns into ash#i guess i just wanna explore that in leliana. i think it makes her a more layered and nuanced character. that anger and that grief

I read your tags for dragon age and like I n DA4 we'll be in Tevinter. Mages already rule and they actively subjugate and even enslave people. Do you think you would still side with mages? I have always sided with mages bc yeah but Tevinter isn't like the rest of Thedas. What do you think bc I've been struggling with this thought since the first teaser...
hey there! so first, i’d like to say that it’s very likely i won’t pay da4. I hated DAI on many, many levels, and though I did enjoy some things, it’s overall a game I don’t like and wouldn’t recommend to anyone. So if da4 resembles DAI more than it does DA2 or DAO, I probably won’t play it.
But for the sake of argument, and just in case I do end up playing it, here’s what I think:
1. I don’t think they’ll have us side once more on the mage/templar debate. They’ve done that for the past two games (and arguably in DAO too, although it was a less prevalent plot point) and I don’t think that conflict has the same weight in Tevinter. Templars are basically useless in that context, because mages have such a different societal rank, place, and power, that you can’t think of them as mages.
I’m going to give an example that I think is fitting. See how black people are treated in north-america, and the power law enforcement has over them? Let’s say black people are mages, and law enforcement are the templars. In that context, siding with the templars is a terrible thing to do, considering the oppression and the power they have over mages. Now let’s say you suddenly move to Mali, or Ghana. The population will be an overwhelming majority of black people, with law enforcement being of the same ethnicity. Now, every disparity in power between citizens and law enforcement will come from the inherent inbalance between those two groups, and the civil rights breaches will be limited to human rights, and not racism anymore. Does that make sense? I hope it does. So if your Ferelden, for ex, is the US, then Tevinter is Ghana. Suddenly, siding with the mages doesn’t make sense anymore. It’s like being in Ghana and saying you side with black people. I sure hope you do, it’s their fucking country!
So that’s why I think the devs won’t write in the mage/templar conflict. I personally think the conflict will be more in line with Fenris’ storyline in DA2. I think they’ll have you choose between siding with the Magisterium, the people in power, in order to gain an alliance or something to fight the big bad threat, and between siding with, most likely, either a slave rebellion or the mages of lower class Tevinter, who aren’t Magisters, just mages (I know there’s a canon word for it but I can’t remember).
In that case, I’d personally side with the slaves, all day, every day. Now, what they could do to make that choice very interesting and agonizing, would be to be unequivocally brutal about the consequences. For ex, because you pissed off the Magisters and sided with the slaves, the Magisters won’t join you in the big battle. You therefor have so little forces that the losses you suffer in the battle are tremendous. I’m talking companions dying permenantly, civilian death, many slaves dying if they join you, etc. Now, your choice is interesting. Do you free the slaves or aid the lower class mages, in exchange for most of their lives? Or do you side with the Magisters, keeping the slaves alive but still in slavery?
Anyway, that was me fantasying about the writers having balls and finally writing consequences for their so-called “big choices”.
But let’s actually answer your question.
2. I would still side with the mages, if the mage/templar conflict was maintained. Here’s my reasoning: all the bad shit we hear about Tevinter comes from the Chantry, who hates them, ex-slaves or mages who suffered under their power, or templars who are basically just the Chantry 2.0. Now, the bad shit you hear about the Templar is, imo, so much fucking worse. Because to me, slavery is NOT related to the Magisters being mages. It’s related to them being awful fucking people, bigots and racists and morally bankrupt. I don’t believe that to be an inherent quality of mages. So, in a matter of civil rights, should I refuse black people rights because there are looters in BLM protests? Fuck no. My hope is that the writers will be clever about this and siding with mages won’t mean siding with slavers, because that would undermine the message they tried to get across in the last three games (as awkward as it was). Forcing us to side with the templars because suddenly mages are assholes will be an empty-ass choice.
3. Magisters don’t equal Mages. I’m pretty sure it’s Dorian who makes a point of this, but my memories of DAI are fuzzier than those of the other two games so I could be wrong. So we could side with the mages without siding with the Imperium, depending on how the writers handle it
4. Templars are just so fucking terribles, and that includes to themselves. Samson is such a sad character, seriously. Not only do they destroy mages’ lives, but they destroy the lives of their own recruits. I will never not be angry whenever I see that cutscene with Cullen where he’s such an abusive asshole to Willmord in DA2, after the poor guy was tortured and abused. And when you free the other recruit, he’s punished and set back years if you select the right options, and down-right expelled or killed, which will lead to his sister dying of starvation too. So the “good” ending is this guy stuck in the same rank for 10 years because he was tortured? WTF??? And Cullen is like “oh yeah this is such a good thing i’m doing for him” like fuck this guy omfg i hate him. Ahem. anyway.
5. In the end, I think it comes to this: the conflict is different in Tevinter because the culture is different. If the writers do their job right, the conflict should reflect that. If they don’t, it’ll suck ass but I’d still side with the mages. Putting up Templars to replace Magisters in the Imperium won’t be what frees the slaves or gets the lower class mages out of poverty, trust me on that. On the contrary, even. When have they shown an ounce of compassion or kindness, and especially for slaves, elves and mages?
Wow that got very long, but I’m passionate about this. Hope that helps! Feel free to ask other stuff if you want to keep discussing this, I think it’s a very interesting topic. Thanks for asking and have a great day, my friend.

@lord-shaxxophone Hi!! Sorry to bother, but i’m finally going to have a computer for the first time in forever, which means i can use MODS now, and i’ve seen you using a lot of cool mods over the years! Do you have a recommendation list of mods anywhere? If not, do you think you could give me a run down of your favorites for the dragon age games? Or just one of them, i don’t want to take up too much of your time. Thank you!!

For the DADWC: The taste of salt on the tip of your tongue, for any pairing of your choice!
Ooooh I had an idea for this and ran with it, I hope you enjoy!
(If you’d like me to write you a dragon age fic, send me a prompt from here!)
@dadrunkwriting
Pairing: Marian Hawke/Isabela
Characters: Marian Hawke, Isabela
Tags: post da2, Siren’s Call 2.0, nudity, explicit reference to sex (but no actual depiction of sex), anti-chantry, mage hawke
Rating: Mature
“CHOIR BOYS TO STARBOARD.”
Isabela is first out of bed. She doesn’t bother grabbing her tunic as the ship’s alarm bell tolls above them on deck, loud enough to send the cured timber shivering. Instead she seizes her cutlass and slams the door open, blade flashing like lightning to accompany the thunder crack of wood on wood.
Dazed, hair mussed, Marian scrambles to her feet at the end of the bed and picks up her staff, feeling magic already beginning to buzz through her veins as she stumbles through the dark belly of the ship towards the stairs leading onto the deck above. Already there’s the dull, almost electric sound of templar magic on the ship itself, accompanied by the distinctive music of steel on steel.
Marian has one foot on the wooden staircase when a sudden explosion rocks the boat, and she’s sent sliding up the wall of the corridor to hit her head hard against the ceiling. The magic she’d been building between her fingers spasms, scorching the wood around her.
“Maker’s tits!” Marian yelps. Isabela will have her fixing that later. She did not take well to people scarring her ship.
A screaming templar comes falling down the staircase as the ship rocks back onto her belly with a crash of saltwater. Marian presses against the wall to keep from being dragged down with him, and looks up at the doorway to see Isabela: naked as the day she was born, brown skin dusted silver by the moon at her back, long hair loose and wild as the sea.
The templar tries to get onto his hands and knees. It’s no easy feat in full plate armour in a corridor this narrow. Marian stares at her lover for a moment longer, doing everything she can to tear her eyes away from her heaving breast. Her daze is broken by Isabela herself: “Hawke! Don’t just stand there looking pretty!”
That’s enough. Marian pushes up the loose linen sleeve of the laced shirt she’s barely wearing, and swings her staff. Electricity and plate armour do not mix well. She doesn’t bother to wait for the templar to stop shuddering: the smell of burning flesh tells her she doesn’t need to.
At the top of the staircase, Isabela has already turned and launched herself back into the fray. Marian takes a moment to appreciate the sheer, stupid courage of her lover before scrambling up the staircase after her and onto the tilting deck.
Around them, the sea is strangely quiet: in the midst of a battle such as this, Marian wants it to roar, to rage and crash and toss them about as the toys they are to its immensity. But instead, the waves lap gently against the ship’s keel, utterly indifferent to the chaos above them.
A templar falls overboard as Isabela’s first mate, a qunari woman named Nihay, kicks him in the chest. She leans over the side of the boat to check he’s drowning, and that gives another behind her the opportunity to attempt to push her too.
Marian feels the cold in her fingertips before she’s even thought to cast the spell. She shouts Nihay’s name and freezes the templar solid. Nihay turns, startled, and nods her thanks at Marian across the deck before sinking both of her swords neatly into what had been the templar’s chest. She shatters.
No one seems particular disturbed by Isabela’s nudity. A few of the templars have made the unfortunate assumption that this has rendered her helpless. Marian can hear her lover’s laughter as she jumps nimbly up onto the railing beside the staircase that leads to the upper deck. She watches, heart pounding against her chest, as Isabela ducks a broad sword and slides down the bannister on the balls of her feet, dragging her dagger up the side of the templar’s armour under their arm, slicing through the leather straps there. As Isabela passes him, she turns and grabs the back plate of his armour, pulling it hard and jumping lightly onto the deck.
The templar stumbles back, armour coming loose, and Isabela leaps forward, murmuring something into his ear just before she stabs him in the back.
Marian thinks, standing there, that if she asked that woman to marry her again right then and there under a full moon over a templar’s bloody body, she’d die a happy woman.
Then someone tries to grab her from behind, and her hands and forearms set themselves on fire as she turns to shove them away, tuning out the screams of the unhappy templar in their now boiling armour as they stumble back. Marian stalks forward, spinning her staff, staring straight into the fire when she snarls. “Don’t touch me again.”
*
It’s an easier battle than it should have been. The templars took them by surprise: Hawke and Isabela had been indisposed, and Bela’s elvhen quartermaster Devenna had only just managed to scramble to the alarm bell in time. But they’re alive, and they’ve lost no one, and the Siren is seaworthy. It’s enough.
Isabela is still naked. She’d refused to leave the deck until she was satisfied that her crew were well, and if not well then able to survive the night. They weren’t far from a little Rivaini island named Sousia, and they could stop if need be.
Satisfied that they didn’t need to, Isabela let out a long breath, ringed fingers clicking against the hilt of her cutlass. Nihay steps forward. The qunari woman easily has two feet on Isabela, but the expression on her face cannot be mistaken for anything other than respect.
“You should rest, kadan.”
Isabela looks up at her first mate, and offers her a small smile. Her chest and belly are smeared with soot and dried blood that’s nearly black in the starlight. The dip of her spine is kissed with sweat. There are a few red blooming bruises pressed across her thighs and upper arms, but she is miraculously unharmed, and Hawke is fairly certain that doesn’t have much to do with the shield she’d been attempting to raise around her lover for most of the fight.
“Na’thek. Can you take it from here?”
Nihay grins, broadly, “Captain, I feel it is a little late for you to be doubting my competency now.”
Isabela laughs, and it’s a rough, low thing, a little hoarse with her exhaustion. She claps Nihay’s generous bicep, and squeezes her arm once. “Alright. I’ll see you in the morning, love.”
Nihay’s grin softens, and she ducks her head, silver-gray hair slipping forward over her broad shoulder. “Yes, captain.”
At last, Isabela turns to Marian, and she grins, broadly, stepping forward to catch Marian’s face between her warm, salt-rough, sword-calloused hands and pull her in for a hard, fervent kiss. Marian shuts her eyes, and breathes in through her nose the smell of Isabela, which persists even through the hot metal and chemical lyrium stench of the templars. She still smells of roses and the sea.
When Marian is fairly certain she’s become unmoored from the deck of the ship and is happily drifting into the stars themselves, Isabela pulls back, playfully kissing the tip of her nose. “Now, where were we?”
Isabela’s hand falls to Marian’s, and their fingers entwine as Marian lets herself be pulled back to the captain’s quarters, to recommence where they’d left off. Even after the battle, she still has the taste of salt on her tongue.

my hopes & fears for Anthem 2.0
this got long, so I’m putting it under a cut. I promise my new theme is easier to read lol
Hopes:
new music by Sarah Schachner. she had some really interesting musical ideas, I’d love to see what else she had in mind that got cut for development reasons. and I’d love to see what she can do with whatever the writers give us for 2.0
more interaction with our current NPCs! I’d die happy to see more of Catherine Tate/Max. would any of them be willing to come back, with all of the bad press Anthem 1.0 had? I hope so...
more vertically planned maps, and more places to travel! I’d love to see Antium and the Satomi, or an Arcanist academy, or fly to another one of the tree-plateaus we can see at the edge of Freeplay.
remember those Acts? I liked that idea, and also would dearly appreciate a chance to make choices that effect (at least) character relationships.
C O M P A N I O N S. if we had balanced companions in Inquisition, we can handle balance in Anthem. make them unable to fly (like Sentinels!!) or make the Strider actually present and useful, or someone like Elizabeth in Bioshock, who heals and throws us useful things. or maybe just banter over the comms! IDK, it just gets lonely with silent strangers in my party
cloaks for the other javs. totally inconsequential but can’t you just see a Big Boi doing a superman landing with a giant FLAG coming in behind him?
colored jets. also totally inconsequential but a girl can dream
secondary fort/safe places/launch bays! how cool would it be to enter a cave in Freeplay and pop into first person mode to hang out with Zhim? (or stay in our javs and dance with friends lol)
more Big monsters to fight
I would like to load any map from the Cataclysm or the Conjunctions at any time. put it behind a level lock I DON’T CARE
I want to see my Lancer’s face in the Fort. I want to spin around them, take group photos, and run into walls for a closeup. Bioware gave a fantastic diversity in our faces, but we can only see them if we use the OG helmets, and only briefly.
Fears:
new music by another composer. I wouldn’t blame Sarah for not coming back but it would be sad.
tiny maps, chopped up and repeated over and over for different missions like Destiny. “But Batmares,” I hear my 5 active followers say, “isn’t that already how it is? they use the freeplay map for everything!” Hell No,  the Bastion map is absolutely massive, textured, varied, and scaled to outclass us. even doing Brin’s always-in-the-North missions don’t take us to the same spot every time, unlike the 3 hours of Destiny missions I’ve played where I got confused because the map was exactly the same. even back in DA2 days Bioware knew to change up the route, but if they forget that (or are forced to) it will feel like we’re being railroaded. like any other looter-shooter.
which brings me to my biggest fear, they wipe out the story thus far. Fort Tarsis and Urgoth/Owen included. that they do a total story reset. they kill our Freelancer, or skip ahead 100 years and we’re just a legend. I would be absolutely devastated to lose my lancer; I would sit on the floor and weep. if and how they plan to explain the changes is a HUGE concern to me.
Bioware, I love this game. It’s monstrously big, runs terribly without a 5 star ISP, and the plot was too short. It felt like the game stopped once we got to Haven and escaped Corypheus. But the music has a mysterious, vast feel to it, the characters were just as well-written as in any other Bioware game (yes I said any, come at me), flight and the javelins are a totally incomparable experience, and even with the hellish development it’s clear someone loved this project. You just needed more time. I know no one at Bioware will see this and that’s okay, I just hope that they know they still have support from the fans. We may not be as vocal as the toxic players, but we are cheering for you.

tumblr doesnt have a poll function so i need some input: who should i romance in dai? I’m btwn Cullen iron bull and blackwall. Iron bull is funny as hell and voiced by freddie prinze jr m childhood crush, blackwall is stoic and a total dilf, cullen is kinda a dick but i totally wanna hit it
I DUNNO WHO YOU ARE BUT IF YOURE THE SAME PERSON THAT ASKED ME ABOUT HINTERLANDS I LOVE YOUR COMMENTARY AND I LOVE YOU AGGAGAGSGSGS
ironbull is probably the most trusted guy I find in dai because he is suave and charming but both because i wanted him with my dwarf inky (my canon one is trevelyan) and because i was so bad at slaying dragons, he wasnt who i romanced.
Bwall has always been kinda like a dad figure for my inky and reminded me of duncan so i didnt romance him. (Headcanon; he and my inky did some wood work together to relax) He is one hell of a dilf in another universe tho so 🌝
And CULLEN. The dumbest thot in gaming history. I hate him. I hate him so much for the shit he did in da2. But,,,BUT HE BECOMES AN ALISTAIR 2.0 WHEN HES IN LOVE. Sigh,,,, and because of that iromanced him. He made me feel good and loved afsfagsg so would probably bang his blondass again. And if youre a mage his attempted redemption feels good but kinda unfinished and i like that too.

Fanfiction: A Year in Review
While I’ve had a pretty productive year academically speaking, I had to put my artistic ventures on hold.  Despite this, I had a lot of fun this year and hope to make even more art in 2019!
So here we are with my 2018 Fanfic Year in Review!
Inquisitors, as far as the eye can see!
1) After You [Prologue]  [Part 1]  [Part 2]  [Part 3] - “Before arriving in Halamshiral for the decennial gathering of the clans, The First asks Virelle to accompany her on a journey to find Hanal'ghilan, the Golden Halla of legend and myth.”
Taking place years before the events of DAI, this story is all about the individual members of clan Lavellan. I plan to post the rest into the new year but for now, you can read the first few chapters on my blog or on AO3!
I should mention again that @bunabi and I developed our Lavellan’s together. Her precious Virelle takes the lead!
2) Keeper Specialization 2.0 -
Not a story, but I decided to revamp the custom Skilltree I made for my Inquisitor, Adaara and I’m pretty proud of the result!
The DA2 Crew
3) Idle Chatter - “Hawke and Justice talk while traversing through the Fade.”
While Justice has been featured in my writing before, this was his first time taking front and center stage! Here we learn how Anders’ perceptions help shape Justice’s own, as well as see how our favorite fade spirit feels about Hawke. #FilandersLITE (And I’m talking real scarce!)
4) Untitled drabble -“Isabela laments about a glorious ship”
Though technically posted in 2017, I posted this one super late into the year. This time, it’s Isabela’s turn to take center stage. She loves big boats and she cannot lie.
5) Clarity - “Sebastian takes a walk in hopes to find some clarity, instead, he runs into a familiar face.”
I have plenty of feelings about Sebastian but I can’t deny he’s a very interesting guy! I realized I’d never featured him in any of my other stories and needed to rectify that. Here we are provided a bit of insight on his relationship and reaction to Hawke.
If you want to read anything from years before or work that’s not featured not on the list, you can find my work here or at @griffinsnoir!

Because I’m still thinking about it, here’s A List Of Dragon Age Game Saves I’ve At Least Started (And Then Deleted When My Computer Ran Out Of Space)
ORIGINS
Kallian Tabris –– f!warrior, sword n’ board, Alistair. Honestly I don’t think I got past Lothering; it was my very first time picking up Origins and I didn’t know what was going on. Not to mention I was playing on a friend’s computer.
Rylan Cousland –– f!warrior, dual wield, Alistair. My only completed playthrough of this fucking game. It took forever.
Thessia Mahariel –– f!rogue, archer, tbd. Definitely still in Lothering. Only played her to meet Tamlen, tbh; I wanted to love her but I didn’t. Yes, I named her after the planet in Mass Effect. Ask me about my DA oneshot character named Ke’lah Selai.
Varainia Surana –– f!mage, arcane warrior, Leliana. Yes I named her that before I started playing in Varania; I found the name in one of Pat Rothfuss’ books. I want to say I left off when I reached Orzammar; I may actually still have the save. Enjoyed the origin, less attached to the character herself.
Lira Cousland –– f!rogue, dual wield mostly, no romance, canon. Currently in the Brecilian Forest. She’s the only save I still definitely have.
DA2
Marian Hawke –– f!warrior, two handed, Fenris, purple, sided with the mages. This was my very first playthrough and first time I got to really take my time with one of the games, and I loved it. DA2 is definitely the best of the three you can’t change my mind.
Marian Hawke 2.0 –– f!mage, force mage, Anders rivalmance but I gave up and went with Isabela instead, very purple, can’t remember who she sided with. Probably the mages.
Maria Hawke –– f!rogue, dual wield, Isabela, red-leaning purple, sided with the templars. Took Bethany to the Deep Roads without Anders specifically for the Angst(TM). Sorry Maria.
Aeron Hawke –– m!mage, spirit healer, Anders, blue, sided with the mages. A very sweet and good lad. Also the first time I played with all the DLC and it was awesome. Plus the m!Hawke Andersmance is way less creepy than the f!Hawke variation.
Thalia Hawke –– f!mage, idk which specialization, Fenris, purple/blue, sided with the mages. My first attempt at a concrete canon playthrough, but honestly I don’t think I finished it.
Katya Hawke –– f!warrior, two handed, Merrill, externally red internally blue. She’s still mid act 2 so no decisions have been made, but I lost the save when I had to delete DA2 off my laptop. Pour one out.
DAI
Mara Trevelyan –– f!mage, knight enchanter, Cullen (BUT I WANTED CASSANDRA), templars. The very first game I ever played in this series (or any RPG) and had no fucking clue what I was doing. I finished it in three days and completely skipped picking up Blackwall somehow. Do not recommend.
? Lavellan –– f!rogue, dual wield, tbd, tbd. Honestly never even made it past the crossroads and then switched to a different system so I can never go back to her game. I can’t even remember what I named her so she doesn’t really count.
Vesper Trevelyan –– f!mage, rift mage, Cullen, templars. Not quite a replay because I skipped so much of that first game; more of an ironing out of decisions I didn’t understand then. Definitely canon. My #1 girl.

Hi! For Amity's worldstate, please, 3, 9, 14, 17, 25
3.What would your Inquisitor generally think of your warden and your Hawke?
I haven’t played my Inquisitor for that worldstate yet but her concept is Nice Vashoth girl who makes good decisions and brings a lighter mood than Amity’s bullshit. She does Not like Amity at all, and finds the things she hears about her terrifying. I’m not sure about Griffon (the Warden in that world state yet). I suspect they’d get along and generally approve of each other.
9. Would your warden or Hawke have actually accepted the role of inquisitor if Cassandra had located them as she’d planned to? Would they have been a good leader for the Inquisition?
Griffon would absolutely not have agreed. Their whole story in Origins is about people attempting to force them into the role of Leader in a Social Setting and they’re incredibly uncomfortable with that, because it means a lot of trying to be cis and allistic and failing even apart from that, feel extremely unqualified and uncomfortable with leading the miserably while not being able to be themself either. They’re not going to go for that again, and Inquisition. They’re not Andrastian and while they support the mages, they feel like they’re too far removed from the situation to really try to bring a peace about here.
Amity would have jumped at the chance, with her number one goal being to become the most powerful person in the world. Her own personal army dedicated to stopping the mage war however she wants sounds great! She would have been a good leader in that she’s charismatic and skilled in leadership. But like, she would use the Inquisition to either enslave or genocide mages and conquer half of Thedas. Which is not so good.
14. If they’d been in each other’s places would they have made the same or different choices? And who would they have romanced, if anyone?
I don’t know about Vashoth yet except that yes she would very definitely have made different choices to Amity in DA2 because she is a decent person, and would possibly have romanced Merrill? Griffon is also a decent person and would have supported mages (and Anders and Justice) in everything and would probably have romanced Fenris or Isabela. They’re not really into any of the Inquisition romance options. Their main choices in Inquisition would be ally with the mages, recruit the Grey Wardens, have Briala rule Orlais, and find an elf to drink from the Well of Sorrows. They also wouldn’t kill any of the dragons because dragons are good and wonderful. I think they actually get the Pools of Sun turned into a wildlife sanctuary sometime before Inquisition. No hurting dragons there allowed.
It is really fun discussing Amity in other games though, so have a Lot of rambling about that. Apart from trying to take over Thedas, Amity as Inquisitor would go to the mages because she wants them, rather than the templars, under her control and would conscript them into the Inquisition. She’d recruit the Wardens to have them under her control too, and set up the alliance between Celene, Gaspard and Briala and try to use the blackmail information she had to control them all, while playing them off against each other. I’m not sure about the Well of Sorrows, if possible, she’d get someone she felt was harmless and who she could easily control to drink.
Regrettably, Amity is attracted to Solas and Dorian. She’s not interested in Blackwall at all until after the Reveal, when he sits in his cell full of self loathing and feeling very easy to manipulate and abuse, and then he’s really hot. Whatever “romance” she goes for will Not go well. Also, Amity would never see Cole because he takes one look at her and goes “NOPE”. He sticks around at the Inquisition and helps all the people she’s abusing see they still have worth and don’t deserve to be treated like this. And now I really love this idea and want to make a villain Inquisitor to do this with and I’m struggling to come up with a concept that’s as awful as Amity without just being Amity 2.0, oops.
Her decisions in Origins are harder because she can’t really see a reason to make many of the “bad” decisions. She’d save Redcliffe and be a Hero to them and then let Isolde sacrifice herself for Connor so she can tell Connor all about how his mum’s death and the shit that happened in Redcliffe was all his fault and make him hate himself. She’s swaying towards Harrowmont for Orzammar, because he’ll keep the casteless down and seems easier to manipulate, but she’d easily go for Bhelen instead if she thought that would make her look better, because she’s not intending to come back to Orzammar, so it doesn’t really matter what’s going on there. She also doesn’t see any reason to keep the Anvil of the Void, sure, it could make people suffer, but she doesn’t need to visit Orzammar to watch people suffer, so it’s better just to kill Branka to watch Oghren suffer right now, and be able to guilt him over his part in it.
I’m really not sure what she does with the werewolves and elves. Like, sure, she’s racist towards elves and would like to kill them but she also feels the same way about the werewolves. I think it comes down to whether she thinks she can’t justify genociding the Dalish enough to make her companions not realise she’s awful, or whether she’d rather hurt Zevran a lot. It could go either way. Amity wouldn’t desecrate the Urn because there’s no benefit to that. She’d kill Loghain because he could be dangerous and she wants to keep Alistair onside, and she’d make Alistair king, if possible with herself as queen.
She thinks Alistair and Zevran are both very good romance options (by which we mean very easy to abuse) but in the end I think she’d go with romancing Alistair, but fucking Zev because he did swear an oath to her. And then, presuming she treats Alistair the same way she treated Anders, things get Interesting, because there’s no way she’s going to let someone who belongs to Her fuck Morrigan. Which, in Amity’s opinion, means there are four ways the end of the game could go.
Alistair kills the Archdemon and dies. Amity loses both her favourite toy and her shot at being queen, while Alistair is remembered as a great hero.
Alistair kills the Archdemon but Riordan is wrong. Alistair survives and is held up as a great hero, surpassing Amity.
Amity kills the Archdemon and dies. This sucks for her, but she’ll be remembered as a great hero and if she guilts Alistair about it before she goes, he’ll hate himself for ages and potentially never get over her. So all in all it’s about as bad as option 2.
Amity kills the Archdemon but Riordan is wrong. She survives and gets everything.
So that’s how the actual worst person in the world would end up doing the Ultimate Sacrifice. It’s also how the Blight doesn’t actually end, because like the Darkspawn, Amity doesn’t have a soul.
17. If Origins and Inquisition had the 3 personalities (Diplomatic, Sarcastic, Aggressive) which would your warden and inquisitor have predominantly been? And what one did your Hawke have?
I suspect my Vashoth is going to be mostly diplomatic. Griffon would likely be a mix of diplomatic and direct-red. They’re not very aggressive but they don’t understand why they can’t just say what they mean. Amity was almost exclusively sarcastic; she’s just everyone’s good mate who tells shitty jokes and doesn’t take anything seriously, and not a total monster at all!!
25. What is/was their relationship with their family like?
I don’t know about my Vashoth yet. Amity gets along well with her family to make her life easier. She doesn’t give a shit about Leandra and Carver though, because there are very few people she actually gives a shit about at all. She’s delighted when Leandra gets kidnapped by a murderous blood mage because this gives her an excuse to be even grosser to mages, and wastes time looking for Leandra to raise the chance of her being dead by the time Amity got to her. She hates Bethany probably more than she hates anyone. Bethany got magic that gave her power Amity didn’t have, and their parents’ desire to protect their mage daughter dragged Amity back for years.
Griffon’s relationship with their family is not great. At the start of the game, they’re trying to be a good daughter but not even managing to be a daughter at all, and their parents aren’t willing to consider that their child isn’t allistic or cis. There’s a lot of stuff like having to wear fancy dresses that give Griffon dysphoria and unpleasant sensory stimulation, and then Griffon has a meltdown and their parents get disappointed in them for behaving like a child and embarrassing everyone.
Griffon loves their family though and is distraught about their deaths. They continue to try and be a Good Noble Girl to honour their family’s wishes, letting Eamon arrange for them to be married to Alistair (so that he can rule through Two easily manipulated politically un-savvy people) until the end of the game. At the end, they let themself free of what their parents and Eamon and everyone else wants, and go to rebuild the Wardens and marry Zevran. They’re very happy to discover Fergus survived, as well as relieved that he can now rule Highever instead of them, but let him know that they’re Griffon and they/them now, and if he can’t deal with that then they’re not going to get along anymore, sorry.

Made it to meeting Briar on Tucdela 2.0 and well, I always love my girl Briar lmao.
Actually got her face tattoo from DA2 so that was great, and a hair that doesn’t clip her amor so double yay. She’s very hard to make look right in DAI, can’t lie. BUT she talked about Anders like they were actually in a relationship and it made me want to cry a little bit.
“After someone betrays you like that it takes a long time to get past it. I don’t know that we ever have. But I can’t just give up on him.”
