I think the things that offend me most nowadays in like, smaller interpersonal interactions rather than grand, sweeping trends in culture, are when people chose to not partake in a wide set of things. Like musical close mindedness, or refusal to try different foods from different cultures. Not watching an entire subset of films bc they’re ‘french’. Avoiding reading bc you say you have adhd and it’s too hard. Like dude I get it, I’m busy. I can be picky. Everyone can. But the willful ignorance of closing yourself off to those VAST portions of the human experience, and not having curiosity and a lust to learn and explore art that was made by someone worlds apart from you either in terms of their culture, era, whatever. I dunno man it just pisses me off so bad. I think it’s arrogant. Like oh you’re comfortable in your safe little bubble huh? And you’re enforcing its barriers with the excuse that you’re autistic and have sensory issues. With music made by black people?? lol okay. It is pretty presumptuous for me to assume malicious intent but I think those prejudices are borne from either the comfort of being someone who’s wealthy and probably white not feeling the need to learn past what they think is enough, or it’s a reflection of a society that’s taught you to prioritize what it shills— popular, current (white, depending where you live ig) artists who are making streamlined, easy to digest content. Often when I meet people with these issues they’ll have one particular ‘niche’, and it tends to be like. 70s music. Victorian literature. Anime and Japanese games. But they’re still not really investing beyond the media presented. Like there’s so much more to Japanese culture than liking some cartoons put out between 2010-2020. You don’t gotta become some sorta Einstein who learns the background of every little freak in FGO yeah. But don’t you wanna aim higher? Aren’t you interested in any of the historical figures? And nothings wrong with hopping onto a trend. You read Dracula bc of that Dracula daily thing. Cool! Read more. Some people will say they’re chronically ill or disabled and can’t get outside. That’s okay. The internet is full of things you can read other than fanfiction, YouTube has a shit ton of free music. There’s Wikipedia and free articles online if you have questions about things. Yeah nobody is spending four hours a day looking at the national archives website and studying art history but it’s imbued in the things around you, and youll absorb it ambiently as you go along. you dont have to be a jack of all trades and cover every major genre of every major medium, but it never hurts to try! I really love seeing ppl ask too. Bc it can be kind of humiliating to admit to what seems like some jackass hipster that you’ve never delved into, idk, Serbian films (lol not that one). And hopefully if whoever you’re asking will give you honest good recommendations and not berate you. I’m kind of berate a straw man rn I guess. The hostile tone def doesn’t lend to an atmosphere of sharing but I cannot tell you how many times I’ve rbed anything involving specifically jazz only to see someone rb and add the stupidest comment on the post, or in the tags, or go into my inbox to be like waaah I don’t like jazz bc it’s boring and old and for pretentious hypocrites who hate neurodivergent people! Like what are you TALKING about. Fine if you don’t like it but don’t try and rationalize that as a moral standing you shit lark. And just as they’re allowed to dislike jazz I’m allowed to not really enjoy people who don’t like jazz. Or country. Nautical knots. Knit wear. Watching urbex YouTubers get their shit rocked by squatters. Korean food. Pachuco fashion and stupid ugly low riders. Bollywood films. and they don’t want to try any of those things either yknow? The next thing I’m getting into is circuit bending.

Just wanna say I love that, even though she isn't keeping her hair in the classic Sword Forme and is a lot more plump, it's still Extremely clear that it's Jesse you're drawing in the hanamusa comics. She really shines through in your art.

Waaah that makes me so happy! One of my favorite things to draw is time skip designs and exploring how a character might change. It's a fun challenge to make sure that they still feel like the person (especially challenging without color haha)

Art Goals/Wishes for 2024:

🪐 Finish my graphic design apprenticeship 🪐 Properly start my online shop and begin selling some prints. Hopefully adding more products little by little! 🪐 Start drawing a bigger fan-comic project I've already been outlining since a month or so. (Hint: Purple Wizard) 🪐 Make some concepts for two original story ideas I've been thinking about since years. I don't think I will start them next year but I want to outline a rough pitch and summary. That fancomic project is going to be a way for me to test the waters with something more plot-heavy and to see if I won't just abandon a project like that. 🪐 I really wanna do an official cover for something that is actually printed out. Like a book/comic cover, a poster, a design for something, etc. This might never happen but one can dream haha. 🪐 Play more dnd!!! Draw more personal dnd stuff cuz that's fun!! I love my dnd group waaAH! 🪐 More original paintings! Experiment more with messy brush strokes! I want more sharp edges and texture. 🪐 Long overdue, but I want to finally paint some book fanarts. Looking at you Baru Cormorant and Goblin Emperor/Cemetries of Amalo...

how exciting!! i just checked out the little preview you posted and what a beautiful little droplet of writing!!! i cannot wait to read the rest. please please please tag me when you post it; jackson joel is my favorite joel and i am soooo intrigued to read and devour 🍓

formatting-wise, i pretty much just laid things out how i thought they looked best. you always want your warnings to be visible just in case there's anything that might require a heads up for some readers, also helps to include a summary of the fic somewhere, and i always pop a word count on there, too...but whatever works for you! i guess just consider what info you look for before reading a fic and piece it together that way.

i took inspo from many other writers on here with the whole three-photo header thing. i just pick three images that either capture the vibe of the fic or literally just pieces of the plot lol and put them up top. i try my best to be as inclusive as possible so where i can help it: i try not to use specific skintones or hair colors, body types etc. this isn't always perfect, though, and it's something i always want to be improving on. (straying from specific bodies in your mbs does mean that you can get a little more creative with em and use fun art over real-life images, which a lot of wonderful writers do!)

as for posting: i have posted at all times of day before...in all honesty, i'm not sure when is best as a. there are so many readers on here from all over the world who will eat up your work at any time, and b. i typically hit post and then toss my phone for a few hours - but i guess the later in the day, the better for exposure and engagement? as people will be home from work and school etc., and have the time to check it out.

try not to get hung up on this part, tho! i live by the mantra that the people the fic is for, will come across it one way or another - and not all fics are instant hitters. that's ok! sometimes it takes time for something to gain eyes on it. post for yourself. have fun with it. numbers mean nothing 🤍

I bought the official pamphlet of the Gotouge exhibition, and it has the titles of 25 arcs of the "Zenitsu-den." I was surprised to see English on a lot of the panels at the gallery but didn't recall seeing translations of these, but it was toward the end of the gallery and the line was starting to move at a pace I couldn't control, so I paid more attention to the art instead, as the titles all seemed ridiculous. Reading the chapter titles just now I was rolling my eyes at how outlandish they are, and then I got to the last ones and made a very strange "waAAH!" noise and I wanna cry; I didn't think I was going to take any of this seriously but--but but but--- Okay, so, I mi-i-i-ight need to put some other posts I wanted to write on hold in favor of a Zenitsu-den analysis. (And I'm excited to write those posts, so yeah.) For now, suffice to say that not only is Zenitsu musically talented, but he is remarkably talented at visual art as well--at least when he loves his subject matter, that is. There's a Taisho Rumor that states he's gotten a bit famous for being a man who can only produce photo-realistic his paintings one particular model, and he has been offered money for them many times, but he throws a fit so bad that he's been known to rip his own trousers as he screams, "WHO WOULD SELL THEIR OWN WIFE!?!"

What wasn't stated in any of this is what the other painter among this cast might have thought of this. I can just imagine it, Yushiro starting this hobby quietly, being frustrated with how he fails to quite capture Tamayo-sama's beauty, and partly with paintings easily because he sees them as no good. Then, when he hears about Zenitsu's declaration, he goes through a sea of inner turmoil about how Zenitsu puts him to shame with his devotion (Tamayo was never his wife... but still, how could he!! How dare he!!!!), and that he must recover all the paintings before anyone ever finds out he ever parted with any of them. That's just my headcanon for Yushiro going on off on desperate secret antics though. He's got enough time on his hands for art heists.

(Anyway, previously leaked material about Zenitsu depicting himself as a dashing hero with a magnificent mustache and chin-hair and drawing other men who are irritatingly close to Nezuko as ugly characters still stands (as well as that the more attractive they are in real life the uglier he draws them), though the author is sad to be a chubby sweet-tooth in real life who cannot manage to grow a beard.)

WAAAH reading these things gives me so much euphoria?!!!! Such a big positive emotion holy shit wow.

Something that doesn’t go noticed, but most of my designs always take a lot of internal mental contemplation, which honestly can take me anywhere from a few days to full on months. For example; I only recently got around to designing Kim, but the thought process that went into her design before drawing it goes all the way back to last summer- isjfjskfkldkd.

To be completely and utterly honest, almost all the chapter art is done within an hour or less. I always have massive guilt of drawing art for myself that isn’t my commissions, so it’s hard to let myself have this ‘big detailed piece’ that doesn’t swallow up all the time I would’ve used doing my work. I have been trying to balance it better though- so later chapter’s art is starting to slowly look better.

Ngl chapter 3’s art was one of the fastest rushed pieces I ever did. Still ended up working because it kinda foreshadows what’s to come- iskfkskfjdkdk

Honest to god ramble away, hearing people’s thoughts on my work is what pushes me to continue every day.

Screen Protector Works!

I decided to see if I could draw my characters without painstakingly rendering their heads in another doc and then copy-pasting them wherever I needed them. Also without erasing or touching the line tool. I guess so? But I still need to look at my cheat sheets. I may have a bit of an imagination deficit, autism-related or no. Situations, yes. Objects in space? Ah, no.

I dunno if that reads as John, but that's certainly how he feels. I am, indeed, completing his narrative arc - for now. I will not stop. More character development is coming! But maybe he can have a doughnut when he's all done with his latest freakout. If the lion doesn't eat them all. (I am not kidding, there is a lion and he will totally eat the doughnuts.)

The spouse says "just trying my gay little best" is T-shirt gold. Maybe I'll do you some printable designs when I'm ready to art for serious.

I get way better art results if I make a reference and trace it. I have a lot of ways to generate references, but I mainly cut and paste public domain stuff. I used to steal stock photos, 'cos I started out making my references and then drawing them on paper, but tracing might get me in trouble if the end result resembles the original too much. After an attempt to pay for photos like a good consumer, I got annoyed with the cut corporations take. And now that there's all this AI shit in the public domain, I'm looking into buying a digital model. I probably won't find one with, like, a toaster, but hands, bodies and some basic props are possible.

In other news, I'm trying to clean and organize my shit on this new computer and:

I MISS SHADING! WAAAH!

I used to be so good at making things look wet! And hair! I know why I quit, and the eyestrain is still a factor, but I wanna do it that way. I don't like shadow puppets anymore! I'm pretty sure I stole the shape of those headphones off some Amazon product information, but all the shading and texturing is me... and pattern-fill, but... Look! I even did some freckles! I can do that if I cause myself pain, and pain is so fleeting! I don't even remember!

*sigh* I'm not gonna try it. I'm not. Not right now. I don't have the stamina. I WANT the stamina, but that means eye exercises, every day, for I dunno how long. Probably forever, though I must assume they won't hurt as much later. But I dunno if I'll ever be able to put the time into an image like that again. I got, like, a half hour drawing time right now, max. That's not even long enough to remember how I used to do that in Paint.net. It's barely enough to get used to the screen protector.

God, I know every smooth line in that is the shape tool or the line tool. That's bonkers. Maybe if I get used to GIMP again I'll be able to draw faster. Even with the screen protector, Paint.net captures my wobbles - as is evident. What a difference a digital assist makes.

I don't have a super clearly defined age range, and I don't really know a lot about what kids are like, but I would have to venture a guess maybe 3-5? I looove preschool and kindergarten stuff so much, it's a huge comfort for me!!

🍪 cookie: do you have any little gear?

I have a little but my collections pretty small rn (🥁bu-dum-tss)! I got a super duper awesome paci from @princeminnow !! Its a converted nuk one, which I totally love! Personally, I would love love looove more adult pacis that look like real baby pacis from nuk and stuff, and minnow does that so well!! And it glows in the dark!! I also have an alphabet onesie, but I don't wear it often. I'm still trying to get used to it, I get very anxious about people finding me unfortunately. But I'm working on it, I love the design! Besides that I have bat bear and my baby journal plus my stickers and arts n crafts supplies!!

☁️cloud: do you use diapers?

At the moment I don't, same worries about someone finding my stuff, but honestly I would really like to try them!! They seem very cozy and the concept has always comforted me - I don't talk much about it on my main cuz I don't wanna make anyone uncomfortable or go tmi though "^^. But honestly, of everything, I think I would really like pull ups or training pants! They feel really perfect for my regression!

🍑peach: describe your dream nursery (if you have one)

Oooo oo oo fun question!! Honestly, I adore most preschool classrooms, that would be the perfect place to be!! With lots of colorful picture books, and a big old tv to watch tapes of my shows or playhouse Disney, and a big cool carpet with a print I can explore!! Also nice big stuffies to cuddle with, and a nice little bed to nap in with cool sheets n blankets. And I could decorate the windows with my art and crafts!! And there would be a little table to do them at, and a little buggy for snack time. Waaah such a fun idea!!! Here's some pics I've collected that are so totally my happy place ;v;
