Bakugo stepped into the arena to face Todoroki. Present Mic wasted no time announcing the beginning of the match, both boys jumping into action. Ice formed around the arena being blown away by explosions seconds later. Both boys were relentless, never giving their opponent an opening. I could hear Bakugo's incoherent screams from the bleachers and I could see the rage in his eyes but I didn't understand. When Aizawa pointed out Todoroki using only half of his power, Bakugo blew up. Literally. His screams echoed around the stadium as he urged his opponent to fight him full force. That's when Midoriya yelled out, willing Todoroki to fight.
I couldn't take my eyes off Bakugo even if I wanted to. I knew he was good, I'd seen him fight before, but I had no idea he'd be this extraordinary. A feeling of pride grew inside me as I watched my friend give it his all, blasting and flying all around the arena. But his opponent didn't. Todoroki caved in mid-fight. I couldn't avoid joining Midoriya and yelling out for him to keep on fighting. Bakugo was having none of it too as he charged and launched his ultimate move onto Todoroki. It was enough to throw his opponent off the arena and guarantee his victory. I watched in awe as the boy stomped towards his fellow student and grabbed his unconscious body off the floor. I sighed into a facepalm, knowing exactly what was going to happen. Midnight wasted no time knocking Bakugo out and announcing his victory. There was no surprise in that. What surprised me most was watching Bakugo being treated like a feral beast as he rose into his rightful place as number one.
We were all standing on the field for the award ceremony. Everyone seemed happy that our class took over the podium but I couldn't take my eyes off of him, but this time I wasn't captivated. Saying I was furious seeing the treatment they provided my partner was an understatement. The media kept filming and photographing an enraged boy fighting against his restraints like an animal, but that wasn't Bakugo. He wasn't like that. Not always at least. He was smart and hard-working, he wasn't an animal! Something snapped in me when All Might took his muffle off and Bakugo started yelling at the number one hero. He didn't even try to improve his situation. I felt my eye twitch. I couldn't keep watching that idiot taint his reputation any further.
"Shut the fuck up, grenades for brains!" I yelled out filled with anger. Everyone froze and turned to me. Even Bakugo peeked down as I made my way towards him. "You're standing on a big ass platform with the number one on it. Whatever the fuck you consider a fair win or not doesn't matter now! You're gonna shut that dirty mouth of yours and accept the fucking medal or I swear to everything mighty I will beat you up, Katsuki."
Bakugo glared at me, his face still filled with rage as I slid the medal around his neck. But he soon recovered. The boy ignored my threats as he kept complaining in full volume, yelling about honor or whatever his idea of a noble victory was. This boy was pushing all the right buttons and fuelling my lousy mental state. As soon as I heard him yell out something about me running off to the imaginary boyfriend he thought I had, I snapped again. I slapped my hands against his cheeks as hard as I could bring myself to, as I grabbed his face to stop him from struggling to no avail. Anger boiled inside me from his stupid monologue, I couldn't take it anymore. I got on my toes and slammed my lips onto his and finally shutting that brat up. Activating my quirk I drained most of his energy until he was too tired to keep complaining. When I pulled away his resolve had died down and his glazed over eyes looked down at me.
"Shut up. Stop being a brat. And maybe smile a little?"
I patted his shoulder in what seemed to be a playful way but he knew the truth behind my fake smile. The look on his face had softened so I took that as a good sign and unshackled him. I gave him one last look so he'd behave and left the stage, allowing a dumbfounded All Might to continue his speech. I could feel the crowd gaping at me and whispering. I took this as an opportunity to make a grand exit and hide in the infirmary until it was time to leave.
Truth be told, I knew Bakugo just wanted to do good by me. I hated to think about what I made him go through the past couple of days, but I did give Bakugo quite the scare, twice already, and I knew he just wanted me to feel better. And he did. I just hoped he wasn't angry at what I did. I couldn't keep watching him being like that when I knew how amazing he really was. That's why I had to tire him out. Using my quirk. On his lips. To shut him up obviously. There was no other way. That's why I did it. On the lips.
He's gonna kill me.
I felt my cheeks heat up and shook my head before I could get into an overthinking spiral. I was mumbling the lyrics to some song to get him out of my head when the door slammed open. I didn't need to look to know who it was. I kept my feet up on the desk, smirking to myself, as I called out.
"What's up, Blasty? Feeling better?"
A black bag slammed down onto the desk in front of me. A very familiar black bag. My black bag filled with my vigilante costume and weapons and very incriminating evidence against me. I look up to see Aizawa's red glare burning into me.
"Where did you get this?" My voice cracked as I watch him get gradually more infuriated.
"Don't play me for a fool, Anahita! Stupidity doesn't suit you." He paced from side to side. "I was hoping you'd at least feign ignorance. I can't believe you've done this... AGAIN! Again, Anahita?! You nearly DIED, and you get back on the streets? Unbelievable." I watched him sit on one of the beds and bend down as if the weight of the world fell on his shoulders.
"Shouta... It's not like that! I was just scouting and getting information, there was no fighting involved!"
"BULLSHIT!" I jumped. I had never heard his voice this rough. "There were cameras in the ally, Ana. You were caught fighting two armed villains who had been following you from the station that stupid bag was in! I can't believe you were this stupid." I got up and tried reaching out to place a hand on his shoulder but he swatted it away. "Don't you dare. Don't you dare feel guilty! You had your chance, Anahita. Now you've made it clear you regret nothing!"
Aizawa got up and glared down at me. My chest was filled with dread. His face looked angry but his eyes told a different story. They were filled with pain, disappointment, loath... The last time I saw this look in his eyes I was lying bleeding in some ally I had destroyed. I could recall as clear as day the words that flowed out of his mouth that night.
I'm so sorry... I couldn't keep you safe...
"Shou! It's not like that! I know it was wrong and I'll never ever do it again. I learned my lesson that day."
"Why? Because you dragged Katsuki Bakugo into it?"
"W-What? That's... It's not-" I stuttered
"That's right... Every time you put yourself in the face of danger, you drag down the people you care about with you. First, it was me. Now, it's Bakugo. Who's next? Your grandmother? Shinso? Or maybe third time's the charm..." He trailed off and I couldn't face him any longer. I bowed my head down in shame as I got reprimanded. I knew he was right. I dragged Bakugo into one of my stupid plans and now he might go down with me.
That's when it hit me. Bakugo was the only one who knew what had happened. He knew about the locker, my bag, the fight... I refused to believe it, but the facts spoke for themselves. He wouldn't do that, he wouldn't sell me out like that... But we were the only ones who knew what happened and we were the only ones there. I couldn't believe it, but I had to.
Bakugo sold me out.
Something cold spread inside me. A familiar numbness settled inside me as I felt my body go cold. It felt like an imaginary door closed the moment I realized my only friend was no more. One of the only people I trusted and he'd betrayed me. The moment Aizawa got that bag, I had lost my only real friend.
I remained silent as Aizawa recited my punishment. Starting right that moment I'd be moving in with him and I wasn't allowed to leave his sight outside of school. That meant spending every waking minute with him from morning until dawn, missions included. That lifted my spirits a bit until he stated he had intentions of making every minute of my day into hell. And, the most surprising punishment of all, no more Bakugo. No more going out. No more bodyguard. No more getting others into trouble. From now on it'd be just me and Aizawa and whatever his idea of a hellish training was.
