I would like to rant about something. It's been awhile since I've done that and it's been kinda bubbling under the surface for a long time.

Again: you can headcanon whatever the fuck you want, this just my "takes me out of a story" thing.

There have been a couple posts that I've seen going around lambasting people for using other names for Eddie then Edward (Edwin, Edison, Edmond etc) when it's on his missing poster as Edward Munson.

Only there is a couple things wrong with that.

One: Not everyone goes through every frame of the show and are actual causal viewers! I know, shocking! (heavy sarcasm here, folks) I personally had seen the missing poster gifed and screenshotted a billion times and never caught that they had his first and last name until someone pointed it out.

Two: it lists Eddie's age at 17. So how well can trust it, really? I know I've seen several takes from production getting the age wrong, to Wayne making him younger so people care, to Kas theory, to even Eddie being one of the kids that went missing before Will and his age is listed as what it would have been in 1983 (which could go either supernatural or Wayne just used the old missing poster from then).

So until there is something ELSE in the show that shows his name AS Edward, you can call him whatever you want, because canon just tells us that his name is Eddie.

So why am I bringing this up?

Because the people going around shouting this bit of information tend to also people who will use one or the other or even both of the next headcanons in their meta/fanfics.

1- Eddie CAN'T swim. This one always takes me out of the story when I see it because we have TWO on screen events that show him swimming. The first is the one most people forget. When Jason and his friends chase Eddie out onto the lake and he falls in. If he couldn't swim, dude would have DIED. But he makes it to Skull Rock. The second time is jumping after Steve. Trust as someone who can't swim, there is no way he would go jumping in after Steve if he couldn't. He would go back to shore and let the kids know what was going on.

So I tend to back out of a fic when I see it, because if you're off about that aspect of his character, I'm not sure I want to read further because what else might they get wrong about him.

2- This one is a doozy for me because it really makes me mad. When they say Wayne is Eddie's mom's brother.

"While all the other dads were teaching their kids to fish or to play ball...my old man was teaching me how to hotwire. Now I swore to myself I wouldn't wind up like he did, but now I'm wanted for murder and soon grand theft auto so...uh, yeah really living up to that Munson name."

Right, I had to transcribe the whole phrase because IMDb only had the hotwiring part. Because it's that last part that is so important to my point. Now I don't know if there are other ways to interpret that line, but if Wayne's last name is Munson and Eddie talks about living up to the Munson name...wouldn't the logic follow that Eddie's dad (named Allen Munson in the Stranger Things: First Shadow play and that's how I'll refer to him from now on to make it easier to type) is also a Munson? So if Wayne, Allen, and Eddie all share the same name wouldn't that make Wayne and Allen brothers?

Now, I think I know where this logic that Wayne is related to Eddie's mom and not his dad, is because how could sweet, hardworking Wayne be related to criminal, most likely in jail Al? Because I don't know who needs to hear this: but even growing up poor in a family that isn't known for its honest living (not that I think all the Munsons are like Al, by the way) one can still chose not to follow in those footsteps. Hell, Wayne could have even straightened up FOR Eddie.

Hell we know more about Eddie's dad then we do his mom. The only thing we know is that she isn't around to take care of Eddie. Dead, in jail, or just doesn't give a damn, she's not in Eddie's life.

So yeah, it upsets me because to me it smacks a little classist. Good guy Wayne can't be related to criminal Al *clutches pearls!* He absolutely is.

As Gina says EJ has been "acting like an old version of himself" or maybe this is the "real EJ," EJ's reaction really stood out to me. He doesn't act offended or that he can't believe she just said that, his reaction is one of deep pain and sorrow, complete with nearly being in tears. He seems ashamed. He's clearly holding back tears and trying not to break down at this point. Gina's opinion of him really matters to EJ, so for her to compare his past and present self cuts deep. Don't get me wrong, she has every right to feel hurt and react to that hurt! I'm more so talking about EJ's reaction and follow-up to these specific lines. The very next thing we see him do is have a phone call with someone, asking if they could make it there sooner. I'm fairly certain he called up Miss Jenn. Evidence:

Given the fact that there's blue and yellow in the background, pretty sure Miss Jenn is the surprise guest during 3.06 ("Color Wars"). Also, I know for a fact that is EJ's shoulder in the second screenshot LOL he's the only one tall enough for that angle. I don't know for sure the reasons he may have called Miss Jenn, but I theorize that it's for reinforcements. Gina just called him out on his current behavior, and he wants to take the steps to correct that. The very fact that he's calling Miss Jenn shows improvement and a step in the right direction because he's actively asking for help. He's realizing he can't do this alone and he needs someone with experience to help him on this journey as director. I think the Portwell angst in 3.05, specifically the scene I gifed, takes it back to the 2.08 couch convo. The way Gina saw him then surprised EJ because he was still ashamed of his past actions-

Gina: I see someone who tries really hard to do the right thing. And fails a lot. But he keeps on trying.

EJ: That's what you think of me? (2.08)

I get the feeling EJ may have been thinking back on the above conversation he had with Gina during their 3.05 fight. He hates that Gina's perception of him has changed, and he desperately wants to make things right. Hence why he calls in reinforcements via Miss Jenn, a director they're familiar with and who has plenty of experience. I have no doubt in my mind that EJ will do his damn best to do right by Gina and the rest of the Wildcats. I'm also expecting a breakdown and breakthrough for him at some point. He's definitely on the verge of one.

I'm kinda used to the writers putting Nadja in situations and see what it sticks, but (un)holy shit its so obvious that they don't know what to do with her character. What we do in the shadows learn how to write women challenge.

I don't know if the Guide even appeared. My stream stopped a couple times and I have to refresh so maybe I missed her (if not see previous point because it also applies to her).

LOVED Nadja's kitty hair buns, love to see that at least the hair and costume department still cares about her.

The line about burning the school made me roll my eyes, not only because that story doesn't make sense with what we learned about her childhood, but also because I can FEEL when tv shows throw lines with the specific expectations of them being gifed, become memes, etc.

I know it's stupid to discuss about the ethics of Laszlo's experiments on the dick and balls show but in this episode I was all 😬😬😬 about it. Like, I don't give a shit if it was done with comedy purposes, animal experimentation is one of the subjects I will never find remotely funny or make jokes with, specially if we start thinking... How much consent Guillermo gave for Laszlo to straight up play with his DNA in this way? He has nothing to say about it except for a confused frown or looking panicky at the sight of the creatures?? More important, if Nandor did this exact same thing the past season and created the hybrids with a Djinn wish or whatever, how would the fandom have reacted??? (spoiler: waaay more angered than when everybody's fave Laszlo does it).

The work of puppetry and digital effects was good as always, nothing bad to say about the team behind the cameras that puts all their hard work and craft on this, sadly, mid storyline.

Despite how little I care about mAd ScIenTiSt Lazslo plot, the moment when Guillermo believes he won't help him anymore was truly heartbreaking just by looking at his face. You can see he really has all his hopes in Laszlo finding a 'cure'.

I wish the whole thing about Guillermo being incapable of killing the hybrids hit me harder (as if we didn't saw him luring innocent teenagers so they can get killed in the literal pilot).

Sorry but that lady character didn't work for me and the "Helen the Magic Johnson" joke was unfunny and kinda old :/ i wonder if half of the wwdits fandom even got the reference (also lmao shameless product placement, you can tell they needed the money to pay for the cgi used on the creatures).

Colin was like his season 1 self. I bet the wwdits reddit ate up that shit.

See also: Laszlo calling Guillermo 'Gizmo' again. Hated it.

Colin becoming the stereotypical 'cool' white liberal teacher was hilarious specially when he said the cliché "history is written by the oppressors" line because that's where the parody becomes too obvious. This is the guy whose dna results on s1 were "100% white" after all. AND YET some people here are still celebrating and repeating it as this 'so true bestie 😔✊' moment without realizing the show's laughing at you, not with you. But hey, this is the we don't get satire even if it bites on our ass site. Imagine fans celebrating when Kendall Succession shouted "fuck the patriarchy!" in front of the paparazzi for being a #feminist. That's how wooosh the moment went over some of y'alls heads.

Nandor and Colin at the museum felt a little tackled on, but at least Nandor annoyance at his personal items being displayed was fun.

And Colin being friendly (dare I say…sweet?) with him at the end again gave me a happy smile. I'll never guessed this season was all about the Colin and Nandor (Condor??) era but I'm all for it.

Biggest Mild laugh of the night: Nandor mannequin having male and female lovers on the display, the dude is wearing Calvin Kleins!

I can't say much about Guillermo leaving the hybrids at the senior home because it's a overused ending for wwdits at this point. Seriously, when this show doesn't know how to end an episode they always do the same shit: Leave the characters that are a problem in a different place. It happened with: Topher at the zombie sweatshop, Jim the vampire as the volleyball coach in Tucson, familiar Benji in a different city/state (forgot where), The Baron and the Sire in the countryside, Derek working at Sean's MLM, Freddie!Marwa in the Uk. They have done this ending 👏🏼lots 👏🏼 of 👏🏼 times👏🏼already!!

Having a wank?! The setup and payoff for this joke really worked.

Next episode seems interesting.

Day 9: Nationals Moment

There have been so many wonderful moments from their nationals, to the unbridled joy of their junior title- embracing in that hug at the end like the happiest little kiddos in the world, to the sheer disappointment of missing Olympic qualification in 2006- devastating at the time but it became a defining moment in their careers, setting them on a course to become the multiple time over champions that they would. Their first senior win, returning after surgery (Scott saying ‘I’m so proud of you’ on repeat), the child-like excitement in 2017- their comeback year and being so genuinely ecstatic about regaining their title.

But for this post I’m going to talk about their last nationals, specifically the very end moments of their final free dance.

This moment has been gifed several times over and I’m sure many of us have cried several times over it. Firstly, the way he embraces her as he gets her out of their end pose. Literally cradling her like a baby, resting her on his shoulder and holding her so so close, cradling her head, seemingly crying into her shoulder for a brief moment- desperate to regain air in his lungs which for some reason he finds most abundant in the crook of her neck. Just this overwhelming sense of love and protection but then of course bc they’re adults this feeling that they just want their bodies to be one, this needing to love each other with every fibre of their beings in that moment of their lives that they’ll never forget- they could tell in the moment; they weren’t naive to the magnitude of it, they wanted to feel every emotion radiating out of themselves and share that together. I also just have to say what a good fucking job to both the camera operator and the editor (person calling the angles live) because while I hate they cut away afterwards to the audience so we missed the fact that he was actually patting her back while in this embrace (🥺😫) prior to that the way it zooms out to reveal the expanse of the elated crowd standing as if they’ve been shot with a bolt of lightning, flowers and gifts diving onto the ice, retrievers already out there for the expected tsunami of gifts to pick up, it’s a great shot that captures a great moment.

Next the angle from the back of her still being cradled in that hug. Her beautiful, sparkling eyes listening to those special words he whispers just for her- there’s no chance anyone but her will ever know what he said (frankly it was dumb of them to try and ask) but whatever it was it made her eyes light up like this. The way she clings on so delicately- she does not like to be seen as delicate but in this it’s the sense that she is in the safest, happiest place she could possible be and doesn’t have to worry about being strong or brave bc he is holding her up so her she can just take a moment to be small and held and seconds later can bow to the crowd chanting her name for the athletic feat they just accomplished. You can also see so briefly that I think she gives a slight nod, indicating he must have told her something warranting/initiating an affirmative response from her. It’s slight and it could also be him patting her back at that moment causing her to shake slightly, but either way she is hearing and accepting every syllable of those words and putting it safe in her heart.

As they take all their bows, as we’ve already established it is he that determines how they go about this, he ‘instructs’ her to circle round and thank all of the crowd once more. This has such a ‘finality’ to it. The last time they competed for their country in their country. They are so incredibly patriotic; they love their country, it’s people, it’s values, this final nationals would’ve been such a rollercoaster of emotions for them-in a sense saying goodbye to their country as (some of) it’s most adored representatives. Canada’s sweethearts stepping off home competitive ice for the final time.

Then as part of this, beautiful T, waving with one hand, the other on her heart, saying thank you.. again they are the most humble, gracious, incredible people, saying thank you to a nation for the last 20 years of their lives, some not knowing who they were for all of those, but TS feeling that their whole country truly was with them- they don’t lie when they say how proud they are to be Canadian and the enormous amount of gratitude that they have for everyone who supported them- that so honestly highlighted in a moment like this: the genuine, heartfelt gratitude.

The moment I’d like to give the most spotlight to in this post though is this one here:

After they have turned to the back to bow, turning looking at each other, almost a sense of immediate realisation, then T going to him, almost falling into him and he immediately holding her, almost rocking her on his shoulder as he whispers to her again.

As I do sometimes, I totally understand what is actually going on in these moments, but I like to interpret them a bit differently just because.. idk I like to experience the wide range of emotions they would be feeling and bc they have this incredibly unique and beautiful relationship it’s fun to continue to interpret their interactions as artists even after they have stopped dancing, so maybe not describing exactly what they are actually feeling, but may be feeling.

The way he embraces her.. the look his eyes as he does so, it’s like in that moment the realisation hits- this is the last time (at home). In his eyes there is fear, sadness, a moment to feel the gravity of the moment and that all this is coming to an end, an almost ‘life flashing before his eyes’ moment- holding her there, her heart pressed against his as it had been hundreds of thousands of times before, this lifetime spent together and feeling more this moment will be one of many, but as they are at the pinnacle of both their craft and their understanding of their partnership, perhaps it’s an even more pivotal one then many that had come before. And as it seems it is she that goes to him, he embraces her in a way I interpret as even though he is feeling all these things, the tiniest sense of fear in his eyes, he holds her to him as if saying ‘I know you’re scared, but I promise everything will be ok and I’ll protect you’.. being brave for her, shielding her from any harm. By T’s expression from the other side of this it was not fear she was feeling- she is smiling and overwhelmed with emotions just like him- and this is not to say Scott is feeling fear or sadness in this moment either, it’s just the brief look in his eyes as he goes to hold her- as is the sense most of the time when she is in his arms is this utmost protection of her, even if he is feeling scared or sad and needs her more than anything for himself to feel safe, the visual in this moment of tiny little T feeling so safe to go to him in a moment of overwhelming emotion and him no matter what he’s feeling to hold her like he’ll never let anything harm her.. together alone on this big sheet of ice- feeling the support of the nation showering praise and adulation onto their champions- the only thing TS have to cling onto physically in that moment to understand and feel present in that moment is each other- so that’s what they do.. ahh 🥺🥹

Hey anon! I really love the adults too. They are my absolute favorite characters! I love this odd little friendship they have all formed. I definitely agree with you that there isn't nearly enough fic about the adults or their friendship.

I have tried my hand at writing many years ago but I am not very good at it. So I stick with meta and posting thoughts. I'd like to get back into gifing though. I miss doing that. Did a lot of that when I watched major crimes. What about you anon? Have you thought about writing for the adults?

I think my second favorite dynamic on the show is between Joyce and Murray. They are strange besties/sibling like vibe, but seem to work really well because of the way that their minds work. Murray didn't really seem to like anyone at first but seems to have bonded really well with Joyce. She's very determined and doesn't let anyone push her around. So I really love when she tells him off when they first meet. He just immediately is like ok you're in charge.
