eridan is a character who i do Not fucking like but is also extremely interesting/entertaining to me. so yeah rambles under the cut

heres my “notes” section in his doc

Eridan Pyrope, instead of being a military history obsessed douche, is a law history obsessed douche. It’s just slightly warping his thing so he’s got a sliiiightly different lense to be a dick about. On the “i’m mean to Eridan” note: what the fuck is up with that trolltag? I came up with it, but it’s still kinda stupid. “Garnishment” refers to a very specific law thing (it’s like an auspitice for owed money I think? Phrasing it for the homestucks) that isn’t particularly applicable to what Eridan Pyrope does (which is be a shithead lawyerboy) and “corrupt” is just outwardly stating he’s a dick with an interestingly warped view of justice. His quirk is me turning v and w upside down—look at that, it’s an n and a m. This leads to a couple weird cases of pronunciation, but I don’t really care enough about this guy to expand on that. “Innsanne” kinda looks weird and you might pronounce it with a short a. Bam, done, I don’t have to talk about this guy anymore. His situation with Feferi is similar to how it is in canon, but with the added danger of Flarping—they’re moirails, he wants to be matesprits, she doesn’t really want to be either and just wants to stop having to deal with all his melodramatic Eridan bullshit. Rightfully so. 

i could talk at length about how i frequently go “eridan sucks and i dont like him” in this thing, but nevertheless write about himfor 200 straight words. i literally say “I don’t have to talk about this guy anymore” and then…talk about him more . Right after explaining a bit of his quirk i explicitly stated i didnt want to talk about. my thing about eridan is that, yeah, i dont like him (the murder, the “nice guy” thing, the genocide-y tendencies) but hes also VERY interesting to me. hes just so shitty in a way thag entertains me. obligatory “he was raised on Planet Murder” also. tldr Eridan is so shitty and interesting about how shitty he is

a thing i didnt touch on in the note is his classpect, newly pyroped, is prince of mind—destroyer of logic, i guess. as a prince, he embodies the aspect of heart which is pretty literal in his (if failed) romantic endeavors and emotion-driven decisioms (he IS 13 tho tbf) AND hes driven to irrationality Very Very Notably in bloodswitch murderstuck

since every fucking plotline i think of has to be stupidly circular and complicated (i didnt even touch on bloodswitch hivebent, which is even MORE convoluted but doesnt include eridan in a large way) bloodswitch murderstuck is a chain of events: feferi serket goes missing on the meteor, eridan gets anxious and starts pointing fingers, goes grimdark (like in canon) and starts murdering (rip vriska. for like 10 minutes) and knocks equius vantas unconscious, also revealing his blood color. then eridan pyrope gets vengefully murdered by a clown catgirl right as feferi returns from her meteor exploration trip . it gets worse from there probably but thats the main thing

i reference him having a v warped sense of justice in my notes—specifically calling him “corrupt.” (hes 13 jesus fuck me from. last night. this was an exaggeration tho) i think the guy uses law and justice to further his own agenda, probably in a similar way to the “made for each other” thing in feferis case, and also as a way to exert control in a kinda mind-y way, citing logic in more emotion-based decisions he makes to justify (hehehehe) them

his ancestor (they are unnamed rn :[) was murdered by nepetas, because i heart funky parallels forever and ever and also because dualscar got murdered by ghb in canon so thats pretty easy. he was probably some sort of personal lawyer of cerulean condesce? unsure. point is this funky little lawyerboy is getting so many words out of my idiot head

Might copy and paste the text here later from my Twitter thread where I expressed why I enjoyed it, but I recently read My Little Poplar and ended up liking Bai Xinyu and Yu Fengcheng quite a bit!

Yu Fengcheng’s eventual regret was honestly written really well, and the relationship between the two leads has good chemistry. 👌

Even better is that it features Jian Suiying, who I also have gotten weirdly attached to???

Like objectively the book Jian Suiying comes from, In Love With an Idiot, has its flaws. Or rather, it employs tropes that really aren’t for everyone, which includes the main couple fighting constantly (so it’s basically fighting and then fucking and then fighting and then fucking and you get the idea), and it gets kind of overdramatic at times, as some very angsty-type stories can be—whether they’re from China (known as “dog blood” stories) or not.

I even found it a little silly that so many were so obsessed with Jian Suiying, and yet…

Here I am now, sliiiightly obsessed with him. 🤡😂

It’s just that! As I mentioned on my Twitter, he’s so unique for a shou/bottom/uke character!! Before he met Li Yu, he was always the top, and he’s sexually confident and pretty intelligent and ruthless and…well, temperamental. He does admittedly have a charm to him that works and I find it pretty amazing the author managed to predict that, since so many characters in her novels adore him BDMGIHSKD.

Even his red flags give him charm, because while he is problematic, the red flags make him an intriguing character. The author does a pretty good job at balancing the different aspects of him that make him technically infuriating and yet also compelling.

His charm is further boosted by the fact there’s actually a clip of one of his VAs just trying to cheer you up if you’re sad?? Like hello??? 🥺

It is no longer a surprise to me that Li Yu ended up so obsessed with Jian Suiying. 😆

Also I’ll note now the last image is actually by the My Little Poplar manhua artist while the others are from the manhua adaptation of Jian Suiying’s own novel! I like how the manhua artist draws him quite a bit since it feels so him. I’ve seen fan art and they sometimes feature him smaller and thus not domineering enough, even though they usually show him with the same hairstyle—which makes for a fun tangent on its own since danmei designs can be a bit “basic,” so when one specific design becomes a recognizable look for a character, I find it pretty cool.

In fact, one of my favourite details in My Little Poplar was watching Yu Fengcheng be very frustrated with how much Bai Xinyu looked up to Jian Suiying. 🤭

Also just seeing him show up always made me go “yay!” because it’s so fun getting to see him again, especially as part of his story aligns with My Little Poplar (as in the plots of both novels happen somewhat concurrently).

Similarly, the manhua adaptation, My Beloved Fool, has a really nice art style and I really like that the artist always lets Jian Suiying shine by really dressing him up. He and Shi Qi from Trap a Vicious Dog (another series I want to ramble about on why I’m enjoying it so far) are two manhua protagonists I know of who are like…confident smart corporate bosses that get stylish fits almost every manhua chapter, which is a nice detail ahaha.

My Beloved Fool has recently hit the heavy angst section of the novel so it’ll be depressing to follow for a while since you’ll just watch Li Yu fall apart as Jian Suiying suffers absolute hell. 😔

Someone even uploaded the first season of the vomic version of the manhua on YouTube. 👀

Similarly, I’m really excited for the My Little Poplar manhua to get to all the good bits of the story there, since Bai Xinyu develops a lot as a character and I find Yu Fengcheng’s regret especially well done. But evidently it’ll take quite some time to get there; first we have to get past the military bullying alfndkfjjss.

Anyway the actual reason I started typing this out before I spiralled into another huge ramble asjakfl is that I found In Love With an Idiot and My Little Poplar audio dramas on YouTube!!

I’d heard some In Love With an Idiot audio clips from something that some fans had shared to YouTube before, but it sounds like those clips were from a completely different audio drama than the one I landed on. I’m especially excited about the My Little Poplar one. Even if it’s not extremely high quality (I think Bing Xing Xia Deng aka Inferior by Nature aka The Selfish Gene has admittedly spoiled me because it was so high quality 😆), it’s still fun hearing these characters come to life aurally.

Even more so since iirc I saw a Twitter post saying the My Little Poplar and In Love With an Idiot got taken down officially, so they may only be accessible via online reuploads right now. I can’t find the post to confirm, but if true, I’m glad someone preserved them. 🙏

Update: I did find the other version’s VAs of the In Love With an Idiot audio drama! Except it’s maybe a…sequel? Where a Li Yu of the past transmigrates 5 years into the future when Li Yu and Jian Suiying are a couple?? It’s on MaoEr FM…and it’s for free. 👁️

In fact, I could totally ramble about the Bing Xing Xia Deng audio drama—which I already have for a friend, so I can just copy and paste that long-ass (slightly more incoherent because it’s a lot of fangirling) wall of text here haha. I am currently very obsessed with that series too because it really is high quality and I like how it evolved the novel it’s adapting, but my friend is the expert on it so I feel a bit more shy about sharing my thoughts sometimes.

Welp that went on quite a number of tangents but yeah. I’ve enjoyed these novels and I’m very happy they got audio dramas and that they are still out there to be enjoyed after everything. 🥺💕

OH and final note but…the fun fact about the 188男团 aka 188 Group, which is the overall series Jian Suiying and Bai Xinyu belong to (so-called because it’s 10 novels that share a universe and all feature (scum) gongs of 188 cm) got sort of made into an “actual” 男团, aka a boy band/group! I found the couple (?) songs they released and some fan songs and it’s nice seeing them all “singing” together alfjskfjs.

Oh ! I don't know how much this will interest you, but sure ? So trans Pete, and my tags on this post, refers to a fic I wrote about Pete Phongsakorn Saengtham - a.k.a Pete, a character from the show Kinnporsche.

(I've been somewhat obsessed with him and the way his role in the story bounces from "loyal soldier" to "best friend in a college romcom" to "goon number 3" to "silly guy" to "thriller protagonist" to "romantic lead" to "highlighter of themes and motives", wildly and not necessarily in that order.)

He ins't trans in the show, but I think his character is fun to examine through the lense of transidentity so I... actually didn't examine shit, but I did write a fic where he is a trans man. It's simply the re-writing of a scene that happens in the show, where Pete is captured and tortured by Vegas, our for now main antagonist, and his future love interest. Though the specifics change, the basis stay the same : Vegas's been hurting Pete for a while now, and though Pete isn't exactly chipper he's not fully breaking down either, so Vegas switches tactics until he finds something that could work. At which point Vegas's dad barges into the torture basement, berates his son for failing to follow orders and hits him, eliciting this interesting facial response from Pete. He then orders Vegas to clean up his mess (an expression that here means shoot Pete dead) and leave. Pete, seeing the end of the line... kinda laughs.

In my fic however, Pete doesn't just laugh - he speaks. The line is "by the way, interesting bruise you got on your face", referencing the way Vegas tried to taunt him earlier *and* the beating Pete just witnessed. And here is where we finally get to the point, because show!Pete would absolutely, 100%, not fucking say that.

Pete is a compassionate guy. Of course he can and will turn it off for work - he's a professional - but he is good at putting himself in other people's shoes. He is also not cruel (though I'm sure he could be if work demanded it) and we never see him pour salt on a wound even when he would have ample cause to do so. Crucially, Pete was also abused by his father, and this commonality is something he always uses to connect and sympathize with Vegas. But Pete is also cis. Naturally, you could write trans!Pete exactly like he is in the show. But when I was toying with the idea of Pete as a trans man, imagining him growing and rising up in a violent, hyper-masculine world, I thought "this guy's position was even worse than his show counterpart, he must at the very least have brushed off more insults, the pills he's had to swallow must have been just sliiiightly more bitter". So my Pete is a bit meaner, a bit less patient, a bit more judgemental (not that show!Pete isn't judgemental, lol. king of eye-rolls), and a bit more ready to use a weakness when he smells it. But even with all this, I still think my Pete wouldn't normally go there. Except he's had - to put it mildly - a shit day, and he wants to get it over with, so he does something out of character. He pours salt on the wound. And boy have I struggled with this single fucking line ! It wasn't in my first draft, and after that I kept adding it and putting it back in and removing it and putting it back in and just generally giving myself a full headache over it. Was it too out of character or just enough ? Well, I still don't know. I put it back at the last minute, for multiple reasons - not all pertinent on a writing level (for example, seeing a bit too many "sweet angel" characterization of the guy might have tipped the balance a bit. so did my wife saying she'd personally keep the line). I'm happy with that decision. At the same time, if I were to write a follow-up to this fic (which I am actually doing but I'm so fucking slow it will probably never see the light of day, moving on) I would probably scrap the line, because I'm pretty sure this sentence would destroy the chances of a relationship between them far more than any night of torture ever could. So, good for a short fic, not for a long one (or at least not one where they fall in love). Still : in the end, going ooc was the point, even if i'm not entirely sure about the results.

we're starting off in Cozumel, beautiful island just opposite Playa del Carmen, very popular with cruises... which means Yeah, there's a whole bunch of tourist traps, BUT there's enough ship crew traffic that it can be a totally different experience if you know where to go :)

(this whole platter was like $5). Wanna go to the beach? Beaches are gorgeous, we can even go snorkeling and stuff. Food? All kinds, but i truly hope you like tacos and seafood. Margaritas?

These guys just reopened! They have a pool and access to the sea too, they cater mostly to crew members and the vibe is always so chill and i miss them so much :') No Name Bar my beloved <3

BUT don't think it's all gonna be lounging by the pool, i promised an adventure and i will deliver! What's cooler than a pool and a beach? a CENOTE

yep that's a natural underground pool in the middle of the jungle! To get there, we're getting the ferry from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen and then getting on a bus to the Tulum-Chichén Itzá area, into the Yucatán peninsula. This is the adventure part, because i don't wanna book a tour, i wanna explore the Ik Kil Natural Park (where this cenote is) and stay overnight nearby, probably in Valladolid, and then head to Chichén Itzá for a proper look

i mean the archaeological complex is AMAZING and i've only seen a small part of it and i'm also sliiiightly obsessed with Mayan cosmology so i might infodump a bit about that. And I'd like to backpack around the peninsula with no pressure and no rush, and then on the way back we could visit my friend M. in Holbox and maybe go for a swim with whale sharks? what do you think?

thats when he asks you where you’re from specifically, and he wants to hear ALL the details. how the restaurants are, how the people are, how the shops are, everything. he wants to know. he’s genuinely interested too, and you can tell.

he asks about your family and how they think it’s cool you’re studying in america and “living the dream”

eventually you start giving him little lessons of your native language

and because normally, people not from america speak multiple languages, maybe even other languages you speak.

then you start teaching him little phrases. “can you...” “will you...”

and of course he got the cute foreign girl to fall for him because why wouldnt he?

When Chandra saw her chiropractor a couple weeks ago, she noted some soreness in both illiospoas. Cue slight panic (not the psoas!!! 😱), but the somewhat good news about it being both of them, rather than just one, is that it’s unlikely an injury. 

We saw her again today since she wanted to re-check that sooner, and the left one is a lot better. The right one still a bit tender though and Chandra didn’t like having her right leg manipulated. I mentioned that when we were doing our exercises for the Long Backed Dogs class, Chandra seemed to be off-weighting on her left leg. Not limping, but standing sliiiightly off it and it was harder to lift her right leg when placing her for the exercises. Weird, if the right one supposedly hurts. The doctor poked around a little more and found a big ol’ trigger point on the left side of Chandra’s butt. Spent some time working on, got the trigger to release, and whoosh. Right leg much better.

So now we’ll see how Chandra is feeling at our next visit in a couple more weeks and if the psoas is still tender or getting better. It’s possible that trigger point was the problem, especially since the left psoas was better today but the right one wasn’t (but at least it wasn’t worse either).

So it pays to be obsessive about your dog and note every little thing! 😬 If I hadn’t noticed the off-weighting we might have kept our focus on the right psoas and went down a different path with it. Which we still might if it’s still a problem in a couple weeks, but we’ll see!

Other good news is that the rest of Chandra felt great during her adjustments today, including her shoulders and back!! Seems we’re on the right track with her exercises, building muscle in her back and core, and finding that silly trigger point.

#it's not unusual for a problem to be on the opposite side of the symptom #but this one wasn't obvious until i mentioned the off-weighting and she did more digging #Chandra

This colour scheme I have going right now, a pale blue/cyan behind deep red and a grey (which is actually a desaturated yellow) was inspired by a bunch of different things. I'm completely obsessed with it.

A flight case in a uni store room next to my studio which has a door that locks behind you if you let it go, and the Mean Street EP by Toktok.

All my art programs treat the same hex codes sliiiightly differently. Quite interesting to see. Who knows, I might only end up using this colourscheme on SUNFLOWERS but it's given me a good thing to think about.

Anything I can grab repeatedly if that makes sense hahaha.  It’s less about the food and more about the enjoyable process of snacking?  I have a soft spot for nachos or chips and salsa, popcorn, celery with peanut butter, etc.

2. What time of day do you usually write?

Literal insane hours in the dead of night usually hahaha.  Occasionally I get a little random inspiration going in the morning or general daytime, but the best writes usually happen after dark.

3. Where do you write?

I prefer to have a desk and chair since I tend to get wrapped up in what I’m doing and not move or stretch enough, but I can make do with less than ideal circumstances in a pinch.

4. How often do you write a new fic?

Way too often--I have pretty much negative self-control when it comes to starting on new ideas that excite me, so things tend to sit around forever til I get time to prioritize them and then keep starting other new things that sit around forever.  I haven’t given up on too many stories in my lifetime, though--I can be counted on to follow through in my own sweet time.

5. Do you listen to music while you write?

Sometimes--if I’m in a State(TM) I kinda need it dead silent, or need unobtrusive music to drown out any ambient noise.  Otherwise I have a playlist of writing music, or I just find one song I’m really feeling and put it on repeat forever.

6. Paper or laptop?

Laptop.  I’m a bit of a hoarder esp when it comes to things I’ve made, and I move around all the time in life, so keeping a lot of paper is impractical.

7. Do you have a special pre-writing ritual?

Make coffee, open a fuckton of word docs, sometimes make food and/or pour a nice alcoholic beverage.

8. What do you do to get into the writing?

Look through the word documents I’ve opened and see if any of them is Speaking To Me Right Now, look through old prompts and brainstorm, just start writing something new, whatever helps the words flow.

9. What do you always have near the place you write?

Generally coffee?  Otherwise nothing special.

10. Do you have a reward system for word counts?

Nope--I barely pay attention to them unless I have to for some reason.

11. Is there anything else about your writing process your readers don’t know?

Hmmm well this might be obvious but I don’t think I’ve talked about it before--I’m insanely picky about my word/phrasing choices.  Like if I don’t feel I’ve chosen the exact word I want, or the phrasing feels sliiiightly wrong for the character, i will Obsess about it until I’ve figured out exactly what I want.  Or, more often, what I wanted to say will present itself to me at a really inopportune time like 5 in the morning or when I’m busy and it will Haunt me until I have the time to go and change it.

Overall Thoughts: Well, this is a very different list than it's been for the past five years or so. The fandom switch aside, I didn't post any full stories until September, just a handful of tumblr ficlets. I also posted two things chapter-by-chapter, one as a WiP, which--wow, reminder that I NEVER WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN, it's far too stressful! The bulk of the words are all in the same verse, and I'm not even counting the words that I wrote and haven't posted yet, jeez. This stupid universe. I simultaneously hate and love it. Writing an epic WiP in a new fandom was really rough. I'm ultimately thrilled with the finished product--waiting until it was all finished made me redraft over and over again until things fit together the way I wanted. It left me space to go back and seed things that I wanted to develop as I went...I really think the finished product is way better than it would have been if I'd rushed and posted it before it was done. That all being said, gosh, it was lonely. It was so, so lonely, when writing epics usually involves a lot of bouncing ideas off of people and letting them read and suggest as I draft and really digging into the process, etc. There were a couple of people who popped in and out, but life and other interests got in the way (which makes sense considering this went on for NINE MONTHS), and, man, I missed being able to text and IM people will story ideas at all hours and feel confident that they'd be interested in what I had to say. (For all the texting I do, I am actually super shy about it? I'm super nervous about initiating unless I'm 100% positive I won't be bothering the other person, which limits my texting confidence to like, my back-up bunnies and Erica.) Anyway, that's all to say that this year was a very different experience, fandom writing-wise, but I think I learned a lot in the process so...hooray?

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? This year I think my main goal was "FINISH PART ONE OF THE GHOSTHUNTERS" without a specific word count attached, so I succeeded in that part? Knowing me, I probably wanted to crack 300k at least, and while I'm sure I WROTE over 300k this year, what I actually published is about on par with the last couple years, so. NUMBER wise, I think I imagined I'd have a greater output vis-a-vis completed stories, but a lot of the shit I wrote was on the longer side, so. What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Hm. Well, there's a lot more porn in the ghosthunters than is in most of the fic I've written, traditionally, but nothing really shocking. Most of it was ghosthunters words, so...yeah. I guess the Angel/Raven was sliiiightly a surprise because I figured if I had to step in and write some SM pinch-hits it would be all Charles/Erik stuff, but I really liked that story and I have shipped that pairing for many years so....not super a surprise. What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? I loved a lot of the stories I wrote this year, because I'm super obsessed with myself. [[< -- I think I've kept that sentence in for the past few years because it remains true]] I really love most of the ghosthunters shit, but if I had to pick a favorite....idk, I'm torn between i saw the whole story unwind because it's so epic and took so long and I put so much into it and the constellations aligned, because it came so easily and I'm a total sap and it's a totally sappy story. Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Sitting on the ghosthunters until the first part was complete was new. Like I said above, that kind of patience and planning was difficult, but I think the end product was much better for it. So what I learned is probably "sit on a story for a couple days after you finish." I've always tried to employ at least cursory beta readers and done read-throughs after finishing, but the slower approach does actually lead to a better product. IMAGINE THAT. My best story of this year: Best? Hm. It's hard to compare i saw the whole story unwind to anything else, given it's length and the breadth of subjects it covers, so I'd say probably that or but i won't go far away, which deals with a lot of intricate emotions and explanations. My most popular story of this year: Okay, see, I wrote two chaptered stories this year and chaptered stories totally throw off your stats. Hit counts, kudos count, comment count...all of that is inflated by repeatedly pushing those fics to the top of the tags and having people come back for each chapter and all of that. Still, I'm p sure that i saw the whole story unwind was the most popular story? And I think a lot of that can be attributed to the above facts and also to the fact that it's the oldest and the longest and the first in the series, but...I'm gonna go with it anyway. Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I don't know that any of them are! Again, probably because most of them are in the same series, but...yeah, I'm pretty happy with the response to everything. I remember thinking at the time that there was something weird going on with the hit count for but i won't go far away because the hits-to-kudos ratio was WAY off. There were way too many hits accumulating in the first couple days it was up, like, way more than usual, even though kudos were accumulating at the correct rate? It was strange. And I did feel like that one got slightly less attention than some of the others, but that might be a mind trick based on that weirdly inflated hit count. Most fun story to write: Hm, I got a kick out of doing the twitter ficlet, and I wrote the constellations aligned in basically one sitting, so. Story with the single sexiest moment: This is one of the few years I have a lot to choose from. I think John's slow, intoxicated seduction in the constellations aligned probably wins that award. Definitely sexier than the sweet and kind of goofy sex scene in i saw the whole story unwind or the contemplative one in but i won't go far away. Story with the single sweetest moment: Hmmmmmmmm. "Sweet" is kind of my whole deal, and I like to think there's a lot of sweetness in my stories overall. I'm going to choose i saw the whole story unwind for this one and pin the sweetest moment in question as either Alex and John driving up to Peekskill or the two of them talking after Alex's nightmare. Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Nothing really. Nothing cracky for me this year. Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I mean, this whole series has been a lesson in picking apart these characters and seeing how they tick. So. Hardest story to write: i saw the whole story unwind, for sure. Jesus, it took me forever to finish and I was entirely despairing during parts of it. Biggest Disappointment: Just that I didn't finish more, I think. Biggest Surprise: People actually getting so into the ghosthunters. I honestly didn't expect anyone to read any of these stories and to have a tiny group of people who seem to eagerly await each new part...it really warms my heart and makes me so happy. I can't overstate who wonderfully surprising that has been. Most Unintentionally Telling Story: I think there are a lot of places where I project pretty hard on John, or maybe it's that I use a lot of my own experiences to color some of his? We don't actually have much in common besides being gay and being depressed, and I'm older and (I hope) wiser, but, you know, mental illness is a deep well to mine for content. I'd also say I mine a lot of my Jersey shit for Herc and that Molly is the closest thing this series has to a Mary Sue. I'm not into science or math, but I am a cheerfully sarcastic fat brunette lesbian who spends a lot of time whining "why don't girls like me?" and as Opinions about pizza. Plans for the next year: I'm gonna say 300k published words next year. I'd like to post at least the next three ghosthunters anchor stories, maybe venture outside ghosthunters for Hamilton related shit? Pick up my MG novel again. Set a writing schedule and try to stick to it. Leave more comments. Try to put some more good in the world, because it's gonna be a shitty, shitty year.

Allura! Ok prepare for an essay about my wife;

What they smell like: Mostly like shampoo. So much hair??? Smells a little like Kenzo’s Flower perfume.

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): Side sleeper, no set schedule. She sleeps in bouts of 3-4.5 hours whenever feels like it/has the time, but is easily anxious and sometimes! Just cannot.

What music they enjoy: ??? I feel like most of the time, she just likes white noise bc that doesn’t interfere with her thought process. Otherwise, she doesn’t like any specific genre or band, just random songs that she finds catchy.

How much time they spend getting ready every morning: about 10-15 on a regular day. Hair is brushed and tied up night before so she can just undo it and look amazing in 2 seconds, outfits coordinated last night (unless she’s coording with someone) so maybe 3-5 minutes changing clothes and picking accessories, makeup is maybe 7 minutes for moisturizer, bb, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, lip tint. 30 minutes if she showers in the morning instead of at night.

Their favorite thing to collect: Photos of her friends and family. She wishes she had more photos of her parents and friends from Altea, but covering her bedroom walls in photos of the new people in her life make up for it, a little. (the first thing the team gets her when they go to earth is a polaroid camera, you know, the hipster kine.)

Left or right-handed: Right, but sliiiightly ambidexterous.

Religion (if any): Probably whatever was the dominant religion on Altea, though she’s probably out of touch with it now.

Favorite sport: Wife throwing ilu Shiro An Altean version of basketball but in zero-G with jetpacks. She’s also gotten into surfing thanks to Hunk and Lance.

Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): Sightseeing, esp to see natural wonders of the planet and historical landmarks. She likes seeing how other planets have changed over the 10k years she’s been out. Taking part in the culture and getting to know the people is also handy since she’s a diplomat.

Favorite kind of weather: Since rain on Altea was, like, glass and on fire, she preferred clear weather. Once they get to Earth, she still prefers sun bc she likes outdoor activities and humidity makes her hair annoyingly high-maintenance, but she enjoys storms that are so bad the day is cancelled and everyone hangs out and they cook on a gas burner and play card games by lamplight. But, everyone enjoys those days.

A weird/obscure fear they have: mushrooms in places mushrooms shouldn’t be.

The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: Carnival games: any strength-based games 100% she’s got. But she’s also fairly good at knocking shit down with balls.

What they smell like: b4 covering himself in three entire cans of axe like the doucheass he is? Laundry soap and dryer sheets. Very slightly of skin/haircare products, if you’re face-to-face with him. Overall, very nice b4 the axe. 

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): A morning person, generally sleeps before 11 and gets up at 5 or 6 feeling great. Back sleeper, is perfectly still in his sleep and sleeps like a fuckin’ rock.

What music they enjoy: He loves music! He has a lot of acoustic covers, some of which he did, and a couple of songs he wrote himself. His music library is mostly pop, stuff that’s good to sing along to, the occasional rock or rap song…and a ton of anime OPS and J-pop from the weeb phase he never QUITE outgrew and K-pop that he knows the dances to by heart. He’s only a little ashamed that he can sing all the way through Snow Halation and Go!!! but knows like 7 words in Japanese.

How much time they spend getting ready every morning: It’s bad. Depends on if he has a uniform or is stuck in space with one set of clothes. Shower is necessary, 10-15 minutes. Skincare is 10 minutes to apply, 10 minutes to sink in while he wanders around his room naked, drying off and picking out an outfit. 5 more minutes to remove and then do toner and moisturizer. Changing is like a minute, but then accessorizing and re-picking his outfit takes maybe another 5-10. Hair is usually less than a minute unless it’s being especially uncooperative. Makeup is blessedly just BB, eyebrows, shadow and liner on a regular day. 10 minutes. Total time is about an hour, but he can cut it down to 30 minutes if he MUST.

Their favorite thing to collect: Skincare products. You know that bin of product Stef has in the bathroom? That times like 5.

Left or right-handed: Right.

Religion (if any): …I’m honestly not sure? I feel like he’d follow whatever his family follows. Maybe catholic?

Favorite sport: Surfing, then beach volleyball, then basketball.

Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): Local food and shopping. He bring back omiyage for days if he’s not travelling with the team.

Favorite kind of weather: Sun, he also likes going out.

A weird/obscure fear they have: Too many birds at once.

The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: Shooters, rhythm games. Music gun gun is his jam. He is also the currenT DDR champion of the team, although Shiro and Hunk are returning challengers. He’s also hands down the best at that one sniper game.

What they smell like: A REASONABLE amount of TASTEFUL cologne and a little laundry softener. Not the douchey kind that smells vaguely of money. Otherwise, smells like whatever’s cooking, or coffee.

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): Side sleeper also, holds things. Also a morning person, but a little later than Lance at 11-12 to 6-7. Sleeps light and moves, snores slightly if he ends up facedown.

What music they enjoy: he has a few songs Lance sang for him in the library. He ALSO does covers on ukulele or guitar (Mostly ukulele) and has a few original songs he did, but doesn’t record them for the most part. Lots of rock and alternative, some pop, some acoustic covers, some music he picked up from the others (just the catchy stuff)

How much time they spend getting ready every morning: To make up for Lance, he takes about 15 minutes. Quick shower if it’s hot (long showers at night) an all-in-one toner/serum/moisturizer that Lance got him on, brush teeth, comb hair, change clothes, done. He usually has time to make breakfast.

Their favorite thing to collect: Tools, gadgets, materials, etc. Stuff he can scrap and use to build new stuff. Similar to Pidge’s collection, but more focused on hardware. They usually cooperate on projects, so this works out.

Left or right-handed: Right, but pretty capable with left.

Religion (if any): Not really, but his family is Catholic.

Favorite sport: Surfing, hiking and judo if those count.

Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): Getting to experience the culture. Local food and talking to the people and taking part in the culture. He looooves the universal translator.

Favorite kind of weather: Rain, and storm parties.

A weird/obscure fear they have: Shiro in his kitchen wormy lookin bugs

The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: ALSO good at shooters and rhythm games. Taiko no Tatsujin reigning champion and a returning competitor for Lance’s DDR crown. Also Lance’s music gun gun partner, they literally never play with anyone else.

oK SHIRO:

What they smell like: Clean. Just like soap and deodorant. Kinda fob, actually. Maybe kinda sweaty if he’s been fighting or training or something.

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): side sleeper, tends to curl up a bit and needs to have something or someone pressed against his back, so will wedge himself between pillows or against the wall. Will also spoon anything left in arms reach. Moves a lot, sleeps light, prone to nightmares and sleeptalking. Also restless and prone to anxiety whenever he’s trying to relax, so he doesn’t sleep much. A night owl, he usually sleeps from 3-10, give or take an hour.

What music they enjoy: Probably indie stuff, mostly. Kinda hipster stuff, he’s the type that has favorite bands. 

How much time they spend getting ready every morning: 30 if he showers, 15 if not. Skincare/makeup is just moisturizer, then bb and eyeliner and MAYBE shadow if he’s feelin’ it. Change clothes, brush teeth, hair wax if necessary, and good to go. Except he’s tired for like an hour after he wakes up so.

Their favorite thing to collect: Books, star charts, stuff about space. He was kind of obsessed and is still pretty fascinated.

Left or right-handed: He was reaLLY right hand dominant, but the prosthetic lacks some precision for certain tasks so he’s adapted to be more ambidextrous. His handwriting is appalling and he can’t use chopsticks anymore.

Religion (if any): some branch of buddhism he grew up with, but he doesn’t think about it much.

Favorite sport: If martial arts counts, judo, then basketball.

Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): Museums and festivals. Enjoys the history and science, and festivals are fun.

Favorite kind of weather: Storms and rain. He likes being outside in the rain and running through puddles and shit. Will come home looking like he showered fully dressed bc he was out playing in the rain like a fuckin five year old.

A weird/obscure fear they have: Isopods

The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: ALSO good at throwing shit at carnivals, but generally monopolizes any and all racing games with Keith at arcades. Challenges Lance to DDR regularly but has, like, a 6:1 loss-win ratio. Shiro’s not bad at it; Lance is just really good. 

PIDGE

What they smell like: Coffee. Depending on how invested they get in a project, they might smell kinda sweaty from hours of nonstop work, but usually someone stops them and reminds them to eat, sleep and shower every 24 hours.

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): stomach sleeper, drapes over things. They don’t sleep so much as they crash at about 4 AM, or they power through it and when they’ve finished whatever they were working on they crash for like 15 hours. Sleeps like they’re dead, and is out wherever they fall. Is often carried to bed by their team when found passed out in a hallway or something.

What music they enjoy: Uhh probably like punk rock or something. Regrettably appreciates Keith’s shitty music library.

How much time they spend getting ready every morning: They roll out of bed and usually remember to brush their teeth. They shower if they didn’t the night before and get back to whatever they were working on.

Their favorite thing to collect: Scraps. Like Hunk, old devices and robots and gadgets that they gut later for parts, with a heavier focus on software. Hunk and Pidge share collections, but Hunk’s is organized and neat while Pidge’s is a pile in a corner of their lab.

Left or right-handed: Left.

Religion (if any): None

Favorite sport: They aren’t super sporty, not that they dislike physical activity, they just find normal sports too boring and the rules annoying so  they make up games to play with the team. So far capture the flag with floor-is-lava rules and Assassin are their favorites.

Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): Museums definitely, especially on other planets. they prefer the sciencey-ones and will also try to stop by libraries and universities they pass.

Favorite kind of weather: Clear, because rain means slow internet, though they also like the storm parties. 

A weird/obscure fear they have: Being abandoned by the team. Despite being an invaluable and much-loved member of the team, they aren’t super social and worry occasionally that they’ll be left out. This is never the case, though.

The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: The bishibashi master, first of all, and also somehow really good at any carnival game involving throwing stuff. Rings, darts, etc.

ANNNNND KEITH FINALLY.

What they smell like: Line dried clothes and sweat, but not in a bad way, just very natural. Smells like shampoo for hours after a shower, tho (bc thick hair) which is nice.

How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): side sleeper, no set schedule. Like Allura, he sleeps whenever he’s tired and feel he needs it, in 3-6 hour bursts. Sleeps light. Also after returning to earth, he never has a bed of his own–he sleeps in his car, under the stars, in rented rooms, or on the couch when he’s alone. Otherwise, he sleeps next to a team member. None of them usually mind.

What music they enjoy: Obscure indie rock, punk rock, and whatever’s on. Also acoustic covers. Also likes that Lance sings at him. 

How much time they spend getting ready every morning: Like, ten minutes. He showers at night and wears most of his clothes when he sleeps so he just rolls out of bed, washes his face, brushes his teeth and maybe brushes his hair or ties it up. Done.

Their favorite thing to collect: otHER PEOPLE’S SHIT. Why’d he have Shiro’s clothes when he found him in the desert? Stole all his shit. Where’s Lance’s bathrobe? Keith has it. Pidge’s notebook? Keith. Why are you wearing Hunk’s jacket? Are those Allura’s hairpins? Did Coran SAY you could use that glass? Things get back to their owners eventually, except some small things they just let him keep.

Left or right-handed: Right dominant but is slightly ambidexterous. His left hand writing is legible, but ugly.

Religion (if any): none

Favorite sport: Again if martial arts count; aikido, which has come in handy oFTEN bc he was a tiny kid. In general he likes any kind of close-combat bc he’s gooD at it; sports in general he’s not stellar at bc short legs.

Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): Local food, but mostly bc he likes eating. He just likes exploring in general so as long as they’re seeing new stuff he’s interested.

Favorite kind of weather: Another person who likes to play in the rain, but is more likely to take an umbrella and stay half dry at least. Likes relaxing indoors and warming back up afterwards.

A weird/obscure fear they have: plants that know too much.

The carnival/arcade game they always win without fail: He’s pretty tied with Shiro at, like, every racing arcade game ever.
