Re: our dm's for john x jennifer.
What do you think about john teaching her to surf?
omgomgomg he definitely teaches her to surf
i think it would take him some time to convince her to go and she finally gives in mostly bc she feels bad saying no so much but then when they finally get out there and johns being all sweet and smart and passionate and excited and he's in a wet suit jennifer is like 👀👀👀
and it turns into like a semi regular thing where when they both have down time john takes jennifer to the mainland and he gives her surfing lessons and the tension keeps building and one day they're up on a board together and his hands slide a little lower than normal and she backs up a little closer than normal and AHHHHHHHH
beach sex!!!!!!!! yes!!!!!!! i'm obsessed with this idea honestly omg 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

HCs I've had until now:
The Agent always makes sure to have Thalia has someone accompanying her when inside the Company facilities after learning of the treatment she usually receives. They will glare at anyone giving Thalia the stink eye.
The Agent can be very stern at times (out of worry) with their younger brats siblings/children, especially with Thalia, given how reckless she can be on missions. No, the "sorry tactic" isn't going to work on stopping the hours long nagging lecture. "
Jane and the Agent have an... odd relationship. Every single day they throw sarcastic remarks at each other, being mean and glaring at each other. But, interestingly enough, when another person insults Jane or the Agent, one or the other will be at that person's throat. "No one else but me gets to insult them like that😤"
You know how Ariel gets trolled by Thalia on a daily basis when it comes to youth trends? Well, the difference between her and the Agent is that they have learned not to trust Thalia when it comes to nowadays slang, after embarrassing themselves in the team's group chat (they asked her what being "The Goat" meant and Tally told them it was meant to be an insult. They ended up sending "You are the GOAT of this team" to Jane when they were in the middle of sarcastically insulting each other🤣)
John. O' poor John. The one person who tried, at the beginning, to stop his sister and the Agent's seemingly heated argument from escalating further, now has resigned to his fate of quietly standing at the corner and tuning out what both of them say, while he surfs the net.
CACKLING AT THESE HEADCANONS, ANON 😭😭😭
Thalia be protesting the whole time ("Ay puta naman 'o. I can handle myself, Agent. What the fuck.") and acting all tough, though deep down she appreciates it
Both of the brats would be just groaning in exasperation, Thalia doing it even louder if the nagging is directed to her mostly
Love this kind of relationship ngl. Me and my own friend do this irl and I resonate with this headcanon so badly.
Ariel, my (literal) angel, my baby. Someone needs to really teach her the youth slangs properly really soon. I'm starting to feel bad. Atleast Agent's adapting and learning. 😭😭
This is just canon, honestly.

Being adopted by an extrovert is one of the best things to happen to you as an introvert, you sometimes need someone to balance you out, someone to pull you out of your comfort zone, someone to make you speak and express yourself beyond a hobby that probably drowns you most of the time.
"Everyone's a little blind," Pope read the book out loud, "And I don't just mean physically but also mentally, as simple minds, we tend to live in the moment instead of looking beyond ourselves, we don't usually analyze everything around us, we just refuse to do it, we're ignorant. Only a few of us tend to try, but we can never know the whole truth, no matter how much we study the details; most of the times people who do that practice some type of artistry where they can document their point of view,"
"Thank you, Pope," the teacher smiled at him.
"Kiara, can you resume the reading please?"
"Yes," she stood up, "We miss on a lot of things every day, whether it's your future wife, husband, or partner walking beside you; maybe it's the house you'll end up dying, it can even be the restaurant you're gonna have the last meal. In a way, there's no perfect practice to see the world, we either get too lost inside our heads or we get too bewitched by the wonders of the materialistic plane,"
Miss Valencia nodded at the girl, "John?"
The brunette cleared his throat, "My wife wanted to eat the world as fast as she could whilst I watched her from behind with amazement, ergo my best sellers, I do regret not living enough, and she would tell me on her death bed how much she regretted not taking a step back. Unfortunately, we're machines that are too complex and too stubborn to find the balance, because there isn't one, not available to us mortals at least. Despite the fact that I want to end this book with some type of philosophical advice, I'm not that thinky, I'm an introverted writer who can go either way, overcompensating with a social-magnet alter-ego, or disappearing in the dark forest of my thoughts,"
"JJ," you slightly pushed his arm.
"What?" he turned to you.
You passed him your notebook filled with questions. Due to your strong opposite nature, your friendship became a subconscious win-win, he offered to ask any questions you could come up with in class making him look better in the teachers' eyes; you offered to help him with exams, homework, and projects making him show how grateful he was never leaving you alone in any crowd; he offered you to teach you how to surf making you always stitch him up after any confrontation; you offered your house to crash while he slowly introduced you to the pogues.
"Does anyone have a question?"
JJ raised his hand.
"Yes, JJ,"
"I don't agree with the writer," he crossed his arms.
"Why not?" the teacher seemed intrigued.
"Because, I do think there's a balance, and I think we can find it in the people that we care about,"
"Explain that,"
"W- well," he stuttered looking at you for more, you grimaced not expecting that question, "When- when it comes to your family, your friends, or the person you're in love with, you fix on the little things about them because of how close you are to them, you could be at a party drinking and then you notice your brother or sister acting weird and so you realize they're sad or somethin', you're enjoying the party sure, but then you turn around and you can tell there's something wrong,"
"But when you turn around you focus on something specific, let's say someone leaves the party while you ask that person if they're okay, you wouldn't notice, you're no longer in the emotionless moment, you're in the sensitive plane of someone else, you're still missing something,"
"Okay, then explain to me this, balance is all about finding a mid-point, not of your attention but of the way you use it, let's say half of my lifetime I end up only noticing the details and then the other I just live without thinking, that's balance isn't it?" after hearing himself JJ was stunned, the only reason why that came out of her mouth is that while reading along her couldn't stop shaking his head.
The woman nodded, "Let's circle back to that tomorrow JJ, I'll think about it after school, anyone else?"
No one seemed surprised, it wasn't the first time JJ had outsmarted the teachers, usually, you would always give him a perfect script, unluckily this time he had to improvise hoping for the best.
"Sorry," you whispered, "I didn't think she was gonna ask you that,"
"It's okay, I just- um- it's- it's fine,"
"Okay," you nodded.
He copied your action still a little puzzled, he decided to shrug it off, the bell rang making everyone sprint out of the building.
"What did the teacher said at the end? I didn't hear shit," he wrapped his arm over your shoulders.
"We have to write an essay on the chapter we read today," you opened your car and gave him the keys.
He groaned, "I hate writing essays, good thing I have you," he poked your nose.
"You'd be lost without me Maybank," you sat on the co-pilot seat.
"Says the one who can't even speak in class," he started the engine.
"Hey JJ! Se you at the chateau?!" John yelled.
"I can't, see you tomorrow?!"
"Sure," John got close to the vehicle to do their signature handshake, "By Y/N," he saluted you.
"Bye," you waved at him.
˙˚˙༓࿇༓˙˚˙
"In conclusion..." JJ huffed, "I'm really fucking done with this and I wanna smoke,"
"JJ," you scolded him.
"Please help me," he whined.
"Use what you said today," you grabbed a package of oreo's, when the bag crunched open, he turned his head a little bit without taking the eyes off the computer, it was your thing, feeding each other if one of you was working.
"Yeah but," he spoke with his mouth full only to bother you, "I can't say the exact same thing, come on help me,"
You thought for a second, "How about you write how we're actually not blind because we all have different perspectives of the world, right?"
"Like, how are we supposed to not miss the world if we technically can't agree on one version of it, because we all have one of our own," he finished your train of thought.
"Yes, exactly!"
"Maybe, we are different worlds, like our brains are tiny little worlds,"
"Yes, use that,"
˙˚˙༓࿇༓˙˚˙
"I mean, she's- she's cool," John tried to hide his obvious feelings for Sarah Cameron.
"Come on, just admit it man, you're pussy-whipped," JJ took the final sip of his beer.
"Said the biggest simp on the world," Pope let out getting killer looks from the other two.
"What did you just say?" JJ frowned.
"Uh- no- nothing, you want another beer?" he walked to the kitchen trying to change the subject.
"I'm not a simp," JJ shook his head.
Their silence spoke more that words could.
"You guys seriously don't think that, do you?"
They all denied in unison.
"Oh my god, you totally think I am," JJ scoffed offended.
"We don't, let's just talk about something else, okay?" John padded his back.
"Why would you guys think that? Come on, tell me,"
"Why wouldn't we?" Pope sat on the couch.
"Pope," John tried to stop him.
"What? He wants to know," he was definitely intoxicated, "Besides, it's way too obvious, it's his problem being dumb,"
JJ tried to argue but he couldn't deny that.
"I mean, how many times have you gotten laid in the last year?"
"I dunno, I couple of times maybe,"
"5, 5 times," John corrected him.
"That's on a whole year, I honestly don't know how you haven't gotten an STD in the past ones," Pope exaggerated, "And you know where you've been most nights? Crashing on Y/N's couch, you beraly hang out with us anymore, you're always following her like a lost puppy everywhere she goes,  and don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, hell, she's even starting to rub off on you, I saw your face yesterday, you came up with that whole balance speech all on your own, why? Because you actually paid attention to class. Remember when she went to visit her mom on the Mainland? The only reason why you got out of bed in two days was to go pick her up from the port, you may not want to admit it, but deep down you know I'm right," he poked JJ's chest.
JJ froze, a bucket of ice-cold water had been thrown at him opening his eyes.
"All these good things that you're doing, although they make you a better person, a part of you hopes that if you are then maybe, just maybe she'll like you back because you wanna be the person she deserves, now, am I worried that if she's gone you'll go back to normal? No, because I do believe you will continue on the right path and that's great, but as we're speaking you're continuing to fall for her more every day,"
˙˚˙༓࿇༓˙˚˙
"JJ!" you snapped your fingers in front of him interrupting his thikings, "Are you listening to me?"
"Uhhh," he closed his eyes, "No, not really, sorry,"
"Maybe we should leave, you're pretty drunk, come on," you grabbed his hand as you dragged him out of the party.
The blonde lazily got in your car. For the past few days, he's been questioning his whole self around you, and he slowly started to pick up on more small things he does for you, like whispering a few jokes here and there at parties to make you laugh and feel included in the conversation, or the way he would place his hand on your lower back every time he was walking by your side to make sure you're safe, the way he runs to you for even a paper cut just so he could get your attention, the way he knew your favorite songs by heart, whenever he bought 'sour patch kids' he would always separate the blue ones aside from the red because those are your favorites, the way he'd overused his cropped shirts knowing you'd compliment him, the way he would let you pop his back pimples no matter how gross he thought it was. And now, alcohol running through his veins, he realized he was blind, he's missed his feelings for the past year, and in just a few days, he's missed the moment diving deeper and deeper into his vast ocean of emotions.
He looked at you, he truly looked at you, he roamed your face studying its details, and for the first time in forever, he felt like he was seeing the most beautiful thing in the world.

JJ’s hung up.
You’d been spending less time at the Chateau in favor of spending time with Trent since it was the last week that he’d be on the island. His mind was racing, conflicted with the thoughts of your mouth on Trent and his lips on your neck. The night of the party had been the worst moment of the week and his jaw hurt from clenching by the time he ended up crashing out on John B’s couch. JJ always drank to forget and that night wasn’t an exception.
He knew it wasn’t just about sex with you anymore. It wasn’t about the opportunity for him to get off by the hand of someone else. It wasn’t about him taking advantage of you. There was nothing complicated about the two of you in the bedroom.
But outside of the bedroom, JJ’s head was spinning every time you said goodbye or forced him out the door because your parents were home. He didn’t have to think when he was with you; JJ knew what you wanted and knew what to expect. He knew that his time alone with you was the product of these lessons but that didn’t mean he had to think of this time as anything but passionate. When his tongue wasn’t down your throat, he was thinking about the tight feeling in his chest that left him wondering what was going to happen once you told him it was over because he didn’t want this to end.
JJ hadn’t thought about the lessons ending until he saw you tucked underneath Trent’s arm at the party. This whole situation wasn’t friends with benefits and he knew it, which is why it messed with his head so much. Yes, there was the whole “no strings attached” ordeal, but this wasn’t just one of you calling the other for sex. This was much more complicated. You were one of JJ’s best friends but the only difference is you’d seen him naked, intentionally.
His thoughts are preoccupied with the idea that once the lessons end, you might still be with Trent despite him no longer being on the island. JJ would have to go back to being just friends and he’d have to pretend that he never saw you naked. He’d have to pretend he didn’t revel in the thought of you trembling beneath him. The other Pogues, to his knowledge, had no idea that the both of you were fooling around and he didn’t know if it was something he wanted to disclose. On one hand, he wanted a second opinion on whether or not this was something healthy. On the other hand, he knew what they would say; that JJ didn’t care about catching feelings and it was unlikely that he would consider succumbing to being a boyfriend. He knew he’d expressed his disdain for relationships in the past, but now he wasn’t so sure.
You ended up skipping out on the last two beach sessions in favor of Trent. Pope had decided to stay behind on the sand with JJ while Sarah, Kiara, and John B. enjoyed themselves under the warmth of the sun and the contrasting coolness of the ocean waves. Pope could sense something was amiss when JJ was the first to propose having a relaxing afternoon and hadn’t shown up with his surfboard tucked underneath his arm.
“Something’s up,” Pope stated. “Something’s been up for a while and I didn’t want to say anything about it until I knew for sure, but something’s definitely up.” JJ shook his head.
“It’s nothing.” Pope nudged JJ with his shoulder.
“C’mon, man. You don’t want to surf, your mind is a million miles from where you are, and not to mention, this entire week you’ve been moody.”
“I’m not moody,” JJ muttered with a scowl, flicking at a clump of sand near his foot. Pope’s mouth formed a knowing smile. JJ sighed. “Okay, I’ve been moody.”
“What’s up? Is it your dad again?”
“No,” JJ replied softly. “I just think life is bullshit.”
“We all think life is bullshit.”
“Feelings are bullshit.” Pope’s ears perked with interest.
“Feelings?” JJ looked at Pope before looking back at the view in front of him, watching as Kiara had playfully splashed Sarah with ocean water. He wished he could feel that carefree.
“They suck,” he began. “I think it’s stupid that people are allowed to feel something for people and not know if they feel the same.”
“Are you talking about someone?” JJ paused.
“No,” he replied.
“Okay...” Pope trailed off. JJ sighed once more.
“What I’m trying to say, is, I wish we weren’t cursed with not knowing where the lines are blurred and I wish we could all say how we feel without consequence.”
Pope sensed that JJ was trying to speak metaphorically and project his emotions on a secondary situation. He nodded, trying to follow the blond’s train of thought. He pursed his lips as JJ spoke and wanted to understand what he was saying to the fullest extent, but the boy decided to let JJ talk.
“Have you ever thought about getting off this island?” JJ asked after a few moments of silence.
“What kind of question is that?” Pope asked, laughing. “Of course I do.”
“But really,” said JJ. “Not just getting off and seeing what it’s like. I mean, like, what you’re gonna be doing in twenty years and the people who are going to be in your life.”
“Sometimes,” Pope replied with a casual shrug. “I try to take things one day at a time. I never want to overwhelm myself.”
“Lucky you,” JJ muttered. “I see myself off of this stupid fucking island by the time I’m thirty. I don’t want to live in a place where I feel trapped and can’t say what I want to fucking say.”
“I want to be able to forget about the Kooks,” Pope chimed in. JJ nodded. “I kinda want to live in San Francisco.”
“I’d probably live in Europe or something,” JJ said. “Don’t know where but I’d want to experience life as far away from North Carolina as possible.”
“You sure you’re okay?” Pope asked. He knew he wasn’t.
“Yeah, man,” JJ replied. “Just got a lot of things on my mind.”
The idea of fooling around with anyone that wasn’t you hadn’t crossed JJ’s mind. He’d been to Boneyard keggers since the lessons began but the notion of flirting and bringing a girl back to the Chateau was way off his radar. The Pogues didn’t take much notice but JJ wondered if they knew something was amiss or if they’d say something about it if they did. If he was able to realize he hadn’t slept with anyone since he began “teaching” you, then they might have. JJ knew their worlds didn’t revolve around him, and the boy was still as goofy and troublesome as ever, but there was a seeded doubt that made him awkward whenever he was around his friends if you happened to be there.
It wasn’t that his stomach felt queasy or that his heart was racing. He’d be lying to himself if he admitted that. His head was clear when it came to how he felt about you and he wouldn’t hesitate rushing to your house if you called him for another lesson or if you just wanted to kick back with him in your room and jam out to vinyls you pulled out whenever you felt nostalgic. Before, he would never have considered approaching your side of the island but now he didn’t feel as small as he did when he didn’t have a reason to be there. Your parents were familiar with your friends and didn’t mind JJ stopping by, which gave him more of an incentive to visit you when he had had enough of the Chateau and his friends’ loud personalities.
JJ knew his head was clear when it came to how he was feeling. The only part that clouded his judgement was Trent and dealing with the different friendship he’d have with you. He was sure that if the Touron wasn’t in the picture, things would be much easier for him. Trent’s dark and slick hair reminded him of greed and filth. His boisterous personality reminded JJ of everything he never wanted to be and he couldn’t understand why you’d pay attention to him for longer than a quick glance. The Touron was casually cool, the type of person who wanted to say they were able to rub elbows with the socialites of New York City by posting it on his social media accounts. You, on the other hand, were down to earth and courageous about your future potential. He couldn’t fathom why you were so attracted to someone who was your opposite.
Your head had been spinning too. Trent was the perfect gentleman and he hadn’t given you a reason to not trust him. And yet, every moment you spent with him reminded you that you weren’t spending it with JJ. You couldn’t understand why you’d been thinking about his shaggy hair when he wakes up or the way his eyes squint when he laughs a little too hard. Trent was giving you his full and undivided attention, and you always felt guilty when you needed to force yourself back into reality because you had been zoning out, daydreaming of being anywhere else.
But JJ never seemed to be anything other than friendly with you. You opted to disregard how he acted during the lessons, summing that up to pent up sexual frustration and a genuine interest to help you out after years of teasing you. You weren’t completely naive; you knew this was a way for JJ to get himself off, much like it was for you. The only difference between JJ taking advantage of you versus not was the fact that you wanted him to teach you how to make others feel good and how to make yourself feel like a goddess in the bedroom. You weren’t exactly sure why there had been a lack of awkwardness between the both of you despite him being your best friend since birth. There was never a question of doubt from JJ when you asked him to help you learn. There was no laughing when you admitted your lack of knowledge. Perhaps that’s why your initial doubt disappeared the first time he asked you to kiss him.
Trent had apologized for the beach date when he’d gotten startled by strangers parking next to him and promised you he’d make it up to you. He came through on his promise after you got worked up before your dinner date. You arrived at the hotel he was staying at while his father attended an event on the other side of Figure Eight and his hand glided up the side of your dress. Trent wasn’t rough nor was he gentle; he was giving you what you thought you wanted but it didn’t feel as skilled or as tender as when JJ’s fingers were inside of you. With JJ, your orgasm approached as if JJ already knew everything there was to know but Trent took his sweet time making you cum.
You always cursed yourself for letting your mind wander innocuously to JJ when Trent’s lips were on your neck or when his fingers were toying with the hem of your clothing. There wasn’t much going on between you and Trent, sexually, despite him wanting to take it further. You were lucky enough that Trent verbally expressed his willingness to wait, but you wondered if that wait time had an expiration date. You wanted to make sure if it felt right before you were able to deliver on a promise. You knew that your lessons with the blond would come to an end the moment you two had gone all the way, or until you were ready to experience sex without JJ, and you always moved that thought to the back of your mind to avoid thinking about it.
By now, you felt guilty for spending the majority of this week with Trent. Kiara had texted you a few times but understood wanting to spend time with him until he left. As far as you could tell, neither John B. nor Pope cared too much because they were happy their youngest friend was happy with someone. JJ, on the other hand, you couldn’t read. You didn’t understand why it was so difficult for you to reach out to him first or comprehend him, which you were usually good at. Suddenly, you were overthinking the way he talked to you and if he chose to sit next to you or someone else. You were overthinking his lingering gaze either on your thighs or some girl who walked past him with a weird knot in the pit of your stomach.
You kept telling yourself none of that mattered because you had Trent and you were sure you knew how you felt. Trent treated you right, was willing to wait, and never made you feel second best for not being as sexually promiscuous as he was. Yet something was lacking and you couldn’t figure out what it was.
You tried not to think about it on your way to the Chateau. The screen door slammed shut as you walked into the living room to try and save yourself from the downpour of rain. After Trent had dropped you off when his father had called him during the middle of a movie marathon, you opted to see the Pogues and spend some time with them once you realized how many times you had declined their offer to hang out. You saw JJ already sprawled out on the couch, seemingly all by himself.
“John B’s out with Sarah,” he said casually, pushing himself up onto his elbows to give you some room to sit down. You nodded a thank you, crossing your arms over your wet torso in an attempt to warm your shivering body as you sat down. Glancing down at your chest, you silently swore as you noticed your red bra was, in fact, very visible under your white shirt.
“Nice bra,” he chuckled, trying not to ogle too long. JJ hoped his comment didn’t make you feel awkward; he was having a hard time talking to you because he didn’t exactly know where he stood with you.
“Shut up,” you mumbled but you couldn’t help the heat that rose to your cheeks.
“So…” JJ trailed off. “How’ve you been? Haven’t seen you in a few days.”
“I’ve been good,” you nodded.
“And Trent?” he asked, attempting, and majorly failing, to hide the venom that laced his tongue. You mistook this as annoyance.
“Good,” you said, not wanting to talk about him anymore. JJ cleared his throat, his teeth grinding as he clenched his jaw, as he shifted on the couch so that he was sitting upright and facing you.
“You've been putting my lessons to good use?” he asked. He didn’t know why he’d asked. He had no desire to hear about you with another guy.
“You could say that,” you said. Were you really putting them to good use if you weren’t enjoying yourself with Trent nearly as much as you had been with JJ? You couldn’t tell JJ that Trent’s hands on you just sent your mind spiraling back to him or when Trent’s lips were on yours, it reminded you of that first night you started the whole thing.
“Oh? Does he make you feel good?” he asked, moving closer to you. “Because it’s not worth it if you’re not getting something out of it, too.”
“Uh, well-”
“Do you want me to make you feel good?” he asked suddenly. He knew he was asking the question more for himself but he was desperate to have you again. He figured it wouldn’t hurt to show you how a real man treats his girl.
“What?” you were taken aback by the forwardness of his question. You watched as his eyes dilated, flicking back and forth from your lips to your chest.
“You know what I mean,” he said. “You need to be shown what it’s like to be taken care of.”
“But you already-”
“Just let me do this for you,” he snapped. “Please.”
“Okay,” you said before turning your body on the couch to face him. You hadn’t stopped shivering since entering the Chateau not too long ago and your goosebumps increased as you watched JJ move closer to you. He used his right hand to pry your knees apart, positioning himself between them. Your heart rate picked up as he leaned forward to press his lips against yours, the cold air hitting your wet skin when JJ pushed the soaked fabric of your t-shirt up so that it rested just under the hemline of your bra.
“Up,” he mumbled against your lips, the vibrations forcing a soft moan out of you as you broke the kiss to lift your arms above your head. You let out a small laugh when your shirt made a sloshing sound against the ground. It stopped as soon as it started, however, because you felt JJ start applying open-mouthed kisses along your collarbones.
Feeling his body pressed up against yours stirred up all the daydreams you’d had every time you’d gotten intimate with Trent. You’d been in this position before with him, but somehow it felt better without the pretense of a lesson. You were under the guise that this wasn’t just about teaching you what you liked and what you didn’t. Part of you wanted to believe that this was more than a lesson you’d acquire from JJ’s depth of knowledge. JJ’s kisses trailed lower and lower until his teeth started toying with the waistband of your shorts. The throbbing between your legs was growing steadily and you let out a sigh of relief when he finally dipped his fingers into the waistband and tugged the wet shorts down your legs with effort because of the rain, dropping them on the floor with your shirt.
“JJ,” you whimpered as he took his time moving down your body. He slipped his hands under your knees so that he could place them on his shoulders delicately before he laid out on the couch with his face centimeters away from your nearly bare pussy.
He let out a soft laugh in disbelief at how incredibly soaked you already were. It was practically coating your thighs at this point and your cunt was aching in anticipation for his touch. All JJ could think about is how you let another man see you from this point of view, which was enough to give rise to JJ’s ego. His mission was to make you feel so good that you’d think of him the next time Trent put his hands down your pants; he wanted you to remember this moment and know what it was like to be eaten out by someone who was determined to make you orgasm like a holy grail.
JJ’s jealousy didn’t cause him to act rashly and dominate the situation. He started by pressing fluttering kisses to the side of your knee, his eyes flickering up to see you watching him intently. JJ began by tenderly kissing the inside of your thighs, making comments about how soft you are and how you smelled so sweet. He does all he can to make you squirm underneath his touch, loving that your gaze didn’t leave him even if you tried. JJ pressed a kiss to the waistband of your underwear and you whimpered at the thought of him being so close to you in a way that was more intimate than before.
He chuckled when he heard you whimper again and moved his mouth to kiss along your clothed entrance. You knew JJ’s game all too well and you knew he’d take his time teasing you until you were begging for it. It took a while to come to this conclusion, but you figured out that you enjoyed the slow pace before the big finish. JJ had taught you that when you reached an orgasm, it was less about the other party getting off by getting you off. The point of your orgasm was to make you feel like a queen in the bedroom, not like a used toy to get someone else off.
So when JJ used the pad of his index finger to move your underwear aside and toy with your cunt, you didn’t bother begging for his mouth. Instead, you closed your eyes and relished in the feeling of his warm hands on you. JJ looked pleased at your reaction and wanted to make this moment last for as long as he could. His finger moved in slow circles before hitting a sensitive nerve that caused your hips to rise, to which JJ laughed and pinned you down in the cushions.
JJ pressed two delicate kisses on your entrance. His mouth was being coated in your slick and he licked his lips, closing his eyes to savor the way you tasted. His body inched forward in an attempt to be as close to you as possible before licking a stripe with his tongue pressed flat against you, causing you to let out a deep moan in satisfaction.
JJ’s tongue worked like magic, as if he already knew all of your weak spots and was discovering the different sounds you could make by his tongue. His hands were gripping your thighs and his eyes would look at his meal before back up at you, and you had taken the liberty to use your hands to tug on his hair when he had hit a pleasure point.
“That’s a good girl,” he whispered against you to himself, proud of how loud and unapologetic you were being. He swore that if the Pogues had walked in the door, he’d stop eating your pussy and show them how pretty you looked underneath him. But he knew they would all be at Kiara’s until the storm passed.
His motions were delicate until he recalled the thought of you and Trent together in bed. His tongue began to dart in and out of you at a faster speed with every increasing thought. Giving Trent a handjob. Trent stripping you out of your bra and underwear. His fingers inside of you. His tongue down your throat. His cock in your mouth. His cock in your - JJ’s - pussy. He knew he was irrational and wrong to think that last thought, but in this moment, your pussy was his for the taking and he was going to make your orgasm like your life depended on it.
JJ’s grip on your thighs became tighter and you felt locked underneath him. Your toes curled and your hips bucked at the pressure and pace at which JJ was eating you out. His head was moving like he was catching every last drop of your wetness before going back for some more. JJ had taken the liberty to lift his head and spit on your entrance before diving back in, his tongue so deep inside of you that you almost considered asking him to use his cock instead.
“JJ,” you muttered, tugging on his hair.
“Just cum, baby,” he urged. “I’m ready for you.”
You obliged and it didn’t take you that long to release. JJ lapped the white pearls that were spilling out of you and his eyes were rolling to the back of his head as he realized this was the first time he was seeing you, and tasting you, from this angle. JJ’s jaw was becoming sore but he paid no attention as your legs spread wider against the couch and your body moved to the rhythm of his tongue.
When you were coming down from your high, JJ couldn’t have imagined anything hotter than the sight and sound before him, but your fingers reached down to your aching core in oblivion and began toying with your clit as your breathing steadied. JJ watched in awe as your fingers moved in slow, delicate and circular motions, your bottom lip in between your teeth and your eyes shut. His mouth hung open at how totally, completely, and utterly fucked you were in this orgasmic haze and was pulled out of this fantasy when you tugged your hand away and reached for a tissue to clean yourself up.
JJ couldn't think of anything to say and neither could you. You settled on watching a movie in silence.

College Headcanons: Modern!Peaky Blinders Edition
Part 1 | Part 2
A/N: This came to me in a dream. Enjoy.
Tumblr media
Thomas Shelby:
Double Major: Political Science and Business Management (bc he likes to work himself to death) Minor: Military Sciences/ROTC
Likes debating and trying to outsmart the professor.
Often seen on campus with bloody knuckles from rocking someone’s jaw.
Would 100% punch a motherfucker for being mean to someone he cares about.
Doesn’t need to be in a fraternity to be known around campus, just don’t mess with him and you’ll be fine.
All the girls whisper as he walks by but he don’t give a fuck cuz he has to go to his lectures.
He’s on time for every class and pulls out his pocket watch if the professor is more than 5 minutes late. If the professor can’t bother showing up then he dips out.
Almost got suspended for one too many fist fights.
Has a “thing” for the barista at the campus Starbucks. He learned after frequent visits, that her name was Grace and that she liked black coffee just like him.
Mysterious and moody af. No one knows if they’ve ever seen him smile, except when chatting up Grace.
Tries his best to study, but ends up getting dragged into his siblings shenanigans or into his head about the family business.
Keeps to himself for the most part, except for having a few close friends.
Hates technology so he uses a typewriter and prefers receiving letters/mail over emails.
Can’t figure out how to use Grace the baristas phone when typing in his number and tells her to write it down instead.
Often tells her to meet him after her shift. 😏
Professors hate him because of his reliance on paper. Totes not eco-friendly but he doesn’t care. Tommy always gets his way.
Grace always gives him a cookie for free cuz she knows he forgets to eat.
Always seen smoking or sneaking drinks of whiskey in a flask, even at 7am lectures.
Binge drinks on weekends with his bros, and drunk calls barista Grace when he has maybe 3 working brain cells left for the night. On other weekends when he’s coherent, he meets with Polly and tries to discuss business plans since their dad dipped out like a bitch.
To make matters worse, after dating for a while, Grace just leaves him. He thinks his aunt Polly may have been too hard on her, but he didn’t know until later that she lied when she said she didn’t know about the business. But barista bitch knew everything, and was gonna expose them to her higher-ups in the criminal justice department before long.
Tumblr media
Arthur Shelby:
Major: Agriculture Minor: Military Science/ROTC
Graduated just barely.
Ended up in some trouble with his peeps in the military science department, probs for cussing someone out.
Angry, loud, and emotional af.
Loved drinking with John and his frat boy friends.
No one messed with him if they valued their life.
Started one too many fights and got suspended for reals. Almost beat a man to death but we don’t talk about that.
He gets stressed really easily so in his free time he draws horses.
When he gets real mad he takes it to the campus boxing ring and punches to his hearts content.
On his way back to his dorm one night he saw a girl who was in his agriculture class. She was cute and also in a “Christian” ministry group on campus. He decided to chat her up when she was preaching, just to see what it was about.
They later dated but then she cheated around with a fellow churchy man and just went off the rails. When he found out it wasn’t pretty.
Her friends and pastor most likely shamed her cuz she be ✨sinning✨. Therefore not helping her mental state.
Her name was Linda. Never trust a Linda.
Everyone tried to console Arthur but only boxing and drinking at Johns frat house did the trick.
Tommy often had to run to his dorm in the middle of the night to talk him out his mental breakdowns. College is hard.
In the end, he was glad he did agriculture even if his crazy ex would constantly stare at him during lectures, probably plotting his demise.
Some days he’d take out his frustrations by chopping wood and helping out on the farm where he worked and studied most days.
But you bet your ass fuckin’ Linda showed up to his dorm one time though with a gun and tried to shoot him, but she didn’t know his brothers and aunt were there too. Polly may have shot her in the arm tho. But when the campus PD showed up shit really went down.
We don’t know where Linda is now, but that’s probs for the best.
Tumblr media
John Shelby:
Major: Music (idk I felt like he’s a musical boi) Minor: Military Science/ROTC
He’s a frat boy through and through. He drops it low on the dance floor and is known to dive onto beer pong tables.
Constantly going to parties and hooking up with sorority girls, that is until he meets a girl named Esme who’d been dragged to the party by her friends.
Suddenly he ain’t no hoe no more, he’s head over boots in love with her and she loves him too.
They be sneaking around in various buildings, often having to make a run for it to escape security.
He’d play her songs after hard training days with his military buds cuz it helps him calm down.
He’s not as violent as his older brothers, but he’ll fuck a person up if needed.
His fraternity is the second most important thing to him besides his girl. He loves the energy of the fraternity, the partying, and acting a whole fool with his friends, but Esme has him whipped.
His studies are struggling though cuz he loves to get turnt. He hates the studying aspect of college.
Always getting his brothers into trouble.
Snorts coke off Esme’s tits on occasion at the frat parties. It’s a wild time.
Has the mouth of a sailor but a heart of gold.
Talks of kids with Esme after dating for a year. Can’t afford a ring yet tho, but their bud Jeremiah marries them anyway on a whim.
After Arthur and the Grace fiasco ensues, he drops out of college because Esme falls pregnant. In the end, she ends up getting the chickens and wild cottage!core house she’d always wanted. They both decide to raise their kids there, living their best lives until Tommy drags them into more family matters later on.
Tumblr media
Ada Shelby:
Major: English Minor: Gender & Women’s Studies
Always seen in the most stylish clothes.
She’s quiet most times but can be very knowledgeable on various subjects.
She’s constantly going off on her older brothers and trying to smack some sense into them.
Feels like something is off with the barista Tommy’s been seeing, but it’s not her problem.
Can 100% find her chilling in the back of Starbucks reading old novels or writing literature reviews.
When she’s not there, she’s holed up in the library where she works part time, studying and practicing for debates.
10/10 would fuck in the library cuz she knows all the best secret places to go to. 😏
Organizes meetings with different campus associations and demands equality for students.
Spends her free time surfing the net for clothes or keeping an eye out for a potential new bae.
Is probably the best at studying. She earns the best grades let’s be honest.
Will not hesitate to call a bitch out. She may not throw hands but she’ll throw words that can cut you like a knife.
Works for the campus paper, spilling all the tea on campus life. Her brothers often reluctantly agree to be her mock interview subjects for a range of assignments.
She breaks necks when walking around campus, everyone moves out of their way for her.
She’s a bad bitch.
Tumblr media
Finn Shelby:
Major: Photography Minor: English
He hates how violent his brothers are but would 10/10 back them up if needed.
Often asks Ada for advice on studying and girls.
Doesn’t like the frat boy scene like John, but goes to the parties anyways with his best friends Isiah and Bonnie.
He’s a freshman and you can tell. He still has a glimmer of life in his eyes and a pep in his step as he walks around campus.
When he’s not taking pictures for class, he’s taking pictures of his girlfriend.
She’s his muse even when doing the simplest of things like sitting in a chair or reading one of his English books.
Each week he’d surprise her with a picture he took when she wasn’t looking, telling her how beautiful she is.
He may not look strong, but after many nights at the boxing ring with Arthur, he knew how to throw a punch.
He almost flunked his studies a couple times, getting too caught up in partying or being with his girl, but Ada and his Aunt Polly set him straight.
Voted by his family as most likely to not get arrested or suspended from college.
He’d have deep conversations with his friends, often confusing them because it was just that deep.
In his spare time he’d go boxing with Arthur or would try to help Tommy with his essays, but Tommy would get frustrated and tell him to fuck off within the first 10 minutes.
Tumblr media
Polly Gray:
Profession: Business Management Professor Side Job: Managing the blinder business with Tommy
When she’s not teaching class, she’s managing the blinder business that was left to her and Tommy to tackle. This also means covering up any suspicions that arise on campus. She has her hands full.
She’s Tommy’s only shred of common sense some days when he gets too stressed out from his 10,000 majors and minors, or wants to plan to overthrow the university.
Will not hesitate to slap someone, preferably her unruly nephews.
Anyone can lie to her but the truth always falls through the cracks, and when she finds out, you’d pray you faced the devil instead.
In her spare time she reads tea leaves and prays for the corrupt souls of her son and his cousins. She really just begs to god that they can come together for once to get the business in line, but even that may be asking too much.
Knows a snake when she sees one. *cough* *cough* Grace the barista.
She’s the first one to tell someone I told ya so, especially her students when they flunk her tests because they decided to get drunk the night before.
When she’s not yelling at her nephews or grading papers, she can be seen at the local bar chatting up coworkers and old flames, hoping to find “the one” eventually. She ends up having a “thing” for the quirky Philosophy professor though. He’s kind of shady cuz she finds out he’s in a similar business on the side, but it only makes her like him more. She craves the danger.
They later end up in a whirlwind romance similar to John and Esme, and everyone loves that for them.
She can also be seen with her head in her hands when trying to persuade Tommy to use technology.
“What is copy and paste Pol? Can’t I just write it down? What’s up with all these gadgets aye?”
“If you want your hand to fall off and to make me lose my mind, then yes, write it down. Grading is bloody hard enough as it is, let alone grading your papers. You’re just like your father ya know, always doing things the hard way.”
Tells Gina off when she gets the chance just like she did Grace. She didn’t shoot her like Linda though, she just hurt some feelings.
May have aided in Grace’s “sudden” departure…maybe…just a little bit.
Secretly ships Tommy with a woman named Lizzie who had been her assistant at her office. She knew she could trust her more, at least.
Despite her harshness, she’s just trying to keep her family from completely fucking up their lives.
Tumblr media
Michael Gray:
Major: Accounting Minor: Business Management
Like Tommy, he doesn’t get the hype of fraternities so he just hangs out with his cousins or his small circle of friends, they aren’t saints though.
His mom, Polly is his business management professor. She always calls on him and gives him a hard time when he spaces out in class.
Is often seen around campus with a few friends or his girlfriend Gina who he met in business class. They’re sickening and it was like a whirlwind romance tbh.
He usually finds himself cleaning up his cousin’s messes when it comes to fighting, but if he has to throw some punches he will.
He’s not as impulsive when it comes to matters of business, but where matters of the heart are concerned that’s another story.
When the blinders and Polly were all at her house for dinner one night he announced he was going to marry Gina. Arthur and John laughed and Tommy smirked slightly, still butt-hurt after his Grace left him for little-to-no reason. Ada grinned and bared the news whilst Polly nearly smacked him on the head.
People didn’t dare mess with him, and that went for all his cousins as well.
He spent a majority of his days in class crunching numbers, and most his nights out with the boys getting drunk or fuckin’ with Gina.
Because his mom held him accountable, his grades rivaled Ada’s causing them to get into some friendly competition at times.
He’s cunning like Tommy though. He got into many a screaming match with the older blinder after trying to take over his position in the family business. It ended in some black eyes and Polly smacking both of them with her newspaper. He knew better than to mess with the devil himself.
Despite the tensions between the cousins at times, he’s always the one they go to when they can’t figure out their math homework, and he’d always have to meet one of them in the library at 3 am to smuggle in some cocaine and a drink to keep them studying.

What Comes Around Goes Around
Chapter Three: Suprise!
Tumblr media
Pairing: Topper x OC (eventually?)
Warnings for this chapter: Just some good old fashion cussing, and a slightly scary scene with an older male so take that with a grain of salt.
Word count: 2k
A/N: so excited to be back to writing! get ready for the next chapter it’s going to be exciting <3
Jo drove back home, pissed she didn’t have her lemonade, pissed that her feet and sandals were all sticky, pissed Topper was such a fucking idiot, just pissed at the entire world. Worst of all Jess and Elle went for a day trip on the mainland, and Jo had no one to complain to. She pulled into her driveway, aggressively, just wanting to go lie on her bed and scream. Her mind came to halt as she slammed on her breaks, her face looking like she had just seen a ghost. She had barely put her car into park, before rushing out of it with the engine still running.
“JJ?” She yelled running to the blonde boy who had stood from his position on her front steps. She engulfed him in a hug, tears swelling in her eyes. JJ winced a bit at the hug, but soon his arms wrapped around her, returning the hug, a little tighter than he meant to. The two stood there for a minute just silent. Soon enough the hug came to an end, once Jo realized she was also angry at him. She quickly let go, shoving him.
“Where the fuck have you been? And what the hell happened to your face.” She said now noticing some fresh cuts and bruising. She took his face in her hands examining it, as he started to speak.
“I went out of town for a few weeks, couch surfed with some people on the mainland, and-” He hissed in pain when Jo touched his cheekbone pulling his face away from her. “Jesus Jo!”
“Sorry! Get inside I’ll clean you up and then you’re telling me everything.”
“Yes ma’am” He said, giving her a salute before opening her door. Jo flipped him, before walking back to her car and turning it off.

“So, I was staying at this shady dudes place, and I think he was watching me sleep so I came back here and slept on some boats, until I accidentally overslept this morning and the cops came and took me to my dad. He was wasted when I got home, so wasted I guess he thought I was a intruder or something cause uh…” He made some punching motions, laughing awkwardly. Jo frowned as she closed up the medical box, and tossed the bloody cotton balls.
“That’s not funny,”
“It is a little,”
She shook her head, starting to bandage him up.
“Where are you staying now?”
“Not sure, probably couch surf some more and then figure it out from there.”
Jo frowned looking at him, she carefully held his face, examining his bruises.
“Absolutely not, you’re staying here. At least until we figure a more permanent solution. My mom wont mind, you just can’t fuck anyone on the couch.”
JJ looked at her trying to keep a straight face, but barely lasting a few seconds before smirking.
“You are a pain in my ass Jackson”
“Oh you love me” She said, rolling her eyes and shoving him again. He winced, reaching for his side. “Shit, I’m so sorry, I’ll get ya some ice.”
“Thanks.”
She walked over to her kitchen grabbing some ice and filling it in a baggie. “So, is there anything you need? Besides this.” She tossed it at him, before sitting down next to him.
“Actually, there is one thing. I left my backpack at my dads.”
“Oh that's fine let's go grab it right now,” Already popping up, and giving him a hand.
“Just one problem… I left it inside by the front door…”
-
-
-
“No it’s fine, I’ll grab it fast in and out”
“I cannot believe you are doing this for me, I owe you big”
The two sat in Jo’s truck, parked right outside the Maybank house watching. With a deep sigh placing a hand on JJ shoulder.
“If I die, make sure my mom doesn’t find my weed.” And with that she let go and exited the car.
The Maybank house wasn’t much different from when she last saw it. Maybe a few more dead plants but that was it. She didn’t come here often, this only being her seventh or eighth time visiting. Jo took a deep breath, as she stood in front of the screen door. Carefully placing a hand on the handle she pulled it as quietly as possible before stepping onto the porch. She stepped forward, being as quiet as possible when she went to open the front door. Creak The door made a loud creaking noise, as it opened causing the brunette to flinch. ‘Shit.’ She paused, holding her breath as she waited for something to happen. Thankfully nothing did.
She opened the door further peering inside. Her eyes instantly landed on her target, as she stepped inside the old home. She snagged the bag, and almost made it out of the house when. ChackChack.
“Don’t move.”
‘Fuck fuck fuck fuck, titty fucking shit mother fucker why the fuck did she even volunteer to do this.’
“I want you to turn around carefully, no sudden movements or I’ll shoot you dead. Ya hear me?”
Jo stayed silent not moving a muscle, fear polluting her body.
“I said did ya hear me?” He cocked his gun again, this time taking a step forward.
“Yes sir.” She said, turning around, now facing him.
“Ain't you that pretty girl JJ hangs with, what business do you have in this house?”
“Sir, your son just asked me to grab his bag, that's all.”
Luke let out a hearty chuckle, the sound filling the house with a haunting echo. “Is that so? Where is the fucker anyway? He too pussy to come in, he had to send in his bitch?”
Jo stood there, not sure what to do or say. This had to be the worst outcome possible from this situation, and it was just her luck she had to actually deal with it.
“Hey! Didn’t your mother teach you any fucking manners? When an adult asks you a question you answer, now where is he?”
“Sir I”
ChackChack
“I’d choose your next words very carefully missy.”
Ptooey
Before she even fully understood what she was doing, Jo spat right at his face and sprinted out the door. She heard him yelling after her, and gunshots firing at her feet, but she just kept running. She swung the car door open, throwing the bag at JJ who huffed in pain. She reversed out of the driveway as possible, and sped down the street. It was only when they were a few miles away did she pull off to the side to take a breather.
“Holy fucking shit.” JJ said, excitement filling his voice. “I have never seen you run that fast before, you came outta there like a cheetah or some shit. Woosh!” He said laughing, before opening his bag.
“Yeah, I know I was there.” She said, rolling her eyes, before relaxing in her seat. “I think my heart is about to explode.”
“The fuck you even do to piss him off?”
“Oh you mean besides breaking and entering into his house? I spat at him?”
“No fucking way,”
“Yes fucking way,”
“You are officially my new hero, we have to throw you a party.”
“What? JJ babes I really don’t need that.”
“Nope! Party in your honor, tonight!” He said nodding, with a determined smile.
“No way you can throw a part in under three hours.”
“Watch me Josephine,”
“Don’t call me that,”
“Josephine, Josephine, Josephi-”
“Do you want to walk home?”
“No ma’am,”
“The shut the fuck up,”
Jo, turned around starting her car up again, heading back home.
“I still don’t believe you’ll be able to do it.”
“Fuck you,”
“Love you,”
Soon the car went quiet, until JJ spoke up.
“So, uh have you heard anything from the Camerons?”
Jo shook her head, tapping her steering wheel.
“I heard they threw a funeral for Sarah, and I did see Rafe at a party a few days ago.”
“Wait what?”
“Jess and Elle managed to drag me to some Kook party and we ran into him, he was def tweaked out. But Topper managed to get us out in one piece.”
“Wait hold up, Topper?”
“Yeah he even offered to drive us home-”
“Well did he?”
“Did he what?”
“Drive you home!” The blonde said in an obvious tone.
“Yeah we were all too wasted-”
“I don’t bye it,”
“Ask Jess,”
“I plan on it.”

Okay genuinely Jo thought JJ was joking around about the party. There hadn’t been one at the boneyard in weeks, everyone on the cut mourning the loss of John B. But now it was 7:23 and Jess was helping her pick something out.
“I swear to god Jo, you are not leaving this house in a bikini top”
“Jess it’s just a boneyard party-”
“That you’ll be the guest of honor at!”
“Jess babes it’s really not that big of a deal, I just won’t have to pay for my booze.”
Jess rolled her eyes, muttering something incoherently, as she sifted through the closet.
“Aha! Found it, here wear this.”
She tossed the brunette, some white really frilly shirt, causing Jo to frown.
“Absolutely not, here I’ll wear this.”
She pulled out a neon pink bikini, with a pair of black shorts. Jess shook her head, starting to put away the stuff on the bed.
“You are impossible Jo,”
“I know,” She said, smiling before walking over to the bathroom to go change.
“Are we meeting Elle there?” Jess yelled, changing into a pair of denim shorts and a white button up.
“Yeah, she has to wait until her mom gets home though.” Jo said walking back into the room.
“I’ll have to admit, you do look good.”
“Course I do.”

The drive to the boneyard was weird, for some reason it just seemed like time was going as slow as possible. Not that Jo really cared, her expectations for the part were low. She wasn’t expecting many people to show up, let alone be in a cheery mood. She was actually shocked today, by how lively JJ was. She remembered how devastated he was before disappearing, barely able to crack a smile, and never laughed. But as she pulled up to the boneyard, all her expectations were blown away.
The beach was jam packed, she hadn’t seen this many people here in what felt forever. There was a huge bonfire going, and multiple lines by the kegs, and at the heart of it all, was JJ.
“Holy shit! Did JJ do all of this by himself?” Jess asked, clearly blown away.
“I guess so,” Jo replied, almost at a loss for words.
JJ spotted her truck, and came running. The two exited the car, just as he made his way over a huge grin on his face.
“Jo you made it!”
Before she could respond, Jess butt in, still mesmerized by the situation. “JJ babes, did you really organize this all by yourself?”
“Well mostly, I did have a little help.”
Out of nowhere, Kiara and Pope appeared with two smiles on their faces.
“Surprise,” They both said in unison, still smiling.
Jo ran over to them, engulfing them in a hug. “You guys this is amazing,”
“Well, y’know this party is for you Jo, but we’re also sending a message. We’re letting those figure eight assholes know we're back, and never leaving. Again,” Pope said with a surprising amount of anger in his voice. Jo was a little confused, but didn’t want to question it.
“Well, I guess we’re back bitches!”
The group cheered, before walking over to the beach all catching up, and for the first time in weeks, Jo had forgotten everything that happened. At that moment, she was just there with her friends like it was any regular summer party. Little did she know, that night was about to unravel a series of events she never would’ve seen coming.

Tumblr media
Some people don’t like to believe in destiny. They think that each one of us has to work hard for what we want and that’s how it’s going to come into your life. Not because the universe has a plan for you, hard work and passion is what garantes you a proper and happy life. She didn’t think that was a half wrong, you do need to work hard, but is nice to have a little bit of fun in life and think that there’s something else out there than just living. There has to be something out there, something that explains the things that happens to you or what you go through.
But, wondering didn’t stop her from living every day like it was the last one and embracing every little thing that happened to her without stopping and asking herself why. She was always having fun on the beaches of Outer Banks with her best friends, or just walking around going nowhere. Summer was there to be enjoyed, so she was going to enjoy every little second.
“C’mon! It’s the first party of the summer! We can’t miss it!” She said to her best friend, while the two of them were walking to the beach on the morning of that Saturday.
“You go, tomorrow I have to wake up early. Mom wants me help on the store since summer started.” Her friend said before shrugging her shoulders and letting out a big sigh.
“You’ll get back to your place early, I promise you!”
“I want to go. But you have to convince my mom, you know if I ask her she won’t let me.” She said once the two of them walked into the beach and her feet touched the warm sand.
“You got it!” She turned around to face her and walk backwards. “You know your mom loves me.” A smile appeared on her face but when she stared to look around and every single detail her eyes were seeing were familiar, she quickly stopped.
“Are you alright?”
“I don’t know.” She said while looking around. “I’m having a déjà vu.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, oh my god, why isn’t it stopping?” She started to walk backwards again to try to stop.
“Wait! Be carful Y/n!” Her friend yelled but it was too late, her back had already hit a wet body. She quickly turned around while the déjà vu was still going, but as soon as her eyes locked eyes with a pair of blue ones, the feeling went immediately away.
The blonde guy she was staring at had the same surprise expression she had. Since his body was wet she figured he had been in the water, he was holding a surfing board while still making eye contact with her.
“JJ!” She heard a guy say behind him.
“I’m sorry... for bumping into you.” He said still surprised.
“It’s my fault, I was walking backwards.” She said shaking your head.
“Me too.” A little smile appeared on his face while the guy that called him before, appeared next to him.
“You ready to go bro?” He asked.
“Yeah man, let’s go.” He said without breaking eye contact with her. “Sorry, again.”
“Me too. Have a nice day!” She said when he and his friend started to walk away.
“What was that?” Her friend asked when she walked closer to her.
“I have... no idea. But it was fucking weird.”
“Tell me about it, from where I was standing, for the way you two looked at each other it looked like two friends who reunited after 40 years of being separated.”
She turned her head to her friend confused. “You need to stop watching romantic movies.”
Tumblr media
“Why are we here again?” JJ asked once he and Pope entered the store.
“Kie gave me a list of things to buy for the party tonight.” He said while checking the little paper he had on his hand.
“What is there to buy? We already have everything, beer, some blunts, that’s it.” JJ shrugged his shoulders but Pope didn’t answered, he was already walking more deep into the store. JJ followed him but he was not paying attention to the shelves next to him, he was looking down while his fingers were playing with his lighter.
“Do you think this is it?” Pope asked him while showing some bag of chips. He looked up and just nodded uninterested.
“Hey! Y/n! Wait up!” JJ and Pope heard coming from the other side of the store.
“Shit, it’s happening again.” JJ said after his eyes started to recognise every single detail that they were seeing. Like it was happening for the second time.
“What?” Pope asked confused.
“I’m having a déjà vu.” He said looking around trying to brush it away.
“Is it over?” Pope asked but JJ shook his head. He started to walk away getting worried because it was not ending. Usually, when it happened to him it lasted seconds, and it was not like he got them often, but for some reason this couple of days he was getting them more and more, and they were longer.
“JJ, where are you going?” Pope asked once JJ was getting closer to the end of the aisle.
“I don’t know-”
“Y/n, is it happening again?” JJ heard close to him.
“Yeah, what the fuck-”
JJ suddenly stopped when he saw the girl from that morning. She was was facing him backwards but it wasn’t difficult for him to recognise her. The feeling of weirdness around him was slowly going away but when she turned around and they both locked eyes with each other, it completely went away.
“Hi again.” She said with a smile.
“Hi.” That’s all JJ could say. The déjà vu went away but the weird feeling was still there, the feeling of something else going on.
“This is weird.” She said softly without breaking the eye contact with him. She was still wondering what was happening to her. It wasn’t common and the fact that the both the times it happened, the blonde guy was there.
“Weird in a good way or a bad way?” JJ asked.
“Still trying to figure out.” She nodded looking around for her best friend. “Uhm, I lost my friend. See ya.” She gave him a little wave before walking away and leaving JJ there, with questions on his mind.
Tumblr media
“I mean! You have to be honest with yourself! It happened to you two times today and the blonde guy was there. Coincidence? I don’t think so.” Her friend said while she was looking for something to wear to the party on her tiny closet.
“That’s some movie shit. I probably have low iron or something like that. I’m going to google it.” She said when her back hit the bed.
“I already did.” Her friend said and a little smile escaped her mouth.
“You’re always a step ahead.”
Her best friend joined her on the bed. “It said a lot of things. But what caught my eyes is that maybe, it means that you’re going on the right path in life.”
“What does that mean?” She asked confused before sitting down.
“Think about it! “The right path”? C’mon, it has to be with the blonde guy!”
“Huh? I’m not following you.”
“Y/n! It means that that guy is your right path!”
She furrowed her eyebrows confused and then shook her head. “You seriously need to stop watching romantic movies.”
“The universe wants you two to meet. That’s why you get déjà vus and they stop when you see him. It’s obvious!” She lifted her arms into the air.
“You’re crazy!” She got up from the bed. “Let’s just say that the universe wants me to meet this guy, why?”
“I don’t know. Maybe he’s your soulmate.” She said quickly.
“That’s it.” She said after shaking her head. “You’re binging all the Marvel movies with me. No more romantic ones!”
Tumblr media
She loved the loud music. How her body moved to the rhythm, and the slight air blowing around her body. Parties on the beach was her favorite thing to do on the summer, surrounded by friends and having the best time. Nothing was ever wrong.
She noticed her cup being empty so she waved to her best friend letting her now that she was going to get it refilled.
As soon as she turned around, she locked eyes with an old friend.
“Kie!” She yelled.
Kiara Carrera. Her family owned The Wreck, one of the most famous restaurants for tourists, they both met when she worked for her father on the restaurant as a waitress, but soon having to let it go since it was too much for her and her other job. But on the little time she was there, they both became good friends and loved every single moment they spent together as co-workers.
“How have you been?” She asked once they broke the tight hug.
“I’ve been doing great! Well, at least since summer started.”
Things aren’t going so well at the Kook academy?” Kie shook her head. “Don’t worry, I’m here to save your horrible days.” She let her arm go around her shoulders before leading her to the dance floor where her best friends was.
The three of them were dancing like there was no tomorrow. They looked like three drunk girls since they started to dance weirdly, but the truth was, they were having the time of their lives and not worrying about anyone around them. But when their feet couldn’t anymore, Kie let her arms go around the other girls’ shoulders and walk them to the side of the beach.
“C’mon, I want you two to meet my friends.”
“Please tell me you didn’t meet that at the kook academy.” She said with a disgust expression.
Kie let out a tiny laugh. “Only on my worst nightmare. No, they’re cool.”
While the girls were walking to the where the boys where, JJ and John B were teaching Pope how to roll the perfect blunt.
“No dude!” JJ yelled. “You have to lick it just a little bit! Not lick it until you no longer have saliva in your mouth!”
“Alright! Alright!”
“Now gently roll it with your thumb.” John B said. “I said gently!”
“Not so fast!”
“You want to break it?!”
“Seriously guys, you would be great teachers.” Pope said sarcastically.
“Hey guys!” The three guys heard Kie yelled behind them.
JJ blinked but when he opened his eyes he had the same weird feeling of déjà vu. “Fuck, not again.”
Some guys were yelling because they just won a game of beer pong so she turned around to see where the noise was coming from, but quickly stopped when the same feeling appeared.
“Are you having it again?” Her friend asked. She nodded. “Alright! Come here!” She grabbed her arm and quickly pulled her friend to JJ, who was weirdly looking around like she was.
“Is everything ok?” Kie asked when she saw how the two girls quickly walked to her friends.
The moment JJ and her locked eyes with each other when her friend positioned her in front on him, the déjà vu went away like a spelling breaking.
“Is it gone?” Her friend asked.
She slowly nodded. A little smile appeared on her face while he was confused on why every déjà vu always disappeared when the girl showed up.
“Shit.” She softly said.
“This is Y/n. And you are?” Her friend asked for her.
“JJ.” He said with a smile while shaking her hand.
“Nice to finally meet you.”
“Weirdly, it doesn’t feel like this is the first time I met you.” JJ said and she let out a tiny laugh.
“Oh, this is perfect.” Her friend said softly with a smile on her face while the rest of the pogues were staring at the situation confused.
Maybe her friend was right. Maybe the universe was trying to tell them something. It wanted them to meet. They couldn’t deny it, the fact that they both had the same weird feeling when the other was around couldn’t be coincidental. Maybe, everytime they were around, everytime they touched each other or the looked at each other, it was, in fact, their right path.

Friends to Lovers in Canon Universe
I'll be the light and lead you home (when there's nowhere left to go) by @homebody-nobody and @hmspogue
“Hi, Dad,” he says, his heart pounding, his veins already humming with fight-or-flight adrenaline. He can feel his brain kicking into overdrive as his body is tensing to prepare for whatever comes next. Keep your voice down, his mind reiterates, reciting rules that governed years of his childhood, learned the hard way and necessary for his safety -- for survival. Stay an arms length away, nod and agree, don’t tell him no, respond with “yes sir”, keep your voice down for as long as possible, and get out before the yelling starts at all costs… But, now, in the midst of this frantic inventory, a new rule makes its way into his consciousness. Stay between him and Kiara.
baby, it’s halloween (we can be anything)
JJ tags along with Kie as she goes costume shopping but she leaves the store with much more than she bargained for.
The Haunting of Crowley Manor
After spending the night with JJ, going to Sarah's Halloween party at an abandoned, and allegedly haunted, Kook mansion is not high on Kiara's list of things she wants to be doing. When the Pogues do some exploring, what they find is unsettling at best. Even amidst all the pandemonium, Kiara would really just like to clear the air.
you wanna play with fire (stick and poke tattoo) by @homebody-nobody
'JJ chews on the information she’s given him, tracing his fingers down her arm, over the curve of her elbow and back up to her shoulder. “You’re still gonna go home, right?” He asks, uncertainty and maybe longing in his voice. She realizes, then, that of course she is. Her parents love her, even if they don’t know how to show it, don't understand what the Cut and its inhabitants (and one in particular) mean to her. Of course, she’s going to go home. Because JJ doesn’t get to. Because she still can.
touch me someone by @homebody-nobody
He pulls away from her, and his eyes are wide but dry as his chest heaves. He looks wild, uncaged and raw, the moonlight turning his blond hair white and his blue eyes into pools of silver. Tragedy and shock have destroyed him, the chains he’d wrapped around his brash, heedless, unending want twisted into shards by an explosion of hurt and grief. He has always been the victim, the boy left behind in empty rooms with nothing but loss and bloody fragments, told to piece himself back together. Finally, they’ve taken the last thing. When he told John B they had nothing to lose, they still had each other. And now, he doesn’t even have that. But she’s still here.
A Midsummers Night's Scheme
Kiara really doesn't want to go to Midsummers, and this time it isn't just about the socioeconomics of it all. When she runs into someone she was hoping never to see again, she enlists the help of JJ, who might already be more involved than she would've ever thought.
georgia (georgia, i love your son) by @jiaaras
Two years after Sarah and John B died (or disappeared, if you asked JJ), Kiara and JJ must deal with the return of a familiar face to the Outer Banks.
it was there the whole time
The rest of the pogues notice that JJ and Kiara are hopelessly in love with each other long before they do themselves.
because i'm still in love with you (i wanna see you dance again.)
post season one; John B and Sarah are gone, Pope is M.I.A and Kiara just wants to help JJ stop drinking so much.
lets go surfing by @simpforjiara
everything good happens in the surf
and even when you look away i know you think of me by @hvitstark
The night of graduation Kie worries about the future.
Her Boys *trigger warning character drugged against their will*
Some guy tries to drug Kiara during a kegger at the Boneyard, and her boys ride to the rescue, and then take her home and take beautiful care of her…which leads to a very unique first Jiara kiss.
five times JJ or Kie kissed the other as friends + 1 time they were definitely not friends by @simpforjiara
don't blame me for fallin' (i was just a little boy) by @simpforjiara
JJ Maybank could never just simply care about something, when it came to Kiara it was always too much
Home is Where the Puppy Lives by @tiggerusername
Four months after John B and Sarah disappear, everything in Outer Banks is strange. JJ and Kiara are hardly talking. Pope is hardly around. And storms keep coming. That is until Kiara decides to visit the chateau after work one day and finds a puppy stuck in the destruction of the night outside.
Snapshots Through Time
Just as the title implies, jumps in time depicting moments in JJ and Kiara’s lives. First as friends, then as a couple, and eventually as a family.
Don't overthink it
For the majority of the time she was not even sure she liked JJ as a person.
i don’t wanna be your friend (i wanna kiss your lips)
If she’s being honest, Kiara used to think about kissing JJ all the time. aka the five times kiara thinks about kissing jj, and the one time she finally does it.
I love you, ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?
JJ and Kiara grow closer in the aftermath of what should have been the best summer of their lives.
One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)
After spending a night with Pope, Kie runs to the person she was meant to be with in the first place.
it wasn’t special til i met you by @dayas
kiara never expects teaching jj to braid to matter so much. it does. or, alternatively, the four times kiara lets jj braid her hair and the one time she doesn’t.
every piece of you
Five places that Kie hadn’t expected to be intimate when kissed and one place she does.
if we were meant to be, we would've been by now by @alphinias
five times JJ was jealous, and one time he didn't have to be
and if my wishes came true (it would’ve been you)
the one where jj and kiara go on a road trip together and do a miserable job of pretending they’re not two idiots in love
tell me when you’re falling (can you hear me calling?)
being in love with your best friend makes vacationing pretty inconvenient. luckily for kiara, said best friend will never suspect a thing.
bare necessities by @rae-of-fricking-sunshine
the five times they were unintentionally undressed, and the one time they weren't
better date than never by @alphinias
Kiara is sick of her mom badgering her about the single groomsmen at her cousin's wedding, so obviously, taking JJ as her date is the perfect solution. It won't be complicated. Not at all.
i had a few (got drunk on you)
Kiara is a student at bartender school and JJ is helping her practice (when he isn’t hindering her by drinking all the liquor).
i'll be there 'til the stars don't shine by @maybankiara
in which the pogues throw a kegger, and jj keeps getting distracted by the feelings he might have for one of his closest friends.
What if... (Secrets are dug in the best friends' back yard?) by @tiggerusername
What if JJ and Kiara have been keeping a massive secret from the Pogues? What if JJ and Kiara were a lot closer than anyone had expected during Kiara's Kook year?
Standing On Younger Ground by @usnavisbubbly
If he really thinks about it, he knows it probably just took missing her for an entire year for him to realize that he never wanted to again. Miss her, that is. That shit was brutal. She’s his best friend and he wants her around all the time. It’s just that now, he sometimes wishes it was just them. Like, he’d never want John B and Pope to go away, per se, he just also wants Kie to himself? Or something? It’s confusing.
Bad Timing
the one where the Pogues all had a thing for Kie, all get rejected and JJ eventually finds the right time.
wish you were sober
The Pogues are growing up and following their dreams, which means it's time for JJ and Kiara to sort through some feelings.
around the world
You can take the boy out of the Outer Banks, but you can't take the Outer Banks out of the boy. when it's all calmed down, kiara travels the world. jj's not precisely an unwelcome addition.
drunk off of nothing but of each other until the sunrise (i swear to god it was the best night of my life)
The night before Kie leaves for collage JJ finally makes a move. It's the start and end of something all at once.
friends don’t look at friends that way
anyone observant can see that JJ and Kiara are clearly more than friends.
You Can Get Lost in the Music For Hours, Honey by @anniebibananie
A love story told (predominately) through text messages and a collaborative spotify playlist.
Come Down to the Black Sea Swimming with Me
JJ and Kiara try to deal with the aftermath of John B and Sarah's deaths, and find it easier together.
if this is love, i know it’s true (i won’t forget you)
kiara carrera doesn’t know when she falls in love with jj maybank. she just knows that she does, and there’s nothing she can do about it.
i want to see you stare at ceilings until you fall back asleep
jj and kie have a moment.
(au mid-season before any of that insane police chase stuff went down)

A Smile
JJ Maybank x reader
Warning: Luke being creepy (angst)
Tumblr media
A smile tugged at your lips as you stared at a sleeping JJ, his breathing was soft and slow. He was calm, for the first time in weeks. But then again, he was sleeping.
You brushed his hair off of his forehead, his blonde hair slightly damp, for there was a lack of air conditioning in his house.
After spending the night at a kegger, both of you were too drunk to be rational, JJ knew your parents wouldn’t approve of you drinking, so the only other option was his place. (John B said no)
You were only a new friend to JJ, but as soon as you two met, everything clicked. Your personalities through your banter, and you couldn’t forget about the constant mindless flirting.
Deciding that noon was a good time to wake up, you poked his chest, hoping to wake him up.
“JJ,” you whispered.
He groaned in response, moving his hands over his eyes.
“Aw c’mon! You promised me you would teach me to surf,” you giggled, nudging him again.
“You remember that? We were pretty hammered last night,” he mutters.
You pry his hands away from covering his face, “get up,” you demand.
He slaps your arm, “don’t tell me what to-“ but then he looks at you weirdly, in a shock and confusion, then he lifts up the covers to the bed, looking under.
“What are you doing?” You chuckle, he looked slightly flustered. But quickly calmed down.
“Just..checkin’,” he answers, shortly.
“Checking for what?” you groaned, now stepping out of his surprisingly comfortable bed.
“If we...had sex or not,” JJ replies, nonchalantly.
Your eyes widen, “as if, Maybank,”
He rolls his eyes, then gets up and throws on a boat t-shirt.
You were wearing your top from last night, with a bikini under, it reaked of alchohol and weed.
You pulled at it and sniffed, “Ugh! JJ did you smoke on me or something, this smells like ass,”
“You think ‘I smoked on you’? Girl you crazy, maybe your drunken memory is not so good after all,” JJ shrugs, throwing you one of his clean shirts.
You catch the shirt, “No! No way. I don’t smoke,” you attempt, trying to convince yourself.
JJ laughs quietly, “you did smoke. And didn’t cough once! I’m proud of you babe,”
“You are corrupting me,” you mumble, turning around and pulling off your shirt.
“Damn,” JJ whispers.
You whip your head around at him, he is looking at your chest as you change, thankfully you had a bikini on, but still.
“JJ, f you,” you insult and finish getting dressed.
JJ opens his bedroom door and you walk out, he doesn’t follow you, instead goes into the kitchen.
“Your not gonna walk me out? How rude,” you joke.
“Who do you think I am? A gentleman?” He responds, causing a laugh.
“Not even close,”
“Shit! I think the hose is on!? I gotta go outside and turn it off, see ya later, and meet at the cove for surfing at 6:00,” JJ calls, then jumps out the side door.
You smile at the thought, surfing with the best surfer in the OBX, though you would never tell him that.
You continue to leave, opening the second screen door to the porch. Soon after, you realize you aren’t alone.
You gasp loudly at the figure of a man, he is wearing a tan t-shirt and is turned away, working on something mechanically.
You stumble over a small beer cooler, and land on your butt on the ground.
He turns sharply, his expression seems to be masked. He has a smirk on his face, then he turns off his machine.
He approaches you. You shuffle quickly to your feet again.
“Hello, pretty thing,” he compliments, but it only makes you nervous, “what are you doing here?” He says the last part angerly.
“Um..so sorry to bother you Sir, I was just leaving,” you apologize, then reach for the door.
“Not so fast,” he orders, then approaches you, his steps echoing on the wood floors.
You freeze, not knowing much about JJ’s dad, but being terrified of his vibe.
He reaches towards your face, tracing a finger down your cheek, “pretty girl,” he repeats, moving his finger down your arm, then tugs against your shirt.
“Sir-I really have to..I should. Can you please..stop? Please,” you whimper.
“This is my boy’s shirt. You spent the night, didn’t you. So you come under my roof, and expect to just sneak away like the slut you are!? Huh?! Yeah my boy can fuck you, but he will never love you. So stay the fuck, away bitch,” he yells, his teeth were grinding together, his face inches from yours.
His hand grip your waist harshly, you cry out in pain. Feeling violated. He stares you down.
“We didn’t have se-“ but before you can finish, he has shoved you out the door, not even giving you a final glance before returning to his work.
You didn’t have a car, so you just started to walk. The tears hadn’t came yet, you felt numb. If JJ’s father could say those thing, do those things, was JJ capable. And the things he said, would JJ never love you?
After what felt like hours of walking, you see Kie, she is laughing with John B, they are alone.
Every bone in your body is telling you to hug her, get help in the state you are in. But you felt hopeless, would she see you just as JJs dad did? After all you were still wearing JJs shirt.
Checking your watch, the clock read 5:59. You were suppose to meet JJ by now. No matter how much you wanted it at first, the mere idea of being with JJ right now made you weak in the knees.
So, abandoning everyone, you headed home. Locking yourself in your bedroom for the next day or two.
“Have y’all heard from Y/n? I haven’t seen her in two days,” Kie asks, a worried expression readable on her face.
“She blew me off for surfing the other day,” JJ adds.
“Guys I’m worried, can we go to her house, check on her?” Kie asks.
“Sure, I’m cool with that,” John B approves.
“Didn’t she say not to ever go to her house?” Pope reminds. In the past, you told the pogues to never go to your house, your parents were disapproving of them.
JJ rolls his eyes at Pope, “What’s the worst that could happen?”
JJ knocked one your door for the fifth or sixth time now. Your parents weren’t home, but you were. Trapped in your room, trying to ignore them.
“Maybe she’s not home?” Kie questions.
“Oh she’s home. She just...avoiding us or something,” JJ responds between knocks.
Finally, you roll out of bed.
“Fine! I’m-coming!” You shout. From inside, it hurt your head to yell, but your brushed it off. It was the standing up that was the worst.
You haven’t eaten in a day in a half, you felt weak and light headed.
“See, I told you,” JJ responds.
But as soon as you make it down the stairs, your vision blurs to black, seeing stars.
In seconds, you collapse onto the floor.
A loud thud stops JJs bickering, all of the pogues freeze in worry.
“Y/n?” JJ asks slowly, “y/n are you okay?” He repeats suspiciously.
No answer.
“We’re coming in okay?!” JJ warns, then attempts to open the door, knowing something is off.
The door clicks and pulls back, locked.
“Open the door!” John B demands.
“I’m trying!” JJ exclaims.
Kie grabs JJs arm, “lets go to the back!”
Luckily, the back door slid open with ease, and JJ and Kie rushed inside, instantly seeing you, on the floor.
“Oh my gosh, is she breathing?!” Kie shouts, JJ checks your pulse.
“Somethings wrong!” JJ exclaims, noticing odd details like the fact that you are still wearing his shirt.
“Pope! Call 911!”
“I think she’s breathing!”
“You think? Shit! Come on Y/n, stay with us,”
The hospital monitor beeps slowly. One after another.
JJ and the pogues wait outside. His head is in his hands, recalling a memory.
“You’ll be okay JJ,” Y/n assures, smiling. JJ had just been beaten up. You had brought him to the hospital, despite his protests, it was what he needed.
“Excuse me Miss, what is the name? We’d like to inform his parents,” the nurse asks. JJ’s hand squeezes yours. His eyes communicating something to you he couldn’t say with his words.
“Um, this is James.” You reply.
“Last name?” She asks impatiently.
“Dean.” You reply, she eyes you suspiciously.
“I know. Weird coincidence.” You add.
“A number I can call?” The nurse asks.
Then you gave the nurse your number, later answering the call in a fake old lady voice and telling the hospital that the son James Dean, was okay. Later you even covered the hospital fines. JJ never told you how greatful he was.
The nurse approaches and informs all of the pogues that Y/n was going to be fine. Just fainted due to lack of fluids and food in her body.
After an hour, you were cleared to leave.
Later in the day, JJ forced you to eat a huge burger. It wasn’t that you didn’t want to eat, just that the lingering feeling of wrong was washing over you when you were with JJ, with anyone.
1 day later
You and the rest of the pogues were at the Chateau. You still were acting and feeling off, but no one pointed it out.
JJ went to his house to drop off his surf board, it was taking longer than it should.
But after 20 minutes, JJ approached and entered the Chateau. Shocking everyone.
No one spoke, they could only stare at JJ’s cuts and bruises.
“Wh-what happened?” You feared you knew exactly what happened.
“Nothin’, just ran into my dad,” he shrugged, but his jaw was clenching angerly.
A shiver struck through your spine.
“You’re dad hit you?” You asked, looking around to see if anyone else was shocked by this. They were just solemn.
“Yeah. Sorry my life isn’t a perfect story like yours is Y/n! Sorry I’m fucked up! God you really should look at yourself, the pogue princess act is getting real old,” he insults.
You look at him in pure confusion, why was he talking it out on you. You had enough heartache at the moment.
“What the hell JJ!” Pope shouts.
“This isn’t her fault,” Kie points out. But this only adds to his fury.
“Ohh, this IS her fault. She went and saw my dad, WITHOUT my permission and now he thinks...god I don’t even fucking know. I just know you shouldn’t have done that,” JJ seethes, looking at you with something close to hatred.
Your eyes began to water, his insults seemed to be true, you only ran into his dad, not on purpose.
“JJ- I didn’t... he... I’m sorry! I didn’t mean for this to happen!” You couldn’t form words, you couldn’t stand up for yourself.
“Idiot! You’re such an idiot!” He groans.
John B steps up and grabs JJ by the shirt, “how was she suppose to know about your dad when you didn’t even tell her. Dude, get out. You need to chill out somewhere else,”
JJ scoffs, giving everyone a dirty look before leaving through the front door.
He kicks over something in the lawn.
Stunned, everyone stares at you, you feel small, weak, and horrible for causing JJ to get beaten by his dad.
Instantly, you jump up, following after JJ.
“JJ wait! I ran into him on accident ! It was after I slept over at your place. He was there. He made me,”
“He made you what?” JJ said, a little softer now.
“He made me talk to him, he thought we had sex. That’s why he was mad. I tried to tell him the truth but he....” you stop yourself when your breathing becomes difficult.
“Did he touch you? Y/n, did he? I swear to god if he touched you-“
“No, he didn’t JJ I’m fine, I’m sorry I made him hurt you. I’m sorry,” you apologize, wanting to hug him, but something was restraining you.
“Shit!” He curses, running a hand through his hair.
“I’m really sor-“
“Stop Y/n, just stop. You shouldn’t say sorry. It’s my fault. Come here,” he says, looking like he is about to cry.
You don’t move, you were scared he might touch you like his dad did.
He steps closer, and you step back.
He reads you like a book, “why are you lying to me Y/n?”
“I’m not,” you mumble. He grabs your shoulders gently.
“It’s me Y/n. JJ. I’m not him. I saw what he did to you, we had to go to the hospital for god sakes. So please, tell me the truth. Did he touch you?”
“I’m not lying,” you mutter.
“Jesus, Y/n,” JJ says, he looks at you again, “don’t hide from me, answer my question, did that bastard lay a hand on you?”
“I already feel shitty enough, can you please stop asking me-“
“Y/n. Look me in the eyes and tell me. Did he touch you? Did he hurt my girl,”
You can’t look at him, only able to mumble out a small, “yeah,”
At this, JJ wraps his arm around your figure, you return the hug, only soft cries leaving your lips.

(if you wanna be tagged or removed message me)
JJ never liked his birthday. It was just the weight of the day and the pressure to make it memorable. It was never something he could give himself. He didn’t like to make a big deal about it either. It was easier that way. It’s not that he didn’t appreciate what his friends did for him, he really did.
JJ remembers for his 16th birthday his dad was passed out drunk the whole morning and Pope came and picked him up and they went surfing all day. Later they stayed at John B’s, sang happy birthday, and had brownies, his favorite. He had found out later that Kie and June had baked the brownies themselves. It was the best birthday he had ever had.
JJ’s birthdays were always a fight with his dad. Like a sad yearly tradition that left him more bruised than the day before. The day reminded his dad of his mom and how they weren’t in love anymore and that she left him. That’s JJ, the constant reminder of the shitty world they live in.
His mom left them both. JJ always clarified that. If his dad got to be bitter and drink himself to death, then JJ got to be upset about it. Even just a little.
He hadn’t lived with his dad in a few years, only stopping in once and a while to make sure he wasn’t dead, had paid the bills, and kept food in the fridge. He didn’t deserve it, but not doing it made JJ feel guilty.
JJ had made it clear to his friends that he didn’t want to draw attention to his birthday this year.
“We’re not doing any party shit, okay? I just wanna go surf.” He had said Sunday. No one argued, but Kie did insist they at least go to The Wreck Friday for dessert. They all agreed and would stay over at the chateau to get to the beach the following morning. That was before June stood him up for surfing. And before she said she’d go out with Topper Friday night. Pope seemed to be on her side which was just the icing on his sad, sad birthday cake. He said as such to him when they went surfing Tuesday morning.
“JJ, I am not on anyone’s side. There are no sides.”
“But you knew!” JJ responded, his thoughts were circling in his head.
Pope sighed, “I knew that he sort of asked her out back at that party, but I didn’t know he came into the shop yesterday. and,” he gave JJ a pointed look, “I didn’t know you’d be this upset about June going on a date.”
“I’m not. She can go out with whoever she wants to go out with,” he said matter of factly.
Pope just raised his eyebrows and went back to unloading his car. They hadn’t made it down to the beach yet, JJ too distracted to keep walking.
“It’s just Topper man,” JJ fake shivered.
“Listen, no one’s thrilled about it being him, but we at least owe it to June to act, I don't know, neutral about the situation.”
“Okay, okay,” JJ brushed off his comment.
JJ wanted to say that no one knew if Topper was really June’s soulmate or not, but he knew that he would tell JJ not to be rude and accuse him of being in love with his best friend. Which was not the case here.
“No, I’m serious JJ. Don’t make her feel bad about going out with him. We owe it to her. That and about a million other things.”
JJ let that thought roll over in his mind. He was right. June was the most caring person in the world, she had put them all first every single time.
“Yeah, I know.” He paused, “And what if it’s not him?”
Pope was already walking down the beach, annoyed at how long JJ was taking, “then we fuck his shit up.”
JJ laughed at his abruptness because that’s exactly what he would have said.
The both of them spent the next few hours in the water, but JJ couldn’t stop thinking about what Pope said. And that’s why, the next day, JJ got out of bed before noon and drove to the bait shop around the time June would be getting off. He knew she wouldn’t have driven there, it was too nice of a day. So, he sat in the parking lot and waited.
When she was finally leaving, she used the side door. JJ had to run to catch up with her, startling both himself and June.
“Hey!” he called out.
She froze before turning around, “what’re you doing?” “Can I drive you home?”
She thought about it before agreeing.
“I’m sorry,” JJ began when they had gotten out of the parking lot. She was quiet and very visibly tired.
“The JJ Maybank… apologizing?” So, she was still mad.
“Okay, I deserve that. Go ahead, give it to me.”
June stayed silent in the passenger seat, her head leaning against the window, “No, I just shouldn’t have said anything.”
He gripped the steering wheel tighter, “No, it was shitty of me to be all passive-aggressive about it. It really doesn’t matter who you go out with or who you don’t or if it’s Topper or whoever.”
He looked over at her, bouncing her leg up and down and still leaning against the door.
“Are we okay?” he asks
“Always.” It took a moment for her to look over at him but she smiled. JJ cleared his throat and shifted his eyes back to the road. He already felt better, like he could breathe properly again knowing she wasn’t pissed off at him.
“What’re you humming?” He asks.
Her eyes were closed when she answered, “I don’t know. It’s been stuck in my head all day.” and then she started humming again, louder for JJ to hear.
“Oh, I know that song!” He starts to sing along, filling in the words.
June laughs, “I’ve literally never heard that song. That’s wild.”
“It’s your soulmate?” JJ poses tentatively.
“Yeah, yeah I guess so.” She breathed.
When they parked he asked, “Do you really think it’s Topper?”
June shot him a look instantly. He held his hands up in surrender, “I’m not arguing. Just… curious.”
She sighed a little before speaking, “I don’t know. But I’d hate myself if I didn’t try to find out, ya know?”
JJ just nodded his head, she looked as if she wanted to say more, but stopped herself. June climbed out of the truck and yelled behind her, “See you Friday?”
“Of course,” he yelled back. He watched her close the door behind her before driving off.
JJ didn’t go straight back to the chateau. Instead, he kept driving, the radio at the lowest possible setting, all the windows down until he ended up at his dad’s house. He parked a few houses down and just watched. He wasn’t sure if he was trying to build up the courage to go in, or if he wanted to see his dad come out, or what. He stayed for a while, not thinking about anything specific, just breathing in the cool air and watching.
Sometimes JJ wanted so badly to hate his dad. He desperately tries to erase all traces of familiarity, every last thing about himself that could possibly lead someone to Luke Maybank. He hated him. He hated him for giving JJ his eyes and his rough demeanor. He used to wish to be softer, kinder, more gentle. Someone like Pope or June. Instead, he was steel, dented, and hard to fix.
Sometimes JJ wanted so badly to hate his dad and everything he had done to him, that he couldn’t.
On Friday morning, well Friday afternoon, JJ walked into the living room of an empty chateau. Half asleep, he stumbled into the kitchen and pulled out an empty Eggo waffle box from the freezer. Cool. He then dragged his feet over to the cabinets and pulled out what was left of the coffee grounds and began making a pot. He thought about calling Pope and making him bring some breakfast from his dad’s, but then he saw the note on the counter.
went to get groceries. can’t survive on stale Oreos anymore
John b.
Well, that answered that JJ thought as his stomach growled. Stale Oreos didn’t sound too bad now.
About a half-hour later, he heard someone on the front porch and thought it must be JB back from the store, hands filled with groceries.
He flung open the door, “God, I’m starving. What-” He stopped in his tracks. Standing in front of him was his dad. It felt wrong, having him here. In this place, in this safe space that he and his friends had created. Such evil and anger weren’t welcome.
“What’re you doing here?” JJ said when his mouth finally caught up with his brain.
“Is that any way to greet your father?” Luke spoke as if he was reading from a teleprompter. His words were slow and meaningless, slurred together without a thought behind them.
JJ stayed silent, disgust rising in him.
“Heard you were in the neighborhood.”
“No,” JJ said through gritted teeth, “must’ve been someone else.”
“Don’t lie to me, boy. I’m the one who taught you how.” He was inching closer. He reeked of alcohol and sweat.
“You didn’t teach me anything.” He spits.
“Listen to me you little shit” Luke started, laughing as he lunged forward. It was a dark, empty sound. It made JJ’s ears ring. He closed his eyes for a second and the laugh echoed. It encompassed him, became him. JJ saw every fight, every empty beer bottle, every stack of cash blown away, every sleepless night and it overtook him. He was the product of hatred. He was steel, so scratched and dented and kicked in that not even the best people could fix him.
When JJ opened his eyes, his body hurt and his ears were ringing and he thought his lip was bleeding. He was laying on the porch, propped up against the doorframe. Once he was sure his dad had left, he started to get up. Every thought in his head was replaced by the throbbing of his left side. The more he walked, the more he breathed, the quicker it morphed into anger, “Fuck,” he yelled, “He came here! Here. Here. He was here.” He repeated it over and over until the words had no meaning. He left through the backdoor and ended up at the overlook. His mind was racing, replaying the moments from earlier and every moment prior. JJ didn’t want to cry, didn’t want to be the little kid with the shitfaced dad who forgot his birthday. But he was, so he did. JJ cried until his eyes were puffy and his head hurt and the sun had started setting.
Now, JJ was sitting in John B’s spare room. He crawled in through the window, not wanting to run into anyone if they were home. They were probably trying to call, but his phone was in the living room from this morning. He didn’t want to have to tell them, watch as their eyes scanned over him to assess the damage. He looked around the room that had somehow become his own. There were clothes piled on the floor, a few swimsuits left from the others hanging on the door, and empty beer cans littering the ground. The bed frame was broken, making the whole mattress tilt slightly towards the left.
JJ didn’t know what it was like to call someplace home. He was always hesitant, afraid that someone would just pull the rug out from under his feet and he’d be left falling. He never called his childhood bedroom home, it was a house. With four walls and a shitload of bad memories. He wanted to scream, why did he still let his dad have this control over him? He threw a shoe across the room and stormed out before stopping short in the hallway. He could hear a voice in the living room.
“Kie, it’s fine. I’m not going to be late, I just stopped at the chateau to get changed.”
She paused.
“Because it’s faster than driving all the way back to my house.”
“Okay, see you in five.”
Shit, his birthday dinner. JJ tried to retreat to the room, but he wasn’t fast enough. June had already seen him, “J! I didn’t know anyone was here. Thought you’d be with everyone else by now.”
She was holding onto the door frame with one hand and attempting to pry off her heels with the other. She was wearing a sparkling purple dress that he didn’t recognize and her hair was lazily pulled up on top of her head. A wave of nerves flooded his body, but he suppressed the feeling almost as fast as it happened.
He cleared his throat, “Uh, yeah. I was just leaving. Actually.” He grabbed his keys off the counter. He wasn’t sure if she could see his bruised knuckles from there, but he didn’t want to give her the chance.
“I can drive,” she offered softly, “if you’ll wait five minutes so I can get out of this shit,”
He nodded his head, and slowly sat at the counter, “spare’s open if you want.”
She nodded, heading into the room. JJ took this opportunity to bandage his side in the bathroom. It was already bruised, so he put some aloe vera on before taping it up and changing into a different shirt. Pope had mentioned once that aloe vera can help inflammation. Ever since there’s been a bottle in the first aid kit. He liked the smell, reminded him of summer.
He cleaned the cuts on his hand and his lip like he should have when he first got here. The blood was dry on his face and cleaning it only made the cut reopen. Fuck it, he thought and met June back in the living room.
She had changed into jeans.
“Hey, is this mine?” she asked, pointing to the shirt she was wearing. It was a gray high school track t-shirt, “I forgot to pack one and saw this in the dresser.”
“Must be, I didn’t do track, hell no.”
She laughs before linking her arm through his and leading them to the car. JJ couldn’t help but wonder how her date went. She was in good spirits, better than usual he noticed. He wanted to ask, but he was certain he didn’t want to know the answer. He wanted to tell her about his dad, too, surprisingly. But he knew the face that she’d make as soon as the words were out of his mouth. And that hurt JJ more than the possible broken rib.
When they got to The Wreck, Mr. Carerra waved them to the back where the rest of their friends sat. It felt the most normal JJ had felt in a long time like time resets itself when the five of them sit around a wooden table eating ice cream.
He tried to focus on the conversation, on the light music being played through the restaurant, on the crickets outside, anything to ground him to this moment.
“JJ?” John B asked from across the table.
“Hey,” June said a little louder, hitting his stomach to get his attention. He winced slightly before responding, “huh? Sorry. I was, uh, trying to figure out what song was playing.”
Pope and Kie share a look before diverting their attention back to John B who repeated his question, “Are you excited to figure out your soulmate?”
“Oh,” JJ laughed, “yeah. Thrilled.”
“Come on, it’s kind of exciting. You’ve gotta admit that.”
“Yeah, I guess.” His eyes scan the table, stopping at each of his friends. Truthfully, he doesn’t want anything to change. He’d trade a soulmate for his friends any day. It’s the only thing that makes sense.
When Kie's dad finally kicks them out of the restaurant, he makes her stay behind to clean the tables. They all offer to help, but to JJ’s excitement she assures them to go ahead and that she'd meet back up with them in a little. Pope and John B hop in the van and start driving away before the rest of them are even in the parking lot, “See you in ten,” Pope yells from the passenger side.
Once June and JJ are in the car, she makes JJ close her eyes.
“Why?” he questioned.
“Just do it.”
“June, I really-”
“Please?”
He huffed and pulled down his hat to cover his eyes. He could hear her moving around next to him.
“Okay, open.” JJ did as he was told and was presented with a soft gift-wrapped present.
“Happy birthday,” she said sweetly. She was facing him, turned sideways in the driver's seat with her head resting on the chair.
“It’s not my birthday yet.” He said, meeting her eyes.
“I wanted to be first.”
“I told you not to get me anything.”
“I don’t care,” she chuckled.
“June,”
“Take the present, you jerk.”
He pulled back the paper revealing a keychain laid on top of some type of clothes. He held it up to get a better look and realized it was a surfboard with “OBX” written on it like from a tacky souvenir shop, “cute.”
She smiled, “now look at that.”
He lifted the crewneck in his lap, it was a light blue color and had stitching near the colors.
Before he could say anything June interrupted, “Found it in that thrift shop by my house the other day.”
“I love it.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes, are you kidding?” He laughed a little, “thank you.”
She smiled again, satisfied with herself before turning forward and starting the car.
JJ messed with the rings on his fingers, examining the bruises that had started to form/
“Hey,” he said.
“Hey,”
“Have you… heard anything else? Like your soulmate, I guess.”
He felt her hesitate beside him, “Ya know what nevermind. It’s okay, you’re pretty sure it’s Topper and you really don’t have to tell me anything. It is totally okay. I was just-”
“Nervous?”
He sighs, “yeah.”
She clears her throat, “it’s not scary. At all. It is weird though, weird as hell. I mean it’s almost like if you weren't paying attention, you’d never even notice.”
She had the same far-off look John B got when he talked about this shit. It made him uneasy.
“But to answer your question, I’ve only heard it a few times.”
He nodded his head and mulled over what she said.
When he opened the door to the chateau, he was met by everyone standing in the living room, “happy birthday!”
“You distracted me!” He yelled at June shutting the door.
“It was my job!” she yelled back, “I had to give them time.”
He was laughing at everyone’s stupid party hats and the tray of brownies with sloppy “happy bday J” iced on top with a single lit candle. He made a show of blowing it out and pulled the others into a hug. He pretended to be annoyed at the effort, but deep down he had been so excited.
Later, he tried to etch it into his mind. He wanted to remember tonight as the best birthday he had ever had. He smiled as he fell asleep on a mattress that didn’t tilt to the left anymore in a room that he had made his home.

Summary: Outer Banks’ famous flirt, unnoticeably falls in love with his workplace’s introverted girl.
A/N: Anonymous asked:  Hi!! I'd like to request an imagine where JJ falls in love with an introverted girl, shy and lowkey - so basically she is his opposite, and he realizes that the way he usually flirts with girls wont work in this case... but she falls for him eventually and they get together. Just some cute fluff. 💕
Here it is anon, I hope you enjoy this imagine, thank you for requesting it. I don’t know if it’s something you asked for, but I tried my best. Please write to me if you would make any changes.🥰 *REQUESTS ARE OPEN, JUST GO TO ASK ANNIKA*
---
It was another, of JJ’s least favorite days. The sun was work-class’ biggest challenge, but they couldn’t go against anything because the money that needed to go to their families can’t wait for lazy people. And JJ, being JJ, pushed by his father to bring home some money so he could drink them or smoke them away,  was sent to one of Outer Banks’ most favorite flower gardens, to lift bags of fertilizers and soils.
His whole body was shaking since he hadn’t eaten for days now. But the boss was there and observing the work they’re doing. He wasn’t any type of Kook, maybe somewhere in the middle, but he gave small jobs to people who needed a bit of money for living a day or two. But for JJ, everyone who gave jobs to other, was a Kook.
He thought his whole life ended, since he had carried more than 50 bags of soil and fertilizers. That was it for JJ; giving up was the only way he’ll stay alive and continue with living his normal teenage life, careless and free. But when he thought about the pain of his dad’s fists against his young body, it hurt less than the lack of air he got while working.
Until, she walked in. Hair falling off her shoulders, as she tied it in a messy bun. Her smile grew bigger, at the man stood behind JJ. She politely greeted the older workers, wishing them an easy work, and hugging JJ’s boss. Their smiles and eyes were the same, and it wouldn’t be hard for anyone to realize that they’re related. But she was then, gone behind the amounts of trees and flowers. And JJ didn’t even notice it; he was caught stunned in a second and didn’t even realize she wasn’t there. Regret heated his brain and he had nothing to do in the moment to find her and at least ask the girl for her name.
-JJ! -someone yelled his name. He turned around to find his boss, gesturing him to come over. He shook off the dust from his hands and jogged over. -Can you please, carry the flowerpots to the center of the flower garden please?
-Sure, of course Mr. Y/L/N. -said JJ, immediately getting to work. As he approached, what JJ supposed was the center of the flower garden, he heard a few quiet mumbles. But as he approached it more, they turned into clear sentences. He stopped in his tracks, to take a peek behind the big tree.
-You should be strong, really, really strong. So kids could love and cherish you, every day they play in their gardens. And you also need to stand tall for them; and their families will be motivated to continue life, even with the amounts of difficulties they go through.
JJ was stood there, taking in ever word that came out of her mouth. And was more surprised that they came out of the girl that took his whole heart in just first sight. She was full on, having conversations with the flowers.
-Y/N! Y/N! -many kids came running to her and surrounding her on the beanbags.
-Hi, little sweet peas. -she greeted them.
-We want you to teach us about meaning of the Forget Me Nots flower, pretty please. -the little one put his hands together and pouted at her.
-Okay, I will. -she smiled at them and all their concentration was on her, -Hmm...the flower has powers, to protect humans from witches, for example  symbolizing luck and protection. It means true love, and if you give this flower, to someone you love it means you respect them. It’s a promise to the other person, that you’ll never forget them. Being truthful to them and expressing the long-lasting connection that’ll never be shaken.
-Thank you Y/N, I’ll give it to my mum. -said one of them and they all happily separated around the flower garden.
For JJ who was still stood with the flowerpots behind the tree, felt a different excitement, something he had never felt before. This feeling was strange and foreign, and he knew it wasn’t going to be that easy for him to get closer to her. She was nothing like those Tourons who were easy-minded to get closer to; rather she was as precious as a flower.
And not only was it strange for him to feel something, for a person that’s not really his type, but also suddenly questioned why he softened at her view and how she didn’t reject the kids from telling them, about the beautiful meaning behind a beautiful flower. JJ collected the strength, and showed up in her view. Her shyness could be read in her eyes, and her cheeks immediately bloomed into a shade of pink. She continued with taking care of the flowers, and JJ spun around to see where to put the flowerpots.
-Sorry, -he said, catching her attention, -where do I put these?
-Uh---she rubbed the back of her head, -put them beside the counter.
-Thank you...-JJ gave her a smile and did as told.
-----
-How was work? -John B asked, placing two plates on the table for him and JJ. JJ, being hungry, he dived into the food his friend made filling his mouth with big bites. -Slow down champion, there’s enough food.
-It was the best work day I’ve had in my life so far.
-Something different happened today, or did they give you more money?
-That and something way, way different. -JJ talked with his mouth full.
-What’s up?
-There was a girl; the little kids she tutored on flowers said her name, but I couldn’t make it out from their little baby voices. John B----she was the most precious thing I’ve laid my eyes on. She was like this---magician, that suddenly made everything many times better and lighter in the flower garden. You should’ve seen, how the kids took in everything she taught them. It was breathtaking.
-Did you talk to her or something?
-I just asked her where to place the flowerpots.
-That’s it? -John B made and unimpressed face.
-What, bro? I didn’t know how to approach her.
-You? JJ? Maybank? Didn’t know how to approach a girl? Unbelievable. Dude, you’re the biggest flirt on this island, approaching a girl is a piece of cake for you.
-Well, see, it wasn’t. She’s different. Different from the ones I flirt with. You can tell, by just the look in her eyes, dude. That princess isn’t just blankly titled with the word; she really is one.
-Woooow, JJ Maybank fell in love with a completely opposite girl of him. I could see it and not believe it. Love really caught you by the collar bro. -he teased his best friend, -Huh, also, Kie’s coming over with Sarah later; they wanted to introduce us to their very good friend.
-They’re bringing her to the kegger, we have one tonight. -he downed the left over water in his cup and walked to the kitchen to leave his empty plate in the sink.
----
Kie and Sarah got ready together, picking up their friend from her house on their way to the kegger, like decided. She was sat at the back of the car, playing with her fingers. Nervousness had trapped her in a cage and she couldn’t slow down her beating heart. As Kie stated, she wasn’t a kind of person, to freely go to unknown places in crowds with unknown people. And they even hardly persuaded her into meeting the other three boys, of the Pogue group.
John B was talking to Pope; both of them discussing about the minimal number of people that started to attend keggers, while JJ was going in for the drinks of course. Kie stayed with her friend, and Sarah went to collect the boys so they could come and meet her.
-John B. -he said, shaking her hand.
-Y/N, nice to meet you.
-Pope.
-Y/N.
-There’s another one, but he’s---said Sarah, waving at JJ as he came in her sight, -coming here, right now.
-This is JJ. -said Kie, introducing the blonde to Y/N. From the second his eyes recognized her face, they slightly widened and he got that same excitement as earlier. It was because of the same girl he saw at the flower garden and talked to John B about, The girl that rearranged his entire system.
-Y/N. -she said shaking the bemused boy’s hand.
-JJ. -he held a  longer grip of her hand.
The whole night, JJ didn’t even look at another girl; his eyes were glued to her shy figure. She didn’t have those famous red, plastic cups in her hand like the other two girls and she talked less than them. It was too obvious Y/N wasn’t used to these kinds of gatherings. The looks and glares she got sometimes, seemed to make her too uncomfortable, so from time to time she scooted closer to the group, as if she’s hiding.
-...and then Sarah and I somehow, decided to get matching everything, themed, are you ready?....dolphins...the theme was dolphins and I couldn’t be more happy about it. -said Kie.
-JJ. -Pope nudged him, -JJ. JJ.JJ.
-Yes. -he snapped out of his thoughts.
-What yes bro, I didn’t even ask you a question? -Pope laughed following his gaze to see what he’s looking at, as his eyes land on the quiet girl opposite him.
And many more days like the kegger passed by. The Pogues got to know Y/N a bit more, and she seemed to get comfortable around them. She did wood figurines with John B, talked science with Pope, went shopping with Kie and Sarah and got the new taste of the outside world better, and it definitely felt way more fun to her to be able to have an activity outside her room or the flower garden.
All of them were so welcoming and she appreciated the time spent with them, but if she was to choose, who made her the happiest, it would be that blonde that she saw every day at the flower garden. They went surfing together, got ice cream; JJ attended her flower teaching classes; Y/N helped him with work, they made food together, caught fish and many many more activities. He helped her fight the shyness away and was more than happy to have a friend like him.
But, that ‘friend’ started to slowly leave her, when she unnoticeably stared at him for way too long, or would wait for his text so she could peacefully go to sleep. She felt so happy next to him and somehow always wanted to spend more time with JJ.
-Y/N! You need to come to the Chateau like right now, JJ got into a huge fight with some Kooks, his whole face is bleeding, we literally soaked three cloths in blood till now. Please come, he keeps saying your name. -Kie shouted from the other side of the phone.
Panicked Y/N barely tied her shoes, trying to get to the Chateau as fast as possible. It was nighttime and she didn’t care about the lack of people on the streets; the only thing she had in mind was helping hurt JJ. She entered the Chateau and fairy lights lit up the whole place. On the ground, there was a white carpet on leading to the house and a flower. She immediately knew what flower it was and when she lifted up to read the note; her eye catching another flower not too far away, then another one and another one, she collected a lot of notes and a whole bouquet of forget me nots. The notes were:
“YOU”
“ARE”
“THE”
“ONLY”
“FLOWER”
“THAT”
“MAKES”
“THE”
“BOUQUET”
“IN”
“MY”
“HEART”
“STAY”
“ALIVE”
She came closer to JJ, him holding the last note and the flower. Y/N took it from the flower and opened it to reveal more writing than the other notes. JJ on the other hand, wasnt in his every day clothes; he tried his best to be elegant but with his own style.
“I never saw this coming, but definitely looked forward to it after. Y/N, you’re the most insanely unique girl I’ve laid my eyes on. Would you let us both, complete this bouquet?”
Y/N looked up at JJ with her nervous look and it took her only a second to nod with her head in agreement. She loved him and he loved her and if she was to let her shyness get in way, then it meant her pushing her love away. His worried expression softened and he slowly stepped closer to her and passionately placed a kiss to her lips. The other Pogues got out and cheered for Y/N and JJ.
-New love is born Poguies! -shouted Kie.
-Yeah baby! -Sarah jumped, -Let it be love!
-I say the same thing. -JJ said to Y/N and cuddled her on his chest.
After all, Y/N changed JJ and JJ changed Y/N, both of them becoming each others most love persons and it was enough for them to be together. That Forget Me Nots bouquet was safely placed and taken care of in their hearts.

Invisible  Part 2
Tumblr media
Hello! Here is Part 2! If I forgot to tag anyone let me know and if you’d like to be tagged let me know!
Summary:  You were always quiet and shy, until you lost your mother who always encouraged you to put yourself out there. So you do and you’ve caught the eyes of two Pogues
Word Count: 2.6k
Warnings: Again just some light cursing.
Part 2
“So how did it go? Did you make out with any boys?”
“Uh... nope.” You said as your stared down your plate of food your sister made you.
“You’re lying! You totally did.” Your sister grinned as she nugded you.
“Look can we talk about this later? It’s late and I just want to finish this food so I can go to sleep. I have plans tomorrow.”
“With the boy you made out with?” She wiggled her eyebrows at you suggestively.
“Yes and no.” You mumbled as you shoved a fork full of food into your mouth.
“I need deets!” She squealed as she hugged you.
“You’re branching out!” You sighed as you tried to get out of her arms.
“Shelby stop it..” You stood up and went to wash your now empty plate.
You let out a loud sigh as you stared up at the ceiling, thinking back to the conversation you had with your sister last night. You were nervous to go, should you go? It was probably a disaster waiting to happen. Yet you got up out of bed to get ready anyway. You grabbed your favorite swimsuit, putting it on before grabbing a pair of shorts and a tank top. You decided to put your hair in a messy bun and call it a day before walking into the kitchen.
“So where are these so called plans?” Your sister asked as she walked in putting her hair up, her The Wreck uniform on.
“The Wreck..” You mumbled as you grabbed a banana to eat on the walk over there.
“So I’ll get to see this boy for myself? Good. Do you want me to drive you?”
“No I’ll just walk.”
“Are you sure? It’s like a 20 minute walk.”
“Okay fine.” You sighed, grabbing the keys for your sister. She grabbed an apple then you both walked out of the house, your sister locking the door behind you. You handed her the keys before getting into the passenger seat.
“So tell me about him.”
“There’s nothing to tell, he’s a friend of Popes and he walked me home and yeah.” You shrugged, looking down as you unpeeled the banana.
“Awe that’s so sweet!” She grinned, you rolled your eyes as you took a bit of your banana. For the rest of the ride she tried her best to get more information out of you but you weren’t budging. One you got to The Wreck you practically jumped out of the passenger seat, slamming the door behind you and quickly walking in. You saw everyone but JJ which made you a bit concerned but you just pushed it to the back of your mind and went to walk over to them, sitting down next to Kiara.
“Hey guys.” You said with a smile as you set your banana peel on a napkin on the table.
“There’s that waitress JJ is obsessed with.” Kiara said as she waved to you. You turned around and saw your sister, sighing as your sister smiled and waved at you.
“Wait you know her?” Pope perked up.
“She’s my sister.” You mumbled, looking over when you noticed JJ was talking to her. You didn’t know why but your chest hurt a little at seeing JJs huge grin and his pretty blue eyes focused on your sister.
“JJ has been flirting with her for ages. She won’t budge though.” Pope glanced at you but you wouldn’t meet his eyes. JJ finally walked over, having a bit of a defeated look on his face but he smiled when his eyes saw you.
“Hey Y/N.” You simply waved, turning back around to look at the rest of the group.
“Dude that waitress is Y/Ns sister.” JJs eyes went wide, grinning a little.
“Shelby? Really? She used to babysit me, she’s great.” He said as he sat down next to you. You simply nodded, looking down at your banana peel.
“Y/N? You okay?” JJ asked, putting a hand on your shoulder.
“I’m just tired.” You smiled at him.
“So what’s the plan for today?” John B asked, looking around.
“We could go surfing?” JJ suggested, his eyes still on your face.
“I don’t surf.” You blurt out, chewing your lip.
“You can chill on the beach with me.” Sarah replied, reaching over to take your hand with a smile.
“Or I can teach you?” JJ interjected.
“Or I could.” That was Pope.
“Honestly no offense Pope but it might be better if JJ taught her.” That was John B.
“Uhm, I’ll just chill on the beach with Sarah and if I decide to learn how to surf I’ll let one of you two know.” You smiled, looking at Pope then at JJ. After you all figured out the plan you stopped to say goodbye to your sister before you all went to the Chateau to grab their surf boards. You sat in the back of the van, fiddling with your bracelet. You felt a bit claustrophobic and your mind kept going back to the way JJ looked at your sister, it was the way he looked at you right before he kissed you.
“Are you okay Y/N?” Pope asked, looking at you with concern.
“I’m okay yeah, just a little anxious ya know? Feeling claustrophobic. Six people in this tiny van.”
“You want to walk the rest of the way? We’re only like 5 minutes away, I can walk with you.” That was JJ.
“Oh uhm I’ll deal with it.”
“Maybe you could walk yeah that would probably help but you could walk with Kie, or Sarah, or me.”
“Why can’t she walk with me Pope? I can protect her if I need too. What’s the problem.”
“No problem. Just don’t need you macking on her.” Pope mumbled that last part.
“Okay guys just stop.” Your anxiety was definitely getting worse.
“I’ll just walk, hey John B!” You called out to him, John B stopping the car.
“I’m gonna get out an walk.” You started to crawl a bit to get to the door of the van but JJ got to the door first and opened it, jumping out and holding his hand out for you.
“Milady.”
“JJ.. really it’s fine.”
“Come on Y/N just let me walk with you.” You sighed, taking his hand and getting out.
“We’ll meet you there amigos!” JJ yelled as he shut the door on Pope, who looked like he was about to get out too. The van started down the road but you could hear Pope yelling something.
You ran your fingers through your hair as you started walking.
“What is it with you and wanting to walk me places?” You scoffed.
“I like your presence, is something wrong with that Princess?” You rolled your eyes.
“Seriously, you’re interested in my sister yet you want to walk me home and kiss me. Like what the hell, do you just want to string me along or something? Because I don’t intend on sleeping with you.” You blurted out, stopping in your place.
“Who said I liked your sister?” He raised an eyebrow, taking a step towards you.
“I mean Kie said you’re obsessed with her.”
“I’m not obsessed with her. I just like talking to her because she was my babysitter.”
“I don’t ever remember that, wasn’t Hollis Craine your babysitter.”
“Yeah until she disappeared.”
You rolled your eyes and decided to keep walking.
“Right well, I told you that kiss was only going to happen one time so.” You said as you tried to walk as fast as possible.
“Y/N come on. Just because I like to talk to your sister that makes me an ass?”
“No it’s the fact that you kissed me, while liking my sister.”
“I had no idea she was your sister.” You definitely felt like that was a lie.
“Can we drop it? Let’s just stay.. friends? I don’t know whatever the hell it is we are, that’s how we will stay. Deal?” You glanced over at him as you continued to walk.
“Fine, friends.” He had a bit of a grin on his face as he said it.
You kept walking, finally seeing the Chateau.
Once you walked up the steps you saw Pope sitting on the porch, he looked at both you and JJ intently. He noticed you didn’t look flustered or like you two had kissed so he wasn’t very upset. After everyone grabbed their surf gear everyone headed to the beach. Everyone but you and Sarah rushed into the water to surf while you two laid on a blanket.
“So how do like hanging out with us so fair?” Sarah asked, smiling at you.
“You guys are cool, very loyal. I love it.” You smiled back at her.
“Well you’re apart of that now. Get used it but I’ve noticed something I just wanted to talk to you about. Pope looks at you like he’s in love with you. JJ looks at you like he likes you. I guess what I wanted to say was, who do you like?”
You sucked in a breath, sitting up as you wiped your hands on your shorts.
“I don’t know how to answer that. I liked Pope like that, last year before my mom died. But he’s Pope and I tried dropping hints but he’s so oblivious. So my feelings sort of disappeared and then I met JJ officially at the party and he was nice and sweet. Then he walked me home and he kissed me, so now I have no idea.” You sighed, putting your head in your hands after your little rant.
“Well Kie and I will help you through. Not everyday you get two Pogues fighting over you.” She teased.
“I don’t want two Pogues fighting over me, I don’t want any Pogues fighting over me.” You sighed as you laid back.
“Well JJ is coming over.” She said quickly which caused you to sit up. You were definitely mesmerized as you stared at his chest, the water droplets sliding down his chest in the most perfect way. What if you just licked-
“Y/N?” Your eyes shot up to JJs face when he called your name, a grin on his face because you were definitely caught.
“Where did Sarah go?” You looked over to see her gone.
“She said she had to use the bathroom or something.” He shrugged, sitting down next to you. Damnit Sarah.
“So did you want me to teach you how to surf?”
“Maybe not today, not feeling it.” You shrugged, moving a stray hair behind your ear.
“So are you interested in Pope?” Why the fuck would he ask that?
“I’m sorry what?” You turned to look him, noticing that his jaw was clenched.
“Do you like him? Because if you do you should probably tell him.”
“Do you think I do?”
“I don’t know. Which is why I asked.”
“I am not having this conversation with you JJ.”
“And why not?” You scoffed at that.
“It’s not your damn business! You kissed me, once. That doesn’t mean you get to know my personal life. Got it?” You saw his jaw clench again. He suddenly leaned over and kissed you again, it was soft and almost a little desperate.
“Got it.” He said as he pulled away and stood up, grabbing his board and going back into the water without another word. You stared as his disappearing back with wide eyes.
“Y/N! Did you pick JJ?” Sarah asked as she sat back down.
“Why the hell did you leave?” You looked back at her, eyes still wide.
“I thought you could have some alone time.”
“I don’t want-“
“Pope! Hey!” Your head snapped over to where Pope was.
“Hey Sarah, John B wanted you.” He pointed to where John B was standing by the shore. Sarah ran off, leaving you alone with Pope.
“Hi Pope.” You mumbled, playing with your bracelet again.
“Do you want to go on a date with me?” He blurted out, when your head snapped over to look at him you could tell he looked extremely nervous.
“Oh wow...” You swallowed as you looked out to the water, barely seeing JJ and Kie splashing each other.
“You know what, yeah okay I’ll go on a date with you.” You smiled at him.
“Great! Tomorrow night?”
“Tomorrow night.” You agreed. He suddenly leaned over and kissed you quickly on the lips before running back into the water. Will boys stop kissing me?! You let out a groan as you laid back, looking up at the sky. How did you get here? How did you get from only having one friend to having six. From having no boys liking you to have two?
The rest of the day passed by with no more incidents, you got offers again to be walked home but this time you let Kie do it.
“So Pope asked you on a date?”
“Yeah he did.” You looked over at her.
“Should I have said no?”
“Well no.. I guess not.” She shrugged.
“Just make sure that you really want to be with him okay? Because I can tell he really likes you, but I can tell JJ likes you too.” You simply nodded, continuing to walk.
“I don’t know. I need this date to help clarify everything ya know?”
“Yeah I get it but the second you realize you might not like him you should tell him okay?” You nodded at that, smiling at her when you got to your house.
“Thanks for walking me home and for the advice.”
“Of course, us girls have to stick together. I’ll see you later okay?” You smiled at that.
“See ya!” You turned to unlock the door, walking in and seeing your sister cooking. The moment you saw her you knew you needed to know what was going on between her and JJ.
“Hey Shelby.”
“Hey kiddo how was your day?” She looked over as she stirred some noddles.
“It was fine but I had a question.”
“Shoot.”
“How do you know JJ and why does he talk to you a lot?” The made her freeze up, looking back to her noodles.
“Let’s not talk about this right now.”
“No lets. I want to know.”
“Why do you care Y/N?”
“Because he’s the one I kissed!” She froze again, removing the noodles from the burner and turning the stove off. She sighed and walked over to you, putting a hand on your cheek.
“I need you to not be in a relationship with that boy do you hear me?”
“What? Why do you care? Are you screwing him or something?”
“Really Y/N? No!”
“Then what is going on?!” Your sister sighed again.
“You are so damn stubborn. Okay so I used to babysit him when I was like 19 or 20 and this sweet little boy liked a girl. A girl who was also very sweet, but you were shy and I knew you wouldn’t know what to do. So I told him that you weren’t interested. Then I started working at the Wreck and the older he got the more he wanted to get to know you. I didn’t think he was your type. I thought you liked Pope. So I told him you weren’t interested. Then today he comes to me saying you two kissed and that obviously you liked him. I told him to back off because you had been through too much.” What?
“Wait so you’re telling me.. that JJ Maybank.. has been liking me.. for 5 years? Is that what you’re fucking telling me?”
“Yes.”

Choose Your Own Adventure: Pogue Style
summary: you and your brothers are tasked with looking after your baby cousin when things quickly go south. where will you choose to look for your cousin, and who will you run into?
pairing: reader x ?
word count: 1,089
beta’d by: @thatjohnd and @shawnssongs (thank you both so much!!) they’re both absolutely wonderful people and you should check our their writing!
The Dock The Kitchen
a/n: so this is something new i’m trying out. my indecisiveness couldn’t decide who to pair reader with so i just decided i would write four different versions and turn this into a sort of choose your own adventure fic. basically, at the end (once i’ve written the different versions and linked them) you pick a location which will link to a different pogue’s fic. i’ll link the fics up here but also at the end. i am so excited for this, and i hope y’all are too!
Tumblr media
Being the youngest of three children, you didn’t really have any experience when it came to like... looking after kids. It wasn’t like there was any occasion for there to even be kids for you to look after. That is, until your dad’s younger brother got married and had kids of his own. And then suddenly you were like an older sibling. You were always looking after your younger cousins when they came to visit or when you went down to Florida to spend a couple weeks with your dad’s family. Out of all of your little cousins though, you had an especially soft spot for Jaime, the baby. Everyone doted on him, but he was like your baby so you would keep a close eye on him whenever he was around.
This year, his parents were celebrating a milestone anniversary, and therefore needed someone to look after the kids while they went on some cruise or something. Most of them would be at various summer camps anyway, so when they called up your parents, they assured you all that you would only be looking after Jaime. And to you and your brothers’ credit, all three of you took looking after Jaime very seriously. Most of the time, when your parents were working in the restaurant, y’all would have to take care of him. Feed him, change him, bathe him, entertain him. And you were happy to do it.
So when your parents told you, right as you and your brothers were heading out to surf, that they needed you to look after your cousin, the plans for the day were changed with only slight disappointment.
“I’m telling you right now you’re a hazard to children everywhere,” Christian snapped at Diego in the passenger seat.
“Wh-- kids fuckin’ love me.”
You rolled your eyes at him as you covered your cousin’s little ears. At six years old, he delighted in repeating everything you and your brothers said, and if you were being honest, the three of you rarely had any filters.
“There is no way in hell that your idea of letting Jaime sit on your surfboard would end up in anything but catastrophe!”
“I mean, it worked in Lilo and Stitch,” you said.
“See? y/n is on my side,” Diego smirked.
“They’re pointing out an example from an animated movie, dumbass. Bringing him to the country club to make fun of all the white golfers is much more child friendly,” Christian told him.
“Are we teaching him to be a bully though?” you asked.
“No, because golfers deserve to be bullied, just facts.”
“...That checks out.”
Jaime laughed when you made a face at him and wrinkled his nose as he attempted to touch it with his tongue. You ruffled his hair and grinned. Cute kids were your biggest weakness, not that you would let anyone know that. You and your brothers tended to keep to yourselves, which was only getting harder now that both of them were in college. You found yourself in a tentative friendship with Kiara Carrera, another outside at the “Kook Academy” as you liked to call your school. The two of you only really hung out at school, although you would occasionally text each other or wave when you saw each other around the island. You were pretty sure her friends didn’t like you though. So you tried to stay out of their hair, never pressing Kie to hang out with you when you knew she would rather be with her boys. It could get pretty lonely, especially during the school year when you didn’t have your brothers to keep you company, but you dealt with it. Better than trying to hang out with anyone else who lived in the figure eight, and anyone from the Cut automatically assumed you were like the rest of the Kooks. You couldn’t really blame them.
“Yo, is that Kie’s van?” Diego asked, stirring you from your thoughts.
You looked out the window as Christian parked to see the beat up Volkswagen Kie and her group drove around in. You smiled at the ‘eat the rich’ sticker on the back. While you hadn’t seen her in over a week, she’d texted you last night to tell you about something stupid JJ had done at John B’s place and how Pope was this close to actually smoking one of JJ’s joints. As much as you told yourself you were fine being alone, and as much as you knew the Pogues weren’t fond of you, you still couldn’t help but want to be a part of their group. At least just a little bit. And it had absolutely nothing to do with the fact you had a tiny crush on one of the Pogues. None at all.
“Shit guys, I gotta pee real quick,” you told them as you stopped and put Jaime down. “I’ll only be like a second.”
Your brothers waved you off, and so you ran into the nearest bathroom while they waited with your cousin. You always forgot how fucking nice everything was at the country club, and the bathrooms were no exception. There were little cups for mouthwash, as if that was something absolutely needed, but you had to admit it was kinda tempting. Like, it was provided for you, so why wouldn’t you use it? And now you realized why everyone on the Cut thought Kooks were pretentious, entitled assholes. You kind of were with your fancy bathrooms and mouthwash.
“Hey guys,” you greeted as you left the bathroom. “Sorry I took so long, I got distracted by the mouthwa-- where’s Jaime?”
Christian and Diego looked up from their phones in a panic to see your baby cousin wasn’t with them. Diego even looked at his empty hand as if he couldn’t believe he didn’t notice Jaime’s wasn’t holding it.
“What. The. Fuck. I left you guys for like two minutes max!”
“He’s a small child! They can slip away easily!” Diego argued, his voice cracking in distress. “He couldn’t have gotten far! He’s like three feet tall! His legs can’t cover much ground!”
“Just fucking split up!” Christian snapped.
You immediately bolted, thinking of the different places he could go. There was the dock because he loved boats, or the kitchen because he loved food, or the veranda because he liked looking at the pretty birds, or the computer lounge because he had discovered Club Penguin. Where would he be?

Dragonfly - Chapter 2
JJ x female!reader fic
Summary: Your first day working at the wreck is cut short when there’s a hurricane, causing issues later on.
Word count: 2.3k (slightly longer than I planned whoops)
Warnings: swearing, absolutely awful writing
Catch up: Chapter 1
Tumblr media
A/N: Rip to actually writing well, but I was stuck on how to do this chapter for a while because I want to get to the others which I’ve kinda planned - still not sure how many chapters this will be tho as I need to decide on how I want to end it. Feedback is appreciated like normal :)
When you woke up that morning, all your muscles ached, hours of surfing generally did that to you, but you were always happy to pay the price as it was always worth it. You stayed in bed, completely zoned out for a while before you realised you should probably get up and have a shower so you were presentable for your first shift at the Wreck, hopefully giving a good first impression.
After getting in the shower, you got dressed into some jeans and a plain black top, put on some mascara and made your way to the kitchen to have a coffee before you got going.
Your dad was at the table eating some toast when you walked in, you said a quick hello before heading over to the kettle, putting it on, and searching for a travel mug.
You had found one just as your dad spoke up from the table, “you have work today right?”
“Yeh but only a short shift, why?”
“Oh on the radio this morning it said there’s gonna be a hurricane tonight, and I want you home, not only so you’re safe but so you can help me keep this place together.”
You smiled at him, “Don’t worry, I’ll be home before then and honestly I’m not sure that even with both of us this house will survive it, but I guess we’ll have to see.”
“Yes, I guess we will.” He laughed, he got up from the table, giving you a quick wave as he headed to whatever room he was trying to fix today.
After making your coffee, you grabbed your keys and headed out to your car, your car was a second hand jeep (possibly older, you had no idea) and so wasn’t always the most reliable, but it held a special place in your heart, and until it caught on fire or died completely you refused to get rid of it - no matter how much your dad asked you to.
The drive to the Wreck wasn’t awful, the road you were on showed some nice views of the island, although, the wind was beginning to pick up ahead of the hurricane that according to your dad was a common thing around here - something else you didn’t like about living on this side of the country. But you were going to try and make it work here and look on the bright side as even if you didn’t like it, this was now your home.
You got to the Wreck and were greeted by the owner Mr Carrera, who gave you a name tag and was about to show you around when he got a call, leaving you standing there looking like you were lost. The girl who you saw yesterday, Kiara you think her name is, came over to you to see if you were alright, and once you’d explained that her dad got a call, she decided to show you around instead.
“Okay,” she glanced at your name tag, “Y/N, obviously this isn’t the largest restaurant ever but we get quite a lot of people in here, especially at weekends and whenever there are loads of tourons around.”
“I’m guessing tourons are tourists?” You asked.
“Yes they are, sorry I keep forgetting you’re new around here, you’ll soon find there are names for everything around here - but if you’re ever confused you can always come and ask me.”
This girl was really nice, and pretty, and you kind of wanted to be friends with her, but before you could ask her anything, the first few customers came into the restaurant and she headed over to them, turning back to you with a smile.
Whilst she was busy with that group, a group of boys, who looked to be around your age, came in so you took it upon yourself to serve them, although the looks they gave you put you a little on edge. After giving them a few minutes to decide on what they want to eat, you approached them again, they all looked at you as you began speaking.
“Do you want any drinks?”
“No, but you could give us your name.” One of them said, he was probably the leader of this group, attractive yes, but anyone who doesn’t have good manners automatically is ruined for you.
“It’s Y/N,” you say pointing at your name tag, trying to be nice.
“Well, Y/N, we haven’t seen you before, and I have to admit you’re pretty hot for someone who I assume is a pogue, but that doesn’t mean much”
His other friends laughed at this comment, you didn’t even know what a pogue was so you were unsure of how to react, but the way he said it made it sound like an insult, so you just ignored him.
“Well if you don’t want any drinks, what food can I get for you guys?”
“Just leave us alone to decide” you nodded and just as you began to walk away you heard him mutter under his breath, “pogue bitch.”
What the fuck, you thought, who raises their children to speak like that to others? It had been a while since you’d been involved in customer service and you’d forgotten how shitty people can be. Ignoring the anger you felt, you headed over to Kiara, who had been looking over at you trying to serve them.
“Hey Kiara, what’s a pogue?” You asked.
“Call me Kie, and it’s the name for people who live in the Cut, the guys who you were just talking to are Kooks, they live in Figure 8 which is the ‘rich side’ of the island which means they kind of just look down on anyone who doesn’t have as much money as them.”
“Wow, a proper class divide, how fun.”
She laughed, “Yeah its not great, but some aren’t as bad as them, the main guy there is Rafe Cameron, his family is one of the richest on the island, they pretty much only come here when they really need to get away from their families or if they want to start a fight.”
“Okay, does that mean they’re not here often?”
“More or less, like I said earlier, it’s mainly tourons and pogues who come here.”
You nodded, and then you both headed back to serve people again.
The rest of your shift went by quite quickly, and all without any problems, and soon Mr Carrera said you could go home, he was closing up early anyway because of the hurricane.
Just as you were leaving, Kie caught up with you, stopping you from getting into your car.
“Are you doing anything tomorrow?” She asked
“I don’t think so, why?”
“Usually days after a hurricane me and my friends go out fishing and I think you’d like them, and them you - you don’t have to obviously, I just thought I’d offer.”
“No, I’d love too, thanks.” You smiled at her
“Okay you can meet me here, at like 11?”
“Sounds good.”
You quickly exchanged numbers so you could contact each other if there were any issues, and then you got into your car, beginning the drive home, happy that you were starting to make friends.
It was evening now, and the weather had definitely taken a turn for worse, you weren’t used to weather like this and it made you a little nervous.
Just as you were thinking this, your car made some sputtering noises and slowed to a stop.
“Oh you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
You tried turning the key a few times but it still wouldn’t start - you were too far away to walk home, not that you wanted to leave your car behind anyway in case something happened to it, which left one option. This option was to find someone who might be able to fix it so you could get home.
You picked up your phone, ready to call your dad and tell him what had happened but apparently the weather had already knocked out cell service, so you couldn’t contact anyone, not even a tow.
“Unbelievable.” You muttered, getting out the car and deciding to go to a house nearby instead and ask for their help.
It was only a short walk until you came across a small road going towards a house, you took a breath and made your way towards it, hoping whoever lived here would help you.
The house seemed quiet but there was a beat up VW van outside so you assumed there was someone home, you stepped over some empty beer cans and knocked on the door.
It had been about a minute and just as you began moving, about to head back and try and find another house, you heard the door open behind you.
You turned around only to be met with the attractive face of one of the boys you had met last night, John B if you remembered correctly.
“Y/N right?” You nodded, “um do you need help with something?”
“Yeh my car just broke down and apparently your house is the closest, would you be able to help me?”
“Sure, just let me grab JJ quickly, then you can take us to your car.”
As he walked back into the house, you muttered to yourself, “Oh great, he’s here too.”
You had stood there waiting for a little bit when John B reemerged, JJ next to him, an annoying smirk on his face.
“Hi again.” He said
“Hi - follow me I guess.”
As you began walking back up the dirt path, you heard JJ catch up with you, looking towards him, you saw he was looking at you, an unreadable expression on his face.
“What?” You say, beginning to get uncomfortable under his stare and the silence.
“Nothing - just wondering why you can’t fix your car yourself.”
“Not everyone knows how to fix cars and my dad did once try to teach me but my excuse for getting out of it was because if I ever broke down I’d be able to call him or at least someone for help. But you know the first time it happens is when there’s a fucking hurricane so I have no cell service - and now my dad will never let me live this down so that’s great.”
You heard John B chuckle from behind you, and just as JJ was about to say something in return, your jeep was in sight, and with the wind starting to feel stronger, you picked up the pace.
JJ let out a whistle beside you, you looked at him saying, “that better be an appreciative whistle, my jeep may be old but it is a thing of beauty.”
He held his hands up in defence, “oh absolutely, I would never insult it, but I am a little shocked its never broken down before.”
“I’m going to ignore that.” You gave him a small smile, which he quickly returned before turning back to lift up the cars bonnet.
“I obviously don’t know much about cars but I think the battery could be dead?” You say to the boys, John b looked to you and nodded,
“If that’s the case we’ll just have to jumpstart it, I’ll be right back.” He turned and ran off back towards his house, leaving you and JJ in silence.
You were tapping the side of your car to fill the silence when JJ started talking again, “do you live here with your dad then?”
“Yeh, my mum died recently and he wanted a change of scenery, so it’s just us.”
“Oh I’m sorry.”
You looked up at him, “Thanks, but it’s alright, life doesn’t always go the way you want it to, and hey, I think I’m actually starting to like this place so it’s not all bad.”
“Oh yeah, when there’s not a hurricane involved, this place has its good moments.”
You laughed, and before you could say anything else, John B appeared on the road in his beat up van, jumping out when he got near with some jumper cables.
“This is safe right?” You asked
“Absolutely.” For some reason that answer didn’t comfort you, or it might’ve just been the way the two boys looked at each other before attaching the cables and going to the van.
Once the boys gave you a thumbs up, you turned your key in the ignition again, this time the car actually starting this time, you could hear the boys cheer from where they were standing.
As it was getting later and the wind was getting stronger, you quickly ran over the boys to say your thanks and hugged them, surprising both them and you. Ignoring your out of character show of thanks, you got in your car, waving at them again as you passed and drove home.
The rain had started by the time you got home, and as soon as you pulled into your drive, your dad was out the door, asking where you had been.
“I broke down, but some guys I met the other day helped me, and I still got home so there's no need to worry.”
He kissed your forehead, “Okay lets just get inside, I’ve made some pasta if you want any.”
“Like I would ever turn down pasta,” you laughed, heading to the kitchen, “how was your day?”
“Alright, but right now I’m more interested in the guys who helped you, are they your age?”
“Yeh I think so.”
“Do you think they’re good looking?”
“Ugh dad, I barely know them, and I’m not going to have this conversation with you.”
He just laughed, “that means they are then.”
“Omg, I’m taking my pasta and escaping before this conversation gets worse.”
Your dad was still laughing when you left the kitchen to head to your room, but you had to admit you wouldn’t mind getting to know those guys a little more, especially JJ, but that could be done another day, right now you just wanted to try and sleep through the hurricane and see Kie tomorrow.

Word Count - 4493 Warnings - Underage drinking, smoking, swear words, mentions of some uncomfy sex stuff Synopsis -  The boneyard party is in full bloom when Mera and the Pogues arrive. She makes a startling discovery about her new relationship with the ocean, but her knew friends dance her out of her funk. Back at the Chateau, Mera makes a revelation about her past that dampens the mood. John B tells her that there is an open position at Ward Cameron’s house.  A/N - So, I know this series isn’t as popular as Ocean and Alcohol, but I’m in love with Mera the mermaid and everyone else, so here I am writing more for it. It’s definitely canon divergence, so some things that happen in the show will happen here, but not most of it. If you want to find the full version in one place, this is up on Archive of Our Own under the name “The Girl that had no Heartbeat”! Stay safe, stay healthy, stay groovy!
Stepping onto the boneyard, Mera caught sight of the ocean for the first time since she left it. Hearing the waves crash against the beach sent chills down her spine, but seeing it froze her where she stood. Kiara, whose arm was linked with Mera’s when she stopped, turned back.
“You good?” She asked. Mera couldn’t tear her eyes from the open expanse of the ocean, heart starting to pound, her breathing speeding up. “Mera, it’s alright. You can stay here right here on the beach. You don’t have to go in the water.”
That was good. She didn’t want to go in the ocean. At least, she told herself that she didn’t want to. The roar of the ocean echoed in Mera’s heart. She heard the call of her sisters singing in her ears. Mera’s eyes fluttered shut as she listened to the familiar sound. It drew her forward toward the water, pulling at her stomach, her throat.
When her eyes snapped open, Kiara thought she saw the reflection of a face in Mera’s eyes. She took a step backward, letting go of Mera’s arm. Mera sucked in deep breaths, putting a hand on her chest.
“What the hell was that?” Kiara asked. Mera leaned forward, hoping to get some air into her lungs.
“My sisters,” Mera gasped, flicking her eyes up to meet Kiara’s. “They’re calling me back.”
“What does that mean?”
“If I go in there-” Mera looked up at the ocean, past the boys who had jumped full force into the party. “I don’t think I’ll be coming out.”
Kiara swallowed before stepping back up to Mera and putting a hand on her shoulder.
“Then let’s make sure you never go in the ocean, yeah?”
Mera nodded her head.
“Yeah.”
“Come on. Let’s get you some beer. Get your mind off it all.” Kiara offered her hand. With an attempt at a smile, Mera took it and Kiara led her over to the rest of the party. Still, Mera could hear her sister’s whispering in the back of her mind, egging her toward the water.
It was strange at first, Mera decided. Very few times in her lives had Mera ever felt awkward, but now was definitely one of those times. All of the people she knew already knew everyone else, quickly making small talk, laughing about inside jokes, throwing sand at each other. Mera took small sips of her beer, still unused to the flavor. There had to be something she could do to get her mind off of the ocean call without getting in the way of her friends.
But before she could try, Kiara and JJ grabbed her by the hands, dragging toward a large group of people.
“Come dance!” Kiara said.
“Let loose, princess,” JJ echoed.
“I’ve never danced to this kind of music before.” Mera was hesitant to follow, digging her heels into the sand.
“Just move to the beat,” Kiara told her, putting a hand on Mera’s elbow.
“We’ll show you how.”
“And if anyone gets too close, just push them away.”
Mera was about to protest when they dragged her right into the thick of it. Her heart pounded in an uncomfortable away. Her chest ached, her lungs barely taking in any breath. Kiara stood in front of her, hands already in the air. JJ was behind Mera, one hand on her back to keep her steady.
After a few moments, the music started to drown out the ocean call until she could no longer hear it. A smile broke out on Mera’s face, a weight lifting off her shoulders. She found herself able to mimic Kiara’s movements, swaying her hips in a similar way, moving her hands to the beat.
It wasn’t music Mera was familiar with. There were drums, but they were much louder than she was used to and maybe something that sounded almost like a lute, but not really. She could barely understand the lyrics, but it didn’t really matter. Even with the bodies pressing in around her, Mera found herself laughing along with JJ and Kiara as they moved in sync.
Kiara took Mera’s hands, moving her around, spinning her in circles. It was almost familiar to the partnered dancing she did once upon a time. JJ, feeling left out, ducked between their arms and started to wriggle around like a worm, sending a fit of laughter through Mera.
“You’re ridiculous!” Kiara laughed at JJ, pressing against his shoulder with her hand.
Sweat beaded on the back of Mera’s neck, her legs starting to ache from the constant jumping around. But she didn’t care. She kept dancing. Eventually, JJ and Kiara went to go grab another drink and Mera followed them, not wanting to be alone.
“I haven’t danced like that in a long time,” Mera said, letting out a laugh as she plopped herself into the sand. John B handed her a beer, taking kegger duty for the time being.
“You danced?” JJ asked, sitting beside her. “I thought all old time-y people thought dancing was of the devil.”
“Darling, I was a pirate. I stole things from people for a living. You really think my parents had any issues with dancing?”
“Right, right.” Mera didn’t notice the way the tips of JJ’s ears turned red when she called him ‘darling’.
“How did you dance back then?” Pope asked, sitting on a fallen tree. Mera looked back at him.
“Do you want me to show you?”
“Yes please,” JJ murmured, taking a drink from his beer. Kiara jabbed him in the shoulder with her fingers, to which JJ threw a handful of sand into her beer cup. Mera stood as the two of them bickered between each other, offering a hand to Pope. When he looked at her skeptically, she raised an eyebrow.
“Humor me, Pope,” Mera said. “Let me teach you something for once.”
Under the prospect of learning, Pope decided that maybe dancing with the strange fish-girl wasn’t so bad an idea after all. He took her hand and she pulled him to his feet.
“This was one of my favorites,” Mera said.
She started with the footwork, showing Pope where to go and what to do, declining to tell him that she would be the one leading. When he started to get the hang of it, JJ whistled.
“Looking good there, Heyward,” he said, with a grin. Pope let go of Mera’s hand to strangle JJ, but she pulled him back, repeating the steps again. Once she was confident that he knew it, she turned to the others.
“Clap to this beat, please,” she said.
Mera clapped her hands a few times in the general direction of her friends. They picked it up shortly and Mera and Pope started the dance. It was slow, at first, to get him used to it, but she started to go faster and faster until Pope tripped over his feet. Mera let out a laugh, catching him before he hit the ground.
“That was amazing!” She said, straightening him. “I have never seen someone pick it up so quickly!”
“My turn!” Kiara pushed herself out of the sand. Pope took her place with a grin. JJ bumped his shoulder.
“I’ll teach you a new one,” Mera said, tapping her finger against her chin. “Ah, yes!”
They spent the next few minutes learning the new dance before Mera gave the boys a beat to clap. Pope added a few downbeats to go with it, laughing as Kiara struggled to get her arms and feet to work in sync.
“To the water!” A voice shouted from the large group of kids. Kiara, Pope and John B followed the instructions and took off toward the ocean. When Kiara slipped out of Mera’s hand, she felt like her breath was taken away from her. Mera watched all of the pogues in the ocean, laughing, splashing each other, pulling at each other’s legs from underneath the waves. She suddenly felt very alone.
“They’re safe out there, right?” Mera startled at the sound of JJ’s voice beside her. “None of your people-eating friends will come for them?”
After collecting herself, Mera crossed her arms and shook her head.
“No. They don’t come this close to the shore. Too high a risk.”
“What were you doing so close?” JJ asked her. Mera ran her tongue over her teeth and chuckled, looking at her feet as she buried her toes in the sand. There was no way she was going to tell him that she had come to watch him surf that day. It hadn’t been the first time she saw him, the day she saved him. She knew the boy with the blond hair wouldn’t be able to resist the waves that day, so she had come to watch him. It was a good thing she had.
“I like to play it dangerous,” she said, plucking her cup off of the ground and taking a drink. “Never mattered much to me whether anyone saw me or if I got caught in a net.”
A lie. She had been caught in a net once and it was the most terrifying experience. The feeling of the rope against her skin still haunted her.
“I see.”
“Aren’t you going to go in?” Mera asked, taking another quick drink to drown out the steadily growing ocean call in her head.
“Nah,” JJ said, sitting back down. “I just washed my hair. Don’t want to get it all salty.”
Mera smiled as she lowered herself to the ground beside him. A slower song came from the speaker where the others had been dancing. Mera narrowed her eyes at the sound. It was very different from what she was used to.
“How do you dance to a song this slow?” She asked JJ. “There is no beat for jumping, no way to move your arms or hips.”
“You usually dance with someone for slow songs,” JJ told her.
“Like a partner dance?” Mera’s eyes lit up. Partner dances had always been her favorite. Moving in sync with another person, that connection, was unlike anything else Mera had ever felt.
“Yeah, I guess so,” JJ said with a shrug of his shoulders. Mera scrambled to her feet.
“Will you teach me?”
JJ looked up at her, saw her beaming down at him, and couldn’t say no.
“There really isn’t much to it, princess,” he said, standing slowly. Mera’s smile fell and her breath hitched when he stepped right up to her. She swallowed a lump in her throat and watched JJ do the same.
“I just...you put your hands here-” He lifted her arms and draped them over his shoulders. “And I...I put my hands here.”
Mera felt her stomach flip when he placed his hands on her hips and pulled her in close until their chests were almost touching. The ocean roared in response.
“What now?” She asked, her voice just louder than a whisper.
“You sway, like this.” Mera smiled, chewing on the inside of her cheek, as JJ started to move back and forth. After a few moments, she followed suit. She felt her cheeks grow hot when his thumb grazed her bare skin. Her stomach flipped a thousand more times and she wasn’t sure why.
“This is a very easy partner dance,” Mera said, trying to break away the tension she felt.
“There’s not much to it.”
That connection that Mera had been thinking about when she thought of partner dances was so different from what was happening now. That connection was like a string bringing two people together, tying their lives into one, for a moment relying on someone else. This was different. This was intimate. This was close. Too close.
The song ended and Mera stepped away, dropping her hands and shoving them into her back pockets. She cleared her throat and JJ coughed, looking away from her out toward the ocean. He rubbed his palms against the side of his pants.
For the next few moments, which felt like an eternity, neither of them said anything. That is, until John B ran out of the ocean with Kiara on his back, both of them cackling with laughter. John B fell to the ground, Kiara tumbling off of him. Mera glanced up at JJ briefly, only to meet his eyes before looking back at her friends.
“It’s freezing in there!” Kiara shuddered to prove her point, shoving her hands into the cool sand. “Should we head back?”
Pope came stumbling out of the water, rubbing his arms with his dripping wet hands.
“I just remembered that there are man eating fish out there,” Pope said, walking as if the ground was made of glass.
“Pope,” Kiara hissed, smacking his shin with the back of her hand while nodding her head toward Mera, who found it in herself to give a little laugh.
“Mera, I’m sorry-”
“It’s nothing to worry about,” Mera said with a wave of her hand.
“Let’s get out of here,” John B said, pulling his shirt back on over his head. “I’m frozen solid.”
Mera wasn’t aware they were being accompanied by another girl on their way back home. She had seen her at the party, danced beside her a few times even. She wasn’t sure that she had seen the girl talk to John B even once, yet she was his escort home.
There was only one time Mera had ever been inside a brothel. She had pretended to be one of the girls, hoping to preen information about a slave ship from one of the clients. The girls were sweet, willing to lie for her, to protect her. But the life they lived was one of servitude and Mera had been more than pleased to leave two weeks after she arrived.
Now, she wondered if that was how this girl felt. The longer she looked, the more she realized that that wasn’t the case. While the girls at the brothel had to pretend to want to be there, this girl was shameless in her desire for John B. Mera almost found herself smiling. At least women were free to love to whatever extent they wanted without shame. She just hoped that it meant there were few women being murdered and attacked on the streets.
When John B stopped the van, Kiara, Pope, and JJ hopped out as quickly as they could. Mera followed out, not really wanting to watch her fake cousin in such an intimate place. Walking over to her friends, Mera felt a laugh build up in her throat.
“We’re going to have to put you in a different bed, princess,” JJ said, not hiding his smile.
“I can’t believe you let me sleep in that bed...ever,” she said, quiet giggles coming from her mouth.
“I don’t think there’s a single surface in that house you can sleep on with those two around,” Kiara said, waving her finger between JJ and the house where John B was. A burst of laughter came from Mera as Pope gagged.
“That’s disgusting to think about, Kie,” Pope said, squeezing his eyes shut. “I’m blaming you for putting that thought in my head.”
Mera kept laughing as he pressed his forehead against a tree, rubbing his eyes with his knuckles as if to scrub the image away. JJ stood there, silent but not embarrassed.
“We’re probably going to have to sleep out here,” Kiara said, laughter still making her words shake. “Here, the hammocks are comfortable.”
Kiara crawled into one of the hammocks, JJ hopping in after her. Pope and Mera climbed into the other, shifting around each other and passing sorry’s until they were comfortable.
“I’m not tired,” Pope said.
“No, me neither.” Kiara sat up. “Mera, tell us something about your life.”
“Which life?”
“Either one.”
Mera thought about her life under the surface, how cold she had felt, how cold she had been. She thought of the way her teeth sunk into the necks of hundreds of men, the way she tore the flesh off of people’s bones. She tried to smile, but the thought made her sick. They didn’t want to hear about that. No. They would run from her if they knew just how horrible she had been.
“What do you want to know?”
JJ pulled something out of his pocket, flicking it open, a little flame appeared. Mera startled, sitting straighter.
“Is that...fire?” she asked, scowling at the little thing. JJ nodded.
“It’s a lighter.”
“You carry fire in your pocket?”
JJ stuck something between his teeth, a bit of rolled up paper, his grin lopsided. He brought the flame to the paper, letting the edge burn. Breathing in and then out again, a puff of smoke curled out of JJ’s nose and mouth. Mera’s eyes widened with glee.
“Is that like a...a pipe? But small?” She asked.
“And disposable,” JJ said, handing the piece of paper to Kiara, who took a long breath in. “You wanna try?”
Mera looked at Pope, who shook his head.
“I always keep the signal clear,” he said, tapping two fingers against his temple.
“I am unfamiliar with what a signal is,” Mera said, taking the piece of paper as Kiara offered it. If it was just like a pipe, then Mera knew how to use it. Putting the paper between her lips, she let herself get used to the strange texture, shutting her eyes. She breathed in deeply, feeling the smoke fill her. She let the breath out, puffing the smoke into the warm night air.
Handing the paper pipe back to JJ, Mera felt her nerves begin to relax.
“I have a question for you,” JJ said, propping himself up on his elbow. Mera looked at him with a small smile and narrowed eyes. “Are you a virgin?”
“JJ!” Kiara protested, tapping her toes against JJ’s cheek, who swatted her feet away,
“Kiara, it’s fine,” Mera said with a laugh. “No, JJ, I’m not.”
“Really?” Pope asked from beside her. Mera shrugged.
“I was a pirate with a duty to fulfil,” Mera told him. “And men are very willing to tell a girl anything when she has him in such a compromising position.”
JJ and Pope laughed, but Kiara just stared.
“You said you were 16 when you became a mermaid,” Kiara said. Mera nodded, smiling. “You were sleeping with men for information when you were 16?”
Mera shrugged her shoulders, unbothered.
“I had been doing it for three years before that.”
JJ and Pope stopped laughing.
“That’s fucked,” JJ said.
“Your parents made you do that?” Pope asked. Mera was starting to feel like she shouldn’t have brought it up. Her smile fell and she suddenly felt the weight of their stares.
“They didn’t make me do anything I didn’t want to,” Mera told them. “I did what I had to.”
Mera had never been ashamed of it before. Those in her crew clapped her on the back, told her what an amazing job she was doing. Her mother and father gave her rewards for it. Maybe it made Mera a little sick on the inside, but saving slaves and stealing cargo made it all worth it. It was her life for theirs, right?
But now, with all three pairs of eyes on her, Mera wondered if it was something to feel shame about, to be embarrassed by. She sniffed and looked down at her hands with a small shake of her head. The mood turned sour instantly and Mera couldn’t help but feel that it was her fault.
“I’m sorry,” she said, shaking her head with a little laugh. “I shouldn’t...I shouldn’t have said anything.”
No one spoke and Mera just felt worse and worse until JJ reached his hand out, the paper pipe in his hand. Mera looked up at him and he gave her a twinge of a smile before looking at the thing in his hand. Mera scoffed, feeling a ghost of a smile on her own lips. She took the pipe and put it between her lips, breathing in and out, in and out, in and out, before passing it back to JJ.
“We’ve all got dirt,” JJ said, his fingers grazing over hers as he took it back. “Don’t feel bad about yours.”
It didn’t take long for the sour mood to turn back to something light and airy. Mera clamped her mouth shut for as long as she could, not trying to say anything else to make them uncomfortable.
The sun was starting to peak over the horizon when Mera realized that she was still awake. Pope was asleep beside her, soft snores coming from his mouth. Kie’s eyes were shut, her breathing steady, but Mera wasn’t sure if she was awake or not. It seemed like JJ hadn’t blinked in over an hour, his eyes fixed on the sky above. Mera listened to the water beat against the shore, the wooden dock creaking with the movement of the current. For a moment, she could close her eyes and imagine she was back on her ship, sleeping in her hammock with her bunkmate beside her. The water would kiss the sides of the boat, pounding against it when the waves came. Mera would sleep through it.
The only difference between then and now was back then, Mera couldn’t escape the ocean call wherever she was. Even on land, she heard them calling to her, begging for her to join them. Now, she could only hear it when she was close to the water, as last night had taught her. But she knew a good way to drown it out; music, dance, alcohol, smoke, JJ.
When Mera’s eyes shot open, trying to take back her own thoughts, she realized that the sun was higher in the sky and that she was the only one in the hammocks. Rubbing her eyes, she sat up. JJ and John B were out front, fiddling with some kind of mechanical thing. Pope was sitting on the steps, drinking water through a straw. Kie was nowhere in sight.
Throwing her legs over the side of the hammock, Mera smacked her lips and stretched her arms.
“Welcome to the land of the living, Sleeping Beauty,” John B said with a smile, standing. “Sleep well, cos?”
Mera grunted, brushing her hair out of her eyes.
“I’ll take that as a no.”
“There’s some breakfast on the table,” Pope told Mera as she walked inside.
“Thank you, Pope.”
“He gets a nice, pleasant ‘thank you, Pope’ and I don’t even get a wave?” JJ whined to John B. “Women.”
“Maybe if you stopped asking her about sex and tried to have a normal human conversation with her, she’d be more likely to say ‘hi’ when she wakes up,” Pope suggested, slurping his water loudly. JJ blew a raspberry at him. Mera smiled as she picked a plate off of the table. Peanut butter toast. Mera felt her heart warm.
Walking back outside, she sat beside Pope, munching on her toast.
“Hi, JJ,” she said.
“Hey, princess,” he replied with a smile, turning back to the mechanical object he and John B were working on.
“What is this thing?” Mera asked Pope, setting her plate on her knees.
“It’s a motorcycle,” Pope told her, leaning back on his elbows. “JJ’s dad told him that if he could fix it up, he could keep it.”
“Is it like a car?” It was obviously a stupid question by the way John B and JJ snickered to each other. Mera scowled.
“It’s like a horse, I guess. Except it’s got two wheels and an engine.”
“And instead of carrots, you feed it oil,” John B added, smearing something black across his forehead.
“Ah.” Mera was slowly starting to understand. At least, she thought she was.
“Oh, cos.” John B turned around toward Mera, wiping a metal tool in a rag. “Ward called me this morning. He thinks he might have a job for you.”
Mera’s eyes lit up and she grinned.
“Really?”
“Yeah. It doesn’t sound like fun, but it’s money,” he told her. Mera nodded her head excitedly.
“I’ll do it, whatever it is.”
“See, he’s got this pod of old stuff left behind in people’s houses when he buys them. He likes to keep some of the stuff to sell off later. Says he needs someone to clean everything off, make sure it looks shiny and new,” John B said. “You up for it?”
Mera stood, still grinning.
“Of course!”
“I’ll let him know then,” John B said, pulling his phone out of his pocket and stepping inside the house. Mera couldn’t keep her smile from her face.
“You know what that means, right, Mera?” Pope said.
“I’ll be making money to repay you guys for all you’ve done for me,” Mera said, glancing between Pope and JJ, who was wiping his hands on his shorts. Mera hadn’t realized until just then, but JJ had discarded his shirt, leaving his top bare. She felt her cheeks grow hot and she turned back quickly to Pope.
“It means you have to hang around Rafe Cameron’s house,” Pope told her slowly. Mera shrugged, blowing air through her lips.
“Rafe Cameron doesn’t scare me,” she said, pulling her knees up to her chest.
“Just be careful with him. He has a habit of making the Pogues’ lives a living hell,” Pope told her.
“And he has a thing for hot girls,” JJ added. Mera tilted her head toward him. “You think I’m hot?” she asked. She wasn’t entirely familiar with the term, but from the context she was sure she understood well enough what it meant. It made her smile to see JJ splutter and try to cover for himself.
“Like I said,” Mera said, looking back at Pope. “Rafe has nothing on me. I can handle myself.”
Pope looked at his feet.
“Be careful with him,” Pope said once more. “That boy’s unhinged.”
Mera didn’t have anything to say in response. Maybe he was, but Mera had spent 16 years with people who were supposed to be ‘unhinged’, immoral, the scum of the cities. Sure, the Cameron’s were filthy rich and part of her despised them for it, but she also remembered Denmark Tanny. He was rich beyond belief all because of that shipwreck, yet he was a kind soul, a gentle heart.
Mera knew better than to hate someone for what she saw on the outside. She just wished that she could prove to the Pogues that maybe Rafe wasn’t so bad. She remembered how Rose spoke to Rafe, the way his father seemed to look right over him. Mera wondered what could be beneath the boy’s hard exterior.
“Cos, good news!” John B said, walking out of the house. “Ward wants to meet today if you’re willing.”
Mera guessed she was about to find out.

meant to be a pogue | Mayward
Request:  If you’re still taking prompts- Kook! JJ who falls in love with Pope the first time he every sees him. But Pogues aren’t really keen on kooks so queue jj tryin desperately to get popes attention and time any way he can
Warning: fighting, underage drinking, kook!JJ being awkward, mentions of child abuse
Author’s Note: Welp, this turned out longer than expected but I wanted to give a little background so this happened. The time jumps aren’t my favorite, but the story needed it.
JJ goes to impress some girl. It’s silly really. He doesn’t usually go for the smart ones, but she seems nice enough and he was up for the challenge. It was pretty well known that he was a player and normally the smart ones didn’t go for him either. They were too smart for that, but she’s shown a bit of interest so he figured he might as well go for it.
He honestly didn’t know they had a mathlete team. He normally wouldn’t be caught dead at some event like this, but he was trying to impress her. It was easy really. He went up before it all started, smirk on his lips and shot her a few compliments. She giggles and smiles and twirls her hair a bit and he knows he’ll be fine.
But then the meet starts.
JJ can’t take his eyes off him. This boy - Pope he learns as the meet goes on - answers almost all of the questions for the other team. Actually, he answers almost every question of the meet, basically wiping the floor with the competition.
JJ is impressed. He doesn’t know why. Pope is enchanting though. He rambles a bit with each answer, dragging the meet out a bit longer than it would normally last. He says everything in a tone that doesn’t make you feel stupid and JJ doesn’t even know how. The few questions his team, including the girl he was actually here for, answered made him feel stupid, like he should know these things. Pope didn’t make him feel like that. Pope actually said it in a way that made it easy to understand.
And okay. JJ has never looked at someone and instantly lost his breath or had his heart pound when he heard their voice. It was stupid really, like something described in a movie. It leaves him a bit confused, especially when the girl starts to talk to him after the meet, complaining about Pope in a condescending way that rubs JJ the wrong way.
“Just because he’s smarter than you doesn’t mean you can drag him like that.” JJ has never really had a filter, but his eyes widen at the words and the shock is mirrored on the girl’s face as well. She simply shakes her head and walks away. JJ doesn’t follow her.
--------------------------
JJ finds him at the annual memorial day kegger and he’s had a lot of time to think. It’s been nearly four weeks since he last saw Pope and he’s managed to work through some of his feelings. It was a bit confusing when he realized he was attracted to a guy for the first time, but he did a bit of research, figured some shit out and realized that maybe it wasn’t so bad. He could do this. He just had to be careful about the whole thing.
Pope is sitting by the fire with John B and Kie. The group is well known among the kooks, always causing trouble and stirring shit up. JJ usually stays out of it, but he knows Rafe and some of his goons have beat on the group a few times in the past. JJ is better known for beating on his fellow kooks rather than pogues.
“Hey,” JJ says, because he’s standing in front of him now and he doesn’t know how to flirt with a guy. He’s never flirted with the guy before. “You were really good at the mathlete meet a few weeks ago.” Does complementing work with guys too? Girls loved that kind of shit.
The other looks sceptical and JJ can tell John B is a bit on edge. It wasn’t really normal for kooks and pogues to mix even at parties and he figured it would raise some suspicion, but he hadn’t realized the other’s would be ready for a fight.
“Ah, yeah, thanks man,” Pope replies, frown pulling down his lips as he glances at Kie. JJ recognizes her from a few of his classes. She doesn’t really hang out with anyone at their school.
“I’m JJ,” he introduces. Why the hell was this so hard? He was totally screwing this up.
“Pope.” He takes a sip of his beer, nodding his head toward John B, “This is John B and Kie.”
“You’re in my math class, right?” JJ is trying to find something to talk about with them. He figures relating to Kie is probably the best bet at this point. She at least went to his school.
“Yeah, I think so. You don’t exactly show up to class though.” And that breaks the ice. The four of them are laughing as JJ finds himself sitting in front of them, trying to defend himself, but knowing it is fruitless to do so. He barely shows up to class.
He spends the rest of the kegger with the pogues.
-----------------------------------
JJ finds that he fits in better with the pogues than he ever did with the kooks. The pogues are hesitant to let him hang out, but Kie vouches for him on a few occasions and he finds himself at The Wreck more times in the next few weeks than his whole life.
The pogues are easy to hang out with. They surf, swim and go out on the boat all day when they aren’t working. These are all things the JJ prefers, reasons he doesn’t hang out with many kooks to begin with (because golf is fucking boring). It takes them a long time to actually invite him out on the boat, like it's some sacred pogue thing, but JJ says he’ll bring the beer and food and they finally crack a few weeks later.
It isn’t just easy being around the pogues, but it’s easy being around Pope. The other is funny, kind, and level headed. He is everything the pogues are known for not being. JJ is drawn to him. He always finds himself setting next to him when they grab a bit at The Wreck. He sits next to him on the boat, legs touching and shoulders bumping. He always swims a little closer to Pope, laughs with him more. He doesn’t know if anyone notices, hopes no one does.
He swears he gets a vibe from Pope. The other doesn’t move away, doesn’t say anything when JJ invades his personal space more often than necessary (and yeah, JJ is a little touch starved, but they don’t know that). There have definitely been a few times that Pope has looked at him a little longer than necessary, eyes glancing down at his lips.
But JJ could also just be making all of his up because he wanted it to be true.
-----------------------------------
JJ has never gotten along with Rafe and his goons. There was a short period in junior high when he hung around Topper a bit, but the other always wanted to go to golf lessons and JJ was never interested. After that, JJ was quick to establish himself as a loner kook.
It didn’t mean there weren’t times he didn’t hang out with the others. JJ was always looking for reasons to get out of his house and hanging out with kooks was an easy one even if it was often a lie. The problem was usually that the few times they hung out, it would end with JJ’s fist bloody and aching as he tried to calm himself down.
This is no different.
Rafe is standing in front of them, sneer on his face. JJ is used to his words. The off handed comments about his father always set JJ off and Rafe knows it. He does it on purpose.
But he isn’t talking to JJ today. His eyes are firmly set on John B, “Does someone miss their daddy?” The words are condescending and teasing and JJ sees the way John B’s jaw clenches, seeing his fists tighten and sees his hand punch Rafe in the face.
It immediately starts a brawl as the three on them go at it. The only problem is that JJ doesn’t want his friends involved. He’s dealt with this before, gotten out of many situations where it was three on one, but one look over at Pope, who has just gotten a fist in the jaw, and JJ knows he can’t get out of this so easily. He has to make sure Pope and JB are safe, make sure they’re okay because they’re his friends. He needs to protect his friends.
So he rips Topper off Pope, shoving the other back with as much force as he can manage. Rafe is quick to punch him in the jaw. It knocks him back a few steps, but JJ catches himself, using as much force as possible to connect his fist with Rafe’s face. The other stumbles and lands on the ground and JJ can basically see the steam coming out of his ears as they stare each other down. “You’re just like your old man.” JJ lunges.
He doesn’t know what happens next. He’s seeing red as he punches Rafe over and over again. It isn’t until Pope is behind him, pulling him off, telling him that that is enough before he finally takes in a deep breath, vision settling as he sees the crowd around them. Rafe is on the ground and his goons go to help him up.
“This isn’t over,” Rafe says, blood dripping from his mouth before he turns to walk away, Topper and Kelce each holding an arm.
“Fuck,” JJ groans, fingers moving to his hair as he starts to walk away from the scene. Pope doesn’t say anything, simply follows after him with a grounding hand on his shoulder.
———————————-
JJ shows up with bruises more often than he should. JJ always laughs it off, makes up random excuses that couldn’t be further from the truth. The pogues definitely don’t buy it, but they never push, they respect that JJ has some secrets he isn’t ready to reveal, will probably never reveal.
Until he can’t hide it anymore.
JJ has always liked the ocean. He remembers coming when he was younger, when his mother was still around. She used to hold his hand, teach him how to take deep breaths as the waves lap their feet. It was something he still did to this day.
But he can’t hold himself up today.
The darkness coats the sky, the moon shining off the water. The waves are rougher than usual tonight and JJ is basically soaked at this point, waves crashing against his chest, legs pulled up and arms wrapped around them in an attempt at comforting himself.
“JJ?”
The words startle him, and he is quick to wipe at the tears dripping down his cheeks, frowning when the salt water stings the cuts that litter his face.
JJ takes a moment to clear his throat, taking in a few deep breaths before he answers, making sure he doesn’t look at the other. The group has seen him patched up, but JJ has never shown up with fresh wounds before, ones that are harder to hide as blood runs over tan skin. “Out for a late night surf? The waves are killer tonight.”
“Just needed to get away from my dad for a bit,” Pope answers and JJ can relate, but he’s sure in a totally different way. Pope’s dad always pressures him to do well in school, but he never hits him. JJ’s dad always starts and ends with hitting, coated with a bit of yelling. That was how he put pressure on him. “Why are you here?”
“I’m just going for a late night swim, clear my head,” JJ lies, but it’s really only half a lie. He is here to clear his head, but he hadn’t really planned on it becoming a late night swim. He was probably going to get in trouble for ruining a perfectly good outfit.
“In your clothes?” Pope is standing next to him now, hands in his pockets as he looks out at the horizon. JJ wants to look up, see what his expression is, but he knows he can’t. He can’t risk the other seeing his face.
“It was spur of the moment,” he replies, letting his chin rest against his crossed arms. It’s starting to get a bit cold, causing a chill to travel up his spine. Pope doesn’t seem to notice as he takes a seat next to him, leaning back on his hands.
“It’s peaceful without tourons.” And JJ has never wanted Pope to leave more. Actually, he doesn’t think he’s ever wanted Pope to leave before, but he wants to be alone right now. He wants to wallow in his own misery and forget about his shity life for a second.
But then he is looking up again, his mother’s voice reminding him to just breath and he can’t help the tears that stream down his cheeks, shoulders shaking as he hides his face. He doesn’t know how Pope reacts, doesn’t bother looking up when he feels arms around him, pulling him closer and simply letting him cry.
JJ doesn’t know when they leave. He also doesn’t know where the hell they are. The place is run down and shitty. Pope mentions something about the Chateau, but JJ can’t really place where he is referring too even though he’s heard them talk about it before.
The couch is old, nothing compared to the expensive one he is used to at his house, but this one feels worn, loved, and comforting in a way JJ can only describe as homey, something that his couch will never have. The place is dim and messy and JJ is suddenly thankful for the lighting because there is still blood on his face and purple blotches forming on his skin.
“I’m going to get the first aid kit,” Pope announces and JJ doesn’t even notice Pope’s hand on his shoulder until it is gone. He craves the comfort that it provided, the stability. It helped ground him in a way that only the ocean has been able to for years.
JJ falls back against the couch, a groan leaving his lips at the ache in his side. Pope is in his line of sight again, frown pulling down his lips as he reaches forward. “Do you-?” He’s holding a face cloth, worn and frayed, out for JJ to take.
JJ simply shakes his head, pain shooting through his chin at the motion. He doesn’t even know where to begin with his face and his arms are tired. He’s tired.
Pope simply nods, doesn’t say anything as he presses the cold cloth to his face. JJ flinches at the touch, but doesn’t pull away, lets the other take care of him. He’s thankful when Pope starts to talk, words tumbling out of his lips. He never asks what happened, simply cleans JJ up and lets him fall asleep on the couch.
-----------------------------
JJ blinks his eyes open the next morning, pain shooting through his cheek as he pushes himself up. The room is completely unfamiliar and instantly his heart is pounding as he looks around, trying to figure out where he is. It isn’t until he notices Pope in the corner that he calms down, taking in a deep breath.
“Thank fuck you’re awake,” he hears, eyes flickering back to Pope. The other is leaning back in the chair across the room, looking awkward and uncomfortable as he pushes himself into a better sitting position. He looks worried. “I was fucking getting worried. It’s like noon.”
JJ lets out a sigh as he pushes himself off the couch, eyes glancing around the dinghy place. He isn’t sure where he is, and it must show on his face because Pope is up now, explaining, “This is the Chateau, JB’s place.” JJ feels guilt suddenly as he looks around. He can’t imagine living in a house like this, small and worn. The paint was chipping and the wood looked like it was basically crumbling from years of abuse.
But it looked like a home. And as JJ looks around, noticing pictures of JB and his family and friends, JJ can’t help the jealousy that bubbles. The place he calls home feels more like a prison than anything, the only picture of his family is a portrait that was painted when he was a child. This place was worn, but lived in and loved in a way JJ couldn’t even imagine.
“I have to get home,” JJ says, because he is suddenly overwhelmed. These people have so much less money than him, but they have so much more than he could ever ask for. He would throw all his money away to have this kind of love and friendship in his house rather than the cold blank walls and the cruel touch of his father's hand.
“What? You can stay here. JB won’t mind,” Pope insists, following him out the door. JJ takes a deep breath, sucks it right into his lungs as fast as he can. He has to lean over for a moment, hands on his knees and Pope’s hand suddenly on his shoulder. He finches away from the touch as he looks at the other.
“I have to go,” he repeats but instead of heading to the road he heads towards the water. He nearly collapses on the dock, legs pulled up and fingers running through his hair. Pope doesn’t follow, he’s thankful as he listens to the waves, taking in a breath with each wave that hits the dock. He stays there until his breath evens out and he is able to fully realize how embarrassed he is. He just freaked out for basically no reason.
He wants to just leave, make his way back home, but he doesn’t know where JB lives so he doesn’t know how to get home and his phone is long dead. It doesn’t matter anyway because Pope is sitting on the deck, book in his lap and feet resting on the table in front of the couch. He has a cup of what JJ assumes is coffee steaming on the table and he notices a matching cup next to it.
JJ composes himself as best he can, tugging at his wrinkled shirt and tucking it in. He shakes his head and pulls it back out before he finally steps onto the porch.
It’s another space that is clearly lived in. The couches are old and JJ sinks into the cushion as he takes a seat next to Pope, grabbing the coffee on the table. He’s surprised Pope made it correctly, surprised Pope paid such close attention since he’s only ordered coffee a few times at The Wreck.
“My dad has a mean right jab,” JJ says, voice quiet as he takes a sip of his coffee. It’s hot but he could use the distraction.
“That looks like more than a right jab.” Pope puts the book down, making sure to fold down the corner before he places it on the table. He grabs the coffee as well.
“Nothing I can’t handle,” he shrugs and he doesn’t look at Pope, can’t look at Pope because it’s always pity when people find out. He doesn’t need Pope’s pity, doesn’t want it. He just wants to go back in time, run the other way when the other showed up on the beach.
“But you don’t deserve it.”
The words are new. There are very few people that know about his abuse but none have ever said that, none have said that he doesn’t deserve it.
“I’m a failure.” He can hear his father. “I’m worthless.” He closes his eyes because he doesn’t want to cry, tries to hold the tears back, but they slip out anyway. They slide down his cheek and drip from his chin.
He wants to drop it, to move on from this conversation, has a new topic on the tip of his tongue, but Pope is right in front of him, hand moving tentatively to his cheek. “Why would you say that? You’re not a failure and definitely not worthless.”
JJ tugs his head away, out of Pope’s grip, as he lets out a puff of air through his nose. “Most people would disagree.” His father would disagree and that’s really the only voice that matters because it’s literally been hit into him his whole life.
“JJ,” and JJ finally looks at him, blue meeting brown eyes as he looks into Pope’s. He sucks in a breath as he looks at the other, searching his eyes for any hint of his father's words, but he doesn’t find any. “I’ve only known you a few months and I know you’re not a failure. I know you’d do anything to protect your friends. I know you bring extra food on our boat trips just to make sure JB and I have snacks for the week. I know that you’re loyal and I’ll spend the rest of my life proving to you that you aren’t worthless.”
And Pope is usually a rambler, but those words are crystal clear and they literally take JJ’s breath away. It’s so stupid really, because JJ is completely in love with Pope and the other didn’t even know it. He’s been in love with Pope for so long now and he doesn’t think he can hold it in any longer, not after that.
So JJ leans forward, slow and steady, and lets Pope close that gap. To his relief, he does, pressing his lips to JJ’s, tentative and warm. It isn’t anything like the girls he’s dated in the past (if you can call a few days with the same girl dating). They were soft, needy in a way that JJ never liked. He actually stopped kissing his conquests after a while. Pope was different though, he was slow, but sure, lips firm against JJ’s without being demanding. The fingers on his face have calluses from working, rough against the cut along his jaw.
JJ wants to stay like this forever, drown in the feeling of the other, but he has to pull back, has to get one more thing out before this goes any further. “My dad can’t find out,” he mutters because he knows the man won’t approve, has always made comments. It’s why it had taken JJ so long to even work up the courage to accept he had feelings for a guy nonetheless actually kiss said guy.
“Yeah, okay, we can do that, we can-” and he’s rambling a little, obviously nervous so JJ simply leans forward to connect their lips again, happy when the other finally shifts so he can straddle JJ’s lap.
“Fuck, took you idiots long enough.” The two spring apart at the words, both sets of eyes going to John B, who is currently standing at the top of his stairs, a mischievous smile on his lips. Pope slips off his lap and JJ instantly wants him back. “I mean, don’t stop on my account. I’m just grabbing some food before I head to my next job.”
And they don’t stop. John B is in and out after only a few minutes and JJ instantly finds himself an arm full of Pope as he leans over to connect their lips again.
