Hi there, anonymous beings! My name's Mars. And...I guess that's it? I mean, there's nothing that special about me. I go to Hatchetfield High. I work a booth at the Honey Festival each summer. I get the hot chocolate at Beanie's down the block (it's surprisingly good! but you gotta catch it early before they spit in it). (Ohhhh yea… that’s always not fun—bdjeihwjkd Finch! You bastard! Give the phone back!) Life's good.

I guess. Except for the fact that I've been seeing things lately. I go to the doctor for them and they say I'm in perfect health, "just a strange mind." It's...wacky, to put it lightly. Sometimes I'll see giant eyes staring at me from the ceiling, or I look at my watch and the clock on the wall and they're showing different times. And there are voices, too. They're laughing. Always, always laughing. (Yeahhh they do that a lottttttt it sucks) But...I'm sure that's normal! I'm fine. I just have to get used to it. Right?

Starting with the oldest one

Rosabella Butterfly ~

She is a 25 year old black woman, she is very dramatic and Bisexual and absolutely loves musicals, she works at Miss Retro (depending on the timeline she owns the thing) and she also participate in the starlight theater, sometimes acting sometimes being a voluntear, she seems to nome have a family and doses't talk much about hed past, she is dating li for some time (5 years) and loves them dearly, she also has powers, she can change her appearance and she has used it before, she also has time powers but she never uses them at least not anymore

Dean Li ~

They are a 23 year old chinese heritage non-binary lesbian that uses all pronouns, they are a bit stoic since they have social anxiety and they work as security in the lake side mall (or the ccrp depeding on the show), they are besties with ziggy and also have super powers, control of metals and super strength but she beraly uses her metal powers

Bean Li-Hwang ~

it's a 18 year old chinese-korean girl that is the younger sister/cousin of Li (it's complicated) she is very shy and quiet and kinda of a nerdy prude, she studies at hatchetfield high and likes to hang out with grace chastidy (clearly it isn't a crush or anything) and sometimes works as a nanny for Sheila young and baby-sits sherman (she is very uncomfortable with the situation but money is money and she likes to have it) she also has powers, she can control her voice and make it identical to other or super loud this is why she is super shy

Doyle Drew-

a non-binary white he/they 18 year old that loves misterys and photography, he is kinda angry and emo but is a cinnamoroll on the inside, he studies on hatchetfield high with bean (in the tgwdlm and forever and always timeline he studies in sycamore high) and likes to smoke at the old waylon's place sometimes he also has powers! He can see the future and the past when toutching objects and people, this is why he generaly uses gloves

Shelly Barros -

It's a 13 year old brazilian girl that studies and is best friends with hannah foster (at least shelly thinks they are besties) she is a "exchange student" and loves colors, rainbows and painting she also has powers but absolutely HATES them, she can manipulate, consume other people's fear, she really avoids anything scary so to not see those stuff

Mindy White-

She is a nine year old Brown girl that has intense eyes (one blue and the other being green) she is quite cynical and sarcastic to the standards of a 9 year old, she dosen't have friends her age so Rosabella forces her to hang out with Tim Houston, she also has many powers, most of them unkwon, she has the avarege mind powers and she also can see and talks with webby sometimes, she really likes webby

2023 fic roundup

2023 was the year of the comeback. in 2021, i wrote about 25k; in 2022, i didn't even keep track. meanwhile, my total wordcount last year was 119,226 words. while that doesn't come close to my 200k from 2020, i am arguably prouder of last year and what it represented. my writing isn't dead! my abilities haven't vanished! i can have fun making art again :D

as always, the summer was the most productive for me. you can see that i wrote more in the spring than the fall -- this roughly corresponds to how i was doing during those times, lol. i had a Much Better spring semester than the fall. september was very rough, i had a very bad time, and it meant my mental health suffered for the rest of the year. but hey, at least i was writing essays :')

some more scattered thoughts:

i was arguably pretty consistent this year? may/june/july all had about the same wordcount (roughly) and i think that's cool. my goal isn't to be doing NaNos, it's to be writing consistently, so i'm very happy with this

ao3 says i published 67k in 2023. minus the first chapter of something out of a dream, which was published in 2020, i believe that's 65k or so total. i wrote 72k of fanfic last year, meaning that there's about 8k from last year still sitting in my google drive (a rough eyeball at my WIPs folder confirms this). these numbers don't QUITE make sense to me, since i used a fair bit of old material in what i published last year, but i'm not going to think about it too hard

i published fic for a whopping fifteen fandoms in 2023. nine of those were fandoms i'd never published anything for before! i am so, so proud of this stat. i remain multifandom as all hell and seeing that represented in my work makes me really :D

two fics -- be amazed by the sky and i got your back (and you got mine) -- were crossovers! i'd only ever written one crossover before (stay all day in the sun, which i still love dearly) and it was fun to play in these playgrounds (mostly by sticking the librarians into other universes, xD)

i published 25 fics last year! and five of those fics were less than 1k, which i also really love. this year i really tried to let go of my idea that my fics Had to be more than 4k (and super polished) before they could see the light of day. i think my writing has been more fun and less stressful because of that.

i polished off 4 multi-year WIPs last year: but the verse is sweet, something out of a dream, don't wanna see you go (but it's not forever), and all we can do today. it felt so, so good to finally get those out there. the only one i have left from The Great Hiatus of 2021-2022 is éponine de bergerac. i will finish that someday, but i'm letting her take her time, because she deserves it. (i DID make good progress on that fic, which is something at least!)

most popular fic of the year was sit there in your heartache, which. is a spirk fic written right after a relevant episode, so not a surprise lol. the fic that surprised me most is actually the sisterhood of the travelling main character plotpoints -- i kinda expected that one to vanish quietly, but the hatchetfield fandom is WAY more active than i expected! which is very cool :D

the fic with the fewest hits was sidenote, which doesn't surprise me, since the librarians isn't a very active fandom and it's a rareship within the fandom anyway. the people who DID read it were very sweet, so i am very grateful for them. (i'm doing fic with the fewest hits because i feel like it's better to focus on that than What Didn't Get Kudos)

i started 2024 with 5 WIPs. i actually already finished one (and then immediately started its sequel, whoops) (shoutout to the ds9 modern au, i'll make a real post about that sometime). none of these fics are particularly progressed, but i'll keep working on them and try to find the Finishing A Project Dopamine from ficlets if i need it.

i didn't really have any Writing Goals for 2023 aside from doing any writing at all, lol. i think for 2024 i want to try to get more consistent with my writing -- instead of doing x number of words per month (which usually happen over 3-4 Big Writing Days), i'd rather try to write for 5 days out of every week, or something like that. we'll see what i can get done.

in the meantime: thank you guys for listening. i'm proud of what i did last year, and i'm excited to see what happens next year :D

Just finished watching Nerdy Prudes Must Die about half an hour before writing this and here are my thoughts for those who want to hear.

Spoilers for all who haven't seen it yet!

I think it's an amazing (fucking transcendant) musical. I think it's a really good Starkid musical; but I don't think it was a great Hatchetfield musical. (Lots of critiques to come but lots of praise as well)

What I noticed is that it follows a similar formula to A Very Potter Musical and Holy Musical B@man, where the humor is the foremost element and the plot is less relevant. It more emulates AVPM in that the plot hooks get better toward the end, but it still didn't feel like as well developed a plot as TGWDLM or Black Friday.

Both the previous musicals seemed to exist on a grander scale - with the Lord's influence seen in large world-ending threats, where here we see a threat that really only exists for the highschoolers (I know Jägerman has the potential to be a worldwide problem but that idea seemed a little shoehorned in to add tension toward the end). PEIP being absent given this is especially apparent and while I don't want the musicals to feel formulaic I do miss my special agents and the big stories in the big medium would fit that nicely.

I was a little disapointed in the minimal Hatchetfield lore that was provided - given the amount they had to work with from Nightmare Time; however it is closer in magnitude to the lore the other musicals provide. (Taking into account that the musical appears to be written for those who haven't seen the Nightmare Times; there are more references than there are additions).

But on the whole it was a really cool musical! I liked it's goofier nature and it did feel like some of the older Starkid musicals but I feel like there were elements of passion in the other Hatchetfield content that were missing here (I know there was Steph and Pete and I love them dearly but I tend to view love stories seperately) that were highly apparent in the other stores (Name: Bill and Alice, Tom and Tim - sidenote I didn't notice their names were like that until right now - Lex and Hannah) and I feel like there were definately places where that could've been explored and wasn't.

The Lords in Black appearence did make me scream and it was so cool to see all of them on stage at once but it did miss the element the other two had of one Lord evoking a threat (giving the This Story Centers Around This Lord And Their Lore vibe) and making that in favour of one goofier song felt off to me, even if they did have Wiggly enact his malice (sidenote; is Grace Chasity technically a Warlock now, given her pact with a dark god?).

All-in-all, it's a good musical and you should definately watch it if you haven't already. I may well just be a Black Friday enjoyer (it's my favourite musical ever) who is nostalgic for the vibe it gave. I'm also probably conditioned to cool lore being a staple from nightmare time. I will be rewatching as many times as I can while I still have the ticket and there's definately room for my mind to change.

A Note on One of My Comfort Characters.

This is long, but I wanna speak out on my thoughts on my best boy Hidgens. I think we all have to acknowledge (and I know among the Hidgens lovers this is kinda scandalous) that Hidgens has done some pretty bad things. I mean, his actions in TGWDLM can almost be justified because of the world-ending circumstances causing him to become a bit... confused. His heart was in the right place if we are to belive his speech to Emma. He seemed like he genuinely believed the fact that this was going to save the world. The fact that life was going to become a musical was just an added perk. But... I don’t think we can overlook the entirety of Hatchetfield Ape Man. Now, I’m fairly sure Nick Lang has mentioned that he’s been struck by lightning, and if we are to consider the initial proposed backstory for him with his Working Boys to be cannon (where he had to watch them die) then... he’s had a pretty traumatic past. Theatre is obviously a coping mechanism for him, and the motive for at least the events of Hatchetfield Ape Man. 

I think it’s still perfectly fine to like him and to see his softer side. To giggle at his dorky side, and to make fun AUs and Headcannons about him, and to love this quirky little man. So long as you’re not making him out to be a saint, or excusing the things he’s done... it is okay to vibe with Hidgens. There’s a reason we like him, and it’s because he was written with a strong personality that, lets face it, a lot of the Starkid demographic is gonna relate to. That, and in general he’s an interesting, well-written and quirky character. The Langs knew that. Jeff knew that when he wrote Show Stopping Number. Hell, even Robert knows it and loves him (in spite of the gentle reminders that he’s not a good person). There’s a fine line between appreciating a good character and... becoming an apologist for them. The truth is, it is not okay to be a Hidgens apologist at this point in cannon. It’s not okay to justify the fact that he has both murdered and attempted murder. It wasn’t self defense. It’s not okay. And we can’t act like it is. We can’t glorify it. And at this point, I’m pretty sure we’re all trying to forget Hatchetfield Ape Man happened. But... we can acknowledge that that’s one reality in a fictional universe with a proven multiverse. And we can still enjoy his character. It’s like the rest of the villains you love. You know what they’re doing is wrong, but you still sing their songs, and draw their arts, and mimic their style. You just... don’t follow in their footsteps. 

The whole moral of that little talk: you can still like Hidgens so long as you acknowledge that he isn’t a saint. I personally love a lot of Hidgens AUs I’m seeing outside of the Ape Man!Cannon Hidgens, and I’ve seen people make some really fun headcannons based on cannon aspects of his personality and character. And I love those. I live for those. As I’ve said... he’s a comfort character. I love singing Show Stopping Number (have you seen my handle?), I cosplay Hidgens, one of my OCs (children) is Hidgens’ niece- who also has realities withing the Hatchet-multiverse where she does some not great things, and realities where she’s a hero. The situation is complex. But if you like the character... you’re perfectly valid. Just be careful you aren’t going too far. Love you all, and if you have any thoughts to add please do! Just be nice about it in the same way I was in this post. Please. I’m writing this to express an opinion, not be attacked.

This episode is such a blessing for me. Not so much from a theory stand point - but because we get two of my favourite Hatchetfield supernatural beings in one episode. Chumby (my dearly beloved) appears in The Hatchetfield Ape-Man, and honestly, I love both the actual Chumby and Ted's Encino Man moment.

And then Blinky (my weirdly beloved) appears in Watcher World. I think I love Watcher World as much as I do because "demonic theme park" is 100% an aesthetic I can get behind and would like to make it my personality - thanks.

Chapter 36 From the Top!

While Henry answered the door Ted decided to clean the dishes for Henry. Not that there was much to clean. He kind of felt like a housewife. Ha wow his dad would be disappointed in his.

Ted heard Henry open the door.

"Come in." Henry's voice was grave. Oh no. Somethings wron...

Shit the infected.

Paul and Emma rushed into the apartment and turned on the news. Everyone watched the screen nervously.

"Our news chopper has spotted a boat coming from the Hatchetfield island. We can't spot any passengers on the ship." Shit shit shut shit

The plate slipped out of Ted's hand.

No no no no no no no no no.

Ted rushes over to Henry. This is happening so soon.

"The story we heard from those brave hatchetfeilders does add a chilling light to this news." Henry wrapped his arm around Ted's arm. It was nice to have him there. It's really terrifying.

"Don't worry Clivesdale all docks in the area are prohibited from letting that boat in."

Well that should slow them down a little.

"More after these messages!" Emma turned off the tv. Fuck they'll be here so soon. Shit shit shit.

"Fuck." Ted's voice was shaky. Ted's going to have to fight. Henry's going to have to fight. That's not good for him. Not right now.

Henry held his arm tighter. Ted loves Henry so much. Ted just wanted to protect him.

"Well at least they can't dock." Paul didn't look confident. Paul was never really an optimistic person. Ted knew he was just saying that to calm down Emma.

"They can still drive into the beach. It's not like they care about safety." Henry's voice was deep, deeper than usual. He was right though. Ted couldn't help but worry about him.

Henry started to rub Ted's arm. Ted relaxes his arm slightly. Henry must also be worried about him. Ted was just overcome by love.

"What do we do?" Emma sounded nervous.

Ted felt Henry let go of his arm. Henry speed walked over to his room. Ted followed him. He didn't want Henry to be alone. Well he didn't want to be without Henry. Henry opened the trunk at the end of his bed and pulled out a fucking shotgun. That was there the whole time!

"Woah." There's just a gun in his room. The man who Ted loves, who's known to breakdown crying, has a gun in his room. Great.

Henry pulled out a hand gun. Oh great two fucking guns.

"Here take this." Henry threw the fucking gun at Ted.

The look in Henry's eyes made Ted nervous. Henry's eyes looked dark. He's never seen Henry look that way before. It's like something switched.

"Do you know how to shoot a gun?" The tone of Henry's voice worried Ted. It just didn't feel like his Henry.

"N-no" Why would Ted know how to fire a gun! His mom fucking hated guns. Ted's just always been uncomfortable with guns.

Henry picked up two more handguns. Holy shit he has so many guns. Ted's not used to this side of Henry. He prefers his giggly little dork.

Henry walked through the door past Ted. He handed the other guns to paul and Emma.

"What the fuck!" Emma looked just as uncomfortable as Ted is. "I can't use this!"

"Would you rather be armed or not?" Henry's usually not this harsh to Emma. They're close. This is weird.

"Here Emma I can teach you." Paul turned to Emma.

"Teach Ted as well." Henry rushes back into his room. Might as well do what Henry says. He's never seen him like this before. Ted didn't want to piss him off.

Ted was barely paying attention to what paul was saying. Ted picked up the bare essentials, he'll be fine. But Henry...

Henry was rushing around his room in a frenzy. Ted didn't know what was going on in Henry's brain. Ted wanted to hug him, so he'd calm down but that's not a good idea.

Henry rushed back into the room and turned the tv back on. There was a shot of the boat. It was scary to look at. That where they are.

Henry stared at the television for a little bit of time and then he went back into his room and grabbed a map.

Henry looked frustrated. His usually perfect posture was now all hunched and tense. It just made Ted more scared. He loves Henry so much. He just wants him to be happy. Then again no human is happy all the time.

"God damnit you're useless!" Henry yelled at the tv. Ted had never seen him yell like that before. There's a lot that Ted's never seen from Henry. But he still loves him.

"Henry?" Ted took a step closer. He wanted to wrap his arms around the tense Henry but maybe that wouldn't be a good idea. Ted didn't know.

"How the fuck am I supposed to know where they are!" Henry stared at the map. Ted wanted desperately to comfort Henry. He looked so lost in thought, Ted was afraid that he would interrupt his train of thought. Ted just watched Henry breath heavily. God.

"There." Henry pointed to the map.

The beach attached to Peterson park. Ted's been there a couple of times. It's really a pretty place. Good place to be alone with your thoughts. But that's beside the point. That's practically across town.

"That's far." Ted didn't know what else to say.

Henry turned around. Henry looked Ted in the eyes. This is the man he loves. He would do anything for him. Just the look in his eyes was so foreign. Tears started to form in his eyes. They trailed down his face. Now Ted recognized that look.

"Henry." Ted's heart hurt so much. Henry...

"I'm ok, Theodore." He can't lie to Ted.

"No you're not." Ted would do anything for Henry. But he can't have this conversation with Paul and Emma here. "You two, go here" Ted pointed to the location. "6 stops on the A train, 3 on the L" wow maybe Ted's been there too many times.

Paul and Emma left the apartment. Ok they're good

Ted redirected his attention to Henry. Well this isn't the hardest Ted's seen Henry cry. Just seeing him cry at all hurt though.

Ted pulled Henry into a tight hug. Ted felt Henry relax in his arms.

"I won't let them hurt you Henry." Ted looked Henry down in the eyes. Henry's eyes softened.

"That's not what I'm scared of." Henry caressed Ted's cheek. "I don't know what I'd do if you got hurt." There he is, there's the Henry that Ted loved so dearly.

"We'll be ok." Ted kissed Henry's nose hoping it would stop him from crying. It didn't. Of course it didn't they might all die. Ted wiped the tears away from Henry's cheek. "You're the love of my life." Ted kissed Henry lightly. The love of his life, has a nice ring to it.

"I can't lose you, Ted." Henry kept crying. Ted might have started crying. Ted wanted to see Henry smile.

"Aww what happened to Theodore?" Ted smiled at Henry. Henry didn't smiled back. Ted understood it.

"je t'aime Theodore."

Ted loved him so much.

"If only I knew what that meant." Ted chuckled. Henry laughed a little too. Thank god. His smile was so beautiful, even with tears in his eyes.

"We need to get going." Henry's smile fell. Well at least he smiled for a second.

They should get going soon though.

Henry grabbed his gun and his bag. Ted looked down at the handgun. This is something.

Henry grabbed Ted's hand and they left. They can survive this together. They have to.
