While I intend this blog to remain a largely news-free space due to the constant hellstate of the world, let me be clear that I stand in full support of both the Palestinian and Jewish peoples who are currently experiencing relentless hate and suffering in these horrid times.
I am disgusted at the number of people, especially "progressives" on this website who have used this situation to spread both Islamophobia and Antisemitism. This goes double if you dared to reblog those "punch nazis/fascists <3" and "[x] are welcome here!" posts while in the next breath spreading dangerous fucking narratives that kill people.
So many people in online political spaces evidently see this as nothing more than a case of picking "sides", when ultimately what matters is supporting the oppressed against fascist governments and militias, wherever they are.
Common people will always have more alike with each other than their leaders. This is not a novel concept. Your activism should always be motivated by love and compassion first, and hatred second. If you use your beliefs as an excuse to find an acceptable target to vent your hatred towards regardless of the actual material outcome, you are no fucking activist.
You're a bigot.

i remember watching boardwalk empire and yknow it’s a show about actual gangsters and criminals during the american prohibition era. downright despicable people committing crimes from the very light to the especially heinous. and yet, and yet, outside of the tumblr bubble (which still had an active bwe fandom at the time), i’d come across thread after thread of why margaret thompson or gillian darmody or daughter maitland or lucy danziger or freaking billie kent was Actually the Worst Character on the show. when willie was Right There. people will always find a reason to uwu-ify the guys and dismiss the women as ‘annoying’. every time.

As promised, Death on the Ice Field
Nothing I say here will be new since the themes have been tackled plenty of times in fanfic (which I am so thankful for), but it’s still fun regardless.
I feel like I usually have to put the disclaimer that this is a HitsuHina blog, because I think I will always have more to say about them.
Like Death on the Ice Field for example. It frustrates me the anime didn’t show Momo’s part here, because I’ve always believed that she was as crucial to Rangiku and Granny in setting up Toshiro on the path of a shinigami and meeting Hyourinmaru.
The way I see it, Momo was the spark, the impetus, Rangiku showed the way, while Granny allowed him to go. The special chapter, in my view, was all about awakenings or an awareness of change. It was Momo leaving which reminded Toshiro about things changing. It’s an allegory of sorts about growing up. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that perhaps this chapter also showed the start of his awareness of his budding feelings towards her (I mean there will always be naysayers and live and let live, but even without the relationship chart, I don’t think you’d blush at your sister or sister-figure no matter how close she was).
Another thing is how when he says Momo and Granny were the only ones never to be afraid of him, he says next that that’s why he likes Granny, but he doesn’t say the same of Momo. I’ve always thought Kubo excelled in his use of negative space, but that also applies to the dialogue-variant in that he seriously leaves a lot of things unsaid and interactions unexplored (Isshin reuniting with Rangiku and Toshiro, Kirio with Hiyori). It leaves a lot of room for interpretation and makes things fun for fans. Personally, I always read it as him being unsure of his feelings for Momo now, again something brought to his awareness with her leaving, a characteristic tsundere response if you could say.
He measures time by the number of years she entered the academy, and while she still smiles brightly at him - the same smile she graced him with five years ago - she no longer faces back (to Toshiro, Jurinan, take your pick) when saying goodbye the way she did the first time she left. And unlike five years ago where Toshiro just scowls and says she shouldn’t bother visiting anymore, this time he no longer keeps the pretense up, he waves back, though a bit limply because Momo doesn’t even see it, only facing forward, sure in her goal. (Be careful what you wish for and all that.)
So when Grandma says at the end that Toshiro didn’t want to make her lonely, it brings to mind what she said while scolding Toshiro that he shouldn’t say what he said because doesn’t Momo leaving make him feel lonely? He doesn’t deny it either, only pretends that everything is ok and that she’ll be back soon anyway. It’s also no coincidence, I think, that Granny wanted to talk to him right after Momo visited again. In other words, he didn’t want to make Granny lonely the same way Momo leaving made him feel lonely. But that theme of loneliness also applies to Hyourinmaru. Both sword and master would always feel lonely if Toshiro never discovered his name. And if you take Bleach Track 8 as canon (which I do because I love that Drama CD), there’s something to be said about Toshiro discovering Hyourinmaru’s name out of a desire to protect Momo, and Momo being the first to discover him discovering his shikai and subsequently calling him ‘Hitsugaya-kun’ without any prompting this time. In a way, it was a mark of growing up for Toshiro. That’s why there’s plenty of underlying themes between Hyourinmaru and Hinamori in relation to Toshiro that I love to see explored, which @rays-of-fire-and-ice does wonderfully in their fic! That theme of loneliness was also present in Momo during the Soul Society arc (and truthfully for a lot of characters) when she must have felt so isolated because of everything going on around her.
Laying it all out like this, you can really see the parallels with how Toshiro wakes up to both Momo and Rangiku, and how the line “I hear a voice” gets repeated for both Momo and his Granny. I don’t know how intentional Kubo really is with references to mythology, but it’s a fun coincidence to liken the three of them to the fates - Momo as the Maiden, Rangiku as the Mother, and Grandma as the crone - all pivotal to Toshiro’s path.

A potential of ANOTHER ideological conflict in Bloodborne
I've been thinking back about the concept that what Bloody Crow is doing would be considered a "blasphemy" for Hunter of Hunters traditions and mindset and discussion on it with @heraldofcrow ( x ), but it got me thinking of an AU/sequel/whatever regarding the concept?
Like, imagine if after Eileen retires, Bloody Crow would instead take the mantle of Hunter of Hunters for good and repurpose the agenda and the tradition of a covenant? Instead of tradition of the Sky Burial, it WOULD now align with search of the Blood Dregs within blood-drunk hunters, officially and deliberately. Instead of letting the birds eat the body of a blood-drunk hunter and thus deliver their soul into "Heaven, or maybe Hunter's Dream"? Now the agenda is, "Even if they've fallen morally, they can still be reborn into something good".
Not a secret that Blood Dregs look like bloody sperm cells, but also seem to have "faces" like Messengers', or even Flora's. They are 'blood echoes', souls of those a hunter killed! So, Bloody Crow could make a believable point that letting the fallen "atone" this way, by becoming a material for creation of a 'bigger' being, is a solid strategy too! When this 'child of blood' is born, they might be a beginning of a better era for humans, after all!
And the coolest part? I could see even remaining Old Hunters see some meaning in it. Both "strategies" deal with superstition - but at the same time in Bloodborne lore, any superstition can be an absolutely real thing. There ARE magic and gods!
Furthermore, the 'Dream', and Nightmare (Winter Lanterns' heads are made of melted Messengers) deal with the Moon Presence by association. And it very well could be that Pthumeru Ihyll, and as follows, Vilebloods are "opposing" force to it! Imposter Iosefka (who is implied to be a Cainhurst noble too) and Annalise can both recognise the "scent of Moon" from Paleblood Hunter, Pthumeru Ihyll like Loran are said to have incurred wrath and curse of the Great Ones, Healing Church has Moon simps (Laurence and Ludwig namely) that went against Cainhurst the way they did... All that!
So, traditional ways of Hunters of Hunters, carried on until Eileen are more 'Team Moon', and Crow's new ways would be more 'Team Curse/Blood' hahahah! Maybe he'd even slightly alter uniform too, making it instead resemble black wings, bloodied ones too. Hahah... living up to his nickname.....

I hope they don't all die.
Specifically, I want Patia to live. I want Patia Por'co, heiress to one of the greatest mages the Age of Arcanum ever produced and to some of the worst wizard hubris going around, to live.
I think it would be so much worse for her to watch her Age, her Age and her shining city in the sky and her magical brilliance that she was so sure would bathe them all in its light forever, crumble into dust and ruin.

hey remember when i left those tags on that post?
i still don’t want to talk about what the work of fiction is but i legit just got reminded today that while it’s been like over 15 years that i did want to check this thing, the character that “caught my interest like 7 years ago” actually caught my interest 12 years ago. As in, there was a specific moment in time when i wanted to get into it because i learnt about the character in question.
i’ve been in hysterics for the past ten minutes because i’m realizing it’s been over a decade that once in a while i had humored starting this thing, and that while it definitely started out of another place, it’s been 12 years that steadily it was because this character was standing out to me enough that i wanted to get into it, but then forgot all about it, and now i’m out there actually getting into it after a *dream that came out of nowhere about this chara popping up while i haven’t thought of them in years* and i’m just.
bestfriendo is making fun of me because “this is the most slowburn in all of history of fav characters” and i’m screaming into my hands, imagine considering getting into something for OVER A DECADE while constantly one character keeps standing out for you and eventually you just get a dream out of nowhere of this chara like a sudden “hey. I’ve been sending you messages about it for the past decade why the fuck are you leaving me on read” and now you’re not only forced to pay attention but also forced to realize YOU COULD HAVE STARTED ALL OF THAT OVER TEN YEARS AGO i’m feeling so unwell.

I don’t even like meet-cutes. I think they're annoying. have them meet in school like canon and allow their relationship to develop natureally.
unless you count wwx trying to break into CR with forbidden alcohol as one because that scene followed by the moonlit swordfight is one of the greatest fictional meetings between love interests I've ever seen. its appropriately dramatic, it allows for chemistry and banter, it illustrates each person's character and how they react to each other, it comes back again and again in thematic relevance to their personalities, story, and relationship, and visually its absolutely stunning.
I don’t count their meeting at the gates of CR because. well I simply don't like it
