Back in 2022, for Mother's Day, the character designer for "Fresh Pretty Cure!," Hisashi Kagawa, posted a drawing on his Twitter to celebrate the day.

It appears to be a drawing of the Momozono family: Love, her parents, and Setsuna, the adoptive daughter, plus two children cut off at the bottom.

Here's the comment that Kagawa wrote for the drawing:

It's quite the interesting drawing for a number of reasons. To start off, the characters appeared to be aged up compared to how they looked like in the actual anime. Love's parents have a few wrinkles on their faces, and the two Pretty Cure appear to be drawn as adults, the designs based off a previous drawing that Kagawa did back in 2016.

Here was the comment Kagawa wrote for this drawing:

An illustration celebrating the sale of the second FreshPre Blu-Ray BOX! A drawing (of a wild idea) imagining the four girls that grew up within that timeframe [Note: 2016 marked 7 years since 2009, when FreshPre started, meaning the women are 21]. I made it up, so it's not official. If you want to enjoy the continuity of the All Stars films, please forget it. Sorry to those of you who say it's not what you expected! [Note: Because in the All Stars canon, no matter how many years have passed, the Cures don't seem to age despite the number of Pretty Cure growing with each year.]

Going back to the more recent Mother's Day drawing, Kagawa quote retweeted it last year with this comment, in celebration of the recent "Otona Pretty Cure":

An unlikely drawing I drew for Mother's Day last year! The multiverse of adult Pretty Cure!...or rather, the Momozono family of the multiverse.

So with all that set up, just who are those two kids cut off at the bottom? One could say that they're Love's siblings, i.e. her parents decided to have two more kids. But another interpretation is that they're the kids of Love and some other partner, is it Daisuke, or Setsuna?

Whichever one, Kagawa appears to be silent on it, as per this reply.

But it's interesting that he acts all modest about the sketches. He calls them "wild ideas" since, at least until "OtonaPre," or even a few years back, the idea of the Pretty Cure growing up was a wild concept to many. But for him to also stay silent on the identity of those two kids in the drawing, when he could easily say they're Love and Daisuke's kids (note that he isn't apart of the Momozono family sketch)...is this his way slyly saying he believes Love and Setsuna end up together and have kids, without the Toei ninjas getting on him?

I choose to believe it that way at least!

Hey, I remember you mentioning on your IG something about two types of popular artists and one being good at social media and the other being good at art or something like that (I can't really remember lol). But it got me thinking, any tips for how to be good at social media? Cuz I'm certainly not even after posting art for six years lol

Heya!

What I meant by that is that there are traits that allow you to grow on social media, and traits that determine what a highly skilled artist is, and those traits do not always necessarily overlap.

I've seen so many amazing artists that post artwork that blow my head off, and yet they don't have many likes. On the other hand, some artists at the same skill level who draw more popular things will get way more attention.

That is not to say that either is the correct way to create art, but there is definitely a formula to social media that is in play.

There are a lot of posts about how to grow a social media account, particularly on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram art spheres, and imo you really need to examine what you want from your art before jumping into social media mode

The stuff you create to pander to social media might not be art that you want to create at all - I'm lucky, because I am less artist more storyteller, and what I enjoy is telling jokes and silly stories to liven up people's moods :] this, of course, conveniently does well on social media. On a personal note, I have a history of being a recluse and not connecting well with people, and art is my way of trying to communicate my feelings, one way or another.

So of course, if you draw for any reason other than my own, my approach to art and it's relation to social media might be inappropriate for you.

All that being said, if u take a look at those "get big on social media" videos they always cite the same few points... And you can look into that, for sure, but this video sums up how I feel about all that.

I spent like 20 minutes drafting words after the above paragraph, but I really ended up regurgitating sentiments from the video... So really don't listen to me, listen to that video

EDIT:

I just realised I didnt actually answer the question with my anecdotal experience, so here's a list of things I did

1. Posted like 3 doodles a day on social media

I did this for 6 months on a side account on Twitter recently and got the account to 11k followers... And I did this for 3 months on Instagram a few years ago and I think got 3.5k followers. Of course, do not spam maliciously and make sure your art is still of good quality, but for those artworks I posted quickly, I did not colour, and mostly did clean sketches. This also trains you in the matter of line confidence haha. Again, this worked for me because of my set of circumstances (love for the media, want to tell stories, simple art style)

2. Focus on my favourite aspects of media

This helps with respect to burnout - kinda hard to burnout when you love what you're making! For me, it's character interactions and comics. I want to see my blorbos kiss and if I'm not the one drawing it who will?!

3. Interact with people

People eat up work that they can interact with. A choose your own story situation, one of those like/rt to strip a character 😭 those do numbers for a reason.

Additionally, if you post stuff people love, people will respond to it with comments, maybe their own headcanons, adding on to the work... I've gone into long looong Twitter thread conversations with people who added onto my ideas that I threw up onto the screen and I think it's also a nice thing to do to respond to positive comments haha... I'm not very good at this (read: bad at communication)

I think that's the key points... Hope this helps!

I begin another doodle on my arm. It's nearly filled now with sketches from my ballpoint pen.

"Seriously, I can't believe your soulmate's never asked you to stop. Your drawings are everywhere at this point" my friend Stacy laughs.

I finish up the rose I'm drawing, "I'm sure they love my drawings. They've told me themself."

Stacy sighs, "I wish my soulmate talked to me more.. do you think I'll ever find them?"

"Easy. Just write your name really big on your forehead, they won't miss you."

"That is FAR from a solution, Y/N."

I laugh and look back down at my arm. A small heart appears next to the flower.

A Weverse notification interrupts my thoughts as I walk through the door. "RM started a Live" I open the live.

Namjoon and Hoseok are painting. I giggle as Namjoon spills some ink on his arm. Shutting my phone off, I go to take care of the pile of dishes in the sink.

As I pull my sleeves up, I notice a splatter over my wrist.

"What the.."

I run over and grab my phone. Pulling up the app again, I stiffen at the sight.

Namjoon's purple ink stain covers his wrist, a few splatters on his palm. Exactly like mine.

"No way... it can't be" I mumble.

Slowly, I grab a pen and write a small note on my arm by the splatter. Like clockwork, it shows up on his arm: "Namjoon?"

The next few days, twitter had been blowing up about us.

"Namjoon's soulmate is an ARMY?"

"Guys! She knows! She found him!"

"Aww, that's sweet. Let's be happy for them."

"Wait, you mean they haven't met yet?"

I sigh, bringing my head to my hands.

"What do you want to do about it?" Stacy asks.

"I don't know.. I'm happy but I'm sad and I just don't know what to do. I'm surprised that he's someone I've admired for so long, but I feel dumb for not ever noticing. And I never imagined meeting my soulmate would be like... this. What if ARMY hates me? I don't want to cause him trouble. What if-"

"Relax, girl. I've only seen supportive comments so far. Everyone knows that you can't control soulmates, I'm sure it'll be fine."

"Yeah, I just, i dunno." I slump down in my chair, "it's not like I'll ever get to meet him anyways. It's a lost cause."

"Hey! Chill out. What you need to do is give him a way to find you."

"Such as?" I grumble.

"Such as posting your art online. I've been telling you forever, your creations are too good to keep to yourself! And if you post them, soon enough either he'll find you or ARMY will"

"That's... that's not a bad idea."

And that's how you got here. You'd been posting for two weeks now, but only had about 12 followers.

"Trust the process! He'll find you. It takes time to build an account." Stacy assured you.

"I just feel like the art should be for me, not a faceless algorithm."

"I'm sure he'll find you. He sees your art every day."

"I hope so" I mutter.

I scrolled on my phone half-awake. I couldn't fall asleep, so I decided to explore my feed on instagram. Suddenly, I received a like. And another like. And a follow. And soon enough, a message.

"Who..." I mumbled.

My eyes widened as I see the message they sent me. (Messages by them are in THIS COLOR, messages by you are in THIS COLOR :))

"I'd recognize your art anywhere"

I shiver at their words. Looking at their account, it doesn't help in figuring out who this is. A part of me carries a small hope. It must be Namjoon! He must have found me! But I don't want to get hurt.

"Who are you?"

"My name is Namjoon :) You draw on my arm all the time.."

No... no way. It can't be. What am I supposed to say to my soulmate? What if it's just Stacy pulling some sick prank on me?

"Hmm, prove it then."

Suddenly I feel a tingling sensation on my wrist as words begin to appear.  'Hello artist'. I quickly scratch out a message in our chat room.

"Oh my god, it's really you! I never thought I'd find you.."

"Well you did :) I love your drawings by the way. I'm a big fan."

"No, that's what I'M supposed to be saying. You're music is seriously amazing. I can't believe I get to be your soulmate.."

"You're so cute"

I blush. Not sure what to say, I wait for him to speak again.

"How long have you known?"

"That I'm your soulmate haha"

"Oh, uh, I was watching your live with j-hope"

"Ah, so when I spilled the paint on myself? That isn't very romantic..."

"Well, I'm glad you did regardless."

A question sits at the back of my throat. Suddenly my fingers begin to type it.

"How did you find me?"

He begins to type.

"It's actually kind of similar. I've been following you for a while now. I found your page maybe, two weeks ago? You didn't have too many posts up at the time but as you started posting more, I guess I just kinda realized one day. Like your drawings felt like home to me. And one day I was looking at your art on my Lock Screen, and then down at my arm, and it just hit me. So I decided to message you haha"

"Dfbivaldhflvahf ok wait you made my art your Lock Screen?"

"Shoot. Shouldn't have sent that part"

I giggle.

"Um, I guess where do you live?"

"No no not like that-"

"I feel like I'm messing this whole soulmates thing up already??"

"Like do you also live in Korea or..?"

"Ah, no.. sorry. I live in (INSERT COUNTRY NAME)"

"Don't be sorry! Y'know.. we're actually going to be doing a comeback soon with a tour :D"

"I'll talk and see if we can go there!"

I shiver in the cold hallway. He told me to meet him here, is he still coming? Maybe I should leave.. NO! That's silly. He's coming, Y/N. Just be patient.

Suddenly I hear sneakers squeak against the tile. Turning to my left, I notice him. Him. The boy I've been messaging for 7 months now. The one I've been waiting to meet. The one I love.

His dark hair bounces as he runs, star-like shimmers glimmering in his eyes. He slides in front of me, skidding a bit on the slick floor.

"It's you, you're here, I" He pants.

"Hi Namjoon" I smile.

Suddenly my head goes blank. All those months of texting, and I have nothing to say.

"Erm, good luck with the concert."

He checks his watch, "Oh, right, haha. I was so excited to meet you that I forgot about the concert."

"Hey! ARMYs paid good money to be here tonight. Don't forget about them because of me"

He smiles and pulls me into a hug. We swing from left to right as we talk. After around 15 minutes, a staff member informs us that we have to go for him to perform.

Once he leaves I sink down to the floor, clutching my phone to me. I daydream about reality, the moments only seconds ago that somehow already feel so distant. Wonder when I'll see him again. Wonder if it'll be soon.

"I can't believe she's his soulmate"

"I know, right? I mean, is the universe sure that they're destined?"

Laughter from the two staff members pulls me out of my lovely daze. Why are they so rude? What did I do? Do they assume I don't know Korean just because we spoke in English?

A third girl working there spoke up, "C'mon guys, let's not be so mean. We don't even know her yet!"

"Yeah, but like, have you seen her?" The previous staff questions.

"Yeah, what about her?"

"She's just... not what I thought she'd look like."

"She could be listening now," the third girl said, "I think she seems perfectly nice. You should give her a chance."

Without another word she walks out of the room and into the hallway, where I was listening. I look up to her from the floor, my eyes glistening with tears.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! You must have heard them. They're like that to everyone, don't worry."

I nod and turn away, "Yeah no, it's just... old insecurities coming back"

"Well don't let them," she smiles, "I, along with I'm sure Namjoon, think you're gorgeous."

I laugh, "Thank you. You are too"

"I have to be! It's hard keeping up with my worldwide handsome boyfriend" She jokes.

"Wait, are you?"

"Minji, Kim Seokjin's soulmate" She grins.

We talk together while we watch the concert from the waiting room. Apparently she's been with the boys for 2 years, which is a little intimidating. Am I going to have to meet them later? What if-

"Everything alright?" Minji asks.

"y-yeah!" I nod.

"Don't worry, you'll be okay"

I turn to her. Did she know? Suddenly, Namjoon and the rest of the members pour into the room.

He pulls me into a hug, "How did we do, baby?"

I blush at the nickname, mumbling, "You guys were amazing"

"Were you nice to Y/N?" Seokjin asks Minji.

She sighs, "yes, but Ari and Chaeyeong said stuff about her"

"What did they say?" Namjoon yells.

"They were just being rude. Talking about what she looks like and if she's good enough for you, and...y'know"

Unknowingly, I had begun to tug harder at Namjoon's shirt while tears threatened to form. He pulls his arms tighter around me, "Hey, hey, it's okay. You're perfect. Don't listen to them, Minji's right. They're always like this. We are all here for you, we love you. None of the things you're insecure about mean anything to me. To me, you are perfect."

"I-I.." He pulls away to look at my face.

"You're crying but you're smiling.. I don't understand"

"They're happy tears" I grinned, "Because, I can't believe the universe thought to give me the luck that is you."

Special Operations Original Art Concepts & Thumbnails!

Since it's been over a year since Special Operations was first ever uploaded, I thought I should celebrate and make a proper masterlist of everything I've compiled throughout the year. I will also go ahead and link the official designs down below!

Quick disclaimer: Special Operations is MY fanfic, but I obviously don't own the characters! As always, thank you to Spoon & double-thank you to the fanartists and for 1,000 hits on the fanfic!!! Thank you thank you!

This post will get pretty long, so I'm gonna go ahead and make a cut below if you're interested in seeing more/reading my rambles!

Here are the very first ever art I did about a year and a half ago, before I even started writing the fic:

God damn, has my art come far. I don't want to get too sentimental, so let's move on the redesigns of these designs & my thoughts on these:

This was Donnie's first ever concept design (after the original designs) - I always knew I wanted to have him have a gas mask or mask of some kind - his ultimate design really changed there at the end! It's really cool to see how far my art has come since this last year LOL.

This was Mikey's original design concept for this au, once I reworked the original one above. I wasn't really happy with it, or any of the designs, for that fact... I didn't really have anything directly in mind over than the fact that knowing his brothers were mad overprotective of him would mean he's covered in clothes. I wanted a mask for him as well and really took inspiration from his design from the show, and tried to include the aspects from that. below here is a few mask concepts I tried out, and a sneak peak of Raph's design/doodle I did.

Even though these other mask concepts were cute, I just couldn't resist going with the first and original design I had. I took the inspiration off of that for the stickers/paints on his shell from the show. Below is an additional drawing of Mikey! Not much changed in his final design other than the fact that he has no shoes, really.

Here's Leo's first ever intial design. I am glad Spoon convinced me to change it, because while it's cool, I don't think it really fits Leo's flashy and show style. He is a fighter who works beautifully with his skills, so while stealth was obviously the #1 thing to be considered on the list, I ultimately just kind of handed his design to Spoon to decide how he should look LOL. This was such a starch contrast to the first drafts...

I've always struggled at drawing Raph, so I don't really have any photos of him saved ): / to show off. Sorry Raph lovers, but Spoon did him JUSTICE and I will forever be grateful for them for that <3<3

Art and Life Updates, Future Planning

(will be a bit personal, pardon me!)

I've been resting from drawing (in terms of making 'full art piece') for the past few months if anyone notice? People who followed me on Twitter might also notice how a bit absent I was from drawing full art, or contributing to fandom freely like I used to ><

The truth is, aside from waiting for commission clients, I'm actually have been participating in this zine for months, as I did contribute a piece and another small illust for the cover collaboration!

Beside that, I'm also testing my luck applying jobs left and right IRL. I guess it's been the almost 2 years since I graduated from university, but I barely receive any 'proper' love calls from any companies I've tried to apply to as any position possible. And my mental health has been unstable thanks to this problem as well haha!

I cried a lot, but at the same time...I'm so fast at getting back on track, trying, failing again, and the cycle repeats. It's been like this since June 2022, where my latest contract ends and my full independent freelance gigs starts. For the latest application experiences, I also try to apply for art editor and concept artist position, which requires me for creating new stuffs for its technical test + reason of most of my content absence (sadly again, I didn't pass the evaluation XD)

I did doodle a simple things and sketch anything, both traditionally and digitally, also grow back my love for gaming uwu. I think some (read: those who follows on twitter) already noticed that I've been playing Suikoden series (1, 2, Tierkreis -> with emulator for android) and Cookie Run Kingdom ^q^ Also the classic farming game like Stardew Valley and Graveyard Keeper! It's so fun and refreshing, and makes me less stressful to think about drawing!

But as I receive the latest rejection letter, I've been meaning to share some of my plans that I've considered:

I might gonna share the rejected concept art here, since I love the design so much ^q^ but of course in more refined visdev format!

I also wants to focus on practice, and I may or may not share those things? I'm not sure about other creators but I have this annual 'improvement stuck' moment where I feel like I kept being in comfort zone and trying to find anything I'm lacking and explore it, to test if I'm capable to do that certain new things or not. Be it art technique, hobbies, etc.

I do have a plan to join the hitsuhina week, but I can't promise if I can contribute everyday + in form of full art piece like I used to. It'll be more doodly/sketchy, idk, but I guess what matters is the overall concept that were delivered!

Related with point number 2, as I want to focusing on practice, I also want to revisit older personal projects. I have some OCs that I created during middle school and can't stop thinking about them TwT so I wish to explore their lore back >< which means less fandom content? Who knows.

Re-promote my commission form! I won't change the price for full-color, but I'll add different style options like previous commission that comes with much more cheaper or at least affordable prices for anyone who still wish to get something from me ^^ I'm still going to accept any client, beside job seeking IRL. I mean, I still need some personal income despite still living with my family?

So these are pretty much what I've been planning. Everything may or may not goes according to plan, but it won't hurt to give it a try and let it flow. So I close this post with this mantra:

First Post.

Not me joining all late. Aha... Name, uh, can be either Minni or Minnie. Eene meene. Either or. I'm not too pressed on what to call myself. (Maybe Mimic?) Eeeh. I don't use social media as much as I used to, so i'd like to post at a very casual pace. I draw sometimes, although I want to make it a goal to share rough sketches that may never be completed. After Discord went down a few weeks back I realized that maaaaaybe having another source of communication would be good to have on the side. I consider this my side-blog because i'm going by a different username. I figured that I might as well try to start with a blank canvas if i'm creating a tumblr again and see what I can do from scratch. Same thing with Twitter. It's whatever. My avatar is a slime OC because I think they're neat. He's not my persona. More like a mascot that I like to use as an avatar. As I wrote in the profile description i'm a hobby artist. Current fandoms that i'm interested in are soulborne types like DS, BB, ER. Admittedly i'm not that good at playing them and I prefer to game with friends; however, I do enjoy generating RP scenarios. Recently I picked up Elden Ring again, so I hope to doodle a few things and go from there. So that's it from meeeeee~ Peace.

I've been drawing traditionally again during my free time. I've also started to get into photography a bit. I have more sketches and some photos below.

Some sketches I’ve done recently on paper- I was drawing with a real life friend, and they doodled a bit on the pages too. I'm pretty bad at leaving my sketchbook just for art- Especially in older sketchbooks, it's easy to see that I used it for some calculations by hand, software planning, and engineering drafts. With this current sketchbook I carry around everyday, I've tried to make sure to keep it only for drawing, and to leave school stuff aside (although, in the second image I jotted down vocabulary I had trouble with in preparation for the quiz I had the next day).

I posted the first sketch on Twitter already, but I thought I might as well repost it here to lead into some other sketches. On the third and fourth pages, you can see very cute doodles from my friend as well. I’ve gotten into photography recently, and looking at cameras and window shopping is really, really bad for my wallet. Speaking of photography, here are a few photos I took on my phone. I think the first one on my campus is my favorite. Also, the dog is not mine. I found out the hard way that I'm actually a bit allergic to them for long exposures.

For the two below, I think I could have shot things better, but I'm not too upset since I took these while walking with my friends, and I didn't really wanna slow them down. The first one's shadows are a bit too deep for my tastes, but I do like that they make the tree's shadows stand out so much more on the ground. For the second, I think the image would be a bit nicer had there been a subject on the bottom right, but I also like how empty the photo feels as well.

I’ll be traveling this Thanksgiving break, so I’ll see if I can post more doodles and photos while I’m traveling. I've been working on a draft for another piece recently, but had to take a break from it due to my classes eating up a lot of time.

This was originally sketched and painted out during Artemis' new reveal stream, but I had gotten caught up in some other school work, and had to leave it to the side. I'd been aiming to finish it by the night after the reveal stream, but I wasn't happy with the rendering, specifically for the sleeves, so I had to restart it. I hope I can finish this soon and post it- sometimes I feel a bit guilty that I don't post much on Twitter, but that's just how life is I guess. In regards to things I want to draw soon, I hope to be able to sketch out some short comics and illustrations after I come back from the break. Otherwise, this is the end of this post. I'll see you guys when I next have a good batch of photos and doodles.

so i just found your youtube channel like a few minutes ago and I really enjoyed your video talking about different types of social media and your own personal experience/opinions on them because ive been bouncing back and forth between social medias. so my input on avoiding overthinking b4 you post is to start sharing your work in smaller places to build up your confidence! if you're worried about tracing/stealing, i don't want to say that's not a legitimate concern, bc it IS, however i will say it really doesn't happen too often! ive been around for years and i dont think ive...ever had anyone trace me, the most i've seen is heavy referencing and usually if you bring it to their attention, they instantly stop - when this happens i say it's 70% of the time just young kids that don't realize what theyre doing is wrong or didnt realize youd find out. you can also watermark your work! theres nothing wrong with watermarks, even if its just on a sketch! while it cant necessarily guard against tracers, it can guard against blatant theft. you dont necessarily have to post your work in progresses if doing so demotivates you; but you dont have to exclusively post fully rendered art, either. try to get into a habit of making doodles n more simple art in between your big pieces, and get into the swing of posting those! if you feel like you havent posted in a while, just make a quick doodle or something along those lines and share that! you can build up your confidence with posting online in general by starting small - you could start by sharing your art in discord servers or with your friends so you get more confident about sharing your work regularly. "ill do this when i'm good enough" is a SUPER detrimental train of thought...bc there will never be a point where you'll admit to yourself that you feel like you're ready. that's just a part of the artistic progression :') if you have that mindset, you'll ALWAYS have that mindset, and you'll never actually do the projects that you want to! if you think its outside your ability, it probably isnt really, and you should give it a go anyways! even if it doesnt look perfect or turn out exactly how you wanted it to, you'll probably still be happy in the end bc u gave it your best effort :]

if you know how to code w html, all you have to do is press "edit profile" on a character and you can code directly into the big box field! if you're not seeing that, it has to do with your settings (which i can explain more in depth if need be) if you ARENT familiar w html, thats fine too! you can find a TON of free to use toyhouse code templates, and a lot of them even explain exactly how to use them! basically you can copy and paste their code for free into your character profile, and just change the text so it fits your character :3 i have a favorite folder for all the neat free to use codes i see, here's a link: https://toyhou.se/Qwizz/favorites/79962 *my toyhouse is kind of eyestrainy btw!) carrd is a seperate website: https://carrd.co you can make a carrd for free and its much more straightforward, you basically just drag text boxes/images in and customize the site how youd like :3

General Art Tips :)

I kinda went off on twitter about this but figured I’d put all my thoughts into one post, and on a site OFF twitter lmao. I know some people ain’t there anymore.

Anyways! Some thoughts from a long time artist, aimed at newer artists or anyone struggling with motivation. A lot of this has to do with brushes, which I don’t?? See touched on too much I guess????

Obviously this is aimed at digital artists. That’s all I know, I’m afraid! 

I am most familiar with CSP but really, all of this is true for other programs too!

-Find a brush you vibe with. Find MANY brushes you vibe with! 

When your brushes feel better, and by extension, drawing feels better, you’re more likely to do it.

I know it sounds a bit silly to say that brushes feel different from one another when they’re all controlled by the same pen on the same screen, but trust me.

Play with every brush in the program you’re using. Draw out some scribbles. Increase the brush size, scribble a bit, decrease the size, scribble some more. if it has blending properties, grab another color and scribble on that scribble and see how they blend. If you’re still liking it, doodle out a cat or a leaf or a little bug with a knife or.. you get it. You’ll get a feel for a brush as you use it, and you can tell if you like it. If you don’t like it? Move on to the next one!

This is true for every stage of drawing! You found a brush you like to sketch with? Great! Sketch something so you can play around with lining brushes! The worst that can happen is you get half way in and don’t like how the lines look or feel. You can delete the layer and start over with a brush you like better. You’re getting practice with lining! 

As you’re just playing around with brushes, you’re ALSO practicing drawing. Cool, huh? :3

-Ask other artists for their brushes/brush settings.

This one is obviously on a case by case basis, and you should be respectful of what an artist has said beforehand, and their response after you ask. Some artists aren’t comfortable sharing for one reason or another, and those boundaries should be respected.

There are just as many of us that are more than happy to help, though! Some make their own brushes are are happy to share, or sell their brushes publicly already. Some of us (like myself) have bought our brushes off personal sites or sites like gumroad and would be happy to point you in that direction towards what we personally use and can recommend. 

-Grab cheap, or even better, FREE brushes when they show up!

Occasionally, people will reblog/retweet brushes they’ve found on the clip asset store or have put up themselves on aforementioned sites. They’re usually only a few bucks at most, and very often free with the original creator leaving it open to what the person wants to pay. It’s a very risk free way to pick up brushes to play with! At worst, you don’t click with it and you can delete the brush.

You can obviously also go browsing through these resources yourself for brushes and brush packs that look interesting to you!

-Just because something is labeled a sketch/lining/painting brush, doesn’t mean you have to use it that way.

This one is a bit sneaky, so don’t tell anyone, but you can use any brush however it feels best to you. No one will get mad. No one will get mad at you if you use the same one brush for every single stage of a drawing, even.

If that hard edged lining brush feels great to sketch with? Do it! If the soft edge on your lines that that shading brush offers makes you happy? That’s what art is about.

-Have multiple brushes of any one kind.

This one is a very loose suggestion, and just one that works for me, so don’t worry about it too much, but I figured I’d include it anyways! 

Sometimes, a brush just... Feels Off some days and nothing you draw comes out well. Sometimes, a solution is switching to another brush. That can be hard if you haven’t taken the time beforehand to find a couple extra brushes, and you’ll just... lose motivation to draw entirely, and that sucks.

I currently have three sketching brushes and swap between them freely depending on how I’m feeling, and how they feel to me!

*The exception to this is if you’re a commission artist, doing commissions. Your customers are expecting a quality and style from you, so do your best to give them what they’re paying for. If you can’t work with brushes you have before, talk to them! Most people won’t really notice much of a change and are there for your overall style anyways, but it’s most polite to be transparent that something will be different than assume it will be fine. It really is better to ask permission than forgiveness, turns out.

-Use the tools at your disposal!

This is referring to both in-program tools and art tools in general! CSP has a built in 3D model program that you can use to help with posing. It exists to help you. Stabilizers on brushes aren’t cheating, symmetry rulers aren’t cheating. If it exists in the program, use it.

Out of program? Use references. Use pictures of real people, of real animals, of real cities and plants and water and clothes and crystals and and and

If you don’t know how to draw it, look it up. 

There are tutorials on how to paint digitally, and how to do 3D modeling.

You can teach yourself... just about anything. The tools are there, and they’re there to help you. Don’t be afraid to use them.

-Practice, and have fun!

I know this one is kinda hard sometimes, but art really is supposed to be fun. 

Draw the things you love. Draw your ocs, and your favorite cartoon characters, and things for your friends. Watch them light up. Draw the things kid you never could. Draw things to make them happy. Draw things to make you happy. 

If you’re unhappy with something in your style, it means: A) You’re good enough to see that something’s wrong, and B) You do have the ability to fix it. You have resources at your disposal to improve. You have time to improve. You just have to let yourself, you know? 

Don’t give up on this. It’s so worth it, I promise.

lots and lots of practice honestly! <- yeah you get told this a lot dont ya LMAO but it geniunely is !!! just draw every single day, even if its just ateeny doodle or a smiley face :) , itll help somewhat!

a huge part of it is studying other's art. the art world is so so shitty to newer artists, "NO TAKING INSPIRATION I WILL MURDER YOU!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡 ILL POST 10 BULLETINS ATTACKING YOU BECAUSE YOU USED THE SAME COLOUR AS ME >:(((" <- looking at a very few specific artists here ...

but in reality learning from other artists is INCREDIBLY helpful!

some of my favourite art has come from an artist named tillie walden, and i studied her art for ages and tried to emulate what she does with colours,, i ended up straying towards a more bright/rainbow path but her artstyle has absolutely influenced mine!

as well as TONS of people on toyhouse/twitter, like sometimes ill see a piece and be like "oh i love how that artist shades hair! ill have to try it out sometime ^__^"

or people on tiktok, posting speedpaints, "thats a really interesting way to sketch, and i like the end result, maybe i should try something like that!"

its just taking teeny tidbits from artwork you like and adding it to your own art! also a lot of watching youtube videos on colour theory

Are you accepting commissions?

No, I'm not right now. tbh commissions stress me out a lot lol, and i kind of function on a "i can only get myself to work on this if i am personally invested in it" type basis, and people like to commission for fandoms that i'm not always in - which makes it super hard for me to work on! AHH. if i ever do open them up though, you'll see a post about it! :D

Update: I am! Currently they’re closed to the larger public, as I’m doing limited comms for some friends in discord servers first as a bit of a test run. (You might have seen me post a few things!!) But it’s been going well! I think once I’m through with these, I’ll open up comms for realsies. ^^ Keep an eye out for the post!

Do you do drawing requests?

Yep! Not all the time - only every now and then, and I usually only allow for about 3 requests. I make a post every time I open them up, and it's usually updated (all the slots filled) within a few hours or so. If you don't see a recent post about requests being open, or see it on the pinned post announcements, then they aren't open atm. :)

Do you draw NSFW?

This is a new development - but lmao yeah I do! However, you almost certainly won’t be seeing it show up on my art blog here. For the most part, I try to limit myself to “suggestive” rather than straight up nsfw when I post art. That means I won’t really be taking requests (or comms) for NSFW, either, not to mention I’m only just getting a handle on drawing it.

That being said - PLEASE don't send me messages about NSFW things, or with NSFW content or images. I’m talking asks, mostly. That shit gets deleted fam. >:T That would include like, something super gore-y or needlessly gross, btw. I'd rather just avoid people trying to show me that stuff all together.

Please also don’t send me unsolicited NSFW, either. I love my followers! But receiving like - explicit excerpts or images from someone I don’t know, but that follows me, is very jarring.

Again, that being said - if you want to write or draw something based off of one of my more suggestive doodles, just let me know!!! I’d LOVE to know!!!Asking for permission and then writing and posting something to Ao3 or what have you is a totally different ball game than dm-ing me something unprompted/un-solicited.

Do you reblog NSFW?

Like I’ve said before - I have zero problem with NSFW. I’m not going to reblog explicit NSFW content here - if I ever had a need to, I guess I’d make a side blog for it? BUT

Every now and then I might reblog some suggestive content or something with some partial nudity. Whenever that happens, I’ll tag the post for people who want to avoid that content - typically with these tags!
