"Warped tour here we come". You cheered as you started loading your bag into the tour bus.

"This year is going to be great". Chris kissed your lips.

"And why is that"?

"Because you're here and we can have tons of sex".

"That's the only reason"?

"No, I'm glad you're here with me. We get to spend time together and go to concerts like normal couples".

"That sounds truly romantic, Chris. I love you".

"I love you too". He kissed you again, picking you up and throwing you over his shoulder smacking your ass on the way to the door.

"Crazy goon, put me down". He threw you on the couch. You landed with a thud and your head landed in Ryan's lap.

"Hi there". You smiled looking up at him. Ryan was not impressed.

"Hi".

"Chris come get your girlfriend out of my lap and put her in yours".

"She's yours. I need a break she's been on my lap all night". Chris laughed as you gasped getting off Ryan.

"You liar. He's been in my lap the whole night".

"I really don't want to hear about your sex life. Please shut up".

"Oh Ryan, you love me".

"The jury is still out on that". Ryan chuckled as he went back to his phone.

"Babe, I'm going to lay down for a bit". You told Chris.

"You okay. Don't tell me you're getting sick we just started warped tour".

"No just tired. I didnt get much sleep last night". You winked at Chris as Ryan groaned.

"I'm still here hearing about your sex life".

"Good night". You kissed his lips and headed off to his bunk.

You must have slept for hours because when you woke up you were already there. The guys were walking around getting to know the band's that were playing.

Getting out of bed your head started to feel dizzy as you stood up. You quickly sat back down. Feeling nauseous and light headed you crawled back into bed and tried going back to sleep. You shrugged it off as the motion of the bus moving.

"Y/N"? Feeling a hand shake you a groan came from you.

"What"?

"You're missing all the fun". It was Chris.

"I'm not in the mood for fun. I don't feel good".

"What's wrong"?

"I think the bus ride made me dizzy and nauseous".

"Yeah that can happen if you haven't been on a long bus ride before. It will get better. You need anything"?

"No I'm good. Going to try and sleep some more".

"Okay. Rest well". Chris kissed your temple and rubbed your leg before leaving.

The night came Chris and the band were back inside they were up front talking and laughing. A very awful taste came into your mouth as you were sleeping. You tried swallowing it down but the more you swallowed the stronger the urge got to throw up.

"Oh fuck". You covered your mouth throwing yourself off the bed and leaped over the piles of bags and clothes in the floor and bolted to the bus bathroom.

Blech blech. The sounds of your lunch hit the toilet. Your eyes were watering and you throat burned.

"What is that"? Ricky asked, quieting everyone down.

"Everyone's here". Balz looked around.

"Y/N". Chris yelled sprinting to the bathroom. He knocked on the door.

"Y/N, you okay"?

"No". You gagged as a piece of food got stuck in your throat.

"I get you a sprite and some crackers". You heard him walk away.

"What's happened"? Ricky questioned.

"She's sick. I think she has motion sickness from the bus". Chris grabbed a can of sprite and a sleeve of crackers heading back to you.

"Hope she feels better".

Chris knocked again then came in. You sat on the floor with a rag on your face.

"Here you go". Chris popped the top on the can and handed it to you.

"Thanks". You cleared your throat. It was hurting and you sounded terrible. You haven't thrown up this much since the last time you got food poisoning at the seafood restaurant that Chris took you for your birthday six months ago.

"I'm sorry". He crouched beside you. Removing the wash cloth you eyed him.

"It's not your fault. I'm just not use to it like you are. I'll be better tomorrow".

"Do you need anything like motion sickness medicine"?

"No. Just leave me the bathroom, keep me in sprite and just love me".

"I can do that". He chuckled.

"Oh and guess what"?

"What"?

"Slipknot is playing one show here. They're the special guest".

"No f-ing way".

"So you need to get better. I want to take you to their concert".

"I'm already better. It's a date". You blew a kiss to him when he closed the door checking on you before he left.

Two days have past and you sickness hasn't stopped. Chris was getting worried but you just shrugged it off until you felt you threw up a lung. Your back hurt and you didn't feel like yourself.

"I'm taking you to the hospital". Chris grabbed your bag and started putting clothes in it.

"I'm not going to the hospital. I'm fine. This will pass".

"You haven't ate a proper meal in three days. You live on sprite and crackers. That's not healthy".

"Chris".

"Please go. For me"? He looked at you with those puppy dog eyes.

"Fine but under one condition".

"What"?

"You can't go". Chris shook his head.

"No, I'm going to be there. What if something is wrong"?

"Then I will call you".

"What if you dont have time? They will take you to surgery and I will never know".

"I'm going alone or not at all".

"Okay you dont want me to go the you're going with Ryan".

"Ryan"?

"Yes".

"Ask him, he's going to say no".

"Ryan will you take Y/N to the hospital"? Chris asked Ryan who was sitting in his bunk playing a game.

"Yeah".

"Ryan you're supposed to say no".

"You really need to go. I will wait out in the waiting room for you".

"Fine. Let's go". You groaned. Getting out of your nice warm bunk.

Ryan and you waited in the waiting room what seemed like forever but it was only twenties minutes. You had thrown up six times in that time. The nurse was afraid you would pass out.

"We are the only ones here what is taking so long"? Ryan bounced his leg.

"We might be the only ones you see but this hospital is probably filled with a lot of people. If you don't want to be here then you can go"?

"No, I told Chris I would take you and I am".

"I just hate hospitals".

"I know. Me too. Just relax and play on your phone".

"It dying". Ryan huffed.

"Here play on mine". You handed him your phone.

"Thanks".

"Miss Y/L/N"? A nurse called you.

"Here". You smiled at Ryan and followed the nurse. Ryan sat there quietly playing on your phone, texting Chris every few minutes with up dates.

"So miss Y/L/N, what brings you in here today"? Your doctor asked as she looked at your chart.

"I'm on tour with my boyfriend and we ride in a tour bus so the day we got to the site I got this feeling of nausea and I was dizzy. I thought it was just motion sickness but this has been going on for three days now, it's gotten worse and it doesn't seem to be letting up any time soon".

"Okay, lets take a look at you and see what we can do". You laid down on the exam table. She lifted up your shirt and started touching your stomach.

"I'm guessing you are sexually active"?

"Yes but we always use condoms".

"Are you on birth control"?

"No, I have really bad side effects in using birth control so I don't take any".

"Okay".

"I'm going to run a few test and see maybe something will show up".

"Fine".

The nurse came and drew blood and she hooked you to a IV you were dehydrated from all the throwing up.

"Everything has came back normal except one".

"Oh god".

"You're pregnant. Congratulations".

"What? How? I mean I know how but woah".

"I'd say you're about six months".

"Six months"?

"Yes".

"Can you get morning sickness after you find out"?

"Some have morning sickness through out the pregnancy and others only get it some on and off". "Why do ask"?

"Six months again I got food poisoning or could I have been pregnant at the time and it was just telling me and I didn't listen"?

"You may have been. Did you go to the doctor"?

"No. It was over in twenty-four hours".

"Then you may have been. It's highly likely".

"This is insane, really". Your mind was blown.

"Do you want to keep it"?

"Yes. Yes. I'm happy its just very unexpected thats all". "I came in here thinking I'm dying and I'm just pregnant".

"How did I not know"?

"The baby was probably playing hide and seek with you coming out at night and hiding during the day. Has you appetite increased"?

"Yeah but I was under stress so I thought stress eating".

"Well you're pregnant and not dying so you're boyfriend is going to get a shock of his life". She said with a chuckle.

"Yeah he is".

After the doctors you went to get something to eat. She had given you motion sickness pills to help you eat. Ryan was asking all sorts of questions on the way there.

"Are you okay"?

"Ryan yes. I'm just hungry". You said taking a bite out of your burger. "Mmmmmm, so good".

"Did she drug you"?

"No".

"Then why all of the sudden can you eat"?

"She gave me motion sickness meds and I'm pregnant".

"What"!!

"I'm pregnant and if you tell Chris before I do you'll never be able to play a guitar again".

"What"?!!! He was stunned. It wasn't even his kid and he was shocked.

"I'm pregnant". You took the last bite of your burger.

"I didn't know you two were trying"?

"We weren't. It just happened. Can you get me another burger"?

"Here you can have mine". Ryan handed you his burger.

"You think its a bad idea that I keep the baby"?

"No, I just can't believe that Chris is the first one to have a kid. I thought it would be Ricky or Vinny".

"Vinny? He's still a kid". You giggled.

"Exactly, they can learn to grow up together".

"Seriously though, I'm happy for you". He gave you a shy smile.

"Thanks Ryan".

"Now let's get you back before Chris has my head".

"Do you know the stage manager for slipknot"?

"Yeah"?

"Can you give them a call? I need to talk to them".

"Okay"? Ryan took out his phone and handed it to you. The drive back to warped tour you were planning something for Chris.

"Y/N". Chris wrapped his long arms around your waist.

"How did it go"?

"I was dehydrated and she just gave me meds for the nausea".

"That's all"?

"Yeah". You looked at Ryan who was hiding his face. He really couldnt keep a secret as big as this from Chris.

"Ryan"?

"Yeah, everything's good. But...". You gulped when Ryan said but.

"She has her appetite back so we may need more food". Thank God he didn't say anything.

"I figured she would. Im glad you're fine". "Are you ready to party tonight"?

"Yeah, I'm waiting for that date".

"They're about to go on. You want to head over there"?

"Yeah". You wrapped your arm around his waist his arm around your shoulder and walked to the Slipknot stage.

"Come on". You pulled Chris to the back with the Slipknot crew.

"We can't be back here". Chris sneaked in as you giggled.

"Y/N"? The manager waved you over.

"Wait, you know him"? Chris was in aww.

"Hey there".

"After the last song you can go on there".

"Thank you so much".

"No problem". He said with a smile.

"You're fucking kidding me? We're going on stage with Slipknot"? Chris was acting like a kid in a candy store.

"Yes".

"How"?

"I have connections". Chris kissed you hard and passionate.

It was the second to last song. You and Chris were rocking out to one of Chris's favorite songs. You're surprised Chris hasn't gotten whiplash but you'd worry about that later. He was is happy.

You could hear Corey tell the audience that the lead singer of Motionless in white is coming on stage with his girlfriend.

"That's your queue". The manager pointed to the front.

"Lets go". You grabbed Chris's sweaty hand and pulled him on stage. His face was frozen. He was nervous being there with a person he looked up to.

"Hi ya doing Chris"? Corey asked.

"Great". Chris mumbled into the mic.

"Wonderful, now this little lady has something to tell you". He handed you the mic.

"Chris, I'm having so much fun with you in this fairy tale and I think it's time we add a new chapter to it".

"I'm pregnant".

Chris starred at you with a blank expression. You understand that it was a shock but this was funny.

"You okay there pal"? Corey asked Chris who nodded and mumbled a few words.

"You sure, do we need a medic"?

"No".

"So, what do you think"?

"We're going to need a bigger tour bus". Chris ran his hand through his hair.

"Yeah but are you happy"?

"Yes. Fuck yes". He hugged you tightly swirling you around on stage.

"Give a round of applause for the new parents". Corey clapped. Chris quickly hugged him and squealed. You didn't know if he was happy about the baby or hugging Corey Taylor.

"I'm so fucking happy". Chris screamed, you giggled hugging him.

"I love you".

"I love you too". Chris kissed you sweetly with his hand on your belly.

Chris was truly happy until you told him that you were six months along then he fainted. He thought he had some time to get things ready but the baby would be here in no time. The guys still couldnt believe that Chris was the first to knock a girl up and become a dad when you told them.

Shouting In Cafes: Chapter Two

Downsides Of Revenge

If possible, second impressions go even worse. And this time, he doesn’t even have the excuse of being hungover. As much as he wished he was.

Neptune laid in bed, phone on his chest, hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling. His hangover had finally worn off and he was starting to regret everything. Why had he initiated anything? He should’ve just acted passively annoyed and let the guy - Sun right? - figure out how much of a dick he was being by himself.

Why the hell did he tell him he had nice pecs?

He wasn’t in his right mind when he was hungover. That was apparent.

So, now he was debating whether he should actually call this girl and get one last blow in. It was a shady move. Using a girl for petty revenge. Was he really that kind of guy? What had Sun really done to him?

Neptune considered opening the bottle of replacement-wine he’d just bought.

No. Stop. He needed to stop. He wasn’t using a girl to get back at a guy he met once who kind of pissed him off. He needed to sleep. He needed to get his shit together.

He’d take care of it in the morning.

“Well, hello, sunshine.” Jaune greeted a drowsy, rumpled Neptune with a broom in his hand and a flower from one of his sisters stuck awkwardly into his blonde curls.

Morning light streamed through the windows of the empty coffee shop, the smell of fresh coffee and Jaune’s careful sweeps across the tile floor the only indication that the building was open. Neptune checked his watch. 7:05 AM. They didn’t get customers until around nine. They had some time to kill.

Neptune rubbed at the bags under his eyes with the heel of his hand. “Do I look that bad?”

“Yes.”

“Thanks.” He shoved his card into the slot to clock in with a little more force than needed.

“Not enough sleep?”

“I went to bed at like nine but kept waking up in the middle of the night.”

“Nightmares?”

“Stress dreams, more like.”

“Are you still trying to be mad about that guy?”

“I’m not trying! And no. I don’t know.”

“Did you get your revenge?”

“I’m not going to sleep with somebody’s girlfriend out of spite. Even if she’s dating a douche. She seemed pretty nasty herself.”

“Hm. She did give you her number while she was on a date, didn’t she?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you even know her name?”

“No.”

“Well then, that settles that!” Jaune plucked the flower from his hair and tucked it behind Neptune’s ear, poking his friend in the eye in the process. “Don’t worry about it. I’m sure you’ll never see either of them again, anyway.”

Jaune’s soft smiles were one of the only things that could warm Neptune’s heart. He tried not to show any emotion other than general annoyance whenever he could, but Jaune never failed to see right through him. He appreciated that sometimes.

But right now, Neptune couldn’t tell if he wanted to be annoyed by Jaune’s optimism or not. He settled on giving him a soft smile. He tried harder than most people he knew. “Thanks, Jaune.”

“No problem. You’re on register today.”

“God dammit, Jaune.”

The day was slow. Slower than usual. By three in the afternoon, they had only had five customers. Neptune caught himself falling asleep a couple times while standing up, which could not be healthy. Had he done his homework? God, he didn’t remember. All he remembered doing last night was staring at his phone and contemplating whether he wanted to be an asshole or not.

No homework then. He could do it before class. After work. How much longer did he have?

The door opened. Shoes smacked against the floor.

“Welcome to The Daily Grind. What can I get for you to-”

It was the dickhead. And his girlfriend. Again.

Neptune took a breath. Cleared his throat. “Welcome to The Daily Grind. What can I get for you today?”

The guy- Sun? -hunched his bare shoulders up to his ears. He was wearing one of those tank tops that had nearly the entire side of them cut out of them so you got a healthy dose of chest no matter what angle you were looking on from. They were nice shoulders. He didn’t deserve nice shoulders.

Thankfully, his expression took away from his body. Cocky and whimsical and snarky, like he knew everything you didn’t. “What? Not hungover today? No sleazy remarks?”

God, he commented on how nice his pecs were yesterday, didn’t he? No. God, no, of God why. Why would he let him have the upper hand like that? Bad move, bad move. Wine did bad things to him. Never again. Or at least he’d settle for never that much.

Embarrassment flooded to his cheeks and he tried to choke it back down. “Could I please take your order.”

Sun forced his palms against the table, winking and flashing a toothy grin. “What? No guts now that you don’t have some booze in you?”

“I’m working. Please keep your voice down.” Neptune let himself wonder if Sun could ever be quieter than a jackhammer.

“You were working yesterday, too! But that didn’t stop you from saying that my pecs were nice!”

Neptune leaned forward. “I like complimenting a handsome man when I see one, but no matter how nice your body is, your personality reeks of frat boy and beer.”

Sun’s date appeared beside him, grinning at Neptune from ear to ear. Sun’s face melted into pouted lips and a worried brow, like Neptune had actually offended him. Neptune felt victorious for a moment, before more heat rose to his face.

He was at work. All three of their other customers were staring at him.

Neptune coughed and picked up some cups and a sharpie, staring straight at the plastic. “What will your orders be today?”

“Grande white mocha and a plain cappuccino,” Sun said.

“Right.”

There was a silent exchange of a credit card and a receipt. Neptune’s blush was finally fading away. Just as Sun and his date were walking away, Sun turned back around and asked, “Are you gay?”

Neptune tensed, mouth slack in shock. Finally he managed to stutter out, “Your order is almost ready, Sun.”

They stared at each other for a moment more before Sun spun on his heel and walked away.

“He asked me if I was gay,” Neptune said in a hushed voice, fingers pressed to his temples, head bowed to the floor. “Is this real life? Did someone just ask their fucking barista if they were gay?!”

“Were you acting gay?” Jaune asked.

“Jaune!” Neptune hissed, sounding scandalized.

“It’s a genuine question.”

“I said I liked complimenting handsome men. I kind of implied that he was a handsome man.”

“That’s pretty gay.”

“That’s not the point!” Neptune nearly yelled before gathering himself. “You don’t ask your barista if they’re gay! What?! No! You don’t do that. Who the hell does that? This guy, apparently!”

“Neptune.”

“I’m sorry, dude, but honestly what the fuck. I can’t believe this. Who acts like this?”

“Neptune, I understand, but calm down. Take a breath.”

“I have to retaliate.”

“No, you don’t.”

“I’m texting his girlfriend.”

“No, you’re not.”

Neptune pulled out his phone. “Then tell me what I’m doing right now.”

“Oh my god.”

He rummaged through his pockets and pulled out the crumpled straw wrapper, plugging in each digit into his phone. He thumbed the text icon and typed out a message.

Ocean Man: Hey this is the barista at the daily grind. I never caught your name.

“Sent it,” Neptune said and waggled the phone in front of Jaune’s face.

“I can’t believe you,” Jaune sighed.

“I’m probably going to regret this later.”

“You definitely are.”

They both watched as Sun’s date sipped her coffee, set it down, and looked at her phone. Sun was too engrossed in his own storytelling to notice the smile that pulled on her lips or how fast her thumbs typed on the keyboard.

A few seconds later, Neptune’s phone buzzed. Neptune puffed out a sigh. Guess he was doing this.

No Contact: Aria. And you?

Ocean Man: Neptune vasilias. Nice to meet you aria. Quick question. Why are you going out on a date with that guy? You dont seem to like him.

No Contact: He’s hot and he asked me out. Quickly finding that his personality sucks. You’re cuter. Wanna hang?

Neptune gave his phone a sour expression. No matter if the guy was a dick, you should at least finish the date before setting up a new one with someone else.

Jaune read over his shoulder. “Yikes.”

“Yeah.”

Neptune looked up and across the cafe to find Aria looking over her shoulder, smiling, and waving at him. No.

And Sun was glaring straight at him. No.

Was this what he wanted?

Sun stood up, nearly knocking his chair over backwards as he stomped back to the bar.

“Is this what you wanted?” Jaune asked, echoing his thoughts.

“What do you want exactly?” Sun questioned, pushing a finger into the middle of Neptune’s chest. “To piss me off? Is that why you’re flirting with my date in front of me?”

“Look. You might be an ass but she’s the one who gave me her number while you two were here yesterday. You might want to find someone who actually likes you.”

Neptune could hear Aria squeak in outrage from the other side of the cafe.

“Fine! But that doesn’t explain why you actually texted her!”

“I think I wanted to make you mad.”

“What the hell!”

“You asked me, your barista that you don’t know the name of, if I was gay!”

“You were acting pretty gay!” Sun exclaimed, as if that explained everything.

“So what?!”

“I dunno! But you obviously aren’t because you’re flirting with my date!”

“Why do you still care? She doesn’t like you!”

Jaune stepped to the side of Neptune. “Dude, you might wanna stop.”

Neptune didn’t stop. “I’m not having the best time right now! I got dumped two days ago, got painfully drunk and hungover and have had to deal with you repeatedly!”

“Neptune,” Jaune warned.

“You’re just a shitty frat boy! Why the hell are you in a tiny coffee house on a date at three in the afternoon?”

“I get free coffee here!” Sun yelled. Not that it made a difference, his only volume setting was yelling.

“No, you don’t, you id-”

“My mom owns this place!”

Neptune went quiet. He stared at the fury burning in Sun’s eyes, white teeth bared, flimsy tank top threatening to fall off.

For once, he had no words. Well almost no words. Thank you Mama Vasilias, for your words of wisdom for these troubling times. Words that had helped him through many hardships before. Words straight from the old country.

“Merda,” Neptune muttered, his eyes wide and his jaw hanging open.

Pt.1

"Is that foreigner the manager from that viral video?" Byeongkwan wondered aloud as a new boy group and their staff hustled down the hall to their waiting room.

The other boys of A.C.E craned their heads to look after the receding backs of the rookies. "It has to be right? There's not exactly a lot of foreigners that work as managers." Chan said thoughtfully.

"What video? What?" Jun asked, clueless as to what his younger members were talking about. Seyoon and Donghun turned back as well as Byeongkwan pulled out his phone.

"This video went viral last week cause a sasaeng tried to grab a member but their manager stepped in." He pulled up the clip and showed it to his hyungs.

The video showed the rookie group making their way into a building when someone rushed up and grabbed one of the younger members, he didnt look to be older than maybe fifteen. Before the boy had any chance to react beyond an obvious expression of fear, a tall female foreigner with light brown short hair in a wolf style cut, and a very fit physique, stepped between him and the fan, forcing her grip to break. The manager didnt break step at all as she put her arm behind the boys to keep them moving, a quelling expression on her face as she maintained eye contact with the sasaeng for a few seconds before security stepped in to remove the troublemaker. The sasaeng had looked startled herself for a moment before becoming visibly upset at the interruption.

"Woah, awesome." Jun responded, eyebrows high, "That was so smooth."

"That was cool." Seyoon nodded in agreement and instinctively glanced up to see if any of the staff was still in sight, though they were long gone.

"She didnt get in trouble did she?" Asked Donghun with a slight frown.

"I don't know, she was just here so maybe not?" Byeongkwan shrugged, putting his phone away and also glancing down the hall again.

"She didnt get in trouble." The boys jumped, not noticing their own manager, Minseok, having come up behind them as they were watching the video, "Sorry, didnt mean to scare you." He grinned.

"Aaahhhh, you scared me hyung." Chan whined, rubbing his beating heart.

"How do you know she didnt get in trouble?" Donghun asked curiously.

"I've chatted with her in the manager room. She's an interesting person." Before the boys had a chance to ask what he meant he changed the subject, "anyway get ready to go, it's almost our turn." They wasted no time switching to work mode and moving out.

"To a successful third week!" Guerin called out, holding up her shot glass. The two other managers met her cheers and they all drank their soju.

"For you! It's only been one week for me." Minseok shook his head as he automatically refilled the shots for the other two. Guerin chuckled and immediately refilled his as well. Politely speaking it should have been Jinyoung's job to do that but Guerin was an enthusiastic foreigner so neither of then bothered to correct her this time.

"Well thanks anyway for meeting me out. It's been fun but very tiring!" She added, setting the soju bottle down, then picking out one of the many late night snacks they had ordered and munching happily. While officially working she kept her makeup and jewelry fairly neutral she took socializing as an opportunity to match her looks to her personality. Today she wore an orange lip stain with light orange and yellow on her eyelids. Her normal earlobe studs were replaced with fun mismatched dangling earrings drawing attention to the rainbow feather tattoo behind her right ear.

"Ya, why do you keep looking at your phone?" Jinyoung challenged Minseok as it buzzed again. It had been going off fairly frequently for the past twenty minutes.

"Is it your girlfriend? Tell her to join us! The more the merrier." Guerin mentioned through her chewing.

"Funny you should say that..." Minseok trailed off with a guilty expression. The other two paused to look at him, Guerin already with another bite halfway into her mouth. "Its not my girlfriend, but I've just been informed we're getting company."

Her expression quizzical, she shrugged and stuffed the large bite of food into her mouth. It turned out to be poor timing.

"Hyung!" A man's voice exclaimed, approaching their table. Guerin, with chopsticks still in her mouth, cheek bulging, peaked up to see three members of Minseok's charges, A.C.E, coming toward them. She dropped her chopsticks as Minseok and Jinyoung stood to greet the newcomers. "Oh shi-" she started in english stopping just in time and jumping up as well, hitting the table with a loud clatter. She covered her mouth as the others and some surrounding people looked at her and hurriedly tried to swallow while bowing apologetically. Now standing at their table with alternating combinations of hoods, hats, masks and glasses was Seyoon, Byeongkwan and Donghun.

Minseok and Jinyoung looked amused, Byeongkwan and Donghun seemed concerned and Seyoon had his standard smile in place as she managed to quickly choke down her food at greet them. Minseok introduced everyone in the meantime, before turning to them after everyone sat back down.

"Guerin? Isn't that a Korean name? Where are you from?" Byeongkwan asked curiously.

"Oh, I'm from America but my name is difficult for Koreans to pronounce so I chose a Korean name." Guerin explained.

"I was going to bring food back." Minseok said almost defensively to the trio of unexpected guests.

"We know we just didnt want to wait." Donghun said.

"We also wanted to meet your friends." Seyoon said, looking at Guerin.

"You've already met me." Jinyoung responded looking at them as though waiting for the full story.

There was a beat as Guerin looked around and just as she filled in the blanks Byeongkwan confirmed, "We wanted to meet Guerin."

"What? Why?" She asked, confused.

"You're famous." Donghun said before turning to Minseok, "Can we join you? Should we order more Soju?" Minseok sighed and nodded, signaling to the server and calling for more Soju.

"Let's order more snacks too." Seyoon piped up.

"Oh, please help yourself, eat as much as you want." Guerin gestured to the selection of food.

"They need to keep to their diet-" Minseok started and Guerin gave him a look, "They're healthy, active young men. They work hard and they deserve to eat."

Minseok rolled his eyes, he had heard this before. Jinyoung piped up jokingly, "She just wants to make them fat to decrease competition."

Guerin gave the same stern look to Jinyoung, "Excuse me I make sure my boys eat very well. I refused to allow them to be unhealthy for aesthetics. Besides. A splurge once in a while never hurt anyone." She finished the sentence with another mouthful of food.

Seyoon looked at Minseok, "Can she be our new manager?"

Byeongkwan and Donghun raised their newly filled shot glasses for a cheers the Guerin heartily joined with the three boys while Minseok and Jinyoung shook their heads pretending to be offended.

"We got a glimpse of that famous expression you made." Donghun said after the cheers.

Guerin set her glass down and proceeded to refill everyone's shot glasses.

"Ahhhh I see. You're talking about that video with the sasaeng." There was a reserved tone to her voice as she glanced at each of their faces to read their expressions. No one spoke for a moment as she waited for their confirmation and they struggled to find the words they wanted. "Please dont worry about offending me, you can be... ah what's the word I want? Frank? Direct? Honest? Straightforward? Aahhh informal?" She settled on the word she knew after floundering in English for a moment.

"Direct." Byeongkwan added helpfully.

"Yeah, exactly. You can be direct." She smiled taking another sip of soju.

"Did your company scold you?" Seyoon asked.

"Hmmm, not really? They understood my reaction but there was some negative feedback from netizens so we had a talk about what to do next time." Guerin frowned and took another bite of food.

"What were people complaining about?" Byeongkwan asked around a mouthful of food.

"Mostly that I looked scary or acted to aggressively. Honestly most of the responses were very positive and supportive. They saw I was trying to protect the boys. I was very touched by a lot of comments." She smiled softly glancing away with an almost shy expression. "I was really only bothered by the ones criticizing Seungbin for not standing up for himself." Her expression changed again as she frowned the shrugged and looked up.

"It could look bad to some that a man needs to be protected by a woman." Donghun added thoughtlessly. Both Seyoon and Byeongkwan looked at him in alarm. He immediately panicked seeing their expression and the raised eyebrows on Guerin, "I didnt mean it like that I just meant that's what other people migh-"

"I get it." Guerin finished her shot then indicated Donghun to fill her glass with a playful wink as he obliged looking guilty. Seyoon shoved him playfully.

"It was one of the sentiments. As a man he should have done something himself. For starters he's very young, he is only fifteen and a very slight frame at that. Even then, an idol has to be careful with their image, they cant be seen being rude to fans, even terrible sasaengs. Additionally they've just debuted, so not only is their image even more impressionable, but it's not something he has experienced before. He was frightened and shocked. There is no shame in that. Lastly, I used to work in security so my response wasnt planned, I just saw someone who was in trouble and reacted." She gestured to Donghuns glass encouraging him to drink with her. They clinked glasses and drank together.

"Noona, you're drinking a lot." Jinyoung nagged playfully.

She looked surprised, "It's just soju and I've only had about five shots." She looked at the alcohol content on the bottles and laughed, "this is nothing! I'm feeling very pleasant right now."

Minseok sighed, "Noona you sound like an old man." She stuck her tongue out at him in response.

"Maybe if you babies were better at drinking you wouldnt need to shame my talents." Minseok pretended offense and Jinyoung raised his hand with a fake attempt to smack. "Aaahhh see what happens." She teased him and he sighed and looked away, calling for another bottle of soju.

She turned back to the A.C.E members that had been digging into the food on the table, "I love seeing our kids eat well." She patted her own cheeks with a cute smile.

"AWW NO NOONA not your aegyo ugh." Minseok complained loudly.

"I didnt mean to aahhh it just happened I was so happy." She covered her face but couldnt hide her embarrassed laugh.

"Hyung no, it was cute!" Seyoon interjected.

"You only say that cause she wants to stuff you full of food!" Jinyoung interjected, "you wouldnt say that if you had to see that all the time."

Guerin smacked Jinyoung lightly on the arm and ignored him as he pretended serious injury, "yah, you heard him. I'm CUTE." She shot Seyoon a cutesy wink and peace sign and his smile froze in place before he shot back his own wink and finger hearts. Byeongkwan and Donghun jumped onto scolding him while Guerin held a hand to her heart, as she played along.

Once they finished goofing off Byeongkwan spoke up again, "Guerin-SSI-"

"Just call her Noona, it makes her happy." Minseok sighed, looking at his dumb foreigner friend as she shot him an exaggerated scrunched face smile before turning back to Byeongkwan.

"You dont have to call me noona if you dont want to. But you dont need to be formal with me, I prefer to be friendly." She clarified.

"Noona, you said you worked security? What was that like?"

"Ah! Yes! It was rad! It was awesome. I worked as an independent contractor so I did everything from bouncing at bars, to private events like wedding and fundraisers, or even big fancy events like fashion week." She pulled up a sleeve and flexed, flashing an impressive bicep and patting it proudly, "I liked the work, and I was good at it." She pulled her sleeve down, preening slightly at the impressed expressions on the faces of the men joining her at the table.

"Cool! Why did you stop?" Seyoon asked.

"Well I moved out here to teach English, but then I really loved it so I wanted to stay. A lot of security work here only pays well if you can be armed, but getting my license for that would be tricky because I'm a foreigner. So I wanted a job that would still let me help people but pay well and my friend suggested this to me." While she talked she served a piece of food to everyone at the table, gesturing that they eat more. "Now I just get my jollies by giving piggyback rides and challenging men to arm wrestle just to put them in their place. And also feeding babies." She teased, feeding Minseok directly as she said so.

"Ya." He protested around the food in his mouth.

"Shhhh baby, or I'll tell your boys how many times I beat you at arm wrestling." She said, posing cutely with her finger to her cheek and fluttering her eyelashes.

The table erupted in a mixture of approval and dismay, Guerin cackling at the response and ending with everyone doing another cheers and shot.

"Darn! We should have gone with you, she sounds cool." Chan said with a slight pout. It was the next day and they were all in the waiting room getting ready.

"She's just what Minseok said. Interesting." Seyoon nodded.

"Were a lot of foreigners like that when you lived overseas?" Jun questioned Byeongkwan.

"Not really. She definitely has taken up some Korean traits well but even then she's really forward and comfortable and..." he paused.

"Loud?" Donghun offered.

"Definitely loud." Seyoon nodded in agreement.

"Arent all foreigners loud?" Chan asked.

"Not as loud as me. Hi guys!"

"Noona!" Byeongkwan jumped up. Donghum and Seyoon looked shocked and embarrassed.

"Noona, we didnt mean it as a bad thing." Donghun said as he and Seyoon bowed. Chan and Jun bowed in greeting as well along with Guerin after she patted Byeongkwans shoulder fondly. She smiled in response.

"Not at all, I know I'm extra. It means I'm extra, I'm above and beyond the normal level. I'm not offended at all, most of all because it's the truth." She waved off their guilty expressions.

"Noona, this is Jun and Chan." Seyoon introduced the remaining A.C.E members.

"It's nice to meet you! You'll have to join us next time so I can feed you too!" She grinned at them, "You can call me Noona or Guerin, whichever you are most comfortable with."

"What brings you here?" Jun asked politely.

"Minseok said he was here, he left his airpods behind last night so I brought them to him, the lightweight." She joked.

"Stop talking trash behind my back." Minseok complained walking back into the room and handing each of the boys a beverage from the vending machines.

Turning to face him directly, "hello my favorite lightweight. You drunkenly left your toys behind after one bottle of soju but I'm here to save the day!" She held out his airpods, the pulled back abruptly, "hey wheres my drink?"

Minseok sighed, "Seriouslyyyy?" He whined and pouted lightly.

"Oh my god. No. So cute. Aahhhh." She handed over his airpods and averted her eyes, fanning herself. Minseok looked proud at his win for a fraction of a second before he met the gazes of all five A.C.E members.

"Hyung..." Jun said in shock.

"You've never..." Byeongkwan started. Seyoon and Chan just started giggling while Donghun visibly cringed.

"Oh you guys stop, it was cute. He did it for me cause I'm weak for that sh... that stuff." She pressed her lips together at her catch. "Anyway its time for me to head back to HEET. It was nice seeing you guys again, and nice meeting you Jun, Chan." She bowed and left.

The boys waited a moment before Chan spoke up, "Okay I think I see what you mean."

"She makes me feel like I've been in a pool too long." Minseok grumbled disingenuously before going to put his airpods away.

"I like her." Jun stated, "She seems fun."

The boys of A.C.E were surprised by the unexpected reception in the party room. As soon as the five boys entered there was loud cheering, shouts of "surprise!" And "congratulations!". For the first time since their debut they had finally gotten their first, second and third wins. It was an emotional time, and seeing so many familiar faces cheering them on didnt stop the tears.

Unexpectedly, outside of their usual staff and friends was HEET, Guerin (their manager) who had become more familiar and a second foreigner.

Guerin waited until last, sporting bright pink lipstick this time, then offered a hug of pride and congratulations to each of them that they accepted before she introduced her team HEET and her friend, "A.C.E, this is my friend Charlie." She grinned, "She works at the zoo as a vet intern, I've known her for a while and I think you'll get along."

The members were instantly interested, "The zoo?"

"That's incredible!"

"How cool!"

"Do you treat all the animals?"

Guerins pretty friend smiled shyly but proudly, her pink and purple hair standing out against her fair freckled skin. "I'm just an intern but I'm learning so much, and I'm getting a lot of hands on experience."

"Your korean is so good!" Donghun offered excitedly, smiling genuinely.

"What's your favorite animal to work with?" Jun asked, pushing past Chan and Donghun as Charlie blushed.

Guerin hung back, smiling proudly at her friend, Seyoon close by while his members grilled Charlie.

"It must be nice to have someone from a familiar culture close by." Seyoon said to the short haired woman, easily his equal in height.

"Yes! And she's amazing! I wanted to be a zookeeper too but..." Guerin's smile became somewhat forced, "Well, it didn't work out."

Seyoon didnt know how to respond to that. It was a public place and seemed like a sensitive topic so he said the first thing that came to his mind, "You should give me a piggyback ride."

Guerin almost choked as she was shocked into laughter, "A wh- you want a piggyback ride?"

"Yeah. We got our first three wins. You should give me a piggy back ride to the snacks."

Without any hesitation whatsoever Guerin offered her back, "Hop on the snack train."

Minhwan, the leader of HEET, saw her motion, "Noona no, please that-".

Before he could finish his sentence Seyoon had hopped on. If he had stopped to think for a fraction of a second he might have caught the panicked and frozen expressions of most of the other guests in attendance but there was a person to be cheered up and snacks to be had so he missed it until he had been dropped at the buffet table.

He was reaching for a plate to demand Guerin load it up for him as well before he caught the faces of those around him and hesitated. Guerin, however, either didnt notice or care as she took his plate. Seyoon watched as she loaded the dish with all kinds of foods, paying no attention to their caloric value or sodium levels before shoving it back to him.

"Here. Eat." Her face lit up with joy, from what he couldnt exactly tell. As she ushered him away he noticed she did the same thing for all the members of her group, loading them up with food and happily encouraging them to eat. HEET was a talented group from a new company, the boys had an age gap from 15 to 23 but all seemed well fed and athletic despite differing body types. Seyoon noticed these details through catching up with members from his own staff and munching through his heaped plate.

"So you've only been in korea for a year?" Chan asked in disbelief.

"Well, living here. I've taken language classes and visited Guerin while she was here so I knew I wanted to do more." Charlie looked shyly down, "I'm sorry, I know my korean isnt good."

"No, its amazing! You're doing so well!" Jun responded enthusiastically, "you must be excellent to be able to intern in the vet field!"

Charlie blushed and covered her face.

"Boys if you could let my friend breath that would be amazing." Guerin cut in.

"Ah, I'm sorry we didnt mean to embarrass you." Donghun turned polite as the three bowed apologetically.

"Just be nice to her. I know you have it in you. Chan, come here let me feed you." Guerin continued, dragging the maknae away toward the table where Byeongkwan hovered. Guerin wasted no time feeding up the two young men, ignoring any protests from Minseok about their diet.

"Can we make you a plate?" Jun asked Charlie, suddenly inspired.

"If you want to, if you're hungry too..." she trailed off, overwhelmed by shyness.

"We can share." Donghun said, stepping up with her and Junhee. Her face flushed a little at their proximity, they either didnt notice or didnt care.

As the party progressed A.C.E. made sure to make their rounds and thank their staff. Thrpughout the night Seyoon found himself with a desire to drift to Guerin over and over. Whether she was with Minseok or her charges or her friend he was drawn to her side. The downside is it often ended with what might be considered inappropriate interaction. Besides the piggyback ride she had given him, they had exchanged cringey aegyo to each other, clung to each other laughing and finally he had challenged her to arm wrestling.

"Really? You want to in front of everyone?" She asked with an expression of concern.

Seyoon waggled his eyebrows, "Loser buys meat."

"Oh, I guess we'll find out the limits of your food budget then." Guerin laughed.

Charlie didnt outright cheer Guerin on but she did let out a muffled laugh of anticipation heard only by Jun and Donghun who happened to be near her.

"Do you think Guerin can win?" Jun asked Charlie skeptically.

"Oh, yes. He might have a chance in leg wrestling. But Guerin focuses a lot on strength training. Dance will do a lot but..."

Donghun nodded, familiar with the concept from his period in the military. His psyhique had changed when it went from soldier to idol. Junhee nodded as well, a bit more idly as though he didnt quite buy it.

A table and chairs had been located as Seyoon refused to back down. The two contenders clasped hands and for a moment gazed directly into each others eyes.

Guerin inhaled and said quietly so only Seyoon could hear, "Ah, its cheating for you to be so handsome." After which she clinched her eyes shut and pressed with all her might. Seyoon, despite his surprise, recovered and fought against her as best he could but ultimately he lost.

Guerin was not a gracious winner. She stood up, both arms in the air and walked around the room to calls of support while Seyoon recovered. It was easier for him to pretend to wallow in shame than to acknowledge the flutter he had felt in his chest from her unexpected comment.

"Maybe he could beat you in leg wrestling!" Byeongkwan proudly shouted from the sidelines, completely uninvited.

Guerin paused for only a moment before Minseok put the kibosh on that idea. Guerin laughed and propped an elbow on the shoulder of her friend. "Poor Minseokie, I've been thwarting you all night. I'll have to respect your wishes at some point." She secretly felt relieved, the brief eye contact she had made with the younger idol had made her heart race and wasnt sure she wanted his legs on her like that... [lies] a traitorous part of her brain added. She quickly pushed the thought down.

"Minseokie, have you eaten? Let me feed you." She tugged playfully at his arm.

"Do you ever think about anything other than food?" He grumbled but passively went along with her.

"What else is there?" She joked as she lead him off.

Seyoon watched them retreat as Donghun, Charlie and Jun came up to him.

"It was a close match!" Charlie said politely.

"Are you okay? You look weird." Jun asked.

Seyoon gazed up at them forlornly, "You've seen how much she loves food. I'll need to get a loan to feed her meat."

"Oh yeah you're totally screwed." Donghun said with a nod.

"You might as well close your bank account now." Charlie said with feigned sympathy this time.

Seyoon groaned dramatically and sank to the floor, covering his eyes, "I was so looking forward to my first paycheck."

although yall do love going out and exploring, especially at night,, yall treasure those indoors dates as well when youre both just too tired to go out and have fun !! it consists of wiggling to some choice music, binge watching a good series, dramatic readings of some nice books, napping together, trying (and failing) to make some food before ordering takeout, etc

also sometimes ur indoors dates do devolve into criticizing some of the more questionable music tastes of the other

Sleepless in Seattle, Chapter 9

March 6, 1993- Seattle, Washington:

Belle carries a bologna and cheese sandwich that’s cut up in quarters over to Roland, grinning as he grins up at her to accept it.

“So, she begins, sitting down across from him. “Your dad said you were having a friend over today after school. Did something happen?”

“No,” Roland says easily as he bites into the sandwich. “I ride the bus, but Gus doesn't, so his mom had to pick him up like she always does and bring him over.”

“Oh—“

“He said he had to make a stop.”

“He did,” Belle says, her brow arching. “Not his mum?”

“Nope. Him.”

“Ah—“

Roland nods as he chews the bread’s crust. “We have a project we need to work on and we needed paper.”

“I’m sure you have paper here. You’ve got a whole bin of construction paper and—“

“No,” Roland says, cutting in and shaking his head. “We need nice paper for this.”

“Oh. Okay then.”

Roland grins and nods, then takes a bigger bite of the danish. “It’s really important that we have nice paper.”

“Oh…” Belle shifts and straws in a breath. “So your dad has been seeing my friend, Emma.”

“Emma is your friend?”

“Yes, mine and Ruby’s.”

“Oh, I… I didn’t know that.”

“Your dad says you don't like her.”

Roland shrugs. “I don’t really know her.”

“That’s fair,” Belle says slowly. “I just… I just want you to understand that just because they go on dates sometimes, that… that doesn't mean he’s going to marry her.”

Roland’s brow furrows as he looks back at her. “Then, what's the point of dating her?”

“Well, to… get out and get back in the swing of things and…”

“I don’t have a problem with my dad dating.”

“So, it’s...just Emma you don’t like?”

“I just don't think she’s right for him.”

“That’s why people date. To find someone who is right for them, and that’s a decision that no one else can make for another person.”

Roland nods, considering it. “Then why did you and Aunt Ruby set him up with Emma?”

“Because he’s a really good guy and she's nice and… we thought they might be good together.”

“I like Regina better.”

“Who?”

“Regina,” he says, as if she should know. “The lady who wrote the letter on the pretty paper.” He grins. “She likes Hemingway just like dad does, she has a son who is in Boy Scouts and I’ll be in Boy Scouts next year, and she makes great lasagna, dad’s favorite.” Roland grins as he considers it, and then his grin fades away. “Emma makes Shepherd’s pie. It was not good.”

“Not everyone is gifted in the kitchen.”

“I know, that’s why dad needs someone who is.”

At that, Belle laughs. “So where is this Regina person from?”

“Connecticut.”

“Roland, that’s really far away. It’s all the way on the other side of the country.”

“I know where Connecticut is. I looked it up on the big map at school.” He pauses and takes another bite of the sandwich. “But Gus says a long distance relationship can be a good thing because abstinence makes the heart grow fonder.”

“Um, I think you mean absence, Roland.”

“Yeah. That. That’s what Gus said.”

Belle’s eyes narrow. “Gus as in the little boy that’s coming over to play?”

“To work on a project.”

“Oh, are you not friends with Gus that way?”

“He’s my best friend.”

“Oh, I just…” Belle stops. “Never mind.”

“Well, that may or may not be true, but who am I to argue with the sage advice of a six year old?”

“Gus is seven. He had a late birthday, so he could have been in second grade.”

A grin twists on to Belle’s lips. “That explains it then.”

“Yeah…”

The doorbell rings just as Roland is finishing his sandwich, and as soon as it does, he stuffs the rest of the sandwich into his mouth and runs to the door. And Belle can’t help but laugh as he pulls open the front door, grabs a hold of his friend’s wrist and drags him up the stairs without a word…

“You should see this letter,” Roland says, closing the door behind him.

“Is the paper nice? My mom says that’s how you know someone cares—when they send you something nice.” Gus nods with a serious expression on his round face. “It’s all about the effort, ya know.?”

Roland nods in agreement. “It’s very nice.”

“Then she really likes your dad.”

“Yeah,” Roland says, grabbing the letter from his night stand. “And she included so many of the things my dad likes, without even knowing it.”

“Wow.”

“I know,” Roland says handing his friend the letter. “Look.”

He watches as Gus looks at the envelope, examining it carefully as if looking for clues, then he unfolds the letter, his eyes slowly moving over the words. “You read this?”

“Well… not.. not all of it,” Roland admits. “Just the words I know. But I can tell it’s a really good letter.” He grins. “She quoted Hemingway, and one of the quotes she uses, my dad has a journal that says that same thing on the front.”

“Cool.”

“Right? She is a good cook, too.”

“My dad says that’s super important.”

“Her best meals are my dad’s favorite which is lasagna and then my favorite, apple pie.”

“That’s amazing,” Gus says, his eyes widening a little. “Why did your dad say?”

Roland frowns. “He didn’t read it.”

“Why not?”

“He’s got a girlfriend.”

“Does she make apple pie?”

“No, she makes Shepherd's pie.”

“Ew.”

Roland nods. “It had peas in it.”

“Gross. She’s gotta go.”

“Yeah,” Roland frowns. “She’s… not that bad, really. She rollerblades, I guess.”

“Has she taken you?”

“No.”

“Oh. Then what good is that?”

“I don't know,” Roland admits, “Maybe she will someday.”

“But maybe your Dad’ll dump her before that.”

“I hope so,” Roland says, a little grin pulling onto his lip. “That’s why I invited you over, actually.”

“Need me to throw a fire and scare her of? My dad says I’m ‘specially skilled at making people wanna leave when I get upset about stuff.” He giggles. “Have you ever seen Parent Trap?”

“No. “What’s that?”

“Only the best movie ever. Twins scare off their dad’s terrible girlfriend.”

“Well, I’m not a twin, so I don’t think that would work,” Roland says, considering it as he shifts a bit uncomfortably. “Plus, not actually terrible. I don’t want to scare her,” he says. “I just want her to break up with my dad ‘cause there’s someone better for him.”

“That’s the point,” Gus says. “To make Emma go away.”

“I have a better idea, though,” Roland says, sitting up a little straighter and smiling at his own cleverness. “We are going to write her.”

“Her—“

“Regina,” Roland says. “We are going to write back to her.”

“We’re in first grade, Roland.”

“But we’re the best writers in our class. Our teacher is always saying that.”

Gus nods. “That’s true.”

“So, together, I think we could probably write a pretty good one.”

For a moment, Gus considers it. “We did get an A on that Halloween story was wrote together.”

“Exactly.” Taking a breath, Gus looks down at the letter. “I have some ideas. I started yesterday.”

“Let’s see.”

Reaching back into the nightstand, Roland pulls a lined piece of paper from the drawer. “It’s, just a draft, obviously.” He says, handing the paper over to Gus, watching as Gus reads it to himself then clears his throat to read aloud.

“Dear Regina,” he begins.”You sound really neat—“ Gus grins up at him. “That's a good line.”

“I thought so,” Roland beams.

“You should tell her how much you like lasagna next.”

“Yeah! And why!”

“Good,” Gus nods, looking down at the rest of the letter. “That's good. She is going to love this!”

March 6, 1993- Greenwich, Connecticut:

That evening she and Daniel went out on a date—dinner while Henry was at a friend’s working on a project for school. Daniel suggested the little place in Hartford where they’d gone on their first date, and she’d easily agreed—Henry didn't have to be picked up until nearly eight that evening and it’d have nice to eat in a restaurant that didn’t have children’s section on the menu.

They took her car and when they got into the freeway, Daniel flicked on the radio, and almost immediately her cheeks flushed at the sound of Doctor Hopper’s voice.

“Isn’t this that show you like so much?”

Regina shrugs. “I’m, um… I’m actually doing a story for work on this show.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, it’s... it’s about its emotional appeal.”

“Ohh, that's… that’s actually really interesting. I’d like to hear about it sometime,” Daniel tells her, offering a quick little grin. “When did you start this?”

“Um, a couple of weeks ago.”

“Is it—“

“Can we… not talk about it right now? I’ve spent the whole day thinking about the angle I wasn’t to take for this story and what my argument is going to be, and I just… I just want to focus on something else.”

“Yeah, sure,” Daniel says easily, not seeming to pick up any any of her discomfort over this particular topic. “Do you want to change the station?”

“No,” she murmurs. “I do like this show. It’s… it’s oddly calming.”

“Alright then,” Daniel says, grinning as he looks over at her. “We’ll listen, but not discuss.”

“Perfect,” she says, grinning back.

Daniel tuns up the sound just as Doctor Hopper comes back informing listeners that he’s talking to couples who are sure they’ve found the key to a long-lasting and healthy marriage. And then, they listen to a string of callers explain to Doctor Hopper and his listeners how they married someone they felt was their best friend.

When they arrive at the restaurant, the host leads them to the same table they’d ate at on their first date and she and Daniel had both laugh at the coincidence—and then something glitters in Daniel’s eyes.

And again, she found herself with an uneasy feeling that has become commonplace whenever she thinks he might be considering a proposal.

They get through an appetizer and dinner—and then, after their desert arrives, she watches Daniel reach into the breast pocket of his jacket and pull out a ring box.

She masks her discomfort with surprise and suddenly when the box opens, revealing to her a gorgeous antique ring that he tells her was his mother’s, the entire restaurant is staring that them.

She’s not even sure what he says when he asks because she can’t hear him over the beating of her heart and the voice in her head that tells her this is too soon—but he smiles and the crowded restaurant aww’s and she finds herself nodding, reminding herself that Daniel is, by far, the sweetest, kindest man she’s ever met, that he loves her son and that he loves her, and she reminds herself that she would be a complete fool not to want to marry him.

And as she stares at him with a hundred conflicting thoughts going through her head, she couldn’t help but think there were far worse things than marrying a man like Daniel Colter; and while she and Daniel might not have had passion, but perhaps they had something better.

She comfort and ease, understanding and trust and the sort of love that came from what seemed to be rekindled friendship.

So, she says yes.

The restaurant claps and Daniel pulls her into a warm hug—and she sort of melts into him as she feels a burst of contentment that lasts for the rest of the evening.

And then, she gets home.

Mal is there, curled up one he armchair with a glass of wine, her brow arched skeptically.

“Thank you, for, um,... for picking Henry up.”

“He’s never any trouble.”

Regina smiles. “Is he already asleep.”

“Yeah, He went to bed about a half an hour ago. You just—“ Mal stops and sits up a little straighter as her eyes fall to Regina’s hand. “Oh, so that’s why you were detained.”

Smiling Regina nods. “We… um… we had some unexpected celebrating to do.”

“I’ll say, Mal says, getting up and cross the room toward her. “He finally did it.”

“He finally did.”

“And, you obviously said yes.”

I did,” Regina says smiling a bit shyly. “I… wasn’t sure, but then there he was with the ring and—“

“Regina—“

“I love him. I do. And what we have might not be perfect, but it’s incredible and I’m happy and I’ve never been as happy as I am with him.”

“What about Sleepless in Seattle?”

“Sleepless in Seattle doesn't even know that I exist.”

Mal nods, biting down on her lip. “What happened to not being able to get him out of your head?”

“He’s a fantasy Mal. He’s not real… not… not to me anyway.” She shakes her head. “And Daniel is very real and when I’m with him I feel—“

“Magic?”

“Mal—“

“Please don’t do this, Mal,” Regina says, pressing her eyes closed as she sighs. “Please just let me have this.”

“What about your story?”

“What’s about it? Regina asks, stepping away from Mal. “I can still write it.”

“Really? Because I got the impression the story was an excuse.”

“The story isn’t an excuse. It’s… it’s just something I’m interested in.” She shakes her head. “I… I think I was going down a really unhealthy road, and… and tonight sort of… snapped me back and put me down a different path.”

“A better one?”

“A healthier one. One that’s based on something real, not… not some obsession.” Something about that makes Mal soften. “For so long I was so unhappy, and I spent years building up this idea of what love is supposed to be.”

“You deserve a fairytale.”

“Fairytales aren't real, Mal. They’re not and what I have with Daniel is very real.”

“Do you love him?”

“Yes, of course I do.”

“Are you in love with him?”

“I love him, Mal, and when I envision what our life together would be like, I really like what I see.” She smiles gently. “We’ll be happy.”

“You don’t seem excited.”

“I am, and for the first time in my life, I feel like… like I’m finally in a good place. Please, Just… let me have that.”

Mal sighs and nods,m and then a warm smile pulls onto her lips. “Okay, fine,” Mal says, take a few steps in and pulling her into a hug. “If you're happy, then I’m happy.”

“Thank you,” Regina murmurs as Mal pulls back.

“Okay, so I want you to tell me everything, Mal says, her smile brightening as she takes Regina by the hand. “Don’t leave anything out!”

The shaking of the entire apartment complex justled you out of your dreamless sleep, the loud, hard thumps upon your windowpane and the cold cotton of your pillowcase senselessly shaking you back to reality.

It didn’t take you right away for you to notice your upper body was drenched in cold sweat until the wave of shivers travelled down your spine repeatedly. Your eyes drifted to your nightstand to make out the blinking numbers in the dark that your eyes haven’t yet utterly adjusted to. 5:38, the blur of red glared. You heaved a sigh and held your head in your hands momentarily. There were still three hours left before your actual alarm went off, but there was no point of trying to get some shut-eye for the sixth time that night. You heaved yourself up and stretched for ten minutes before having the steaming water pound on your back.

What’s up with me? You furrowed your eyebrows as the droplets fell on your skin. I need some fresh air, that’s probably what it is. Maybe I finally cracked under the stress of the new boss. You only shrugged it off as you grabbed your towel and slid in the outfit you laid out temporarily on the towel rack. After hastily throwing on the thickest coat hung up in your closet and snatched the keys off the counter table, you snugly pulled your scarf right underneath your nose and exited the apartment with a half-hidden face and a hooded head.

You looked down at your phone and mentally timed yourself for a half hour walk around the neighborhood. It sure was convenient to only live a few blocks away from the local park; your nearby getaway from life was only a seven-minute walk away. Your gloved hand stuffed your phone back in your coat pockets, and there began your walk.

The first half of the mini-exercise was pleasant and serene. Although the biting wind irritated your cheeks, there was something untouchable and peaceful about walking in the winter alone. Your once-clouded mind was as clear as the soft sunlight filtering through the leaves of the trees, pillowed by the lush grass. You inhaled fresh oxygen, Mother Nature completely overtaking your senses and engulfing you. The scattered chirps of your winged friends were your only source of sound above the chilling wind.

You had circled around the park for a good while, already spending 80 percent of your time doing so. You finished up your final round and started heading back to your home. The walk back was as ordinary as it usually was.

Until it suddenly wasn’t.

If you had continued to space out for a second longer, you could have missed it. The moment could have passed long gone by the time you had snapped out of it, but you just had to come back to reality in that exact moment. And you weren’t sure whether it was a good or a bad thing.

He was sitting on a windowsill of a random quaint business shop a little ways ahead. His hands were stuffed in his brown and white wool jacket, his head slightly tilted back and the corners of his lips were imperceptibly quirked upwards like he knew a secret you didn’t. In this case, he sure seemed like he did.

You had stopped abruptly in your tracks and in turn gaped at the brown-haired beauty. Even in the dreary cold light of the winter, he was still able to shine even without wholly exposing his pearly whites. He always did have that effect. His gaze moved from the sky to the right of his vision and finally to the left, where that gaping mouth of yours was.

He stood up, his smile widening by the second. You blinked twice and even moved your hands to rub your eyes. Your heartbeat picked up the pace as he started advancing on you. You were simply frozen on the spot, your limbs terrified of moving a muscle.

Before you could even get out the word “what,” his arms encircled you and knocked the air out of your lungs as if you weren’t already having trouble getting enough oxygen inside your system in contrast to the open environment in the park. You wanted to screech, cry, shove him, hug him, but your voice would give away the emotions welling up in your chest. They eventually journeyed all the way to your head as soon as he let go to examine your face. The overwhelming sensation made everywhere else stiff, but the leaking of your eyes gave it away. His grin dropped almost immediately as your head, and you could only hear his mouth run.

“Oh no, are you okay?! What happened? Who do I have to fight?” You cried even harder at his last sentence. He couldn’t even hurt a fly, much less get involved in a physical fight. You tearily chuckled and raised your palms in an embarrassing attempt to wipe away the tears, but he had beat you to it. The grip around your shoulders migrated to the sides of your face, cupping you like you were as fragile as you felt, and gently raised your head. His thumbs brushed away your tears as they rained down on them. His eyes searched yours in a frenzy, trying to inspect any hints of your sudden meltdown.

“How… how on earth are you here? Literally?” You managed to gargle out of your strained throat. He only stared blankly at you. You continued, “You’re… you’re not supposed to be here. Maybe I’m really hallucinating this time around. Yeah, that must be it.” You reach out to poke him, and you gasped as you could feel the material of his coat. The grip he had on your shoulders and now on your face; they all felt too real. Why?

“That—that’s not possible. You’re, you’re not real!” You tried taking a step back but his hands went back down around your shoulders. “Wait, Y/N.” Fresh tears pricked the back of your eyes. You haven’t heard your name on his tongue in years. So why now?

“I know it must come as a shock—“ “—of course it does!—“ “—but it really is me. You touched me; I’m as real as it gets!” “Prove it. Where did we last go together?” “The amusement park. You forced me to go on that rollercoaster 4 times.” “What did we do for your birthday?” “We went to a bowling alley where I destroyed you.” “You only got lucky that last round, Lee.” “You’re still using that same line after all this time.”

Your breath quickened momentarily before slowing down. Is it really him?

“If you need any more proof, here’s the final one.” He pulled out his phone and gave it you. You stared incredulously at him. “You want me to take your phone?” He laughed, “Why don’t you turn it on?”

With your brows still raised, you slowly took his device and pressed on the power button. “Alright, it’s on—“

The words remained stuck at your throat. His wallpaper was the selfie you both took at the amusement park in line waiting for the rollercoaster. Your eyes shot up to his. It… it can’t be… He’s...

He only gives you a warm smile, the same one so many years ago. “Happy birthday, Y/N.”

“I just don’t understand,” your voice echoed through your apartment as you entered the living room with two water bottles in both hands. You handed one to him as you sat across from him. “How are you even here?”

He shrugged and opened up the bottle. “Beats me. One second I’m sleeping at the studio, and the next I’m here.” You bitterly remembered the studio, the last place it all happened. You took a large gulp of water before speaking up again. “Seokmin, I was there. I saw it with my own eyes. You DIED!”

Seokmin stared at you before leaning over to rest his forearms on his thighs. “Okay, so, maybe I kind of lied.” You gave him a look. “I’m not really alive, but not exactly dead, either.”

“Just say you’re a ghost or some spirit.”

“Well, I guess you could say I’m a ghost. I was just brought back to ‘life,’” he air quoted, “to spend the day with you, I guess!” You shake your head and sit up straighter. “But why now? You didn’t appear for a bunch of birthdays consecutively. It’s only today.”

“I wish I knew the answer to that, too.” He raised his hand to cup your cheek. You leaned into his touch and brought your hand to rest on top of his. He looked at you melancholically, his eyes slightly hooded. “I want to spend every day with you if I could, but things just happen in their own way like this.”

You sighed. “Well, it still freaks me out to no end that you’re actually before me after so much time has passed, but it also feels like we’re picking up right after we left off, as weird as that is.”

He leaned over and pressed his lips on your forehead. They were still warm and soft. “Well, birthday girl, what do you wanna do today?”

You wracked your brain, your hand cupping your chin. “Do-over of those amusement park and bowling dates!”

He only let out a chuckle and shook his head. “Didn’t expect anything different from you. Shall we?” He laced his fingers in yours and pulled you up to your feet. You still had no idea why or how everything was happening like it was, but you were in no position to complain. Maybe this was the second chance you were finally granted with after wishing on countless shooting stars, prayer after prayer in the deafening silence of the dark.

You made your first step at the looming hunks of metal and the familiar grinding on the tracks as bursts of screams followed the direction of their carts. You felt bittersweet of your return after so long; you couldn’t bring yourself to have the same enjoyment you did with the only person who was willing to be dragged on every ride possible with little to no complaints. The warmth surrounding your hand suddenly felt more present than ever. You gently squeezed his, ensuring his presence was there for the tenth time that hour.

“Y/N, if you keep squeezing my hand like this, my blood circulation will cut off.”

You playfully nudged him, rolling your eyes. “Okay, you baby. Tell me that once we get off the rollercoasters.” Flashing his pearly whites, he leaned in to plant a kiss the side of your head. “Maybe it just gives me an excuse to hold your hand, hm?” He dropped your hand and just when you opened your mouth in protest, you felt a slight tug around your shoulders, where his hand reappeared. You smiled to yourself as you wrapped your arm around his waist and rested your head on his chest. His inviting warmth always allured you, and even more so in the harsh winter.

Have you always been this cold?

“You really want a rematch, don’t you?” You raised an eyebrow at him with crossed arms. “Are you that eager to lose against me again?”

“Hey now, don’t get too cocky. After enduring all those long lines and horrific rides, it’s your turn to be in my forte.” He carefully picked up a bowling ball and got into position. You inwardly grimaced when the scoreboard marks a strike on his first try. That was a tell-tale sign that he truly was about to demolish you, but you were never going to admit that -- at least, not in front of him. He turned back and gave you a smirk you wanted to wipe off his terribly attractive face as he stalked back to his seat. You deeply inhaled and exhaled, your eyes trained on the 12 pins at the end of the lane. You released the ball and subconsciously held your breath as it traveled further down. A satisfying clunk rang in the nearly empty bowling alley as you turned back and returned his smirk.

“Strike out, buddy.” He stood up and said tauntingly, “Don’t be so confident. We have a whole game ahead of us, honey.”

The friendly competition and the banter was all that could be heard the whole night. Echoes of your laughs and the pins knocking down were music to your ears, melodies that you desperately missed. The ache in your chest returned as it usually did whenever you felt too sentimental. The twinkle in his eyes and the brightness of his smile were all it took to turn you into a sappy mess. He didn’t change one bit.

His head was cocked up to look at the scoreboards, his legs shook in anticipation. He turned to you and raised his hands up in the air triumphantly. “Another game to me!”

For some reason, his boyish enthusiasm ironically made you… What was the word? You stared at him doing his dorky happy dance and the smile that never left his face for a second.

Longing. Hopeful. Melancholic. A mix of everything, much more than the numbing feeling you grew accustomed to after the incident. Your vision blurred, hot tears tracked down your now red cheeks. He immediately stopped dancing and rushed to you.

“Hey, it’s okay, we can always go for another round. The night is still young--”

You laughed wetly, shaking your head at his pure innocence. “No, no, I’m not crying because I lost. I -- god, what’s wrong with me.” You could only shake your head and pathetically wipe away the tears. He gazed at you sadly and brought your head to his chest. The hug he engulfs you in was almost enough for you to break down more heavily, but you stopped yourself before it would turn into a sobfest. He rubs your back soothingly and pets your head all at once. His slow movements contained traces of dejection and led to his next question that you least expected.

“You’ve been crying all day, Y/N… Are you… not happy to see me?”

You abruptly lifted your head and stared up at him with panicked eyes, your tone slightly raised in alarm. “What, of course not! It’s just so much to take in. I mean, you’ve been out of my life for five years, and you’re suddenly back. It makes no sense at all. And everything about today has made me miss you so terribly. It’s been hard, Seokmin.” You touched the side of his face and he nodded in understanding. “I know… I know. I really do wish I could still be with you, but… well, we know why that can’t be.” He gazed at you with a sadness you’ve never seen fill his pupils before, his features slightly distorted at the situation you’re thrown in.

You sighed but decided strengthen your resolution. “Well, there’s only a few hours left of the day. We can’t spend the rest of it moping around now. Let’s go back home and call it a night.” You were about to grab your jacket sprawled out on the benches, but he quickly took ahold of your wrist. “Wait, let’s take a selfie together!” You couldn’t help but giggle at his excitement and the speed he whipped out his phone from his jeans back pocket. He slightly bent down at your height and held out his device in front of the both of you. You rested a hand on his shoulder and smiled at the front camera. “One… two… three!” Just before the “three,” you turned your head and leaned in to give him a light cheek kiss.

His eyes widened and he laughed in embarrassment. “Aren’t you getting bold now,” he bashfully states more than questions. You chuckled and peered over his shoulder, “Let’s see how it turned out!”

He turned his back towards you and shook his head. “No! You always demand a retake, and it ends up being a photoshoot for five minutes and deleting 14 out of 18 pictures.” He secretly checked his image gallery and smiled. “You’re beautiful, as always.” You rolled your eyes and started packing up your things scattered on the table. “Always the charmer, aren’t you, Mr. Lee.” He jogged back to you and gracefully took his jacket from your hands. “You deserve the truth, babe.” You let out a small laugh and took his hand in yours. “Just send me it.” He nodded and led you out the door, the eventful night coming to a close.

The trip back home was in a comfortable silence, the both of you simply basking in the other’s presence. There was no need for words to fill the quiet. With your head on his shoulder and his stacked on yours, it was crystal clear what both hearts communicated. You hadn’t felt this much at ease all day, much less in those empty, listless five years. The soft movements of the moving car soon lulled you to sleep up until your apartment building pulled into view.

You and Seokmin trudged up to your floor and plopped down on the couch. He was underneath you, his arms wrapped around your back and your head nuzzled in the middle of his chest, your ultimate favorite pillow and source of comfort you yearned for all these years. Your legs were an intertwined mess and your arms just as entangled.

“It’s 10 pm,” he muttered from the top of your head. “We should wash up.” You sleepily shook your head, your eyes already drooping heavily. “There’s always tomorrow…”

He let out what was supposed to be a chuckle but ended up sounding more like a tired grunt. “Well, I suppose I like being here better.” He planted another kiss on the top of your head, adding more warmth to you that radiated from his body neck down. The slight discomfort you felt from being squished on your tiny couch amounted up to nothing as you cuddled up next to Seokmin. There was just something about him that could make everything feel right, no matter how bad it may seem.

“Seokmin.” “Yes?” “I still have no idea how this is all happening, but… I’m happy it is.” “... Me too, Y/N.” “I missed you a lot.” “So did I.”

A gigantic yawn escaped your lips despite your attempt to stifle it. His throaty laugh sent vibrations from his chest, another thing you were aware of in his full presence that day.

“You should go sleep, honey.” “But… I wanna talk to you. I finally have the chance to.” “We’re both worn out. It’s okay, just go rest.” “I don’t want you to disappear when I wake up.”

You slightly choked on your last words. He paused before leaning down just centimeters away from you. “I love you. I’ll always love you.”

And for the first time that night, you shared your first kiss after his sudden appearance in the morning. His lips were still soft and warm like the last time you remembered. The slow yet emotional kiss simultaneously sent chills down your spine yet warmed your whole being from head to toe. You felt drops on your cheeks, but this time it wasn’t your own. You knew exactly what that kiss conveyed, the words that neither of you could utter to fake the ignorance of the time ticking away. You slowly broke away, and your hands somehow ended up on the back of his neck.

“I’ll always love you too, Seokmin. Always.”

You both spent a while like that, your foreheads touching and holding on to the other for dear life. You didn’t want to believe that in just several hours, all of this could disappear as suddenly as it appeared. You wanted to take in everything about him; the way his eyes crinkled whenever he smiled, the soft smile he would always give you when he looked at you doing the most mundane thing, how his hands rested on your hips, the curve of his shoulders, everything. Simply everything. You eventually went back to your cuddling position and stayed there the rest of the night. Your late night talks with him once returned, talking about anything and everything. Before you knew it, it was already well into the early morning.

Your consciousness was rapidly slipping despite your fight to stay awake. This was the only time you could spend time with him, and your body just had to choose that moment to pass out. He noticed your failed attempts to prevent your eyes from closing and slightly giggled.

“Alright, little one, you should go to sleep.” “No, I… I wanna see you until the end.” “You can barely see me now with your eyes closing like that.” “I’m trying!”

He kissed the top of your head and made his way down your face. First, your temples, then your eyelids, your nose, your cheeks… and finished it off on your lips again.

“I’ll be here. I’m not going anywhere.”

You wanted to thrash against the drowsiness, but you could no longer endure it. Before you fully knocked out, he managed to mutter his last words.

“I love you… I’ll always be watching over you.”

Soft sunlight filtered through your window curtains. You lightly stirred and then immediately remembered last night’s events. Your eyes shot up instantly. Seokmin. Your body shoots up as quickly as your eyes did. And that was it.

You were the only one on the couch.

You scurried off the couch and hysterically called out his name. He was nowhere to be found, no matter how loud and how often his name rolled off your tongue. He wasn’t in the kitchen, the bathroom, nor your bedroom. He was gone without a trace.

You slumped down in the middle of your hallway, your sobs the only sounds travelling down the corridors. He was taken away from you once again.

Your body felt heavy as you tried to get back on your feet again. You loudly sniffled as you shuffled back to the empty living room where you spent the night. You stopped as soon as you saw the coffee table.

His phone and a note underneath it were staring back at you. You almost tripped over your feet making a beeline towards his things. You opened the neatly folded white piece of paper. The sight of his penmanship on its own was enough to tear you up, but not as much as the words he had written. You read his message and lifted a finger to trace his letters, as if you could feel his presence when he wrote them. You put down the note back on the table and turned on his phone.

The lockscreen was the selfie you took at the bowling alley. It deceivingly looked like you were the regular couple five years back. You could almost feel his smooth skin on your lips the longer you stare at the picture. You slumped back down and cried in your hands, the same ones that held your boyfriend’s not even 8 hours ago.

I hope you had a good rest, Y/N. I know you’ve been taunted by those dreams for so long, so I hope I was able to help you sleep well from the short time I was here with you. I could feel myself slipping away from reality when I felt you become at ease and come to terms with what’s happened, so I had to rush through this before I fully disappeared. I hope I gave you the best birthday yesterday. I’ll always love you, and I’ll always be with you.

He yawned, swaying on the chair lazily. Working was definitely the last thing he wanted to do, and so - he didn’t pay much attention to it.

So many things happened lately. He thought that everything would change once he escaped the agency.

But it did not. There - of course - was a change, but much different from what he expected.

He still worked as IT expert, his house was as messy as always. Vanderwood still lived with him, doing his own work and - by the way - cleaning all the mess Saeyoung’s made. He threatened to move away soon - which he planned from the very beginning - but it was for some reason a painfully slow process and, as long as he still lived here, it seemed as if nothing changed.

Except for Saeran, the third mouth to feed.

That wasn’t all though. The thing that changed the most was the almost continuous presence of two additional beings. You know, the same set as before. Buy one, get one free.

Kuro was the one who’s got invited to Rika’s apartment.

Shiro was the one who stormed in two days later with food, scolding her sister for neglecting the studies.

It didn’t exactly go as planned and storming in resulted in the bomb almost going off.

And there again: Kuro was the one to take it with only a weird, rather unmoved expression, while Shiro started yelling at the redhead for putting her sister in such a danger.

But when he pointed that she let her live in a stranger’s apartment (she was obviously aware of the fact), she just waved him off and, sending him a cold glare, stated that either he lets Kuro live at his place (to make sure she’s safe) (she didn’t actually believe it’d make her safe) or she will take her sister back home and no one will hear from her ever again.

It all ended with Kuro having to calm down her heatened sister and Saeyoung having to prepare a separate bedroom for the poor girl.

It was a few months ago and right now, the girls were living together again.

Ever since Shiro and Saeran accidentally met, it was pretty obvious that there’s something soothing in her demanding behaviour that made Saeran kind of vulnerable. The relationship between them was a bit weird, but rather stable.

But Kuro? It was a completely different matter.

The girl caught Saeyoung’s attention. When she, for the first time, entered the RFA’s chatroom, she was so bright and innocent. Cheerful, trying to make everyone smile. Understanding, even to him. She even got his jokes, which made them both an explosive pair.

And then, when he decided to look into the camera’s feedback, he noticed her, sitting in the corner with her phone laying beside her, eyes focused on her small laptop, the light of the screen brightening her pale, calm face.

Every message she sent, every emoticon she put into the messages, she didn’t’ smile even once. When someone called her, she was kind and smiling. But every time the call ended, she would sigh quietly and go back to her laptop, looking as if the talk never happened. There was that dark, filled with despair aura around her. The one that made him keep wondering and asking himself over and over: what heppened to her…?

To keep her saddness buried deep inside and show only the happy, careless side. To sit in this corner, in front of the CCTV camera, all day and scribble in her laptop as if nothing else mattered. To occasionally wip her eyes and if it weren’t for the poor quality of the feed, he’d always want to know if she’s crying, because if so - he’d call her straight away to cheer her up…

…But he was aware that the call would be just like any other she’s got. Happy, cheerful, “worries-lacking”.

And that’s when he suddenly realized that she’s just like him.

And that it’s not good to be like this.

Saeyoung blinked, staring at the screen. Everything happened too quickly for him to have a chance to react.

He didn’t even know. While doing his research, he completely missed this information.

Wait, but… shouldn’t Kuro answer with “happy birthday to you too” or something like this? They were twins. T.W.I.N.S. It’s more than obvious that the birthday’s date is the same for the both of them.

He couldn’t know though.

They were probably busy with rescuing the chicken at the moment, so he waited for twenty minutes and dialed the number.

- Nah. You should go to sleep though, you have kinda red eyes.

- Doubt so. You’ve been sticking to your phone for the whole day. Not too healthy~

- You won’t tell me what’s healthy, honey - Shiro mumbled and almost stumbled into her room, because sleeping was the best thing she could do now.

Kuro peeked at the phone, sitting on the couch and turning on the TV, instantly reducing the volume. The noise was still weirdly loud, as the rest of the apartment stayed completely silent. The sounds of the night city didn’t reach them on the thirteen floor.

The light of the TV screen was annoyingly bright and yet she felt surrounded by the darkness. The shadow behind her back, the open door to the kitchen and her room - obviously dark. The uneasy feeling grown in her as the movie ended and there were end credits on the black background, with quiet, kind of creepy music.

She took the remote and turned it off. The silence calmed her down a little bit, but the darkness only got worse. She closed her eyes for a few minutes, hopeful that she would fall asleep on the couch, but it didn’t work.

The floor looked like an abyss and she sincerely hesitated before laying her foot on it.

She went to the window and opened it wide. The cold air filled the room, chills running down her spine as the wind messed with her hair. Now she could hear all the noises, the streets of the city filled with cars and moving lights as if it was the middle of a day. Brightness of the city contrasted with the black sky.

It was warmer than she though it’d be at this hour. The urge to take a walk was something definitely too strong to resist at this point. She’d only have to change, since pajamas aren’t the best choice. Going out in pajamas is never a good choice, let’s be honest.

In a few minutes she was ready, with casual trousers, a shirt and a blouse. She hid her hair under the hem of the blouse so that it wouldn’t get all messy because of the wind and opened the door to go outside…

…only to bang someone else’s head with her own.

She whined softly and wobbled from the sudden dizziness. She automatically held her forehead and backed away, a similar to hers whine reached her ears at the same moment.

She blinked and looked at the wall clock in the living room, making sure she didn’t make a mistake.

- … - She looked once more at the silhoulette she just banged (…I really didn’t mean it to sound like this). - Saeyoung… care to tell me, what are you doing here at one a.m…?

The boy panted, leaning against the door frame. It was obvious he was running all his way here.

- You’re… not asleep yet… Good - he mumbled out, trying to calm down his breath.

- … Why didn’t you go here by car?

He froze.

- I… forgot I have one - he admitted. - But more important, Kuro, why aren’t you asleep?! - he panicked suddenly.

- … - The girl stared at him. - You just said it’s good I’m not asleep!

- It’s good for me, but it’s not good not for your health! And what’s up with going out at this hour! Someone could kidnap you!

The scene was so surreal that she didn’t even know how to answer.

- E-er… - she stuttered. - Okay, so what are you doing here by the way…? - The despearte attempt to change the topic was obviously desperate.

Now Saeyoung was the one to stutter. It took her a while to notice a brown box he was keeping under his arm.

- O-oh! I almost forgot! E-er, it may not look the best right now, b-but… - He opened the box and took out a bit heavy thing that miraclously fitted the box. - I know you’ve already seen it, but it… for some reason kept breaking so I couldn’t give it to you, I eventually fixed it though, so… Happy birthday, Kuro!

The girl’s eyes widened at the view and she almost forgot how to breathe. She held the cat carefully in both of her hands, afraid of accidentally breaking or letting it fall to the floor.

- S-Saeyoung… Y-you… d-didn’t have to… - she stuttered out.

- No, I didn’t - he agreed. - But I wanted to. Kuro… - He cleared his throat. - Thank you… for everything. If you ever feel down or just… need someone to talk to, I’m always here for you. It may be hard to just… come and talk, but… I promise I will always listen, so there’s nothing you should be worried about, okay?

He smiled warmly and gently kissed her forehead, his fingers tangled in her hair as the other hand wrapped around her waist, giving her a warm hug.

- I’m not going to leave you, so just trust me, okay?

He hummed softly.

The night was still young.

Well, driving home last night from a club with my friends. Almost finished dropping my friends off we go through a puddle, me not knowing how high it really is so I assumed it was only little. Coming out of the puddle, the water was coming up-to the car bonnet (dashboard). So the engine and power, all cut out.. So we have to get out, and push the car to a higher ground. Obviously, the engine has flooded and after a few attempts of jump starting it, didn't work. So I had to ring the break down service to come pick us up. Hello Thank you for entering in my post I've been with Admiral insurance for more than 1 year, which is my 1st car insurance since I've been in England I've been driving for more than 12 years and I've never made a claim before it was a normal and clear day and i was going to work when I had an accident with a girl riding a moped It was a very silly accident, fortunatelly none was injured, and I only had a broken wind-mirrow, which is no more than 50 of damage I had to call Admiral, my insurer, to sort the problem out, I had no other choice Admiral told me I was not covered to go to work since on the policy agreement says: use for social, domestic and pleasure purposes only. And, according to them, to be covered, my policy had to be: use for social and COMMUNITY. So Community for them means, going to work, it is ridiculas but that's what i was told However they said we cover you, you will have to pay 23.74 extra and you will be covered, it was frustrating, a theft, but I let it go... The absurd story didn't even start yet! I gave Admiral all the details which the police had given to me the day of the accident plus some pictures of the scene, which I took before to leave that day Admiral sent an inspector who interwied me at my house. This inspector wrote a statement of 6 PAGES! about my accident, however, I need to say, he did a very good job On the statement states that none was injured and the fault lies with the moped rider, which is also what the police said on the scene. In addtion this inspector suggested to call my insurer again to finally get my car fixed. Admiral told me I will have to pay for the damage myself and, after all their investigation, if they find out it was not my fault, I can ask e refund for the damage, and they added that this investigation can take up to 3 years, so I will have my money back in 3 years! this is because according to them, the moper rider was injured This is absolutely incredible What would you suggest? I would like to get rid of this Admiral policy as soon possible, I would like to claim against it Who could I call to claim against Admiral? Day 5: Cooking for Family || Future Phan: Slice of Life

“You know i don’t eat meat Otōsan” Persephone snapped at her father, glaring at him. “You’re missing nutrients! I just want you to be healthy.. Elliot please stop licking every chicken tender I can see you!” Dan yelled, snatching the plate of uncooked chicken from his son, “If you get sick it’s not my fault.” He told the 8 year old before shooing him away.

“Otōsan what am i going to eat then?” Persephone pouted, “I’m going to starve! I’m calling Papa.. he will get me food.”

Dan sighed and moved from the stove to open up the freezer. He reached down to the bottom shelf and pulled out some fake meat he picked up earlier. Tossing it to his daughter he made his way back to the stove where, yet again, Elliot was licking the chicken tenders. “Elliot Dillard Howel-Lester stop licking the chicken tenders! If i have to tell you again you will not eat. You hear me?” He snapped at his son who scurried away as soon as he was caught.

Persephone, was sitting on the island behind her father flipping the box in her hands. She was satisfied for now but sooner or later she’d find another way to mess with Dan. That was her favorite hobby next to reading, and having a nice snuggle with the family dog. A thought popped into her head and she watched her Dad reach over to start cooking the chicken. Opening the box she reached her hand into it and pulled out a fake nugget. Persephone laughed to herself for a second before lightly throwing the nugget into the pot of oil next to her father.

Dan heard a snap and felt burning on his left arm right after. “Fuck!” He yelled, quickly covering his mouth. Phil told him he needed to lighten up with the cussing around the kids, but sometimes it was hard when the literal devil was your child. He looked into the oil pan noticing the ‘chicken’ and he didn’t have to turn around to know who threw it there. “Persephone! What the hell is wrong with you?” Dan yelled at his daughter.

As if they were in a movie Phil walked right through the front door with grocery bags in hand. And on cue Persephone started up the water works. No matter how many times Phil said he couldn’t have a favorite child Persephone knew she was the favorite is Phil’s eyes. “Papa.. Otōsan yelled at me..” she sniffled, and wiping her eyes for dramatic effect.

“Oh he did now? For what exactly?”

“She threw one of her vegan nuggets into the oil and it splashed and burned me!”

“Well you should have cooked them first! I told you i don’t eat meat and i was hungry!!”

“Well maybe you should stop being a brat and wait for me to cook them!”

“Daniel! Persephone! That’s enough!” Phil yelled. Both fighters fell silent and just stared at Phil like deer caught in headlights. “That’s enough of you two fighting. I’m not home five minutes and you two start! Persephone day you’re sorry to your father right now and Dan say sorry to Persephone for not considering her being vegetarian.”

“Why should i hav-“ “Daniel.. just do it.” Phil cut him off. He wasn’t having it. Everynight they did this, except it was new apologizes being said but not tonight. Tonight will be a nice dinner… with chicken tenders and Mac and cheese? “Whose idea was it for dinner tonight?” Phil asked. The father daughter duo just hooked their thumbs over their shoulders to point towards the little man sitting at the table with a big grin.

Phil just shook his head and placed the groceries down on the island next to his daughter. Persephone has worn her hair down today. She looked pretty, but if phil tried to tell her she’d just put it back up claiming beauty standards don’t exist and being grumpy the rest of the night. He chose to not start that war just yet.. maybe after dinner if he was feeling up for a fight.

“Okay. Everything is done minus Persephone’s vegan nuggets so take this-“ Dan pointed to all the cooked food sitting in their degisnated dishes, “to the table. And give these-“ Elliot’s licked chicken tenders “to him. He put his germs on them claiming them.” Phil nodded grabbing Elliot’s tenders and the Mac and cheese bowl and headed for the table. Pershepone, with some hesitation, grabbed the real chicken tenders and made her way to the table as well.

Reaching up in the cabinet for plate Dan put all of his daughters finished nuggets onto the tray. There were 11 on the tray, and she’d probably eat about four or five of them then claim she wasn’t feeling well after.. Just in case Dan took some off and left them in the pan. She could always come back and get them if she was really hungry. “Here you go Princess.” He said as he walked over and handed his daughter her dinner. Elliot had set the table beautifully! He even decided to grab one of Phil’s yummy smelling candles justifying that action with “it’ll make you more hungry when you smell it so you’ll keep eating.”

Dinner went as normal. Persephone ate about half of her dinner then excused herself from the table. Once Elliot finished her took his and his sisters plate to the sink, thanked Dan for making his favorite, and ran off to his room leaving the two fathers behind to talk about their days and catch up.

After dinner Dan and Phil cleaned up the kitchen and all the groceries away. Now they were just leaning up again the island, sipping some tea and just reminiscing. They didn’t get time to themselves as much as they’d like anymore. With two kids and business meetings all the time, they never really talked besides dinner and bed. Those conversations weren’t long either because one of the kids would either start a fight or Dan would fall asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. This time together was nice. Both kids in their rooms, Elliot’s candle burning, they were happy.

“I’ve missed this.. it almost feels like it’s just you and me again.” Phil said, setting his tea down to wrap his arms around his husband. He leaned forward and started to place small kisses on Dan’s neck. He gave little thank yous after each kiss. “Thank you for cooking dinner” kiss “thank you for being a great father” kiss “thank you for being my husband” kiss. He kept with his little thank you kisses, making Dan melt with each one. Eventually Dan couldn’t take it anymore and just reached out for his husbands face. Dan connected their lips and just kissed his husband for what felt like the first time in ages. They kissed goodnight everynight but it was little pecks. They haven’t properly kissed in ages, Dan was starting to get grey hairs in stress just wondering when his husband would return from the war and kiss him again.

Phil reached behind Dan, tapping his legs to signal him to jump up on the island. So Dan did, keeping their lips connected as he jumped and clung onto Phil for dear life. Dan didn’t want this to stop and judging by how grabby Phil was being he knew he didn’t want to stop either. It was beautiful, it was perfect, it was-

A loud cough snapped Dan and Phil out of their trances. It was ruined. Both men sighed and turned to face the noise. There was their daughter, mortified and stood as still as a board. Of all the people to catch them. “I just wanted some tea but now I’m too sick to drink. I’m going to bleach my eyes out and burn my memories.” She said, turning around and going right back up the stairs to her room. Dan jumped down from the counter and placed a kiss of his husbands lips. They would have to wait for now, but judging by the darkness in Phil’s eyes he could tell he still wanted more.

“If you can get yourself together for a couple of minutes and make our daughter some tea I’ll be all yours when you finish.” He told him. This made Phil’s whole body perk up and he did just that. He made his daughter some mint tea and rushed up towards her room. Stopping for a second to give Dan a deep kiss, reaching his free hand around to pull his hair slightly, “Dont move baby…I’ll be right back.” The other guy said with a smirk. He made his way up stairs up Pershepones room and out of Dan’s sight.
