fortnight: fine. sounds like a song. one of the lana drag ones. the actual lyrical content is nothing special. i would not have made this track one. 6/10

tortured poets department: kind of exactly what you would expect from a taylor swift album called tortured poets department. it's silly. it's got references. it makes you go. girl? already less distinct musically. 3/10

my boy only breaks his favorite toys: the consequence of doing lana drag is that you listen to songs and go this would be a lot better if lana got her chords on it. fundamentally not a song that i can enjoy from taylor allison swift. a song i would respect in lana of video games fame catalogue once she strips it down. not like head turningly strange like tpd just plain and simple middle of the road. 4/10

down bad: this one is unlistenable for me. cant explain why. probably the chorus of down bad. i think it's tooooooo silly too silly by far when taylor swift does how do you do fellow teens vocabulary. 2/10

so long london: i can see the place that this takes on my spotify wrapped. lyrics are fine. good even. this + backing + doing something even the littlest bit different from soft monotone talk singing makes it one of the most memorable on this album by miles. probably not near the top of most memorable in her hundreds deep bench though. can't think of anything to dock it for but it's no belter. 8/10.

but daddy i love him: yeah okay. i love when she does a silly one. i think the instrumentals are nice. i'm having his baby. no i'm not! but you should see your face. easily i would listen to an album that was full of songs to this theme / musicality. points docked because i dont think she knows it's as silly as it is. 7/10.

fresh out the slammer: bored. i just looked at the lyrics and they're passable but they're performed in the most boring possible manner. stupidest name imaginable. i actually might bump it a point or two if the name was different. 4/10

florida: makes me go yaaaaaay florence every time i hear it. taylor's part halsey 2014 core. could have been worse! if i was in charge of cutting tracks i would keep this one. 6/10

How is Taylor with the other girls (Shay valentine and the twins)

so gigi and taylor are already friends, as gigi likes to think. obviously they dont see each other often as taylor is a busy woman, and so is your family, but gigi likes to watch her music videos and award shows and then matty will text taylor telling her gigi loved the new video, or saying congratulations, and taylor will reply. aw thank you sweet girl or ugh what an angel. but it is a while before taylor and gigi meet again, properly, when all the girls are born and old enough to come along to things. the band are nominated for a brit and taylor is performing, and for the first time, all five healy girls will be in the audience.

it might be a stupid fucking idea. the twins are three years old, which is younger than when gigi first attended awards, and there is two of them, but the whole band are there, and their partners, and when matty first floated the idea of bringing all the girls, and you scoffed in his face, the boys convinced you that they would be there to help, that they wouldnt drink until the girls were tucked up in bed, that they could play man to man with the twins, who were always better behaved for george, ross and adam than they were for their own parents. so you all end up round a few tables, each girl with glitter in their hair, nails painted, sparkling dresses. gigi wears dark purple, almost black, shay is in yellow with her hair in an updo curling around her face, valley wears dusty pink, silk, and the twins are dressed in the cutest pale blue dresses covered in daisies. you haul them all down the red carpet, hands holding hands holding hands, matty being stopped by interviewers who coo at whatever twin he is holding (you don't know, you just know they are both still with one of you) and you glance back and around at your girls and the crowds thinking how the hell is this my life.

the girls are spectacularly well behaved. the older three entranced by the stage and the outfits and the music, each with headphones that match their dresses. lexie plays quietly on george's lap, him wiggling her arms to dance to the songs. stevie, who were most worried about, is passed out on matty's shoulder almost the whole time.

when taylor comes out to perform, the older girls scream. taylor catches sight of gigi and waves to her, and then her eyes dance through all the girls who she has only seen on instagram before, singing the lyrics as if just to them. so cute she mouthes at you and matty before jumping right back into the next verse.

the band don't win, which you're secretly thankful for, because you dont know what you'd have done with all the girls had the boys had to go up on stage. matty has won many awards and you know he doesn't mind, especially because the winner is a newcomer who he's helped mentor.

after the awards have finished, taylor comes out into the audience, in something less swishy and dramatic than what she was wearing for her performance. she comes over to the band's table, scanning the girls again and grinning, before pulling matty into a hug.

"you've got a little army of them. i love it. i love it!" she says, as gigi sidles up to her, still shy of "princess taylor", even though in the comfort of her own house she calls her "my best friend."

"hello gorgeous girl," taylor says, and scoops gigi into her arms where she wraps her legs around her waist and rests her head on her shoulder. matty strokes gigi's curls from behind.

"why you acting shy, gi?" he says to her and she mumbles, "stop it matty," into taylor's shoulder.

shay barrels into taylor's legs as soon as she puts gigi down and squeezes her, making taylor laugh.

"this is my dreamer," matty says, "and this is my genius," he says, pulling valley out of the crowd and setting her in front of taylor. valley waves to her casually, unaffected by celebrity.

"this is valentine, right?" taylor asks. matty nods. "that's a beautiful name," she says to the girl. "maybe i should write a song about you?"

"no me! me!" shay says.

"about both of you. all of you!"

"how do you do that thing where you disappear in the smoke?" valley asks.

"obviously magic," taylor says, laughing, and then winking at valley. later, when no one else can hear them, she explains to valley the mechanics of it, but before that, she twirls shay round a few times, dancing with her, and then with all three of the big girls. when she talks to the other boys, stevie, awake now, reaches out her arms to her to be held, and then so does lexie, so she ends up with both in her arms, twirling their fingers around in her hair.

description: y/n has been friends with the triplets since she could remember, and after being in almost every video they have ever posted shes been invited to go on tour with them.

"n/n, you ready?" chris yells to me from another room. "yeah" i respond walking out into the main room. while laura and nick talk i pull out my phone opening tiktok.

i pick a song and start recording while chris runs over to jump in. when the tiktok ends, i pick up my phone to watch the video and caption it "tour ready" and post it to my main tiktok.

"love your hoodie" matt compliments after stealing my phone and taking selfies with it. "thanks" i say with a confused smile as we both know chris gave it to me.

"and were off" nick says helping to pack stuff into the back of the tour bus.

after we all settle in and are on the road to our first show matt decides to go live. he sits down next to me as he talks to the many fans while im on my phone. soon enough chris comes around sitting next to me with his arms folding over me and matt which gets me to engage in the live stream. as soon as i do, the comments flourish with questions of why im on tour with them as i am not a "sturniolo triplet" matt starts to adress the comments when chris looks at me and i interupt matt.

"its nothing really deep um," i pause "they invited me cus i didnt want to be home alone for that long and we kind of go everywhere together" i state more as a question "but um yeah, i also didnt wanna be away from them for that long so" i say lightly.

"yeah uh, we knew that you guys would be asking but its nothing deep or anything shes just are bestfriend and we wouldn’t want to do this wihtout her" chris pleads for me as i smile and nod my head, he looks at me and gives me a side hug. matt says his goodbyes and ends the live on a good note saying how excited and scared he is to meet so many people.

after the live ends we head to sound check and when that was soon over the triplets started meeting fans. i stood close by taking pictures with a few fans mostly watching the boys interact. im so proud of them, they’ve come so far. i am in awe.

one of the last fans for now comes over and says hi to me and takes a picture and we then head over backstage to get ready for Q & A's. i am so lucky to be able to be apart of the q & a portion, laura insisted.

the fans ask so many fun questions and i really enjoyed answering them.

"this question says 'whos your favorite fan friend-ship out of all of you'" nick reads. "honestly i- ive gotta say the fan favorite 'chrisy/n" nick answers smiling at us as the crowd screams, matt agrees and the fans go even crazier, chris and i laugh. once the fans calms down i answer with shortness of breath from laughing "honestly mattchris" i say and the crowd yells again and me raising both ny hands up scooting back.

music starts playing loudly and the crowd screams. as soon as we enter the crowd goes even wilder. chris’ arm around my shoulder as mines around his and nicks and we start vibing and sining along. chris and i get close to the crowd picking up a recording phone, singing to it and posing.

after many vibes and video recording, singing, and bereals, the shows over and we meet more fans.

finally, after all the fans have been met, we head back to the tour bus and pack up as it rains. chris and i's hoods are up as we pack stuff in the trunk and fans record.

we enter the bus and i hug everyone telling them that that was amazing and how proud i am of them. soon after, we go through a drive thru as i scroll on my phone on the couch. i laugh as i scroll past so many fan edits of chris and i, showing him the funny ones.

“theres seariusly so many it’s like insane.” i say to the recording camera nick is holding.

“n/n, chris have you seen all these edits?” matt says laughing knowing we definitely have. I hit him playfully rolling my eyes and then lay my head on chris’ lap as he scroll through tiktok and nick stops the camera.

No, I mean, this is an interesting topic that I think we should 100% get into to "warm up" for the tour. I bet we'll have even more to say once we start getting content from the first new shows in September. (omg not too far away now aaaahhhh), so everyone feel free to chime in, but basically, here is how I think about it ( this is probs gonna be long. apologies in advance. im gonna add a "keep reading" so i dont destroy y'all feeds).

The first thing we need to remember is that Matty's "Truman Black" persona pre-dates the ATVB tour. He's always been "Truman Black." He's always been a jokester, a meme lord, a bit chaotic, a bit sexy, a pastiche or caricature of himself.

The question, then, is why? Why does he do this?

For several reasons. And he's been nothing but honest with us about them.

From as early on as 23 years old, when ST first started blowing up and the boys cultivated a following, Matty became acutely aware of the spotlight and the way that fans idealized and idolized him. Sexually desired him, saw him as this rockstar figure. And it made him uncomfortable because, well, no real human being could live up to such a fantasy, right? That's really what the song "Love Me" is about. He experienced this during album 1 and instantly wrote about it for album 2. like thats how strongly he felt it. He's more eloquent about it than I can ever be, so I'm going to link you to his explanation of "Love Me."

so, as he's pointing out in his explanation, he plays this kinda ridiculous character to "subvert" expectations. right? even in the mv, he has cardboard cut outs of sex symbols and heart throbs like Harry Styles etc. and he takes his shirt off and stands next to them and makes out with them and all that. Usually, the normal rockstar-fan relationship is that we project our fantasy upon the rockstar and the rockstar accepts it obligingly. But Matty's going "well this is really kinda silly, and it makes me feel sooo disconnected from myself if i turn into this person everyone thinks i am, so what am i gonna do? oh I'll just lean into the silliness." so if he can't do the "fake authenticity" of the cliched rockstar, hes gonna do a very authentic fakeness of being loud, and silly goofy funny messy larger than life, etc.

He explains it here (I've cued it up to the right moment in the video). He's right, if you're a stranger and you know nothing about him and you see him behaving in a Truman-black-esque way, you'd think "wow what an arrogant piece of shit this dude is." BUT if you realize that he's like "i KNOW that you all think of me this way. And YOU (the fans) know that I know that you think that way." we become in on the joke.

You know what im gonna say here. Postmodernism. LMAO. No, but for real. Postmodern art naturally has this "meta" habit. It's art that knows itself as art. It's aware that it's not real. Like movies that are constantly referring to themselves as movies. breaking the experience of illusion for you by constantly reminding you that what you are watching has been filmed and edited. it's not real life. Thats what Matty does with the "rockstar persona" constantly reminding you "it's not real. im just a character made up in all our heads. I'm actually a normal human being but my job is kinda fuckin mental."

So, I think those 4 points, from VERRRYYY early in Matty's career are the genesis of Truman Black. Thats what "Truman Black" is based on.

You could ask, well, if Matty has been this way from the very beginning how come it's such a problem now? how come this whole thing is a new issue??

I think its the perfect storm of this year.

The ATVB show was designed to push the blurry lines between Matty Healy/ Truman Black to their very limits cuz they added extra layers of meta-theatricality to an already meta situation haha. He plays himself in the couch scene, and the raw meat scene, but he's also kind of playing a symbolic version of himself that's supposed to apply to a lot of straight men, but then the show is also about the lines between his personal and his public lives.

Then he goes and does the Truman Black rockstar shit in the second half of the show. So, the tour really could've been called "Matty Healy: At His Very Truman Black-esque" and it would have been accurate. Like he took this concept and stretched it to see how far it could take him.

Then of course you have the podcast thing, the taylor swift thing, the twitter cancelation cycles, etc etc etc.

There were so many new eyes on him. and so much out of context (remember, meta-theatricality needs context. needs the audience to be in on the joke. we have to know 'oh hes making fun of himself being a rockstar') cuz if we don't have the context he really comes off as a guy who's in love with himself and his rockstar status haha.

Now that alllll of this background is out of the way, lets discuss the questions that you've brought up.

Is he Matty or is he Truman Black?

I think lots of people didn't notice that when he threw out the lab coat that was labeled "truman black" in the video, he wasn't serious. he instantly starts doing the robot dance, flipping the camera off with his finger, acting disruptive by riding the trolley thingy. All Truman Black behavior: mischief, breaking rules, etc. so it was a "meta" joke. he tossed the character then acted like the character. a contradiction. ironic. Truman Black's never been gone! he and Matty are intertwined necessarily. you can't separate one from the other.

Is he gonna be acting at all in S...ATVB?

Yes. He will. He's working with Brad Troemel whose sense of humor is very close to Matty's and who loves irony and postmodernism.

Does he use Truman Black to "hide from difficult situations" or to "run from his emotions" or whatever that tweet was saying? no. He uses it to deliver social critique. About masculinity being ridiculous, about our relationship to artists and the fantasy of perfection in Rockstar cliches, about performative wokeness.

Those are the very same beliefs that Matty Healy believes in. hes always criticizing these things in interviews and speeches and stuff. So, no, hes not hiding behind the character to disassociate he IS the same guy, just a slightly less dramatized and exaggerated version.Thats why he doesn't completely turn it on or off at any time. Thats why it's not that he was willing to stop it for a relationship and then start it again when it didn't work out. Thats not how Matty operates at allll.

He didn't throw out his belief that performative wokeness is harmful and stupid, he didn't throw out his belief that leftist masculinity is confusing, he didn't change who he is at his very core just to be mr nice guy, or to be sincere, or to get his dick sucked off by Taylor Swift, or whatever these people think is the reason. He's always been this way; he very likely will always be this way. Thats just how he makes art and how he thinks about the world.

He's always BEEN open to embracing emotions and being sincere. "I love you, don't you mind?" "we're only human we're just like you man" "I'll quote on the road like a twat," "im petrified of being alone, its pathetic," "im just pissed off because you pied me off after your show," "you pick a fight and i'll define it" "i said its cool i was messing but its true," "pretend that i know what it is (i wasn't listening)" "sorry that I quite like seeing myself on the news. im sorry that im someone that i wish i could change, but ive always been the same."

i agree with the theory that they had a fight last week, because night two especially taylor was pissed, ive watched so many eras livestreams and she was performing certain songs wayy differently. so the breakup didnt shock me. the walk back in the people article and the “who knows?” energy seems like they made up though. this scenario fits best to me because if it was a fake breakup or just “we’re casual let’s see,” i dont think she would’ve been so off. taylor is NOT an actress lol.

Chapter 8

About mid-way though the concert, things had finally slowed down at the merch stand, and jules finally had the chance to step away to watch some of the set. Before she left she turned to the other volunteers and asked "Everything ok here with you guys, would it be ok if I stepped out for a bit?". They smile and nodded their heads, she quickly makes her way from the lobby to the main theater.

She walked over to mark who walked her past the barricade and off to the right, where the bands photographer and Jaime were standing, "You may want these" mark said, handling her a pair of earplugs, "Thank you" she responded and put them in.

Matty was currently talking about the record and some of the memories he had while working on it, so it had quieted down to just him and a few fans screaming 'I love yous' occasionally.

As matty was walking up and down the stage he spotted jules in the corner, they pair made eye contact and she sent him a small wave. He smiled widely in her direction and winked , "Ok everyone this next song is one of my personal favorites and its a dancing song so I better see everyone up on their feet dancing"' he speaks into the mic, then george starts the song. The familiar intro to If you're too shy (let me know) begins, Jules screams in delight and moves a bit closer to the stage.

When it gets to the chorus, jules jumps up and down dancing and singing along to the song. Matty looked over at the girl and smiled, he knew she would be happy they played this song, as he knew it was one of her favorites.

Eventually the song ended and the familiar tune of 'Fallingforyou' starts, Matty made his way over to the side she was standing at and looked to her as he sang. Jules's heart beat spead up, 'does this mean he's falling for me, what a way to be told getting serenaded by him' she thought, not breaking eye contact with him . And when the iconic line came up he bent down closer, trying to get even closer to her 'I dont wanna be your friend I wanna kiss your neck' he sang and sent a wink in her direction, before standing back up and walking away. 'When he said he have me on my knees tonight, he wasn't joking, god the things I'm going to do to him when we're alone" Jules thought, as she watched him finish the song.

Jules was able to watch the rest of the show, but as soon as they announced their last song, she unfortunately had to make her way back to the lobby. She walked slowly out of the theater, trying to catch every second of the song, 'Sex', she was bummed she couldn't stay for the whole song, but knew she'd have a chance in the future to see it. She took one last look at the stage, and quickly slipped out the door, and back to the merch table.

Soon the music came to an end and the theater doors burst open revealing the hoards of fans walking in her direction. The merch stand was busy for the next hour, then finally around 9:30 the crowd had died down and jules and the volunteers started packing up. It took them a little under an hour to put everything back in the boxes and haul it to the truck that was parked out back.

Jules grabbed the last of her stuff and made her way backstage, hoping that the band hadn't left yet. As she was walking to the green room, a hand quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a small dressing room. "Hello there" Matty said, a large grinn plastered on his face, he had been waiting patiently for her to be done, so he could get her alone.

Jules chuckled when she heard his voice, "You nearly gave me a heart attack, let alone could've broke my wrist healy" she responded, Matty frowned "I'm sorry darling, here will this help" he said, then kissed her. Jules smiled "Yeah, I forgive you now" she giggles. "Where are we by the way" she asked, looking around the small room, "It's an old dressing room I found when i was exploring, I knew I couldn't wait till the hotel, so I wanted to find somewhere private to take you" he said, squeezing her hips softly and pulling her even closer. "Oh is that so, well glad we are on the same page then healy" she said, wrapping her hands around his neck and connecting their lips.

Jules P.O.V ( sorry i can only write smut in first person POV 😭)

The kiss was hot, his hands roamed up and down my back, I could feel him growing harder againset my thigh. He said he'd have me on my knees tonight and i fully intended on fulfilling that.

I unhooked my arms from around his neck and ran my hands down his chest until I got to his belt, my hands slowly undoing it and throwing it somewhere in the room. I gave him on last kiss and slowly sunk to my knees. I could see his eyes go wide, "You know  you don't have to do this" matty said, cupping my cheek. Ever since that fateful day in the elevator the two had felt a connetion, when Jules would stop by the rehearsal room she would always make sure to say hi and wave to him, all that had led them to where they are now, they knew the feelings came on fast, but they felt an undeniable bond, almost like the universe was telling them something.

" you're sweet matty, I feel the same way, and I can't wait to see what the rest of tour has store for us" she said, as they approached the doors to the outside. They knew the rest of the band had headed back to the bus, as george had texted matty that they were waiting for him.

" Now I'm gonna let you know there's going to be fans out there, so i may have to break off to say hi to a few of them, is that ok?" matty asked, "Of course! i celebrate matty's existence every second of every day, but i know april 8th is like, the "official" day to celebrate him, so yeah, im gonna get pretty emotional here.

my forever theory is that the reason 5sos was (and still kinda are to a very small few) considered a boyband wasnt just cuz they toured with one direction (and thus became associated with 1d's boyband image), not just because they started young, not just because they're all attractive--but because everyone in 5sos sings. (and by sing, i mean having an isolated part of a song, like a dedicated verse or bridge. i dont mean vocal ability or backing vocals.) even ashton sings, and you dont see drummers of bands getting their own vocal parts often.

in typical bands i've noticed, only the frontman sings, and the other members just play their instruments, maybe do some backing vocals. 5sos is unique in this way that they do it all.

like obviously 5sos gaining a lot of publicity in part to 1d is definitely a factor of the boyband label, but i really believe it's because they all sing. every member singing in one song is a boyband staple. you just don't see that in regular bands. 1d was considered a boyband, all the male kpop groups are kind of considered boybands. they all have dedicated verses.

and i know early 5sos didn't like being referred to as a boyband, but i think that being the public's image of them ended up helping them gain traction, especially in the era when boybands were the hot thing. and since all of 5sos sings, it was easier for the public to accept they were a boyband (when they werent).

i also believe that all of 5sos having vocals on their songs is one of the biggest reasons why each member has a pretty even amount of stans behind them. a fandom having a favorite member is something you primarily see in boybands--like 1d or bts and "which member is your favorite/bias?" compare this to the 1975 where only matty sings. while adam, ross, and george have their stans, matty has the most of the fandom favoring him. when i see people online sharing that they like the 1975, i never see someone get asked who their favorite member is, because it's assumed matty is. (i think with the 1975 fandom the stans love the other members, but still really love matty. i could be wrong though. not knowledgeable in the 1975 lore.) with 5sos, 1d, and kpop groups, i see people being asked who their favorite member is all the time.

anyway, the point is that i can see why the public saw 5sos as a boyband back then. its a lot of different factors, but im so solid in it mostly stemming from the fact that they all sing.

What I meant by shaming addicts is that on twitter I started to see more and more people talking distastefully about addictions and addicts due to the lyrics about drugs and the meaning people created around it, not that taylor talked about it. I completely agree that Taylor should be able to write about her life and experiences, and i also know that they are normal swifties dw. Unfortunately we see less and less of them. And i know that taylor cant control every one of her fans, those lines just didnt sit well with me.

I didnt know she lost a friend bc of addiction. But i knew what she said about addicts in the long pond studio sessions of folklore so just casually mentioning drugs like that was definitely weird to me and i didnt like them. But hey! I understand being protective of Matty. I love him too I get it. My issue with what you said was that Taylor intentional put those lyrics in to paint him badly because of his addiction. She wouldn’t do that because of that friend she lost. We don’t even truly know the lyrics for sure? And we don’t know who it’s about. The line that mentions drugs in the smallest man to me just seems like a description of an event. It was just saying whatever happened, whether that be a fictional event or something based around reality. The rest of the lyrics of that song doesn’t even make sense to be about Matty. I didn’t even see Swifties mention it at first I just saw tons and I mean TONS of 75 stans say OH ITS MATTY. Most of the crazy Swifties aren’t listening to the leaks out of respect to Taylor

So I see what you mean and I understand being upset over it but I just don’t think the outrage is channeled in the right direction. Be pissed at the Swifties. They’re the ones causing shit. When Matty does meet Gigi’s crush, the conversation of music comes up. Turns out he’s in a band with his mates and asks to play Matty some demos. And Matty listens and thinks “…. This is actually very good” and then they get on after that

matty is pacing. the boy will be here any minute. the boy and his precious little girl. he's played his song, stay away from my daughter you shit, to the guys, and they told him he absolutely must not play it at dinner. but he keeps looking at his guitar. he could. he could just not play nice. he could do everything you, gigi and his bandmates have warned him not to do. he could tower over this kid and tell him, hurt my daughter and i will hurt you.

instead, when gigi comes in the front door with him, all sheepish, he doesnt do that. he smiles politely. he holds out his hand to shake the boy's. he makes a point to hug gigi tightly, to kiss her on the forehead, to then look at the boy as if to say, "this is how much i love her okay, this is how much i care." the little girls all swarm around him, handing him toys and asking him questions and he distracts himself by picking up a twin and blowing a raspberry on her stomach while she squeals, then turning her round to see exactly which twin it is. stevie.

"sorry," he says to the boy, "it's a mad house in here."

the boy laughs, "i like it. i'm an only child," he takes a toy from lexie and wiggles it in front of her face.

matty says, "hm," and nods at him. he's not being friendly until this boy earns it. he disappears into the kitchen to finish cooking, while you make talk nicely to the boy and ask him about school. matty stirs spaghetti and listens to make sure this kid doesnt say anything out of line.

valley is standing beside him for a long time before he even notices. he jumps when he sees her and she grins.

"do you need help, daddy?"

"no baby go play."

"i dont want to," she says, "i want to make spaghetti sauce."

"why?"

"i'm not used to having a boy here," she says, almost shuddering, "feels... odd."

matty laughs, "i love you my girl. okay go get me the tomatoes from the fridge."

matty manages to be pleasant the whole way through dinner. he smiles at gigi, to let her know everything is okay, and to be honest, the boy seems nice. matty looks at gigi, he thinks about being on stage, about singing ruins for the first time, about running to the hospital afterwards, about seeing gigi, wrinkled and small and screaming, about the warmth of her laying on his bare chest. he doesnt finish his dinner.

when everyone else is watching tv/playing afterwards, matty excuses himself to put the twins down and get valley in pjs before sending her back downstairs. he pauses at the top of the stairs, about to follow, and then instead he slides into his music room. he has loads of messages on his phone from the guys, hows it going, whats he like, gigi okay?

he doesnt answer them. he picks up a guitar and starts plucking, quietly, so you dont hear and tell him to stop being anti social. he plucks the bridge of ruins. the only thing about us that's easy is love

suddenly there is a noise and he looks up. gigi's boy is here, wide eyed and slightly scared.

"oh sorry, i thought this was the bathroom."

matty smiles at him, "down the hall kid," he says.

"oh my god, that guitar is sick."

"right?" matty says, and explains where he got it, and how rare it is.

"i'm so jealous," gigi's boy says.

"you play?"

"yeah electric, acoustic and bass," he says.

matty nods, impressed. "got all of those here," he says, gesturing to where his instruments hang on the walls. gigi's boy looks around, awed.

"this is SO cool!" he says.

matty finds himself smiling.

"i'm in a band, you know," the boy says suddenly, quietly, shy.

"yeah?"

"yeah. me and a few mates from school."

"gigi didnt tell me that."

"we asked her to be in it," the boy says, babbling, "cos she's wicked on the drums. but also because you know, i've had this big fat crush on her since i've known her and it would be a good way to like, get to know her, but she said no, she said she'd rather i take her out for ice cream instead. she's so confident. i love that."

matty is smiling. the boy is blushing. he presses his lips together.

"i'll go find the bathroom," he says. "thanks for letting me see the guitar"

"what kind of music?" matty says. gigi's boy pauses and then turns. "does your band play?"

"erm, indie rock."

"sweet," matty says. "you written anything yet."

"erm," the boy says, and wiggles his phone out his pocket. "there's this. we recorded it the other day."

the song is called crush. matty listens. he hears the mistakes. the bum notes. the bits where the band aren't in sync. but other than that, it's good. for fifteen year olds, its more than good.

"that's... good mate. that's really good."

the boy grins, "really?"

"you write it?"

"i'm the main songwriter. yeah."

"yeah. not half bad at all. you guys should come jam with me and my band sometime."

"no way?!" the boy says, "really?"

"yeah. get gi to set it up."

"okay. no way. awesome!"

there is a pause and then matty says, "dont you need to piss?"

"erm. yes. yes sir. thank you," and then he is gone.

matty replays his song in his head. the lyrics. crush. it's obviously about gigi. its sickly. its sweet. it's a teenage boy crush. its him. years and years ago in ross' garage, crushing on some girl and writing about it.

he's written a song about gigi and now someone else has too. she's not just a muse. she's a fire cracker. a genius. a person. he knows that. but he also knows that if this guy likes her enough to write a song like that about her, the way he did with a teenage crush years ago, then maybe, just maybe, he's alright.

fuck billie joe armstrongs shitty kid for tweeting there was gonna be a MCR reunion and ruining it for so many of us. yeah people had their theories or whatever but its the place of fans to figure that out from clues and have fun with the mystery of it and hope. its not the place of billie joe armstrongs rich bully spoiled brat to tweet that out and snicker about spoiling it for his 15 year old fans because his daddy told him.

it was something very very small and insignificant but it just showed how little they understood what being in a band is about and how little respect they had for the magic/story/creativity aspect. and how all they cared about was abusing every iota of clout for “tea.”

like its so small and pointless and not many people saw the tweet or paid attention to it but it gets my blood pressure going. the attitude of it makes me so mad. they thought it was so funny to use their privilege and connections to spoil an artistic endeavor a massive and much more respected rock band was planning for nearly a decade.

like the entire breakup of the band, their last song, gerards comic, the new concept album, the branding, so much work into this story about a fallen saint rising from the ashes because that creative aspect and fictional world and story is so important to kids in their target demographic that need something to escape into and believe in. and swmrs didnt give a shit at all. so many other people in the industry and other nepotism probably knew and kept their fucking mouths shut because NOBODY behaved as egregiously as swmrs did. to be honest, swmrs were probably not intelligent enough to comprehend the concept they were going for in the first place because the best they can come up with is fucking april in houston.

Either a) Maylors or b) fans in both fandoms who think that it’s unfair of one fandom to purge the other person from their fav’s discography cuz they don’t like them. Like they feel it’s important to acknowledge that Taylor/Matty wrote about each other and not just select the music and exes that they like etc.

I COULD BE WRONG THOUGH I DONT ACTUALLY KNOW IM JUST GUESSING.

I don’t really care cuz I feel like we can enjoy the music without knowing what or who it’s about. The only case where I’ll get mad is IILWY.

For what it’s worth though I don’t think that many people in the 1975 even hate Taylor. I’m very much in the minority here. So it’s really not that dramatic.
