this is your sign to read Superman Smashes the Klan!!!
Tumblr media
It's a fantastic spiritual adaptation of the original radio show episode that actually centers the Chinese immigrant family being targeted by the Klan, and cleverly weaves a compelling twist out of Superman history and mythos.
If you always wished the immigrant part of Superman's story was discussed in its political context, this is the comic for you. Compassionately written by Gene Yang with fabulous art by Gurihiru.

Testing, testing... Decided if I'm going to do this excruciatingly-detailed liveblog thing, I may as well go all the way with it and make a sideblog dedicated to it! Hopefully that will motivate me to actually keep working on it at a semi-regular pace.
I'll reblog a couple of relevant posts from my main blog here before I start in on the new stuff, but as a quick introduction:
Hey there! My name's Tyto and this is where I'll be documenting my journey through the Japanese translation of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole books! This has been my favorite book series for literally 20 years, and, since I've been slowly trying to learn a new language, I figured what better way to immerse myself than with some classic books for kids? Doesn't hurt that the Japanese cover art is beauty incarnate and I wanted to own the books for that alone, haha.
Anyway, expect this to be mostly commentary on the language-learning side of this experiment, but I don't doubt there'll be lots of nostalgic talk about the story and characters along the way. :)

Art Burnout is back in full swing and so I decided to make myself something nice with my personal stash of cabochons that were for bead embroidery.
Many years ago (10+), I attempted to learn wire wrapping. It destroyed my wrists and I was never happy with anything I made. Come to find out I was using the wrong temper wire and wrong type of wire.
Fast forward- I picked up the right temper/type of wire. And made some shiny things for me.
And I have no desire to stop.
Waiting on the oxidation solution to come, but that’s all these need.

ouhhhh the neighbour doesn't have any supplies of her own for crochet and I'm teaching her and my mother today starting in just over an hour
and i am ... not selfish with my supplies but i am unemployed and living off a very tight budget (cannot purchase any more yarn for projects unless i manage to do some pretty spectacular savings on my groceries for the month which is... not very doable) so I'm a tad worried she's going to be good at crocheting and want to Make Something with the yarn that i do have fjdskl and I would normally be totally fine with that but considering there's basically nowhere in town to buy yarn (i've had to buy online) and shipping is $20+ lately, that's not exactly a great thing for me right now 🧍‍♂️

I finally finished the front and back panels of the sweater I've been crocheting and my suspicions have been confirmed. I fucked up.
Artists rendition of me trying it on (safety pinned together):
Tumblr media
This thing is going to be. so fucking big. My thought process was "well I like oversized clothes, so more big is more better." Next time I will listen to the pattern...
I would show you the actual sweater, but it looks even more ridiculous irl and frankly it would bring shame to my whole bloodline.

You're getting a bass this weekend? Sick. What kind if you don't mind me asking?
It's pretty dependent on what ones are available at the store, I'd like to try to get one secondhand (some people say you feel closer to instruments you buy new? But for years I learned and played on a secondhand saxophone and loved the instrument dearly) so it depends on what's there and the price. Hopefully there's something in my price range because I'll need an amp too. I also, uh, have no clue how to play a bass, so I figure I'll start on an inexpensive-but-decent one and see how it goes from there?
I read up a bit and saw good things about some Squier Classic Vibe and Ibanez SR300 for beginners, Yamaha in general too. I'm not picky about the brand right now, I figure I'll get a more nuanced opinion as I learn and figure out what sound I want? One reason I want to go to the store is so I can try to get my hands on some to hear the sound of them, and choose from there.

Anyway I put content tags on my work. If something is not for you, don’t read it but there’s really no need to leave ugly messages to some random stranger on the internet
