Welcome to The Tyrian
What is The Tyrian?
The Tyrian is a fan-run blog dedicated to highlighting and sharing the creative works of other members of the Guild Wars community. In addition to art and writing, information on community-run and led events can also be found here, as well as community prompts and creative event weeks.
How do I get my work shared by The Tyrian?
Creative works tagged with #thetyrian will be reblogged here, but The Tyrian also takes submissions. Anything cool that catches the editor's eye is also bound to be shared, as well.
Who runs The Tyrian?
In character answer: Journalist Picah, a jaunty and cheerful asura who serves as the chief editor for The Tyrian out of Lion's Arch. Any non-admin asks will be answered by Picah. The real answer: One single person, me — Jackdaw (more commonly known as Rook or Rookfern by the community). My personal GW2 blog can be found over at @storm-called.

I've been using the monthly screenshot prompts for my FC but with April being a clusterfuck month with Lalas, Viera, and Aura all overlapping and some months having nothing, we use this setup: January: Jobuary. For both combat and non-combat classes, jobs, and general roles. February: Febhyurary, for Hyur. March: Miqomarch, for Miqo'te. April: Vierapril, for Viera May: Mixedmay. This is for characters that are mixed more than one playable race, characters that are canonically from a non-playable race (Padjali, Garleans, etc), characters that aren't any in-game canonical race (like we have someone who has made a moth viera and I've seen kitsune themed Miqo). I also allow people to showcase characters from completely different MMOs like BDO, ESO, PSO2, WoW, GW2, etc. June: Junelezen, for Elezen. July: Julalafell, for Lalafell. August: Auraugust, for Au Ra. September: Shiptember. For pairings whether they're WoL x NPC, two WoLs, or characters of two people who are involved outside the game. This year we're gonna be using the marchofthetropes prompts someone found on Twitter. October: Hrothtober, for Hrothgar. Hoping we'll have Femhroth by the time this one rolls around this year. November: Roevember, for Roegadyn. December: free month. We don't do anything this month because we got Endwalker in December and might see 7.0 in Dec this year hopefully.

Hi friends!
I'm going through a bit of a rough patch and I'm looking to maybe do 1-2 art trades to get back into the swing of things. I'd be able to do a halfbody lineart piece, something like these. (I'd also be happy to do ship pieces if the other person is down) I can do every race or non gw2 characters too! If you'd be down just message me! ❤️

this is alena (al) nightstorm! he’s a lesbian and uses he/she pronouns :)
al is in a poly relationship with two charr, roxana and seneca. tho it’s more like al is dating roxana who is also dating seneca, while al and seneca are just platonic besties :) i don’t have roxana in game rn, but she and seneca are in the storm warband, and they had al join cuz they love her <3
anyway i took like a million pics of al yesterday bc i finally like her look! i originally wanted him to be more butch, but turns out that’s really difficult to do with light armor on f norn lol. still, i think i managed to get pretty masculine? i might try out using m norn for her, but she’s meant to be thin and kinda lanky… and i think the m norn bodies would be too buff :/ anyway i love al and he has a cool hammer :>
fun facts and some extra stuff under the cut! most of it is about al’s non gw2 version, but i want to ramble about her lol (also some old but nice art!)
here’s the fun facts!
al is hispanic
her name used to be neva
his first design was actually a really feminine girly girl type
al, seneca, and roxana were originally going to be a love triangle, but i couldn’t figure out if it should be seneca and al fighting over roxana, or roxana and al fighting over seneca. (tho with the 2nd, it was gonna be seneca and roxana who got together, and al was just gonna be sad, i think?)
then i thought that al and roxana would be a couple, and seneca was just their friend who they’d let come on their dates and stuff. he was an eternal third wheel but like. one that everyone was cool with (mostly. al didn’t really like seneca in this version lol)
eventually i just decided that i liked roxana with both al and seneca, and she has two hands!
as you can guess, al wasn’t originally planned to be a lesbian. i think she was bi? i don’t really remember lol. anyway, his current form started bc i saw people talking about wanting more butch characters, and other people talking about wanting characters who were nb/gnc who didn’t use they/them. since i’d never been super happy with al’s early designs/neva, i decided to just dump that all into him. and tada! i drew her and loved her immediately :)
so here’s some pics from a few years ago! they’re all human here bc this was before i thought about putting them in gw2 lol so al and roxana are on the top row, and seneca’s on the bottom row with both his human and werewolf forms :)

This is my main blog where I mostly post/reblog GW2 things, my art, and RP/OC related posts. Also Me Sideblog (non GW2 Art reblogs): Manavault Sideblog (etc): Manacache GW2 account: Manasurge.4312 (NA) Toyhouse: Manasurge Flight Rising: Manasurge .
Tags: Art - Artgallery WIPs - Wipgallery Gift Art (from me) - Gift Art Gift Art (to me) - For me OC Art - Mourynn Art OC (all) - Mourynn Asks/Prompts - Asks
(The links below are technically a forever WIP as I'm just editing things in gradually as I finish them) . Lore/Backstory: - I only have one OC, so all lore and world building I make will be for her - I'm also just gonna copy-paste what I have already posted on Discord/Scrivener - Everything below should link to it's own post as to keep this post a bit cleaner and more easily organized -> Relationships A collective reference of her relationships with various characters, dispersed with her actual lore as it's just easier to fill/categorize/break up her backstory via different individuals, so her lore is going to be a bit spread out amongst all these different posts. -> Symbiosis A reference of a bunch of different ways she utilizes her Dragon magic, how they function, what they do, and how they change and affect things. While this is mostly world-building, it also contains lore and backstory info (but specifically in relation to her dragon magic and origins, and all other things relating to that).

so i see you tweet sometimes about gw2 and im just curious about your thoughts on it like, plot wise.
i think the story of early guild wars is pretty par for the course mmo storytelling where im paying mostly superficial attention to the plot and mainly enjoying how fun the game is. but around the time you get to heart of thorns they start introducing enough interesting concepts that you decide its worth paying slightly more attention to.
there was a huge problem in the way guild wars 2's narrative flowed because of the way they handled the living world stuff. i love the living world in concept when it was unreplayable because its just neat to me to be able to take such large story beats in an mmo. where you literally nuke your entire main city and change its appearance. but i appreciate the fact they decided to retroactively let you play that stuff in the end! however making it, in the case of living world season 2, optional to buy, but then not also doing lws1 in the same way? it just meant that you got the story non completely and non sequentially. if you just go straight to core from HoT you have to do soooo much Inferring Shit About This Plot from it. It's like your character blacked out and lost several years of their life. 'hello? commander? its us. the guys who are totally already your best friends'
anyway once i got through HoT then i found myself going back to lws2 specifically to unlock the luminescent armor and the respective ascended trinkets since back pre-lws3 the only stat selectable ascended trinkets were from raids, i believe. and then once again it was really interesting to get the map meta-events recontexualized to me from going through the story. and then after that i was invested enough in these characters to go watch the howeverlong supercut lws1 movie someone had on youtube for anyone who hadnt been there to play through it.
all this to say i think there was a lot of interesting story stuff here that would have helped hook more people earlier on if it had been freely available to play in its intended order. anyway
hot: i feel like it benefitted a TON from playing through this on a sylvari pc the first time because the custom dialogue they give that taints it like all of the npcs are suspicious you are going to fucking turn evil. like the sort of 'youre the coolest strongest character in the world!' stuff never really does it for me. i'm way more into 'youre a very powerful person in an extremely fraught and complex political situation' and HoT really felt a lot more like that, with i think it doing a good job of setting the mood for being In An Active Warzone. i like dragons stand meta a lot in terms of things where gameplay really makes the story hit in a certain way. the challenging, large-scale metas make a better multiplayer use of a high fantasy war shining than a lot of them do. getting events that genuinely do take several dozen real human beings coordinating in real time to accomplish makes there be a sense of difficulty and scale that would be rather punishing and frustrating as instanced single player combat.
i know i kind of talked more a bout the combat than the story. oops. but to me the sort of positive feedback loop between getting more invested in playing the actual game and then getting more invested in learning about the characters to continue to future expansions.
I wish I could speak more about lws3 and PoF but i will be real with you right now. those years of my life are kind of a blur and i do not remember a lot of the story beats right now. lws4 felt pretty weak to me in a lot of ways, pretty disparate from itself. PoF though i had a hell of a fun time with. joko was a fun villain he was serving necromantic cunt.
lws4 was ok. definitely more cohesive overall and had some cool stuff. lws5 i think on the other hand really suffered from a bit of covid slump in its content which i will absolutely not blame them for. I would much rather they put out slightly subpar content during a massive health crisis than they overwork people.
CANTHA, ON THE OTHER HAND. WAS EXCELLENT. DEFINITELY THEIR BEST STORY WRITING YET. i had a blast of a time with it and i was specifically fond of what they did with mai trin, a character i was well acquainted with via getting my ass kicked in her fractal back when she was scale 100. they gave her some INSANE dyke drama. it was catnip to me. she fucked that asura they had toxic yuri i knowww they did. kelly hu did her voice for EoD, who i immediately clocked as stacy from phineas and ferb and was as such predisposed to be endeared to her. also who doesnt love an ex supervillain pirate captain. mai trin you will always be famous.
anyway. that is my extnesive opinion on the plot of guild wars 2. great game everyone play it i have over 3000 hours in guild wars 2.

I was tagged by @ladytharen in a cool fic meme! The idea is to post the first lines of your ten most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, that's fine, just go with what you have (if you want to do it; no pressure if you don't!).
Tagging: @ncfan-1, @hoidn, @kareenvorbarra, @elwing, @heckofabecca, @irresistible-revolution, @kazaera, @lantur, @melyzard, @steinbecks
Love, Pride & Delicacy | Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth/f!Darcy, WIP
When Mr Wickham first arrived in Hertfordshire, Elizabeth was as ready as anyone to admire him, and perhaps readier to be admired in return.
The original draft of this fic was on hold for nearly ten years until it struck me that I could begin much earlier in the story, at the first point where Catherine Darcy was likely to come up—Wickham's tale of how Miss Darcy had horribly mistreated him. This has meant more Wickham content than I ever anticipated, but it also propelled the fic forwards.
2. Untitled | Guild Wars 2, AU of pro patria, Gwen Velazquez (Ascalonian human female PC w/ street origin and a missing sister) and Deborah Velazquez gen, WIP
Gwen always knew the Seraph would hunt her down one day.
I told myself I wasn't going to write fic for this, and then, well. I am what I am.
3. Untitled redux | Guild Wars 2, same universe as #2, Gwen Velazquez/Althea Fairchild, WIP
Gwen Velazquez regretted many things about her time among the Bloodcrow bandits. Robbing nobles was not one of them.
I then told myself the main part of the 'verse would be a one-shot, lol, so I didn't end up with a pro patria-sized monster. It's not a one-shot. It's been an interesting balance between trying to lean into GW2 feelings while also staying relatively accessible. We'll see! Someday.
4. the captain and the hero | Guild Wars 2, side-story to pro patria, Althea Fairchild (human female PC w/ noble origin) and Logan Thackeray gen, on hiatus
Even by Logan’s usual standards, the battle at Shaemoor was ugly.
This fic floated around my head for a long time and finally would not be contained, and this seemed the right place to jump in. It probably will never go very far, but I'm still fond of it.
5. and the sun shone | Lord of the Rings (bookverse), Faramir/Éowyn, WIP
The Steward Faramir was, Éowyn swiftly concluded, a strange man.
Fun fact: in my drafts, this was just called "F/É telepathy fic".
6. Untitled | Lord of the Rings (bookverse), f!Faramir/Éowyn, WIP
Even in Gondor, Éowyn was cold. She had always supposed it would be warm, if she ever came here. And after Aragorn’s arrival in Edoras, she had very often imagined herself in Minas Tirith, for all the obstacles in his way. Someday, she had let herself hope, perhaps—and she had come after all, but not at all in the way she anticipated. And she was still cold.
The document for this one is "Fíriel mingling". Guess what it's about! :D
7. pro patria | Guild Wars 2, slight AU of canon following Althea Fairchild (a noble, Ascalonian, human female version of the PC), WIP
I always thought of myself as Ascalonian first, and Krytan second.
It's a weirdly-structured fic that mostly was a depository for my GW2 feelings, with a bitter main character who continually vacillates between hauteur, adaptable personas, and hovering on the edge of violence. Lots of fun and it couldn't have begun any other way.
8. the voices of the sea | Lord of the Rings (bookverse), f!Faramir and Boromir, ft. Tar-Míriel
The dream always began the same way.
I was thinking about how a female, non-military Faramir would get news of Boromir via the water, and then had the idea of linking it to the dream of Númenor for extra pain. The true goal of fanfic!
9. The Jedi and the Sith Lord | Star Wars (films only), f!Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
If Darth Vader did not avoid the sight of his daughter in carbonite, he certainly did not seek it out. Solo’s features had been frozen in lines of shock and pain. Lucy, however, did not look surprised, but resigned, her upturned face hardened into a look of hopeless dread. After his first inspection in Cloud City, he felt no need or desire to examine her unchanging features any more closely.
The previous fic in this series ended with Lucy in carbonite for Reasons. This fic is all about how their relationship develops from there and was definitely the most purely enjoyable to write of the whole series. This opening was one of the oldest part of it, written years before I got the rest out.
The overall story, however, begins more simply:
Padmé screamed.
10. we also are daughters of the great | Lord of the Rings (bookverse), f!Faramir/Éowyn
“Is there no deed to do? Who commands in this City?”
The Warden looked uncertain.
The same universe as #6! I don't usually begin with dialogue, but it can be especially helpful (for me) with AUs, to signal the ways in which it's splitting off or which scene is being played with.

Been poking about the gw2 wiki for some info and found this
Tumblr media
Realms of the dead
Both the Spirits of the Wild such as Raven and Six Human Gods such as Grenth and their servants such as the avatars and Canthan envoys have access to the Underworld and can take spirits to and from there. Different races and beings of different faiths have different afterlives although it is unknown if non-human afterlives are simply separated regions of the Underworld or altogether different afterlife realms.
In the case of humans Grenth, the Judge or Desmina judge a human's spirit once it enters the Underworld and appoint it to its designated afterlife: e.g. Balthazar's followers enter the Eternal Battle in the Fissure of Woe while Kormir's followers enter the great library of the Sanctum in the Realm of Torment. In some cases the spiritual Canthan envoys can also determine a human spirit's fate. However, a non-human who converts to the faith of one of the Six appears to enter their new patron god's afterlife rather than their racial afterlife; it is unknown if a human who converts to revering the Spirits of the Wild would be taken to the norn afterlife after passing. Spirits appointed to different afterlives do not generally seem to interact with other Mist realms' spiritual denizens, which is why the ghosts of the human and norn lovers Nicholas and Yngvild did not want to be judged in the Domain of the Lost so they would never be separated from each other in death.
So if non-human races convert to the humans’ gods, they apparently go to those afterlives. But if a human converts say to the Spirits of the Wild, they may not get to go to the Norns’ afterlife. Hmm
On the topic of the realm of the dead, during ‘The Departing,’ it always bothered me that non-human Commanders/Player Characters all went into the same purgatory. Like it would’ve been cool to see an Asura’s beliefs of the Eternal Alchemy as a purgatory state, or the Sylvari’s Dream as a purgatory state. Norn with their Spirits, and Charr with.. Um.. What are Charr beliefs on the afterlife? I’m afraid I don’t know Charr well enough. Gonna have to do more research on the Charr..
Sorry, getting sidetracked.
I mean, I get it. There wasn’t enough time and/or resources to make different purgatories for each race, but it just didn’t sit well with me having my Sylvari go through that and being judged by a human’s god of death’s judge.
But that’s just me I suppose

are you just not aware of stereotypes about real life acient nords, who are very much white lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mmkay so i wasn’t going to respond to such obvious bait but this is so fucking stupid and deranged i feel the need to make fun of you publicly.
-Your argument here boils down to that I am racist because I pointed out racist stereotypes that aren’t the ones you wanted to talk about, mostly having to do with lore from a going on 20 year old video game that is virtually unplayable. The majority of people in the GW2 community have not played GW1. It’s old, janky, the writing is clumsy, and it bears almost no relevance to GW2′s story. Sorry I didn’t do extensive research into an MMO that came out when I was a toddler. My bad.
-I’m not entirely sure you understand what indigenous coding is. I’m not talking about visual inspiration. Everyone knows Norn are nordic it’s in the fucking name. I’m talking about the very apparent influences from North American and Scandinavian indigenous peoples in their culture and writing. Believe it or not, there are in fact more layers to them than “big viking!” Whether intentionally malicious or not, anet wrote a heavily indigenous coded race and then proceeded to non-stop implement the most vile and harmful stereotypes about indigenous people.
-I’m not “making shit up.” If you’ve forgotten the Boneskinner situation I’m concerned about your memory. Anet has repeatedly appropriated indigenous American mythology to use in inappropriate contexts. Some of those incidents can be chalked up to negligence and the game coming out in 2012, but that does not make it a less relevant discussion. But also I’m not going to walk you through every single example of indigenous coding and appropriation regarding Norn just because you’ve ignored it for however long you’ve been in GW2 circles.
-I’m not even sure what you were trying to get at with the message about Braham. The narrative choices are racist specifically because Braham is a Black man. Not sure how I’m to blame for the direction his character was taken. There was no previous characterization of Primordus, there was no reason the devs had to turn Braham into a violent, monosyllabic, caveman monster. I don’t give a shit about the magical implications or how it implies mental fortitude. You are doing mental gymnastics to find a reason to be angry at me and excuse blatantly racist writing decisions.  But sure, you want to justify racist writing with canon lore? There’s absolutely no precedent for the shit they pulled with Braham. As mentioned in tags on my original post (from @hawkepockets and @antariies i blow u guys a kiss) the bond between dragon and champion has never changed the champion’s personality or intelligence levels to match that of the dragon’s. The commander did not turn into a baby in season 3. Ryland did not get smarter or more manipulative or persuasive once bonded to Jormag. If anything, he became more one-dimensional and honestly, dumber. Actually, here’s an even more comparable example: Kuunavang was perfectly fine while Soo-Won was going crazy and juiced up on the magic of all 5 previous dragons. But sure, it’s totally consistent and justifiable that magical corruption and dragon bonds turn champions into bumbling caricatures.
-The only even close to coherent point you made here is that I didn’t touch upon the developers’ other use of racist stereotypes on a post specifically about Norn. Others are perfectly welcome to bring up these topics on my post or on their own. They already have. You know what nobody else has done though? Sent me an unhinged anonymous rant.
and btw next time you don’t want to own up to your batshit embarrassing takes, at least try to disguise your writing style <3

have 3, 8, 10, and 14 from the gw2 asks for airell, if you'd like! :D @kerra-and-company
okay, im gonna just admit it
i did not forget-forget about this, i just kept remembering about it when i was falling asleepp and then days went by and then it was a month and a half later so-
im so sorry ;w; thank you so much for sending in the ask, means a lot! let's hit it off :3c
3. Do they have any crafting professions?
Airell is an excellent cook, both in-game and lore-wise. I joke all the time how his team misses his cooking more than him when he's away, hahahaha.
8. Are there any juicy rumors about them floating around Tyria?
SO! MANY!!!! The most popular is the rumor about him having an affair with Faren - to be fair, they did hook up ONCE and Airell cringes whenever he sees the guy ever since.
Airell is quite flirty, so rumors about him having multiple partners were quite common and they were quite often the topics of the commander fun club meetings.
Other rumors are that Airell is immortal (even before we learn that they are a dragon scion) - mostly because of their necromancy and they cannot fall in battle. Simply, the commander is made into this undefeated champion who will never fall. Some rumors claim that Airell made pacts with demons and divine beings from the Mists. After all nobody can be that powerful, right?
And of course... a rumor that Airell is a whispers agent who was so long under cover that they forgot who they really were or that they still are undercover and the whole pact commander thing is a facade so the order of whispers can have more power and influence, especially that Airell is not hiding how close he is to Trahearne.
10. What was the most difficult part of their journey so far?
Airell has been through a lot. I think there were three most difficult parts that I cannot simply single out as the top one. So, in non-defined order:
learning of their identity as a dragon scion - that was really harsh for Airell, they always thought they were just a normal mordem like any sylvari, they thought they were no different, but suddenly they learn the truth about themselves and... they are the very thing they were seeking to destroy. How are they supposed to deal with that?
dealing with Trahearne's death - ever since Airell and Trahearne get together, Airell becomes very dependent on their partner. In a fic I'm currently working on, some characters refer to Trahearne as an anchor for Airell - someone who kept them in check without actually knowing about it. So when suddenly Airell woke up and that anchor was gone... they were devastated. they didn't know how to handle it and broke many rules and regulations of necromancy guidelines in the process of... handling it badly. it only lead to even bigger mess. if you want to read more about it, i have a series of fics (2 whole fics, the 2nd one has two chapters)
lastly, and this one will be more physical than mental, leaving the Jungle. Before Airell comes to central Tyria, they live with their hylek tribe in Maguuma. They know the jungle inside and out, they know all the secret places. And after around 2 decades (that's twenty (20) years!) they finally decide to leave and see the world. The world outside of jungle is really different and even though the jungle is deadly, and somehow carts pulled by bulls are more scary than a furious stonehead charging straight at you. Airell also didn't really know the language, so it was really hard for them to communicate with locals.
14. If they were an elder dragon, what would their domains be?
hehe :)
death and plant :D which they kind of become later on, with a bonus of mind, but the mind part is more of a formality of coming Mordy Junior.

Welcome!
Figured I'd make a pinned post for those arriving here from mobile, since it's impossible to see my fancy theme/links. This is my main blog, where I post everything that doesn't fit into one of the sideblogs below.
If you are interested in XIV content, that is entirely localized to my primary non-WIP XIV sideblog (Makhali). This blog does not reblog my gpose work or anything else xiv related. It's mostly birds and Halo ranting. You have been warned.
>>FFXIV blog [Makhali Khatayin]
>>FFXIV blog II [Valera Snake-Eyes] [WIP!]
>>GW2 blog
>>Sinnoh blog [Inactive at the moment, sorry!]
[[About the Monitor]] below the cut! I got chatty :>
Hey y'all! I'm a tiny 33 year old software developer who lives in the Southeastern US with my lunatender husband and our sweet, energetic German shepherd. Most of my free time is scheduled away into various family needs or raiding in XIV, though I also try to make time for video game photography in XIV and character writing for whatever OC I'm hyperfixating on at the moment. The current favorite is Valera - don't let the empty WIP blog fool you, her XIV incarnation is not the original, and in fact I have zero idea what I actually would do with her in Eorzea. I simply wanted to pose her.
Willing to communicate through Tumblr DM or Discord, whichever floats your boat.
I hope we can be friends! OK that's it byeeeeeee!

One mystery about PvZ I don’t think has been answered is where do the zombies come from? See its not easy to figure out because one of the Popcap devs who work on PvZ said the zombies don’t have a concrete male or female gender, what they go by is dependant on their costume--and while that’s a diversity win, it also makes pinpointing where these jackwagons come from.
Like PvZ Heroes has a bit of flavor text for ‘Mystery Egg’ that implies zombies come from eggs. Now the idea of zombies laying eggs is immensely cursed, but I can’t entirely take that as canon because: A) It’s just one piece of flavor text for a card to explain how that card works (Mystery Egg spawns a random zombie) B) PvZHeroes kind of fiddles with the game’s canon, and might not be canon. I posit this because Super Brains has a completely different origin in this game, being created from a random zombie by the Herotron, which contradicts his origin in GW2. (and he’s the only GW2 character who has a completely different origin in Heroes. But I’m getting off topic.) So I can’t really say I believe this as an explanation where the zombies come from, like again... I don’t want to imagine zombies laying eggs--don’t make me think about that.
Another theory is that Zomboss creates them, given he has a degree in Thantology; and if we were going strictly by the mainline games and the GW games that would be the most ‘canon’ explanation, its why the zombies don’t have set genders (why would Zomboss give enough of a shit to give his army individuality outside of their costumes?) because the browncoats, Gargantuars, and Imps are all his creations that he mass produces. But then there’s the comics, specifically the ‘Bully For You’ issues, that throws another curveball. In the comic there is the ‘Anti-Bully Squad’ who is made up of a normal zombie, a Gargantuar, and an Imp. Not only were they not created by Zomboss (who was a college student at a zombie college, which I will not get into because I’d derail my original tyrade) but they also hate his guts. And I know the response is “Well the comics aren’t really canon” but they kind of are now that Patrice (Crazy Dave’s niece) is in PvZ3, meaning that it’s possible that the comics are canon. So I can’t really say that this theory for where the zombies come from is canon either!
Then there’s the obvious one of “lmao the zombies are just dead humans like in every other zombie media” but that’s all but non-canon because: 1) Once again, the zombies don’t have binary genders. 2) I can’t quite find the asset on the wiki, but I swear there’s an image of Zomboss as a baby in one of the GW games. (which is also very cursed when you think about it for a bit) I’m sure a few of the zombies could be reanimated corpses, but I doubt they’re all like that.
I guess it’s one of the unsolvable mysteries of the series, but it still fucks with my head whenever I think about it. The game is on the light on lore for the most part, and I feel like that fact will haunt me forever. I don’t know where I was going with this post.

I've got a Yugioh GW2 AU rattling around in my head that I might do something more with later but for now I'm getting slapped in the face with the realization that, while ancient Elona is a decent enough analogue for ancient Egypt & the Primeval Kings are a decent enough analogue for Pharaohs, for a Zorc Necrophades analogue, once again the sealed evil in a can causing literally everyone's problems is probably Abbadon.
But Nightfall happened way too historically recently. Which means for this to work Nightfall has to have been Abbadon's second attempt at breaking out, & someone much earlier had to defeat him the first time. Which means...Atem was basically proto-Kormir, but instead of ascending to godhood, he was forgotten entirely.
Dammit Atem
Notable beanpole Seto Kaiba is absolutely a shortstack asura and I find this objectively hilarious. He's definitely an Engineer, probably Holosmith (with a couple Mechanist builds in his other slots bc I bet he'd find jade tech absolutely fascinating). Graduated with honors from the College of Dynamics. He also absolutely gets hung up on his height and hates anyone who calls him short
This means Mokuba is also an asura, & probably either also an Engineer (likely Mechanist) or a Thief (likely Daredevil - little dude can move). He's studying in the College of Dynamics also but is way more chill about the height thing than his bro
Conversely Joey is definitely a norn. I was torn between Warrior & Guardian but I think I'm gonna come down on the side of Guardian. All 3 elite specs would work, & I could see him shifting between them as time goes on & he has Character Development
Tristan's probably a charr & I think he is a Warrior - dedicated banner support Berserker, has probably dipped into banner support Bladesworn. He & Joey have been best buds since forever & used to be quite the terror before they made friends with Yugi & calmed down. Joey was definitely an honorary 'bandmate & Tristan himself was probably either a scrapper or a gladium, former Blood Legion
Ryo Bakura is a sylvari Necromancer, while Yami Bakura was a human Thief - but Y.Bakura has really taken a shine to necromancy as just a vibe & consciously or not over time influenced Ryo to be a Scourge (he was a Reaper before, which he still pulls out on occasion). Ryo runs a healscourge build, much to Y.Bakura's frustration, and whenever Y.Bakura comes out, he switches to a condi dps build. In life, Y.Bakura was probably a Spectre & definitely a follower of Abbadon
Tea's hard to pin down besides human & follower of Dwayna. Druid feels right for some reason even though she's not really super nature-y enough to be a Ranger, but otherwise it gives the right Vibes
Duke's also hard to pin down but again based completely on Vibes I'm gonna go with human Thief (probably Daredevil, partially because of his speedy annoying ninja theme, & partially because of then I can make name puns). Probably a follower of Grenth but like...non-practicing
Yugi himself is also surprisingly hard to pin down beyond human follower of Lyssa. Mesmer feels fitting since his deck's whole vibe is based on magic & illusions, but Revenant also feels fitting because he's literally drawing on the power of an ancient spirit that still has a distinct personality & occasionally both possesses him & chats in his head with him. It could be argued that Yugi is a Revenant & that in life Atem was a Mesmer, since even Yugi says in canon that the whole bond with the Dark Magician is more his "other self's" thing, so I think that's what I'm gonna go with. Plus, Legendary Primeval Stance just sounds badass. In life, Atem was probably a Mirage & follower of Balthazar
