#my hot take about ibs vs soto is that soto isn't actually that bad. it's just also not good. #and because people are used to phenomenal work from gw2 it feels worse #like dont get me wrong i can't really name anything that i like about it #but i think you're all forgetting exactly how bad the end of ibs was #the plot holes. the way norn and asura were sidelined. the racism. #soto is boring but ibs almost made me quit the fucking game HFJSJFKDJGDJGS

gonna throw my 2 cents in on this current Fandom Topic;

You cannot give in to resentful isolation. I'm serious.

Even if your last attempts went badly you have to keep trying. You have to make mistakes to learn from them. You have to find out who's worth your time and who you click with somehow, and you can only do that by Doing It Scared.

I fall into those mindsets, a lot. They suck. They're powerful and overwhelming and painful. I have to fight with myself and repeat over and over, No, you know your friends care about you. They've SAID that.

And I have to do this all the time. In minor and major ways.

Do It Scared. Try. If you feel like you've failed? Try again. There are ways to build self confidence but you have got to start with letting yourself feel confident any little way possible.

Don't give in to resentful isolation, that will only hurt you.

We all have bad brain days, weeks, or months.

Fandom will be waiting for you.

If you've started to treat fandom like a vending machine where lore/fanfic/art/screenshots go in and compliments come out, you should take a break.

also, if you feel pressured to post and get a certain number of notes to be Worth It, please take a step back and reevaluate your relationship with social media. like genuinely. figure out why you're posting and what your goal is and decide if it's healthy for you to continue.

and what about when we do try to put ourselves out there, and still no one cares? when people ask us to talk about our characters and then ignore us when we do?

i understand that a lot of it is trying to put yourself out there, but i've seen so many times where me or someone else i know has been actively prompted to talk about our characters, and when we do, the person who asked doesn't reply. what do we do then?

(this is a genuine question by the way. it's happened multiple times ,and everyone always says "well you have to put yourself out there and interact with people!", but even that doesn't seem to help)

well, first off, don't talk to people that ignore you forever when you talk about things that matter to you; those people are (usually) not worth your time, however:

i know you're not going to want to hear this but you cannot take it personally. maybe the other person just forgot. maybe their cat got set on fire. whatever the case, you cannot hold onto it forever. you have got to keep trying, maybe with that person (if you know them to be generally responsive other than that time) or with someone else. if you want to make friends - and that should be your goal, not some arbitrary note or follower count - you cannot hole yourself up in the corner and say Well People Were Mean To Me So I Just Won't Try Ever Again.

yes, to Get Interaction in the OC Interaction Fandom you have to interact with other people. you have to send them asks and reblog their posts with commentary and dm people and put yourself out there. if you want more interaction you have GOT to be the one to take the first step; you cannot rely on other people to do it for you.

"but my mental illness makes it hard for me to put myself out there!" me too!!! i get it!!! that's why i don't post on this blog and i barely speak in my own server!!! but that's the social part of social media; there is performance in every interaction. yes, it gets tiring. but it's always a good idea to take breaks!! you don't HAVE to post jack shit.
