(Refuge, Undersigil)
The deep, bass pounding of the drums shook the walls and floor. Ceiling too, if the intermittent rain of mortar was any indication. It rattled Hyx's organs, demanded his heart take on the beat, which was exactly how he liked it. The orcs in The Well were doing something really interesting with carefully pitched industrial grinding noises they made with rusted machine parts, chanting in dissonant harmony with the groaning cry of the war horn their tattooed tanarukk lead was blowing.
The other patrons seemed to like it as much as he did, crashing their bodies together on the cracked, silt-stained dance floor and crowding around the bar, a collection of salvage lashed together with hemp cord and nails, propped against a stack of re-used barrels. The drinks were swill, clouded with sediment, but they flowed fast and free, and they were strong enough to ignore the taste most of the time. Hyx was good with the trade - no one in The Refuge would expect better - but he wasn't a noob. He was alternating. The thirst that propelled him from the crowd, weaving between bodies in the wild strobe of colored magical light, demanded water.
Fiends were immune or resistant to a lot of things that hurt mortals, but suffering for one's excesses was half the purpose of hell, so hangovers weren't on the list.
The water was warm and the dented tin mug made it taste metallic, but it was clean enough. He guzzled it and considered stepping outside for a piss, extracting himself from the bar crowd and shifting toward the entrance so he could puff his feathers and get some air on his skin. As a result, he was standing in easy view when a three-tailed celestial fox demon with long, white hair pushed past the crowd at the door. Hyx ground his teeth on a sigh and made a token effort to look for an escape route, but he wasn't fast enough.
Siblings were another form of suffering fiends were allowed, nay, encouraged to experience.
Xien strode in his direction, eyes burning white in the darkness between strobes. His expression was anger, exasperation, concern... different colors highlighted different emotions. It would have been fascinating if Hyx hadn't been busy bracing for impact.
He opened with, "It's 2am," and Hyx scoffed because he never understood why normies bothered pointing that out to people like him. If he was out partying until 2am, it was clearly because he didn't give two shits.
"I know," he shouted over the music, favoring his brother with a toothy smile. "You're just in time -  party just hit its stride!"
Exasperation took center stage. Xien knew when he was being annoying on purpose. "We have an early check-out."
"I'll sleep on the trip."
"You'll be hungover and puking on the trip," Xien shot back. "Come back to the inn and get it out of your system so I don't have to smell it all day."
Hyx grinned. "You're not going to fix it? Disrespectful. Am I not your favorite anymore?" He hooked an arm around Xien-di's neck and bonked their horns together clumsily, swaying a little. "Didi, breaking my heart. Respect your elders."
"Gege," Xien said as patiently as he could while shouting to be heard, "Don't just assume I'll restore you if you get excessively fucked up. That kind of spell takes effort, actually. Magic isn’t free."
"Of course it's not." He rolled his eyes and walked Xien over to a wall near the exit where it was a little easier to hear. "So what do you want?"
"You've had fun, you've gotten drunk, probably high. It's a good night, right?” Xien was clearly doing his best to sound reasonable. “So wrap it up, come back to the inn now, and when you start feeling like shit I'll restore you... as long as you go to bed, STAY in bed, and let ME sleep until you actually need help."
"You bargain like a fucking devil," Hyx sighed, but he couldn't help a lopsided smile.
"I bargain like I have two older brothers," Xien tossed back. "Agreed?"
He snorted and tugged one of A-Xien’s fluffy ears. "The little princess of Seven Springs Mountain doesn't get to talk. You should have grown up at Broken Stone, THEN you could bitch about siblings." But he extended his hand with an air of great affront, prepared to trade a few more hours of fun for a get-out-of-hangover-free card.
Then the floor dropped out from under them.

You see, once upon a time, there was a cistern.
In the beginning, there wasn't anything very remarkable about it. It was built of stone and rusting metal, a reservoir for rainwater and run-off from the streets above. It was dark and quiet and alone, except for the ever-growing collection of trash it accumulated as the water ebbed and flowed through it. A peaceful, forgotten place that caused no problems and earned no accolades. Well-behaved cisterns seldom make history.
One day, a creature came to dwell in its collected waters. Slimy and seditious, with grasping tentacles and rings of saw-like teeth, it nestled into the darkness under the streets and made its home there. It attracted no attention and bothered no one, because its focus was elsewhere - an entirely different world, far from the floating city that contained it, a true planet with mountains and seas and a molten core that spun it around its sun. In that world, the creature had enemies and it lusted for their destruction, plotting daily, weaving spells and wearing down the barriers between itself and its prize. After many years of effort, it made a tunnel that would allow it to prey on the people it hungered for and retreat back to its nest from any resistance, escaping across the worlds, across the planes, where no one would reach it. It thought itself very clever for this.
Unfortunately, monstrous behavior indicates the presence of a monster, and the presence of a monster attracts adventurers. The greatest plague in all the realms, relentlessly nosey do-gooders, incapable of minding their own business... the whole phenomenon of adventuring parties is roundly condemned by would-be tyrants everywhere. And sometimes they are versed in magic, though the creature would have considered them clumsy as children compared to itself, limited in their minds, incapable of even rudimentary telepathy and limited to communicating via disgusting sounds they made with their actual MOUTHS. They hammered at the Weave like a child hammers at a toy lute, but they hit the right notes and the creature found itself cut off from its retreat.
All its plans collapsed quickly after that.
But even as its cartilaginous mouth with its rings of serrated teeth was mounted, hung in the halls of its killers as a trophy, the tunnel remained. With no living creature to maintain it, it anchored itself to those teeth, yawning wide enough to swallow a man whole. Then it went to sleep.
Time passed.
The forgotten cistern was truly forgotten. The waterworks of the floating city changed: new cisterns were dug and old, crumbling ones closed off. All paths leading to our subject were closed, and over time the water drained away and left only the refuse.
Decades later, someone exploring the depths of the floating city broke through a crumbling wall and found a vast space full of gently-rotting trash. Then another wall was broken through, and another, as the desperate dwellers in the dark searched for the resources to prolong their miserable lives. The former cistern became a place where the poor and suffering gathered. They dug for valuables, traded them, and eventually dumped their own trash so the next seeker could rifle through it.
The large, round hole in the ceiling didn't concern any of them. No one had reason to explore it, and even if they had, the tunnel was sleeping.
Because it was hidden and secure, the cistern became a place to trade not only garbage, but also information. Soon there was a goblin spit-roasting rats for barter. Then an enterprising wight began rolling barrels of his hobby wine down on alternate days and making deals for a stiff drink.
They called it Refuse at first, painting the letters over the entrances in used whitewash. Then, after a raid on Undersigil, someone messily painted over the 's' with a mismatched 'g' and it became Refuge. Availability of food and alcohol expanded. Locals gathered to make music together in street-corner bands, attracting others. Regular vendors pooled resources to have magic lights installed. Foot traffic swelled. Refuge became a place, not just to find things, but to lose them - inhibitions, memories, responsibilities, cares. It was elysium. As long as you kept the peace, nobody cared who you were. Living refuse, drifting into the cistern and settling in to stay.
Still, the tunnel slept.
Worlds away, there was a catastrophe.
As it happens, the creature that had once resided in the cistern died not far from a tavern called Two Black Antlers, and its jaw was now displayed there amidst the remains of a dozen other monsters as an adventuring trophy. That tavern and its surroundings were being pulled across planar boundaries. Spikes were driven deep into the earth, chains rattling from Faerun to Avernus, reeling and ratcheting an entire city down to Hell. Dragged with it, the tunnel awoke screaming in the language of time and space and magic. It twisted, tearing, shrieking as the delicate threads of sympathy began to snap. But in the moment before it shattered forever, the tunnel opened and a portal bloomed between that old, crumbling cistern and a tavern sinking into Avernus. The ancient mortar gave - floors, ceiling, and walls all shattered. Screaming patrons and debris spun through the hole between worlds as if the dead aboleth itself exhaled them into Avernus, a last predatory act.
Then the portal shattered. The connection between planes dissolved into the nothingness between, and the place where the cistern had been was deathly quiet.
Casualty reports would change continually over the next few weeks as investigators in Faerun tried to tally the number of missing from the once-resplendent city of Elturel. Eventually the figure would crest 15,000.
The 73 victims from Undersigil went unmarked. No one even knew to look for them.
Like the rain trickling down the culverts of Sigil, they had disappeared into the dark.

Immortality/hyx stuff below cut. please do not reblog.
1. Chinese star news on youtube (or a channel similar to that name) mentioned a script leak a while back. I can't find the video at the moment but I think it was Chinese star news.
2. I happened to find that script despite the navigating it took for a while, I think that youtube channel linked directly to it in the top comment at one point
3. The leaked script is like 1000 pdf pages, in expected episode then scene format, expected script writing setting scenes and directions, so it may well be some script from hyx (or idk some older draft script, idk if multiple script rewrites are a thing in this case)
4. I've read some of it and am chipping away at it, the intro pretty much is same as audio drama (which is to be expected, I would assume for the most part it could be the same except for certain scenes or if it wanted to make major plot changes). I haven't read the book in ages unfortunately, so I can't remember if there's any scenes in the book between mo ran as taxianjun poisoning himself and dying then xue meng finds chu warnings body, then mo ran is awake and young again in the brothel. In the script, there's at least one scene right after taxianjun poisoned+xue meng going to chu wanning, before the brothel (and I haven't gotten to the brothel part yet but I'm still Hella curious if they changed it, which I assume they did, and then into what). I don't know chinese well enough to skim this thing, in part cause it's xianxia and in part cause some names I know the hanzi for and some I don't so place names in particular I don't recognize on a skim through (I recognize mo ran lol but he's in most scenes so it's not particularly helpful). Tldr: what I've seen so far is pretty much what you'd expect.
5. I am still, like pretty much everyone, wondering WHEN hyx will come out (it's FILMED AND DONE AND PROBABLY APPROVED ALREADY at least it was when it first went through approval) or if it will come out at all ;-; hyx where are youuuuuuuu
6. It is a trip to think about how all the scenes are shot, edited, cgi done as needed, went through review, went through everything, people exist who've watched the entire finished drama already. And its just not aired yet. Wild.
7. On the topic of leaks, I've also found a few instrumental tracks on youtube that theoretically might be leaks. But also I think they were originally posted on weibo from the composer, in which case not leaks so much as pre-released snippets (since the tracks are only about 1 minute long they're probably not the full length).
Taxianjun ost (maybe?)
Chu wanning ost (maybe?)
However, I haven't played the 2ha game or listened to much of the audiodrama, so I imagine it's quite possible these songs were just on one of those.

all of twitter is saying hyx in spring, you've been in the game longer what's your forecast 🎤 (p.s. have a lovely day may it be fruity)
Thank you homie I needed some more fruitiness in my day
And I absolutely will not believe it until I see it or an official trailer drop lmao, this has happened every season thus far 💀 plus some of the cast members deleted Weibo posts about HYX…
However I would be HAPPY to be wrong, especially because hyx’s streamjng platform (?) listed it as a 2023 broadcast, so we’ll see

ANYWAY i have replayed the Last Legacy prologue so if any of y'all want to jump onto the Astrolabe being mc's Relic I welcome you
cause mc touches the astrolabe, gets transported to Astraea, and is suddenly in possession of a legendary relic??? that Felix claims he doesn't recognize????
Coincidence?? i think Not (also Felix may or may not be lying about the fact that he doesn't recognize the Relic but innocent until proven guilty i guess)

Someday or One Day (2019) - Final Review
I told myself that I wouldn’t cry. And yet, here I am bawling. The ending made sense. It was logical. It was appropriate. There was closure. No regrets. And yet here I am crying. Because even though it’s implied that LZW and HYX might meet and fall in love again in the future (since there’s only a 10-year age gap between them), I’m just sad that everything they’ve gone through in the original timeline is erased. In the new timeline they’ll have a normal, mundane life, and no one will remember how much pain and suffering they went through in another lifetime. LZW freakin waited 16 years to be reunited with HYX only to be killed. But that’s lost to time. All the memories and all that they’ve done for each other are gone.
Tumblr media
But overall, the drama was very intense, but very tightly woven. Never a dull moment. Every episode reveals something about the characters and the plot. You have to pay close attention to what the characters say and the objects around them in order to clue in on hints. Just when you think you have the full picture, the curtain pulls back some more.
This drama should have a ton of trigger warnings attached to it though. Murder, animal abuse, sexual assault, depression, suicide. A lot of heavy topics.
The time travel and body switching aspects were handled elegantly, and there were minimal glaring plot holes. There are many layers to the time traveling plot, but it’s not unnecessary convoluted.
The plot admits that you can’t change the time travel loop. Like Rainless Love in a Godless Land, SOOD deals with the issue of the characters’ (lack of) agency to change the trajectory of a pre-destined fate. And if you do try to change time (which is near impossible), then everything changes in a cascading effect. The drama doesn’t sugarcoat that, like how it doesn’t sugarcoat any of the other topics that it explores. HYX managed to change the course of history and prevent CYR from committing suicide, but she’s also accepted that in doing so, she’ll have to sacrifice the relationship she’ll have with LZW. It’s a zero-sum game.
A lot of the characters embrace death because they realize it’s necessary in order for the next part of fate to unfold. It’s almost futile to resist because no matter how much you try, you still end up where you were destined to be. It’s quite morbid. LZW (in WQS’ body) accepts that he needs to get on the doomed plane in order to be able to return to his 2003 body in order to guide the events.
But at the same time, both dramas seem to say that agency isn’t dependent on outcome. It’s dependent on awareness and choice. When you’re presented with the truth and all possible outcomes, what do you choose? LZW/WQS ultimately chooses to get on the plane even though he knows what will happen. But he still wants to make that choice.
At the beginning of the drama, you’re led to believe that there are two parallel couples. But really, there’s only one couple all along: LZW and HYX. They just inhabit different bodies and take on different identities.
Tumblr media
The acting is superb from the whole cast. Yan Yu Lin played such an endearing best friend in RLiaGL, but he’s such a creep here. I have to applaud him for being such a chameleon.
Greg Hsu and Alice Ke both gave incredible performances. Greg played 1) a bubbly and rebellious high school student (LZW), 2) a closeted high school student (the real WQS), 3) a college student (22-year-old LZW in WQS’ body), 4) grown-up LZW/WQS, and 5) mid-30s LZW with glasses, a cane, and greying hair. He played off the nuances of these 5 characters perfectly. You can feel the age difference between the various versions of LZW, and WQS felt like a completely different character. From his posture, the way he rode his bike, the way he held his head, and the way he he held people’s gaze. In that short 5-minute montage of WQS, Greg brought an entirely different character to life.
Alice was amazing playing the 17-year-old depressed CYR and the confident 27-year-old HYX. HYX has incredible chemistry with LZW, but whenever CYR had scenes with LZW, I was tempted to fastforward those scenes. The difference between CYR and HYX was that palpable. They truly felt like different people to me, even though it’s all Alice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And you can tell that the drama put in a lot of thought and effort to emphasize those behavioural differences, because these are the differences that LZW picks up on. From the way CYR walks to the way she holds her head to her microexpressions, LZW can tell that she isn’t HYX. It’s just such a great;y portrayed love triangle.
While LZW and HYX have an epic romance, WQS and CYR are tragic characters. CYR gets a redemption arc at the end, but WQS doesn’t deserve what happened to him. He commits suicide, LZW takes over his body for 7 years, and then his body goes down in a plane crash.
I just feel that the story is a bit unfair to CYR and WQS. Both have their bodies taken over and their consciousness displaced. I keep saying body switching, but really, there was no switching. LZW and HYX just invaded their bodies and took over. CYR manages to regain control at the end, only to be told that everyone preferred when HYX was the one controlling her body. That is definitely traumatic to hear.
You could write so many essays analyzing the creative choices for the plot direction, but I just want to summarize what happened here. I had to pause the drama every so often in order to update my timeline map.
I’d say the first arc is about HYX travelling back to past, learning about CYR’s murder, and trying to figure out who the murderer is. This first arc ends when she gets confirmation that LZW is WQS. This happens when she sees the drawing of her in his room, which is the same drawing that WQS hung in his office. As the audience, we’ve already seen multiple hints that LZW is WQS, the very first one being when he kneed her the same way that WQS kneed her. We just aren’t sure how exactly LZW becomes WQS.
Tumblr media
When HYX learns this, she reawakes in the present and runs to confront the uncle at the cafe. LZW finally reveals himself to tell his side of the story. In 2003, when LZW returns to Taiwan from Canada, he tries to visit MJJ in jail, but MJJ refuses to see him. LZW drives down the mountain while listening to the Last Dance song. He cries we he remembers their high school days, and crashes the car. He spends 2 weeks in a coma, but during those 2 weeks, his soul or consciousness or whatever is transported into WQS’ body in 2010. WQS has just tried to commit suicide by drowning in the ocean after being bullied for his sexual orientation. WQS’ true consciousness is never mentioned again, so we assumed that his consciousness has just completely disappeared. In WQS’ body, LZW remembers what HYX told him back in 1998, and so he decides to find the present-day HYX and pursue her, in order to fulfil the story about the future that she told him about. LZW/WQS spends a blissful 7 years with HYX until the 2017 accident.
Tumblr media
Right before getting on the plane, he’s approached by his true self. He realizes that he’ll return to his true body in 2003, and knows that he needs to get on the plane in order to be able to give HYX the walkman that will allow her to go back in time so that he’d fall in love with her.
Tumblr media
LZW’s consciousness then returns to his comatose body in 2003. He spends the next 16 years (until 2019) keeping to the shadows, secretly keeping tabs on LZW/WQS and HYX. At some point, which we’re not shown, he makes contact with the uncle. That’s why in 2010, he calls the uncle to make sure that LZW/WQS has successfully been accepted to the same uni as HYX.
Tumblr media
In 2008, MJJ is released from jail. After MJJ’s gradmother dies, he commits suicide at the same spot where CYR was killed. LZW tried to stop this from happening, but there was no use. Fate still charged ahead.
After LZW explains what happened, he and HYX are finally reunited in the present, both now having the same memories, and not one person having more than the other. They are finally on the same page. HYX waited 2 years to be reunited with LZW, but he’s waited 16 years. The scene where he returns home to their apartment was so emotional. For HYX, his absence was recent. But for him, he hadn’t set foot in this home for 16 years.
Tumblr media
The next segment is about the revelation of the true villain, Xie Zhi Qi. By gaining HYX’s trust, he was able to gain access to the walkman and travel back in time to attack CYR, which is the event which caused HYX to go back and inhabit her body. (In the new timeline, CYR gets hit by a car but isn’t attacked).
When LZW gets home, he chases XZQ out of the house, but XZQ ends up killing LZW.
The fourth and final segment is HYX trying to change the past in order to bring LZW back to life. She travels back in time, but she’s now stuck in the sunken place in CYR’s subconsciousness. She no longer has control of CYR’s body, and she watches helplessly as CYR tries to pretend to be her.
But no one is fooled, especially LZW. The timelines plays out as it always has. HYX is unable to prevent the events from unfolding, CYR commits suicide, and MJJ takes the blame.
HYX is transported back to the present. There was no way to change to the past. One day, she drives to the sea. The walkman is broken, so she plays the cassette using the car stereo. She’s transported back once again, to the pivotal moment right before CYR fell. MJJ is now able to successfully pull her back. History has now completely changed.
HYX and LZW’s relationship no longer exists. But CYR now gets a chance at life, and she and MJJ have a chance to be together.
HYX and LZW may not have their memories, but the feelings are still there (similar to how XTD’s feelings still linger in RLiaGL even after her memories are erased). They’re also fated to be together, so they’ll always find each other. The one interaction between that the new timeline didn’t take away was LZW meeting the 6-year old HYX.
It’s left to the audience’s imagination to wonder how LZW and HYX might meet again and fall in love as adults (under what circumstances do they meet since it can’t be at school because they’re 10 years apart), but it gives us hope nonetheless.
Tumblr media
I think one thing that I’ll bring up is that the characters don’t realize that CYR’s death is what causes LZW to become WQS to pursue HYX. If CYR doesn’t die, LZW doesn’t drive while grieving about the past, and he doesn’t get into the accident. It’s noble of LZW to want to save CYR and prevent her death, but I feel like the drama doesn’t explore this moral dilemma. LZW knows the cascading effect that CYR’s death has, but he still tells HYX to try to stop the death. Perhaps LZW knows that if CYR survives, he and HYX’s romance wouldn’t exist, but he doesn’t mention that to her.
One other criticism would be how conveniently HYX managaed to travel back in time again and ended up at the pivotal moment to help prevent CYR’s death. It felt a little too easy, when the entire drama had avoided taking the easy way out.
I also feel that there are a lot of symbols and metaphors that went over my head. It wasn’t until I read MDL reviews that I realized how the use of technology at the beginning foreshadowed what to expect (e.g., finding a doppleganger, using VR to simulate and relive an out-of-body experience). Also, the red ear buds to symbolize the red string of fate linking LZW and HYX.
Was rain a symbol? I remember in English class we talked about rain and water as being symbols of birth and rebirth in novels. Also, WQS drowned in the ocean and LZW’s plane fell into the ocean. Meanwhile, HYX and CYR and linked by their birthdays, but also, LZW was able to differentiate them by how they looked in the rain. It rained on the night of CYR’s death and it rained the night when HYX thought she saw LZW. Not sure if the drama just wanted to be moody or if it was intentional.
Tumblr media
Writing and photographs are big motifs (i.e., how you are reflected in your hand writing and your expressions that are captured on camera).
Objects introduced at the beginning take on new significance as the story unfolds.
For instance, HYX was drumming on an object on the psychologist’s desk. We later see him brushing that object and realize that it’s a rock, and we wonder if it’s the same rock that was used to attack CYR.
Tumblr media
Also, the large tree where they laid under and whispers secrets into seemed by spiritual and biblical. That whole park seemed very...heavenly? Like their own Eden.
LZW meeting the 6-year-old HYX was significant in 2 ways: HYX dated her first bf because he reminded her of the “older brother” who helped her find her way home and gave her a sense of security, and the interaction was also immune to the time change and so it was brought back again in the final scene.
Every object and scene just keeps giving. They have multiple utilities.
This drama is like a masterclass in storytelling. On MDL, someone wrote that the romance is a hero’s journey. I’ll have to unpack that analysis, but I’m guessing they mean that the romance leaves the familiar world into the unfamiliar, encounters obstacles, gains an object, etc., and the returns to the familiar world changed. If this is the case, then I’d argue that the romance goes through the hero’s journey twice because the relationship between LZW and HYX is transformed at least twice.
I’m just in awe. What an intricate, detailed, and thoughtful drama. It’s a great romance, suspense, and mystery drama. I also love that the humour isn’t just for the sake of having comedic relief, but what’s being said actually has significance later in the story.

OHO favourite playlist you say........ okay I’ll have to find one of my favourites that has at least 10 songs ahaaa

i feel kinda bad for shl cos all the fans of hyx and spl are blaming shl since their dramas are being delayed :(
LMAO I really don’t get that altho i can see that the timing might be a little back to back, and i’m not a SHL-only stan by any measure but:
For HYX especially,
Firstly it was already having problems since the end of last year with censorship and review. This is mostly due to the reason that 2ha is a pretty big fandom and is the cult fave in the danmei industry - what this means is that there are three types of fans basically right, (1) Normal fans who love the novel + show (2) Those who fanatically love the novel in some extreme ways haha (3) Those who hate it and/or are HYX-onlys - so you get it all in a bag.
The first type of fans is definitely the easier ones to deal with, but unfortunately in big fandoms you get a lot of (2) and (3). It’s not something that’s exclusive only to 2ha/HYX but because it’s a cult fave, and a controversial one at that, problems definitely arise.
(2) are the ones who head down to the filming scenes, take photos and footage despite crew telling ppl not to do it, not to sneak around filming sites and definitely not to leak photos or footage. They do it anyway. Yeah sure of course it’s a couple of photos every few weeks or a tiny video every few weeks but word gets out. They’re inevitably hurting the show and the fandom with their actions, because shit trends on Weibo really fast, and the censorship committee (not just for the film industry or shows) is always lurking on the site to catch any sign of you know, hate speech for the country etc. and more. Not related, but the point is that social media is watched very closely. It’s not a myth or an exaggeration, you really just got to be careful, and HYX is a show that, despite not having been broadcasted, has consistently trended on Weibo over the last few months. Not always because of leaks, but yeah, HYX is in everyone’s faces. Fans themselves put a fucking huge spotlight on the show BEFORE we even have any content at all, and of course this isn’t enough to like create huge trouble for the show but then we have-
(3), which I believe creates the most trouble - the thing is 2ha and meatbun who wrote the book, has a long line of haters and antis, way before HYX came into the picture. I shall not go into details of how I’ve seen some big accounts on Tumblr here spit vitriol at the book without even reading it just based on the content/trigger warnings and playing the morality card (and I think most ppl who’ve followed me for a while know just what I think about that). Like this was way before any footage or leaks or even HYX being a thing came about - as a cult fave it has its share of haters, and this share is a huge. There are those who get off on their moral high grounds XD and I think especially these ones are the most troublesome, all they have to do is report that HYX is immoral, bad for culture etc. etc. hahaha and yeah the censorship team is always ready to step in on reports, especially on BL stuff.
And of course the larger part is the change in censorship processes - honestly even way before SHL came out in end Feb, HYX was no closer to getting passed by the review committee than it is now. Maybe yes, SHL scenes may be now used as reference for comparison but seriously? People are deluding themselves if they thought pre-SHL HYX was going through the review process smoothly and only hit roadblocks after. I mean, we’ve all seen the leaks, some of them are truly like god-tier scenes that may be hard to explain away. It’s not like they can repackage the script especially because they have to submit everything to the review committee.
I mentioned this in a post yesterday but how SHL passed reviews is due to the fact that they didn’t have to submit a full script. They only had to submit a partial script, and that makes a world of difference. Basically a team, under these requirements, can repackage the script to include the more het looking parts even I feel, and of course some heavy misdirection by the team, it could work. Now that you have to put an entire script up for scrutiny.. I mean, it’s hard. This is just a game of probability.
And the last reason I think is still Tencent. Honestly, I’ve never seen a huge ass MNC like this handle a show this terribly.
1. No control over leaks - This is honestly the dumbest shit to do
2. Terrible crisis management response time - When fans leak footage, it’s standard and practical business sense to control it IMMEDIATELY. They shouldn’t just leave it up to the crew to put up notices and as the company that owns the rights to the show, it’s up to them to possibly threaten legal action as well. Basically a sterner stance would have helped a lot, but Tencent is a motherfucker of a company who only cares about free marketing and publicity without any considerations over impact to the show itself
3. Terrible at communicating with fans - Seriously, I’ve never seen a company or team that’s been this bad at confirming delays etc. and providing updates about a show. I understand that it’s mostly due to them not wanting to affect the review process or create more chaos within the fandom but lmao Tencent allowed the hype to build so much and then goes absolutely silent at crazy rumours. I mean we had to find out about a delay from Cai Bao, their cat mascot, like??? In a really veiled and poetic message that didn’t outright say the word ‘delay’ like damn these ppl have a lot of time
As for SPL,
Lol we don’t know anything about this show. We don’t know if they took out or left in the Yifu part that would supposedly make it less gay or whatever, we don’t know anything about how gay it should have been or could have, so this one might be a tad more ridiculous. I mean none of us have seen any good leaks, and we haven’t seen any of the script, we got ZERO idea about this. Maybe they really went hard on the bromance, how would any of us know hahaha so all the more it’s like people have zero basis to go on, to say that it’s because of SHL. Seriously, everyone’s shooting in the dark.
Technically if laws didn’t change last Feb, I think SPL/WIK should have been passed in the same way as SHL did, but it’s just inopportune time for them.
===
- So tl:dr HYX already had tons of problems, that I doubt were going to go away just because SHL didn’t air, honestly. For SPL, it’s really hard to tell what failed the review, because none of us know what’s going on in the script.
No one cared about SHL, even I only realized the show was airing on the day itself and then made a rec post after I watched the first 4 eps. And if it truly was anything to do with SHL, I’m telling you that the first thing the censorship committee will do is basically shut SHL down, get Youku to take it off sites etc. until it’s reviewed again etc. etc. That hasn’t happened yet, at least not before HYX and SPL were stalled.
===
ALSO!! Don’t have to feel sorry for SHl fans hahaha I’m telling ya a lot of us definitely weren’t OG SHL or TYK fans, seriously! All the bigger accounts I see on Twitter are a combination of CQL/SHL or MXTX/SHL, SPL/SHL and I am personally 2HA/HYX/SHL. The fight is all out on Twitter HAHAHAHA but it’s not that bad, we’ve all got practice. Seriously WHO ACTUALLY is an SHL only stan I’ve honestly not seen much?! HAHAHA the point is we’re all yelling on behalf of SHL as a cross fandom fan, easier for us to do so as well. We’re talking about 2ha/HYX/SPL/Priest dedicated accounts that delved deep into SHL championing for no-nonsense in the space hahaha

Getting to Know You - Tag Game
I was tagged by the awesome @rinielle!! Thank you for the tag, I had fun doing this. <3
1. Why did you choose your url?
I chose my URL because I’m a fan of Studio Ghibli films. “Susuwatari” refers to the soot sprites that are in Spirited Away, and “kompeito” refers to the colorful star-shaped candy they are fed.
2. Any side-blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them.
So I started a 2ha sideblog, but I only have one post on it so far and its just a housekeeping one haha. It was in anticipation for the release of HYX/Immortality. However I don’t think I’ll have the capacity to manage two blogs so I decided to just save the URL and have all my mess on my main blog.
3. How long have you been on tumblr?
So I created my blog years and years ago, probably in 2010? But I never used it, and had only a few things posted. In June 2020, I wiped everything and started reblogging The Untamed content.
4. Do you have a queue tag?
I do, but it’s really boring. It’s just “q” because it’s quick and easy to type.
5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?
No clue haha. I think it’s because I liked anime and wanted to look at gifs? But again, I never used my blog so I can’t really say for sure.
6. Why did you choose you icon/pfp?
My icon that shows in the dashboard is the manhua version of Jiang Cheng. I chose him because he’s my most favorite MDZS character (since this is a mostly CQL blog) and also my favorite fictional character in general.
I also have an icon on the sidebar of my desktop theme, which is circular gif of HuaLian. I chose that because I love that pairing so much (third-most favorite) and also I wanted TGCF representation on my blog.
7. Why did you choose you header?
I have two headers, one for my dashboard/mobile, and one for my theme.
I recently changed my header (it used to be Jiang Cheng gripping Sandu) to a gif of the Twin Jades from the MDZS donghua. I chose that because I love the character design of them in the donghua. I think they are really ethereal and I love how graceful they are in that scene.
My desktop theme header is a BingQiu gif from the Scumbag System donghua. I chose that as my header because I love that ship so much, I love that scene, and I love SVSSS in general. They are my second-most favorite ship so I wanted to represent them on my blog somewhere.
8. What’s your post with the most notes?
So I just started making my own content like a month ago, so I haven’t had that much time to build up notes (and none of my text posts got particularly big at all). The post with the most notes is this Nie Huaisang birthday edit which has just over 1K notes. Honestly, I was shocked when it reached that number because I didn’t feel that good about the set when I posted it. But the comments in the tags have been super encouraging and I am thankful that people like the set.
10. How many followers do you have?
More than I could imagine! I’m still a growing blog, so I don’t have a whole lot, but I’m thankful for each and every one of my followers.
11. How many people do you follow?
Around 200! I feel like that’s not a lot....but I’m following new blogs pretty consistently.
12. Have you ever made a shitpost?
No, my brain is not big enough for that. Though I have an idea for one...but I don’t think it would be very funny or anything.
13. How often do you use tumblr each day?
Too often. I use it as procrastination.
14. Did you have a fight/argument with a blog once?
Never, because I don’t really get a lot of asks and I only use messaging/askbox/tags for saying positive things. I don’t believe in starting fights, and if someone were to try start one with me...I think I would probably try to diffuse it as quickly as possible.
15. How do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this post’?
I don’t feel one way or another, I just simply scroll past. If people choose to reblog it, that’s up to them.
16. Do you like tag games?
Yes! It’s a fun way to get to know others.
17. Do you like ask games?
I’ve never done any because I don’t think I would get any asks...haha. But I do think they are fun, and would consider doing them in the future as I grow my blog.
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
Hmmm....not really sure how to answer this question. A few of my mutuals I think are popular within the fandom, but idk what “famous” means in terms of Tumblr.
19. Do you have a crush on a mutual?
Not in the literal sense! Just “their content is super nice I look to them for inspiration and they seem to have a nice online presence.”
20. Tagging some newer mutuals: (don’t feel pressured to do this!)
