I tripped over and remembered I actually have a bunch of drawings saved up for larger posts that never came to fruition so have them while they’re within my brain attention span (alot of this shit dates back to 2021 or even 2020 so thats why its so uggo)

HORN OF AFRICA COMPILATION (+ BONUS SUDAN)

Despite being loaded with work I had the sudden urge to draw out my Horn of Africa OCs (+ bonus Sudan who snuck in there 🤷)

Anyways, I tested out Vegalia’s hair brushes while drawing these guys and I had tons of fun!! I would recommend it to anyone else who wants to try more diverse hair types, even if its just as a reference for you to draw over👍

To people who don't know him, he may come off aloof, intimidating- tho the reality is is that he's painfully friendly and will talk your ear off about everything and anything

He's close friends w Yemen! He and Ethiopia are often jockeying over who's yemen's real bestie 😩

Passionate about poetry!

Has a nice singing voice, but doesn't sing too often

Whenever he talks, he tends to make wide, sweeping gestures with his arms

Remember when China brought back a giraffe from Africa? Yeah he got it frm Somalia

Extremely blunt and sometimes forceful- he's not afraid to say his opinion!! no matter what chaos he leaves behind...

He's quite fond of Djibouti :) and often thinks about the days when she was little...

AWW THANK U FOR UR KIND WORDS.... and i’ve been itching to draw smth abt mister somalia recently! Here’s mister somalia and mister pak enjoying some fried coffee! Somalia is probably boring regaling pak w some story back in his day...

Coffee beans are called “bun” in the Somali language, and are used in a variety of foods and special rituals. This specific dish is eaten when welcoming guests, as a part of a morning ritual, or during meditation sessions called dhikr, an islamic form of devotional chanting praising God; it’s prepared by frying whole coffee beans in oil or ghee. Sometimes, sugar may be added to sweeten it, or it may be eaten with popcorn or a dish of boiled azuki beans called cambuulo or ambulo. Bun is served from a wooden vessel called a kur (though I have seen it be called a kurbin) It is typically eaten just a few at a time, ladling two or three of the fried beans (with a little ghee or oil) on the palm. You eat off the palm, and any remaining ghee/oil is applied to the forehead. Not only does it have cosmetic purposes, it’s said to prepare a person to face the world; this process is called foolbaxsi.

Found coffee while he was on a religious stint in a monastery, shared it with Somalia, who shared it with Yemen, and from there it spread across the muslim world

Thinks Somalia is too rude and blunt lmao

Was forced to work with Sudan for a few decades to kick out Ottoman Turkey from eastern Africa (Turkey had also kidnapped Eritrea which was.... a strange episode)

Fought against Djibouti when she was the Adal Kingdom in a Portuguese-Ottoman proxy war

He's known Iran for a verryyyyy long time- in his childhood, he fought with Iran over control of Yemen and they've maintained cultural ties and exchange for two thousands years

Great at chess! (particularly the Ethiopian variant, senterej)

When firearms were introduced, he was.... not particularly skilled at wielding them for a while

He would rather die than let a guest pay for lunch

Makes a mean spaghetti and lasagna

there's a significant chance that u have my middle east ocs in mind and i must apologize for the fact that It's all pretty relative in my mind lmaooo

KSA is a good deal taller than all of the Gulfi Girls

Oman is slightly shorter than KSA

Iran is slightly shorter than KSA and India

Yemen is a wee bit shorter than Oman but looks shorter than he is because he slouches so damn much

Bahrain is the shortest out of the Gulfi Girls

Qatar is the tallest Gulfi Girl (this is disputed by UAE)

I have actual heights for South Asia here! Sri Lanka is shorter than Pakistan, and Afghanistan is a bit taller than Pak but shorter than India, and that's it lol

I do have exact heights for my East Africa OCs tho!

S Sudan: 6'1 (185 cm)

Kenya: 5'6 (167 cm)

Uganda: 5'6 (167 cm)

Tanzania: 5'3 (160 cm)

Burundi: 5'4 (164 cm)
