Transforming Trauma: Resilience and Healing Through Our Connections With Animals (New Directions in the Human-Animal Bond)
Price: [price_with_discount] Customer satisfaction rating 5
(according to Amazon product Details)
Have you ever looked deep into the eyes of an animal and felt completely known? Often the connections we share with non-human animals represent our most secure and trusting relationships, and offer unique and profound opportunities to heal in times of difficulty. This book focuses on research developments, models, and practical applications of the human-animal connection and animal-assisted intervention for diverse populations that have experienced trauma. Physiological and psychological trauma is explored through three broad and interconnected domains: 1) child maltreatment and family violence; 2) acute and post-traumatic stress, including military service, war, and developmental trauma; and 3) times of crisis, such as the increasing occurrence of natural disasters, community violence, terrorism, and anticipated or actual bereavement and loss. Contributing authors, who include international experts in the fields of trauma and the human-animal connection, examine how our relationships with animals can help build resilience and foster healing to transform trauma. A wide variety of animal species and functions are discussed, including companion, therapy, and service animals. The authors also consider how animals are included in a variety of formal and informal models of trauma recovery throughout human life, with particular attention to dog- and equine-assisted interventions and psychotherapy. Additionally, the authors emphasize the potential impacts to animals providing trauma-informed services and discuss how we can respect their involvement and implement best practices and ethical standards to ensure their well-being. The reader is offered a comprehensive understanding of the history of research in this field, as well as recent developments and areas in need of further or refined research. In addition, the authors explore, in depth, emerging practices and methodologies to help individuals and communities thrive in the face of traumatic events and their long-term impacts. Because animals are important in cultures around the world, cross-cultural and often overlooked applications of animal care and animal welfare are also highlighted throughout the text.

Endless ocean. Wishing everyone health and happiness and brighter sky’s ahead. Stay positive! & wash your hands 💙 & get some fresh air if you can 😊 Did Covid19 come from wildlife markets? When I was filming @savingjawsmovie I was heartbroken to walk through the wet markets, of fish and other animals who were kept alive but unable to move, I don’t understand how people can treat other species in such cruel ways, to subject them to such an existence. I am certain that different cultures have different beliefs about how other species should be treated, but there is no denying that other species of animals have feelings...watch any animal long enough and see how it’s “personality” shines through in different conditions. They are not mindless, they are not pain free, they are alive too. I hope this can help to bring about more awareness and better treatment of other species of animals and end wasteful killing for random status and unnecessary reasons. #respectotheranimals #respectlife #respecteachother #aloha #malama Yes I am #vegetarian #vegan #nature #justathought #humananimal #humanimal #animalrights #perspective #bycatch #compassion #wetmarket #wetmarkets #wildlife #ocean #infinity Photo by @juansharks in a place far far away 😉💙🌊💙 https://www.instagram.com/p/B9_P8T2gI41/?igshid=184j2rhvqz9n6
