OK adon tumblr. This thought has been haunting me since the game came out. So it seems as if the Hugo alter ego is something that runs in the family, like a family curse (my headcanon) and i was thinking if the amazing Hugo was actually like a loving kind man, the one that rose married, and then it was the alter ego was the one that yknow, spawn camped jimmy and started beating him from day one.
On this thought since we know jimmy is aware of what Hugo was doing... do you think the amazing Hugo had to stand by and watch his body assault his wife and son that he loved?
Anyways, just wanted to put that into other people's minds.
Thinking about how Victor Hugo wrote one of the most famous portrayals of prostitution that is sympathetic to the prostituted woman (Fantine from Les Miserables) and shows how she is forced by poverty to sell her body, how it clearly is a traumatic experience, and how much disrespect the pimps have for her in reality... And yet he continued constantly visiting brothels and using the women's bodies - so much so that a very famous rumor was created that all the brothels in Paris closed down to mourn him after his death... Kill all men?
although i understand why tightly-plotted stories are, by and large, preferred by the majority of contemporary audiences, i have to say: i’ve always been more keen on meandering and polyphonic narratives. just… give me all the overly ambitious and grandiose stories with a strong sense of place, over-the-top aesthetic, ensemble cast, multiple digressions, and no conventional plot (or at least no conventional three-act structure) to speak of, and i shall be a very content woman indeed.
(& on a related note: i sincerely believe that we ought to bring back the tradition of long-winded quasi-philosophical doorstoppers originally published in monthly instalments. out with the sleek shallowness of dirtbag realism!)
