I know he's just a shitty fucking side character in a stupid fucking children's movie, I know it doesn't matter, I know I shouldn't care. But that's part of the problem. The part where no matter the might and fury of my hatred, the locus of my homicidal intent is alltogether inconsequential. I find myself laying awake in the dark in the early hours of the morning consumed by the spirit of Wrath itself, all the force and might of a flaming hurricane directed at a bottle of piss in a ditch by the highway. The absurdity of it all burns me to my core. What better things could this energy be directed towards? And yet my disdain for this stupid, useless, insubstantial failure of endearing character design utterly eclipses the intrigue of all other pursuits. I hate him. I hate him on a level of my mind reserved for the worst of the world's array of sinners, and I can't even begin to justify it. Shitstick the snow dick is, for all intents and purposes, the animated corpse of all of humanity's saccharine pretenses- every condescending, passive-aggressive statement of meaningless upper middle class suburban drama distilled into a single, hateable form. The fucking. Fuck. I have no words. There is no cuss or epithet in any language that can encapsulate the height of the emotions I am experiencing. God, I hate him so much. Why are radical feminists anti-pornography?

Pornography is a form of visual or written media created with the aim of eliciting sexual arousal for its audience. The dictionary defines pornography as ‘a printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate sexual excitement.’ The most prominent and harmful form of pornography is online videotaped porn, and while abolishing all pornography is a goal of feminism, videotaped pornography is the top priority and what will be discussed here.

Violence

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Many studies have found a link between violent porn intake and violent crimes and domestic violence is a crime that has been found to have a strong correlation with pornography usage. Pornography can cause viewers to believe that violence is justifiable if it is directed at a woman who isn’t giving a man what he wants, this attitude is one that is very often used to defend domestic violence outside of pornography. The depiction of sexual domestic violence in pornography can also lead to it becoming more normalised in society due to how mainstream porn is and because of how we know pornography can influence the way someone’s views the world and their concept of right and wrong.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

Pornography intake has been linked to increase in sexual assaults and decrease in empathy for victims of sexual assault, as well as people in general. Regular porn intake can cause people to objectify and sexualise other people (predominantly omen) considerably more than those who do not engage with porn. Pornography also very commonly normalises sexual assault and breach of consent, with ‘forced’ being one of the most viewed porn categories. An alarmingly large amount of pornography depicts women crying and in visible pain while engaging in sexual activity, something which further pushes the idea that a woman’s pain is something linked to arousal. A large amount of pornography could potentially be non consensual, which is discussed further in the ‘trafficking’ section.

Exploitation and abuse

CHILDREN

The porn industry profits off of presenting people as “childlike” or “teenage” in videos. Many people have also come out and said that they were victims of the porn industry at a young age. *The pornography industry attempts to normalise child abuse and paedophilia in order to profit off of it, even if it means jeopardising the safety of children and women. “Teen” pornography is one of the largest forms of pornography, being extremely popular and wide spread, which is highly concerning when we look at the fact that teenage girls are one of the demographics of people the most likely to be victims of sexual assault.

TRAFFICKING

There is virtually no way to confirm if the people featured in pornography have consented to sex, especially when considering the sheer amount of violence and breaches of consent that porn commonly depicts.

There are many pornography sites that have been sued by victims for allowing rape, child abuse and human trafficking content online and yet those websites still stand and remain widely popular. However, many organisations are dedicated to shutting down porn sites and raising awareness about the trafficking and abuse that is happening in the porn industry, some examples being; Fight the new Drug and TraffickingHub (please note that I do not have any associations with these movements and they are merely recommendations of where you can find information).

Bigotry

RACISM

Pornography depicts many highly offensive stereotypes about people of colour, degrading people (predominantly women) of ethnic and racial minorities for an audience made up largely of men who are not in said groups. Common racial stereotypes depicted in pornography and pornographic content are; depicting East Asian women as ‘exotic’ and ‘innocent’, *depicting African American women as slaves and depicting South Asian women as hyper sexual. Many of these stereotypes have existed for a long time throughout history and have been used as a tool to oppress and justify violence against women of colour. Pornography depicts these stereotypes in an attempt to elicit arousal from audiences which leads these racist ideas to become associated with arousal.

These racist depictions have real effects on people’s perceptions of people of colour, such as many white men having fantasies about having East Asian wives despite holding anti-Asian beliefs. There have been many great discussions surrounding the effects that racism in porn has in real life as well as in depth analysis on the deep connection between porn and racism written and discussed by women of colour.

HOMOPHOBIA

‘Lesbian porn’ is one of the most popular types of pornography, consumed by an audience of predominantly heterosexual men. Many things fall under the category of lesbian pornography, from two women imitating homosexual interactions targeted for a male audience to straight up *corrective rape or *‘dyke conversion’.

Depictions of two women attempting to simulate lesbian sex for a male audience has many harms, such as smaller but still important ones like men not understanding female anatomy, to extreme issues such as men disbelieving in female homosexuality and instead opting to believe the idea that lesbianism is a choice that exists for male pleasure. This belief has lead to lesbians being victim to physical and sexual violence and hate crimes at the hands of men.

The popularity of lesbian conversion pornography is highly concerning due to the fact that *corrective rape is a large problem and homosexual conversion therapy is still occurring all over the world to this day. *‘Dyke conversion’ porn further perpetuates the idea that homosexuality is something innately ‘wrong’ and that rape and violence is justifiable against homosexual individuals, especially women.

MISOGYNY

Pornography wouldn’t be nearly as big as it is if it weren’t for the dehumanisation of women that porn exploits. There have been hundreds of studies analysing and discussing how porn influences the way men view women and the consensus across almost every study is that men who watch pornography are more likely to view women as objects for sex. Studies show that pornography promotes male violence against women and leads to men to believe that mistreating and harassing women is ok. It is theorised that a large amount of - if not the majority of pornography depicts violence such as rape, assault and verbal abuse, primarily perpetrated by men towards women. Many pornographic scenes portray blatant abuse towards women, teaching its audiences that women in pain is something to be aroused by and is justifiable for their own pleasure.

Pornography only ‘works’ because of the exploitation that women experience at its hands, without that exploitation pornography would not be nearly as popular and mainstream as it currently is. Pornography is and always has been deeply rooted in misogyny and relies on sexist beliefs and the dehumanisation of women in order to survive as an industry.

In summary…

The feminist movement is anti pornography because of the misogynistic violence and sexual assault that is depicted and normalised in pornography, the child abuse and human trafficking that happens constantly in the porn industry, and the highly offensive stereotypes and dangerous ideas that porn depicts of oppressed groups.

I have no problem with conservative women learning about radical feminism, and sharing their experiences as a women who’s faced a misogynistic world. What I DO have a problem with is acting like blatantly non-feminist beliefs should be accommodated in radical feminism. The number of radical feminist beliefs incompatible with conservatism is too many to count. Learn about different beliefs, share your perspectives, and keep an open mind instead of acting like anti-women beliefs and actions can be pro-women if only you call yourself a specific thing.

Being a girl without close girl friends I spend time with feels like some sort of spiritual jail I've been put in for this particular lifetime and it's such a walk of shame in this day and age like I can't count how many reels or tiktoks I see of girls saying stuff like "girls who don't have girl friends??? RED FLAG!!!" Or like jokes about when you befriend the girl who has no girl friends and then you realize why...yikes! Cause she sucks and is toxic and unlovable! And I'm like ouch, that's tough to hear. I know those narratives are popular because girl friendships can be painful and I'm sure there's lot of people out there who have been deeply unkind whether on purpose or not but I guess it pains me to watch people make laughable comments about lonely women. I feel like being a lonely woman is such a derogatory notion already deeply imbedded in society and sexism that I feel like it's just sort of being reframed in the new age as like "she did that to herself" and that's never true, we are all the result of the love we get or don't and it's definitely our own responsibility how we act and how we heal or don't - but it feels so judgmental sometimes to further "other" women who don't have friends

I think some people realized saying "feminazi" was starting to reflect badly on them so they shifted to "TERFs, who are just like nazis" instead. Every generation needs its own inventive way to legitimize its fear and disgust for female liberation, and this permutation is no different.

It speaks volumes that people find this comparison accurate. "Feminazi" and "nazi terf" are statements about the speaker's own emotional reactions: they either find nazism so trivial or female liberation so horrifying that they find truth in this comparison.
