oh ho ho, so this is certainly a thing i've considered

as someone who maladaptive daydreams all day long (whenever i'm not writing basically), trust me when i say i have an entire life planned out

in fact, the things i write frequently represent these daydreams, except i have an OC for them, whereas for writing, i am committed to the 'x reader' way

first, I feel like being a heretic would be so fucking cool

like… vampire with witch powers, c'mon now… being the underdog your whole life and then rising to be the most powerful, it's gotta be redeeming

plus seems so fun

but personally, I think I'd stick to being just a witch, and I have a solid reason for this

now, being a vampire would be cool, too (and honestly I need to write more vampire reader fics), because I absolutely love the bloodthirsty, badassery of vampires

so if not a witch (bc I love the thought of being able to do magic), I would go with vamp second

I still hate the TVDU wolves. literally all of them. as someone who watches Teen Wolf now, I would LOVE to be one of those wolves, but as for TVDU, I still HATE those guys

being a hybrid doesn't sound too bad, although then both Klaus and Tyler would be all up in my business all the time, and that sounds awful

so no wolfishness for me

Klaus is a frenemy; I like him when he's not murderous. he can be loyal when he wants to be, same with Elijah.

in fact, I liked Elijah in s2-era, but was also a little afraid. my crush fizzled out the moment I saw Kol, but then she & him became good friends instead (with both)

hooked up with Kol once or twice when he still lived in MF

friendly with Jo, but she's not really having it once I get with Kai

same with Luke and Liv... friendly, but Liv hates me after the merge

circa-season 7, I want to be friends with Nora & Mary Louise, but the MF gang works hard at keeping me away from them

amidst the chaos, I manage to get my way and befriend them anyway, earning their trust by being so close to Kai

when I die, I'm given blood by Nora, like in the fic I wrote recently, or Damon, who likes me enough to keep me alive and knows Kai would slaughter him if he ever came back and found out

seasons 7-8, I'm very much teaming on both sides, friends with MF gang and heretics, which is frustrating to MF gang (minus Caroline, who has become somewhat reliant on heretics for help with her pregnancy. + she always understands me anyway.)

frenemies

Tyler and Matt get their own category, bc I don't hate them, but they certainly piss me off

Tyler's just annoying in general, and I hate how he treats Caroline while he's away hybrid-ing

he gets better in s6 when he's trying to impress Liv & Caroline is over him. still not a friend, but less of an enemy

Matt, on the other hand, is complicated

he was my way into the supernatural bc we worked together

he had trouble keeping it from me bc vampires would always show up at the grill, and one time, he forgot I wasn't in the circle and ranted about vamps and wolves before he remembered

he and the gang still try to keep me out of it, despite my knowledge

but that all fails when Kol is undaggered, finds me alone, and we become friends

the fact that he actively hates vampires while hooking up with Rebekah bothers me, which causes tension between us

but he's stronger than he looks and loyal if he trusts you, so I try to keep him on my good side

family

my TVDU OC is the same OC I've had since I was 13 that I've slightly adapted for different fandoms

in TVDU, my parents are divorced; mom moved away, and toxic dad lives about 2 hours away while I'm in college

I hide whenever he comes to MF to visit

occasionally, my parents are dead like everyone else's

sometimes, though, I'm the older sister of other characters, but that varies per daydream

sometimes, I'm Tyler's older sister who is actually a wolf

triggered my curse young in life by accident, but didn't tell Tyler until he had triggered his own

sometimes, I'm even Matt's older sister, and he still spends every waking minute trying to keep me out of the supernatural

I've also used the Salvatore sister storyline with Kol, and Gilbert cousin one for both Kol and Kai

dating life

MF gang tried sooo hard to us apart, especially bc I'm a witch, but they lost that battle quickly

couldn't keep me from work, so whenever he'd come in for a drink and I was bartending, we'd talk

gained his trust through listening & he gained mine when I let him siphon

Matt and Damon first to realize we're friends, and know there's nothing they can do

fall into a relationship quickly

either beg Damon to spare him at the end of s6, or beg for his life in s8

had a crush on s2-era Elijah, but did a 180* and fell for Kol instead when he was undaggered

used as Kol bait when Caroline was Klaus bait, but despite a few hook-ups, never actually dated

became close friends & adore his relationship with Davina in NOLA

visit him there or wherever he is every so often

[I honestly never built a solid storyline around being with Kol or Elijah. (Elijah was my first favorite ever, and Kol's my second fave now next to Kai.) I entertain a world of delulu with Kol sometimes, but it lacks foundation.]

basically, he never died (obvs) and I move to NOLA with him (and he never dies there, too)

but I love both witch & vamp Kols, and both their actors, and I really should dedicate more time to delulu daydreams with them 😅

so, now that I've rambled...

species: witch, until Kai's death, then i become a vampire. however, if Kai doesn't die after s6, neither of us turn. (sometimes I'm feelin' heretic-y, sometimes not, what can I say?)

career: working at Mystic Grill; at Whitmore College for two years, but dropped out

friends: Caroline, Bonnie, & Elena first. Stefan & Damon post season 1 when Damon mellows out and I learn to trust Stefan. Kol & Rebekah, and I'm okay with the rest eventually (minus Finn).

family: divorced parents; mom moved and I stay away from my dad

frenemies: Matt & Tyler. s2 Klaus & Elijah. Finn, because I know he was mistreated by Klaus, much like Kol, and I want to be friends, but then he tries to kill his whole family, so I don't feel bad anymore. Then when Finn killed Kol in NOLA, he became a straight-up enemy. Also, I tolerate Alaric, but he annoys me daily in s6-8-era.

trick or treat? :]

When it’s finally time for his shift to end for the night Stan’s elated. It’s been even busier than it normally is for over a month now and Stan is starting to lose his patience with it, to be blunt. The recent Floo shutdown being both a boon to business and a hindrance at the same time. Shaking the thought out of his head as he heads up the stairs Stan switches to another topic, specifically if Percy will already be home or not.

He would be normally or well before everything but ever since the shutdown Percy’s been working hard at trying to figure out what’s going on with it and having no luck. Anytime Stan asks him, Percy just groans and starts rambling annoyed at not having figured it out yet. Everytime he thinks he gets close to the solution it's like something changes suddenly, the colour of the fire changes or the network comes back on by itself just to send people to the wrong place. 

Stan thinks someones sabotaging him and he thinks Percy agrees, even if he won’t say it aloud. It’s just too much of a coincidence, Percy becomes the head of magical transportation and now suddenly somethings wrong with the Floo and no one seems capable of figuring it out? No, there has to be more going on then they're seeing.

When he makes it into their flat and sees Percy sitting passed out on the couch he’s happy that he’s finally letting himself rest a bit. Even though it was probably unintentional by the looks of it. Papers all over the table in front of him, his glasses sitting skewed on his face, not to mention the way he's draped over the arm of the couch, doesn't look very comfortable.

Deciding it’s going to be in his best interest to get him to move, Stan starts walking over to the sleeping man and tries to make as much noise as possible while doing so. If this were one of those romance books Percy likes so much he’d go right up to Percy and pull him into his arms to carry him to bed himself, even if his height would make it a bit difficult. it’s not though and he knows how badly Percy is likely to respond to that after everything he’s been through. The last thing Stan wants is for Percy to wake up scared again. Once he’s only a few steps away Percy finally opens his eyes.

Stan stays still while Percy comes back to the world of the living only moving closer when Percy reaches out towards him. Wrapping his arms around him and letting Percy pull him down onto the couch so Percy can rest his head on his shoulder.

“Oh, you are tired if you’re acting like this.” Stan says laughing quietly when all he gets in response is a mumbled hum.

“Why are you still in your uniform?” Percy asks groggily.

“I just got in, ‘aven't even showered yet.” Stan responds, running his fingers through Percy hair. Percy doesn't respond to that just letting the silence fall. Stan would think he fell back asleep if he wasnt moving every once in awhile.

After a few minutes of letting him cuddle up to him Stan pulls away far enough to leave a kiss on his cheek. “Alright up, I need a shower. Are you coming with me or do you need ‘elp into bed?”

At that Percy sighs before trying to turn back towards the table, replying, “I really need to finish–”

“No, you literally fell asleep on the couch, love. What you need is to rest.” Stan says, turning Percy’s head back towards him.

Pouting at him for a second, Percy seems to weigh his options before giving in, “Shower then, i didn't get to take one this morning.” 

“Shower, it is then.”

I realize I haven't promoted this fic on my blog much, but it's kind of my pride and joy, so:

A Bed of Roses (ABOR) is a crossover fusion fic between Harry Potter and Homestuck. Following a catastrophic [S] Cascade, Rose Lalonde finds herself reborn in Britain just in time to join the Hogwarts class of 1991, joining the teen Dirk Strider in learning magic, which was apparently a thing he'd done in her original timeline as well?

On her way to the school, she meets friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, but is shocked when Hermione introduces Rose to her adoptive brother, Dave!

Shenanigans ensue. Teen versions of parents are texted. Strife specibi are exchanged, haunted diaries are written in, and Dark Lords are battled.

It's all a lot of fun, really.

Anyway, please check this fic out if you haven't before! It's by far my longest and favorite piece of published writing I've done, and I've been working on it since July 2020. Readers are either expected to have finished Homestuck or to not give a shit about Homestuck spoilers, lol. However, the fic is also kinda a love letter to the HP fanfic I read when growing up, so you are expected to at least have a pop-cultural understanding of Harry Potter.

Being a Homestuck fan is so exhausting because when reading the comic itself, researching the history of Hussie’s work, or just looking into the production of the failed projects of the “beyond canon” era, it really is just a constant game of “Hussie did WHAT!?”

Like it is absolutely my responsibility as a fan of this media to critically analyze it and acknowledge and unpack all the subtext in it in order to make sure I don’t let the author’s biases inform my worldview, and I disowned Hussie a long fucking time ago, most of us did, but it really just gets scary and exhausting to just keep digging up more stuff.

i've been thinking about the subject of characters with identities or traits that would inherently diversify a work but are also in a sort of constant state of both being canon and non-canon. whether because the author confirmed it only after the source ended, or because its only word of god even if the series was/is still going at the time of the staff member saying so, or because its only shown in some versions of the media, or because its just coding and isnt explicitly said, or because its something the author is alright with it being depicted or not depicted. and theres a big discussion about whether these traits are important to celebrate, to portray even if they dont align with headcanons or even if they dont fit with the story itself.

or even if these traits are "hard to draw". hard to write in. hard to accomodate for. hard to change for. hard to envision. hard to see as Canon.

it ranges from transfem june egbert (doesnt align with many peoples headcanons, was confirmed only after proper homestucks end and has not been shown in extended media despite the og story having strong hints), to wheelchair user c!goodtimeswithscar (author is alright with it being depicted but also alright with it not being depicted, wheelchairs are considered to be hard to draw and hard to adapt to a world like minecraft).

fat terezi (depicted only in pesterquest, fat bodies are considered to be hard to draw and to adapt to certain art styles) to, for the sake of putting an objectively kind of shitty rep here, gay dumbledore (confirmed after the series ended. also jkr is a piece of shit whose writing shouldnt be supported in any form anyways, but this is here to show a low of this behavior).

even in adaptations like with annabeth chase being played by a black actor, even if shes not necesssarily described as black in the original media.

you could argue on and on about whether its more proper or respectful to just go by the original media only. or if its actively disrespectful to just go in favor with whats easier. whats more common. whats more "relatable". to keep making transmasc egbert because june is just a fictional character and transmasc people have been relating to her for ages so why should they have to change? to keep depicting c!scar as either a different form of disabled such as a cane user or using back braces because wheelchairs are hard to draw and its hard to think about adapting minecraft to wheelchair users and besides, the cc doesnt care and its a way to keep that separation so why change the design to be more like him? annabeth wasnt meant to be black, so why bother changing the minds vision of her, its not like shes really canonically black, why not keep depicting her white anyways?

and i guess every time ive been faced with this sort of problem ive always gravitated to just.. depicting those characters like that anyways when i can. make june transfem because fuck it, its interesting and transfem fans relate to her and have been keeping up this headcanon for ages, and its just a nice thing to do. depict terezi as fat anyways because if your style cant handle fat people then thats something you should work on, diversity shouldnt be left out of a style.

depict scar with a wheelchair and oxygen tubes anyways because disability cant just be traded out for whats easier to accomodate for and thinking about disability accomodations is good worldbuilding! wheelchair users deserve to be seen in fantasy too. make annabeth black because little black girls deserve to see themselves in a character that theyd love and admire and want to be like.

people will go on and on about projecting onto the characters they like and making all the headcanons they want, but as soon as one is made canon (in a way that isnt actively disrespectful or genuinely disingenuous to the story) or even just soft canon, people pussyfoot around and stutter and mumble and make multiple reasons about why they just Cant. or, they even just ignore it. dont think about it at all.

but iunno, i think in the case of "would doing this, and thus adding more diversity to my work, make other people happy in the same way im made happy when i see people like me in media?" with the answer being yes then.. just do it. and of course, always be careful that youre not just adding diversity for brownie points, that on some level youre thinking about how you come off and whether youre being respectful or not. but in the end i think making others happy is always a good reason to do something with your creative work
