What do you get when you combine candy-themed racing with an 80s vaporwave aesthetic? Something I call Sugar Rush 1984. The year is in reference to when MC starts school in HPHM and honestly, I like the title. I am planning on adding some of the other students to expand on the roster later on.

Azulon Razzblue

Age: 11

Calm, intelligent and observant, Azulon is a normal happy kid with an interest in poetry. While he’s fine with socializing and making friends, he also enjoys time to himself where he can spend it either working on poems, or doing some stargazing to clear his head.

Age: 11

Theme: Red Velvet

Kart: Velvet Rose

Racing Track: Crystal Beach

Kind, empathetic, friendly and loyal, Redgina is one energetic gal. She understands the value of hard work and in her downtime, she likes to do some baking of her own and gift sweets to all her friends. Her family runs the game’s Kart Bakery.

Some backstory to this project below:

I know another idea I had was regarding Ricardo: as it’s through his Dream Magic that Reina and friends would be having races in candy karts in the Dream World, as it didn’t follow the rules of reality to begin with. Ricardo would eventually become a game developer to create a candy-themed racing game that rivaled Mario Kart, using the Dream World as inspiration.

I know another idea I had was regarding Ricardo: as it’s through his Dream Magic that Reina and friends would be having races in candy karts in the Dream World, as it didn’t follow the rules of reality to begin with. Ricardo would eventually become a game developer to create a candy-themed racing game that rivaled Mario Kart, using the Dream World as inspiration.

What ensued was 6 months of on and off hard work to not only see how far I’ve improved in terms of art, but also my attempts to stick to projects without forgetting about them halfway through. I’m glad to say that this current batch had been fully completed and I look forward to making more in the future. All 12 karts were completed first, followed by the kids.

Talbott was the very first one that popped to mind when I decided to jump back into Sugar Rush. Around that time I also made a post asking for ideas on what his personality would’ve been like if he never lost his parents, and this was why. This is nothing more than a fun AU of candy-themed kids driving around in racing karts made out of sweets in a candy world.

This Talbott is just a normal happy kid, who while he’s fine with socializing and making friends, he also likes time to himself and has a growing interest in poetry. I gave him blue raspberries as his theme since I always had this headcanon that it was his favorite candy flavor.

Reina herself is nearly identical to her 11-year old counterpart, moreso since she doesn’t have a missing older brother to find this time around. The same will apply to the others I’ll add later on. I already got the candy ideas but I’m stuck on who they’d fit the most.

O a lo mejor es mestiza, que también puede ser. Aunque es más probable que sea sangre pura, supongo, porque eso justificaría un poco más que todos crean que Jacob se unió al Señor Tenebroso. Por otro lado, Snape es mestizo, venga, que todo un libro gira en torno a eso… O sus padres podrían haberse divorciado en algún momento después de Jacob, pero antes de ella, y alguno de ellos después podría haberse enrollado con un muggle, y así Jacob sería sangre pura mientras que MC sería mestiza… Acabo de crearme un nuevo headcanon. No me importa si después me encuentro evidencia canónica que lo contradiga: en mi mente Jacob es sangre pura y MC mestiza.

Canon!Merula meets Reina aka AU!MC

The original idea was that Merula would be terrified of Reina's height and build. Threw in the unexpected crush for extra lulz. Reina would much prefer to go the rest of her life without encountering any more Merulas, even if canon Merula at her worst is still far nicer than AU! Merula. She'll show up soon enough.

Both gals are 16 here, and in 6th Year. I'm still experimenting with Reina's Y6 look. Yes, despite being a see-through jacket, it's still thick fabric and feels just like an autumn jacket would.

I've also been experimenting with different brushes in Procreate, which is why the lines look different.

I completely forgot about this doodle so I went ahead and finished it real quick.

Alternate scenario where Merula actually apologized for the Potion Sabotage Incident in their First Year. Long story short, when the cauldron exploded, Reina was injured by one of its shards and had to be hospitalized for around a week.

If there was ever a possibility that these two could have some form of friendly rivalry, it would only happen if Merula apologized this early on and actively made steps to improve herself.

Belated birthday pic of Reina, since she was born in Valentine's Day in 1973, making her 51 this year.

For a bit of info, after Hogwarts she did one more year of studies back at Vytaria to get her business license. She opens up her own bakery in Diagon Alley in 1994, called Crystal Beach Bakery and Cafe, and it becomes a hit. She'd open a second one in London to cater to the folks there, which also proves to be a hit since she specializes in predominantly Dominican style goods.

Fast forward to the present, both businesses are still running very well, and one of her daughters works with her.

Context: Set in Year 1 when Merula is bullying Ben in the Clocktower Courtyard. Reina stands up to her without hesitation. Merula was hoping to bait Reina into pulling out her wand and fighting her in the hopes of getting her in trouble, so she resorts to insulting Reina's country and home community.

Can you share with us some more details about the Alternate Talbott AU? (kinda like a sneak peek of sorts hehehe)

I've scrapped the older drafts since I wasn't happy with them anymore. The core ideas remain, so he'll still be the friendly and social guy on the outside, but deeply stuck in the anger stage of grief on the inside, now with a dose of wanting revenge for the deaths of his parents.

A few changes include:

He wants to hone his dueling skills as much as possible, so he trains often with Diego and Prof. Flitwick.

Relies on Wide Eye potions most days to cut back on sleep and focus more on training. It's the reason for the visible bags under his eyes. When others ask him about it, he just says it's from constant late-night studying.

On the times his exhaustion catches up to him, he needs Dreamless Sleep Potions or otherwise he'll have nightmares about the deaths of his parents.

He's so deadset on becoming an Auror that he has no interest in dating whatsoever. He does find Reina cute and is aware of her crush on him, so he lets her down easily.

For the time being, the setting starts in their 3rd Year, which is when he meets Reina for the first time.

Because of Merula's behavior and other spoiler reasons, he's fully convinced she's a genuine danger and following in her parents' footsteps. Only sees her as a Death Eater in the making.

He has every intention of dueling her to knock down her massive ego a few pegs.

Aside from Merula, he targets any other student expressing Pureblood supremacist beliefs regardless of what House they're in. He has yet to be caught.

After being rescued from the Buried Vault, Ricardo headed with the group back to the school. Wanting to take responsibility for his own involvement with R, he wanted to deal with the Vaults on his own and give Reina and her friends a break. He feels that it should've never been their burden to begin with.

The following year, Reina and friends voted to make him the leader of their new group known as the Anti-R Coven (aka The A.R.C.), which he gladly accepted. He wanted to give the group full transparency as a sign they could trust him, so then he went and told them this:

Rowan: "I..." Reina: "Wait WHAT?!!" Ben: "You're messing with us! Right?!"

Ben and Reina know very well what the implications of those words mean. Going by a very old headcanon I had that never got around to presenting, the two of them enjoy reading superhero comics together, so they have a good understanding of multiverse stuff.

Ricardo: "A lot of the other universes are nearly identical while others are vastly different. There are some where either Reina and I never went to Hogwarts or simply never existed. It'd be another different pair of siblings living out their own adventures with the vaults."

How she ruined Penny's friendship with Reina

TW: Bullying, depictions of injuries

From her years of constantly following and spying on Reina, Merula picked up on things that she eventually decided to weaponize against her. She did this by feeding this info to Emily Tyler, who'd spin those details into something nastier, resulting in some ugly rumors that destroyed Reina's reputation for a while. This was just the start.

Merula would justify all of this as the means to earn Rakepick's approval and prove that Reina was lying about the older woman all along. She didn't care what it took or who she had to hurt to get what she wanted. It's why she'd eventually go after some of Reina's friends as well.

There were some other students working with Merula for one reason or another, ranging from blackmail to being just as bad as she is. She wasn't exactly the only horrible kid at the school during that time, just the most well-known. It's why she was able to inflict all that harm that year. The punishments and detentions dished out by the teachers weren't enough to stop her, since the only opinion that mattered to her was Rakepick's.

To Reina

Merula often had Reina's things vandalized, such as her Quidditch robes. She even tried to send tampered packages that Reina thankfully never opened. Merula eventually got to the point she made attempts on Reina's life twice, a line that even Emily would never cross. The first attempt was when she slipped some chicken into her food knowing fully well that Reina had a serious poultry allergy. This failed thanks to her Familiar Ginger warning her in time.

She was the reason Reina was away from the school for 50 days. She tried to kill her by breaking her crystal wand after pouring some Erumpent Potion on it. Since those wands are connected to the user's soul, breaking them would cause them to fall into a coma until the wand finished repairing itself.

Since this act was very intentional, it triggered a curse she'd try to ignore for as long as she could. Merula thought she basically got away with attempted murder since no one caught her, but Reina's family already knew she did it as soon as they were informed of what happened. They chose not to press charges or make it public since Merula was condemned by this point.

To the others

With Reina out of the way during this time, Merula decided to try and get her fellow apprentices out of the way so that Rakepick would only pay attention to her. Rowan, Ben, Barnaby and Talbott weren't apprentices, but she viewed them as threats regardless. She'd spend the following week going after each of them, and she only backed down when Rakepick stepped in and put her foot down. The group got healed in a timely manner thanks to Chiara's Healing Magic.

Rowan

As she was the one that led the efforts that cleared Reina's name, Merula had her ambushed when she was walking back from the library to the Great Hall for dinner. Her hair was cut short and her glasses were broken. Rowan magically tagged her attackers with help from her Paper Magic to identify them later on.

Ben

Like Rowan, he got ambushed while making his way back to the Gryffindor Common Room. He was left with several bruises and a broken left arm. He'd refuse to leave the Hospital Wing until after the matter had been dealt with.

Barnaby

"Hey Ismelda...Has anyone ever told you that you're such an amazing friend?"

She targeted him after overhearing him talking about how Rakepick had offered him the chance to be one of her apprentices after praising his strength. Ismelda soon found him showing clear signs of being poisoned, and helped walk him to the Hospital Wing. The two caught on right away this wasn't a coincidence, and reported their suspicions to Snape.

Talbott

"For years all you've done is brag about being the strongest witch at Hogwarts. The only thing you've ever been good at is being a bloody migraine!"

She deliberately ruined his privacy by exposing that he's dating Reina, and then threatened to destroy his mother's necklace, as well as report to the Ministry that he's an Unregistered Animagus. In the ensuing duel, he swiftly defeated her thanks to a combination of quick thinking and his Wind Magic.

Penny

Had it not been for her defeat against Talbott, Merula would've gone after Penny as well since she was also a fellow apprentice. She had intended to sabotage one of Penny's potions so that she'd be too injured to accompany them to the next vault.

Chiara

"I've been getting the feeling that I'm being followed, professor."

As her Healing Magic helped speed up the healing process for the others' injuries, Chiara had become Merula's next target and began to spy on her. She didn't get far thanks to Snape keeping her under heavy watch due to her past actions. At this time, Chiara had been meeting up with Snape to acquire her doses of Wolfsbane Potions. Had Merula found this out, she would've reported Chiara to the Werewolf Capture Unit.

Bill

"Why in the world did you ever think this was ever a good idea?"

She tried to get him out of the way by cursing some of his school books. The plan failed, as by then he had been informed by Rowan of what Merula had been up to thanks to the Paper Tag spell, leading to the Slytherin girl getting caught.

Charlie

She had planned on tampering with a Bludger to injure him in the next Quidditch match, but was caught by Rakepick herself.

"Miss Snyde, you and I need to have a serious talk. This abhorrent behavior of yours has gone on long enough!"

Behold! Talbott and Reina's adorable little babies, with slight upgrades to their designs. From left to right, oldest to youngest: Corvo, Ava, Raven and Altair. They're 2-3 years old here.

The munchkins were born in Hogsmeade during the Battle of Hogwarts (long story). They're an energetic bunch of happy and healthy kiddos. All of them inherited Reina's Empathic Sense and Talbott's love of bird puns. The colorful pins they're wearing is a protective charm known as an Aegis.

In addition to keeping them safe from danger and letting the parents know where they're at, the Aegis also keeps their developing Magic under control, preventing potential outbursts when out in public. Individual profiles will be below.

Corvo Winger

The oldest of the four. Per Caelestis tradition, he fused with their original 5th sibling in the womb, resulting in his heterochromia and skin tone. The calmest and most levelheaded of his siblings, he’s often seen as the problem-solver. Corvo is prone to sleeping a lot due to being Narcoleptic. He enjoys creating music and his favorite color is green.

Ava Winger

The second oldest of the four. The most headstrong and courageous of her siblings, Ava has no problem fighting back against anyone she feels has wronged her and her family, be it other kids and even adults. She’s also the most honest and proud of it. She enjoys sports and her favorite color is red.

Raven Winger

The second youngest of the four. The quietest and most independent of her siblings, Raven often prefers to do things her way. Raven is on the Autism Spectrum, and therefore avoids making eye contact with most people, and is sensitive to loud noises. Her Familiar Archimedes takes the form of an owl plush that has a satin texture. She enjoys puzzles, history, and baking and her favorite color is blue.

Altair Winger

The youngest of the four. The most empathic and sensitive of his siblings, Altair is prone to crying a lot whether he’s sad or happy. Altair isn’t fond of confrontation and prefers if things could be resolved as peacefully as possible. He will fight back if he truly needs to. He enjoys creating art, especially with ink, and his favorite color is yellow.

1980s Golden Trio as First Years showing off some fancy new magic, well Rowan and Ben anyway. Reina’s had hers since she was a toddler. Rowan has Paper Magic, Ben has Lightning Magic, and Reina’s is Rose Magic.

I’ll be using some GIFs as visual examples below, so trigger warning mostly minor violence and mild flashing lights.

Rowan gained Paper Magic thanks to her love of books and studious nature. She can control all existing paper, as well as summon them from thin air and shape them into whatever she wants. In time, she's able to alter the properties of paper by making them as soft or as durable as she wants them to be, allowing for things such as shields and even armor. While she at first used it for defensive purposes, she made the switch to offensive attack during the events of Year 5. She settles into a balance of both.

Ben gained Lightning Magic thanks to his desire to be several steps ahead of Merula and avoid her at all times. This gave him the additional ability of Super Speed. The power often spooked him at first but in time it became second nature to him. Early on he’d use his magic to quickly stun or distract opponents in duels. He goes all out during his reckless phase as New!Ben, but in time settles into a balance of attack and defense.

This magic is contract-based. It comes with a few rules that need to be followed.

You can’t revive the dead. The laws of life and death are absolute.

You can’t create money or anything that would devastate the economy. No use in trying.

Never use your magic with malicious intent. It will retaliate and turn against you.

Reina got permission from her dad to gift Rowan and Ben their own Infinitus (spellbooks) as early Christmas gifts. Currently in the process of designing them!

Experimenting with a new chibi style and wanted to give it a go with these two. Ricardo's guns took me longer than I'd like to admit but I think they're passable despite how goofy they look. The bullets are fueled by magic so they never run out. I'll eventually have a more completed design for them.

I mentioned in a prior post that I'm giving Reina a soft reboot so there'll be changes. You can see that she has two skin tones from the neck down, and her eyes are partially gold along the bottom. Her eyebrows will no longer be a separate color and while not seen, she'll have the same moles on her face as her great-great-grandpa Ominis.
