What do you get when you combine candy-themed racing with an 80s vaporwave aesthetic? Something I call Sugar Rush 1984. The year is in reference to when MC starts school in HPHM and honestly, I like the title. I am planning on adding some of the other students to expand on the roster later on.
Azulon Razzblue
Age: 11
Theme: Blue Raspberry candy
Kart: Blue Storm
Racing Track: Blue Razzlantic Ocean
Calm, intelligent and observant, Azulon is a normal happy kid with an interest in poetry. While he’s fine with socializing and making friends, he also enjoys time to himself where he can spend it either working on poems, or doing some stargazing to clear his head.
Redgina Velvetine
Age: 11
Theme: Red Velvet
Kart: Velvet Rose
Racing Track: Crystal Beach
Kind, empathetic, friendly and loyal, Redgina is one energetic gal. She understands the value of hard work and in her downtime, she likes to do some baking of her own and gift sweets to all her friends. Her family runs the game’s Kart Bakery.
If your MC was in Sugar Rush, what would their candy theme(s) be?
Some backstory to this project below:
I know another idea I had was regarding Ricardo: as it’s through his Dream Magic that Reina and friends would be having races in candy karts in the Dream World, as it didn’t follow the rules of reality to begin with. Ricardo would eventually become a game developer to create a candy-themed racing game that rivaled Mario Kart, using the Dream World as inspiration.

What ensued was 6 months of on and off hard work to not only see how far I’ve improved in terms of art, but also my attempts to stick to projects without forgetting about them halfway through. I’m glad to say that this current batch had been fully completed and I look forward to making more in the future. All 12 karts were completed first, followed by the kids.
Talbott was the very first one that popped to mind when I decided to jump back into Sugar Rush. Around that time I also made a post asking for ideas on what his personality would’ve been like if he never lost his parents, and this was why. This is nothing more than a fun AU of candy-themed kids driving around in racing karts made out of sweets in a candy world.
This Talbott is just a normal happy kid, who while he’s fine with socializing and making friends, he also likes time to himself and has a growing interest in poetry. I gave him blue raspberries as his theme since I always had this headcanon that it was his favorite candy flavor.
Reina herself is nearly identical to her 11-year old counterpart, moreso since she doesn’t have a missing older brother to find this time around. The same will apply to the others I’ll add later on. I already got the candy ideas but I’m stuck on who they’d fit the most.

I forgot to include some extras in my previous post [here] and didn’t want to delete it, so I decided to just make a separate one for these two. Wanted to include them together, anyway. As explained in the linked post, I gave this AU the name of Sugar Rush 1984 as a tie into HPHM.
One thing I forgot to add was that it’s not necessarily exclusive to a Sugar Rush AU, since the overall idea is meant to be just a candy-themed racing game separate with no connection to said AU. I promise this will make more sense later on LOL
Basically, in-story it’s an idea Ricardo has had for a few years. As his powers allowed him access to the Dream World, he and others could drive around in candy cars in this place, while their real selves were peacefully sleeping in the real world. Talbott and Reina were among the first ones to try this out, choosing their names above for fun. Their karts were modeled after their favorite sweets. Rowan, Ben and a few others would eventually join them, coming up with names and candy themes of their own.
Ricardo would go into game development after the R business had been dealt with, using his inspirations from the Dream World to create his game, which he called Candy Hollow.
Tldr: Sugar Rush 1984 is the name of this AU where everyone’s a character in the roster, and Candy Hollow is the name of the candy-themed racing game Ricardo would eventually make. The batch of racers after these two are strictly from my Sugar Rush AU, separate from this one.

The Roster
(Changes will be made as more racers get added later on)
Sugar Rush 1984 aka Sugar Rush 2 (2014)
A sequel game to Sugar Rush (2010), set in 1984 and with the strong 80s aesthetic to match.
Azulon Razzblue
Redgina Velvetine
Sugar Rush (2010)
The original game, which was released in 2010 in this setting rather than 1997. Turbo hacked the game and his reign had been going on for 2 years. In this version, 6 new racers would join the roster after a player had managed to beat Grand Prix mode, coincidentally on the same day that Ralph himself would end up crash-landing there.
Shakelynn Maltswirl
Fruitina Sweetblossom
Flancheska Sugarglaze
Froya Nougatina
Gummli Bearington
Neo Politan
Fudgianna Crumblequake
Citronello Sourlime
Momochi “Momo” Mangotoya
Minty Sakura
