Free to leave the Dursleys behind and start a new life as an independent wizard (if staying at Ron´s until he gets that apartment in London can be called independence, anyway), he does what any young man in possession of a good fortune would: he third-wheels and goes to a museum.

It´s not really a bad plan. The Malfoys had announced they had made a big donation to the newly opened "Myths and Prophecies: Lord Voldemort´s secret collection":

Ron snorts, not even attempting to disguise the sound.

“You’re joking, right?” he asks, leaning forward to glare up at the other boy, “Fuck off, Riddle. Harry doesn’t need an escort from you.”

Harry watches Riddle’s face carefully. His expression sours, but only for a moment before it’s smooth again. He smiles, and if Harry didn't know better, he might call it charming.

Well. Okay. He really does know better.

But it’s still charming.

Unfortunately, as he does his best to learn, he is unable to stay out of Riddle's sight for long, and he is drawn once more into the conflict between light and dark.

This time, however, the lines are blurred, and nothing is as simple as he's been led to believe.

Voldemort is caught in a lie, and Harry decides to punish him.

“It’s true, you know,” Luna says airily as she stirs her third spoonful of honey into her tea.

“Sorry.” Harry looks up from the cover of the Quibbler that he’s been eyeing. Surprising absolutely no one, their most recent cover story is about Voldemort’s new business. “What’s true?”

“That Voldemort runs a coffee shop in London,” Luna tells him. She takes a sip of her tea and hums happily at the taste. “I saw him there myself.”

“I—” Harry feels lightheaded. “Tom, we were seven.”

“No,” Harry says. Surer, then, “No. I didn’t.”

Harry and Tom are childhood friends. When they were seven, Tom proudly announced that he would marry Harry when they were older.Now, ten years later and in N.E.W.T. year, Tom plans on making that promise a reality.

“There’s something about you.”

Their hands touch.

“I know what you mean.” A breathless moment. Their fingers fold together. “It’s like I’ve known you forever. Since even before we met.”

“Yes.” The other boy’s hold on him grows tighter. Painful. He doesn’t say anything. “Exactly.”

“Maybe we were made for each other.”

He waits for the other boy to laugh. He doesn’t.

“Maybe we were.”

Maybe he should say something.

Hands up, it’s a hold up

“You know, you’re pretty morally ambiguous for a hero,” Harry says as he watches Tom set one of the would-be robbers on fire. He’d protest or maybe put the fire out himself, but the man was about to stab him, so he thinks he’s got the higher ground here.

Tom takes a step back to observe his handiwork, looking far too smug for Harry’s peace of mind.

“Oddly enough, you’re not the first person to say that to me.”

“Wow. Shocker.”

As you are probably aware of October 31st (Hallowen, Samhein, you decide) is around the corner. So, in order to celebrate the day lord Voldemort officially ruined Harry Potter´s life, made him an accidental horcrux and forever cursed him with the title of the Boy Who Lived, I decided to make a little rec. Here you will find some of the creepiest/darkest completed fics/oneshots I love about this paring, in order get you in a good spooky Halloween mood. Every fic here is finished except two explicitly marked ones. Enjoy :)

October 24th:

Aconitum

Merope Gaunt lived ten years longer, and everything changed. In which Harry Potter is a successful young Auror, trying to keep a crumbling relationship with his wife afloat. He and Ginny argue almost constantly, as they discover that their values do not entirely match up. Enter Tom Riddle: handsome owner of a flower shop on Knockturn Alley, who lends a willing ear to Harry’s woes. This is not as light and fluffy as it sounds. The Ministry is rife with corruption, the Muggleborn Registration is at peak popularity, and Lucius Malfoy is Minister for Magic. Harry is determined to get to the bottom of it- something has gone wrong here. Otherwise known as the flowershop AU that spiraled.

In the dead of winter, the Dark Lord pays a visit to the precious treasure he has kept under lock and key in a gilded cage.

Fairytale AU. Loosely inspired by Beauty and the Beast.

Some said he was once a man, cursed, and some that he sold his soul to demons and became one in turn. Others said that such evil as he could never have been human. That he was instead a nightmare, left lingering upon the earth a very long time ago. Harry just knew it wasn’t safe to walk near the Riddle House after dark.

October 28th:

Voice in the walls

Something… strange happens after Harry stabs Tom Riddle’s diary in the Chamber of Secrets. A voice whispers to him in the halls of Hogwarts, one only he can hear. He convinces himself it’s a delusion, a hallucination, but as the years roll by it is simply there. Until, of course, Harry is forced to face the owner of that voice.

Counting Bodies Like Sheep

It’s a crazy world torn straight out of a horror movie - the undead roam the earth and destroy everything in their wake. When Harry Potter narrowly escapes a horrible death he finds himself a companion in Tom Riddle - a mysterious, heartless man who doesn’t hesitate to take lives to save his own. Savage as the man is, Harry still finds himself enthralled… He quickly starts developing strange needs and feelings.

When they decide to finally find a safe place to settle down for a while they encounter dangerous enemies on their path. Tom’s past demons come back around to haunt the both of them and it becomes very clear that even after the years they spent together, Harry really doesn’t know Tom at all.

Harrie learns the word mother at school, her aunt sneers at the word. “She’s dead, you don’t have a mother.”

Even today, faeries manage to lure unwitting humans into their circles. And the Fey King is perhaps the worst of them all.

Dreams and darkness collide

Major AU! SLASH LV/HP: Though he was raised without the expectation of saving the world, Harry still possesses a savior complex. Only, it’s so dark and twistedly immoral, he created an alter ego to practice vigilantism. His second identity makes a name for himself and immediately ensnares Minister Riddle’s complete and obsessive attention. A game of cat and mouse begins and morals are questioned.

The night film

Harry has the perfect idea for his final film project. What better place to film a horror than the notoriously haunted Riddle Manor? Non-magic AU.

BYR: Some fics contain questionable and just wtf material. I try to mark down warnings as best as I can, but for longer stories, I have forgotten exact details. Please heed whatever warnings I did remember and if you have further questions about specific stories, please feel free to ask. Especially since some stories often have circumstances surrounding a certain material that could use more clarification than a warning phrase.

The Glass Serpent and the Dark Horse by KaedeRavensdale

In which Tom Riddle Senior never could fully put Merope’s claims of being pregnant out of his mind and set out to bring his child home, unwittingly changing the fate of both the Wizarding and Muggle worlds and laying waste to the machinations of a certain scheming old man.

Some concepts brought up in the last parts are kind of weird because they make references to fics the author has yet to write, however.)

Peeves, though he was nasty about everything else--ickle firsties and orphan girls--got it immediately. For all six years of Harry's Hogwarts tenure, he dropped water balloons on the heads of anyone who misgendered her.

Professor Binns never quite figured it out, but he didn't know any student's name. Nearly Headless Nick gallantly and somewhat awkwardly called her lady and tried to hold open doors for her, despite the fact that he couldn't open them.

Snape called Harry "Mr. Potter" for all seven years that he was in Harry's life. Around year three, Ron stopped counting the detentions he got for his increasingly sarcastic responses to this.

Horcruxes in my Head

Harry hears voices in his head, but he's not crazy, honestly. It's the voices who are crazy!

Scales of Change

A foray through Harry’s life as it could have been, if only he was a little more cynical and exercised that thing between his ears. Lo and behold, a small snake is enough of a catalyst.

Don't Forget the Dog

When Dumbledore's plans for the Dursleys go awry, he is forced to give young Harry to Kingsley Shacklebolt to raise. Little did he know how this change would mess up everything.

Let’s tell a story where Petunia Dursley found a baby boy on her doorstep and hated his eyes—she hated them. She took him in and fed him and changed him and got him his shots, and she hated his eyes up until the day she looked at the boy and saw her nephew, not her sister’s shadow. When Harry was two and Vernon Dursley bought Dudley a toy car and Harry a fast food meal with a toy with parts he could choke on Petunia packed her things and got a divorce.

If He Be Worthy WIP

Harry summons The Sword of Gryffindor in the Chamber of Secrets, pulls it from the Sorting Hat, and uses it to slay a Basilisk in defense of Hogwarts without realizing that once upon a time The Sword of Gryffindor had another name... Excalibur.

Iron and Bones WIP

The Chamber of Secrets was originally intended to be a ritual room. So when Harry enters the Chamber bleeding while the diary Horcrux is conducting a ritual to gain a body and unknowingly helps the ritual along, a debt is incurred. And every good wizard knows that a life debt must be repaid at all costs.

Harry Potter and the Dukes New Clothes WIP

On his first trip to the Wizarding World Harry turns left instead of right. Its amazing how much one little thing can change the world.

Antithesis WIP

After the disaster at the Department of Mysteries, Harry just wants to be left alone. But between dealing with the Dursleys and struggling with his own depression, the Ministry soon comes knocking with a request to give his testimony. Harry’s all for condemning his enemies for the rest of eternity, right up until he steps into the courtroom and realizes he’s more tired than angry and vengeance has never been his thing anyway, especially when he spots even arrogant Draco Malfoy sitting in the stands, grey-faced and blank and staring at his father as if the man would disappear if he so much as blinks. Besides, the world’s going to hell, and logically speaking, less people wanting to stab him in the back just makes his life easier in the long run. Of course, little does Harry know, with that one decision, everything changes.

Live life like you stole it Mature

Things go differently, down in the Chamber. Instead of pouring herself into the diary, Ginny opened her heart to it, her heart and her mind, and that means a different path for Tom Riddle to take. No message saying Her skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever; instead Tom takes Ginny down to the Chamber one empty afternoon and waits for the last of her to die. When it is all over Tom flicks long red hair over her shoulders, picks up Ginny’s wand (not a perfect match, but better than nothing, better than fifty years without a wand) and leaves the Chamber. Saunters out of Myrtle’s bathroom looking like nothing more than a little eleven year old girl.

Erosmancy Mature

Blaise was immune to whatever it was people usually felt around his mother, for which he was profoundly grateful, since no one needed an Oedipal complex on quite that spectacular a scale, but that didn’t mean he didn’t have a thorough respect for her gift.

No Solace In Solitude Mature

George is a hot mess. Harry’s just a mess—which apparently qualifies him to help George sort his life out, according to their family.

A Match of Wits Explicit

How do you stay angry with a man who can’t remember what you can’t forget? When Harry finds Snape unable to recall any of the second wizarding war, he does his best to help restore the man’s memories of his past, and ease him back into wizarding society. A friendship with further potential is born along the way, a less-angry Snape is welcomed into the new peaceful post-war world, and Harry proves that cunning and intelligence aren’t solely traits of the Slytherins. NOTE: this is from the Snarry Big Bang fest.

A Summer Fling, and Something More Explicit

Hattie Potter is consummately professional on the job, even if her bastard ex-husband is a co-worker. The author also makes these cute oneshot fics where the background of characters are looked into and they're totally worth a read. You're missing out by not reading this; I'm serious. Tom's more of a partner in crime than anything else.
