#little house #farmer boy goes west #i'm about halfway through and i'm fairly impressed #she seems to be making a legitimate effort to match some of the stylistic quirks of the original #there are pieces that are anachronistic or too modern #or elements that fit better into the laura books than the almanzo one #(mrs. wilder of farmer boy would not give an explanation of the history of jenny lind trunks even though caroline ingalls would) #there is a lot of focus on food (good) #perhaps a bit too much focus on horses (he wouldn't spend *all* his time thinking about starlight) #the throughline of 'what does he want to be' is stupid when we know he wants to be a farmer #the parents feel less old-fashioned than they did in the original #the sibling dynamics are pretty good (especially with alice) #there are some things that are fun in light of the later books but aren't obnoxious wink wink style foreshadowing #the author's note makes it clear that she did try to do her research and stick to real history and to laura's heavily altered timeline #and i can totally forgive her for a really shoehorned in conversation #because when you find out that the future founder of sears was in spring valley at the same time as almanzo #you *have* to stick that in no matter how clunky it is

as flawed as the locations in worldborne are, the rotten vale is genuinely fantastic especially in terms of concept

i love the relationship between the coral highlands and the rotten vale since its much like how the actual ocean is structured!! the deeper you go, the more disgusting looking critters there are, all living off of those who swim down too far or die. that’s the abridged version anyways. one of the most unique area concepts i’ve seen in any game i’ve played at least, plus the place being made up of various dalamadur remains is an awesome touch (the bigger mons especially elder dragons are inherently interesting from an ecosystem standpoint and details like this are ones i enjoy).

What I Read This Week: March 31st

Another installment of what I read this week! Also, if anyone knows the author of one of these on tumblr and wants to let me know please do! I try to tag when I do know but otherwise I just go off the AO3 name.

Ocean Love Prevails by notchosen- Shayne/Spencer - Shayncer - An AU where Spencer is a merman who saves Shayne's life. 4 chapters as of this writing. It is nicely detailed and has an interesting plot where you can feel the shift of time realistically and there are other bonds and things that pop up in the story.

Taste Of The Inferno by @hecoxthirst and @punk-gremlin Ian/Anthony -ianthony- spicy! At the time of writing there are 5 chapters and I have only read the first, but it is worth a read as Anthony is an incubus that Ian summons for companionship and it results in some real hot smut!

What Happens on the Games Stage, Stays on the Games Stage (I Hope) by @gay-nonderogatory - Shayne/Trevor - Shrevor- Spicy! Basically Shayne and Trevor break the couch in the games studio in the smuttiest way possible!

What Happens on the Games Stage, Happens on the Pit Stage by @gay-nonderogatory - Spencer/Tommy - Spommy - Spicy! A follow up to the Shrevor fic and in the same universe wherein Spencer and Tommy execute revenge on Shayne by fucking in his reddit reading chair. Hot!!

bury my heart underneath these trees by KALLIOPH - Ian/Anthony - ianthony - Spicy/Dark themes - SO set in the funeral roast au of sorts except Ian and Anthony are both pastors/Fathers and this is SO, SO BEAUTIFUL. It is so detailed and the perfect mix of creepy and sensual. The freaking sex scene is so intimate and hot. I HAVE EXACTLY ZERO WORDS. PLEASE read this.

Good Boy by KALLIOPH - Ian/Anthony - ianthony - Spicy- LISTEN. It explores the dynamics of puppy!Anthony as inspired by the S&B video universe and touches on dom/sub vibes between the boys and also deals with Anthony's perception of himself and his mindset. BRILLIANTLY DONE. Another must read!

like she wants to try me on by @baflegacy Amanda/Angela - Amangela - Spicy! - This is also set around the S&B video, but is a part of standing amangela universe. It is insanely hot and also intimate and has some soft vibes as well. Ridiculously sexy.

The Weimaraner by SilentHarmony - Ian/Anthony - ianthony - this is mainly just the set up for a fic but I am hoping it gets updated because I am really intrigued by the beginnings of how Ian and Anthony find themselves in a new dynamic.

It all began when I met you by @wiggog-y-hecox - Spencer/Tommy - Spommy - A Spommy soulmate AU written for the Smoshblr Valentines Exchange! The word fleshed out here is so interesting as it is an AU where Tommy is an event planner and hasn't found his soulmate yet. He has a tight circle of friends and this fic has humor and lightness that is very fun to read with a happy ending!
