Apparently there’s this article by The Times and E/riel’s are saying that Gwynriel and Elucien are dead and Elain + Azriel is happening?? I don’t know all that’s about. But unless it comes from SJM’s own mouth/the actual book, then I’m not going to believe it. Even if it said that Gwynriel is confirmed. I’m waiting until Azriel’s book comes out for confirmation. I feel like once the title of his book is revealed then it will give a pretty good idea as to who he ends up with/who will have the other pov like Cassian in SF.

I feel like E/riel’s are grasping at straws because they know Az’s book is next considering how much he was in SF & HOFAS, was in two bonus chapters, and HOFAS shared a lot about Ramiel/Illyrians, which will probably be the plot of his book. (I’ve seen some try to say that Elain is tied to the Illyrian plot?) And SJM said in a video that one book will be a couple getting together, and if Azriel is getting his own book and Elain is too (which has been confirmed), then the math isn’t mathing…🤷‍♀️ I like Elain, but I don’t see her getting two books. It doesn’t make sense. I think Nesta will feature heavily in Az’s book since she’s his friend, she’s besties with Gwyn, and if the plot is about Illyria then it makes sense for the Valkyries to be heavily involved. I think it ties in with the Prison/Dusk Court.

Also, the ending of that bonus chapter where Bryce could’ve worn that Azriel’s shadows danced to the sound of his humming…interesting that it parallels to something very similar (:

I know about the article, I have read it, but I'm not sure how "Fans speculate that Azriel and Elain may be next" amounte to "Elain and Azriel are next". I'm sure the shippers will push forward to offer a plethora of evidence why and how they are next, how it's confirmed and has been for a while, etc. After one fiasco too many (Bread and Roses, looking at you), I'm here at my little corner sipping my cappuccino and waiting for an official confirmation because really, only it will end this ship war.

Even if I were not confident about my ships (which I am, that's not the point), from the latest material I am pretty darn sure Azriel book is coming next. There's a very good reason why a certain section of this fandom adamantly argues that Elain is next and not Azriel, and that is because if Az is the next protagonist and it's one couple per book, the mathing isn't mathing. I never bought into the Multipov Last Book theory, but this being Sarah Janet, Pantser Extraordinaire, there's always a chance that everyone is wrong.

Ah yes, the Illyrian Plot/Ramiel. Famously irrelevant. Not happening at all. Killed by Sarah in ACOSF with a swift sentence. For which Gwynriels were dragged for pointing out it was not yet over. Are they really trying to tie Elain to it after claiming all of this? Oh how the tables turneth. It's honestly amusing as all hell LMAO

I like Elain too (just look at my url), but if there's anyone getting two books at this point in time, it's Nesta. About the Prison, you should check out @bookofmirth theory on it! She has some great ideas what could be in store for it :)

There's also parallels to the HoSaB Quinlar extra and a certain other bonus hahaha

All in all, here comes Azriel! (I'm now a teeny bit more interested in him LMAO)

A lot of my funny life stories seem to come from working out at LA Fitness and the other day was no exception. The locker rooms have nice tables updated and sleek, but the other day I found no room to sit down on the table to change anything. One man had littered his racket ball supplies and clothing from one end of the table to the other. That’s right one man. I could not help myself. I looked at him and said, “Let me guess, you were an only child and you’re single right now,” His eyes widened and he said, “How could you possible know that?” I said it’s what I do for a living. And I moved on to another section of the locker room. For today, let’s be respectful of others - kind, generous, giving and thoughtful. There is plenty of room for all of us “at the table” and it’s ok to share and be respectful of others. Regardless of others actions or reactions, I will remain benevolent, loving and kind.

Shakespearean Tag Game

@atomic-insomnia tagged me with this a long while ago, and I put it off because I don’t have a current WIP. However, I decided it might be fun to put in part of the Vampire Hunter D fanfic I wrote a couple years ago for @vampires-and-dhampirs‘s VHDweek event, particularly since the person who tagged me was the one whose fanfic discussion recently reminded me that I had this kicking around!

I tag @converginglives @aldersprig @caelum-inferus @hexmeridian @merigreenleaf to put a chunk of their writing (WIP or otherwise) through the English to Shakespearean Translator

So without further ado, an even more exaggerated take on Kikuchi’s Frontier:

Lidia ent'r'd the tav'rn, pe'ring into the dimly did light cubiculo, and hath felt h'r heart sinketh as the lady did fail to findeth the p'rson the lady did seek. T wast a bloweth aft'r all h'r planning, begging useth of valuable communication equipment, trying to figure out how to receiveth a message to a hunteth'r who is't wast not only grade a, but a near-myth, if 't be true the people the lady spake with w're c'rrect. T hadst been a lasteth, desp'rate desire, and apparently hadst did fail.

The lady wast on the v'rge of turning to leaveth, embarrass'd by the curious stares the lady wast attracting by ling'ring near the doth'rway, and hadst tuck'd h'r shawl backeth und'r h'r defensively did cross arms, at which hour the lady spott'd a c'rn'r dark'r than the oth'rs. A single candle dimly did light a bawbling table in a backeth c'rn'r with just one occupant. The lady hesitat'd. This wast the only p'rson in the cubiculo the lady didn’t knoweth, so t hadst to beest that gent, but living in this isolat'd village, the lady hadst rarely hath met a strang'r and suddenly hath felt dainty. How didst the lady coequal beginneth this conversation?

H'r n'rves w'ren’t holp at which hour the indistinct dark figure shifted, as if 't be true humour h'r stareth, lifting his gazeth from the palm-siz'd booketh on the table. The brim of his black coxcomb did lift, revealing an unnaturally whey-face chin, a firmly setteth that from which we speak, an arcing cheekbone, and finally, a single dark eye pe'ring at h'r 'round the edge of his coxcomb. His glance madeth h'r trembleth with some unknown sensation, halfway between feareth and attraction. Th're wast nay turning backeth anon. The lady did clutch the fringe of h'r shawl and f'rc'd h'r leaden feet to starteth towards that gent.

The lady madeth t all the way to the table bef're freezing up again, tongue and fing'rs stiff as boards. The g'rgeous young sir across from h'r hadst did sweep the booketh into some eyeless pocket in his coat and anon did stare up at h'r, meeting h'r gazeth and silence in equal measureth f'r a did beat. The air 'round that gent hath seemed somehow dens'r, as if 't be true th're wast a pow'r and tension did create in the w'rld by his simple existence. “would thee liketh a seat?” that gent hath said, and despite his st'rn expression, the lady sens'd a slight traceth of amusement in his tone. The oppressive weight hath seemed to draweth backeth off Lidia’s chest.

“thank thee,” the lady croaked, grateful f'r an colours to breaketh the intent stareth as the lady did turn to findeth an unus'd stool and drageth t noisily to the table. The lady hath felt clumsy and contrary und'r his quiet gazeth, and fidget'd with the edge of h'r sleeve at which hour the lady did realize the lady couldn’t quiet bringeth h'rself to meeteth t. “i guesseth thee did get mine own message. ”

“m're 'r less. Thee wanteth to hire a hunteth'r?” his voice wast merit, yet th're wast nay harshness to t.

“not f'r myself. The town hast hir'd three already, all unsuccessful. ”

“so i’d hath heard. And thee bethink i can doth better?”

Lidia did stare at that gent, hoyday making h'r f'rget h'r shyness. “how didst thee knoweth? the lasteth wast only hath killed days ago. ”

Lidia satteth up straight, did look that gent in the eye, and hath said, “i w'rk in a m'rgue, mr. D. I seeth death all the timeth, and murd'r m're frequently than i’d liketh. I’ve seen fronti'rsmen maul'd by a packeth of noble-br'd beasts who is't belike hadst a kind'r death than the hunteth'rs we’ve hath sent so far. ”

“my apologies, misseth graczyk. I shouldn’t has't und'restimat'd thee; aft'r all, thee did manage to track me down. ”

Slightly mollified, Lidia did nod an acceptance of his apology and hath tried to turneth backeth to the subject at handeth. “then thou art int'rest'd in taking the job?”

“i’ll consid'r t, aft'r i has't a chance to heareth m're details. I’m head'd west, this wast a div'rsion from mine own intend'd path. I assume yond thee realizeth what payment wouldst beest required? i won’t w'rk f'r free. ”

“and we wouldn’t asketh thee to. We wouldst payeth thee the same rateth as the hunteth'rs bef're thee, one third up front and the rest once the gentle is putteth to rest.”

“and doth thee knoweth who is't the gentle is?”

“not positively, but the one we suspecteth is L'rd Vasm'r. That gent is rum'r'd to has't hadst a castle nearby. He’s eke known f'r being … creative with his victims. ”

“i’m familiar with his st'ry, and aye, that gent is a likely candidate. How many victims hast that gent taken?”

“it’s hard to knoweth f'r sure. We’ve hath found 2 distaff from the town and a travell'r’s issue from a caravan yond hadst just hath left, but th're art oth'r people missing. Plus the three hunteth'rs. ”

“all the victims has't been taken careth of?”

“yes, yond much we can doth without a hunteth'r. The only c'rpse still 'round is the lasteth hunteth'r, who is't we just hath found yest'rday. I hath asked yond we keepeth that gent 'round a few days, since t wast cleareth that gent wast in nay dang'r of rising. I needeth practiceth on reconstructive w'rk, and i bethought thee might wanteth to seeth the wounds. ”

“practice?” D tilt'd his headeth the slightest did bite with the questioneth, just enow to maketh his coxcomb brim moveth.

Lidia hath felt h'r cheeks heateth a did bite as the lady answ'red, “i’m continuing mine own medical training. The m'rgue and the hospital art one and the same h're, so i’m a nurse, but eke holp with those who is't art beyond our careth. If 't be true i couldst, i’d becometh a doct'r, but th're’s nay lodging f'r yond kind of training 'round h're. ”

the hunteth'r gaveth h'r the slightest nodeth, as if 't be true that gent did approve of h'r statement. The lady wast a did bite embarrass'd to findeth yond t did please h'r, as if 't be true the opinion of a drift'r hadst any effect on h'r life. “you mention'd yond that gent wasn’t in dang'r of rising. I taketh t the damageth wast sev're. ”

“oh aye. In earnest, i doubteth any of these folks couldst riseth, with so dram hath left of those folk intact. We behead'd and burn'd the bodies to beest sure. But this man…” coequal with Lidia’s jad'd exp'rience, the lady couldn’t holp but wince as the c'rpse the lady hadst hath spent hours reassembling hov'r'd in h'r mind. “…it wast w'rse. If 't be true i hadn’t known t wast a gentle, i’d has't did guess th're wast something p'rsonal th're. His heart wast gone, 'long with some oth'r bits, but yond wast wherefore i wasn’t too w'rri'd about keeping that gent 'round. ”

“wh're is the hospital? i’ll cometh th're tonight to examineth the corse aft'r i s'rt out lodging f'r myself and mine own h'rse. ”

“i can giveth thee a mapeth. ” Lidia did produce a simple, cheaply did print flyeth'r from the hospital, and, b'rrowing a pen from the bartend'r, did extend the grid of streets to their location. “i’m afraid i don’t has't any suggestions f'r a lodging to stayeth. Given…” the lady hath felt h'r cheeks heating again as the lady stamm'r'd. “i mean… we don’t typically has't thy kind in town. Not yond i expecteth most of those folk wouldst guess… i nev'r hath said aught. Thee passeth f'r human well-enough. ” the lady did bite h'r tongue bef're the lady couldst maketh t worse.

Despite h'r flust'r'd state, the lady bethought the lady did see the tiniest hint of a smileth in the hunteth'r’s expression. “not to w'rry. I’m accustom'd to finding an unconventional option. I’ll seeth thee at 8 at the hospital. ” that gent stoodeth in motion so swift and smooth yond Lidia’s eye hardly hath followed t. With a nodeth, that gent hath left, his longeth black coat sweeping about that gent as that gent did step out the doth'r liketh a dark windeth.

An Incident Within the Tavern of Kettle’s Crossing, as Chronicled by Pilupa Bombina, Druid.

We art gathered in a tavern in Kettle’s Crossing, for such places amuseth my companions. They art each engaged in such manner that seemeth best unto them, and I shall recount unto thee these activities, for indeed they art characteristic of my friends.

Alton, in whom the desire for sporting riseth eternal, doth look upon the barmaid with eyes of longing. He speaketh to her of her sanguinous lips (and methinketh he hath mistaken the word, intending not to call her mouth bloodied, but the barmaid knoweth not the difference), but more oft he glanceth down at the ebon expanse of her bosom. Doubteth I that she intendeth to take him to mate, but since he payeth shining silver coins for the ale she priceth in coppers, she doth indulge him as a madman or small child.

Longing doth also sit forlorn upon Ronja’s fair countenance, but she looketh not upon the barmaid. Her eyes art fixed upon a tankard, for she hath found much pleasure in simple ale in other times. Within the mines, however, she didst imbibe an ancient dwarven brew. For long days it didst cloud the wits of Ronja, and of Nienna and Steve, until at last their stomachs revolteth at the parasites hidden within, and they three vomiteth up creatures like unto slugs. Ronja doth fear another such infestation, and therefore she drinketh only water this night, but she envieth Steve and Nienna, who art braver than she.

Nienna drinketh from her tankard often, and enjoyeth her ale as she doth entertain a small child. Firstly she doth attempt to juggle her two daggers, and though her hands art quick and she cutteth not herself, the child swiftly wearieth of this simple display. The child demandeth that Nienna doth add forks, plates and flaming pitchforks unto her juggling, and brooketh not Nienna’s refusal. Then doth Nienna distract the child with a ruse as cunning as the sun is cold, and saith ‘uh, look over there.’ As the child glanceth away, Nienna slideth beneath the table, her ale in hand.

Steve doth also imbibe deeply of his ale, and he giggleth as one of the men of the town instructeth him in the art of a game they calleth ‘tiddlywinks’. He frowneth in concentration fierce, and droppeth his counter in his tankard. Then chanteth they in unison, demanding that Steve swalloweth all his ale and spitteth the counter into the mouth of another of their number. They all seemeth merrily drunk, and although I comprehendeth not the appeal, I appreciateth that Steve seemeth unworried for once.

And I? I sitteth and spyeth upon these strange people and their ways, and idly I considereth dancing to the tune the jongleurs doth play. However, they doth conclude the song before I ariseth from my seat. The singers, the piper and the halfling who playeth the bagpipes conferreth amongst themselves, and they smileth as they looketh around the room. Their eyes doth linger on the five of us in turn, and then they beginneth.

We’ll sing a tale to make you pale Of mighty foes and heroes frail Of blackest sin and strength within Pay heed, for now we begin!

Four they were and five became; They justly earned our praise and fame. To our hearts they’ve laid a claim We’ll sing you each glorious name.

Our leading man exudes elan And always has a cunning plan Alton’s spells unleash the Hells On foes, to impress the damsels.

Then am I surprised to hear Alton’s name sung in such glowing terms, and decideth I that it art a common one. Surely they singeth of some other person? Admittedly, the folk of this village hath regarded us as heroes e’er since we set alight the mine upon our escape, but still…

He may look small but please recall His clever magic has saved us all He leaves a trail of hearts in thrall Trust Alton, whatever else befall.

Alton now heareth his name and looketh he away from the barmaid. He grinneth and commenceth clapping along to the tune, and I believeth he sayeth, “That’s me they’re singin’ about, lass. And they’re not doing me justice at all, if you know what I mean.” Then, as is his wont, his eyebrow waggleth.

Ronja groaneth, and shareth we a look.

Our elven thief has known true grief But still, her skills are beyond belief No eye will spy her passing by And clever locks she doth defy.

At the next verse, I feeleth some misgiving. My friend Nienna art indeed an elf, and most gifted in the arts of stealth and the picking of locks. I looketh down, and there beholdeth a slight fluttering of the oilcloth. It seemeth Nienna, too, heareth the song and thinketh as doth Ronja and I – these jongleurs singeth of us!

Nienna’s quiet, but held in dread Her daggers oft are dripping red Be not foolhardy, be not misled Thwart her, and wind up dead.

From beneath the table, mine ears doth catch the quiet words with which Nienna giveth voice to her disbelief.

“What the fuck?”

Those brawny arms have their charms Sculpted strong upon a farm-

Methinks this verse will telleth of Ronja, then. Shaketh she her head, and looketh she under the oilcloth, to decideth if there art room for her there. Alton danceth across the floor, clapping still, and seateth he himself beside Ronja.

She takes the field, the foe-men yield To Ronja’s sword and shield.

Clad in doleful armour black Mere dragons flee from her attack Yet her heart still cries the lack Of home and of barn and of haystack.

“Haystack, eh?” Alton saith, and diggeth his elbow into Ronja’s side as he chuckleth. Ronja seemeth too embarrassed, mayhap, or too stunned, by this song to respondeth by pushing him away or by gruntling her disgust, which meaneth she is discombobulated indeed.

A handsome face and flaming mace- That’s Steve, our paragon of grace. He damage deals and heals all weals ‘We fear him!’ the enemy squeals.

‘Squeals?” saith Steve, and looketh up from his game. “Really?”

“Squeals, aye, like stuck pigs,” saith Alton. “Haven’t you heard them?”

“Yes,” chimeth in Ronja. “We can always tell when you’re fighting by the squealing.”

“Thanks, guys,” mumbleth Steve, as the jongleurs singeth on.

They named him Aldrin when he was born And to the service of Kord he’s sworn He’s radiant as the rising dawn And never will he be forlorn.

“Radiant,” repeateth Steve.

“Yeah,” cometh Nienna’s voice from under the table. “These guys are weird.”

They travelled west upon a quest And met upon a fateful jest: Our heroes bold as slaves were sold And tossed into a mining hold.

There they met a druid fair With wide green eyes and golden hair. She said to them, ‘do not despair I’ll aid thee to escape this evil snare.”

Feeleth I somewhat amused that my own introduction to this tale-song art shorter than those of my friends, and mayhap somewhat relieved. But Ronja perceiveth this as injustice, and calleth she to the jongleurs to sing more of me, and of toads, and of how she wrestled a bear. The jongleurs payeth no heed unto her – methinks they art familiar with unappreciative audiences – and singeth they on.

Singeth they of the long weeks we toiled in the mine, and how bravely we didst give up our food to others who wert in need, and how Ronja offered herself to be tortured by our orcish guards, lest they slake their hunger for cruelty upon a child. Singeth they of how Steve tended her wounds with her tears (and laugheth I, as he shaketh his head). On the song continueth, and heareth we how we ventured into the deeps of the caverns and discovered a hundred-headed-hydra-dragon, whose evil spell had turned all the mine into its toys.

Ronja art laughing so hard by now that the singers needeth increase their volume, and foul looks turneth they upon her, while Alton suggesteth improvements to the tale (he thinketh that he shouldst have seduced the hydra, for he couldst find good use for a hundred tongues). A low, repeated ‘what the actual fuck?’ doth emanate from under the table as the jongleurs continue.

Nienna, it seemeth, sliced fourteen of its heads off with a single throw of her dagger, and then becameth something like unto a tornado of poisoned steel while the beast wert blinded by the holy light of Steve’s purity and well-favoured countenance. Ronja’s shield whirled like a discus, severing ten heads before returning to her hand, while I changed into the likeness of a tarrasque and battled the hydra as an equal. Still, all our efforts wert solely in the cause of buying time for Alton, as he wove a spell of such potency that the very air trembled and went black. Nienna fell, cleft almost in twain by a stroke of the hydra’s tail, and Steve gave blood of his blood and life of his life to bring her back from the very brink of death.

Then as Rinja cried revenge and buried her sword in its heart, Alton’s spell turned the monster inside out and showered us with innards and swallowed treasure.

“Ewwww,” Ronja commenteth, and I noddeth in agreement, for the entrails of predators are noisome affairs.

Then, singeth the jongleurs, with the evil spell broken, we led the slaves from the mines. They explaineth not why the guards stop us not, nor when we washed off hydra-guts, nor even how the mines cameth to be afire. Indeed, the whole song maketh little sense, but when it art finished, the tavern erupts in cheers for the singers, and for us. Ronja still laugheth, and Steve repeateth random lines as though his brain art broken, and Nienna cometh not forth from under the table, and Alton hath begun to scribbleth down the lines sung and the improvements he wouldst fain see made.

And I?

I will never comprehendeth these folk.

TGIWednesday... a memorable Thanksgiving

TGIWednesday News

I was in my early teens and rode my bike to my then girlfriend’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. The table was decorated like it was out of a magazine or on a Thanksgiving movie set. We had been dating for a while so I was comfortable with her parents and looking forward to the traditional Thanksgiving fare. There was turkey, stuffing and gravy and I glanced into the kitchen to see a pumpkin pie cooling on a counter next to a can of perspiring cool whip. After a grace that seemed like an eternity, we were ready to dig in. I took my turn but got a little of all of it - even (no thank you) a helping of some sort of questionable cranberry chutney. The main vegetable was revealed when her father removed a lid from a large corning ware container revealing 4 of the largest steaming vidalia onions I had ever seen. Yikes I thought to myself. I love chopped onions in any type of salad, on a hoagie, even scallions, anything raw, any color of purple, but not cooked onions! They were my kryptonite and could ruin any meal. I knew I would feel nauseous for hours and track the slow painful movement of the onion going through my body for days. Nope, not going to do it, and blurted out that I was allergic to onions like some teen that was in the principal’s office arguing that they were not technically late for school. During the holidays and any time you don’t want to do something, remember in the words of my momma the Great Granny Ruth. "No" is a one word sentence. I see you sticking up for your preferences, likes and dislikes regardless of what others might think or say or do. If there is something you don’t want to eat or do or be, just say No and let the chips (or onions) fall where they may. To thine own self be true! Seeing you enjoying these holidays and beyond as you read this now.
