Aside from bkdk, I'm a bakubowl multishipping connoisseur. I think bakujirou isn't more popular bc Jirou has very little manga panel time or development. But Hori isn't great at developing his female characters anyway. Ochaco by far has the most besides Toga, maybe with Ashido behind them somewhere so it makes sense that the most fleshed out characters get shipped together.

blue period. blue period tells the story of yatora yaguchi. it's about the challenges and rewards of a career in the arts. he realises he's only doing things to make other people happy, but then he discovers the joy of painting.

children of the whales. cotw is the story of chakuro, a young guy who lives on the mud whale, a massive ship that sails aimlessly through a sand sea. chakuro serves as the mud whale's archivist, penning an objective record of the events that happen on ship. he's also one of the "marked," or short-lived bearers of thymia. the mud whale's ppl live quiet lives, but when a wrecked boat carrying a young woman drifts by, they discover that there is a huge world out there.

diamond no ace. this is about eijun sawamura, a pitcher who is invited to seidou high school by a scout who recognises the potential in his peculiar pitching style and enthusiasm. eijun declares that he will be the ace of the seidou baseball team, which has a plethora of talented and skilled players. the seidou baseball team, along with the rest of the team, aspires to defeat other similarly skillful teams to win the nationals in japan.

honey lemon soda. this one is about ishimori uka who was bullied in junior high school who gradually changes after meeting kai miura, a boy with lemon-colored hair.

shall we have dinner tonight? it's about do-hee woo and hae-gyung kim who are both single. they meet each other when they were trying to eat alone at the same resturant and shortly became friends who dine together every week.

with a dog and a cat, every day is fun. a cute and hilarious manga about the mangaka's cat, neko and her dog, inu.

honobono log. it's very cute and short. it shows lovely snippets into the lives of couples and families.

poco's udon world. this anime follows souta as he returns home to his family's udon shop. throughout the series, he meets a young boy named poco who turns out to be a tanuki, and the two gradually form a bond. it's a really heartwarming show!

I finally read Shoji's backstory and holy freaking shit is that messed up. He came from a backwater village where people were even willing to kill children to keep blood pure and I'm like??? looking at those npcs face's like they're from the Salem Witch Trial's era from how Hori drew em, but this kinda reminds me of real stuff in today's age too. Anyways. Shoji's hometown is Fukuoka, so you can see where I'm going with this. I so need Shoji and Hawks interactions now. (1/2)

I am once again thinking there were no good heroes in Kyushu until Hawks showed up. Not a single mention of former top agencies, Tokyo is packed but that little island on the other end of Japan has only him. Shoji liked watching "heroes who look like villains" rankings and idk I feel Dabi's video might've shifted things a bit. Hawks might not have grown up in a village, but that was pretty darn isolated too, it's some kind of understanding. Toko and Shoji could take over his agency one day. (2/2

I wish we weren't just learning about Shoji's experiences just now as a moment as heavy as this should have definitely been hinted at in the story so much sooner. We barely get to see Shoji as a character, let alone see him among the people and how the reacted to him, so this moment, while very tragic to hear, just doesn't have the effect for me that it should draw out.

Even though I like the detail he cames from Fukuoka but again, as it wasn't set up to show the difference between places like Kyuushu and the main land, it doesn't really do much for the story beyond linking him to another character (but then Hawks didn't seem to face discrimination he did so why are they linked?).

I'm going to trust in fandom to give Shoji the story he deserves as I would love for Hawks and Shoji to bond over coming from a place where heroes weren't common and discrimination was more rampant. I would love to see what Tokoyami experienced as well (I hate that Hori decided to excuse why most of his mutant characters didn't experience what Shoji did was because they came from the city) and them bonding over it.

Is Dabi a good character and easy to relate to in your opinion? Do you also feel sympathy for him after his reveal?

I'd say his concept is good, but the execution was highly lacking and it makes him hard to relate to (at least for me).

To be honest I sympathized with him far more before we had the reveal and got his backstory. I will admit that Endeavor's redemption arc also played a role--not so much as I think that Enji did nothing wrong, but that when I saw him being set up for that kind of arc, I knew that a lot of the really over the top theories about Touya's death weren't going to be true (like Enji purposely burning him or forcing him to train until he died).

Yes, Touya was neglected and Enji did not help him in any meaningful way. Yet, at the same time it didn't come across as purposely malicious. His intent doesn't matter of course, but it comes across as very different from what happened to Shoto, who, although Enji trained, it was clear he was also taking his frustrations out on. It's a lot easier to understand how Enji could convince himself that cutting Touya off from the Hero world would help him, even if that includes not spending time with him and putting all the work on Rei. Meanwhile, his treatment of Shoto was no where near being simply training. It's clear he full on beat a four-year-old, which would take mountains of denial to blind yourself to the truth.

Hori also hasn't done Touya many favors by refusing to show him having any positive interactions with his family outside of Enji. He gets mad and snaps at Natsuo when he says he's tired, he tells Fuyumi that a girl could never understand him when she shows concern for his burns, when his siblings ask him to play he's clearly not having fun and instead glaring over at the training building, jealous of Shoto.

It's not that I don't get where his frustrations come from, but I really wish Hori had shown a mix of interactions. Maybe he snaps at Fuyumi, but doesn't at Natsuo. Maybe when he's playing with them he's happy, but then he hears noise form the training room and is pulled back into his negative emotions.

But to me the biggest thing that sapped all my sympathy for him was the reveal of what happened to him after he burned on the mountain. AfO/Ujiko being involved made sense even if I think it's a waste having them be involved in another main villain's backstory. But what really turned it from boring but believable to "I can't take this seriously” was Touya going back to his house. It was a string of convinces, and plot holes. Also, having Touya wake up and be desperate to see his family, but then 20 min later saying 'fuck 'em!' because his dad was still an asshole, continued to undermine the idea that Touya gives a shit about anyone but Enji.

And sure, on a fundamental level I feel bad for him. He didn't deserve what happened to him. His father and mother to a lesser extent failed him. But at the same time I don't feel that sympathy in my core--it's more that I logically get that what happened was bad. It’s kind of like when a story piles one bad thing after another on a character in rapid succession in a clear attempt to force the audience to feel sad for them, but it just feels forced. My brain is like, yes that is unfair and sad, but my heart just doesn’t feel anything. 

To me Dabi is a wasted opportunity. He really could have been great--if you want any evidence of that just go read the many character analysis’s of him by the fans who love him. The way the describe him and view him, is the way I think he should have been written. My issue is that all that good stuff is either tiny nuggets hidden under a bunch of other stuff or even missing entirely. For a lot of people the shadow of what he could have ben and what little is there is enough and they love him to death. For me personally though, that’s not enough.  

#I really liked Dabi when I first saw him #before I fixated on Stain he was my fav #but like with the rest of the LoV I think Hori dropped the ball #and they just don't live up to what they could have been #for some people that's fine #they can fill in the blanks how they want #and as long as their fav gets a happy end their okay with it #but I don't feel that way #i like happy endings #but more then that I want a coherent #well put together story

I’m so sorry that I interact on almost every one of your posts (so sorry again) but I really like your posts where you are positive to Horikoshi instead of the usual ones where they’re tearing him to shreds. Obviously I don’t know what you personally think about him, but it’s refreshing and very nice to see someone bringing attention to things you think he does right instead of being really unnecessary harsh or anything

I'm not saying Hori is free from anything. Every creator makes their mistakes and has their flaws, but its like the fandom takes it to the nth degree and criticizes everything he does. It's just... its awful to watch happen. Plus its really not good for my health to watch everyone do it which is why I try to counter it with positive posts

Personally, I think Hori is pretty good! I think he has flaws, like every content creator does, and to me, that's what makes him more human and real than everyone who puts people like him on a pedestal

I think what people forget is that, content creators are human. There has been a time in their lives where they've excitedly drawn character concepts or written drafts about a scene to their favorite music or sat down with their friend and talked passionately about what happens next in their story

You ever seen those sketches he does where he draws his characters and an apology next to them because he missed something out? Like that one time he forgot to add Skeptic in that scene where Compress puts Dabi in a marble when he was supposed to put Dabi and Skeptic in the marble?

(this is that sketch, where we have an arrow pointing to Skeptic and Hori's handsona burnt on the ground. Hori had forgotten to add Skeptic in the chapter online but this error was easily fixed in the released volume)

Or that time when he did an extra page with 6 paragraphs on some news reporter we saw maybe 2 times?

Like... to me, these are so humanising. He's not some creator you put on a pedestal and expect the world of, he's a guy in an office telling a story he wants to tell! And I love that!

I wasn’t gonna answer this originally, but since it’s shigi’s birthday I’ll make an exception just for him <3 this ends the series tho, I won’t do any more

Starting off with one of my fave shigis. I love this illustration of him. I think it was pretty early on too, maybe at the mall miniarc? Waay before Shigi was given character development anyway. I just love how this picture shows the true colors of those hands. Here, he doesn’t look like the monster that he’s supposed to be in the heroes’ narrative. The hands are swarming him, choking him, grabbing him obsessively from every angle. Hori says he hates drawing unexpressive hands, and yet this illustration is the opposite of that. Those are very clearly portrayed as stifling, controlling hands that have an abusive hold on him. I just think it’s very neat visual storytelling.

Introspective Shigi has a sort of beautiful melancholy to him that is second only to the Todofam. He looks so young here. I love this panel

Oh and in regards to Mirio, that’s understandable!! I personally think he’s an endearing character because I like that he took his circumstances and made them work for him through his own hard work and practice, and even when things got bad, he never blamed that on the little girl who was also a victim. I’ve seen too many characters in all sorts of media do that by “accident”, so I appreciated that Hori went in that direction for his character. But I also know what it means to have a character ruined because fans are so loud and rude about it. I’ve had that happen to me before and sometimes it would be so annoying I’d end up dropping whole shows because of it. It’s frustrating so I’m sorry that happened to you too, but I sincerely hope you’ll be able to look back and see his character in a different lens (I’m still hoping about that myself with [redacted] ><‘) ^^

genuinely there is nothing to gain from arguing. sounds like its their issue and not mine tbh

and despite my own dislike currently for mirio, i wouldnt say his character was handled badly or hes badly written, something many people try to say when talking about a character they dont like, who may be written fairly well. horikoshi did well for him, and the shie hissaikai arc really was the highlight for his character.. but like you said, loud stans just ruined the character for me when i was just getting into his introduction. maybe it'll change in the future! we'll have to wait and see what he does here on out - but i'll give the benefit of the doubt, considering those same people arent quite as loud these days.

Y'all better believe I freaked out when I saw this. I've seen lots of theories about this too. Mostly traitor!Kirishima since Bakugou's doing his pose and the other two are posing like villains. Also fan art. So. Much. Fan art. Now on to the chapter.

We see Jeanist in the plane getting ready to jump out while the latest episode of Keeping Up With The Todorokis plays in the background and he's not too happy about Dabi using his and his family's trauma to destroy hero society. I get that Dabi shouldn't have exposed Endeavour in the most damaging way possible for everyone involved but in his defence 1) it's not his fault Enji was a peice of shit to his family and 2) Dabi's a Todoroki, being dramatic is ingrained in their DNA.

YAS JEANIST FUCK EM UP. Bakugou you really should not be standing right now, I can see the pain it's causing you all over your face. So was it really a dead body in that bag? And Dabi, didn't you also not believe it was actually Jeanist or did the months of him missing convince you it was actually him?

Dabi is glowing like the sun and smoking like a Colorado wild fire which can't possibly be healthy for him. Dabi is all "Whatever bitch, the Todoroki family drama is to strong to be defeated by mere steel wires. Right, Shouto?" as Todoroki charges towards his previously-thought-to-be-dead older brother with some fire of his own. Compress and Spinner are talking about how Jeanist actually managed to subdue Machia and Spinner is all "Doesn't Machia have super strength tho?" and I'm here sitting in my seat wondering if the anaesthetic finally kicked in as Jeanist tightens the wire around Machia.

Spinner realises that Machia has been panting ever since they arrive, aka when his orders were full filled. So now he's disparately trying to wake Shiggy up so he can give Machia a reason to stay awake but then a wild Nejire-chan appears out of no where and she looks fucking pissed the fuck off and I am here for it.

FOR FUCK SAKE DABI GOD DAMNIT FUCK

There was a house. I think it might have been Tenko's, I'm not sure. So anyway, Shiggy woke up and he's thinking to himself "Damn I'm itchy but I can't move. Lemme fix that." and then orders Machia to break free. So Machia is doing that and now Jeanist with his one (1) lung are having a hard time keeping up.

It's been like six months since I last visited duolingo but I'm pretty sure those sound effects say "Aaaaa" which I find hilarious. I also completely forgot this was happening. Is Shiggy calling back the NHE? Cause the others are fucked if that's what's happening.

I had the ending of this chapter spoiled for me so I already know who that is which sucks all the fun out of it but I'll act like I don't know who it is out of respect for their character.

So Dabi and Shouto are battling it out final agnikai style and Shouto is all "So your the one who sent that villain to our house!!?! NATSUO ALMOST DIED YOU ASSHOLE!!! DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FAVOURITE BROTHER?!!!!?!!!" And Dabi's stone cold response is "But Endeavour would have suffered" so Shouto has the natural response of "HAVE YOU COMPLETELY LOST YOUR MIND" to which Dabi responds with "YOUR GODDAMN RIGHT I DID." and how he no longer has the ability to care about anything anymore which is very sad but damnit this panel would look godly animated.

So Dabi is like "Now I can finally kill you" as he gets ready to kill Shouto and the NHE are showing up and Jeanist is completely out in the open now. Whatever shall happen now???? Oh dearist me. If only the heroes had another secret ace up their sleeve that was not in anyone's plans because of how unlikely it was to happen. I wonder.

DON'T YOU JUST LOVE IT WHEN PAST TRAUMA AND CURRENT TRAUMA MIX IN THE MOST TOXIC, SELF DEPRICATING WAY POSSIBLE???? Izuku, who has done literally everything in his power to keep everyone from a groosome desintergrating demise, the one who is physically incapable of moving, is really sitting here calling himself a useless hero because his body's natural instinct to not die, which he still has apparently, is preventing him from floating head first into the arms of Death. BOI YOU SHOULDN'T EVEN BE CONCIOUS RIGHT NOW WHAT DO YOU MEAN!??!!?

We know Aizawa has been training Eri's quirk but when did she get enough control to be able to fix him? I'm so glad she can control her quirk now cause it means she won't be scare of accidentally uno reversing someone out of existence.

Still very disappointed the Mirio reveal was spoiled for me. Pogchamp was hilarious but still. I'm sure the official translation will have him saying something boring like "POWERRRRRRRRR". Sigh. Welp time to commit verbal assassination.
