Uniqlo baker pants are actually elite
- MASSIVE front pockets!!! + slightly bigger than average back pockets
- aesthetically nice wide leg cut — fashionable but formal enough for workwear
- high waist
- comfy
- 100% cotton, on the lightweight side
- they don’t have black but the navy is honestly really close to black (I didn’t realise it was meant to be navy til I rechecked the online listing)

uniqlo x ffxiv collab;
Here are translations of the Uniqlo x FFXIV advertisements that hit Japanese stores in December 2019.
Wait... What? An announcement was posted on Lodestone today that tapestries (basically just banners) of FFXIV characters would be displayed in select Uniqlo stores in Shinjuku and Ikebukuro.
I’ve heard of Uniqlo, but I don’t know what it is... Uniqlo is a Japanese fashion brand that’s pretty much known for selling basics — think single-color shirts, sweaters, pants, coats, and scarves. While I won’t speak for everyone, and I’m sure some people have wildly different opinions, my personal experience is that in Tokyo, Uniqlo is thought of as a very basic, bargain-bin place to buy clothes: yeah, it’s normal to shop there, and pretty much everyone has some item from Uniqlo in their closet somewhere, but it’s not really considered fashionable, and it’s honestly a bit uncool to wear Uniqlo from head to toe. In New York, however, Uniqlo is generally thought of as basic but trendy — people tend to like the quality of the clothing even though individual items can be pricey. In the end, a brand is a brand. If they operate in your country, you may as well head to their website to get your own idea of it.
So this is basically just an advertising campaign? Yes, and a very limited one. If I understand correctly, the ads are only running in three Uniqlo stores in all of Tokyo. They’re pretty big stores in trendy neighborhoods, but not the flagship store or anything. (Their flagship store is in Ginza, which is very nice, but rather mature and austere.) Also, they are specifically advertising Uniqlo’s “HEATTECH” clothing line, which, I don’t know, uses science to keep you warm or something. I have never tried HEATTECH clothes, though I have other pieces of clothing from Uniqlo, but I am told that they are pretty warm.
How weird is this for Uniqlo? Honestly, not that weird — Uniqlo does a lot of collaborations with popular series, mostly thanks to their T-shirt line that’s collaborated with such characters and series as Mario, Gundam, Pokémon, Hello Kitty, and all manner of mangas. I don’t know whether or not they’ve run fake testimonials from characters before, but the testimonial-based ads themselves are just a thing that Uniqlo does. I’m pretty sure they’ve done comparable campaigns in Singapore and Taiwan, albeit with real people giving their opinions and not Final Fantasy characters. Their “Voices of New York” series was somewhat similar as well — they got a bunch of famous New Yorkers to wear Uniqlo and do little interviews, basically.
How weird is this for Square Enix? Honestly, not that weird — I mean, will anything ever be as weird as when they decided to have Lightning and other characters from FFXIII model for Prada and Louis Vuitton? FFXV had fashion collaborations with Vivienne Westwood and Roen built into the game, too, although that was a little more... serious. I’m actually just disappointed that they didn’t whip up a Uniqlo HEATTECH shirt for the characters to actually wear.
How weird is this, like... generally? Oh, it’s very silly, but character collaborations are all kind of a big joke anyway. And, to be honest, they do get nerds to get into their stores and buy shit.
Photos were taken randomly off Twitter. Thank you to everyone who visited Uniqlo just to share the banners with social media.
As for the text itself, I... I don’t want to talk about it...
HEATTECH x FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE The reason I wear Heattech every day...
Tumblr media
ESTINIEN Former Azure Dragoon Heattech lover for 5 years.
Under my armor, I’m always wearing Heattech. Has it already been 5 years, now? 'Twas Ser Aymeric who originally recommended to me these garments. At first, I was half in doubt as to the veracity of his claims, but once I equipped mine own apparel, I was stunned by how well it performed. It doesn't matter how high I jump through the frigid air of Coerthas — I never get cold. Now I can't even imagine fighting in the skies without Heattech.
Tumblr media
ALPHINAUD LEVEILLEUR Academician of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn Heattech lover for 1 year.
In Heattech, I'm warm from the tips of my fingers down to my toes. During my journey through Ishgard, a companion of mine recommended that I wear these curious garments to stay warm, and I have not been parted from them since. Even as I gathered bits of brush and kindling in the Churning Mists for our campfire, I felt not the slightest chill.
ALISAIE LEVEILLEUR Red Mage of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn Heattech lover for 1 year.
When something red catches my eye, I just have to have it. And each time a new Heattech product comes out, I'll add it to my wardrobe without hesitation. These garments don't get in the way during frenzied combat, and they provide the ease of movement that I need in the heat of battle. They come in so many tempting colors that I do find it difficult to choose between them every now and then — but in the end, I always pick red!
Tumblr media
Y’SHTOLA RHUL Sorceress of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn Heattech lover for 6 years.
Every sorceress worth her salt keeps a few secrets... and Heattech is one of mine. Naturally, these vestments will keep you warm, and I particularly appreciate that they feel smooth to the touch. ‘Twould be an exaggeration to say that I could forget that I am wearing them, but... I do find myself advantaged by the way that they do not obstruct the flow of magic. As Master Matoya has chosen to reside in a rather dark, chilly cave, I thought it prudent to send her a selection of Heattech raiments. I wonder how well she found them.
Tumblr media
CID NAN GARLOND President of Garlond Ironworks Heattech lover for 9 years.
Heattech is our company's hidden uniform. Garlond Ironworks engineers often work in cold environments, so Heattech garments have become indispensable to our performance. Anyone who's ever flown an airship knows this well: when you're at the helm, you're at the mercy of the winds, and those winds are cold. That's why every engineer in our organization is provided with a Heattech undershirt. And you? Will you join our number?
NERO TOL SCAEVA Freelance Genius Engineer Heattech lover for 9 years.
This is something I might engineer — which is how you know it’s good. Garlond’s Heattech undershirt is naught but a simple garment, whereas mine is fitted with a magitek weave that promotes superior heat retention!
Tumblr media
KRILE BALDESION Archon of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn Heattech lover for 3 years.
Do you suppose we might call this... the power to transcend the cold? Thanks to the raging aether surrounding the isle, Eureka Anemos undergoes volatile changes in temperature, making Heattech an absolute necessity for exploring the more frosty areas of the Forbidden Land. Even that obstinate Ejika hides an undershirt beneath his robes, you know! I myself am rather partial to sporting a good pair of Heattech short pants whilst on expedition. I don't believe even the brightest minds at the Studium could have conceived of such practical use for this technology.
Please note that Sharlayan lore isn’t my strong suit, and I never set foot in Eureka, so it is possible that there are better ways to interpret some of Krile’s remarks here.
also here’s my version thank u good night

shadowplay part 12
It's dark by the time you arrive at the little cabin which is incredibly skewed towards glamping. There's trees flocking every side, and little fairy lights scattered around the porch.
The sight is enough to make a romantic out of anyone.
Miles wastes no time, running in, Zack on his heels, to throw himself into the first bedroom he likes, "I call the master!"
"Like hell your getting it," Zack yells, tackling Miles.
"Should we tell them they're sharing a room," Breana asks, pouting as she takes a selfie in front of the doorway, tilting her head just right.
Matt snorts, placing an arm around his girlfriend, and throwing the laziest peace sign up in her photos, "Let them have their fun." He smiles down at Breana with a fondness that speaks of years and years of being together.
"I'm guessing you already know which room you want," you ask Breana whose clearly in charge here which doesn't surprise you at all. Alex doesn't own any pans at his flat and you highly doubt that Miles is any better. There's some hope that Zack isn't completely useless on his own, but then again, he's a single man in the music business. It's not a overly large hope.
You knew enough rich men from work to know that they're usually helpless even if they're helpless in 10,000 pound suits.
It evened out.
"No," Breana says sweetly, having only eyes for Matt. "You take whichever room you want."
"I don't really care," you reply taking in the tastefully decorated living room. You run your hand over the sofa, noting the acrylic fabric, not yet matted down. Probably some Ikea adjacent sofa. It no longer cost an arm and a leg to have nice things, though the vintage technique would undoubtedly last longer. You'd been to many country estates, on last minitue alterations to know that. Hundred year old linens still in perfect forms.
Estate sales were your best friend.
"Well if you're sure," Breana replies, leveling her gaze with yours, "I'll take-," "We'll," Matts corrects.
"We'll," Breana smiles, looking at Matt with the biggest smile on her face, "take the room with the patio."
"For the gram," you grin.
"Gotta keep up with the algorithm." She'd already told you about her clothing brand, which was just another line of basics that you didn't really think anyone needed. Uniqlo was enough. And she'd shown you her instagram which was exactly what you imagined it too be, bright light californian influencer aesthetic, clearly influenced by minimalism which photographed very well.
"Does that mean I should post more often than every couple of months," you tease, meeting Alex's heavy gaze, as he leans against a wall, boots still on. You could never wear shoes indoor, but you suppose it isn't your place so it doesn't matter. Your floral embroidered bag in his hand, along with his own bags.
"Yes! We should work on your instagram while we're here," Breana offers, "there's so many cute pictures we could take."
Matt chuckles, "later."
"Later," she repeats, all heart eyed.
You tilt your head, watching them. She was easily out of his league. And yet, here she was, actually in love with Matt, who you still couldn't puzzle out. If she was your girlfriend, you'd have pulled over at all her cute and dumb points of interest along the road. It was a road trip after all. A road trip with his girlfriend and friends, not just the lads.
Alex tilts his head, motioning down the hallway. You can here Zack and Miles in some room fighting over what song to blast through the speakers, Miles upselling the virtues of some obscure 70s band.
You follow Alex, half walking, half sliding along the wooden floor, artificial pine smell still in the air from when it had last been cleaned. The yeezy socks had been a gag gift from Sam for last christmas. "Isn't Arielle's wedding next month," you ask Alex, still thinking of the strung up fairy lights.
"Why," he asks, opening the closed room.
You switch the lights on, taking a second to play with the sliding switch. Definitely something you wanted when you finally bought a house. You'd finally made the appointment with a realtor for the week that you returned. You'd dragged your feet long enough. A thirty minute commute to work wasn't bad if you got a little garden out of it. A place to drink tea.
"I was just thinking that she'd for sure have fairy lights. A pinterest wedding," you bit your lips, "you think pinterest sponsers influencers."
"How'd you figure she'd an influencer," Alex asks instead, putting the bags down and finally kicking his boots off as he sits down on the bed.
You close the door, locking it for once because you didn't fancy Miles bursting in if you wanted to change. He was definitely shameless enough to not care, acting without thinking, without meaning any harm. "She had that effort effortless look," you shrug, "its basically a job to look that effortless."
Alex laughs, " 's true. But I don't really want to talk about her."
"Sorry."
"No," he says, leaning back on his hands, watching as you change into a pajama set. You'd have blushed if you hadn't changed in front of him loads of times before. Your mothers solution to body image issues, being a therapist and all, was to make you stand in front a a mirror and repeat 'I'm beautiful' before going to school every day. It had been stupid then, but clearly had worked. You didn't even mind the belly rolls you got when leaning over to pull your shorts on. "I just don't want to bother with the past anymore."
You nod, smiling over at him, "good to hear you move on."
Alex smiles back, red creeping up his cheeks. "I 'fink I've moved on a while ago actually. . .just crept up on me."
"That’s good," you tell him, looking down at the floor, wood like the rest of the cabin which was closer to a chateau. Rich people honestly. You try to shove down the hope ballooning in your chest at his words, as if you'd have any chance. His friends are here. And-you stop your train of thoughts right there, unwilling to go further like a coward. "Guess you can go out and be a proper rock star instead of being a sap at my flat."
"Oh," Alex grins with a smirk that's so fitting with his sleeked back hair and the 50s greaser aesthetic he was so fond of, "Don't lie, you like having me over."
"I like getting free take out," you counter with a grin of your own, laying down on the bed next to him. "And you do have great taste in music, but don't let it go to your head."
"Too late. My ego's the size of the hollywood sign."
You laugh, looking up at him. You really were glad you'd decided to come. "Is your horde of gel the mountain the signs on?"
"Never can win with you can I," Alex smiles, looking down at you, his eyes twinkling in the soft light, dark like a glass of top shelf scotch. Your heart fluttered in your chest, you couldn't maintain eye contact when he looked at you like that, your thoughts surging wildly, sending your pulse racing. It had been happening a lot more lately.
You liked him.
Too much.
You couldn't help it. It was Alex. He was easy to like, easy to let into your life until you couldn't imagine your life without him there, smiling like a dork despite trying to look like John Travolta in Grease, carting a record player to your flat because music just wasn't the same without the scratches in old vinyl records. "Your words not mine." You swallow thickly.
Alex strokes the side of your face gently, his touch setting your skin aflame, leaving you breathless. There's-there's no excuse. No friends to pretend for. No movie playing to cut the tension. You want desperately to pull away before your feelings are crushed. But you can't his gaze resting so earnestly on you, pinning you to the bed.
"Can we talk," he finally utters, in that serious stilted way, as if Alex can only approach words from the side, never head on, never as comfortable as he was in writing.
"Sure."
A knock on the door.
Loud.
Harsh.
Jolts you out of whatever trance you'd been in, letting you release a breath you didn't know you'd been holding, letting you look away from Alex. Zacks voice calls out from the hall, "we're going to order food!"
You force your voice to stay stead, unwilling to betray the rush of emotions coursing through you, blood rushing in your veins. Chest full of butterflies as you  answer, "don't tease me like that Zack, just let me know when the foods here." You should've used this as an out. But-it's Alex. That's the whole problem. You care for him, as a friend, as more.
You'd never just leave him because you're feeling like being a coward.
"Okay," Zack laughs, "just don't blame me if you hate everything we order."
"I'm sure the spiciest thing you've ever had was salt and pepper," you call back.
You listen to his steps disappear down the hall, eyes trained on the door. Heart beating like a sewing machine making it's way down the line of an inseam. You can't think, all flustered like this.
Taking a deep breath, you turn to Alex.
He takes your face in his hands, cupping your cheeks, his touch hot on your skin, his entire body leaning towards you the way sunflowers turn to face the sun, soaking in their rays. You're breathless.
There's no wavier in his voice as Alex says, "I really like you. I think I might actually be in love with ya if I'm being honest. But right now, I just really wanna fuck you."
Cheeks burning red, you can't-your voice stops working. Brain short circuiting as you look at Alex. Desire pooling in your belly. You're a horny uni student all over again. Not trusting yourself to speak. His body hovering above yours, caging you against the bed. You want nothing more than to reach out and bring him flush against your body.
You don't trust yourself to speak.
When you don't respond, Alex, jaw clenching, adds, "if ya don't feel the same way just tell me tah fuck right off. But I can't-I can't lie next to yah and pretend it don't mean a thing to me."
"What a coincidence," you finally manage, smiling softly up at him, so close you could just reach up and kiss him, "I like you a lot as well." It's in the top ten dumbest things you've ever said in your life. And the most english thing, to keep a stiff upper lip when you're literally laying under the man you haven't been able to stop thinking about.
"That's good," Alex notes, raising a brow. The little eager school boyish expression on his face making you giggle.
He shuts you up promptly, smothering your laugh with a deep kiss, so unlike all the other times he's kissed you. None of the hovering and hesitance, none of the stiffness in your body, as you reach up, wrapping your arms around his shoulders and pressing his body against yours, savoring the feel of him. His toned muscles shifting as he shifts against you.
It's hot and heavy, with a bruising intensity as Alex kisses you. You match him with the same passion, with all the pent up months of tension, of finally getting to show him how much you like him, how you've been thinking of him for weeks now. There's still sugar on his lips from the bubble tea you'd made him try, his tongue exploring your mouth as you moan into the kiss, fingers digging into his shoulders.
Alex's chest against yours.
His hand winding its way into your hair, keeping it out of your face as you kiss him. As you loose yourself in Alex. The entire world shrinking until it's just the two of you. And nothing else matters. His other hand running down your side. Fingertips brushing over the exposed skin above the waistband of your shorts, before shoving the fabric aside, his hand griping your side.
You kiss his lips, pulling his bottom lip between your teeth, leaving you both gasping for air. Eyes glazed over, raging wildly with want.
"I'm gonna fuck you love," Alex, whispers planting kisses down your neck, his fingers undoing the buttons of your shirt. "Show ya how crazy you've been driving me."
You nod, shakily, your gaze never leaving his, as your shirt falls back onto your shoulders, falls open.
Sam had been spot on, making you pack the nice parisian undergarments that had been at the back of your drawer abandoned. You'll have to buy her something really nice before you get back to the old smoke.
Alex pulls his own shirt off.
He shakes his head, smirking, "but you've got to say it love. Can't be the only one baring my soul here."
"You're baring more than your soul Alex," you tease, despite the hitch in your voice, revealing just how worked up you were feeling. But you indulge him, because you really want him. Your skin burning in anticipation of what comes next. "But right now I'm more interested in you fucking me."
Alex laughs, but there's no hiding the hoarseness in his voice.
Then sits up on his legs, trailing kisses down your chest, down you belly as he works your shorts down your legs, you tilting your hips up so he can leave you bare, taking your nice lingere along with the shorts. It was a shame too. They really were nice, lacy and racy, worth the trouble of wearing.
Your toes curl as Alex kisses the crook of your leg, your breath hitching as he prices open your legs, an easy move when you were all too willing to let him go down on you.
Alex presses a kiss to the inside of your thigh, his hand grasping the skin, all the while his other hand, his fingers brushed over your clit, dipping into your folds, into the wetness. Your eyes fluttering shut, a whimper escaping from your lips. "I wanna hear you love," Alex whispers against your skin, mouth moving teasingly close to your center. "Let me hear you."
You can't stifle the cry as he runs his tongue through your folds, maddeningly slow, before sucking on your clit long enough for your brain to short circuit. He doesn't let up, flicking his tongue against you, your breathe short as you whimper at his ministrations. His fingers digging into your skin.
You clutch at the covers, bunching them up in your palms.
Alex sucks at your clit, his hand brushing against your folds, before slipping a finger into your core, curling inside you.
You're on fire, skin hot. Eyes squeezed shut as you're overwhelmed with sensations, Alex's mouth against your center, breath tickling the skin, driving you crazier. The same mouth you'd kissed only moments ago.
He adds another finger, pumping his hand against your core, eliciting more whimpers and moans from your lips. The wetness in your core growing. The heat in your lower belly growing.
You can't take it. "Alex," you whimper. Bitting your lower lip. There's no way you'll last longer than a couple of seconds. All edged out.
"Come for me," he utters, as choked up as you feel, his fingers buried inside you as he shifts, pressing his lips against your collar bone, nipping the the skin. You let go, coming against his hand, and the feel of his skin against yours.
You're consumed by bliss. Left gasping for breath.
Boneless as Alex gets up, unbuttoning his tight dark jeans, but not before rifling through his wallet for a condom.
You can't be bothered to pay him much attention.
Knocks ring out against the door, loud and insistent. Knocks like light taps that don't stop, a fly in your ear.
Miles.
And sure enough, "foods here! Al and Als much better looking bird," he jokes stretching bird as long as the sounds will let him.
You prop yourself up on an elbow, wreaking your brain for a response as Alex freezes, clad in a pair of boxers, condom in hand. Utterly useless.
"Matt won't leave us any if we dally," Miles adds, laughter clear in his tone.
"Actually," you try, not sounding nearly as disheveled as you feel, as you are, "I think the jet lags caught up to me."
"Oh is it like that is it," Miles calls back, voice full of glee, "well let me know if yah need me. Three is a part-eh after all," he crackles.
You let out a breath in relief, glad to be left alone. Again.
Really you should've just stayed in LA. Or London.
You could've done this in either place, uninterrupted.
"Just focus on me love," Alex cuts in, make short work of getting your shirt the rest of the way off, kissing the corner of your mouth, knowing how easily you could get lost in your thoughts, like him.
All the easier to understand him.
He unhooks your bra, hands massaging your tits, the brush of his fingers hardening the peaks of your breasts, as he pressed his lips hard against yours. You eagerly kissed him back, softer than before, still ridiculously satisfied from before, your hands loose as they curled around his neck, letting him shift you both, letting him settle his weight between your legs, finally full naked. His hips hard against yours.
Your lips eager against his mouth, already yearning for another taste of him. Alex's hand threading through your hair, as he shifts, finding your core with his hard cock, entering you in one swift thrust.
You cry out into his mouth, you hand gripping his back. Your fingers finding their way into his hair. Soft despite the amount of product. Had to be expensive.
You hold him against you, loving finally having him the way you've refused to admit to yourself that you wanted. You've been wanting Alex for weeks now. All the parts of of. The man who got pissed drunk at a pub, the man who'd bring you take out and fold your blankets, the man who kissed you.
He breaks the kiss, nuzzling his lips against the crook of your neck, inbetween moans, your name on his tongue, as he thrusts deeply into you, filling you up to the brim, as you clench around him. "Yah feel so good love," he groans, heady with passion.
Alex's pace relentless, all pent up want, the frustration of spending nights curled up with you on settees and beds, never being able to do more than look.
He fucks you, his teeth nipping the delicate skin at the base of your throat.
You gasp for breath, moaning his name like a prayer on your lips, wondering how the bloody hell you had ended up here. How lucky you were to have ended up here.
His hips against yours, his body flush against your's as his thrusts become erratic.
Your fingers digging into the skin of his back, as he comes against you. You’re exhausted. Spent. A day traveling by plane. A drive that lasted the entire day, and now this. You-you're not sure where this leaves you, where you go from here. This isn't exactly a standard way of-this isn't friends to more or strangers hitting it off, but you don't care. You'll figure it out, along with Alex.
Alex who slumps over on his side, lying next to you, looking completely fucked.
"I ruined your hair," you smile, completely out of it yourself, unable to summon any bite.
Alex laughs, unabashedly, his entire demeanor taking on a boyish air, "for once I don't give a damn."
"Are you going to go get food," you ask, rolling over so you can rest your head on his chest.
"Don't particularly want to move. Debating getting up for a smoke though."
"Cool," you reply, letting your lids slid shut, "I'm going to go to sleep then."
"I take it ya not hungry," Alex smirks.
"There's always Mcdonald's. At 3 am."

Christmas in Paris
Welcome back my confused hearts!!!
Let’s get back to the story ! So, like I mentioned before, I was excited to go back again to Paris. I was even more excited at the fact that I will be able to spend Christmas and New Years Eve in the city of love. It was a special time, because J family is jewish. We spent an amazing time together and the New Years Eve went well. He showed me the Christams Market on Champs Elysees and we talked a lot about our future. In some point he said to me “I love you and I don’t want to be far away from you. Please, stay with me and find a job in Paris!”. I was shocked, scared and happy at the same time. So, what did I do? I went back to Warsaw, I found a girl on my place to rent the flat, I packed my bags and say bye to my BFFs.... Yes, I decided to do something totally crazy. It was the 1st of March 2017 when I moved to Paris. Honestly, it was not that easy. I didn’t speak the language, I was staying in J’s appartment with his whole family and I didn’t know anybody. The harsh reality hit me that in this amaizing city not a lot of people are speaking english. I started to send the resumes everywhere, but all the time I was getting a question “Can you speak french?”. Well, I know that it’s really bad to move to the country where you can’t speak in their language, so I am not trying to blame anyone but myself here. Finally, the local restaurant asked me to come and even without the knowledge they proposed me a “trial day”. Honestly, it was a disaster... It was really hard for me to understand anything what they were saying and this they was super busy. So many clients and only 1 other waitress besides of me. After the shift they said that they are missing few euros, so they took the whole tips that I got that day. They said goodbye to me and I have never heard from them again. Actually, I am very happy that they didn’t take me in. You could say that it was a destiny, because after this experience J told me to apply to UNIQLO, clothing brand. He told me that he is shopping there very often and sometimes he was talking to the sales assistants that could not speak french. So, I have it a try! Guess what, they called me and asked me to come for the interview! I was so excited! I went there without the preparation. I was wearing the casual clothes and I was feeling relaxed. When I entered the building I was so shocked. It was very big, elegant and there was a lot of people in elegant clothes waiting for the same interview. I was talking to myself “Stupid, stupid! Why you didn’t very something more serious?!”. Well, it was already too late haha So they asked me to enter a very small room and there was only one women that was very beautiful and had the most amazing hair. She looked like Charlie’s Angel. She started to talk to me in french. Of course I couldn’t speak french at that time, so I was just smiling a lot. In some point she asked me what languages I can speak. I said to her that I can speak english, polish and a little bit of vietnamese ( actually it was a lie, I can’t speak at all vietnamese). At the end she asked me if I can understand french. Well, of course I said “oui”. She looked at me and saying that this would be all. I was really scared and sad, but I was like “I will not give up! I came here to start a new life!”. I came back to J’s home and.... I got a call... “Congratulations! You were accepted to start working as sales assistant in our store. You will sign the contract on 21st of April.”. Guess what, it was all in french, so I didn’t understand anything what she was saying, but I was smart enough to record the whole conversation and say “oui” all the time. After the call I went to see J’s mom and when she heard the message she just told me “You got the job!”. I could feel in my soul that something big is going to happen.
To know more you need to stick with me a little bit longer and yes it will be BIG!!!
Sending a lot of love my confused hearts!
See you again soon!

While working on our Taiwan itinerary, I realized there aren’t as many available travel tips and guides online about the country, as there are for Hong Kong, Japan and Korea. So upon getting back from my trip, I figured I should let my experiences be learning grounds for your future travels here. And without further adieu, let me present to you Taiwan (or Taipei) in lists of tips, tricks, hits and misses.
Flight: AirAsia
Very cheap roundtrip flights from Manila to Taipei– PHP 3,000 without check-in baggage and PHP 5,000 with 20kg of check-in baggage. Both include (strictly) 7kg carry-on allowance. Travel tax excluded.
AirAsia flights to Taiwan is only once a day apparently. Took the 11:15 PM flight out and the 1:45 AM flight back to Manila.
One of my fastest check-ins ever, especially during departure. Finished everything in 15-20 minutes! Way less people compared to Cebu Pacific which had super long lines heading to Taipei at the same time.
Flight was comfy, and the plane was nice and clean. Leg room, as you can expect, is quite limited, such that when I’d cross my legs, my knees would hit the next seat.
No blankets for lending!!! You’d have to purchase their AirAsia-branded blankets at PHP 500. Not cool! Or should I say, too cool because I was nearly freezing?!
For in-flight meals, you have to pre-book them if you don’t want to take chances. Pretty cheap, at around PHP 150-200 a meal.
Weather in August: H-O-T!!!!
August is Taiwan’s hottest month. Clearly we didn’t research prior to booking! Can go as high as 38 degrees Celcius!
Recommendation: Don’t book in August so you can maximize your stay! We got tired too easily due to the debilitating heat.
Money
Their currency is New Taiwanese Dollar.
Conversion from NTD to PHP is 1.7.
For money exchange, you have to do it at the airport upon arrival or at the banks. They don’t have FOREX stalls everywhere like in Hong Kong. So carefully plan your exchange in advance.
For pocket money, average spend a day (given our itinerary — available upon request) would be at around PHP 3,000-4,000 excluding shopping.
Accommodation: Meander Hostel
Tumblr media
Definitely a place I’d recommend if you’re traveling on a budget! It’s a hostel but with private rooms.
Got the Triple Room with 1 queen bed and 1 double bed–comfy. Spacious enough. Looks new and clean. Has minimalist design.
Had troubles with the air conditioner–wouldn’t get cold enough for a day or two!
Shower area is more than sufficient, and heater works great! I could take showers for hours. Jk.
Total cost for 4 nights was at PHP 17,000 but thanks to Agoda Rewards, we got it for PHP 15,000. Just PHP 5,000 per head! So affordable!
No windows in the room; could use better lighting = Not very ideal for girls who spend a long time putting on makeup!!!!
Has a common room at the G/F. Very cozy and you can mingle with fellow travellers. You can also bring food and eat there. Has free-flowing water and wintermelon tea. Also coffee, milk tea, bread and fruits in the AM for breakfast.
Not allowed to bring outside shoes in. They give you slippers to use. Not sure if that’s hygienic but I think they sanitize it after every use. The upside is that you don’t have to bring your own slippers anymore.
Location is a-ok! Just 10 minutes away from Ximending on foot. You just have to walk one straight line/street so you won’t get lost. Also has nearby convenience stores.
Transporation
Tumblr media
From Taoyuan International Airport, we shared a cab going to our hostel since it was late already (2AM) and it was cost-effective given that we were 4 people.
Getting around is mostly thru their MRT which is super easy to understand. We didn’t have to buy stored value cards since buying single tickets was always a breeze. Never a line! MRT is also very clean and not so crowded.
Most frequented line is the blue line–Bannan. That’s where Ximen is located right smack at the middle. This is why I recommend you choose a hotel in Ximen, since it’s close to the many areas you’re likely to visit as a tourist.
Going back to airport, we asked help from our hostel and they booked us a 9-seater van for just NT 1700. Not bad! From Ximen to Taoyuan, we only took 40 minutes.
Advantages of Taiwan over Hong Kong
Much, much friendlier people.
Less fast-paced so you can travel more calmly.
Cleaner, especially the toilets!
Generally cheaper.
Shopping
For international clothing brands, they have H&M and Uniqlo in Ximending (more expensive though) and GU, Pull & Bear, ZARA, and Bershka in Taipei 101 area.
They also have the usual sports stores like adidas, Nike, New Balance, and Jordan  in Ximending, but I never entered. Hihi.
Speaking of Ximending, they say that’s Taipei’s counterpart of Myeongdong in Seoul. While I still managed to have fun (because I will always, always find a way to shop successfully), I recommend not expecting too much. I found that there aren’t as many interesting stores, and even their food offerings were underwhelming.
Highlight for me was the skincare variety. They have super cheap sheet masks, so better hoard! Go for 86 Shop and Paris Strawberry, as they have better pricing. More on this here.
For Taiwanese delicacies (pasalubong alert!), buy from the corner/semi-hidden stores that don’t look fancy. The well-lit and nicer-looking ones have higher prices. For instance, I got salty yolk cookies for just NT 120 a pack while at the better-looking stores, they were selling it to me for NT 180. Nonetheless, they all provide free tastes so you can make sure the goodies are yummy before you buy them!
Re: Supermarkets, I’m not sure if I was just blind but there weren’t so many. I only found Jason’s Marketplace in Taipei 101 and in Ximending (near Exit 1 of Ximen Station). My favorite purchases were the frozen fried rice–huge variety (salmon, sausage, hawaiian, kimchi, smoked pork, etc.) and super cheap (NT 48–definitely more affordable than the Spam kimchi fried rice packs in Korea). Note: Put in carry-on because it’s not allowed for check-in baggage.
Food
Gudetama Cafe in Zhongxiao Dunhua is super cute! But, food could be better. I say don’t go there starving. Just get snacks or desserts there for Instagram purposes. Do note that you have to reserve in advance. I did thru eztable.com, and they require advanced consumable payment of NT 200 per head.
Yong Kang Street has a lot of restaurants and stalls you can try out: Scallion Pancakes (yum!), Smoothie House (line too long), etc. They also have the first ever Din Tai Fung there but waiting time is usually about 45 – 75 minutes. Personally, I find that it tastes the same as those in HK and SG, and nothing more.
Tumblr media
Mala Hotpot!!!! Best hotpot buffet ever!!!! Their beef cuts are so generous, premium and lean! Soup tastes heavenly! They also have unlimited Haagen-Dazs ice cream with about 12 flavors. Unlimited canned drinks, too, and free-flowing coffee and tea. YUM YUM YUM! Per head: NT 598 for lunch and NT 698 for dinner and weekends. Note: Must call ahead of time for reservation.
Chose Raohe Night Market over Shi Lin because they say it’s less crowded there. Didn’t regret it. Place isn’t packed, and has good variety of food stalls. Do come with friends though so you can share food and try a lot of different things. My faves from there include the Walking Steak Cup and the big-ass chicken. Oh and the candied strawberry, too, for dessert!
7-Eleven is also close to my heart because they have this microwavable packed Spicy Chicken similar to KFC’s Hotshots that taste so yummy! Also very cheap at NT 38 if I remember correctly.
Mos Burger (originally from Japan) is also
Tumblr media
Milk tea!!! If you’re not watching your sugar and dairy intake closely, go all out!
Attractions
Taipei 101 is a must-visit because it’s a key attraction in Taipei. It also has many stores from fashion to food. The Observatory is another thing. You pay about PHP 800 and the lines are excruciatingly long (maybe because we went on a weekend) and the view is meh. The outdoor viewing was also closed when we visited so that added to our disappointment.
Tumblr media
Visited Huashan 1914 Creative Park for the “Hello My Name is Paul Smith” exhibit. I found that it was a breath of fresh air from the usual Taipei scene. Very artsy place! The exhibit was funky and colorful as expected. You’d leave the place with very nice pictures for sure. The entrance fee is not bad either at NT 280 for foreign visitors, and exhibit is set to run until September 3, 2017 only. [Note: Clearly, I published this too late.)
Joined KKday’s Day Tour from Taipei at USD 33 each, inclusive of bus transfers starting from Taipei Main Station but exclusive of entrance fees and food:
First stop: Yehliu Geopark for the rock formations. Very unique but also very hot. Remember to wear sunscreen–we forgot!!! Good thing this was first in the agenda, otherwise we’d have no energy to go around given the vast place and the hell-like heat!
Tumblr media
Commercial: Be wary of the time. If tour guide says meeting time is at 11:00, she really means it. Otherwise, you’d get left behind just like our friend. Hahaha! It’s funny now but it was stressful at the time it was happening.
Second stop: Shifen Old Street for the lantern flying and lunch! For the lanterns, you can buy based on what you wish for (i.e. Wealth, Marriage, Happiness, and the like) and they cost at NT 200 a piece. You also get to write and draw your wishes on it usng a chinese pen (mopit), and take photos/videos as you let it go up in the air. They do this along the railway. As for the food part, I say it’s one of the best! We had Yakult slushie, barbecued chicken wing with rice inside, fried cuttlefish, and peanut ice cream roll. Gooda gooda in mah belly! ❤
Tumblr media
Third stop: Shifen Waterfalls — underwhelming to be honest! I don’t know, maybe we were exhausted at this point but walking all the way to the falls didn’t feel worth it. It was smaller in person than in the photos. 😦
Tumblr media
Fourth stop: Jiufen. If you’re a fan of the movie Spirited Away, be sure to visit! But if not, I honestly didn’t find it that interesting. It’s just an old alley that’s uphill–so many steps. We kept grumpling because we were so tired and sweaty and I was having allergies from my sweat and sunburn from Yehliu. We wondered how come the oldies have more energy than us. Hahaha! Highlight: Cute cat shops. There are about three!
Things I’d Do If/When I Go Back
Elephant Mountain because a pretty Canadian girl we met at the hostel recommended it for its view — you can see Taipei skyline including Taipei 101; I realize the skyline is only nice when the tower is in sight.
Cat Village because nobody wanted to go with me 😦
Mala Hotpot because it’s the bestest!
Meander Hostel because I miss their sofa :))
National Palace Museum because the hostel people said it has interesting treasures from China. Hmmmmm.
IKEA because apparently Taiwan has one!
Ichiran because apparently they just opened there, and we were plain oblivious.
[Long Overdue Post] A Roundup of My Taipei Trip While working on our Taiwan itinerary, I realized there aren't as many available travel tips and guides online about the country, as there are for Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.

Life as a Runway: What Do Twitter Employees in New York Wear to Work?
Tumblr media
Twitter may be besieged with controversies over inaccurate news, hate speech and harassment, but its Manhattan offices on West 17th Street are a study in sunny civility.
On a recent Thursday, the 400 so-called tweeps who work there were dining on Indian food in the bright cafeteria, with its Big Buck Hunter arcade game and Ping-Pong table. Others were pecking away on their sticker-covered laptops. And with the average age hovering around 30, there seems to be less and less separating street clothes from office wear.

Age: 30
Occupation: lead partner manager
How do you dress for work?
I have influences from the different places I’ve lived: born and raised in Miami; went out to San Francisco for five years; then New York.
You don’t look so much Miami.
I have the black V-neck below the sweatshirt. Also I’d say my Air Force 1’s are Miami. Though they’re also a bit New York. Black. Like the jeans.
What about the sweatshirt?
The sweatshirt is comfort. It’s a hoodie from Outdoor Voices. I could wear it after work, at work.
With an Apple Watch.
Honestly, I have a watch my father gave me, a Breitling, which I love. But I’ve been using my Apple Watch for the fitness aspect.
You look fit.
I’m able to track my family and see how they’re doing. We get competitive.

Those sleeves! Are you about to fly away?
Literally. I’m a huge fan of an all-black look. There’s so much you can do with it. And this has a lot of personality and is sheer and very witchy.
What draws you to witchy things?
Alexander McQueen loved to design for very powerful women, who can be seen as bold or dangerous. And that defines a lot of the things that attract me. But I’m not a witch.
Tell me about your black jeans.
I’m not actually a huge jean fan. I don’t own that many. But you need a pair of black jeans. It can be the foundation of a great outfit. Like the way you need a little black dress.
What’s the attraction to an all-black outfit?
Monochrome you can either do very well or it can be very boring. To be able to communicate your identity through a black palette is pretty incredible.
Joanna Geary
Age: 38
Occupation: director of curation
Tell me about your hair color.
I like the idea that if you’re going to have to be a grown-up, making grown-up decisions, you can also have some fun with things like bright pink hair.
Vintage belt?
Vintage. I have a mild obsession with ouroboros — the snake is eating itself but also birthing itself. The idea of self-criticism and self-improvement.
You’re wearing a lot of black.
I wear a lot of black. Always. I used to wear a lot of color. As the hair got brighter, the clothes got darker.
Has your style changed since you began dressing maternity?
I’ve been trying really hard to make sure it hasn’t. I’m lucky that many of my clothes have the benefit of Lycra.

So many stickers on your laptop.
When I got here, I noticed a lot of tweeps like to trick out their laptops.
Excuse me, did you say “tweeps”?
Yes. That’s what we call Twitter employees.
Your T-shirt is what I would call “high visibility.”
The T-shirt and pants are both Polo, a nod to my previous job at Ralph Lauren. The pants I love because they’re kind of absurd.
I don’t think they’re absurd. Wide-leg pants are very much in style.
For me, they’re pleated, they’re baggy, and they’re not hemmed, so it’s everything guys were told not to do to their pants. Hopefully it’s so wrong that it’s right.
You’re wearing beaded bracelets like you’re at summer camp.
This spike is Giles and Brother. I got it for my partner on our 10th anniversary. But I just did that as a ploy. I wear it more than he does.
Xiomara Davila
Age: 28
Occupation: account manager
I like your overalls.
Jeans are so stiff. I got this at a thrift shop in Cranford, New Jersey.
Aren’t you worried, with a sweater under your overalls, that you’ll overheat?
I’m hot right now.
Your earring goes the length of your ear.
It’s actually not an extra piercing or anything, it’s just a hook to the top of my ear.
Clearly Twitter is a tattoo-friendly office.
This is the Millennium Falcon. One of my cousins passed away two years ago, and he was the biggest Star Wars nerd I can think of. When he passed, my whole family got different Star Wars tattoos.
That’s a lovely story. May the force be with you.
You too.

Strong bracelet game.
I got the black one from Curated Basics, at Artists and Fleas on 10th Avenue. My parents are from West Africa, so I’m into leathers and this bracelet is an homage to my mom, with the coordinates of where we buried her.
That’s really sweet. Your ring is huge.
I went to Morehouse College. I’m really proud that I’m the second person in my family to go to a four-year college.
Comme des Garçons T-shirt, but with a cardigan.
It’s a little New Age-y, but also it gets a little cold in the office. I like Comme des’ aesthetic. It’s a little creepy and a little fun. I don’t wear a lot of colors so I really have to experiment with patterns.
Who makes your watch?
Mondaine. This is not super-expensive. Understated. I’m a big watch person, because of my grandfather. He liked the complication of it and the statement. My mom always wore watches. I can’t leave the house without a watch on my wrist. I feel lost. I’m a prisoner of time.
Daney Rivera
Age: 27
Occupation: I.T. support engineer
Are you one of those mean I.T. people?
I try to make it as welcoming as possible. I try not to be a jerk.
Are those gauges in your ear?
I used to have way bigger gauges. They got really gross and smelly, but I’ve slimmed them down.
Why clear glasses?
To be totally honest, a year had gone by and I hadn’t used my insurance. I got $200 off, so I went crazy. They’re Nike.
Like everyone else here, you’re wearing black jeans.
Every day. They’re slimming. In fact, I just donated the rest of my blue jeans.
The shoes. You’re basically a Nike commercial.
I wear Adidas, too. I got these for myself for my birthday. They’re custom Air Max. They say “Game Over” on the back. I’m a super-gamer.
Mike Park
Age: 42
Occupation: Vice president of publisher products
You’re in shades of gray.
I’m graying, I have a very gray beard, and my wife wears gray and we dress our son in gray. I don’t know why.
You sound like the world’s most depressing family.
It’s just happened. We’ve just adopted gray as our color.
How do you decide what to wear each morning?
I have two pairs of jeans: black and gray. And then always a button-down, where you can actually button down the collar.
Where is the shirt from?
Uniqlo. It’s a little bit baggier than I prefer, but it’s comfortable.
You mentioned that your doctor made you wear those shoes.
I had a stress fracture. The doctor literally just wrote down the name of a shoe: Hoka One One Bondi 6. He said, “Wear this for six weeks and you’ll get better.” They looked like Yeezys or something.

This is a long post because I went on a few rants, but there are workouts and stuff in there, I promise ;) stay tuned for commentary on vanity sizing and non-scale victories!
April 13 Thursday’s workout was super speedy. Legs and a quick stretching NTC workout. I meant to do curtsy lunges to finish it out, but I was crunched for time and my legs were already burning from the seasaw lunges and step-ups because my bench was higher than a normal one would be. I always get kind of frustrated when my NTC workout ends up being a lowkey stretching one, because I use it to replace cardio for the day. I’m starting to think I should either do more than one or just do cardio anyway. At least I got in a nice half hour walk at lunch; it was much colder than I was expecting since the rest of this week has been so nice! Still pretty out tho. And my skull shirt is badass. The end.
Went to Whole Foods with Ani when I got home to get some goodies for the weekend, and really stuck to my list (which I was proud of, bc that store is a literal TRAP) which included chocolate milk as a post-workout fuel… ASK ME HOW HYPE I AM TO START DRINKING CHOCO MILK AGAIN!!! (very. obviously.) Also started growing a mini protein bar collection because now I’m terrified of not properly fueling post-workout, so now I’m going to have very little excuse not to, since these babies are extremely portable. Just throw one in ya workout bag, and there you go. Don’t even have to remember to get it from my lunch box. I’m finally trying RXBAR and a few Quest Bar flavors (shoutout to @runningwhilenotdying for the suggestion, ty girl!) for now, in addition to the Luna Protein bars I still have. Still going to have to try a few to find out which works best for me.
Legs / butt workout 3x each 15 reps weighted glute bridges, 10# 15 reps goblet squats, 10# 20 reps step ups, alt. sides, 10# 20 reps seasaw lunges, alt. sides 15 reps weighted lying leg curls, 6# 40 s wall sits 10 reps burpee + high jump alternating leg swing stretches instead of curtsy lunges bc I’m a wimpy bitch lol
Listening to: “Under You” by Nick Jonas
April 14 Today is the day John Mayer’s full album is out, something I realized halfway through Friday morning while working from home, so I blasted the FUCK out of it in my apartment and haven’t stopped listening since. Ani took the day off, so it was just me at home designing, which is literally what I wish every work day of my life could be. Making my own schedule, eating and working out whenever I want and not having to worry about when I’m going to finish, not having to talk to people lol.
I decided to workout around 11ish and had to do arms / upper body without weights, which was a bit challenging considering my weak wrists and lack of free weights. BUT I made it, and my wrists weren’t ded afterwards, so I guess I’m building up some strength? Plus check out my schweaty knees, aren’t they purty? It was a dec workout, so hype it. HOWEVER, in the middle of my last set, this awful ringing started in my apartment, which I identified as the fire alarm after panicking for like 2 seconds. Then there was this weirdo announcement in our hallway as if we were in a damn dorm, saying to evacuate asap so I was like o fuck ok let me get my things. Ran outside with my purse and a jacket, ran into the woman who legit hates me and Ani for being loud on the weekend two whole times (fuck her tho it was a Friday and Saturday at like 11pm get your panties out of your ass amirite) and she was like idk what’s going on I’m probably not going downstairs. I was like ????? um if there’s a fire I’m not dying so bye. So I ran down 8 flights of stairs to find no one in the lobby. Sick. It was a false. Alarm. Bc they’re doing construction right in front of the elevators. Motherfuckers. So I had to go back up 8 flights of stairs once I got the approval from the doorman. Thx for the cardio break, how’d you know I needed that? 🙄 Finished my set, worked for a bit longer, then showered and decided I was done working for the day lol.
It was pay day and I was bored so I kinda went a little nuts on a shopping trip. As usual, I mostly bought athleisure, buuuuuuuuuuut there are some significant things about this shopping trip that I must share.
1: I willingly purchased two pairs of athletic shorts. I do not wear anything but leggings to workout in, because I hate the way my legs look, and I usually feel much more mobile and flexible in leggings, even if it’s like 90 degrees out and July. But I tried on two pairs of black shorts, and could actually see myself not only wearing them like to bed, but like… doing active things in them, and being ok with seeing my legs. First #NONSCALEVICTORY o the day.
2: I not only willingly tried on a one piece bathing suit, I tried on two, AND I purchased one. Every person alive knows too well the personal torture of trying on bathing suits, especially in dressing rooms that have awful fluorescent lighting that does not flatter anyone. But for some reason I was in a good mood about my bod (perhaps after the shorts win), so I grabbed two suits and said to myself, fuck it, don’t feel bad about yourself, but do not get your hopes up. This could go great, or it could not. Don’t let this be a reflection of how hard you’ve been working. It might just not fit, that’s not your fault. BUT THEY BOTH FIT REALLY DECENTLY OK. The one was like bright red and v scandalous and tbh I did not have the boobs to fill out that sucker. So despite it fitting ok, I couldn’t go with it. But the other was stripey and rouchey and pretty comfortable, so I was like welp. I need at least one suit for the summer, and can’t picture myself using any of the ones from last summer, and I don’t feel like total crap in this. So. I bought it!
3: I purchased at least one thing of every size (S, M, L, and XL), which proves that sizing is fake and literally doesn’t fucking matter. I like all my tops a little baggy and all of my bottoms tight (except those shorts I ended up getting, but who knew I would even buy shorts…). That’s just my personal preference style-wise. I went to four different stores, and ended up getting clothing that fit me, but when I was ripping the tags off when I got home, I noticed that all the sizes were different. I bought a shirt from Uniqlo (AMAZING STORE, btw, never been before today) that was a size small, which is something I haven’t done in like literally maybe 7-8 years. I also bought a cropped sweatshirt from Marshall’s in XL, even though I thought it was a large when I bought it. Either way, it’s not like my body morphed mid-shopping trip. I was the same size all day, but the stores decided I was all over the place. This just makes me a, hate the fashion industry for forcing this imaginary 00 system and ideals of size-shaming on us, but also b, feel better about myself because I know that I can’t be reliant on just being one size. I used to think of my weightloss in terms of pants sizes. Like last Friday when I was wearing actual pants, they were 12s. But like. A 12 at one store could be a 16 at another, or an 8. I used to say, oh I just want to be down to a consistent 8. That would be the perfect amount of weight to lose. If I get there, I’ll know that I’m good. But I’m really starting to see that that number and that size doesn’t exist. There is no universe in which an 8 at every store will fit the same. So judging yourself on a system that’s literally impossible to fit into is just a recipe for hurt and shame. So now I’m just gonna grab any size that looks like it’ll fit. It’s still not fun to see a higher number, but that’s going to be a mindset I have to get myself out of, and this post is proof that it doesn’t matter. I want to base my happiness with my fitness on phyiscal progress: what I can DO with my body, not just how it looks in the clothes I inevitably have to wear. But today, for a few reasons, I felt really good, and I’m proud to have seen not only one, but a few non-scale wins. Hype it the FUCK up.
Whew. That was a lot, sorry. I almost feel like a doing a ~haul~ like I’m on some fashion youtube channel, I bought so many fun things. But whatever, I doubt anyone cares about that except me lolol.
Honestly sometimes I think I just like to buy some things because I’m happy they fit me, not because I need them or are in love with them. Is that weird? I feel like I’m a pretty specific shape (very short and curvy, but not curvy everywhere), so when I find something I actually think fits me, I usually just say, yeah I’ll wear this. I definitely am spending too much money that way, but it’s nice to feel like a lot of things are fitting me well for once.
Arms / upper body workout 3x each 20 reps shoulder taps, alt. sides 10 reps pushups 20 reps walk outs + twist, alt. sides 10 reps tricep dips 50 reps arm circles forward 50 reps arm circles backward 20 reps lat pull downs + shoulder squeeze 35s, 40s, 45s plank 10 reps decline push ups 10 reps burpee + high jump + 5 jumping jacks PLUS 8 flights of stairs when my fucking fire alarm went off and the elevator didn’t work 🙃
Listening to: “Burlesque” by Christina Aguilera OR the Voices in Your Head a cappella version, both are fun
April 15 I was hella nervous for my run today; 6 miles seemed like a lot to me, and after last week’s long run on the treadmill, it had been a while since I’d done a long one outside. The last time I finished a long run outside, I felt like death. So this time I wanted to be really prepared; I read some articles and youtube videos on how to run longer without like dying, and made sure to focus on my breathing and warmup. Once I left my apartment, I didn’t start my timed run for about 10ish minutes but still ran slow to get my legs ready. Then I did some of the moves from the videos, and set off. Today I went towards the art museum and Kelly Drive for the first time, which was definitely busy for a Saturday morning, but it was kinda gray out and mid-50s which is like perfect running weather. I felt really good for like literally the whole run, and I couldn’t tell if it was the new place, good music, or what, but I was surprised at how quickly the miles came and went. I stopped at 4.56 miles to take the picture in front of the art museum, walked briskly up the hill to the building, then ran the rest of the way on the rest of the Schuykill River Trail and back towards home. I finished a little ways away from home and was inspired by a boy who seemed to be blind or albino who was running with a small leash with a girl, and continued jogging all the way home. So I really totalled something like 7.10 miles and they felt GREAT which is INSANE for me. Like that’s so many miles. And I haven’t run that far in so long, and they actually felt GOOD??? Like who am I?
I rewarded myself with a cinnamon roll protein shake, a little more shopping (I ended up getting the black Nike Tanjuns for anyone who saw my post last night lol), and Chick-Fil-A nuggets for lunch. Was considering making this day a cheat day when I saw the Chick-Fil-A, but I was good and only got the nuggets. My resolve was tested when I saw a girl with a Rita’s cup right when I got home and I wanted to be like OMG GIRL WHERE IS THERE A RITA’s AROUND HERE???!??! But clearly I held myself back.
Guess that means more Easter chocolate for me tomorrow hayyyyyy

Alexander McQueen loved to design for very powerful women, who can be seen as bold or dangerous. And that defines a lot of the things that attract me. But I’m not a witch.
Tell me about your black jeans.
I’m not actually a huge jean fan. I don’t own that many. But you need a pair of black jeans. It can be the foundation of a great outfit. Like the way you need a little black dress.
What’s the attraction to an all-black outfit?
Monochrome you can either do very well or it can be very boring. To be able to communicate your identity through a black palette is pretty incredible.

Here"s What Happens When You Let Your Girlfriend Dress You For A Week
March 22, 2017

I should put it out there that I’m not a bad dresser. At least, I don’t think I am? I will, however, admit that I dressed terribly from birth until, like, five years ago. Seriously, not a day would go by where I wouldn’t drape myself in some kind of godawful, oversized plaid number. Because of this, I’ve learned to seriously tone down my wardrobe and dress in colors (and sizes) that actually don’t make me look like the bottom half of a Scottish dude.
So, at almost thirty, I’d like to believe that I’ve got this whole fashion thing relatively down, so when the idea came up to let my arguably-more-fashionable girlfriend choose my outfit for a week, I thought: Sure. What could possibly go wrong?   While I’m proud to report that I didn’t die or get sucked into some kind of fabric-lined black hole, I will say that the results were surprising. Surprising because I:
a) Ended up feeling very confident about the clothes that were chosen for me
b) Started questioning whether or not I was, in fact, the fashion icon I assumed I was.
Here’s what happened.
Monday
Monday was cold and cloudy — plus, as I just mentioned, it was f*cking Monday. I typically take the day after the weekend to dress well, you know, as a kind of “I’m back from staying inside all weekend and this is what I’ve been up to!”   What I would’ve worn   During this tumultuous and experimental week, I decided to log what I was going to wear and compare it with the clothes my darling partner chose for me. On Monday, I decided I would’ve gone with a perfectly drab Uniqlo-heavy outfit. Blue oxford shirt, grey cashmere v-neck, and dark skinny jeans from Topman. Easy.   What she chose   I also decided to keep my outfits a secret to see how much overlap there was with her choices. Monday proved to have minimal overlapping, as she chose Topman skinnies (I have a half dozen of these), a white t-shirt, and this Yosemite Valley View Fleece Sweatshirt that I got a few months back. I hadn’t worn this in quite some time because it was stuffed in the back of my closet, but she chose it on the grounds that it “made my arms look nice.” She finished the outfit with my Henry London watch and a pair of Nikes that I probably would’ve overlooked for a pair of boots. I liked Monday’s outfit — it made me feel like a buff mountain man.

Henry London Knightsbridge Watch, $135.00 at Henry-London.com
Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski, $85.00 at Zappos.com
Tuesday
Tuesday came along as effortlessly as Monday and presented the same kind of dreary weather. It’s hard dressing well when it’s cruddy out, because there’s just so much layering.
What I would’ve worn   Coming off the success of Monday’s sweatshirt, I decided I was in the mood to keep it going. I was planning on this gingham Jaspe shirt from J. Crew that I always thought was too big for me and a ribbed grey cardigan from Uniqlo over it. But my girlfriend had a different idea of what the day was going to look like.
J.Crew Jaspé Cotton Shirt, $69.50 at JCrew.com
UNIQLO Milano Ribbed V-Neck, $29.90 at Uniqlo.com
What she chose   My Mack Weldon French Terry crew with dark blue Levi’s. Nailed it. Honestly, Mack Weldon’s stuff is new-ish to me, but I’m loving their stuff more and more every day. The crew is a perfect fit and can be worn on both warm and cold days… provided you layer correctly. On warmer days, I wear it without anything over it and am happy as a clam. I also own this in a darker blue color that makes me feel like a real intellectual — I can’t really explain why.   Now, the creme de la creme came with the addition of the Original Quarter Century Jacket. I’ve always loved this jacket, because it fits wonderfully and is incredibly warm without turning my body into a furnace. I love the cut and the material — this thing could get through a hurricane. The combination of the jacket with the sweatshirt made me look good. Like, really, really good. Everything complemented each other piece in a way that made you think it was all made together in the same factory. I was pumped on how I looked and I thought I got a few stray stares on the street — but I’ve always been kinda vain.

Wednesday
Wednesday was a little bit warmer, but a little rainy. This actually made for the perfect day to see what my girlfriend would do in the face of precipitation.   What I would’ve worn   Man, forget looking good when it’s rainy. All sense goes out the window when it’s raining, and all I wear is hoodies. I think I was going to go for my joggers and an “I <3 New York” shirt I bought from JFK Airport. I really wasn’t feeling the day, so I couldn’t fathom how she had the energy to pick both mine and her outfit.   What she chose   Because it was warmer, she seemed confident in thinking I wouldn’t freeze to death in only a Burton sweatshirt and, uh, yeah she was right. She added in some navy Topman skinny pants for good measure and topped me off with the ONU Men’s Breathable rain shell. I don’t know if you guys have heard of ONU before, but they make a jacket that is, like, impenetrable to the elements. Seriously, I’ve never worn a rain jacket that doesn’t get soaked through and I was really impressed she managed to fish this out of the closet.
I was also planning to wear my Bean boots, but she convinced me to put on a pair of Thursday boots. This made me look and feel a little like Richard Dreyfus’s character from Jaws and that’s not a bad thing. I should mention, too, that she said my AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane would pair well with my Burton shirt and holy crap she wasn’t kidding. I think this watch (as opposed to the Seiko 5 I was going to wear) worked extremely well with the outfit.
Burton Classic Mountain Crew, $37.46 at Burton.com
ONU Breathable Rain Shell, $495.00 at ONU.is
Thursday President Boots, $199.00 at ThursdayBoots.com
AVI-8 Hawker Hurricane, $260.00 at Nordstrom.com
Thursday
I think I dress badly when it’s nice outside — there’s something about the earth’s sun that makes me feel like some kind of invincible entity from Krypton.   What I would’ve worn   I guess my style, when it’s warm out, is something along the lines of a young John F. Kennedy spliced with Michael Pitt from Funny Games. I was so ready to be disappointed to not be wearing my striped crewneck from J. Crew.
J.Crew Textured Cotton Crewneck, $104.50 at JCrew.com
What she chose   I truly realized she was the one for me when I saw her pull the very same striped crewneck from J. Crew out of my dresser. It was fate + serendipity + the fact that I don’t own too many t-shirts. I was on cloud 9. Where I would’ve gone with a boring Levi’s jean jacket or the Bullet x Noble Denim jacket I’ve been waiting months to wear, she had a different idea: a thrift store leather jacket that I’ve owned for years. While I was excited at first, I ended up being way too warm in the jacket. This is really the only time I wasn’t in to what she chose.   She did, however, strike gold with the watch game by putting my Vincero Chrono S into the mix. This is a solid watch that I typically wear with Oxford shirts, but I found that it went effortlessly with the outfit and made me feel like some kind of boss-type guy.   The shoe choice was another aspect of the day we disagreed on. I wanted to wear my Sperry boat shoes (because, again, I am a character from The Purge) but she insisted upon my classic white Vans. Can’t win ‘em all.
Bulleit x Noble Denim Jacket, $285.00 at NobleDenim.com
Vincero Chrono S, $149.00 at VinceroCollective.com
Friday
The last day of the week was, perhaps, the most crucial, as I would be wearing this outfit to work and then to a drinks meeting with some prospective clients. We both knew I wanted to look fashionably professional (or professionally fashionable?) and she managed to kill it with her choices.   What I would’ve worn   Admittedly, I always overdo it with dressing up. I overthink the whole thing and usually end up looking like I’m trying to dress up. So, I was going to go with a grey blazer from Uniqlo paired with one of their nondescript blue oxford shirts and dark skinny jeans.   What she chose   I was surprised to hear that she didn’t like my go-to grey blazer. “It makes you look too skinny,” she said, obviously not knowing those words were music to my ear. What she ended up bestowing upon me was an outfit combination that I will undoubtedly be wearing every time I want to be fancy. She started with a dark blue gingham shirt from Mizzen + Main topped with a thin grey sweater that I’ve had since college. On top of that she went dark and made me wear a navy blazer that actually came from Jackthreads.com   I admit, her choosing dark blue jeans scared me into thinking that I was too dark, but it wasn’t until she suggested these friggin’ awesome tan Beckett Simonon loafers that it all came together. This outfit was incredible and, most importantly, versatile. I took the jacket and cardigan off at work and still felt like a boss.
Mizzen + Main Dark Blue Gingham Shirt, $125.00 at MizzenAndMain.com
Jack Threads Navy Knit Blazer, $125.00 at JackThreads.com
Beckett Simonon Cohen Loafer, $189.00 at BeckettSimonon.com
Conclusion
While there weren’t many days of overlap between my choices and hers, I still felt like my lovely girlfriend and I were on the same page more often than not. We both know what I look good and bad in and what which articles of clothing will work with in an outfit. I felt as confident as I usually do — with the exception of Tuesday’s super confident streak — and thoroughly enjoyed the way my body looked in every mirror I passed.   The big question is: am I going to ask her opinion every day now that I know she holds this power? Ha! Yes. Seriously, yes.

Wow so it’s only Day 4 of my Shopping Fast and it’s been difficult to say the least.  I’ve found myself doing a lot of internet window shopping and envisioning myself with new stuff every couple hours or so.  I didn’t realize how bad I had it to be honest.  To help control myself and keep track of the things I REALLY want..I thought I’d compile the a list here.
I’m almost tempted to only allow myself to buy things that are just off this list to better control my spending and really keep myself aware of what I want.  I’ll keep you posted on that idea, I’m not quite sure I want to commit to that just yet since I’m only just beginning this shopping fast. Anyways without any further delay, here are my top items!
Wish List
Jamie + The Jones Pocket Box Tee
Ever since discovering Jame + The Jones last May, I’ve been smitten! The shirt I keep going back to is the Pocket Box Tee.  I’ve always been a fan of boxy shirts and one that’s not so form fitting is exactly what I’ve been looking for.  The olive color is divine and the fact that the model is close to my size in height also helps me get an idea of how exactly this would look on me.   Made ethically and 100% raw silk…I mean what’s not to love?  I just need to decide between olive or blush.
Jame + The Jones T Top
Anther shirt from Jamie + The Jones that I’ve fallen in love with. I feel that the T Top would be super comfortable but still appropriate for work depending on how you wear it.  Though I already own a boxy black shirt that kinda looks like this (Uniqlo), it doesn’t fall on the body in the same way as the T Top does for that perfect slouchy look.
Elizabeth Suzann Georgia Tee
Ah…yes another “tee”.  This one has been on my list even longer than the Jamie + The Jones shirts.  Reasons why I haven’t purchased this one yet is mostly because of the price (the other shirts are just as expensive though haha) and also I can’t decide on a color I want.  I LOVE THIS TEE and it would look amazing with some matching colored pants.  Every time I see this styled by some of my favorite bloggers I swoon for it but I can’t decide between black, flax or ivory.  It’s completely frustrating because I know if I get it in a lighter color I’ll get it dirty for sure and with it costing so much it seems like it might just collect dust in my closet because I’ll be too afraid to wear it.  This is something I hate and am always trying to avoid…so black seems like a better option but then I think it would be dumb to get the T Top in black as well…maybe I’ll just go with navy to switch it up haha. Any advice would be extremely helpful because this might be my first purchase off this list if I can actually decide haha.
Elizabeth Suzann Clyde Work Pant
More than the shirts, the Clyde Work Pants have been on my radar forever.  Not only do they have a stretch waistband but they have deep pockets and both of those are extremely important to me.  I’m sorry but what the hell is with making pants that only have enough space to hold a few flat quarters??  Do people not realize how important pockets are or..?  I’m also all about a stretchy waistband..I’m not sure if it’s because lately I’ve put on a few pounds and all my fitted pants seem to make me feel like I’m busting out of them or if I just hate any sort of tight feeling around my stomach..but fitted pants are not my jam these days.  The clyde work pants look flattering on most figures and with the Georgia Tee in any color I know I would feel stylin and chick.
Everlane Go Weave Sleeveless V-Neck Dress
So yeah…another black dress. I feel like if my wardrobe was restricted to only one thing, black dresses would be it. So far I own two Kowtow black dresses that I love and one other black dress that I bought for my work’s end of the year party that I’m regretting buying now because it really isn’t my style but also one of my male asshole co-workers gave me a look up and down and called me fat at said party so since then, I can’t even look at the dress.  This one is a bit more fitted but I really like how it’s slimming but also kinda boxy and angular at the same time.
Everlane Modern Point
I’ve been wanting a shoe that works well for work business trips but also can be styled casually with skinny jeans.  In November, I bought some cheap pointed oxfords and I’m pissed I didn’t wait to buy these or some other better made shoes since my November ones are already worn out.  I guess you live and learn right?
Vintage Jurassic Park Tee
Haha this is random but I’ve been wanting a Jurassic Park Tee for ages now.  I probably could easily find this on Amazon but I worry that the materials wouldn’t last and it probably wouldn’t be made ethically. Honestly, I’ve just searching for this in recycle / vintage shops for the past year or so but still haven’t found it.  I think if I find one I may have it cropped or leave as is depending on the size. If any of you see a jurassic park tee at a thrift store get it for meeee!  (Size L unless it’s a tent, because boobs)
Matching Two-Piece or Romper
A matching two piece and or romper have been on my list for a long time but I can never find a piece that looks flattering on my body.  I really love the matching two pieces I’ve been seeing lately but I feel like since I’m not slim it may not look as good as it does on others.  Not only that but a lot of rompers are fitted for people with zero boobage so that’s another issue I’ve been dealing with.  I’d love to find something like the pictures above for summer though.  Maybe someday… *sigh* (pictures are from Tobi, but as they aren’t exactly ethical, I don’t think I’ll be shopping there but wow that top black romper is simply adorable).
Simple Slides
As you can already tell, my mind is on summer already.  I only have one pair of flip flops  (Rainbows that need to be scrubbed down lol) and a pair of four inch platform sandals that aren’t really meant for all day wear. I realize that I need to get at least one more pair of sandals or slides so I can have a few more shoe options for summer.  I’m more or so a sneaker kinda girl so I have like four pairs…whoops. I really like these Anne slides in cognac from Deux Mains. I found these a few months ago but still have been thinking about them so it must mean I really want them.
That’s all for clothes and most of these have been the top clothing items on my list for 10+ months now so I feel that they are here to stay until I purchase them.   I sadly also have been collecting a list of stuff I’ve been wanting to get so I thought I’d also put that here as well so it can all be organized in the same place.
Stuff & Things
Glossier Generation G in Leo
I’ve already talked a lot about Generation G in my Glossier Mini Review post and since I loved the color Crush so much I really want to get it in Leo and possibly another color.  This is probably one of my favorite lip products to date (besides Burt’s Bees of course).
Glossier Boy Brow
I’ve heard so many great things about boy brow.  I’ve been drying to try it but I can’t as of yet because Glossier still doesn’t do international shipping plus I’m in my shopping fast so boo!  I’ve been using an all natural eyebrow pencil as of late but it would be interesting to try a wand type of applicator.
Giant Magicarp Plushie
Here’s where the nerdy part of me makes an entrance…one thing I’ve been looking for ever since I came to Japan is a giant Magicarp Pokemon plushie.  I already own quite a few pokemon plushies but Magicarp has always been one that I want the most.  I’ve always had a Magicarp on my team (in the game) because who doesn’t want a beastly as fuck Gyarados destroy everyone?? I’ve been peeking into every big city’s Pokemon Center when I get the chance but it seems that the only time they sold giant Magicarps was in 2013 (color was gold though).  I’m hoping they re-release them or I can find one on Ebay.
This Exact Star Trek Pin
I’ve put a hold on my pin buying as of late and the shopping fast helps but one pin I’ve been on the hunt for has been a Star Trek communicator badge pin, and low and behold here it is.  I’ll get it eventually but no idea when.  Check out Robin Eisenberg’s website!  The art, pins, and patches are superb.  I also love the X-Files ones!
Art Prints
I’ve been focusing on trying to beautify my apartment up a bit and already found an art print I adore and since has been hung up!  I want to create a gallery wall above my bed so I’m on the hunt for art pieces to add to this.  I’m thinking of adding up to ten pieces overall so I’ll keep this updated.  So far my next piece is probably going to be the one pictured above by Meszley.
If I end up getting something I’ll add this –> (updated: bought)
If I end up changing my mind about a product I’ll probably put a line through it–> like this
If I add an item to the wish list I’ll put an asterisk before it with the date like this –> *added January 2017
I’ll also link future blog posts about the items so you can always check back here for links and information.
Thanks for reading.  What are your top two wish list items?
(Disclaimer: All photos belong to linked sources unless said otherwise, I do not own these photos or claim to own them)
2017 Wish List Wow so it's only Day 4 of my Shopping Fast and it's been difficult to say the least.
