Sleep Headcanons💤

How your non-human husbandos need or not need to sleep. This is part of Better Find Husbandos AU and speaks of the times when reader was in a relationship with each of the boys. Contains: fluff! Domestic slice of life! Headcanons canon for Better Find Husbandos!

Characters: Venti, Albedo, Xiao, Scara/Wanderer/Kuni in order x female reader. (arranged in the order reader slept with them :3)

Venti

The body your dear wind spirit created to inhabit completely resembles the one of a human. Even if he is strong and resistant due to his nature, he needs to eat, drink, go to the bathroom, etc, to sustain this vessel without resorting to using his Archon or wind spirit powers, which cost energy that is no longer unlimited now that he doesn't have the Gnosis anymore.

Therefore, obviously, he totally needs to sleep. He sleeps every single night (or day, after a hangover) like any healthy human. That keeps him in shape and without the need to cheat and grab elemental or divine energy from his stash, which he only does when strictly needed. Because of this, in his humanoid, weakened state, it's really easy for him to get drunk. But if something very bad happens and he needs to sober up to protect you, he won't hesistate to grab that power and using it to strengthen or modify his body and fight alongside you.

As I said, he sleeps every night and he likes doing it with you. He was so happy when you gave him a room in your teapot, since then he didn't need to sleep on the street or sneaking under Diluc's vines to get shelter. But ever since you got intimate with him he doesn't use that room and to be perfectly clear, he has no intentions to go back to it. He crawls into your bed every single night and he loves it.

He uses the cute little pajamas you made for him when Barbara taught you how to sew, sleeping hat and all. He snuggles up to you and demands being little spoon. He snores all night, most of the time softly light a spring breeze, but some nights noisily like a hurricane, and he drools all over your pillow.

Albedo

Your dear friend Albedo, the chalkboy, the homunculus. It took a bit of time of friendship and some nights of sharing the bed with him whether because there was a snowstorm after you visited his lab and you were trapped or because he invited you with a straight face, but you learned about his sleeping habits too.

Very much like Venti, he needs to sleep and eat. He is a nice cook but he has weird tastes, such as eating spiders or so, but when he has guests he cooks decent food. He does have some resistance when it comes to spending some days without sleep, but it's not clear if this is due to his physical nature or his workaholic behavior. Sometimes he works for three days in his experiments running on 3 hours of sleep and caffeine seeminly unaffected. But besides those marathons, he does sleep regularly. He is careful with his health and the health of those close to him, like Klee and Sucrose, and he always exercises and eats healthy. (Matbe thst's why he is obsesses with the nutrients of spider and other unconventional foods) He is a grat brother and a grear friend and makes healthy foods for Klee and forces Sucrose in and out of bed whenever she is in one of those workaholic insomniac marathons or depressive strikes that prevent her from going out. After all, she doesn't have his superhuman resistance.

From the few times you slept with him, you know that he has a comfy double bed in a room behind his lab, sheltered from the frigid environment of Dragonspine. You were super comfy there, but honestly Albedo is kinda restless even when he sleeps. Apparently his curiosity doesn't stop even if he is dreaming, and he twitches and mumbles things about his experiments in his sleep. Sometimes he sits up, turns on the lamp, and writes notes on the notepad he keeps on the nightstand for when he gets ideas in the middle of the night. The few times you were with him, he apologized for waking you up, he gave you a warm smile and a gentle kiss and tucked you back, spooning you just to fall back asleep and mumble things about whopperflowers in your ear while his hand twitched like he was trying to write in his dreams.

Xiao

Xiao doesn't need to sleep. He can go an entire century without doing it, but it doesn't mean that doesn't take a toll on him, or that sleep doesn't help him. In fact, it's wonderful for his health, both psychological and physical, making him get stronger.

But sleeping is not easy for him. He hadn't slept in a long time, because he is scared of stopping his watch over Liyue for the smallest second, and because the nightmares he gets are atrocious.

It was only very deep into his relationship with you that you convinced him to sleep. The bond you have with him is so special, not only you cleanse his karmic debt energy but also your proximity manages to calm him down enough as to fall asleep. It took a long time to reach this stage but then when he laid by his side he could finally sleep, even if Venti was making a ruckus with his snoring and drooling. He loves him too, and wants to protect the both of you. So no, he doesn't need to sleep, and most of the time he is only keeping guard while in bed with you, enjoying the peace and quiet and your proximity, the sound of your breath. But sometimes he does relish in the luxury of sleeping by your side, and the morning after he always feels so refreshed that he feels like a different person: light, stronger, healthy.

He is a big spoon with an iron grip, his protective instincts never go down, not even when he is asleep.

Kuni

Ei created Kuni based on Khaenrian technology that aspired to create perfect humans, (such as Rinherdotir plans for Albedo) with a twist. She didn't want to create a human, he wanted a puppet that could fool humans into thinking that it was one of them.

She did succeed in making him indistinguishable from a human from head to toe. On the outside. But on the inside, he doesn't have the same organs humans have, (not even synthetic, improved humanly organs like the ones Albedo has) but synthetic organs that even if they are not like the ones of humans, they were designed to mimick their noticeable functions.

That is to say, as we all know, Kuni can drink and eat, and feel the flavor of the food. He loves bitter tea and despises sweets. But that doesn't mean he needs to expell those things. In fact, his "stomach" will dissolve everything with a potent acid which its recepy was lost along with Khaenria's demise.

So that's about all his bodily functions: he can perform them, to trick humans, because that was his original purpose. But he doesn't need to do it to survive. Eating, drinking, peeing, breathing. That is unnecessary keeping himself alive. That's just for show (As Kabukimono, not only he began drinking to pass as a human, but also he learned that he had to blink often to make humans less uncomfortable). Or for pleasure.

Because he knows you love when he breathes in your neck when he gives you kisses. And he loves to enjoy the flavor and aftertaste of a bitter black tea. Or to accompany you with a little platter of whatever you two are making for dinner for you and your glutton floaty companion.

Same goes for sleeping. He doesn't need to sleep. He could go an eternity without doing it and he would not die, his body would not get weaker. And as Kunikuzushi and Scaramouche, he never slept, he deemed it lowly and weak and he considered that the fact that he was able to wake himself from the slumber in which Ei put it was a signal of his superiority.

But sleeping is good for his mental health.

Ei planned his body meticulously, making sure to be in control of all his bodily functions. But as we all know, she everything regarding his mind slipped out of her control. She wanted a thoughtless, emotionless, empty puppet. But Kuni is so much more than that.

He had his own thoughts and emotions and desires from his first waking moment, and oh those feelings were human. They were so profoundly human Ei panicked and did what she did. Because if humans do have a soul, then Kuni definitely has one too.

And even if the body and brain don't tire, age or wear down, the mind does. The heart does. The soul does. Going around without sleeping won't make his body crumble, but it sure makes him stressed, irritable, depressed.

He got back in touch with the act of sleeping when he was still the Balladeer, when he started hooking up with you. Just to play. Just to experiment. After your passionate nights, he fell to the temptation of closing his eyes while you were cuddled up against him, nestled in his bed he never used before he met you. He was just planning to rest his eyes for a while, to experiment with those mundane pleasures. He never expected them to feel so good.

Nowadays, he loves sleeping. But it has to be with you. Otherwise, who would comfort him when he gets those atrocious nightmares??

When they don't haunt them, there's nothing better than to cuddle up against you in your shared bedroom in the Teapot after a long day. To close his eyes, hold you tight and relish in the warmth of your human flesh, of your steady breath, of your beating heart. Well, maybe there is something better: to wake up beside you the next morning and play with your hair until you wake up, laughing at you because you're grumpy that he interrupted your sleep.

He demands being big spoon all the time: he NEEDS to cling to you and cage you in his arms all night to feel like you will never abandon him because he truly doesn't want to end up alone again. He doesn't hate being little spoon though, it's just that it makes him feel so...vulnerable. Receiving love always makes him feel so vulnerable. Because it reminds him of how much he is convinced that he doesn't deserve it. So getting in contact with his feelings it's a struggle for him. He prefers when you hug face to face, when you nestle your face in his chest.

The same way he loves your human flesh, you love his truly special body. You love how cool it feels. It's not cold, it's just cool. His warmth is subtle, it's there, but it's not enough to make you sweat under the covers. He is the perfect cuddle buddy for summer! You love the way he syncs his breath to yours until you fall asleep. You love the sound you hear when you press your face to his chest. That sound you found that night when you held Scaramouche close for the first time in his camp. When you discovered it ticked.

He was defensive and ashamed back then, and he is insecure until today. He is convinced he doesn't have a heart, he can't press his ear to his chest, he can't hear the magical sound you claim to hear. He thinks it's your infatuation for him playing tricks with your mind.

But you know what you hear. When you nestle your face in his chest, on the left side, you can hear it. Tic, tac, tic, tac, steady, a mechanical sound ticking like a clock. Tictactictactictac, quickens, if you mamage to fluster him. It's the only sound that soothes your nights, along with your voice, so you sleep by his side every time you can.

But when you're away in yoyr travels, so busy or imprisoned in Meropide Fortress for stealing Furina's cake that you can't even go back to spend the night in the Teapot, what can he do?

He doesn't wanna sleep. There is no point. He has spent ages without doing it, so he can keep going without sleeping until you come back.

But...

He is now a college student, and the mental health toll of having to keep up with the Akademiya classes, his classmates that seem to chase him everywhere, and the constant deadlines of his thesis is too much to bear without sleeping. He knows he wouldn't be able to survive that hell without ending up snapping and kicking some sage's butt if he doesn't sleep regularly. He doesn't want to upset Nahida, so he does sleep when he has time. But it's just not the same without you! Hurry up and come back from those dumb travels to cuddle him!

Author Notes: I guess it surprises no one that Kuni's part is always longer ehe. Homegirl has her favorite. Also I'm super sorry I always do the same: posting a new random thought I had one night instead of finishing chaptwrs of ongoing series I've been promising for ages. I swear I'm working on them. I'm working on finishing that Albedo fic and I had a meeting with my editor (aka my boyfriend) to talk about the major plotpoints of Assembled Love and that gave me some inspo to write the next chapter. Im also working on another spin off chapter for it. (Honestly my most popular post is the other spin off, I wonder why)

Weird of me to post something that it's not smut, ain't it? 🤔 Normally my fluff has smut in it but ig this is like, my 3rd or 4th completely sfw post. Anyway, the posting of something new and random instead of finishing old wips is like a personality trait of mine 🥲 I struggle so much to finish old things cuz I don't find the right vibe that I craved to write something fresh and new. Note to self: hurry up and finish what I'm writing while it's new and the vibe is not gone, exactly what I did with the Assembled Love spin off that blew so much, I pulled an all nighter finishing it before I forgot the plot bc it was a dream I had.

In other news, I haven't had a genshin smutty dream in AGES. I bet that's the cause of my relapse into depression and not the economic crisis. Praying for Kuni to visit me in dreams like old times 🙏

Actually that's an interesting question.

Vaginal ejaculate is actually not chemically involved in the process of procreation. It's biological use is largely to aid in the mechanical act of sex.

If I were a Renaissance alchemist, and a Paracelsian physician trying to use contemporary alchemical knowledge to analyze uterine anatomy, I would probably come to one of a few conclusions:

1) Vaginal excretions are a byproduct of the act of procreation, a dross given off by the chemical reactions involved in procreation. Meaning it would be a Sophic Salt.

2) Vaginal secretions are the result of an ordinary or involuntary biological reaction. Meaning they are some combination of existing humors, probably phlegm, as that's what semen was considered to contain. Meaning that they're some form of humoristic water.

3) I'm a preformationist. I believe that spem is actually millions of tiny, fully formed babies, and that the uteruses role in procreation is to provide a sort of nursery for this tiny homunculus, and vaginal secretions are a form of elemental earth (the element which fosters nourishment and growth)

hey guys have my wild magnus protocol theory that stemmed from me just overanalyzing the little bits of content we have

i think lena is a homunculus.

(spoilers for the pilot and jonny + alex’s post pilot discussion under the cut)

basically this stems from. a lot of places w small amounts of information so some of this might be stretches. But

1. a lot of marketing around protocol mentions the theme of “what does it mean to be a person?” which. leads me to believe there’s gonna be a plot around a protag being Not Human but has the heart or whatever the fuck. standard pinnochio or wizard of oz story. sure youre not human but ur a person bc of xyz free will or whatever

2. lena’s behavior in the pilot is So odd and almost inhuman in its extremely dull corporate jargon way. she literally uses things like “you can file a complaint” or “here at the oiar we….” (advertiser shit) , in genuine conversation. she doesn’t leave the building, either and has a Generic office party.

im genuinely thinking bureaucracy and the weird eldritch stuff of the oiar is Literally all she knows, not that shes being manipulative and evil in the trailer like elias; she doesn’t or maybe cannot question the whole. asking sam about the eldritch trauma thing, something something cant understand human emotions and why that might be troubling.

also “people like chocolate cake.” that sounds weird and something someone with only base knowledge of humanity would say.

she’s described as “an odd one” by jonny and that we will “get her soon”. im under the full belief that shes the non-human character of the bunch thatll yknow. have the Real Boy plot

3. homunculus specifically comes from all the alchemy shit around protocol, and homunculi are some of the most famous alchemical creations in popular culture, and i think she’s not. an entity creation. lenas too much of an important character to just be like. tied to An Entity, as a main character extremely tied to the OIAR, that entity would have to be the basis of like the entire plot of protocol; which i doubt theyd do.

the eye is so important to archives because the themes of archives was the consequences of knowledge- the entire plot was engineered around the Eye as the Main Character Entity and the Eye was written to be that in turn, sorta similarly to how Griffindor is the Main Character House (TM) of HP with its themes of bravery. i doooont think the oiar is tied to the stranger or flesh or any other simulacrum creating entities.

all that to say i think lena is a different kind of artificial human, one that’s manmade rather than entity made yknow?

we get glances of the people above her in status, theres mentions of an ephemeral “he” in the pilot, so. heres what i think

the He in question is an alchemist whose in charge of the OIAR (and maybe other branches but lets focus w the oiar). He created Lena the homunculus to be the middle manager of the branch in his stead; “programming” her to be as dull and corporate as possible to keep the employees in line or whatever. something something shes got a plot wrestling with that and her inherent lack of persondom

EDIT: totally forgot this part

adding that the first statement’s plot was about an abomination of corpses given a humanlike shape and coming back wrong which is. exactly what frankenstein’s monster is, and frankenstein’s monster is considered a homunculus.

with the anglerfish’s importance to season 3 of archives i definitely think the Arthur monster will come up again in some form, but maybe instead of Actually being In Podcast maybe its a parallel to the main characters’ story in the same way that many s4 statements were used to give us more information on how jon is working through it all. the zombie statement when he just wakes up comes to mind especially. maybe it’s a hint and echo of what a Character in podcast (lena) is

Not quite a human, even less than that a woman.

I keep thinking about her. She spent her days serving evil men in a castle... Death was the sweetest release she’s felt after such a cruel fate. There’s been speculation on whether Daniella is a homunculus or human. She keeps alluding to the former by saying she was “created” but I’d like to think it’s still up to interpretation. What if she was just a normal girl before her life was taken from her when they kidnapped her and turned her into a mindless servant... Or that if she’s a homunculus, being made with azoth (the essence of life) is ironic given that she was infertile. Thus not being able to contain azoth within her. She was made to be “The Perfect Woman”, adding insult to injury.

I think I’ve said too much but I guess I really resonate with her story haskjhskjhg Also I just think she’s neat :3 I watched so many video essays, the only thing left to do for me is to play it. Hopefully I can emulate it...?

I was trying to capture a colored pencil look so I downloaded these. I might never truly be able to capture the unique look of traditional art digitally though I’ll still keep trying.

UNCHAINED SANGUINEOUS HEARTMAKER {Guilty Gear}

Riding the high of a resounding Epiphany.

...Did I pull another "Desdinova" purely out of sheer A.B.A hopium? (I kept the lines sketchy, though, because I could not be arsed to try and mimic Strive's linework style again after the pain from last time ahjsdgajhsdgadk)

Yes. Yes I did.

So, those Season 3 character survey results, huh? The A.B.A hopium is real. I really do wonder what they'd do with her if she was brought to Strive, so I decided to try my hand at a "Strive-ified" A.B.A design.

So, design background info:

So, she's a... weirdo homunculus, right? An artificial human, created by a mad scientist she never met, so she was alone and never really learned how to... "people". That key in her head also keeps on reminding me of the bolts lodged in the sides of pop-culture-ified Adam's (Frankenstein's monster) head. She's also desperately trying to find a human(oid) body for the demon/magical foci Paracelsus/Flament Nagel, who she is deeply in love with. Artificially-created human, medical themes, artificial human form, deeply in love...

So what if she decided that, with her attempts at finding a body for him repeatedly failing (XX endings don't count, XX's canonicity is completely FUCKED lmao), why doesn't she just... create one herself instead?

In other words, the creation becomes the creator. Lil' bit of "Bride of Frankenstein" thrown in, if the guy making the bride (or in this case, groom) was the monster itself.

So, making her into a key-axe-wielding mad scientist homunculus.

I tried to make her pose reminiscent of a dance move, specifically a "dip".

GG ABA Strive fandesign sheet 01

The first drawing I got done of my design for A.B.A (featuring a base-shapes Paracelsus for scale). Featuring her color palette (F1 is base flesh, F2 is scarring, H is hair, B is bandages, C1 is primary coat color, C2 is secondary coat color, C3 is tertiary coat color, E is "edges", M1 is one of the metal colors, A is "accents", M2 is the second metal color, and the square below that is the eye colors), weird ragged patchwork "lab-coat", boot details, "branding", and some of the text on her design.

- The phrase printed along the front edge of her coat (and the heels of her boots) is "LOCK&SEE" (the "&" stylized to look like/replaced with a keyhole symbol), a spin on the phrase "Lock and Key", fitting with her obsession with keys and tendency towards twisting sayings/phrases into mondegreens. Also implies hiding something.

- The brand on the back of her coat is meant to look like the coffin shape on the back of Paracelsus's head during Moroha Mode, with the nose hole and right eye hole visible. Text above it reads "PARACELSUS" (with the P and R stylized to have curved horns in the back like MM Para), and the text underneath reads "FLAMENT NAGEL" (with similar "horn" stylization on the F).

- The scarring is damage from her not wearing proper protective gear during her experiments (because she doesn't seem like one to wear proper PPE lmao), much of it taking up most of the left side of her upper torso/arm (meant to mirror Strive Faust's stitching).

- She's both grimy and very... "DIY", so her stitching is very hodgepodge.

- The text along the stitching on the back of her coat reads "The More The Moodier.", a play on one of her mondegreen win-quotes in XX (against I-No: "People say "the more the gloomier", but she's just too much to take...") but with the same alliteration as "the more the merrier" which it was derived from.

- The brand on the right side of her shorts is the same as on her back, but without the "FLAMENT NAGEL" and with "PARACELSUS" underneath instead of above.

- The key markings (gloves, boots) all have the same key-blade shape as Paracelsus.

- I had some trouble figuring out some of her colors, as they differed between the sprites (blue metal, glove. and trim) and official artwork (dark brown metal + glove, blue trim), so I decided to have dark brown for the keys and dark blue for the studded trim and left glove.

- The laces of her boots and the buttons on her coat are meant to resemble Para's mouth stitches

- Made her head-key/neck keys have a little skull decoration similar to some of her XX art (it's very inconsistent).

The second "Strive-ified" A.B.A design sheet I made.

- Both of the large gloves look the same, with the red bands and Paracelsus-blade key markings.

- The dark blue left-hand glove is (mostly) the same. I like to think that it's her "woobie", what with her tendency to get attached to inanimate objects.

- The dark blue cropped tank-top is meant to only be visible in Moroha. The text reads "MOCK&KEY" (the "&" stylized to look like/replaced with a stylized keyhole symbol, the top part of the keyhole meant to look like a coffin), another spin on "Lock and Key" like the previously-mentioned "LOCK&SEE" compounded with her believing herself to be superior to humans. Moroha is what was locked-up.

Third sheet I made.

- Noting specific design changes during Moroha. Coat opens + key "eyes" gain red glow.

- Design for her head + neck keys.

- Design for her bloodpacks. Text reads "FRASCO". Symbol underneath meant to look like a "flask" shape made out of an upside-down keyhole.

GG ABA Strive fandesign sheet 04 (Para)

The fourth sheet I made, featuring Paracelsus and his colors.

I honestly didn't change much lmao. His design is already weird by GG standards, mostly just tweaked some things.

- Made his eyes asymmetrical. Right has small iris and no pupil, left has beady pupil. Wanted to make him look "cartoony (western) neurotic/nervous" while hinting at his "main" glowy eye in Moroha being his right eye.

- I blurred/smudged the blood along the bottom edge to imply that A.B.A dragging him around wore away some of it.

- I added some spikes to his collar for a "punk" look, which glow red in Moroha.

- I kept his mouth stitches in Moroha. The mouth-corner stitches remain, while the middle stitches are tied around his left horn.

GG ABA Strive fandesign sheet 05

The final sheet I made, featuring mechanic ideas, "meta" stuff, and a design for repurposing an older move into a reversal super.

- Non-replenishable resources don't really fly in Strive, so I decided to make them replenishable through an alternate version of Bonding (a.k.a Keygrab). One Keygrab variant for Moroha, one Keygrab variant for a bloodpack. Starts off with no bloodpacks. Max three bloodpacks at a time. Functionality basically the same as XX.

- Turned Altercation (i.e. Enter Goku Moroha) into a Moroha-exclusive reversal super. Goku Moroha is not something that flies by modern fighting game characters, let alone Strive, so GM would definitely get axed. Still keeping Altercation as an absolute weirdo of a move, taking different resources depending on how much she has of each.

- Not sure what to actually do with Moroha's function/moveset, but having an "Install" state is the big thing that defines A.B.A's playstyle, so she'd probably keep at least base Moroha.

- Evidence: Concealment becomes a full reversal that only hits one hit as opposed to three, because most people cancel it after the first hit anyway lmao

He'll usually shoulder hug you most of the time, like he slings his arm around your back and hold your shoulder. He'll do it when you're adventuring with him to avoid his dads teasing him.

His hugs are warm bcs of his Pyro Vision. And he usually smells like mint or Windwheel aster? and sometime steel and alcohol bcs of his injuries

Usually it's a 50/50 on who is asking for the hug since both of you wants to show/receive affections, but you two are also too shy to initiate it.

He's the one who will hold your shoulders or hands for a while, and then hug you, as if he's asking for consent

His hugs are soft, a bit lose since he don't want to make you uncomfortable. He usually smells like salt water and fresh cut grass if it makes sense? sometime he also smell like petrichor(The smell that appeared after rain)

Both of you like to just sit somewhere and bask to the sun's soft heat and just cuddle together

If it's about who demands the hug, It's mostly you who's asking for it since Albedo is either busy or doesn't think of it. But he will hug you show some affection once in a while <3

It must've been tiring and cold walking from Monstadt to my lab. Huh? You want a hug? He already thoughts that you want hugs before you even say it and he's very sassy about it, he'll just slip his arms around your waist and pull you into a hug while laughing in victory because of hearing your surprised yelp

His hugs are sort of clingy in a way, he's not gonna strangle you but it is a clingy hug. He smells like mints and old papers in a way??? idk how to describe it, but he somehow smells like the winds in Inazuma sometimes

You both usually like to sit or together and chat about cases while munching on some Tonkatsu or other fried food <3

In term on who is asking for the hug, usually it's Heizou who initiate it first. He'll either ask nicely or tease you untill you do what he ask for. But he also knows when he needs to not bother you and his borders so it's a bit relieving to know.

"Oh hey there my dear Watson~ I assume you are here for something you wanted from me, which I assume was, a hug. Am I right? How do I know? Heheh, are you simply underestimating my investigation skills or do you forget that I'm a Detective hm? *sigh* ok here's your hug, come here. Alright alright I'll stop teasing you ....for now~"

Xiao🍃

He's stiff when in terms of hugging bcs he didn't learn much about affection for eons. But he'll starts to warm up later on and be lest stiff with it

He was a bit confused on what to do at first but gradually he will relaxes. He smells like Qingxins and Almonds, with a hint of steel from the dried blood and his injuries from his constant combat

You two don't rest together often bcs he's busy with demon hunting and all but if you we're, you two like to sit down on Wangshu inn's roof or the peaks of Jueyun karst's mountain and ate some Almond tofus

Usually it's you who ask for the hugs since he rarely ask for a hug. But if he was the one to ask, he'll think abt it for a bajillion times before he does it qwq And he always tried to hide the redness of his ears or cheek when you randomly pounce on him <3

"It's you, what are you doing staying up at a time like this? You can't sleep??? *Sigh* I thought you mortals need sleep, you are incomprehensible. Huh? There is something that can help you sleep? general opinion on Chapter 3?

The pre-investigation section is alright. It introduces the player to Makoto and sets up a bunch more ideas to contemplate in the background while the story continues. The Resistance gang I didn't much care for, but I appreciated more worldbuilding on Kanai Ward surrounding the abandonment of Dohya District, which is most likely due to the research facilities there being made as part of the homunculus project. I can also appreciate how Yuma's motivation to accept Shachi's mission (and later avenge his death) wholly revolves around his 'save this city' attitude that reminds Yuma of Yakou.

Fubuki is a pleasant partner for the chapter, bringing a lot of comedy to what would've been a fairly uneventful or boring chapter without her. I wish Yuma stood up for her more when Shinigami insulted her in the labyrinth, but I'm glad they at least resolved their differences in the end and Fubuki stayed courageous. Guillaume and Dominic were also very lackluster antagonists. I get why some people love them, but I'm just not big on their characters and the bare minimum screentime they get. Though that's a problem with a lotta peacekeepers, but I felt like I got more outta the other higher-ups' interactions cause I felt like I was at least learning a little more about them as their featured chapters went on. Meanwhile with Guillaume n Dominic, I entered and left the chapter with the same amount of knowledge I had about them when they were first introduced. They were the most stagnant of the antagonists in my opinion.

The mystery itself was the most 'meh' part of the chapter for me. The investigation is intertwined with QTEs and relatively simple puzzles (ignore the fact that I blew up five times on that last puzzle), which didn't really add anything to the tension and just felt like filler to make the chapter last longer. The mystery labyrinth seems to be shorter than the rest, too. I do like Yuma becoming so enraged he tosses away his reluctance to kill culprits all because Shachi's goal aligned with Yakou's. After he thought he lost most of his colleagues and now lost another person who reminded him of the one who took him under his wing, it's not surprising why he's pissed and forgot his values in that moment. His grief morphed into anger.

The aftermath of the labyrinth is where it's at! The NDA detectives kick ass and take names right before all hell(smile) breaks loose. Yomi put the fear of god in me in chapter 1, but he continues to ramp up his intensity with his threatening to torture Yuma. Also one of the dialogue options has great foreshadowing to Yakou's murder motivations.

And OHHHHH where do I even start with the chapter's ending?! Actually, I'll just let one of my hindsight rambles do the talking for me.

Vivia cryptically revealing himself to be a rival to Yuma makes starting chapter 4 all the more exciting and interesting. It's the perfect set up!

for the record I dont think Caty has a bile sac (tho we dont know for sure how TC's magic works) and therefore I think they mostly do glyphs.

They remember some basics from before they died (TOH has established that bones hold memories & theres no reason they wouldn't use most of Caty's bones all in one Grimwalker for the test run) but not any of the really high level stuff Collector would know.

They also have enough starchild still in em that they don't age, so they just accumulate a lot of glyph knowledge over time anyways, mostly self-taught via fucking around and finding out.

Shuu

Not wanting to cause trouble for himself, Shuu forces his panic attacks to be quiet and contained. It's a pain if people get mad at him, so it's easier to bite down on his wrist, stifle the sobs, and force himself to stay quiet. When you figure out that he's upset and then go out of your way to comfort him, he's confused... and more than a little wary. Still, when you're letting him lean up against your side and enjoy the warmth of human contact while he tries to calm down, it's too much of an effort to resist.

Reiji

He's terrified of you seeing him at anything less than his best, so being reduced to tears from a mere dream is the exact kind of thing he'd much rather hide. Considering that the nightmare was about you disposing of him for not being good enough, your attempts to comfort him are almost more distressing than anything. Reiji is too panicked to contain himself, though, so he ends up just sobbing harder over your efforts. He can't stop apologizing, and is only spiraling more when you're kind.

Ayato

When you first find him in this state of panic, Ayato is certain it's going to end very badly for him. He can't imagine you being anything but disappointed in how pathetic he's acting... and that only makes him panic more. Despite his frantic insistence that he's fine, that he'll shut up and calm down and stop being so noisy, though, he'll still cling to you the second it's clearly acceptable. Reassurance does wonders when he's like this, but he's still going to be sobbing into your chest for a while.

Laito

After the nightmare he had, he's almost more afraid of you touching him than the dream itself. When all he can think about is being changed against his will and used until there's nothing left of worth, touch feels like a threat. Laito hates having any part of himself out of his control, but he's too panicked to contain the tears and too frightened to pull himself together and put on a smile, as usual. You wind up just sitting in the room with him, talking about silly things until he's calm enough to think again.

Subaru

He's painfully ashamed of himself for acting so stupid and weak, and even when you try to comfort him, all he's thinking about is how this pitiful display gives you even more reason to get rid of him. Whatever he broke in his initial panic only makes him more self-conscious and terrified, and he can't stop thinking that you're only here to punish him for making a scene. When you're gentle with him, though, he breaks. Crying so hard it hurts, he just wants to curl up and hide from all of this— from you, and everything.

Kino

If you touch him while he's panicking so badly, Kino is only going to spiral more. The nightmare left him terrified of wasting away, of you deciding that he's not worth the trouble to keep alive— he's desperate to take a little bit of your energy just to feel more secure, but he's so deep in his meltdown that he can't imagine that being allowed. He'll struggle and try to push away from you, but only cries harder if you back off or try to leave. He knows he's causing you trouble, but he's too scared to make himself stop—
