So, there is a version of the myths around the Iliad where Palamedes (guy who stuck Telemachus in front of a plow to get Odysseus to stop pretending he was crazy and avoid the draft--we hate this guy) (or friends of his) spread some rumors in some of the commanders' hometowns that their husbands had found and fell in love with beautiful concubines, and intended to replace their wives/queens with these concubines when they returned home.

Clytemnestra, wife of Agamemnon, and Agialia, wife of Diomedes, both believed these rumors, and reacted accordingly. I can't account for Agamemnon's character, I don't know him all that well, but I thought, wouldn't it be hilarious if the "beautiful concubine" sneaking into Diomedes' tent was simply Odysseus, whom a lot of my friends headcanon was not really able to grow a full beard til the end of the war.

He's pretty proud of his new disguise, I think.

VeronaHills, Round Six: Land

Beulah eased herself into the pine recliner by the pool. She sat back and marvelled at the might of her own motherhood.

When each Land child was born, the boys were wrapped in blue, the girls dressed in pink. Beulah and Homer liked simple traditions: they ensured Scot and River had strong woodcutting arms, while Mary, Dixie and Delta had nimble knitting fingers. Modernity would sneer at such contrasts, but Beulah had no interest in outside opinions. Her children were adept in life skills devoid of a screen. No modern family could say the same.

Besides, when you're about to become a grandmother, what else matters? Oh yes - Beulah knew the sizzle of snacky sandwiches well, and smiled at the sound of her eldest daughter Mary engaging in the habit at odd hours. Grand-motherhood. What a delight!

Breadwinning pride brought Homer to the police station in the village bright and early. He would usually be greeted by an empty office (and empty cells, bar the bi-monthly drunkard). Whippersnappers fresh out of police training would be snapping at his heels soon enough, so he made sure to carve laps in the pool after his shift. Fitness, at his age, had to be earned - and money had to be earned too, with dear Mary's family surprise on the way.
