@nestaarcheronweek | Day 01: Queen of Queens
“We heard about you down here. You are the one the sea and the wind and the earth whispered of.”
“Nesta.”
“You took from the Cauldron itself.”
“Come with me, Queen of Queens, and we shall return what was once lost.”
-  Chapter 54, A Court of Silver Flames.
Nesta has been referenced more than once as a queen in the books, and perhaps this is a portent for what the future holds for her. Maybe not exactly as queen, but as ruler of the Dusk Court.
In this art, me and Luana wanted to represent Nesta as it's High Lady, holding her two swords: Cauldron made Ataraxia and Starsword/Gwydion. And we couldn't have loved more how @gessueter brought this idea to life.
Art by: @gessueter Commissioned by: @melphss and Luana Characters belongs to: Sarah J. Maas

HOFAS broke my heart for Nesta bruh. Cassian still can't defend his mate, someone else who literally knew her for 5 minutes had too. A human woman defended Nesta against the High Lord of Night and her own mate can't.
like WTF. My dude can't trust his mate. He should have trusted her when she gave the Mask to Bryce. I just feel for her, no matter what she does she will always walk on thin ice with the IC and it's really not fair. Literally all the main male characters defend their partners wrongs but not Cassian. If anything maybe their bond was faked considering how Cassian never seems to have the overprotective mated male for her. Eris would never.
Because of Nesta giving the mask, the Asteri were defeated AND they got the lost sword of Gwydion back. I really hope Nesta keeps it, but I know that won't be the case.
Thing is, Nesta weighed up the risk. She met an Asteri - Rhys didn't. She knew the threat - Rhys didn't. Giving Bryce the mask gave them the edge over the Asteri. If Bryce lost, they'd use the horn to get to Prythian, bringing war to their door. Nesta isn't dumb. She weighed the risks and knew how much Bryce's parents meant to her, knew how much it cost her to put them in Velaris. Rhys is just pissed that she is making decisions without consulting him. I hope gwydion pulls away from his magic like Ataraxia.
Also Nesta:

In doing some research for my fic, I encountered a few names from different SJM books that seem to be derived from similar origins and I went on a bit of a trip trying to consider all the connections:
When researching some information regarding the inspiration for Helion (the God Helios) I discovered that Helios’s mother is called Theia and his sister is called Selene. Theia, Helios and Selene are all connected through solar elements like light, the sun and the moon.
Tumblr media
If we recall from HOFAS, Silene was Theia’s second daughter who Azriel also claims looked like Rhys’s sister. We also know that she too was able to wield her mother’s Starborn powers (which is essentially starlight).
Helion’s power is also light and also has several similarities to Helios:
Tumblr media
And I always question the potential foreshadowing of the scene below.
Tumblr media
- ACOSF ch 41.
If I had to guess, perhaps Silene or a descendant of hers was married off to a member of the Night Court, which is why Rhys’s sister looks like her. But my real interest is the connection that Helion (and Lucien) has to the Trove, and their potential challenge to the theory that Rhys has a claim to the throne as a descendant of Fionn/Theia. The similarities in name could have been mere coincidence but the effect the trove had on Helion creates that potential connection to Theia and Fionn (I’m not saying he is Silene’s brother but they could be the ancestors to whom he is referring in ACOSF)
Then perhaps this chapter in ACOSF (ch 42) in which Amren urges Rhys to conquer Prythian claim the throne and he declines several times, only to have her respond with this line:
Tumblr media
…might suggest that there are others who have equal claim to the throne.
Personally, I hate the potential High King plot line, especially if Rhys and Feyre will claim the throne (I could write an essay on why this would make no sense from a narrative perspective). There are so many references in HOFAS that highlight why Prythian failed under the ruling of one sovereign and we as readers experienced the reign of a sole ruler in book one. It just makes no sense for Prythian to return to a proven failed form of sovereignty, especially with Rhys and Feyre in those positions of power, when they only recently broke free from Amarantha’s reign.
However, should the High King and Queen narrative be necessary to the plot line, I would far prefer Helion/Lucien be the potential challenge to the throne over Rhys. The end of HOFAS even opens questions regarding Nesta’s future in a position of power in Prythian.
High King plot aside; these potential clues do make me even more interested to see how Lucien’s past will affect the rest of his story and the over arching plot of the series, how his power could be even stronger than we expected, how they could come into play with the Koschei plot line and whether he will play a larger role in the political future of Prythian as well.
But most interestingly is that Theia (the mother of Helios and Selene) was the Goddess of Sight and Vision, possessing prophetic powers, and it seems fitting that Helion’s own son is mated to a cauldron-blessed Seer. Mates fated to be together who are true equals in every way.

It's so interesting to me that Enalius was one of the first Illyrians, and if he was the bearer of Truth-Teller, probably their fiercest general. It's so interesting to me than an Illyrian, not a Daglan or a High Fae, was entrusted with this Cauldon-Made weapon. It's so interesting to me that this Illyrian looked around at the world where his people were nothing more than a foot-soldiers and decided that they could be more, that there were better things worth fighting for, and gave his life to guard the way to the monolith atop Ramiel. It's so interesting to me that it is Azriel who now bears Truth-Teller, the Illyrian male who has seen the worst of their society and distances himself from his heritage as much as possible. Perhaps, he too, will come to decide that his people could be more.

hofas spoilers + Ember bonus chapter spoiler
I really enjoyed seeing the ic from an outsiders perspective. Admittedly I like specific people within the ic more than others, but largely I have been curious how they are perceived by people who don't don't have a long history with them.
sooo... seeing Bryce's take on them was really interesting to me. Like obviously she isn't thrilled to be a captive, and they are cautious b/c she just randomly appeared, but it helps me get a better picture in my brain about who these fae are vs who sarah wants them to be vs how they actually are perceived.
While I think Rhys has every right to be annoyed with Nesta, I did find it refreshing to see someone finally stand up to him. I think Nesta deserves someone who will stand up for her, and tbh I don't think Cassian did enough of it in SF. He always has the potential to grow and I look forward to seeing that in future books, but Ember was EXACTLY who we needed in that moment for Nesta.
TBH I also thinks this sets us up for IC conflict in the future which (from a narrative perspective) I find REALLY interesting b/c these are all very powerful fae with varying opinions and experiences. What happens when someone (other than nesta) doesn't fall in line?

People are upset Feyre is not in the CC3 book and doing "bad ass things" and blaming Nesta. Lol please blame Rhysand, cause he sure as hell is not allowing Feyre to do that. Literally Nesta is the one he would put in harms way. So if anyone is to blame why Feyre is not being "bad ass", it is him.
SJM literally made it that Nesta is a major factor, so people better get used to her 💕
Feyre is busy being "the perfect mother". I honestly won't be surprised if she will be pregnant with a baby girl in the next book to mirror SJM - and to defy the established canon that fae pregnancies are rare.

I’m gonna be honest, the magic language bean in HOFAS didn’t bother me because leading up to the release of the book I spent so much time stressing about how Bryce was going to get the urgency of her situation across to the IC 😭 like how difficult would it have been if she couldn’t communicate with Nesta and Azriels and Rhysand. Sometimes a simple fix is worth the peace of mind lol.
