Au headcanons

Gods have an ability to basically do something called "Divine Voice", it's a powerful language that to a mortal bug, can only be felt. It rumbles deep in their core and creates a large amount of pressure depending on where you are, but to other gods it's a language they can understand. It's almost like echolocation for them, and each God has there own "voice".

Pale King's is basically a thrall, a beacon of sound that others will follow

White Lady has a gentler voice that feels more like a strong gust of wind that pushes you closer

Unn's is quite literally a whale call, it's a song of longing that calls to her children

Grimm uses his as if it were a bow for a cello, dragging it across the fabric of reality to create a deep, resonating tune

Radiance's is commanding, powerful, and full of rage. It's more akin to roaring sunlight than a true lanuage

The Void actually possesses one too, but it's just a silence. It swallows up the other songs they Gods sing and replaces it with absolute nothingness

Speaking of the Void! It's quite literally the empty part of the world. It's the embodiment of all forgotten things as they condense into a vast sea of black. It's entropy given a will and a voice. It's true decay, the last stage of rot, perfect orderly stasis given form.

Unn things

aka why she’s my favorite + some headcanons

So Unn is my favorite bug in Hollowknight, she’s big and goofy, and like also really powerful in a quiet way. Plus Slug. So here’s some of my thoughts and headcanons about her.

She’s a different type of god than the rest in Hallownest? Like she’s still a bright god and still gives off light but something about her nature itself is different. Notably she’s the goddess of plant life and such, ie things that eat light to survive. I’d be willing to bet that at her peak she could’ve simply “overgrown” other gods and smothered their light entirely.

it seems like she’s been fading for a really long time? Like a fuckoff long time. She’s probably from the first generation of bright gods, and she’s so over everyone’s shit.

Greenpath, despite being thoroughly infected, does really well for its proximity to the black egg, and like some of her mosskin are straight up still loyal to her.

I just think it was super cool that godseeker was in awe of the power she once had.

Also her design is peak, she’s a green acid slug who is the goddess of plants and growth. Slugs are notorious for eating plants, it’s a cool dichotomy.

Also let’s talk about the fact that besides the radiance she has the most impact on the physical world through her powers? Like passively she dreamed the entirety of greenpath into the physical world, that’s a massive fucking deal. It’s even more impressive if you consider that the radiance can only do what she does by essentially burning herself out.

I guess my point is that Unn at her peak would’ve been built different.

Shes also really tolerant of other gods in her territory? Like the pale king and his road, the white lady and her garden, and the radiance(although that isn’t by choice seemingly)

It also looks like greenpath once spread much, much further. Like fog canyon and the crossroads most likely used to be part of it at least.

I’d be willing to be that greenpath is only one in a long line of civilizations she has had grow up around her.

like she moves to a new place, dreams them into existence, and then sleeps for a fuckoff long time to get some strength back, takes all of their belief and moves on again(bringing the individual dreams of the mosskin with her)

I wonder if she’s the goddess of plant life in general? Like I could see her making a desert kingdom with cacti/succulent mosskin.

Anyway I just like her.
