Blank Page Brigade Spotlight: Assistants (5/5)

Assistants Part 1 is: here, and Assistants Part 2 is: there,

Assistants Part 3 is: that way, and Assistants Part 4 is: this way

At the end of volumes of Black Clover is space for the “Blank Page Brigade.” This particular “brigade” is composed of the assistants (you know, those who help with art) and others from the Black Clover manga team, lead by “Captain Tabata.”

In each volume there’s a question that everyone answers. Assistants also include a drawing with their answers. I’ve compiled the answers and drawings from all published volumes (1-30), and grouped them together.

I’ve taken long enough with this that volume 30 was published; thankfully I was provided with pictures. I also took long enough with this that the English publication of vol.27 came out, so this post has scans from that too

14. Sōta HISHIKAWA

has been present from vol.18-30

an overall observation, but Hishikawa seems to really put emphasis on hands you know?

i guess Gauche's hair would be fluffy enough to nest in

15. YAGASA

has been present from vol.20-30

16. Yuu AOKI

was present from vol.26-28

according to Tabata, Aoki started a new series on Jump+ and from the looks of MAL i think that series is Kabushikigaisha Magi-Lumiere with Aoki doing the art and Sekka Iwata writing the story

Aoki has a really nice style

is the shading on Vanica pencil?

if you don’t know, Ramune is a drink; the drinks are aight but their claim to fame is the bottle and marble

so Nijisanji is... well, i’m sure? some..thing where you talk to virtual youtubers?? something like that idk man

17. Tatsuya HAYASHI

was only has been present from vol.29

*update: it seems that Hayashi was only away for vol.30, then came back for vol.31-32, which will be seen in a future post

according to Tabata, Hayashi published a one-shot in Jump Giga earlier this autumn

the bird goes "chirp" as it chills on Lilith/Naamath's horn; hopefully the lil birdie will be alright 🐦

18. "Ajina" YUU

has been present from vol.29-30

i put “ajina” in quotes because: 1) typically family names are written in kanji and given names can be written in kanji or phonetically, so i have doubts about “ajina” being part of their name. 2) looking up “ajina” pulls up that it’s an adjective for “smart, witty, clever, strange, mysterious”

i opted for “Witty Yuu” because: A) i like how that sounds. B) i put Hayashi’s, Yuu’s and Kobayashi’s names together like how a kidnapper cuts out letters from a magazine wakao provided the capital w and i was able to put together the word “witty” alright

so what’s that calligraphy by Magna? it’s 二刀流! i had to ask around for that, but it means “two-sword style” and is also a reference to playing multiple roles in baseball such as hitter and pitcher (as can be seen with Magna wearing a pitcher’s glove and holding a bat). with that said, now please look at the other definitions

19. Shion KOBAYASHI

was only around for vol.30

Other Vol.30 Updates:

Hayato Gotou is gone children..! here from the start, but there was no drawing from Gotou in vol.30... there's always the possibility that Gotou will return, like how Satosho came back

Yotaro Hayakawa and Kazuhiro Wakao weren't present either

I updated my previous posts accordingly (from "has been present" to "was present")

*update: Hayakawa has been updated to say “has been present” again because Hayakawa’s back for vol.31-32

although I covered Hishikawa and Yagasa in this post, I’m not rearranging shit so I put their vol.30 drawings next to Miyamoto's drawing (Miyamoto was covered in Part 4)

Miyamoto's vol.30 drawing: if you're wondering, when introduced Gadja’s 27 years old and Lolopechka’s 21 years old; so if lil Lolopechka's like 7 in the drawing then Gadja would be 13

This is the last of the art assistants... for now? I’ll actually be out of the country for a bit and when I come back vol.31 will be out but idk if I’ll make a separate post....

Regardless, next up is the rest of the manga staff; I’ll likely include the vol.31 info on them in their posts. Idk how many posts the other manga staff will take up but yeah...
