paddock.club rumours have been swirling around pierre gasly and his anonymous girlfriend, who's affectionately called 'augustine' by his fans, and their alleged break-up for weeks now. the said rumours were confirmed as gasly was seen out in monaco and he certainly wasn't alone — or with just one consistent company. "this may confuse some people but they were very different from each other," sources close to the couple claimed. "after summer break ended, it felt like so did whatever they had going on." this comes as a shock as despite knowing almost nothing about augustine, fans adored her and they're devasted about the end of their summer love. click on the link in our bio for everything that we know about their relationship.

tofu sends all her love to you too and soju boops you (she isn’t that bad, she’s just insane).
first group trip to san diego sounds so fun!! im glad you have that opportunity! and the matching tattoos!! my friends and i want to get one with this specific artist but she’s booked till like forever and getting our schedules to work is so hard (we want to get ✨cats✨). i love tattoos so much, i only have one😩 but i have the itch to get another one soon (probs after lolla though, another bday gift😂). when you get them, you must show them to me (if you’re comfortable ofc)🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 and the pc holder! the fact that you were indecisive and got the best of both worlds!! we love that! i love keroppi, underrated king.
i’ve watched the sherlock performance like 7 times im not even kidding (plus all the reels & tik toks i’ve seen😭), im obsessed. my new cover roman empire (tired with “ill be your man” from kingdom). i just love shinee so much and sherlock is one of my fave songs/performances from them! so skz literally killed me with that. choi minho has my heart, every time i see the hard or s class tik toks i either die a lil or gain a lil life, idk yet. i love all of the members fr, i played russian roulette with it and chose minho (then i just loved his personality so much, he’s so sweet). taemin is my wrecker too! (and one of my bf’s ults, he’s obsessed with taemin). i’m suuuuper sacred for the future of shinee comeback too bc i really really really want to go see them someday, ik taemin signed as a member of shinee but not solo (like the BP members) so im hoping for at least one comeback & tour with the four of them🤞🏻.
(also, i read your answer like at 3 am like 80% asleep and i dreamt that you, a person that i’ve never seen in my life so you were just a faceless human layout, were going to tattoo me -it was actually such a cute cat design, do you tattoo by any chance?😂- and then we would go to a shinee concert 😭😂)
ily bb! i hope you have a great week!💕
-🐈‍⬛
(Soju I still love you 💔) Ughhhh I so feel you on waiting for a specific artist 😭 the artist who did my first ever tattoo was only an apprentice when I met her and shortly after my tattoo she randomly skyrocketed in popularity and bookings and now it’s IMPOSSIBLE to book w her I would give anything to get tatted by her again ☹️ plus the shop she works at is women-only so it just has such a comforting vibe to it but they’re booked out like an entire year 😀 rip. BUT my new artist is also really cool and she can usually fit me in within a few months so I’m not complaining!!!! I love female artists they’re always so talented and sweet also YESSSS I will absolutely post my tattoos on here when I get them !! 🫶💘
PLEEEEASE I HAVE WATCHED THE SKZ SHINEE PERFORMANCE SOOO MANY TIMESSSS especially Jisung’s high notes????:!:!:!:!:!:!/ I CANNOTTTTT also have you been seeing all the beautiful Choi Minho tik toks we are being blessed with. He’s so beautiful fr on his Roman Holiday I NEED HIMMMM 😦 Taemin being your boyfriend’s bias wrecker is SOOOO REAL he’s for everyone frfr. I truly think Taemin is otherworldly like his concepts and his talent and the way he thinks…… if I could be any kpop idol I would hands DOWN pick Advice era Taemin the fucking HAIR the suits the concepts the music and choreography…. He’s like everything I want to be 💔💔💔💔💔 when I die I hope I come back as Advice era Taemin
THAT IS SOOOO FUNNY OH MY GODDDD PLWKKWKEKDKSKS I would be SO bad at tattooing but I would love to try using a tattoo gun at least once so if anyone needs a really shitty tattoo, I’m ur girl 🫶 I hope you can get another tattoo soon!! If you get one after Lolla I would so love to see it (if you’re comfortable ofc!) MANIFESTING MORE TATTOOS ALWAYSSSS 👼 this also reminds me I want a shinee tattoo so bad I would love one for each member and then an Ot5 tattoo ughhh a Taemin tattoo would go so hard I wouldn’t even be able to choose one !!
ILY BBYYYY I’m virtually tattooing a little heart on you 🫶💓💗💞💕💘💝👼

Stranger Things 4 volume 1: a Character Analysis
(for the second to last time besties, let's go)
Jane/Eleven: deserves a nap. should be compensated for all the shit she does for others. Victor Frankenstein, is that you ???
Will: gay™ & an artist™. "turn arooouund,, looook at what you seeee" - still has the worst haircut in the show (they've done you dirty my man). I'm not saying Alex Standall,, buuuut....
Mike: has the worst wardrobe in the show (affectionate), asshole (affectionate), bad friend (derogatory).
Dustin: apparently the smartest person in this show apparently. has a tone problem. still funny :)
Lucas: has the best hair on the show :) jock™. Trying to do other things than just play D&D, good for him. Shot the final shot, v proud of him <3
Max: trauma™ - also deserves a nap fr. she was a skater girl™, we love her ok ??? she's great
Steve: babysitter (derogatory)™. Still trying to find a girlfriend ??? (take a break king). hairy™.
Nancy: gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss™
Robin: disaster lesbian™ (love the representation)
Eddie: looks like he's 30, why are you in high school my good sir???
Jonathan: in his Zach Dempsey era <3 pothead™
Joyce: couldn't even be gone for like two hours before everything went to shit. deserves a break !!! has now been to Russia
Murray: rat (affectionate)
Hopper: so in season 1 they played on 80s archetypes and turned them upside-down blah blah, but my dude is in is 80s hero era, they've completely lost the thread of what they did in the beginning.
Erica: amERICA ! ! ! still playing into that sassy black girl stereotype I see. loved when she played D&D with the gang though <3 "it's a club for nerds" she's not wrong
Henry/One: *it was Agatha all-along*
Victor: :(
Doc B (not me shortening his name): no comment.
Argyle: Netflix owns Eduardo Franco at this point, so it was only a matter of time before he joined Stranger Things. Good to have you here king. Pothead™
Mr. Wheeler: you may hate him, but he speaks the truth. "A club for people who won't graduate high school" cut to a bunch of people who've continuously repeated their senior year.
Mrs. Wheeler: you flirted with an underage boy last season, I have not forgotten mam.
Barb: still haunting this show I see.
Enzo: he's a cool dude, I'm glad you're not dead king
Suzie: tech™, mormon™, like lowkey the coolest person on this show
Other characters: *exists*
BONUS!
Ships:
Mileven: you know when you date someone when you're like twelve and it's cute and then suddenly you're older and it's not that cute anymore? yeah. Girlboss + Stick vibes :))) (sorry Mike, not my words)
Byler: currently a one sided affair, let's be real, the writers never intended for this, but it's cool that they're doing something now, and if Will does end up not being queer, at this point it will be queer baiting.
Jancy: "We're fine" cut to them not being fine
Stancy (this can not be their ship name): god, this again ??? we can't just switch every season it's exhausting
Mucas: they still care about each other and that is all that matters
Joyce x Hopper: that hug sustained me for another year
Suzie x Dustin: couple goals™ (fr though, they're like the healthiest relationship on this show)
Squads:
LA Crew: yells in unison. buries dead bodies ?? is perhaps the saddest crew I've ever seen, like I know they're going to El, but God they haven't been plot relevant for a few episodes. They're fun though so I'll accept it. Vibes > Plot.
Hawkins Gang: making a bunch of progress. plot relevant™ - off saving lives and shit. Dustin has no one told you to respect your elders?
The Adults™: off on a trip to Russia, just casual things you know. Still keeping the Soviet storyline alive even though that should've died last season.
The guys™: lmao they haven't been a friend group since like the beginning of season 2 :'(
The Hellfire Club: I'm ngl, if I was Lucas I would also bounce

umm friday night lights characters ranked now that i’ve known them for a while <3
tami taylor. her guidance counselor swag and mom realness and coach’s wife slay and milf serve…. she’s so everything… i can’t tell you who she reminds me of because explaining that would take hours but just trust that she reminds me of something very VERY near and dear to my heart and soul and seeing her go about her fun little plotlines brings such joy and happiness to me it’s unreal…
timmy riggins <3333 that’s literally my guy… he’s breaking barriers by being every letter of the lgbt acronym at once and also a cishet teenage boy from texas etc we’ve heard this. also he thinks the scarlet letter is about a woman named scarlet… he’s so me when i don’t do my assigned readings fr…
LYLA GARRITY THE MOST SPECIAL GIRL ON THE PLANET!!!! she’s literally having her comphet arc right now… and also in her getting slut shamed era… happens to the best of fictional teen girls <3 love you girl
julie taylor… she doesn’t really do anything for like 7 episodes but then when she does get to do things she’s soooo funny about it… her dad was conspiring against her going on a date and she outwitted his every move! i don’t even think she really cares that much about dating matt she just thinks it’s funny that her dad is mad about it and matt is awkward about her dad being mad about… like you just KNOW this bitch is giggling up a storm to herself after watching them interact…
matt saracen :) he’s just a nice young man for real… a nice boy… he loves his grandma and he just really wants his daddy to be proud of him for becoming the quarterback and he just has so much going on he’s like an overly stressed out puppy that’s just shaking and shivering and quivering because he just has so much to worry about all the time and he’s just a little guy he’s only 16 and he just wants to hang out with his buddy while he plays bad music with his shitty band… he’s so clary core actually maybe that’s why i like him. ok
coach taylor. i don’t know this man’s name. his first name is coach to me…. and i like him :) he’s kinda my dad core…. he’s also literally nothing like my dad and that’s WHY i like him… it’s complex
jason street… he’s like if a really nice young man was also the most irritating mf alive. society if his plotlines didn’t revolve around him being mad about shit 80% of the time. i love him but goddamn. doomed by the narrative but instead of that meaning he’s going to die at the end it means he’s literally narratively not allowed to be happy and it makes him act in such annoying ways….. this also happened to archie andrews but i can’t talk about that lest i incur the wrath of my rivermutuals
landry clarke. he’s just so funny to have around… he’s like matt damon but a little gayer and more pathetic… he’s like such a classic comic relief character he’s so good at it he’s so cunty he’s so everything and he has a shitty band and he drives his best friend on dates because he has nothing better to do than be a chronic third wheel i guess… love this guy !!
tyra <3 she’s so slay but also sooooooo Written By Men…… girl you don’t deserve this shit
smash. i don’t like him at all really but i know he’s only written Like That because of racism so like i’m being forgiving and i don’t hate him but i also still don’t like him and i’m never going to be excited to see him onscreen :/
well that’s all the major characters, an honorable mention goes out to jason’s friend from rehab who’s name i’ve forgotten, but he’s fun to have around!

Matisse Thybulle is becoming the cult hero Philly deserves
Tumblr media
Matisse Thybulle is living up to his college reputation during the start of his 76ers tenure.
The Sixers rookie sensation is a walking defensive highlight reel.
Elton Brand kept repeating himself at the Philadelphia 76ers’ introductory press conference after the 2019 NBA Draft. “We had to have him,” Brand said again and again, subtly acknowledging the rumors that he had promised Washington Huskies wing Matisse Thybulle during the draft combine and was willing to do whatever it took to get him. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge saw Brand’s desperation and took advantage, trading back four spots and picking up the No. 33 selection from Philadelphia in return.
Brand may have telegraphed his infatuation with Thybulle, but the cost of an early second rounder won’t matter if the Sixers’ rookie continues the riveting progression he’s shown in the early part of the season. When Thybulle is on the floor, it’s hard to notice anyone else. The Denver Nuggets got a first hand look at that experience on Wednesday night.
Thybulle was everywhere and everything against the Nuggets, flying around the court on defense, finishing above the rim in transition, and continuing his hot shooting from deep. He ended the night with 13 points, five rebounds, and one steal, with multiple jaw-dropping sequences underscoring his second straight brilliant performance. He finished +20 in a game where no other Sixer was better than +9.
Matisse Thybulle, to me, you are perfect. pic.twitter.com/AzlG1tsqcV
— NBC Sports Philadelphia (@NBCSPhilly) December 11, 2019
Thybulle is just now working his way into a regular spot in Brett Brown’s rotation, but when he does play, he’s making a major impact. The Sixers are 16-2 in games where he plays at least 12 minutes. He’s one of the league’s most accurate three-point shooters on low volume. According to 538’s RAPTOR metric, he’s the most impactful defensive player in the league, with a slight lead over Rudy Gobert and Kawhi Leonard.
This feels like the rare rookie who is ready to contribute right away while still just scratching the surface of what he could one day become. The rest of the world is just now seeing what Brand always believed.
Thybulle has been a historic defensive playmaker
All Thybulle did during his four years at Washington was rewrite the defensive record books. As a senior, Thybulle became the first player in the modern era ever to have 100 steals and 80 blocks in a season. He was Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and national defensive player of the year as a senior.
Thybulle did his damage his last two years playing in the 2-3 zone that head coach Mike Hopkins brought with him from Syracuse. It led some to wonder if his immense production would translate to pro-style defenses, a question Thybulle answered definitively as soon as he put on Sixers colors.
Thybulle immediately impressed in summer league, and took his legend to another level in the preseason, where he averaged 2.6 steals and 1.4 blocks in just 19.1 minutes per night. Just ask Luke Kennard if Thybulle’s defensive numbers in college were a mirage.
Some Matisse Thybulle highlights from last night, focusing on his defense. He's now averaging 5.6 steals and 2.8 blocks per 36 minutes in preseason pic.twitter.com/tuutNf89P4
— Tom West (@TomWestNBA) October 16, 2019
Thybulle’s defensive playmaking has been just as excellent in the regular season. He’s averaging 3.1 steals and 1.5 blocks per-36. He’s second in the NBA in steal rate. He’s near the top of the leaderboard in deflections per-36. The Sixers defense, which is No. 4 in the league, is 3.7 points per 100 possessions better when he’s on the floor.
His anticipation instincts are real. His reaction time is real. Seemingly every time he takes the court, Thybulle is making two or three defensive plays at minimum that make you rewind and watch again.
youtube
At 22 years old, Thybulle already looks like a seasoned vet on the defensive end if you accept that every player will have a missed rotation once in a while. Those that saw him at Washington knew his steal and block rates would translate, zone be damned. It’s what he’s showing so far on the other end that is actually surprising.
Thybulle is a developing shooter
Thybulle’s jumper had potential coming out of Washington, but it was also no sure thing. He hit a respectable 35.8 percent of his threes on four attempts per game over his four-year career, but his percentage was down to just 30.5 percent as a senior. More troubling, Thybulle looked reluctant to shoot in his final year, passing up open threes to swing the ball or attack half-hearted closeouts.
Thybulle hit 39 percent of his 28 attempts from three in summer league, giving Philly hoop his range could extend to the pro line. He’s continued that in a big way during the regular season. Right now, Thybulle is hitting 46.3 percent of the 54 three-pointers he’s attempted. That puts him No. 6 in the league in three-point percentage.
THYBULLE BACK TO BACK THREE ! #PhilaUnite pic.twitter.com/WNcpNO22kU
— 76ers FR (@FR_Sixers) December 9, 2019
Thybulle’s shooting is going to regress, but his touch looks legitimate and his low arcing shot appears soft coming out of his hands.
The Sixers don’t need Thybulle to be one of the league’s best shooters like he’s been so far. They just need him to be respectable. Anything else he gives them beyond that on offense is going to make the imagination run wild of what he could one day become.
The 76ers finally found a usable rookie
From Joel Embiid to Ben Simmons to Markelle Fultz to Zhaire Smith, the Sixers have had comically bad luck with rookie injuries. We’re not trying to jinx Thybulle, simply noting that even making it 24 games into his rookie year is a cause for celebration.
Thybulle is also simply easy to root for. Every time he speaks to the media, you can tell he’s living his dream.
"Even just like six months ago, if you had told me I'd be in the position I'm in today, it would have been really hard for me to believe you... I'm so grateful." Matisse Thybulle doesn't hold back on how it feels to have the team relying on him. pic.twitter.com/QbMu67HfMS
— NBC Sports Philadelphia (@NBCSPhilly) December 9, 2019
Sixers fans are turning Thybulle into the cult hero he was always destined to be. This has been the perfect union of a hyper-passionate fanbase and a player whose impressive skill set and beaming personality demand appreciation beyond his per-game numbers.
honestly i don’t even watch the other sixers anymore i just watch matisse
— Michael Levin (@Michael_Levin) December 11, 2019
the Matisse Thybulle draft day deal with the Celtics is the first time Philly has won a trade with Boston since we got Ben Franklin back in 1723
— shamus (@shamus_clancy) December 9, 2019
Thybulle has outlier athletic ability with outlier defensive instincts. He’s entered the league with his own signature celebration. He has a ways to go on offense and will need to learn the nuances of defensive coverages, but it’s clear he has some special talents that he’s already been able to successfully deploy against pros.
The Sixers are still figuring out who they are with mismatched pieces that think outside the box the rest of the NBA is living in. Whatever the Sixers eventually develop into, Thybulle will be a big piece.

A Ranting Tribute to Rover from a British person. via /r/cars
A Ranting Tribute to Rover from a British person.
This is somewhat inspired from the guy who posted the Top Gear Saab tribute earlier and no-one's gonna see this rant but what the heck. This is mainly going to be about the final era of Rover, from 2000 - 2005.
13 years ago, MG-Rover went into administration, but this time, it would be gone for good. In previous years, British Aerospace had bought them out, followed by BMW, then the chucklefucks at the Phoenix Consortium (we'll get to those bastards later, don't you worry), and it looked like someone else would try their luck with the brand: even Richard Branson of Virgin showed interest. But in the end, it wasn't to be.
Our story starts when BMW announces it wants to sell Rover in 1999. Two main groups, both British, have offers: Alchemy Partners, a venture investment group that would've focused on the MG brand and making mainly sports cars branded as MGs (due to the success of the MG F). The other offer came from the Phoenix Consortium, a group of 4 businessmen, however only 2 are of note: John Towers, who formerly held a high position within the Rover Group, and Peter Beale, who we'll talk more about later.
Of the two, Alchemy's business plan was far more solid BUT would've required laying off thousands of workers. Phoenix's plan was criticised as incomplete and unsustainable but promised to keep on as many workers as they could. The government at the time was formed by the Labour Party, who, of course being concerned with workers rights, chose Phoenix to buy the Rover Group. In 2000, BMW sold it to them for the eye-wateringly pricey sum of £10 (£16.53 in modern money), but not before they took the design of a replacement for the Rover 25 for themselves. Which went on to become the wildly successful Mini.
5 years later and the renamed MG-Rover goes down the pipes for the last time, and an investigation into why reaps scandalous results: The Phoenix Consortium were running tax schemes on the side with the bank Barclays (infamous in Britain for doing business with anyone, even Apartheid) and airline Ryanair (synonymous with just getting by regulations). On top of that the Big 4 at the Consortium were siphoning off millions for themselves, and the cherry on top, investigators found that Beale (remember him?) had bought and run a program called "Evidence Remover" a day before they were due to seize his computer (you just can't make this shit up!). Once was all and said and done, Phoenix stripped MG-Rover of all it was worth, selling off bits to whoever, and not one of the Big 4 went to prison.
So with all this going on behind the scenes, you'd expect the cars to be terrible, thrown together pieces of crap worthy of 80s GM, and the general consensus here in Britain is just that: even non-car people, when told that someone has bought a Rover, universally respond with, "Why?" But that's the saddest thing: they were actually really good, and that consensus was agreed upon during the British Leyland days, when they really were terrible. The Consortium was too busy running tax schemes to bother about the cars themselves, so the decades of automotive engineering experience at Longbridge was able to work its magic.
Don't believe me? Let's run down the range offered by MG-Rover before it disappeared. Just a quick note, Rover rebadged and re-engineered Rovers in the range into sportier MGs. Also, all MGs are follwed by a number, e.g. the MG ZR 160, MG ZS 180, etc. These numbers show how much PS the engine made.
Rover 25 / MG ZR
The Rover 25 was an unremarkable, if refined hatchback. The MG ZR 160, however, was a great hot hatchback, it's fizzy, 1.8 litre, variable valve timing straight 4 demanding aggressive throttle mashing. Unfortunately, the K-Series engine was prone to head gasket failures and everyone bangs on about it, but so was EJ25, and people worship that engine like a god. Now, I'm not calling the K-Series as good as an EJ, because it blatantly isn't, but it definitely had its merits, chiefly that it was the lightest engine in its power range being made at the time. The handling, on the other hand was acceptable at best, however what were you expecting for less than £15k new?
All-in-all, a good budget hot hatch, especially if you weren't prepared to pay the premium for a RenaultSport Clio 182.
Rover 45 / MG ZS
The Rover 45 was slightly less competitive in its class than the 25 was it its, mainly due to it looking, and in many ways being, older, although it maintained the theme of understated refinement set by the 25. However, the pièce de résistance was definitely the MG ZS 180. Under the bonnet of the 180 was a 2.5 litre KV6; no failed gaskets to be found here. Instead you got more power, better better torque and a better sounding exhaust note than the ZR. On top of that, racing driver Tiff Needell described the ZS as the best handling FF car he'd ever driven: high praise from an accomplished driver.
All things considered, a fantastic little car and, considering you can buy one of these for less than £2k here in the UK, the perfect car for the budding track day enthusiast or Honda Integra Type-R wannabe.
MG TF
A brilliant car that can be easily summed up: want a Lotus, but don't have the money? Perfect we have just the car for you! With the same 1.8 from the ZR 160, it was great to thrash, and it solved the handling problems of the ZR. Perfect!
Rover 75 / MG ZT
Not to sound repetitive but the Rover 75 was a very refined and cushy executive car. I probably need not say too much about it because Regular Car Reviews did a video on it and y'all probably seen it. But there's one thing RCR didn't mention...
V8. Yep. 4.6 Ford Modular, straight out of a base Mustang. No BS.
Rover's engineers decided they wanted an M3 rival, so they did a deal with Ford who shipped them to Longbridge where they were fitted into completely re-engineered 75 / ZT bodies (they turned an FF chassis into FR without majorly changing the exterior or interior. How.) The one downside is that these were base 4.6 Modulars: 260 hp wouldn't cut it against an M3. However, the ZT 260 was praised by Clarkson, saying he'd buy one if it had 50 more hp.
There was, however, a plan to remedy this.
A prototype was revealed, called the MG ZT XPower 385. This was a ZT 260 with suspension re-engineered by Prodrive (a British tuning firm), the engine completely reworked by Rover (so much so even the block was different) and supercharged to produce, you guessed it, 385 PS. This would have fair and squarely demolished the M3. If it ever got to production.
A very pretty Rover 75 Coupe prototype was also made. That also didn't get to production.
MG Xpower SV
Now this is interesting.
For whatever reason, MG-Rover decided it needed a supercar. So, already struggling with financial ailments, what did you think they did? Yep, bought out an Italian firm no-one had ever heard of. Qvale, to be precise.
Qvale was chosen as the only car it was making, the Mangusta, used a 4.6 Ford Modular, which Rover was already buying from Ford. "Great!" Thought literally everyone else, "Just slap on an MG badge and call it a day!" But no, MG had to pull a Saab and change everything. It is obvious just by looking at the Mangusta and the SV that they share almost nothing in common. On top of that, MG decided that Qvale should start using carbon fibre to make the body panels. To top everything off, instead of shipping the completely re-engineered V8s (similar to the one used the ZT 385 prototype) to Italy, the much larger bodies were brought to Longbridge where the cars would be assembled. Business planning at its finest, people.
Available in 320, supercharged 390 or Nitrous-boosted 1000 hp guises, the SV was again praised by Clarkson, who again said he wouldn't buy one, this tie because of price: Even the base 320 hp SV was £65,000. In 2003.
So that concludes my MG-Rover rant. In my opinion, its a tragic story of "Howevers" and "Ifs" that I could never fully do justice in this rushed Reddit post. I know no-one will read this, but I'm just posting in the hope someone will learn something. Like Saab, MG-Rover was a special company that would've achieved so much had they both not been fucked by their overlords.
Thanks.

ELLIOTT ERWITT, MASTER PHOTOGRAPHER
Elliott Erwitt, who turned 90 on July 26, was born to Russian parents in Paris in 1928. He and his family emigrated to the United States in 1939. As a teenager he developed an interest in photography and studied at Los Angeles City College.
In 1948, he moved to New York and attended film classes at the New School for Social Research. Shortly thereafter, in 1950, Erwitt was sent on assignment to Pittsburgh, resulting in a series of photographs that would define this city in the postwar era.
In 1953, Erwitt joined Magnum Photos, the prestigious picture agency, and worked as a freelance photographer for LOOK, LIFE and other publications from the golden age of photojournalism. Among his best known subjects: dogs, windows, museums and people watching.
Retirement does not seem to be an option, as Mr. Erwitt continues to work on a variety of projects.

SOCHI: BEFORE THE OLYMPICS (1977-81)
Book of Photographs by George Romanation
I had the opportunity to spend a few weeks in Sochi many years before the Winter Olympics of 2014. This Black Sea resort in southern Russia was a very different city back then, before the collapse of the USSR and the start of the Yeltsin / Putin eras. My book is but a small postcard journal of the city in the late 1970s/early 80s.

Game Preview: Vikings vs. Buccaneers
Following a 26-9 road loss at Pittsburgh, the Minnesota Vikings (1-1) return home in Week 3 to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0), who defeated the Chicago Bears 29-7 at home in Week 2. The Buccaneers will be making their 2017 road debut after having their Week 1 contest at Miami postponed due to Hurricane Irma. The Buccaneers posted a 5-3 road record last season. The Vikings own a 6-3 record at U.S. Bank Stadium since opening the venue last season.
Rookie RB Dalvin Cook has gotten off to a fast start with 191 rushing yards through two games, a rush total that is third-best in the NFL. Cook, whose 5.62 rushing average ranks fifth in the NFL, has totaled 166 rushing yards in the second halves of games in 2017, which trails only Kareem Hunt’s 174 rushing yards in second halves. WR Adam Thielen led the Vikings in receptions in both games to start the season and ranks tied for fifth with 14 receptions entering Week 3.
DE Everson Griffen corralled his 50th and 51st career sacks at Pittsburgh, moving him 5.0 sacks away from tying former DT Henry Thomas and current DE Brian Robison for ninth all-time in Vikings history. Griffen’s 3.0 sacks through the first two weeks put him in a tie for third in the NFL. The Vikings run defense has held opponents to 3.0 yards-per-rush, seventh-best in the NFL and hasn’t allowed a run longer than 11 yards.

College basketball’s top 100 players for 2019-2020 season: No. 100 through No. 51
Tumblr media
Colorado’s Tyler Bey, Michigan’s Jon Teske, and Xavier’s Paul Scruggs all appear in our top 100 college basketball players countdown.
Counting down the top 100 players in college basketball for the 2019-2020 season.
We’re counting down the top 100 players in college basketball for the 2019-2020 season. Find players No. 50 to No. 1 in a separate post later today. — ed. note
100. Collin Gillespie, JR, G, Villanova
Gillespie was handed the keys to the Villanova offense a year ahead of schedule last season, and it showed. Expect him to benefit from that experience and be an all-conference performer for Jay Wright as a junior.
99. Daniel Oturu, SO, C, Minnesota
Oturu established himself as a fierce inside presence in his first collegiate season, leading all Big Ten freshmen in rebounding, field goal percentage and blocks. With Jordan Murphy and Amir Coffey gone, Oturu will have to thrive in an expanded role if the Golden Gophers are going to make it back to the NCAA tournament.
98. Tulio Da Silva, SR, F, Missouri State
The Brazil native and South Florida transfer was the MVC Newcomer of the Year last season while averaging 14.3 ppg and 7.4 rebounds. Da Silva, who set a school record for dunks last season with 42, will be the unquestioned star for a Missouri State team that is the preseason pick to win the Missouri Valley.
97. Jay Huff, JR, F, Virginia
Tony Bennett has a history of taking guys with pedestrian stat lines but a handful of flashes of brilliance and turning them into standouts by the time they’re juniors and seniors. Expect Huff, a 7’1 forward who can shoot the three and handle the rock a little bit, to be the next who follows that path.
96. Nathan Knight, SR, G, William & Mary
William & Mary is one of only four original Division I programs that has never made the NCAA tournament. It’s on Knight, who averaged 21.0 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season, to remove the Tribe from that dubious club in his final collegiate season.
95. Trent Frazier, JR, G, Illinois
Frazier has been Illinois’ most consistent performer over the last couple of down seasons, and figures to maintain that role in a year where the Illini hope to return as a national player. Ayo Dosunmu is the guy getting all the (deserved) NBA buzz, but Brad Underwood doesn’t get this team into the Big Dance unless Frazier performs like an all-conference caliber player.
94. Remy Martin, JR, G, Arizona State
The man with the perfect name to be a highly entertaining Arizona State point guard is back for his junior season after helping to lead the Sun Devils to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for the first time in 30 years. Martin battled through injuries throughout his sophomore season, but still earned Second Team All-Pac-12 honors after averaging 14.2 points and a league-leading 6.2 assists per game.
93. Trent Forrest, SR, G, Florida State
Forrest, who has been nagged by injuries throughout his college career, will be the heart and soul of a Florida State team talented enough to once again be a threat to the top of the ACC. Forrest is a dogged defender and a consistent performer on the offensive end who’s always at his best when the stakes are the highest.

92. Jordan Bowden, SR, G, Tennessee
Bowden and backcourt mate Lamonte Turner have had their fair share of shining moments in Knoxville already, but they’ve never stood directly in the spotlight. With the Grant Williams/Admiral Schofield era now a thing of the past, that’s all about to change. Bowden was a double-figure scorer a year ago, but his 10.6 ppg is going to need to increase if the Volunteers are going to make it back to the NCAA tournament’s second weekend.
91. Samuell Williamson, FR, F, Louisville
A late-blooming McDonald’s All-American, Williamson is a silky-smooth wing who should benefit greatly from the attention that preseason ACC Player of the Year Jordan Nwora is going to receive from opposing defenses.
90. Elijah Hughes, JR, G, Syracuse
Hughes was a surprise standout for Jim Boeheim last season, averaging 13.7 ppg in his first season after transferring in from East Carolina. He’s the only returning starter from last year’s 20-win team, and should be the Orange’s No. 1 option on offense this season.
89. Nick Rakocevic, SR, C, USC
Rakocevic may suit up for a program that has a reputation for being a little bipolar, but personally he’s about as reliable a player as there is in the Pac-12. He ranked among the Pac-12’s top-10 in six categories last season, scoring average (10th), rebounds (third), field goal percentage (eighth), blocked shots (fifth), offensive rebounds (first) and defensive rebounds (third).
88. A.J. Lawson, SO, G, South Carolina
Lawson averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game while being forced to play more minutes than Frank Martin would have liked as a freshman. His 6’6 size makes him a matchup issue for pretty much every opponent on the Gamecocks’ 2019-20 schedule.
87. Chris Lykes, JR, G, Miami
The diminutive — he’s listed at 5’7 and that seems generous — Lykes figures to be one of college basketball’s most entertaining players in 2019-20. He ranked ninth in the ACC in scoring (16.2 ppg) last season and figures to have an even bigger green light as a junior. That’s welcome news for a guy who seems willing to pull up from just about any spot across halfcourt.

86. Joe Wieskamp, SO, G, Iowa
Assuming Jordan Bohannon is never healthy enough to play this season, Wieskamp is going to be the guy for Fran McCaffery. He’s already an established marksman from the outside, but Wieskamp’s offensive game will need to become a bit more diversified if he’s going to approach the overall numbers Hawkeye fans would expect to see from a healthy Bohannon.
85. Jared Butler, SO, G, Baylor
Baylor found its stride last season when Butler found his and began running the show for the Bears at the point. He averaged 10.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for a Baylor squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, but which has loftier aspirations in 2019-20.
84. Jahmius Ramsey, FR, G, Texas Tech
The former five-star recruit significantly upped expectations for his freshman season by dropping 44 points in one of Texas Tech’s August exhibition games in the Bahamas. Ramsey figures to be one of the offensive focal points for a Red Raider team looking to replace the production of Jarrett Culver, Matt Mooney and Tariq Owens from last season’s national runner-up squad.
83. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, FR, F, Villanova
Trying to predict who’s going to do what for this year’s Villanova team feels damn near impossible. Jay Wright has a bunch of similar pieces to work with, and it’s likely going to take a bit of time to figure out who goes where. A super versatile 6’9 wing, Robinson-Earl feels like the ‘Nova newcomer best equipped to come in and be consistently productive from night one on. He’ll be a double-double threat every time he steps on the court this season.
82. Admon Gilder, SR, G, Gonzaga
One of the top grad transfers in the country, Gilder comes to Gonzaga by way of Texas A&M, where he was forced to miss all of last season with a blood clot in his right bicep. Before that, he was the driving force for two highly successful Aggie teams. Gilder averaged 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists for a Sweet 16-bound Texas A&M team in 2017-18, and 13.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists the year before that.
81. Paul Scruggs, JR, G, Xavier
Naji Marshall is going to be the frontman for this year’s Xavier team, but Scruggs showed glimpses down the stretch of last season that he has the ability to be an All-Big East performer. He was terrific in March, most notably when he scored 28 points and handed out seven assists in the Musketeers’ overtime loss to Villanova in the Big East tournament semifinals.
80. Kahlil Whitney, FR, F, Kentucky
Another five-star Kentucky freshman, it’ll be interesting to see exactly what role Whitney winds up playing for this year’s UK team. Whatever role it is, Whitney’s freak athleticism and ability to play and defend multiple positions demands that it’s going to be a prominent one.
79. Omer Yurtseven, JR, C, Georgetown
The versatile 7-footer averaged 13.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for NC State in 2017-18 before deciding it was time for a change of scenery. He’ll fill the void left by the graduation of Jessie Govan, and should serve as the perfect compliment to the explosive backcourt duo of James Akinjo and Mac McClung.

78. Ochai Agbaji, SO, G, Kansas
Agbaji’s redshirt was burned in the middle of last season out of necessity, and he responded more impressively than Bill Self could have ever imagined. He hit a bit of a wall down the stretch but still posted respectable — all things considered — averages of 8.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the season. If his outside shot improves enough, he’ll have all the tools necessary to help Kansas make a run at the national title and then bolt for the greener pastures of the NBA.
77. Dejon Jarreau, JR, G, Houston
In 2018, Rob Gray passed the torch to Corey Davis Jr., who then passed it on to Jarreau after the Cougars had their hearts broken by Kentucky in the Sweet 16 last March. A former top-50 recruit, Jarreau was impressive enough last season to earn the AAC Sixth Man of the Year award despite playing just 18 minutes per game. With its three starting guards from last season all gone, Jarreau will be asked to do much more in 2019-20.
76. Davide Moretti, JR, G, Texas Tech
As a sophomore last season, Moretti became the only player in the history of the Big 12 to shoot at least 50 percent from the floor, 50 percent three, and 90 percent from the free-throw line in a season. He’ll be asked to up his scoring output now that Jarrett Culver is getting paid to play the game.
75. Tyler Bey, JR, F, Colorado
With McKinley Wright injured last season, Bey stepped up to lead the Buffs with 13.6 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 54.1 percent from the field. Now Bey is ready to team up again with a healthy Wright to form what should be one of the best inside-outside duos in the country this season.
74. Precious Achiuwa, FR, F, Memphis
The “other” five-star freshman on Memphis’ loaded 2019-20 squad, Achiuwa should reap the benefits of the extreme amount of attention James Wiseman will receive from opposing defenses. His ability to knock down the outside shot should also allow the Tigers to adequately space the floor in Penny Hardaway’s halfcourt sets.
73. Javonte Smart, SO, G, LSU
Smart had an ... interesting ... freshman season in which he averaged 11.1 points and 2.4 assists per game. He was sensational at times, most notably when he scored 29 points in an 82-80 OT win over Tennessee that proved to be the deciding factor in LSU claiming the SEC’s regular-season championship. His production should increase as a sophomore as he steps into the role previously occupied by Tiger star Tremont Waters.
72. Xavier Johnson, SO, G, Pittsburgh
Johnson was a monster for Pitt in his freshman season, breaking the school’s 34-year-old freshman scoring record and establishing himself as the only player in Division I to average at least 15.5 points and 4.5 assists per game. He achieved those offensive numbers despite often being asked to defend the opposition’s best player on the other end of the floor.
71. Matt Haarms, JR, C, Purdue
The man with arguably the best head of hair in college basketball is back to man the middle for another year in West Lafayette. The 7’3 Haarms is an established defensive force who will be looking to improve his numbers (9.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.1 bpg) in a season where the Boilermakers figure to be less reliant on the outside shot.

70. Mustapha Heron, SR, G, St. John’s
The cupboard isn’t entirely bare for new St. John’s head coach Mike Anderson. In his first year after transferring in from Auburn, Heron averaged a solid 14.6 ppg last season, but often seemed unsure of how to coexist in a backcourt also occupied by score-crazy point guard Shamorie Ponds. Ponds is gone now, which means Heron and fellow veteran guard LJ Figueroa should have an opportunity to post some gaudy numbers on a team that will be otherwise extremely thin on scoring.
69. Jon Teske, SR, C, Michigan
Already one of the top interior defenders in college basketball, Teske became a legitimate offensive threat for the first time in his college career last season. If his improvement on the end of the floor continues, he should be one of the most well-rounded big men in the country this season as a senior.
68. Lamine Diane, SO, Cal State Northridge
The best player in the country you’ve never heard of, last season Diane became the first ever Big West player to win the conference’s Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards all in the same season. He broke single-season school records for points (818), rebounds (368), field goals made (340), blocks (72) and double-doubles (20), and was also the only player in the country to average above 24 points (24.8), 10 rebounds (11.2) and two blocks (2.2).
67. Xavier Sneed, SR, G, Kansas State
Sneed is the top returning scorer (10.9), rebounder (5.5), three-point shooter, and minutes leader (30.7) from a Kansas State squad that shared the Big 12 regular-season title with Texas Tech in 2018-19. He’s also the player most responsible for making sure the Wildcats don’t take a dramatic step backwards in 2019-20.
66. Aaron Henry, SO, F, Michigan State
Henry entered the starting lineup midway through last season, and every now and then provided Michigan State fans with a glimpse into a very bright future. He can knock down the outside shot, he’s explosive when he needs to be, and his Miles Bridges-esque frame should allow him to be one of the better finishers in the Big Ten this season. He also figures to have more opportunities than originally expected with Josh Langford (who would be on this list if healthy) sidelined until at least January, Henry is going to be an NBA Draft pick, the only question is when.
65. Bryce Aiken, SR, G, Harvard
Aiken enters his senior season with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. His junior year ended prematurely after he dropped 38 points in the Ivy League tournament championship game, but still saw his top-seeded Harvard squad upended by arch-rival Yale. The Crimson are the overwhelming favorites to win the Ivy in 2019-20, and Aiken, who dropped 33 or more points in four of the 17 games he played in last year, is the pundits’ pick to once again be the conference’s top performer.
64. John Mooney, SR, F, Notre Dame
Mooney was the lone bright spot in an otherwise dismal season for Mike Brey and Notre Dame in 2018-19. He led the ACC in rebounding at 11.2 rpg, and his 20 double-doubles were six more than any other player in the conference. Mooney figures to have significantly more help in his final college season.

63. Nojel Eastern, JR, G, Purdue
A Big Ten All-Defensive Team selection a year ago, Eastern will be asked to up his offensive production now that All-American Carsen Edwards and senior sharpshooter Ryan Cline have moved on. Despite playing on the wing, Eastern led the Boilermakers in rebounding a year ago at 5.5 rpg.
62. Antoine Davis, SO, G, Detroit Mercy
The nation’s leading returning scorer at 26.1 ppg, Davis was outscored last season by only Campbell’s Chris Clemons (30 ppg) and Hofstra’s Justin Wright-Foreman (27 ppg). Davis became the first freshman ever to lead the Horizon League in scoring, and his 132 three-pointers broke the Division I record for triples by a freshman that had previously been held by Stephen Curry. Expect the coach’s son to fill it up at an even higher clip for the Titans this season.
61. Josh Green, FR, F, Arizona
Nico Mannion is the Arizona freshman everyone is talking about, but Green is going to get his fair share of headlines during the season as well. The Australian native is an off the charts athlete who has the potential to be the perfect running mate with Mannion in transition.
60. Neemias Queta, SO, C, Utah State
One of the nation’s most surprising freshman stars last season, Queta shattered Utah State’s previous single-season blocks record of 59 by swatting 84 in his first collegiate season. He also led the team in rebounding at 8.9 rpg and ranked second in scoring at 11.8 ppg. Expect Queta’s second season with the Aggies to be his last before bolting for the NBA.
59. Charles Bassey, SO, C, Western Kentucky
Everyone assumed Bassey’s first season at Western Kentucky would be his only season at Western Kentucky, but here we are. Bassey was the C-USA Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year after averaging a team-best 14.6 points, 10 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game in 2018-19. There aren’t many teams in the country, and there certainly isn’t another one in Conference USA, that have an inside presence who can do the types of things Bassey can do.
58. Kellan Grady, JR, G, Davidson
A First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection last season, Grady ranked third in the conference in scoring at 17.3 points per game. He eclipsed the 20-point mark on 13 occasions, including a 31-point effort in Davidson’s final game of the season, an NIT loss to Lipscomb.
57. Skylar Mays, SR, G, LSU
Mays was the only LSU player to start all 35 games last season, averaging 13.4 points per game for the SEC regular season champions. He’ll be asked to shoulder a larger chunk of the offensive load with Tremont Waters now cashing checks from the Boston Celtics.
56. Lamonte Turner, SR, G, Tennessee
Injuries delayed the start of Turner’s 2018-19, but the former SEC Sixth Man of the Year still wound up averaging 10.9 points, 3.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game on that loaded Volunteers squad. He’ll be asked to up that points per game average in his final collegiate season as Tennessee adjusts to life without Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield.

55. Grant Riller, SR, G, Charleston
An extremely safe bet to win CAA Player of the Year and finish in the top 10 nationally in scoring, Riller is coming off a junior season in which he averaged 21.9 ppg and shot just a hair short of 54 percent from the field. He set a single game school record when he scored 43 points in a 99-95 loss to Hofstra last February.
54. Derek Culver, SO, C, West Virginia
Bob Huggins was forced to throw his freshmen into the fire last season, and Culver came out looking like a true Targaryen. The big man averaged 11.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game on the season, and his eight double-doubles in conference play were the most of any player in the Big 12.
53. Reggie Perry, SO, F, Mississippi State
After flirting with a professional turn, Perry ultimately opted to return to Starkville after a freshman season in which he seemed to just brush the surface of his potential. He averaged a respectable 9.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, but struggled with consistency. That inconsistency figures to be a thing of the past if his play this summer — when he earned Most Valuable Player honors at the FIBA U19 World Cup — is any indication.
52. Marcus Evans, SR, G, VCU
Despite dealing with injuries throughout his college career, Evans has been a First Team All-Conference selection in each of his three collegiate seasons. A year ago, he averaged a team-high 13.6 points, 3.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game for a VCU squad that dominated the Atlantic 10.
51. James Akinjo, SO, G, Georgetown
Georgetown fans are heading into the 2019-20 season dreaming about a return to the Hoya glory of the 1980s (and 2007). The biggest reason why might be Akinjo, who earned Big East Freshman of the Year honors last season after averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 assists per game for a Georgetown team that surprised many by winning 19 games and finishing tied for third in the final league standings.
