I can hear it scratching at the walls again. I don't know why it wants in so badly. It knows there's no place for it anymore.

[long, groaning whisper, like that of an animal]

It's making that awful noise. Must be hard to speak without lungs. Almost feel bad for it.

That's not Keith. I know that. I mean, it is, but Keith is gone. That thing's just using his body. Hell, doesn't even look like him. The Keith I knew didn't have four legs and trees growing out of his insides.

It has his eyes. I guess that's the one thing it kept intact. They looked so...scared. Like he knew what was happening. I wonder if he does.

I feel like I need to open the door. To give him that, maybe as some kind of apology. It'd be the end of me, I know that, but that doesn't stop the feeling.

I wonder if anyone would mind if it killed me. They didn't care when he died, or when anyone before me died, or the fact that I've got ten fucking eyes now or that my friend is out there-

But here this witch was, rocking back and forth from heel to toe, and tapping her fingers together in front of her. She was young, and so new to magic that she didn’t even have a conduit yet, the poor thing. 

Gem tried to put her at ease, giving her honeycomb as a ‘first customer gift’, and it worked, somewhat. 

The witchling still had a flush to her face, cheeks and nose pink enough to match Gem’s dress, and a little concerning given how easy it is for most people to get a sunburn while in Dawn.

Gem waved goodbye, watching as the witch almost tripped over her feet while waving back at her. 

Such an odd little witch.
