1/30 Days of Devotion To Hestia
Day 1 - Basic Introduction
Hestia (Ἑστια - meaning Hearth) is the Greek goddess of the hearth, home, and family. She had few actual temples but instead presided over hearths in all homes, altars, and the cities. Prayers and sacrifices started and ended with Hestia which is a reoccurring pattern in her worship, such as honoring the first/last bites of a meal.
I have always appreciated her for years and recently I've decided to start incorporating her more officially in my life and I'm very excited to do so. I want to start focusing on household worship and I thought a Days of Devotion to Hestia would be a great way to really get me started.

Do you know any sources for learning about about worship of Iris and Hestia in Ancient Greece?
Thanks.
For works specialized on Hestia, I'd start with these two works below. One is a master's thesis, the other is an article:
The Study of the Concept of the Sacred Hearth and Greek Goddess of the Hearth and their Association with the Prytaneion, its Origins and its Development by Esra Çayir
Hestia Hearth, Goddess, and Cult by Mika Kajava
You can also take a look at the first section of this other Master's thesis but it is more focused on the comparative analysis of the ancient cult of Hestia and the modern Olympic Flame. And if you haven't already, don't forget to look for smaller sections about her in more general books on ancient cults (eg. Ancient Greek Cults A Guide by Jennifer Larson has a page on Hestia). It might not be very useful if you're looking for specialized studies, but it can help if you've just started researching her.
Iris is a more complex case since, as far as I know, we don't have any actual cultic evidence for her outside of literature and her link to Hera. There is this Master's thesis. However, I can't tell you much about it since I never had access to it in full. The table of content doesn't indicate anything about cult either. I would advise to probably take the angle of researching Hera in the hopes to find mentions of Iris as her messenger and retinue, but I'm also afraid that even then, we'd come back to a lack of material when it comes to actual cult.

On this solstice we honor the Theoi who rule the sun and fire
Hail to Helios and Apollo. The former who personifies the sun itself, drives his chariot everyday to ensure the continuation of its cycle, and captures the nourishing aspect of the sun. The latter who shines the light on what must be done in our lives so that we may move forward with courage and wisdom and inspires us to own our truth.
Hail to Hestia for the keeping the fire of the hearths intact that we may take care of hearths (metaphorical and literal) in our physical homes and the hearths that we carry in our hearts
Hail to Hephaestus, Prometheus and Apollo for the creative fire that inspires us to create and innovate our lives so that we see how much we can achieve with our own hands and the fire in our hearts
Hail to Hekate as Torchbearer who inspires us to be the guiding light in the lives of those who need it the most and for some ignites the spark of one’s witch fire.
Hail Theoi!

May Hestia be with all in those in quarantine and self-isolation.
May she bring comfort and peace to your homes, and warmth into your hearts and souls.
May she lay her gentle hands atop yours as you do what you must to stay happy and healthy in your home.
May she guide you and help you, in the satisfying chores and the necessary ones.
May she stand beside those trapped with people who make them unwell.
May she sooth your worries and protect you from harm.
May she be with you, and help your house feel like a home.
May Hestia be with you in whatever way you need.

Now I have to be more careful with how many candles I burn in offering to my Lady Hestia, it's renewed how much adoration I offer them with, and it's like I'm washed in the light from Her hearth, protected and guarded

“Hestia and Hermes belong to very archaic, pre-Hellenistic representations. Hestia is the hearth. In modern Greek, istia still means the hearth or the household. The name Hermes comes from herma, hermaion or hermaios lophos, heap of stone. Before he became an Olympian god, Hermes was the personification of lithoboly, the gesture of throwing stones on tombs. He was the heap of stone or the wooden pole on a grave, but also the phallos. Hermes unites death and fertility in one figure.“

Hi Jessie! I just noticed that in Basque the word eztia, which means honey and sweet, it's pronounced the same way as Hestia. What a sweet coincidence ❤️
Oh I love that!! <33333

Welcoming Hestia
12/25/23
All today, since 4am, I have been thinking about my path in Hellenic Polytheism. I have been feeling I'm in between chapters of where I am in it. I've always appreciated Hestia from afar and worshipped her almost quietly and in smaller pieces until lately she's been on my mind constantly. Today I have decided from much pondering and tarot cards that I'm ready to stick my hands into the metaphorical waterfall and take the plunge into starting to work with her more officially. I probably feel more determined and or specific about her than I ever have. I don't know why I feel shy or scared of it, I'm not scared of her. I find her very comforting. But something makes me hesitate with doing what I guess would be called devotion instead of my typical working with to any deity. I haven't felt this serious of an interest in a while if at all.
there's several things I would like to start doing in devotion to her or feelings that I have that she's pulling me towards. The New Year is coming and I feel welcomed by Hestia and I welcome her into my household. For now I will be switching a lot of my research to Hestia and Household worship along with doing the 15 Days Of Deity Devotion with her. Hello Hestia

“...and when we become evil we make the gods our enemies— not because they are angered against us, but because our sins prevent the light of the gods from shining upon us, and put us in communion with spirits of punishment.”
Sallustius, On the Gods and the World. Extract from Patrick Dunn’s The Practical Art of Divine Magic: Contemporary & Ancient Techniques of Theurgy.
I want all of you to read that extract many times, and understand the impact of it in our lives, and what we have been discussing about punishment and the Gods since we see a lot of dangerous experiences being told on TikTok. Sallustius explains it: when we “become evil” we make the gods our “enemies” —in the sense that we become the opposite of what they are: good, not in the sense of fighting with them, or them fighting with us—, because our sins (please do not read this word in the christian sense of “sin”. Sin here means almost literally criminal, narcissistic, abusing behavior. It means we are constantly rejecting goodness, justice, and wellbeing for ourselves and others. It does not mean making a small mistake, it means harming just for the sake of harming, it means not learning that we are acting wrong, it means choosing to not change) prevents us from coming close to them. This lowering of our “vibes” or our soul, prevents the Gods from reaching out to us. You can understand this in terms of miasma —not lyma— that gets you so obscure the Gods cannot reach out to you to help. The result is, that this lower vibration, this abandonment of the soul, puts you at danger of encountering “spirits of punishment” as Sallustius call them. These are lower spirits that focus on guilt, shame, and severity, instead of acceptance, change, and justice. This spirits may disguise themselves as deities.
The Gods don't punish you. You punish yourself by getting so far away from Them that you start being available for lower entities that can manipulate you.
The way to resolve this? Reach the Gods out. It won't be easy. Learn and change. Become better, and good. And you will have genuine experiences with genuine deities.

Thank you, Hestia, for the simple warmth of home.
Thank you for the quiet evenings chilling on the couch.
Thank you for the bliss of peacefully listening to music while doing chores on a Saturday morning.
Thank you for those moments of clarity that allow us to stay calm and make the kind decision, not the angry one.
Thank you for being the light to return to, even in the darkest of nights.
You bring kindness to life. You bring rest. You bring hope. And I shall do my best to share them with the world in your name 🧡
