I saw this cool mosaic of Dionysus (well, technically Bacchus) at a museum the other day. I love them so much 🥰

To those who have swept or have blown the leaves from the walk, have rinsed the dishes or dusted their screens, Hestia looks on you from beneath her veil. She smiles, then wraps a shawl made of sunlit October air around you.
To those who remain in bed, who are on the edge of crying, who have turned on the tv to drown out the world, Hestia sits on the edge of your bed, patting circles on your back. I know, my love, she says, I know, I know. It can be so hard. My sweet, it’s time to get up. I need you, she says. Let’s make this home a sanctuary. Light a candle. Make your hands to care about this place. Let out the work of love.

Aphrodite is the feeling of butterflies when meeting your long-distance lover for the very first time in-person. Aphrodite is the pounding in your chest when after your first kiss with someone you love. Aphrodite is the warmth you feel when cuddling with your lover go watch a movie. Aphrodite is the sweetness in the candy your lover gave you as a gift. Aphrodite is the longing to see them again, the pain of being away for too long. Aphrodite is the remorse in a leaving a partner, even if it was for the best. Aphrodite is the healing that comes with an ended relationship - focusing on making yourself happy first. Aphrodite is the love that you feel for yourself when you become your own partner.

I want time to be quiet. I want a week where there’s nothing expected of me. I want some light snowfall. I want a home I can rearrange the furniture with every season. To bring friends over to be warmed by the fireplace. I want to paint the walls. I want to curl into you until I feel my hurt fall asleep. I want to pluck rosemary from the windowsill. I want to feel comfort again. I want so much space in my heart for the light to fill.

theoi moodboard →  Ἑστία / Hestia
Hestia, in the high dwellings of all, both deathless gods and men who walk on earth, you have gained an everlasting abode and highest honor: glorious is your portion and your right! For without you, mortals hold no banquet–where one does not duly pour sweet wine in offering to Hestia both first and last.

My adaptation of the God of Arepo short story, which was originally up at ShortBox Comics Fair for charity. You can get a copy of the DRM-free ebook here for free - and I'd encourage you to donate to Mighty Writers or The Ministry of Stories in exchange.
Again it's an honour to be drawing one of my favourite short stories ever. Thank you so much for the original authors for creating this story; and for everyone who bought a copy and donated to the above non-profits.

I adore you, mother of the weary wanderer
I adore you, my most beautiful matron, mother who I was never allowed to have.
You are with me as I dance across my kitchen, baking and singing, thanking the universe for the family I’ve made for myself.
You are with me with every new endeavor I undergo and, consequently, every burnt batch of cookies and under-cooked meal.
You are with me in every quick conversation with friends who I get to see far to rarely.
You are with me always and I adore you Flame-Keeper, Heart of Home and Hearth, Spiritual Mother of mine.
Oh how I adore you, Hestia, Flame of Olympus

Hestia:
I imagine her robed in warm colors, wrapped, like my grandmother, in soft warm flannel, and a threadbare apron, a streak of flour on her forehead where she used the heel of her hand to push back the wisps of hair that had escaped her bun. I imagine her standing over a stove, lifting the lids of pots and pan, tasting and then seasoning with an expert flick of her wrist. I imagine her holding out the tasting spoon to me, asking, “Taste this; Do you think it needs anything?”

Dionysus would be the god of parties, yes, but he's also the god of knowing your limits in things like that. He knows when you've had enough to drink, when you're on the verge of drinking yourself to sleep or worse. He's the little voice telling you to put it down, to stop, to drink some water.
Yeah he likes to party, but you can't do that if you're blacked out or dead. He loves you and would be the ONLY person trusted to hold your drink.
He would check in with you every 30 minutes, he would drive you home and not make you embarrassed the next morning, he would wake you up with a good breakfast, lots of water and meds to keep you well. He knows which people are not to be trusted and would GLADLY bodyslam them if they were to try anything at his parties.
Yes he's the god of parties and excess and alcohol and sex. But He's probably also the god of limits too. And if he's not, it's Hermes, god of boundaries.

— casual ways to connect with deities
pray to them
straight up just talk to them, tell them about your day
offer some of your meal to them (or alternatively, the steam from your meal)
cook with them and/or for them
pick a movie to watch with them, especially if it connects to things they rule over (i.e. a romcom with hera or aphrodite, a documentary about the sea for poseidon, etc)
give them the first sip of your morning drink, or even make a cup for them
assign them a stuffed animal and take care of it as a devotion to them (bonus points if that animal is sacred to them or if you associate it with them)
say good morning/good night
thank them for the things you see (i.e. thanking apollo when you see a pretty sunrise/sunset, thank hypnos for a good night’s sleep, etc)
blow kisses to them
