Hi Acacia! 💕
Could I have 1, 15 and 24 for your ask game?
Hi Lola! I'm always so excited to hear from you. Thank you so much for the ask and for playing this writing excerpt game! 🥰 I chose exclusively from my BC library for you and hope you’ll enjoy these 💕
1 An excerpt of my writing that makes me smile
If you'll indulge me, I think I'll pick two! ^^ Since I just reread this and have really been thinking about Lorelei a lot recently, here is a snippet from "Lucky" which tells the backstory of how Henry and Lorelei first met when they were children (he's 10 years old and she is 9 here). It was fun writing about a little bitty Henry and giving him a friend since he's so lonely. Just one of those wholesome stories that gave me a lot of warm & fuzzies to write! 💕
Henry’s cheeks turned a bit rose when he realized what he had said, but Lorelei just laughed. “So you’re a mind reader? Can you tell me how I’m feeling right now?” Henry pursed his lips together. It usually didn’t work the way Lorelei thought. He mainly picked up on subtle differences and changes in mana signatures. What she was asking him to do know would essentially be reading her mind, but… “I can try.” Closing his eyes, Henry took a deep breath and searched for Lorelei’s mana. Once again he was struck by how warm it was in the softest, most gentle way. He could almost think of what it reminded him of, but he still couldn’t put a word to it. And he certainly couldn’t figure out her emotion from it. “I don’t know…” he admitted at last with a defeated sigh. He decided to make an educated guess. “Disappointed?” He would have been disappointed if he was her given the circumstances and the fact she would be stuck with him in this dreary old house when they grew up. “No,” she replied, and he could hear the smile in her voice. “I’m happy.” “Why?” The question slipped out before he could stop it. “Because you’re Henry Legolant, and you’re nice. I guess I really am lucky.” Henry’s face flushed a deep red, and he stumbled over his words until he eventually managed to choke out, “Lucky?” “Mhmm…like my magic. It’s lucky magic, and even if it’s weak, it still makes good things happen for me. Like when I almost fell down the stairs, but you saved me. And my parents picking out a stranger for me to marry when I get older, but he’s actually really nice and my friend.” “Friend?” Henry repeated the word incredulously. He shook his head in disbelief. Had she really said they were…? Could they really be friends? “Of course we’re friends, silly,” Lorelei chuckled, and Henry blushed red as he wondered if it was, in fact, Lorelei who could read minds. He felt the heat rising in his cheeks as a warmth began to spread through his chest; however, he stared down at his twisting hands and bit his lip. “I’ve…I’ve never had a friend before...” Lorelei hummed. “Well…you’ve got one now,” she replied as if it was the most natural thing in the world, and Henry could feel her sincerity in the flickers of her kind, comforting mana. As it swirled around him almost like a warm blanket, a smile tugged at his mouth, and he realized what it was her mana reminded him of. It felt like a home—the kind that he had only read about. Somewhere warm, cozy, and safe filled with family and friends who cared for each other. It was only a distant dream for Henry, but…now he had a friend so, perhaps, he could have a home someday too.
I also wanted to include an excerpt from "First Christmas" which is a fluffy little story about all the future Black Bulls celebrating together and trying to make the holiday truly special for Yami and Charlotte's son (since it's his very first one!). This snippet has some YamiChar and Rillmy, so it especially makes me smile! ^^
“Hey!” protested Finral. “You guys are so mean to me. You’re both married and no one ever gives you a hard time about it.”  “That’s because Rill is wonderful”—Charmy beamed at him—“there’s nothing to give me a hard time about, and we were all waited for years for the Captain and Charlotte to get together. When they finally did, we were just so relieved that they had stopped being so dense.” “Charmy, Rill didn’t even know who you were for how long…” bantered Vanessa. “We actually told him that you were his ‘food goddess,’ and he still didn’t get it. I don’t think you get to tease anyone for being dense.”  “That was a mistake,” said Rill apologetically. “But I know who she is now, and we’re very happy!” Finral patted him on the shoulder. “It’s okay. These things happen.” “He’s still not as dense as Captain Yami,” said Zora dryly. “Listen, I got married before any of you morons so I don’t think I’m the dense one here.” The room grew suddenly quiet as the entire squad just blinked at him. Yami frowned, as Charlotte’s cheeks flushed. She had learned pretty quickly that the Black Bulls had been waiting for her and Yami to get together for almost as long as she had, but she was still getting used to getting teased about it. “She was sending me a lot of mixed signals, okay? I was just trying to be respectful.” Vanessa snorted a laugh before she rolled her eyes. “They weren’t mixed signals. She was totally into you—even Magna noticed.” “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean? I notice things!” “We were honestly starting to get worried it was never going to happen,” teased Vanessa with a wink, completely ignoring Magna’s protests. “But you figured it out, and now you have this little one.” She turned to Charlotte with a smile, and as ran her hand across Katsu’s back, he turned to look at her with wide blue eyes that looked far older than his years. “And he’s such a cutie! Do you think he’s ready to be held again?” Charlotte nodded as she held Katsu out to her and said, “Sure. Go ahead” to the wide-spread protestations of the rest of the squad who were promptly told to wait their turns. Smiling brightly, Vanessa took the baby and began walking around with him to show off the decorations. “Hi Katsu. Aren’t you just the cutest little man? You look just like your dad—especially with all this messy dark hair. If only we could get him in a Christmas sweater like this.”  Yami frowned. “Don’t even think about it.”
15. An excerpt of my writing from an old piece that I like
I've decided to choose an excerpt from the first Black Clover fanfiction I ever wrote, Yellow Flowers, (I think only the first chapter is posted to Tumblr, but all 3 chapters are on AO3 and my old FFN account). This fic is my take on the backstory of how Vanessa and Finral became friends shortly after Vanessa joined the Black Bulls, and I'm still really proud of it, even though I think I have a much better grasp on the characters now. This whole scene in final chapter is probably my favorite in the piece, but here's just a snippet of it:
Inhaling sharply, Finral's voice hitched. He turned his entire body away from her, but Vanessa watched as his shoulders began to shake. He sniffled and wiped his hand across his face, and she wondered if he was crying. She stared at him, frozen, her breath getting caught in her lungs and her insides twisting—a pang in her chest. She had felt this once before. Once, when she was in the market with Gordon, she had seen a lost child sobbing and wailing for his mother. She had tried to will her legs to move—to go over and comfort him—but she had frozen, just like this. By the time, she had managed to take a step forward, the boy’s mother had come running towards him and took him into her arms, crying herself. Vanessa had been so relieved, but it had struck a nerve in her and she couldn’t help but think of all the children who didn’t have a family to love them—whose cries went unheard and who were all alone—children like her…like Finral. When she looked at him now, all she could see was a lost, crying child, beaten down so many times with those words: useless, worthless, coward—until he believed them. Her arms seemed to move on their own as she wrapped them around Finral—holding him tightly. “Va…Vanessa,” he half-gasped, half-choked, and Vanessa pulled back slightly. She had never hugged anyone before and worried it had made him uncomfortable. She was beginning to wonder if she should have asked him first, when his stiff shoulders softened and he wrapped his arms around her. Her eyes widened. She had never been hugged either. Since they were around the same height, she pressed her chin to his shoulder and pulled him close. She could feel him shaking—hear his shallow breathing, and she knew he was crying. Something prickled behind her eyes. She didn’t know what to say. She felt…helpless. “I’m so sorry” was all she could manage.   Eventually, he broke away from her wiping his eyes with a breathy, self-deprecating chuckle, “You must think I’m pretty pathetic...” “No,” answered Vanessa shaking her head. “You’re not pathetic at all. Your family is wrong about you. You aren’t useless. Your magic is defensive because you don’t want to hurt anyone—because you’re kind—and it’s incredible. I spent most of my life wishing for magic that could take me anywhere. If I had a power like that…” Vanessa’s voice trailed as she smiled bitter-sweetly off at the horizon. Her voice wavering, she let out a shaky sigh before she continued, “And running away—leaving your House—doesn’t mean you’re weak. Just think about it, you just decided to pack up your things and leave that awful place. You didn’t even have to be rescued…” She paused as her hands trembled, and the words got stuck in the back of her throat. “There are…a lot of people who aren’t strong enough to do that, and the fact that you did…that doesn’t mean that you’re a coward”—her voice hitched—“It means that you’re brave.” His watery eyes widening in shock, Finral’s jaw fell slightly slack. “Brave?” he whispered almost as if he didn’t believe it, and Vanessa nodded. Finral’s face was already red from crying, but she could tell a blush had filled his cheeks as a small smile formed in the corners of his mouth. “I’ve…never been called that before...” He chuckled lightly as his voice trailed. “Thank you, Vanessa.” Vanessa shrugged, but her face flushed. “That’s what friends are for, right?”
24. An excerpt of my writing that makes me go "huh...i wrote that?!"
I don't think I've ever mentioned this on Tumblr before, but I have a very cheeky Black Clover "Choose Your Own Adventure" story called "Surviving The House Vaude Soap Opera." (It was never posted to Tumblr so this is an AO3 link). You are Finral, and it's very silly, purposefully melodramatic, and tongue-in-cheek--definitely not supposed to be taken seriously at all. It started out as an actual game I created with my sister so it's designed to be read with a dice for really randomizing things, but you can also just pick the numbers you want 😅 Obviously it doesn't include every possibility but there are several endings and several possible pairings in there. It's fun but far and away the most wild thing I've ever written for Black Clover and I still can't believe I wrote it.
Here are some excerpts because I amuse myself...(each indented segment is a totally separate thing)
You realize the love of your friends is the only love you will ever need, and you live a long, happy, and unmarried life as uncle to all of the Black Bulls’ children. The… Who are we kidding here?! Roll the Dice.
You are too scared to express your feelings, so you run off to the Forest of Poisonous Beasts to hide out until Mereoleona Vermillion (who has money riding on this relationship) drags you out of there by force and makes you confess. To your shock, Vanessa reciprocates your affections and soon accepts your proposal. You marry. Mereoleona gets her money, and you’re so indebted to her that you name your daughter after her. The End.
Langris suddenly appears and goes off on you for always trying to steal girls from him—why can’t you just find some of your own? he argues failing to recognize that Vanessa was your friend first. It’s like some parallel universe when Langris insists that this time you just have a duel to determine who gets to marry her instead of drawing the whole thing out. He beats you easily and, then, marries Vanessa. To this day you can’t figure out his motives, but you like to think they’re happy and didn’t just marry out of spite or something. You settle down at House Vaude with Lady Finesse and live a quiet, happy life together believing that all’s well that ends well, right? The End.
Your brother Langris in a shocking display of kindness realizes you and Lady Finesse are deeply in love and out of the goodness of his heart—which you always believed he had (despite evidence to the contrary)—decides to step aside so the two of you can marry.
Langris snaps at you that it’s none of your business and deflects the question before admitting that he can’t be with the woman he loves anyway so it doesn’t matter. Langris is capable of love? You’re so shocked and confused but desperately want to know the identity of this mystery woman. You push Langris for answers, but he refuses to tell you.
You think some “liquid courage” may help you express your feelings to Vanessa and ask her to have a drink with you. After way more than just “a drink,” you end up kind of yelling “I love you!” at her in a drunken stupor and asking her to marry you to which she points out that the two of you are already married.
In this category of "Huh? I wrote that?" there's also the entirety of Spite (but let's not talk about that...)

Hi Erika! For your ship game, can I get your thoughts on Obanai x Mitsuri (kny), Jellal x Erza (Fairy Tail), Lumiere x Secre (BC), and if I can be a little bold (and because I’m very curious), Henry x my oc Lorelei? Also, if you haven’t gotten asked about them Nacht x Josele (but I’m sure you’ve been asked already). Please 💖 Thank you! (Sorry if that is too much 😅)
😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈
Oh Acacia, you absolutely SPOIL ME! 🥰💖
Buckle up, folks, this’ll be a long post.
…..
To start, there shall be a trend in these ships that boils down to “brooder and comforter.” One half of the couple is a bit (or maybe a lot) down on themselves and their partner is the warm embrace they need in life. The dynamic will forever and always be beautiful to me, just as much as “two pure sweethearts.”
Obanai x Mitsuri
Makes sense and 1000% compelled by it.
Obviously Obanai and Mitsuri fit that to a tee! Obanai is very clearly a broody boy and he states outright that Mitsuri saved him with her cheerfulness and smile. But it would be a massive disservice to the ship to ignore that Obanai also was Mitsuri's comforter in a way. She felt the way that he looked at her with affection whenever they were together which meant the world to her since she felt like it would be hard to love. They never judged each other and felt loved with one another and AAAAHHHHH HADKJHFLKAUHEILTHALEKTHKAEJG!
I know I've brought this up in the past but it bears repeating that I love this ship so much that I managed to work it into a college paper about depictions of (failed) romance in Japanese literature. Because, well, in a sense Obanai and Mitsuri's love wasn't successful. Let me share a bit of that essay to get my point across.
This mutual but unrecognized love is best described by the chapter title revealing Obanai’s backstory. The Japanese title is “hitsūna renjō” (悲痛な恋情) which I would translate as “a painful, miserable romance.” Mitsuri and Obanai’s feelings of self-loathing make their love a painful burden on their hearts. Even their confession is ultimately tragic, as both are in tears and on the cusp of death when their feelings come out.
Then again, the cycle of reincarnation allowed that love to continue and be acted upon. Still, this ship makes me VIBRATE with all the emotions. It's so unfair that Gotoge was able to invest me in this romance with only brief snippets and a small reassuring epilogue. And then the fandom just hammers the stake deeper into my heart. ObaMitsu. Beloved ship~!
.....
Jellal x Erza
OOOOHHHHHH! Man, it's been forever and a half since I really watched Fairy Tail but Jerza is that ship that sticks with you (and Gajevy but that wasn't the ship asked for, now was it).
So much sense is made with the ship and it'll never not compel me.
Again, Jellal is the more blatant brooder but Erza has plenty of moments of hitting low points (and it's usually over Jellal). And again, they both act as a source of hope in each other's lives. These two knew each other as kids and they made strong impressions on each other clearly. I mean, Jellal made some strong impressions on many people for a variety of not good reasons... ANYWAYS! It makes so much sense that Erza is always holding out hope for Jellal because his turn to darkness back in the day was very out of the blue so deep down in her heart, she'd know that something wasn't quite right. And even as she loves him, Erza expects Jellal to take responsibility for his actions. You talked about it yourself when discussing this ship but with Jerza, their personal feelings don't immediately mean Jella's sins/crimes can be ignored. He has to work to right them and fix himself. Jellal changes not because he's browbeaten into it but because he wants to be better for Erza. And Jellal isn't the only one changing. Erza is able to open up and let herself wish a little more because the trauma of their history is slowly being healed. Their love is such a journey. Multiple times they're pulled apart before finding each other again. And each time they meet, they heal a little more, grow a little closer.
.....
Lumiere x Secre
I won't say as much about these two as the others but I'm still a sucker for them!
In this case, Secre is the brooding soul while Lumiere is her comfort. She looked down on herself and her magic while Lumiere saw potential and inspiration. Lumiere gave Secre something to hope for and she gave him devotion. The way Secre's love endures over the centuries and she remembers to have hope from Lumiere's example is something that makes their love really special without them ever having to be in a relationship. We don't get Lumiere's perspective on Secre directly but the fact that he named his super special magic tool (the big spherical one) after her says quite a bit to me. She's important and special and helpful in Lumiere's eyes. Secre living on while Lumiere moves onto the afterlife is sad but he wishes her more happiness in a continuing future, even without him. It's an ending of separation but not of mourning and it's beautiful (even if I wish Lumiere could've stuck around).
.....
Henry x Lorelei
UwU CC x OC time~!
I actually did read the fic where they meet a bit ago. It's just in my queue for reblogging. But ooooooohhhhhhh! I CAN GUSH HERE!
So I will be real, there is one detail of the ship that doesn't make sense to me. But that's Tabata's fault for making it that even low mana people feel drained by an extended exposure to Henry's mana draining. It's just unfair that really no one but Asta can safely be around him with his curse in place. So it's not on you. You made every other aspect of the ship wonderful. Henry definitely would fall for someone as openly sweet as Lorelei and her sense of whimsy is a wonderful complement to Henry's loneliness. The way he so shyly begins to talk to her is so in character and I think adding Lorelei to Henry's backstory helps explain why he's easily able to just talk to Yami and later Asta since he now has experience meeting someone new. Lorelei's Lucky Magic seems interesting (and fits in with David's Dice Magic) and well, I think it brought luck to both her and Henry. And do I even need to say it but this ship got me hooked with one fic. It may need more time in the microwave before it finds a permanent spot in my heart but... I'm digging the vibes already.
…..
Nacht x Josele
YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!
I’ve talked Nacsele before for the ask game but I’m gonna talk again!
GAAAAHHHH! The way Nacht always loved Josele and was content(?) to simply love her from afar... Josele harboring her love for Nacht when she felt he didn't love her back... It gets so messy when she's with Morgen because he truly did make her happier than words could say. But half of Josele's heart was with Nacht. And when they finally get together, after much heartache and soul searching and doubting, it's gorgeous. Nacht is so hesitant about the relationship that he doesn't even call Josele his girlfriend for a while because he still sees Josele as Morgen's love. Josele too was hesitant, not wanting to risk her happiness being destroyed again, but once she got a talking to from one of the Bulls, she embraced the chance to be with Nacht and helps him with his steps into the future.
AND I LOVE THEIR FUTURE TOGETHER! Josele never really stops mourning Morgen and the future they could've had. But she doesn't lose sight of the future she's attained with Nacht. She loves Nacht and the way he's able to forgive himself. And Nacht accepts that Josele will always have Morgen in her heart, he really wouldn't have it any other way. Nacht slowly but surely frees himself of his guilt and self-loathing to full embrace all the affection that Josele always had for him.
My ship... I love...
..........
AND I LOVED TALKING ABOUT AAAAALLLLL THESE SHIPS! AAADJHGLKHAIUHAETKJHAETUHUI!

A/N: After my OC Lorelei Swallow (OC Profile linked here) appeared in "A Family Where There Once Was None," I really wanted to write something that was more centric on her, so this is a one shot from "If My Heart Was A House," my (as of now unpublished and unfinished) story series about the relationship between Lorelei Swallow and Henry Legolant. "Lucky" is really the backstory of how she and Henry met and became friends as children, and it is written from Henry's point of view.
Story below the cut. Please let me know what you think if you're so inclined, and thank you so much for reading! 🥰
16 Years Ago…
Henry Legolant had always had a keen mana sense. Even his family who wanted very little to do with him thought it was impressive for a ten-year-old. He supposed it was a more positive side-effect of the mana-depleting illness he had had his whole life—possibly the only positive side-effect. After all, his illness had kept him lonely and isolated from other people, but sensing their mana, knowing where they were in the house helped him to still feel connected to them in a way. Though he rarely saw or talked to his parents he knew their footsteps and could feel their mana—how it rolled off his father in formidable, frosty waves and swirled around his mother in uneven spurts and splutters. He could sense their mana now—emanating from several floors below him, but there were two new mana signatures with them: a forceful, commanding tornado and a sparking, buzzing presence.
This puzzled Henry as his mother and father rarely entertained guests and never brought them to the country house which, they made no secret, existed merely to hide him. He wondered what they were doing here. Perhaps they were new doctors his parents were bringing to examine him? Henry sighed. He doubted they would be able to do much to help him, even if they were well-meaning. For his entire life, he had been told that there was nothing to be done about his mana-depleting illness besides to keep him away from other people, and so he had been isolated in the country house. Though he was glad that he wasn’t hurting anyone by staying by himself, it did get lonely with only the birds outside his window to talk to. He hoped someday he’d get to have an actual friend, but even wishing for it made him feel guilty. His illness being what it was, he was cursed to be alone forever.
Henry startled. There was a sudden shift of mana in the house—that kind of terrified spike that could only be caused by fear in the face of peril or danger. Sitting up in bed with a start, he paused—closing his eyes and staying perfectly still as he tried to isolate where the mana was. This mana was different than the others—much fainter even with the added intensity of panic. It was so weak that it must’ve been drowned out by the much strong mana signatures earlier. Still, Henry mentally kicked himself for not picking up on it before. His mana sense was the one thing in the world he had going for him, and he couldn’t even get that to work right.
Henry shook his head forcefully. Now was not the time to be thinking of that. He closed his eyes even more tightly, walking through the corridors and staircases of the house in his mind until he finally found the mana signature on the southeast stairwell.
Henry inhaled sharply. Someone must be falling down the stairs.
His head pounded, but he tried as urgently as he could to rearrange the southeast wing of the house so that even if someone was mid-fall they would land safely. He even carried several soft, feather pillows into the new staircase landing by bouncing them across rippling floorboards. Then, he pursed his lips together and waited. Waited and hoped.
He closed his eyes again, trying to pick up that faint mana signature again, and he sighed in relief when he felt the panicked spike of mana subside, replaced with gentle calm waves. Though the mana signature was still the faintest he had ever encountered, he could tell now that it was flickering and warm like the light of a dim candle.
Henry’s eyes widened. He had never felt warm mana before. It was so cozy and inviting like…He couldn’t quite think of the right word for it, but…
“No,” he said aloud to only himself. He needed to turn his focus to stronger mana, back to his father or that new tornado presence near to him downstairs. Maybe then his illness wouldn’t drain the already faint mana out of this person. If their mana was a flickering candle, he would surely snuff it out in an instant, and something so warm and so beautiful deserved to be preserved. His heart raced, and he began to shiver as he closed his eyes and tried to find his father’s mana instead. Was he still downstairs in the sitting room? Or maybe the dining room? Or…?
“Hello?” called a distant voice pulling Henry from his thoughts. “Hello? Is someone there?”
It sounded like a woman’s voice, but…no. Not quite a woman’s voice—it was younger and higher pitched. Perhaps a girl? Henry had never actually heard what a girl sounded like before so he couldn’t know for sure.
“Is this house haunted? Is that why the stairs and the walls and floors moved around?” the voice continued. Henry’s stomach coiled. Was she talking to him?
“Are you a ghost? Or more of a guardian angel? Or just a magical house?” she prattled on. There was no fear in her mana despite her talking about ghosts and haunted houses. If anything it was even warmer than before—almost friendly. The word popped into Henry’s head from somewhere in a book he had read once. He shook his head as if he could somehow shake the thought away with it.
“I’m going to guess…” She hummed thoughtfully. “A magical house? Am I right? Are you a magical house?” She paused for a moment, but his lack of response didn’t seem to deter her. “Thank you for saving me, Magical House.”
Henry felt a blush rising in his cheeks though he wasn’t entirely sure why. Perhaps it was because he had never been thanked for anything before. The words slipped out before he could stop them, “You’re welcome.”
The voice gasped, and Henry covered his mouth with his hands as his face grew suddenly hot. He could sense the girl’s mana nearby. She was in the same corridor as he was, so she must’ve heard him. His heart started pounding again, and his hands trembled. He shouldn’t have done that. His parents would likely be incredibly angry with him. Should he rearrange the house again so she wouldn’t find him? Henry sighed. He wasn’t really supposed to have done that the first time. His parents didn’t want him to use his recombination magic when they were in the house. He hoped they would understand why he had to intervene the first time to protect that girl midfall, but would rearranging things again be justified? And what if he frightened the girl? But if he didn’t move her or himself to another part of the house, then—?
“You’re a magical, talking house?” the girl interrupted his thoughts. “That’s amazing! I’ve never talked to a house before. It’s nice to meet you. My name is Lorelei. Do you have a name, Mr. House?”
Henry sighed. He knew he probably shouldn’t talk to Lorelei anymore but decided that not replying would be rude so he said, “I’m Henry.
“Well thank you for saving me, Henry!”
Her voice was exuberant, cheerful, and grateful enough to make him blush a little. Henry fidgeted. “It’s really no trouble, and…” He stopped himself. He didn’t know if he should correct her and explain that he was actually a boy, not a house.
“It was a lot of trouble for me,” chuckled Lorelei, filling the silence. “Though I guess you wouldn’t really know since I bet you don’t have a lot of problems with falling down and being clumsy since you’re a house and all. My mother and father say I have two left feet, and I’m always tripping over myself. I was going to fall on my face if you hadn’t saved me, but you did. That was very nice of you.”
Well, actually, I…” he stopped. Once again, he was going to try to explain that he wasn’t actually a house, but he supposed he didn’t have much experience with falling down stairs and being clumsy as a human boy either since he spent most of his time lying down in bed.
Lorelei it seemed, however, hadn’t even heard him since she was still thoughtfully prattling, “I bet a house has other kinds of problems—like bad weather or mice living in walls or cracked tiles. Have you been a house for a long time, Henry? I’ve only been a girl for nine years.”
“So you’re nine years old?” Henry’s mouth twitched in the corners, so she was a girl.
Lorelei laughed. “Yes, but I have a birthday coming up. Then I’ll be ten.”
“I’m ten.”
“Really? I would have thought you were older.” She paused. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude. You’re a very beautiful house, Henry.”
Henry chuckled quietly but clearly not quietly enough since Lorelei asked, clearly perplexed, “What’s so funny? I meant what I said. Your bricks are very sturdy, and your floors are shiny. A lot of your walls are a pretty color too.”
“Thank you,” Henry replied a bit sheepishly. “But—”
“But nothing,” interrupted Lorelei. “You’re a very nice house and you’re magical and you can talk. I would want to live in you, but the Lord and Lady Legolant already live here, so I can’t.” She paused briefly before adding, “Well… maybe I can someday because I’m going to marry their son when I grow up.”
Henry gasped. His face grew suddenly hot. What? She was going to…what? “But…I…uh…he’s really sick and…um…probably won’t live to grow up,” stumbled Henry unsure how exactly to even respond to that information.
“I know,” said Lorelei otherwise unphased. “But if he does…”
“No,” Henry interjected far more forcefully than he meant to. After a couple of deep breaths, he repeated much more calmly, “I mean…um…” He stopped. He wasn’t sure what he meant. What were his parents thinking? He couldn’t even be in the same room as another person without completely draining their mana—he certainly couldn’t be married, and Lorelei’s mana…it was so faint already and so warm. He could never snuff it out—could never put himself in a situation where he accidentally could. “Your mana…”
Lorelei cut him off with a good-natured laugh. “Oh, that’s why they thought I’d be a good fit. I don’t really have a lot of it so his sickness shouldn’t affect me too much.”
Henry sighed in relief almost in spite of himself. He certainly hoped she was right, but there was really no way of knowing, was there?
“And since I don’t have a lot of mana no one else wanted to marry me so my parents are happy too,” she continued. “They’re going to sign all the contracts today to make it official or at least talk about them or something, but we won’t get married until we’re a lot older.” Lorelei paused. “Have you gotten to meet him before, Henry? I hope he’s nice.”
Henry’s face flushed. “Um…well…I…I think he is or at least he tries to be.”
“That’s good. I’m trying to remember his name… Mother and Father said it during the carriage ride over here, but I can’t remember…Harry? No. That’s not right…”
Henry swallowed hard, and his heart began to pound. If he really was going to marry this girl one day, it probably wouldn’t be best for him to start things off by lying to her. “It’s…um…Henry.”
“Really?” gasped Lorelei. “His name is Henry, too? Is he named after you or are you named after him?”
Henry fidgeted and bit his lip. “Neither. Um…” He swallowed hard. “I’m Henry Legolant…and not a house,” he added for good measure.
There was a long, heavy pause, and Henry began to twist his hands. It was possibly the longest pause of his whole ten years, made even longer by the fact he could sense the change in her mana—suddenly uncomfortable though he couldn’t tell if that was from embarrassment or disappointment. “I’m sorry,” he continued in sincere apology, hoping that that would make her happy again, but it earned him only confusion.
“Why are you sorry? I’m the silly goose who thought you were a talking house.” She chuckled lightly. “Sorry about that.”
“It’s okay.”
“I’m glad that you’re a person, but…” She hummed. “How did the house move?”
“Oh, that was my recombination magic,” explained Henry. “It can move anything in the house.”
He rattled the floorboards in the corridors as a demonstration for her, and she laughed and applauded. “That’s wonderful, but how did you know I was going to fall? Can you see the future?”
“No, but I have a sharp mana sense because of my illness, so I could um…feel that you were falling.” He knew that must sound very strange to Lorelei, but he wasn’t sure how else to explain it.
“You can sense my mana? But I don’t have a lot…”
“No, but it’s really warm and changes when you have strong feelings—like the fear of falling.”
Henry’s cheeks turned a bit rose when he realized what he had said, but Lorelei just laughed. “So you’re a mind reader? Can you tell me how I’m feeling right now?”
Henry pursed his lips together. It usually didn’t work the way Lorelei thought. He mainly picked up on subtle differences and changes in mana signatures. What she was asking him to do know would essentially be reading her mind, but… “I can try.”
Closing his eyes, Henry took a deep breath and searched for Lorelei’s mana.
“I’m happy.”
“Why?” The question slipped out before he could stop it.
“Because you’re Henry Legolant, and you’re nice. I guess I really am lucky.”
Henry’s face flushed a deep red, and he stumbled over his words until he eventually managed to choke out, “Lucky?”
“Mhmm…like my magic. It’s lucky magic, and even if it’s weak, it still makes good things happen for me. Like when I almost fell down the stairs, but you saved me. And my parents picking out a stranger for me to marry when I get older, but he’s actually really nice and my friend.”
“Friend?” Henry repeated the word incredulously.
“I’ve…I’ve never had a friend before...”
Lorelei hummed.
Henry sniffled at the thought. It was more than he could bring himself to hope for right now, but still, a smile spread across his face and he couldn’t help but feel that even if it was Lorelei who had the “Lucky Magic,” for the first time in his life, he was the one who was truly lucky.

And y'know what? 27 and 45 for any ship you want to indulge. 😤💖 I'm happy to listen you gush about your faves
Thank you so much for this ask, Laura, and for playing the ship ask game! 🥰
I feel so spoiled, and I'm not sure which ship to pick, honestly. 😅💖 I was going to go with Rillmy (my OTP of Black Clover), but I have gotten a few asks about them for this game, so I think I ought to go with a different relationship here (it's only fair to give the others a chance too even if Rillmy is my favorite 😁). I also considered writing some headcanons about my CC x OC ship, Henry Legolant x (my OC) Lorelei Swallow, but since I don't talk about my OCs a lot and I've only written about them a little bit so far, I didn't think they'd fall under the "any ship" umbrella category as intended. 😅 So instead, I decided to write some headcanons about a ship between only canon characters, David Swallow x Letoile Becquerel. I (secretly) really, really love them and I don't think I have ever talked about them before so I will gladly take this opportunity. 😂💖 Thank you so much again for that and for the ask!
Answers are below the cut because the post is a bit lengthy.
Ship Ask: David Swallow x Letoile Becquerel
27. How do they say “I love you” non-verbally?
In my mind, neither David nor Letoile are particularly big on verbal expressions of love. Neither of them are against it, but I think they would both prefer to express their love through their actions rather than with their words. For Letoile, words feel very cheap and very empty if they don't have actions to back them up, and I think David (for all of his bravado and big personality) actually feels kind of awkward about expressing his feelings with the words "I love you" (even if he does express love verbally in other ways through compliments and encouragement).
David expresses his love non-verbally with his time. No matter how busy he is, he always makes a point to carve out time for him and Letoile to spend together. He loves planning activities for them to do, spontaneous little trips, and fun experiences they can share. Letoile isn't usually the biggest fan of surprises, so they sometimes have to compromise on that (i.e. he tells her that he's going to take her somewhere for the weekend and enough about the place & the weather so she'll know what to pack even if he doesn't tell her exactly where they are going 😁). As a couple, I think they both value their independence so they don't do everything together, but it's really important to David to get to share a lot of things with Letoile and, at least in my mind, a big moment for him in realizing that he loves her, is him first realizing that he wants to share so much of his life and all of these experiences with her. He really does just want to be with her all the time (or at least most of the time).
Letoile expresses her love non-verbally through acts of service. David can be a little proud and not ask for help all that often, but she can tell when he's struggling and will offer to lend a hand, which he'll often take her up on. He actually told her he loved her for the first time in a sleep deprived daze and frazzled relief when she stepped in and "saved him" from scrambling over a mission report for Golden Dawn he had forgotten about. Eventually when they marry and have a family, they tend to split the housework equally, but Letoile will often quietly surprise David by taking care of some of his laundry or helping out with some of the chores he was supposed to do (especially if he is exceptionally busy or rundown). She is also fantastic at taking care of him when he's sick (though she doesn't baby him or allow him to baby himself 😅).
45. How do they support each other? How do they rely on each others support?
Despite being so different in personality and not always seeing eye to eye, I like to think that David and Letoile actually do have a lot of respect for each other and are very supportive of each other (even if they do occasionally argue). I think David's support is very loud and exuberant--kind of like a cheerleader, whereas Letoile's support is more quiet but steady like a support beam or firm foundation where David can "safely land" when he tries to reach for the stars.
In some of my headcanons for the future, I imagine that Letoile eventually becomes the Golden Dawn's Captain (or whatever the squad will be called by then), and no matter what happens to them (if they end up together or just stay friends) David is so incredibly proud or her and goes around talking her up to everyone. I think this is especially true in a world where they're married--he's just telling anyone who will even so much as pretend to listen: "My wife is the Captain of the Golden Dawn! She's amazing!" I think he is very openly supportive of her dreams and incredibly proud of her accomplishments. In my mind, Letoile really has this forever cheerleader in him, and he really thinks she is just incredible and wants everyone to know how amazing she is.
On her side, Letoile is much more quiet and reserved just by nature and personality, and in that way, I think her support is much more steady and calm. It's less flashy but it's steadfast. She is always in his corner, and he knows that he can always turn to for advice or support when he needs it. I think David has a lot of these more wild, big ideas, and his big plans can sometimes get away from him so the support he needs is often having someone there to help him reign back in a little bit so he doesn't bite off more than he can chew and also to help him with the more practical side of how he can make his dreams reality, and I think Letoile is very good at that and he appreciates that in her.
Overall, I like to think that because they're such good friends with each other, communication comes a bit easier for them and they can be more open about their struggles with each other (despite both being a bit proud and independent at times and really wanting to default to that "Well I can take care of it myself" mentality). I think they can really learn to lean on each other and will really stick by one another in particularly rough times in their lives. I mean, say what you will about Letoile and David but they're both pretty stubborn (in true Golden Dawn fashion, of course). That can be bad things sometimes, but I also think it can be a good thing sometimes too. No matter what happens, neither one of them is really going anywhere. When they choose to share their lives with each other, they're not going to change their minds. They will stubbornly stick together through thick and thin. They might disagree sometimes, but I think those disagreements will be over mostly inconsequential things (like what color to paint the living room walls), and in a time of real trouble, they will come together and work through it together, falling back on the deep, mutual respect they have for each other.
