Our Hobi is so amazing!
I know this may be a bit delayed, but I had to join in on the celebration of our Hope’s first solo album! There was no doubt in my mind that he would show up and show out, and that is exactly what he did. He has always had such a strong presence on BTS tracks and stages, so it comes as no surprise that he would take on the challenge of being on his own with confidence and expertise. Hobi has shared a more edgy side of himself, and really leaned into a more serious and mature vibe.
J-Hope is our Hope and our sunshine child, but he really wanted to prove that he is more than that. With Jack in the Box, he really broke out of his BTS persona, and gave us a deeper look into his artistry and his mind. If I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t at all surprised that Hobi was first in line to be on his own. Over the years, he’s shown just how much of a formidable force he is as a lyricist, dancer, performer, and a mentor. Many would argue that he is BTS’s 2nd leader, supporting RM with such a heavy role, and pushing the boys to be the best they can be. It’s only fitting that someone as strong and well-rounded as him would be at the forefront of solo activities.
When More was first released, I was stunned. It was so exhilarating to see him in this new light, and all on his own. He is such a natural, and he truly makes it seem effortless. He has this aura about him that just sucks you in and immerses you. With More, he really set the tone for what was coming. Jack in the Box is an impressive 1st album, with lyrics that brought on the tears as well as a swelling pride for Hobi’s telling off of the haters. He dug into the roots of Hip-Hop, but made it his own. He shared with us his story, as an idol, as a member of the biggest boy band in the world, as J-Hope, and as his inner true self. A self-reflective piece that digs into himself as well as the bigger picture that is the world today and the pressures of society and expectations. He proved hope isn’t just having a smile on, it’s about the heart.
What’s more is Hobi taking on Lollapalooza as a soloist, and his reasoning as to why. He wants to challenge himself, and put himself out there on a proverbial chopping block. He wants to show what he’s about, what he’s got, to people who love music. He wants feedback. He wants to learn and grow. He wants to be even better. The respect he has for his art and for music is admirable, and I am immensely proud to call myself a fan and a supporter of such a wonderful and talented human. I just know that he is going to conquer that stage, and set fire to everything in his wake. He will indeed shine brighter than ever before.
I simply cannot wait!
Congratulations Hobi on an incredible 1st album!

If you don’t mind me asking, can you pls share when, how, what made you like Louis the way you do???
I definitely wrote the whole story somewhere but I can't find it anymore. Maybe I just ranted under someone's post. I was a swiftie (still am) and I discovered Harry when Taylor started dating him. I didn't paid much attention to him or to the band at that time, because he was just another boyfriend in her hit list and I simply enjoyed his presence for the sake of her music. He just came and gone. But then I searched about him when he released Two Ghosts. Everybody was going crazy because apparently it was about Taylor. Even harry gave a very cheeky response when he was asked about it. So I went and checked his song and I was like "yeah! definitely about Taylor (cos there were too many lyrical similarities with Taylor's Style), but why is he crying about it years later 🙄 get over it dude" lol. I checked out the comments section and my god! people were having a damn war. It was Larries vs Haylors. And I went "who is even this Lewis??" So I googled Louis, found out it's his ex bandmate and I thought it's just a stupid ship. But obviously I wanted to know about Louis more. The first Louis song i heard was Defenceless. And the moment I heard THAT SONG......... I fell in love with his voice. I went crazy for that song. I loved that song and his voice so much that I knew I'm never recovering from him. I heard Harry's music too but it was just not to my liking, but as soon as I started watching Louis content I fell in larry rabbithole because ..... obviously 🙄 that's all you will find out first if you are discovering Louis. The more I started knowing about him, the more I fell in love with him. The struggle, the battle, the gay war, bbg, his family crisis and above all his zest and will to become what he wants, not accepting his destiny, fighting against it and writing songs when he was not given chance to sing in the band, made me adore him to no end. It's like I vowed to never stop supporting him cos he was too underrated. Since then, when he was struggling with his solo career to watching him to what he is now, is just........... too good. Seeing him being fucking confident on stage, filling up the arenas as a SOLO artist makes me proud as hell.

Rosedale. Herkimer 2009. Some friends and I had followed Honor Bright; The Doppler Effect and Lacerda to a show in Herkimer, NY. We'd never seen Rosedale, or heard of them. We didn't know what to expect when we saw them setting up. I was in awe of the sheer height of their front-man, Mike. (I am a over a foot shorter than he is, and at that point he was the tallest person I'd ever met.)When they started playing, I was in awe of their drummer, Emerson Tavares (he played faster than most drummer I'd seen). After the show, we saw a big purple bus, and we had the chance to hang out with Mike and Emmo. A week later, we'd get to meet Mitch and Zan in Watertown, NY. We were hooked. Soon after, we got them to our college in Northern New York.Since then, I've watched Mike progress from the 4 man band to the last solo act in Toronto in 2018. He is multi-talented, and probably one of the most down to earth people I've met. He takes time before, during, and after shows to talk with as many people/fans as he can, and has been an inspiration to many that have followed his journey.Today, we're going to take a look at where he came from, and where he plans to go. Take a few and read through. It's the anniversary feature for Notes on Notes! What better way to celebrate that with the one who inspired it all?!
NON: Rosedale was an early project of yours as a teenager in Brampton, ON. What brought you and your then band mates together?
ML: Pretty much skateboarding sparked it all. The skate scene was really booming in Brampton (and everywhere) as I was becoming an adolescent. Tony Hawk Pro Skater was huge, all the skate magazines were doing well, all the local skate parks were packed and hosting contests, pro skaters were celebrities- it was wild! I've always been pretty awkward on a skateboard and could never really improve past the basics, but I was definitely making progress on the piano so my parents finally granted my wishes to switch to classical guitar, as I'd been begging for years and the skate culture was surrounded by a lot of guitar music. After about a year of struggling to figure out how to play "cool guitar" I started convincing my friends to learn drums and bass and would try to jam with them. That led me to connecting with a friend I hadn't really seen since kindergarten; Nick, who was a pretty solid drummer. So I started showing him songs I'd written and we'd jam at his place on weekends. I think it started lighting a fire for a few of my school and skater friends as they started getting more serious about learning instruments and starting bands. We'd eventually teamed up with Mitch and Jon's band, as their drummer, Emerson, was still figuring out how to drum. Fun fact, there was about a month or two where I was kicked out of the band because my squeaky voice, cheesy lyrics, shrill guitar tone, awkward stage presence, and thick wavy blond mushroom cut were all just too unbearable. (They were very blunt and honest with me on that phone call...) So Jon started singing and they eventually called me back into the new band to play guitar, piano, and sing super high emo backup vocals. From there; we replaced Nick with Sam, named the band Rosedale (because when our gear was stuck at Nick's house we'd walk up Rosedale ave to the local music store to practice and write). Then we eventually replaced Sam with Emerson. Me and Jon started taking vocal lessons from our friend Steve, who was a drummer and backup singer in one of our favourite local bands, By Permit Only. Eventually we just asked him to be our lead singer and after recording our first EP with him, he quit the band and I took over lead vocals again. I met Zan in our high school, Mayfield. He was a bassist in the music program so I'd jam with him from time to time during lunch in our school's practice rooms. He eventually replaced Jon... I guess I could have just summed it up with "Skateboarding and school" but we all have a little more time these days so why not take a trip down nostalgia lane!
NON: You've had 5 EP's and albums over the years; could you describe the progression of your creative process through the years?
ML: It's pretty crazy for me to look back on. We recorded Past Times With Old Friends in Sean Andrew's little bedroom on a Line 6 bean-shaped Pod with Cue-base on his laptop. We'd tried to record about 3 demos with 3 different producers prior to that EP but nothing ever got finished. Each time we'd record I'd learn a few more things about how to engineer. Back when we had Sam in the band, one of his dad's friends "Stereo Mario" (one of the 3 producers that we'd demo with) would teach me the basics of Pro Tools and I was very eager to learn more. Before ever using any real recording equipment/DAW I'd multi-track covers of my favorite songs onto three-and-a-half inch floppy discs with my Yamaha Clavinova (a multi-patch midi amplified keyboard from the mid 90s), drums and all! So I kinda came full circle back to being a solo, multi tracker, multi-instrumentalist after having several different band mates and methods. The big turning point in my progression as an artist and producer, though, came when I started an internship at Drive Studios in my senior year of high school. I believe everyone needs a roll model and mentor to really progress and the owner of that studio, Steve Rizun, took me under his wing and pulled me in the right direction. Not only did he train me to be a sound engineer and let me work with some world class punk/prog/metal/emo bands, but he also would show me how to make additional production for Rosedale's sound and how to bring it to our live show. I became obsessed with songwriting and production and as soon as I graduated I worked to save up for a Macbook and an audio interface...and a lot of other gear! Had it not been for Steve, I probably would have wasted a lot of money going to a college to learn a fraction of what he was teaching me for free; hands on in the most punk rock environment! Since that internship he's mixed and mastered all the Rosedale records, mixed a handful of my live shows, he even showed me the ropes of being a live sound engineer, and continues to be a great ear to for mixing and advice! I've had a lot of other great friends show me how to edit video, hold a drumstick, where to book shows, gear advice etc. Even though I'm kind of a "Lone Wolf" I guess my process has always been to keep creating and ask for help and advice along the way from those who are more experienced (and YouTube tutorials, of course). Now that I'm in a new market playing with a new band (Mainsail in San Diego) I feel like I'm teaching and working more often than I'm learning. And that's been really healthy too!
NON: How has the journey from "Past Times" to your most recent projects helped you grow/learn as a musician/artist?
ML: What a journey it has been! As I'm sure any artist or even entrepreneur could relate, The Faces sang it best; "I wish that I knew what I know now when I was younger!" I think the biggest difference is the decision making ability. I used to take so damn long to make such bad decisions! Debating who, what, where why- it's important to think things through but sometimes you gotta just leap and learn from it. If you keep questioning things you'll never know. Also, the more I learn the more I realize how much more I still don't know! And that's part of the climb. Even now, being in the beginning stages of getting my 10,000 hours on the drums, I look back to how I used to play, say, 100 hours ago- and shake my head. That can sometimes be humiliating and demotivating while knowing you're still at the bottom of the mountain- or even just dealing with the ongoing yin and yang of confidence/hope vs. doubt. But what usually gets me to keep on going is to remind myself to just be better than I was yesterday. For a long time I was holding myself to the standards of my heroes which usually just creates inauthenticity, bad technique, bad decisions, clutter, and setbacks. Sometimes I'm worse than I was yesterday so I need a little push and that's okay, too! The journey from Past Times to Again was a big balancing lesson of letting things go while learning you can always do more to improve. And it's no surprise; but the newer the album, the more proud and less embarrassed of it I am!
NON: You've played bass in Mainsail for roughly a year, maybe a bit more; how did you meet up with them? What spurred you joining?
ML: Yeah since February 2019 I've been in Mainsail. I've been friends with them since 2017 and they really helped me get my show in front of a lot of people in San Diego. When I finally moved out there Nick was really cool about bringing me out to shows and jamming together. They needed a new bass player so I figured I'd offer and it just all escalated really fast. Since finally accepting that it was time to move on from the name Rosedale I've had a lot of luck with being a sort of "yes man". I'm usually very strict with staying on the path to my vision, as it requires a lot of time, but since moving and letting go of the past I've been finding that sometimes letting the wind take you where you're needed can be really beneficial. And a lot of great things are starting to happen for Mainsail so it has been fun. It has also kind of kept a stream of new listeners seeing what Rosedale is all about too so that is a nice bonus.
NON: You've performed at the House of Blues in San Diego; how was the experience for you?
ML: It was one of the best moments of my life playing that stage in front of so many great SoCal people, some who have been supporting Rosedale over the years. That has always been one of my favorite venues and since moving to San Diego I've seen a lot of amazing shows there. House of Blues is always great in Boston and Anaheim too. I'm really grateful that they give independent acts like myself not only a chance to play there, but they really give you the same professionalism and respect as they do to the giant national acts, it's pretty remarkable. I really hope they're doing okay during this pandemic and I hope all venues find a way to pull through this. I can't imagine how tough it's getting for some.
NON: You've toured the U.S. and parts of Canada multiple times; played on a stage at Warped Tour, and toured Europe: What would you say is your most memorable moment?
ML: That is a great but very tough question. Playing in Vienna Austria in 2016 to a bunch of kids that knew my songs is definitely up there. But 2012 Warped Tour was probably the most fun and rewarding summer of my life. It was a grind and very uncomfortable at times, but there were so many epic moments packed into that summer that I look back on in disbelief. The biggest turning point was about two weeks into the tour in Minnesota (I think it was Minnesota...) I got called into the Warped production office and was told to check in with Kevin every morning for any open stage time, given a wristband, and some tasks to help out with in production. I played my DIY one-man-show in the parking lot that same night as kids were leaving the festival (as I would every night) and while I was standing at my merch table selling stuff and taking photos, I noticed that Ryan Dawson (from All Time Low) and Anthony Raneri (from Bayside) were hanging out watching. Once things slowed down they came over and bought 10 CDs each! It was so cool of them to even give me the time of day, let alone buy CDs to (probably) give out to people on the tour. I had a similar experience with Caleb Shomo (from Attack Attack/Beartooth) the year before outside of Cuyahoga Falls Warped tour. I had a drummer and bass player with me at the time and Caleb stood front & center to watch our whole set while kids kept coming up to him for autographs and I could see him pointing at us saying good things to all the kids. After our set he handed me all the cash he had in his pocked and apologized for not having more, I gave him some merch and we chatted for a good 15 minutes about how being an artist is a roller coaster and good things come and go, encouraging me to hang in there. He kept emphasizing how he just considered himself and everyone on the main stages lucky. All of those memories are enough motivation to last a lifetime and they're also reminders to pay it forward.
NON: Touring as much as you have, there must have been some odd things that have happened. What has been the strangest thing to happen to you while you were on the road?
ML: Lots of strange tour stories for sure. The little ghost girl I caught on camera in the former German concentration camp was pretty crazy. (You can find it in the RosedaleMike Europe Tour Blogs via Tumblr if you don't believe!) It always freaks people out when I show them. And I remember everyone's reaction in the van right after I caught the footage. But the craziest thing that happened to me...there's been so many hard luck slaps in the face, as so many touring bands have also experienced, I'm sure. One time I had this great opportunity to be the opener/direct support for Everlast in Colorado Springs. I had just released self-titled, the tour was going well, and this Everlast show was sold out at Black Sheep (a great venue!) I had a day off so I got to town a day early to be extra prepared. While at the gym I received an email from the venue that Everlast had to postpone due to weather conditions. So now the show was cancelled and I offered to find local bands to fill the night for the venue so that I can still play for my small crowd. I went straight to a library for wi-fi and started plugging away on my laptop, emailing bands asking if they wanna do me a solid and play a last minute show at Black Sheep tomorrow night. I had two confirmed, told the venue, and they announced on the Facebook event page that there will still be a show but Everlast will be rescheduled, and they made me a host so I could update the event as I confirmed new acts. Some kids in Montana saw this and started saying that Rosedale cancelled the Everlast show! It turns out that they just randomly decided to troll me. They were even sending pictures of these little ridiculous hand written notes they made that read something like "I am cancelling the show - Rosedale". They were leaving random comments claiming that they were Everlast and bashing my fans as they tried to help clear the confusion. People were messaging me asking "Why'd you cancel the show?!" I had to explain to them and the venue what was really going on. The venue was in shock watching it all happen too and they said they have never seen anything like that, ever. I went to a local show that same night and convinced a couple of the bands to play Black Sheep tomorrow. All four locals were really awesome and the show ended up turning out to be pretty well attended. Even some people that had Everlast tickets came out and had a great time. The venue was really impressed that I pulled an event together so last minute and I was stoked to have built another great venue relationship. I got in my van and started to drive to my next show in Flagstaff, AZ. As I was climbing a rocky mountain pass, some slick snow started coming down. I was pulling my trailer and sliding pretty bad until eventually I couldn't move anymore and was stuck on the side of the road. As the sun was coming up an emergency truck pulled up and started laying sand down in front of my van so I followed him until my wheels started spinning again and one wheel gripped to the sand while the other spun and blew my transmission and rear differential. I didn't make it to Flagstaff or the next five shows. $4600 repair bill. And the next show back in Encinitas was an afternoon show at a biker bar where I was told after my first set (of three) to pack up and only received one sixth of my guarantee as my fans started showing up for the second set. There ended up being some good intertwined in all of all of that but it was just such a frustrating and confusing week. Sometimes I swear I'm in a movie like The Truman Show.
NON: You draw a lot of inspiration from The Used; Blink-182 and Angels and Airwaves: Who else has inspired you along the way?
ML: I definitely have a lot of heroes. Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service, The Ataris, The Starting Line, Metro Station, Dashboard Confessional, Boys Like Girls, The Matches, Underoath, The Almost, Motion City Soundtrack, Red Hot Chili Peppers, All Time Low, The Band Camino, Owl City, Radiohead, John Mayer, Coldplay, Paramore, Yellowcard, Moneen, Boxcar Racer...That's probably 10% of them. I've been to a lot of great concerts and being six foot nine gives me a good view and very memorable experiences.
NON: Do you see yourself continuing making music or helping others in music in the future?
ML :Both!
NON: What song that you've written do you connect with the most?
ML: That's always changing to be honest. Depending on where I'm at, what I'm doing/going through. It's usually the most recent song or idea I've written which doesn't get released for sometimes a year or two after. Of the songs I've release, that would be Sustain. That is the most recent Rosedale song I've written. I wrote it right before we started tracking Self Titled and Again and its kind of about being in both shoes of that Warped Tour situation I just mentioned. People sometimes ask if I'm referring to myself as the Star or the Kid in that song and the answer is both! I'm still that star struck kid who can't wait to ask my favorite artists a thousand questions but I also get a lot of questions from fans who are trying to start their own thing or make their passion their career.
SHOUT OUTS
Mainsail, Palapalooza Podcast, Time & Distance, I Set My Friends on Fire, Alex Baker, Plans, The Home Team, OCML, FXav, Adam Sisco, my parents and family, everyone at Gnarlywood, Abby Lyn Records, Jonny Cooper, my old band mates and everyone who's ever come on tour with me- Thank you all. And all the bands, artists, venues, studios, street performers, restaurants that are trying to make it through this lock down. Hopefully all this is over soon and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Believe things will get better eventually and use this alone time to improve yourself. Keep supporting live music even if you're stuck at home. And if you need help reach out and ask. Let's all stay safe and help one another

oh,  he thinks a little after the decision is out in the air,  when the judges have already moved onto discussing the next stage and the air grows suffocating as realization settles in slowly.  he stares ahead,  unflinching,  and clenches his fists in his lap.  the sheet of iron ever present over his expression remains long after recording is done and when he’s finally on his way home with the others.
oh.
the glimmer of hope the eliminated contestants are given after the fact does very little to calm the conclusion he’s reached from the moment his name is called  --  not good enough.  huh.
surprising how much it hurts,  a phantom pain in his chest that aches when he gives his friends a smile and reassures them he’d expected the result.  it’s not a lie per se,  really isn’t,  except perhaps he’s been fooling himself since the beginning,  clutching onto a thread of hope and praying to a god he’s not sure is out there when his mind is unusually blank and the pressure grows.  the little mercies come with the idea everyone else survived,  empty enigma will go on even if he failed here,  they didn’t fall the way he did.
the shot of redemption should be enlightening  --  instead it’s cold and he wonders what he’s even doing here anymore.
he can’t bring himself to look at yuqi after the decision is spoken into the void,  doesn’t want to face how he’s failed her.  the judges’ comments are right to point out how she was top three the previous week but now on the verge of going home.  he wonders what he could’ve improved  --  was it too boring?  did he not express himself enough?
no matter.
he doesn’t let himself fret on it too long,  instead his attention falling upon reassuring his friends he’s okay,  he’s always okay.  hwang minhyun doesn’t wear sadness well,  has learned to conceal growing up in the environment that he did,  and so he hugs daniel back and allows a quiet sigh of disappointment to fall from his lips as he pats the other’s back.
“i’ll do my best to make you proud,”  he says generally to the whole group,  summoning something resembling a hopeful smile.  “wait for me,  i’ll be back.”  it’s like a plea,  let me be good enough, he whispers unconsciously into the air,  paired with let them make it through another round,  they deserve it.
the presence of cameras still weighs heavy on his presence,  and so he offers woojin only the most pleasant smile he can,  and promises they’ll discuss it further when they’re home,  doesn’t dare look at kenta for too long,  much less know what he can say to sungwoon.  the idea he can prolong the discussion a little longer is a small relief,  but minhyun embraces it nevertheless.
his new partner,  however,  is a sense of entertainment to a certain degree.  a little funny considering how it seems jeonghan and daniel have some bad blood,  though he’s not entirely aware of the extent,  nor how far his partner’s distaste for his friend went,  if he could be considered guilty by association.
their initial meeting is one begun with raised brows and unwavering stares.  jeonghan quickly earns his respect,  and minhyun can’t deny he doesn’t know the other well enough to justify much less.  the partnership is an experience he’ll look back on in the future,  wry and accompanied by a calmness up until game day.
they rehearse in a practice room courtesy of jeonghan’s student status at k-arts,  and the rising bitterness crawls up his throat and settle upon his lips that curl back into a wry but unsettled attempt at a smile as he stares around the campus,  the room,  everything he realizes could’ve been him.  he could’ve been a student here if he’d accepted the offer,  could’ve continued pursing music with a renowned passion instead of settling for less.
the idea stays with him as he and jeonghan go through the selected track,  something that tugs at the heartstrings and begs one to look upon their past and felt on a heartbreak that left its scars.  they listen once,  twice,  three times before minhyun truly feels they made the right decision.  he’s come to doubt his own preferences,  and a part of him wondered if the judges would express their disappointment once more,  if he’d have to sit there through it all and then meet his bandmates and tell them that no,  i wasn’t good enough for them.
his lack of confidence is almost sickening,  a sensation that weighs him down as he stares at himself in the reflection of the door before making it inside and going towards the destination the eliminated trainees had been summoned.  he feels like he’s cattle on a farm,  ushered to the will of people given much power and affluence.  he wonders when he let it all come down to this.
he thinks of the odd tension in the share-house,  half-pretending he’s okay,  half-motivated to just do better,  tip-toeing around the others and feeling more or less the same back from the majority.  things have always been tender and delicate between him and kenta,  though he’s yet to acknowledge it,  to do anything to address the neglected elephant in the room.  he falls back on normalcy to remain sane,  and spends his free time simply practicing.
there’s an encounter with suwoong that does much to cheer minhyun’s spirits,  the other coming over with chicken and drinks,  and despite the polar opposites the two remained in personality,  minhyun comes out of the night a refreshed person,  lighter even.  it helps that he too feels like he might’ve helped the other in any way,  even if it were with mediocre advice and a simple ear lent with the promise to listen,  but his soft spot for the friend remains secure,  even as he waves him off later casually,  and reminds him  --  chill.
he should really take his own advice.
daniel and sungwoon are easier to be around,  though also harder in little ways.  they’re more known,  walking incarnations of the confidence and talent he strives to reach,  but the slightly pathetic feelings do little to shelter the proudness he can’t deny.  he meets woojin’s eyes too many times to count,  the other remaining mute despite his initial attempt to communicate with him when the results were first aired.  for a moment,  he wonders if the other had been disappointed in him too  --  at least until the final moment.  when woojin wishes him a good luck,  minhyun reaches out and pinches his cheek gently,  a move done in affection,  and returns the sentiment.
he has great friends,  and for that,  he is thankful.
the room feels more empty this time,  with just the six trainees and those monitoring them with critical gazes already inclined towards the thought they’d failed this competition once.  if this is his end,  so be it  --  it’ll make a lasting expression for time to come.  he wonders for a moment,  while looking over at the other pairs,  if he should’ve texted yuqi best wishes,  but holds the regret to fester later.
jeonghan and him are the first pair to be called up,  a chill travelling down his spine as he stands and looks to his partner.  “i believe in us,”  he says,  giving himself a second to compose his own thoughts yet failing back on something overwhelmingly cheesy regardless.  the ends of his lips rise into something genuine,  and following the other’s words,  he nods,  “let’s do this.”
they have utilized stools as part of the performance,  perched away from each other and delivering different messages of a collective whole.  introductions out of the way,  minhyun simply offers his name and a promise to showcase their best.  the song is doused in the idea of heartbreak,  and as minhyun sits there,  the instrumental opening to the track beginning to set the tone,  he feels it reflect upon his own heart.  he closes his eyes and begins his verse.
i'm fine but suddenly you break into my thoughts. whenever it is, i part with you again
jeonghan joins him at the end,  and their voices mingle together to create what he deems a powerful harmony of emotion.  then,  comes his own lines,  solo and channeling the necessary feelings he wanted to convey.
how can i love again after meeting someone else?
jeonghan takes over,  and minhyun nods slowly,  awaiting his cue to join back in.  it was easy to get lost in the way jeonghan sang,  full of emotion and delivered with the talent of someone who was confident in his own skills  --  he feels fortunate with his duo partnership.
one day, when I meet you, i will tell you my story how painful and hard it was for me
there are scattered high notes exchanged through the song,  switching between him and jeonghan,  challenging him in way he hasn’t been particularly challenged before.  the slightly desperate last chance perhaps sings through in the way the duo perform,  giving it their all and searching for a validation they shouldn’t want to this degree,  a necessity in this industry.  he can’t speak for jeonghan,  but minhyun’s quest for approval taunts him day in and out,  and here he stands once more,  yearning.
at that time, take those awkward love and memories. i want you to be hard as i am go away
he puts his all into delivering the notes as perfectly as one such as him can,  matched evenly with jeonghan’s passion.  the music quiets down,  and minhyun straightens as he readies himself,  eyes shining as the end approaches.  no matter the results,  he tells himself he can only plea acceptance,  no lingering self-doubt.
how can i love again, after meeting someone else?
his voice starts softer,  eyes closed once more,  slowly building into the high note,  an octaves higher than he was used to performing since his musical production days,  but he follows through the best he can.  he continues his part of vocalization as jeonghan sings through his verse,  and although he may not have eyes on the other,  he’d go as far as to say he can feel him,  through his voice,  through the connection they’d made in the past week.
we were beautiful
his voice grows gentler,  both hands coming up to clutch the mic as he works through the note.  then comes the finale  --  sweet and twinged with a bittersweet end.
now goodbye
he lets the moment sit,  before opening his eyes.

[Translation] ROCK DOWN Unit CD Vol. 1 Drama Track 3
Tumblr media
Here’s the third track~! Boy, I got a lot of thoughts with just this track alone for their characterizations XD
※ Please don’t re-post the English translations without permission.
Under the cut, enjoy~
Track 3: [ROCK DOWN構拕!] “ROCK DOWN, Start!”
SHO: Now then, everyone did well during the gathering.
SHO: Ayumu and Reiji resolved their conflict, too, and everyone’s living safely in the dorms now.
SHO: And so, shall we begin ROCK DOWN’s first meeting? Is everyone ready?
RUKA: Yes, yes~! Everything’s perfect~! I look forward to working with you all~!
ALL: We’ll be in your care.
SHO: (chuckles) Me, too.
SHO: Now then, shall we begin? I got contacted by the manager about how the six of us will be doing a small tour as a part of promotions and for our publicity.
SHO: These are the rough details of it. (Sho puts a piece of paper on the table)
REIJI: Oh, it already has a programme? Show me. (Reiji stands up from his seat)
AYUMU: Hey, Ama— Reiji

AYUMU: Why do you think he put it in the middle for?
REIJI: You should hurry up and get used to calling me Reiji, y’know? You started it yourself.
AYUMU: I realized that I was being hasty with that decision.
REIJI: Don’t say that with such a calm face.
REIJI: You can take it back, you know? I’ll forgive you since I have no choice~
AYUMU:
No, there’s no need. A man doesn’t go back on his word.
REIJI: Are you a samurai?
GAKU: So this unit has two samurai, huh?
RUKA: Hey, Reiji-kun! Hurry and pass that around.
GAKU: Ruu, it will eventually come to you so calm down.
RUKA: I mean, I’m super curious! I wanna see it now! Hurry, hurry!
REIJI: Ah, fine, got it! If you’re that excited, look over it first! Here you go.
(Reiji hands over the programme)
RUKA: Yay~! Thank you~
RUKA: Oh! It’s kinda supeeeeeerrr—intense, hey!
GAKU: It’s true
There’s more to do than I initially thought.
HARUTO: It is.
SHO: You’re right. It seems like the manager put in whatever he could since it’s ROCK DOWN’s first activity.
SHO: In the end, it amounted to this much.
HARUTO: It’s good to be enthusiastic about work, isn’t it?
AYUMU:
I still wonder about whether that part of you that says that is serious or if it’s simple carelessness.
RUKA: Uwah~ Since it’s this much, I have to go into hyper concentration mode after my current play’s finished.
GAKU: Do you think your stamina will last?
RUKA: It should be fine~! I did ask my manager to give me as much work as he can as long as I think I can handle it.
RUKA: I won’t go back on my word either~!
GAKU: You
That attitude of yours is really manly, huh

RUKA: Thank you, Gakkun~ I think so, too~
AYUMU: I am grateful about the fact that he’s passionate about promoting us but
 Look at this.
AYUMU: While it is easy to interpret, the capacity’s too much. I’m curious about this part.
HARUTO: True.
AYUMU: Even if it’s an event that doesn’t have admission fee, is it even possible for a unit that’s not so popular to gather that many people?
REIJI: Ayumu
You’re saying things like that again

REIJI: I can’t tell if it’s you being negative or a worrywart. What are you gonna do if you’re scared before you even tried it?
REIJI: You should be proud that the agency’s expecting that much from us, right?
SHO: Yep, I think that’s the case, too.
SHO: VAZZY’s got three members who just debuted but ROCK DOWN’s members all had solo careers beforehand.
AYUMU: Well, that’s
 quite true.
REIJI: Ah, geez! You, stop mumbling nonsense.
REIJI: I’m here, y’know? I’m your super public character!
HARUTO: It’s true. Since Reiji-san’s an actor, his name and face are already well-known.
REIJI: (confidently) Right~?
AYUMU: Ama—Reiji’s pride and confidence is reassuring at times like these.
REIJI: Does making a genuine compliment not exist inside that body of yours?
RUKA: Alright, everyone~ I won’t lose to Reiji-kun when it comes to follower counts~
RUKA: I want you to count on me for publicity, too~
RUKA: I’m a stage presence so my overall popularity’s still not much but, it’s, ya know~ That kinda thing where you know it’ll still continue to grow~!
RUKA: ROCK DOWN will definitely get more TV appearances and other related things so it’s only a matter of time before the name Nadumi Ruka becomes renowned!
RUKA: Probably! Leave it to me!
AYUMU:
 I see
ROCK DOWN has another super confident person, huh.
AYUMU: He doesn’t disappoint.
HARUTO: I don’t know whether my confidence can help much at first.
GAKU: So you’re not sure of yourself? Anyway, Ruu’s the type to go all out before even doing the real thing.
HARUTO: He’s the “shonen manga protagonist” type.
GAKU: Ah, (laughs) that’s pretty close.
AYUMU: I understand. So, he’s the complete opposite of me who who’s extremely cautious.
GAKU: S-since you’re self-aware, let’s go about this as relaxed as we can, okay, Ayumu

SHO: (chuckles) Being able to look forward is a good thing for a talent.
SHO: Ruka and Reiji are probably the type who were born to stand in the spotlight. How reliable~
***
[05:31]
(intense background music)
REIJI: (chuckles haughtily) Hey, Ruka.
REIJI: It’s good that you have drive but
I won’t give the center position to you.
REIJI: Sharing doesn’t suit Amaha Reiji.
RUKA: Ah~! That’s important, right, Reiji-kun~?
RUKA: But, I have confidence that I can do any kind of role, you know~?
RUKA: An actor will shine in any role no matter the circumstances, remember~?
REIJI: Shine? Hah! If that’s the case then anyone can take any part.
REIJI: I’m the type who drowns himself in his role and creates a new being out of it!
REIJI: That’s the real charm of acting, isn’t it?
RUKA: Heh~ So, Reiji-kun’s the type of person who thinks like that~
RUKA: Hmmm~
REIJI: What of it?
(intense music suddenly stops)
RUKA: I like it~! So, there’s that kind of method, too! It’s interesting!
REIJI: Hah
?
RUKA: Ma~n~ Reiji-kun’s the type I can have deep conversations with~! Next time, let’s talk more about acting while we drink, ‘kay~?
REIJI: Huh?! (dumbfounded) Ah, ah, yeah, got it.
RUKA: Putting that aside~ I love standing out, too so I’ll gratefully accept your challenge for the center part!
RUKA: Let’s decide once and for all at the live!
REIJI: (scoffs) Bring it on. I’m the type who doesn’t back down from a challenge.
(meanwhile, with Gaku and the others)
GAKU: Sho, is that okay? They’ve started fighting over the center spot by themselves.
SHO: (laughs) Isn’t it great that they’re excited about it?
SHO: I said so before but, the center’s for someone who can energize an audience so we’re free to do what we please with it.
SHO: Haruto, Gaku, Ayumu, try aiming for it, too, okay~? Of course, I’ll do my best, too.
GAKU: Easier said than done. We’re gonna go against those two, you know?
SHO: I’m sure Gaku can do it!
GAKU: That’s a baseless proposal, huh?
SHO: (chuckles) It might be but I believe in you.
SHO: Everyone in ROCK DOWN has the brilliance to stand in the center. I believe in that.
HARUTO: Sho

SHO: Now then
(Sho claps his hands) Reiji, Ruka, can you guys leave it at that for now?
SHO: I want to continue the meeting.
RUKA: Ah

REIJI: Oh yeah, that’s right. We were still in the middle of a meeting.
(Reiji sits down)
RUKA: Ah, I’m so sorry, Sho-kun! (Ruka sits down)
SHO: The schedule for this tour has already been posted online.
SHO: I want you to confirm the dates for yourselves, too.
SHO: Once the tour starts, we’ll be having the same schedules.
SHO: Let’s prepare thoroughly and make this a success.
SHO: That’s all~
ALL: Roger!/Got it!

Without Love
Summary: Y/N has been singing with the boys for a while, but is nervous to do it on stage. Rob promises her anything if she’ll sing at SNS with him. Rob better be prepared to pay up.
Written for: @spnfluffbingo and this request from the beautiful @evansrogerskitten: Rob x Reader request please :) a fluffy first time on stage singing with Rob at SNS. Maybe "Long Train Runnin" which he sings with Jason on his new album? Yay! Thank you :) (Who am I to tell Ash ‘no’?!)
Square Filled: Right in Front of Your Eyes
Word Count: ~1425
Warnings: Slight angst, performance anxiety, FLUFF
A/N: I have used Ruth’s likeness, cause she is just so damn adorable. No disrespect to Rob or his family; this is a work of fiction and should be regarded as such. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!!
Tumblr media
Y/N had been a guest on a few episodes of Supernatural and after her first convention, she had been invited back time and time again, quickly becoming a fan favorite. She loved her job and had just received the news that she would be an addition to the cast of Wayward Sisters, starring alongside her friends, Kim Rhodes and Briana Buckmaster.
Not only did the fandom love her, but she was great friends with most of the cast and was frequently a guest singer at the ever popular Saturday Night Special. She performed with ease as part of a group, but had not done anything solo before.
“Just sing with me once. Whatever song you want, your choice, just...please?” Rob pleaded with her one convention weekend to sing with them on stage. “I hear you sing all the time; you are fantastic. Your voice is strong and solid and I love hearing you sing. Please?”
Y/N had been friends with Rob Benedict for a number of years, since before Supernatural. They had guest starred together on a couple different shows, always stayed in touch, and both were thrilled that they got to spend time together at conventions.
“Rob, I haven’t sung in front of anyone but you guys for years, I don’t think I could do it,” she told him one afternoon in the green room.
“You are an amazing singer and actress. You can totally do this! I will do anything you want,” Rob continued to pester her all day, even go so far as to use the puppy dogs eyes he no doubt learned from one Jared Padalecki.
She was honestly tired of listening to Rob beg that she finally relented. “Fine. One song. I choose and if I am terrible, it is all your fault!”
“You won’t be terrible, Y/N. This is going to be brilliant! Let me know what you want in return,” Rob threw his fist up in victory as he, Rich and the band prepared to go back out stage to announce the next guest.
“Finally wore her down, huh, Robby?” Rich smirked.
“Yep! And it didn’t even take as long as I thought it would,” Rob boasted, feeling pretty proud of himself.
“Ahhhh hmmmm,” Rich just hummed in agreement. Everyone agreed that those two were so clueless. “What song did she pick?”
“Oh shit! I forgot to ask!” Rob ran back into the green room, returning a few minutes later with his answer. “Long Train Running.”
“Good choice. She’ll harmonize great with Jason,” Rich added.
“What? Why would you say that? She agreed to sing with me,” Rob was utterly offended and Rich took great pride in badgering his best friend.
“Ohhh! She said she would sing with you? I didn’t know, Buddy. Sorry about that,” Rich clapped him on the back as they walked through the curtain.
Rob just stared after Rich, his mouth agape. He shook it off and stepped out on stage. They introduced Kim, Briana, Ruth and Gil, then ducked off stage and back to the green room.
Y/N had already done her panel on Friday and was now looking forward to the Saturday Night Special. The hours quickly ticked away and the closer it got, the more nervous she became. She didn’t want to screw this up. She just needed a drink or two to help settle the nerves. The song she had picked would not be a problem; she knew the words backwards and forwards. It was her singing partner she was worried about.
Sure, she and Rob had great chemistry on and off screen, but they would be nothing more than friends. Still, they were close and she did consider him one of her best friends. Rob was the person she confided in about every job, every date, every failed relationship for years. She confided in Rob about everything. Well, except one thing; that she kept to herself.
She should not have been surprised when he kept pestering her to sing and she had been wanting to sing with him for so long. Jason Manns had even asked her sing on this new album, but she had declined; she was not ready for that kind of audience. Much like the SNS she was nervous about, she was afraid that everyone would see right through her.
The lyrics of Long Train Running were so many things, but to her, they spoke volumes about her relationship with Rob, at least from her point of view. It was a song about waiting for something. A melody about love and longing. She thought long and hard about that one line: ‘where would you be without love?’. Maybe tonight was the night she finally spoke up. Maybe tonight was the night when she finally told Rob exactly how she felt about him.
The entire cast had dinner after the convention that night, like they do every Saturday of a con weekend. Y/N enjoyed a couple of beers with dinner, but as the night wore on, she realized she might need something a bit stronger to help her keep her resolve. She sat across the table from him at dinner, admiring him; his strength, his sense of humor and his fierce loyalty. All of those qualities made her realize what she really wanted was right in front of her the entire time.
Back in the green room, she poured herself a glass of bourbon and relished in the slight burn as she swallowed the warm amber liquid. She had at least an hour before she would have to be on stage, so she sipped her drink and engaged the others in conversation, trying to keep her mind off, well, everything.
“I would like to bring someone special on stage with us tonight. She is no stranger to you folks, but this is the first time we have been lucky enough to have her grace us with her presence as a singer. Supernatural Family, please welcome to the stage our newest Wayward Sister, Y/N Y/L/N!!!” Rob announced her debut and she walked out on stage to cheers and applause from the crowd.
“Thank you all so much for that warm welcome. It is great to be here! Rob, what are we singing again?” she turned to look at Rob, who just shook his head and smiled, banging his head on the microphone. She finally knew what she wanted in return to letting Rob talk her into this. “Oh, that’s right! Silly me. You guys might recognize this from Jason’s new album. Hit it Billy!”
The music started and she could feel herself start to relax. Rob stepped up to the mic and started the first lyric, her joining in at the chorus and then the third verse. She was really enjoying herself and kept her eyes on Rob’s the entire song. Her mind was free from all the thoughts that had kept her from doing this for so long. The song ended sooner than she would have liked and the crowd applauded her off the stage.
The concert was going so well and she was the first one back on stage next to Rob for the final song. She held his hand as they exited the stage together. When everyone headed back to the green room, she stopped, Rob running into her and almost knocking the both of them over.
“What the-?” Rob righted himself before he landed on top of her. “Are you okay, Y/N?”
“I’m great. You were totally right, Rob. This is something I should have done a long time ago,” she smiled up at him. “I know what I want in exchange for letting you talk me into singing with you.”
“You were fantastic! I told Rich you would kill it!” Rob exclaimed, throwing his arm around you in a celebratory hug, but when he released her, she didn’t let go. Y/N pulled back slightly, just enough to look into those bright baby blues that she had come to love so much.  “What do you want?”
“You. You have been right in front of me the entire time and I was too stupid to say anything,” she whispered. “I was too scared I was going to lose you. Tell me I am not going to lose you, Rob.”
“You’ll never lose me. I have been waiting years for you to make the first move because I knew I couldn’t. I’m sorry I didn’t, but I am so happy you did,” Rob revealed. “Can I kiss you now?”
“You better.”

Uta no Prince Sama Maji LOVE LIVE 6th Stage - 05/27/2017
OMG. OMG. OMG. I have still not completely absorbed the fact that I was there - that my dream of attending Maji Love Live concert has finally come true on this fateful day. *cries a river*
This is a fan report - which is basically my feelings put into words. And warning: as in my previous seiyuu event reports (Bungo Stray Dogs, High Speed), this is looooooong. ^_^ Plus, I used the seiyuu’s nicknames for convenience.
ST☆RISH
Shinomiya Natsuki - Taniyama Kishou (Kiiyan)
Ichinose Tokiya - Miyano Mamoru (Mamo)
Aijima Cecil - Toriumi Kousuke (Tori-san)
Jinguji Ren - Suwabe Junichi (SuwaJun)
Ittoki Otoya - Terashima Takuma (Terashii)
Kurusu Syo - Shimono Hiro (Shimono)
Hijirikawa Masato - Suzumura Kenichi (SuzuKen)
QUARTET NIGHT
Kotobuki Reiji - Morikubo Showtaro (Morikubo-san)
Kurosaki Ranmaru - Suzuki Tatsuhisa (Tatsun)
Mikaze Ai - Shouta Aoi (Shoutan)
Camus - Maeno Tomoaki (Maenu)
HE★VENS
Hyuga Yamato - Kimura Ryohei (KimuRyo)
Otori Eiji - Uchida Yuuma (Uchida-kun)
Amakusa Shion - Yamashita Daiki (Daiki-kun)
Kiryuin Van - Takahashi Hidenori (Takahashi-san)
Otori Eiichi - Midorikawa Hikaru (Midorikawa-san)
Mikado Nagi - Yonaga Tsubasa (Wingu)
Sumeragi Kira - Ono Daisuke (OnoD)
Tumblr media
It was a tough day. I already expected that there would be A LOT of people but not to the point that the performance would get delayed because half of the audience has not yet entered the dome. I do not know what totally went wrong but it really felt frustrating that many of us were still in line outside that was not moving at all, though it was already 4:30 PM - the scheduled start of the performance, while there was no announcement from the staff about what’s going on. Maji Love Live’s system is quite strict and complicated as compared to other concerts. Here, the ticket buyer’s name is actually printed on the ticket and before entering, you have to show a valid ID that it is yours. This year, the organizers were really at fault as to why this did not go smoothly and also the fans were at fault for failing to go the venue early to line up. They said that it may have something to do with the wrist bands because it was the first time for that to be implemented.
Tumblr media
ANYWAY, moving on, we were finally able to go inside at around 5PM, but we were literally running because the live has already started! The intro VTR was already up, and while I was still running looking for my seat (which turned out to be on the other side of the dome damn it lol), ST☆RISH already appeared with Maji LOVE Legend Star! Like OMG WAIT! The fangirls alongside me were also on a rush but we did not fail to chant “Peace! Chu! Hey! Go! Legend Star!” being the dedicated fans we are. It was really funny running and singing at the same time, but still frustrating as I was not able to focus and watch the performance well esp that it’s their first time singing Legend Star live. I think I arrived at my seat in time for the last chorus. And this is my first Maji Love Live so why did it turn out like this huhu.
QUARTET★NIGHT - Shoutan and Maenu’s hairstyles were Ai’s and Camus’. What struck me here was Tatsun’s voice. I was not a fan of Tatsun’s voice - I mean it was averagely good for me but when I heard him today live, it was beyond average ok, it was good! (Anyway it was basically not my first time hearing it live if I would count his mini singing performance as middle school Makoto in last time’s High Speed event lol)
Tempest
It rained OMG as in like in the music video lol. You know I can watch Mamo performing forever because for me this guy really does the best musical performances. Good voice, good moves, good looks, and the heart.
QUARTET NIGHT Duet & Solo
KILLER KISS - Reiji & Camus
Haruhana - Ranmaru & Ai
Melting of Snow - Maenu becomes more and more like Camus in every live. His hair, his eyes, his actions OMG. It’s as if Camus became real. A table and chair were set up for him, as he drank his cup of tea. So classyyyyy
On・Your・Mark! - It showed how Morikubo-san is so used to performing. I felt his confidence, and oh this ojisan can also dance yeah. And hearing him live for the first time, I actually appreciated his voice which I have not liked ever since. He’s a singer after all.
BE PROUD - Ok Tatsun, I’m proud of you. I’m sorry for not realizing that your voice was this good ok.
Synchronism - Shoutan was so cute. What’s new? But though I have always viewed him as feminine, seeing him live today for the first time made me see that Shoutan was cute, in a masculine way. His dance moves were really cute. The last pose he made where he captured his eye with his fingers in a peace sign, was really cute. Ok haven’t I used the word cute too much. Anyway, I know for a fact that Shoutan has one of the most beautiful singing voices in the seiyuu industry, and I have affirmed that today. He sounds pretty much the same recorded or live.
Shining Dream Festa
DAY DREAM - Tatsun, Terashii, Shimono, Suwajun, Kiiyan, and Morikubo-san in one song. Oh this was really fun. Foo! Foo! Fo foo!
NIGHT DREAM - Tori-san, Maenu, Suzuken, Mamo, Shoutan in one song. This was beautiful awwww. Love! Love! Love for you!
ST☆RISH Solo
Be the light - Mamo appeared as Hayato this time emitting all the happy vibes. As much as I love Tokiya, we all know that Mamo’s personality matches Hayato better though. “Tanoshindenyaaaaa??”
Hatsukoi o mata hajimeyou - Shimono came out of nowhere like we heard someone was singing but there were no signs of presence on the stage. Minutes later, we saw him coming from the side of the audience as in he performed on the stairs in the middle of the audience seats. (Lucky for the people who were near yay huhu) As usual he was jumping while waving his towel.
Tears in Love - Okay Kiiyan, guess who was in tears because of her overflowing love for you? Lol. Honestly, I was looking forward to a dance number because remember that they were teasing Kiiyan in 5th stage about not dancing. But this song was accompanied by piano, guitar, and viola. Anyway, I am more than satisfied with this performance as, with tears in my eyes, I have once again confirmed that Kiiyan has the best singing voice in the planet. (Fight me lol) And anyway this 41-yr old ojisan looked so hot in his hairstyle  。⁄(⁄ â„â€ąâ„Ï‰â„â€ąâ„ ⁄)⁄
Give me True Love - We all know that SuwaJun’s one of the members who doesn’t do much dancing but no one expected what he offered to us this time. This 45-yr old ojisan came out riding an orange hoverboard and flawlessly maneuvered it for the rest of his performance.
Kanbinaru Arcadia - True to what he said during 5th stage, Tori-san really did bring a black cat on stage this time lol. There was smoke and poof he appeared thereafter as the cat disappeared. Ofc, he did not dance again, but he jumped. Yeah that was his cute way of telling us that he was having fun.
I Swear - SuzuKen’s is one of the singing voices I like among the Shining seiyuu members and now hearing it live for the first time, I can say that he sounds pretty much the same whether recorded or live. I mean that in a good way. He performed with the accompaniment of a dancing fountain.
Brilliant Days - Yay! I give Terashii the best solo performance award this time. Kids on red shirts suddenly came out in the middle of his performance as back-up dancers. It was basically like Otoya who was the older brother in the orphanage as they danced and played like they were the cutest thing. But wait there’s more. Towards the end, the kids brought out and waved sunflowers and yeah we remembered that scene about the sunflower field and OMG there’s more. ST☆RISH members went up on stage to join them and lastly, they somehow reenacted this pose from the anime and we all just went awwwwww huhuhu
Tumblr media
Intro - Shining Agency
ST☆RISH called QUARTET NIGHT to go up on stage and so the cast members from the Shining Agency were now gathered and officially welcomed everyone to the event, “Uta no Prince Sama Maji LOVE LIVE 6th Stage e youkoso!” What was obvious was that they were not talking as much as they did in previous live performances, and this is basically because of the delay in the start of the performance, meaning less time. They had to keep their intros short, which saddened me because I looove seeing their interactions.
Maji LOVE 1000% - ST☆RISH and QUARTET NIGHT
They soon segued to singing the song they deemed they’ve been singing since the beginning and they believe everyone knows well - Maji LOVE 1000%. I was really shocked because they have always put 1000% as the last song because we all know how perfect it is for encore. But who cares, everyone immediately went all out singing this. I was soooooo happy that I was finally able to sing this song with everyone because this is basically where everything began right? Huhuhu.
HE★VENS
After the best performance, a familiar voice finally echoed in the stadium, Midorikawa-san’s “Ii” and we all know that it’s time for HE★VENS.
HE★VENS GATE - Beginning of the Legend - I didn’t expect to enjoy HE★VENS’ performances this much but everyone’s still pumped up fresh from Maji Love 1000%, then HE★VENS came out soaring high on their podiums - yeah it was a really good entrance as the Heavens gate opened. And the crowd went crazy shouting, “YES CALL HE★VENS ! YES CALL HE★VENS !” It was really fun! It felt like HE★VENS actually received a warmer welcome than ST☆RISH and QUARTET NIGHT LOL.
Tumblr media
They then introduced themselves one by one. I felt like they did more talking than  ST☆RISH and QUARTET NIGHT, which is fine, it’s their first time anyway. They teased OnoD to lead the talk as Kira does not speak that much in the anime. OnoD laughed as he agreed that he didn’t really have much lines when they do recordings in the studio. They mentioned that their bond has gotten closer as they actually created a group in LINE. Meanwhile, Daiki-kun was very serious in portraying Amakusa Shion’s character. Midorikawa-san felt happy singing and performing on stage as he said that maybe it has been 20 years ago since the last time. And Wingu, OMG it’s my first time hearing Wingu live. His voice is soooooo cute!!! They then performed another song: HEAVENLY PARADE.
Duet Project
Mighty Aura - For me, this is the best duet performance of them all. I have high praises for Uchida-kun for being able to keep up with Mamo’s singing and dancing. (Like OMG this is Miyano Mamoru we are talking about. Did you not feel intimidated with such senpai) It was really a good showdown and was overflowing with passion - it felt like I was really watching Tokiya and Eiji.
Grown Empathy - Kiiyan and Wingu came in carts from opposite sides of the dome. In the end, they had the “Let’s shouting” written on their palms as they stood back to back in the end. Damn it, soooo cute. And Kiiyan’s smile *faints*
Tumblr media
Lasting Oneness - SuzuKen and OnoD performing together. Isn’t that in itself enough to give you a heart attack lol. Honestly, I didn’t like OnoD’s singing voice that much but hearing it live for the first time, I was amazed as it was really good. Then add the feels that Masato is my 2nd fave character in Utapri while I like Kira the most in Heavens.
Lovely Eyes - SuwaJun and Takahashi-san came in carts from opposite sides of the dome, this time near the audience seats, somewhat similar to what Shimono did earlier.
Visible Elf - Tori-san and Daiki-kun came out riding hot air balloons which actually went flying inside the dome OMG. When they landed, Tori-san again did jumps while performing. He’s so adorable awww
JUSTICE IMPULSE - OMG KimuRyo and Shimono didn’t fail to give us a really intense performance. They fought as what Yamato and Syo did in the anime, while flying. Yeah, we saw how fantastic Shimono’s performance was in the last live and now he even dragged KimuRyo into this. Haha. This is the best next to Mamo and Uchida-kun’s.
NEXT DOOR - Kudos to Terashii again! I felt like I can see Otoya’s darkness in his eyes as he started off with an emotionless performance. Later on he went all dramatic as he clenched his fist on top of his heart while seeming to be in pain. All I can say is, “Saikou ni ii!”
As everyone went off the stage, a VTR was played on the screen showing clips from the previous Maji LOVE LIVE Stage performances from the first one up to the 5th. The audience happily sang along with 1000%, 2000%, and Revolutions.
Triple S Concert
And now we got to see the Triple S showdown live as the three units sang their respective songs.
God’s S.T.A.R. -  By this time I am really convinced that QUARTET NIGHT members are really good performers. They don’t only sing but even their dancing is on point. I understood why they have many fans and how this unit was able to hold its own live last time. They really brought the anime into life. We just went crazy shouting “Wow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow!”
Fumetsu no Inferno - I felt HE★VENS desire not to lose as they also delivered an intense performance, with such good lighting that heightened up such intensity.
WE ARE ST☆RISH - I was pretty sure that I’d cry when I hear this song live. I mean, I already did just by watching it on the anime so what more when I see and hear it live? And so my voice was really cracked while doing the “ST☆RISH! Love! Legend Star!” chants as I was just overwhelmed with happiness. The only sad thing was that they did not do their chants (e.g. “Omaetachi, tsuite koi yo”) which I was badly looking forward to. But the seiyuus actually did most of the dance moves which killed me!!!! Damn it, I love ST☆RISH!!!!! (I’m still getting goosebumps right now as I write this AAAAAAAAHHHHH)
Yes, they did this pose and Tori-san and Shimono looked so lovely sitting there o(â•„ïčâ•„)o
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Encore
After gaining enough time to change their shirts while the audience chanted “Encore!”, the 3 units finally appeared on their carts going around the arena. HE★VENS and QUARTET NIGHT were on the right side while  ST☆RISH came from the left side as they sing Yume o Uta e to. It was funny because while the focus was on HE★VENS and QUARTET NIGHT since it was their turn to sing first, my focus was actually on ST☆RISH. Aside from the fact that they were on the side closer to my seat, and that I love them the most, I just couldn’t take my eyes off of Mamo and Kiiyan. I mean, I honestly love these two more than anyone else but please explain to me why Mamo and Kiiyan were dancing like crazy. Kiiyan’s hips and legs please. Please! They looked like they were having such a good time lol. I’m so glad I was not the only one who noticed as I read a similar report from @socialdegenerate here. Yay!
New Project
After singing, Terashii announced that the time to bid farewell has come but before that they have special announcements. Ofc, they made SuzuKen lead the announcements. First is that the sale of Blu-ray/DVD of 6th stage has been decided, which ofc everyone already expected. Lastly, we all know that a new animation project is in the works as was announced in the Legend Star’s last episode. This time they specifically revealed that it was a movie adaptation. OMG I didn’t expect this. They’re finally moving to the movie theater. Yay! Honestly I was expecting a 5th anime season because even if I already got tired of the story, I’m still willing to support the series because of the songs. As the fact remains that UtaPri as an idol anime really produces good songs sang by great seiyuus. I think it’s actually a good thing; there might be something new as it was compressed into a film instead of stretching it to a series.
Final Messages
After the announcements, each of them gave out their final messages starting from HE★VENS to QUARTET NIGHT and lastly, ST☆RISH. It was again noticeable that they kept their speeches short. Midorikawa-san didn’t actually want to speak much as he said that guys his age actually tend to cry in such kinds of moments. Awwww! Meanwhile, Wingu was laughing while speaking - it really showed how much fun he was having. HE★VENS members were particularly happy for being able to perform on stage for a series as big as UtaPri. They also felt grateful for the warm welcome they received from the crowd. Camus did his trademark speech of greeting everyone politely then calling everyone “gumin-yo” soon after. (I’m so glad he did as when he did not do it in the intro, I thought he wouldn’t be doing it anymore.) Each of them also gave us one to two lines of sweet messages (I don’t know what to call them lol) in their characters’ voices as in Terashii’s “Minna, daisuki da yo!” and Kiiyan’s “Kimi dake shika imasen!”
Maji LOVE Legend Star
I was expecting Maji LOVE 2000% as the last song as they already sang 1000% earlier. But they did not sing it, much to my frustration huhuhu. I think they might have been adjustments to the set list as we didn’t get 2000%, Revolutions, and Mirai, Yume, Arigatou
Soshite! which I think everyone expected to be there. Again this is because of the lack of time due to the delay.
The seiyuus especially ST☆RISH was aware that many of the audience came in late. SuwaJun asked who among the crowd did not make it right in time for the first song, and got a huge amount of hands and screams as a response. In compensation for that, they sang Maji LOVE Legend Star once again as the last song. I’m so glad that I was given a second chance to properly sing with them together this time. So I just went all out singing “Peace! Chu! Hey! Go! Legend Star!”
Goodbyes, Thank Yous
The cast gathered at the center of the stage, stood side by side holding hands, as they said thank you without holding their mics. That was so precious awwwww. They then made rounds on the stage waving goodbye and repeatedly saying “arigatou!” to everyone. Mirai, Yume, Arigatou
Soshite! was playing in the background. Each of them also passed in front of the camera, doing whatever poses like winks, kisses, high-fives, fist bumps, etc. Mamo, ofc, being Mamo, showed off his body as he pulled his shirt up. And OMG Kiiyan, did the same but the camera stayed longer, which then killed me lol.
ST☆RISH was the last one to get off stage, and as the curtain (whatever is that) slowly went down, they all kept waving to the point of lying on the floor just to wave up until the last moment that they can be seen, which made me love them even more. ❀
Tumblr media
“See you again” was flashed on the screen after voice overs from each of the cast saying goodbye to everyone.

Waaaa. I’ve sworn to go to 6th stage ever since I missed the chance to go to 5th stage last year. I’ve been looking forward to this event so much because I know that it would bring so much happiness. I mean, just watching the DVDs of the previous lives made me very, very happy, so what more if I were there in person. I’ve prayed for this more than any other event I’ve wanted to attend and God knows how much grateful I am that this dream has come true. And indeed, I believe this is the event of my year and one of the happiest times of my life. I don’t think I’ve ever screamed that much in my whole life. And I had this much good time despite the shortcomings so what more if everything actually worked out smoothly. I’ll definitely be there next stage, and sing 2000% and Revolutions too, with everyone. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH. I can’t wait for the DVD PLEASE COME OUT ALREADY!
Tumblr media
At least on this day, Kiiyan and I wore the same ring on our left ring fingers. Yay! (I wasn’t able to get a Tokiya ring for Mamo tho)

Week One DWTS Review!
Sorry this took me so long guys, but maybe it can be a little refresher before we do it all again tonight. Here are my impressions of Night One: Opening Number I thought this was really fun! Great song and I thought the concept was fun too. I love a good pro number and all of my babies looked hot hot hot! Val and Normani I wasn't that familiar with Normani but I think she's gorgeous and I loved their dance. I thought they did a great job of blending in some modern style to the dance. Quickstep is a hard dance right out of the gate- I don't remember this being a week one dance style in the past. They nailed it though and both seemed to be enjoying it. She has amazing stage presence and charisma and should go far in the competition. 7/6/7/7 and Len was beings stingy with that 6. Nancy Kerrigan and Artem She's still got it! I thought Nancy was beautiful and it was a great style to start off with for her- graceful is right in her wheelhouse from her skating days. I can tell that she has kind of a perfectionist personality (probably true for a lot of Olympians) so I hope she can relax and enjoy the process. Even though she is older she is in great shape and I wouldn't underestimate her. Looking forward to see how she does in the Latin dances- if she can shake her hips she might be a dark horse in this competition. Also I loved her dress. 7/7/7/7 well deserved. Chris and Whitney Mango! He pulled off the character and comedy of this dance well but the dancing itself... not so much. He broke his neck too? I want the story... he is funny though and they seem to be having fun. Interesting choice to give him Wit as his partner. The scores were brutal though... c'mon it was the first dance. 5/4/4/4 and they could have done 5's and gotten their point across without being jerks. He seemed sad about it. Bonner and Sharna That package was soooo extra. The slow shirt removal.... we get it guys, he's sexy and they're hot together. Try for some subtlety next time. Seems like he might not be as far in his injury recovery as Noah and James- still learning how his body works and his limits. I loved the little solo parts of his dance- he seemed really sure and confident on those but I think he got a little off during the partnering part. Will need to work on his posture and carriage a bit but overall great start and a very entertaining dance. 6/5/5/6 and I thought the 5's were low and the innuendos even lower. Charo and Keo! Okay how can you not love this hilarious hot mama? She is SOOOOOOO over the top I just can't. Did she hump Keo at their first meeting? Honestly the dancing was pretty good but her personality upstages her moves. She's very expressive for someone who I think can only move half of her face! 6/5/5/5 and she was ready to fight about it. Peta and Chris: Well Peta looks amazing only a short time post birth. He's kind of funny but I think it could get annoying after a while? Better dancing than I expected and I liked the modern flair on their cha cha. 6/6/6/6 Heather and Maks Oh, Maks. I love you but stop overcompensating with your cockiness. He has his funny moments though. He seems happy and inspired and that's my favorite Maks. I missed his ass - literally and figuratively. Anywho, Heather is a beautiful performer and I really enjoyed the dancing and the choreography. She's a contender but no surprise there. 7/7/7/7 well deserved. David and Lindsay Lindsay's outfit is so cute! Okay this whole dance was really cute, what can I say? He seems like a sweetheart. 7/7/7/7 I wasn't expecting him to do so well but aren't surprises fun? Glen and Erica OMG the unicorn where did that come from Glen? Another big personality. I appreciate her ambition and how unapologetic she is for her confidence and sexuality. Dancing wise... not bad but a little clunky. She needs to work on being more fluid and on her timing maybe? I think she's a hard worker and taking this competition seriously and that surprised me for a "real housewife" 6/6/6/6 was fair Rashad and Emma Ooooooh these two are hot! He's got the moves, the looks, the charisma... can I just tell you how happy I am that Emma finally has a capable partner? She is amazing and deserves a real shot now and then, and she just may have it! On the men's side, he's the one to watch, talent wise. 8/7/8/8 Mr. T and Kym Kym! She is back and she is gorgeous. Proud hubby Robert in the audience. Mr. T is a big dude with a big heart. I appreciated his reasons for doing the show and his full effort. Sadly he got waaaaay off but he tried to sell it with his enthusiasm. 5/5/5/5 Simone and Sasha I'm a big Simone fan in the gymnastics world and I was not disappointed by her performance tonight. I love that Sasha was fanboy-ing over being partnered with her. I think they're a great match. "Is this your first time looking into a boy's eyes?" "Well, you're welcome." She looked gorgeous and mature and, of course, rocked it because she is a superhuman. I don't care if she's a ringer; she deserves all of the things. 8/8/8/8 and we have our frontrunner.

Learning Lessons from 2016 - How Did we Survive Year One!
Now, I am not here to misrepresent to anyone how easy or difficult it is to be a photographer in Singapore. Quite honestly, it is difficult to be a photographer (or simply a creative individual) in any part of world. In today's day and age with the economic landscape and growing openness to explore art in general, more and more people are stepping into the game. So, let us not fool ourselves into thinking that how easy or difficult venturing into the arts industry is a geographical issue. It is really an issue of your mindset, abilities and willingness to learn from both successes and mistakes.
In this article I will explore my thoughts over the mindset I developed so that HyperFrontal Productions survives to see another year. These steps/ methods/ strategies or whatever else you would like to call them are gems of wisdom I believe every creative individual should adopt whether you are running a business or pursuing your creative freedom as a freelancer. I hope what I share drives that inspirational nail back home for you as much as it has for me!
1) Make Friends, not Clients!
I kept in mind that while I am running a business, it is, at the end of the day, a photography/ media services business and not a corporation-styled "paper-and-pen-pushing" business. The idea is to connect with hearts, be great at your work and maintain humility.
In some of my first few client meetings, I dressed all formal and spoke generically. Many times, it did not work for me. Negotiating in the creative industry is not one of promises of profits. It is really about you being likable. There has to be that raw deal about you that stands out over your competitors. Yes, your work has to be great too, but, just go look around and see how many people out there are producing incredible work. What makes you stand out from them?
I found that appearing like a friend was more important than appearing like a businessman or artist. The reason why dressing up like I was applying for a job at a bank did not work is because THIS IS NOT AN INDUSTRY THAT IS IMPRESSED BY SUPERFICIALITY but, rather by your ability to express, evoke, and emote.
Your ingenuity is in building long-term relationships and not plainly going all out for just short-term monetary goals. Remember, clients who like you and your work will most likely be the ones sharing them out to the rest of their work and social circle, not the clients who will be putting their watermark on the content you create and only using them to market their products.
2) Be Different!
How many times has someone from another industry advised you to "play it safe" and measure things carefully before you do whatever it is you want to do? Often enough, a creative individual will have to dare to do something completely different to stand out. For me, it was Bedtime Tales: An Exhibition of Illustrative Photography (among many other projects that I did).  This is something people from other industries will write-off as impulsive or bad financial decision-making.
When an idea comes to mind (and it is not going to cause you to kill yourself, someone else or go bankrupt), it is best to just give it a shot because you may never know what comes out of it. It is your creative-self's wisdom to understand that impulse is a gift and curse. I learnt to work with it and, sometimes, drew a balance or imposed certain limits that allowed me to explore not only my art, but, myself too.
Mid-last year, the thought came to mind to turn important literary quotes into photographic art. One thing led to another and this year I am having my solo show! Had I stuck to the standard way of patiently waiting, like how most people do for a job promotion, I would have probably talked myself out of trying to do something different - which would have led me to miss on what has to be the best thing to happen in my career as a photographer so far.
So, never be satisfied and just keep pushing out content that is different and who knows...
3) Learn!
The Rule of Law in all of the creative wisdom is that no one is above learning. Whether you are a 20 years veteran or a 20 days amateur in your field of art, learning is never ending. I found that what held me back in the past was my ego.
Ego, like fire, is a good slave and bad master. It is, of course, impossible to completely eradicate egoism so the other way around this is to befriend it and use it to drive you towards betterment. Prior to setting up HyperFrontal Productions, I used to get flabbergasted whenever my work was critiqued negatively. My negative reception converted into negative perception and I was on my way to giving up on photography. In an attempt to save my passion, I decided to start watching videos on photography. Here is the great thing about the time we live in, YOU CAN GOOGLE-SEARCH ALMOST ANYTHING!
The Millennium will go down in history as the era where mankind rediscovered learning. So, what then is your excuse? The vast deep blue sea of resources made available to us today is something our seniors would have really appreciated, especially in the time of film cameras. Why, then, are we so reluctant to learn?
"I do not think I need to learn anymore because I am already at such a level" VERSUS "I am already at such a level, let's see what else is there I could learn to carry me beyond." Which one are you?
4) Personal Projects
This stems off of the point of being different, except that, now we are leaning towards being defiantly progressive. One of the meanings of "progress" as a noun (according to Google Search) is "development towards an improved or more advanced condition." The only meaning that the word has to me is to "NEVER EVER EVER EVER STOP." The moment an idea comes to mind, get consumed by it, build on it, be obsessed over developing it, and then, finally, deliver it.
The reason why I bring an element of defiance to this is because you are only truly invested into an idea when you want to deliver it no matter the obstacles (though, I stress again, as long as it does not kill you, anyone else, or bankrupts you). Ironically, this is one of the only times you would notice that "defiance" actually might have a similar meaning with "discipline".
It is through taking on several personal projects that you practice consistency. There are two things to gain from this. Firstly, you are always improving because you are always pushing your creative juices. Secondly, you are also delivering more to your audience.
Admittedly, HyperFrontal Productions does not have a huge following as compared to some of the other photography sites out there. However, that does not mean I have no responsibility towards those who are following our social media, and, more importantly, that does not mean my social media presence will never grow.
Consistent delivery of personal projects is a great way of showing your capabilities as an artist and furthermore gives people a reason to stay invested or even promote your work out to others.
In November of last year, I approached a darling friend, Ylenia Casali, who is a stage actress from Italy to work on a project called INTENTIONS. The project was a provocative look at how we can express without using the two easiest forms of expression, the face and the speech. The project had garnered us a lot of compliments internationally. Although there were no physical rewards to it, it was a proud moment for her and myself.
It showed me my strengths and made me realize that if I could work harder and deliver more content like that, one fine day, I may actually reach that golden destination.
Your time to shine can be anytime, it is just whether you are going to wait for opportunities or create them instead...
5) Drive
I brought up a complain to a friend and mentor, Kamil Haque, founder of Haque Centre of Acting and Creativity, about the lack of support I receive. My complain spanned out to little nitty-gritty observations about people and how it disturbed me. His reply was succinct but impactful. He said, "the path of a creative individual is a lonely one. You're going to have to rely on yourself for almost everything."
While we all may have family and friends rooting for us, it is important to keep in mind that external motivation does not work if there is a lacking of internal motivation. The logic is really simple, why would anyone want to put in effort into you if you do not want to put in effort into yourself first?
Then, there will be times where no matter what you say or how good your work is, people (including friends) will simply not support you in the way you want them to. The general content consumers on social media are, for a lack of better term, hypocrites. They would react to content that a famous individual puts out but not yours. Unfortunately, it is a waste of time to try combating the mindset of the general content consumers on social media, therefore, even I will choose to not get into it too much. My concentration is myself and my work, not the opinions of others.
Whether it is that you lack motivation or it is simply that you have not gained the attention of others on social media, nothing is not as important as what you think of yourself. This path is your own and fulfilling it alone comes with its own satisfaction. Yes, it is always nice to have a support system but, finding that one person who is willing to be there for you while you toil through this path is incredibly rare. Then again, if you have someone there already hold them tight and never let go!
The reason why I chose to write about drive instead of hard work is because there are hundreds of thousands of articles and videos out there telling you that hard work is everything. WRONG! Before hard work, you need drive - you need self-confidence and you have to be sure that you have built a self-motivating mechanism in your mind.
People will disappoint you almost 100 percent of the time. Keep your expectations low, live simple and build motivation internally. External support will come after that...
IN SUMMARY
The path of a creative individual is a difficult path in the technical sense. However, your mind at the end of the day gives you the final say. I am of the opinion that most educational/ inspirational articles or videos shared only tell you things that you already know. What I have shared are building-blocks of an impenetrable mindset to help in pursuing your creative freedom. Anyone can tell you that you must work hard, but what exactly do you use to build that up with is something far more important than hard work itself, the mentality of Conqueror of your path to creative freedom.
