Okay. Let's talk Jamie and Roy getting beers and being idiots.
I know we are all still processing that whirlwind of a finale. I'm understanding that a lot of people hate the Roy & Jamie scene because it is 1) backslide-y (true) 2) they treat Keeley like a prize to be won (true) and 3) it's OOC (I actually disagree with this one, but I can understand why it's complicated). I want to start off by saying I completely see where this opinion is coming from and I respect everyone who just hates the scene because it shows normally kind characters being very unkind to each other etc. This is less me arguing against that as it is me trying to articulate (at great length, sorry) why it not only worked for me, but I genuinely liked it.
I like to think I strike a balance between loving everything the show has done and hating overwhelmingly on a show I claim to enjoy, but sure, you could definitely argue that I'm just giving my favorite characters the benefit of the doubt, or making excuses for them, because they're my favorite characters. I'll admit I'm historically very forgiving of all the main characters' many fuck-ups on Ted Lasso, but that's because I think the show works best when it emphasizes how kindness, forgiveness, friendship and love can still operate between imperfect, flawed people. I like seeing them make realistic mistakes much more than I like everyone handling everything perfectly, I'll bite.
So, back to Jamie and Roy. I enjoyed their finale plot because despite them making a world of mistakes, the regression felt very, very human. I don't agree at all with the take that this somehow erased all the progress they've made this season or the friendship the show has lovingly crafted between them. In fact, I think this actively reiterated it! (Note: I am operating with my ot3 goggles on at all times, so I'm going to write this with that at least partially in mind, but I think the gist of it works even if you ignore the bits that get a little shippy.)
For both Jamie and Roy, Keeley and their love for her is a major beacon guiding them. I think that is the crisp, clear thing in both of their heads this episode: Keeley is the love of my life. And they both believe that wholeheartedly, and they both want to be with her. (and it's goofy to pretend this came out of nowhere for Jamie/since when is Jamie still in love with her/etc. because he literally told her and us this last season and nothing that has happened since has indicated otherwise, btw.) But there's also something else now, which is their relationship with each other, battling with their Keeley thoughts. It's like, in Roy's head, for instance, I imagine there are two wolves: on the one hand he loves Keeley, and wants to be with her, and plans to win back her heart. On the other hand, there's his love and care for Jamie Tartt, which is much less defined and inarticulate and maybe still a little repressed, but just as overpowering. His love for Keeley feels so simple and clear in comparison, while his love for Jamie is something complicated and unsure, and in this episode, he's leaning hard into the first to avoid unpacking the second.
So Roy starts off strong. He sees Jamie with Keeley in the hallway and he doesn't flip out!! Instead, he approaches Jamie calmly, and invites him out for beers. Think about how different this is from his reaction to Jamie's love confession to Keeley in season 2. This is Roy's growth in action, and it's a resounding sign of just how important Jamie is to Roy now. Even when he is feeling jealous of the woman he loves potentially leaving him behind for a man he loves (a completely natural reaction, let's be so real, if not a "good" one), he also knows that for as much as he wants to be with Keeley, he doesn't want to lose his friendship with Jamie.
As for Jamie, I know some people took his reaction and subsequent response to Nate's question as like, shock at the realization that he and Roy are actually friends now, which I agree is something that had to have come earlier in the timeline (what was Mom City if not that) and would seem very out of place at this point. What I saw it as instead was Jamie's brain more just. sort of short-circuiting? Because: holy shit isn't this the best day ever? First Keeley agreed to go to Brazil with me and now Roy is asking me on a date for beers? this is so sound. This invite is out of place behavior from Roy even within the parameters of their friendship, because they still have a match to win and Roy has banned Jamie from beers as part of his training and despite them being close now I find it hard to believe that Roy often comes up to him right there in dressing room to ask him to grab a beer with no pretense.
Therefore, they're already walking into that bar in completely different head-spaces. Jamie isn't planning to discuss Keeley, and for Roy that is his major intention behind the evening. Jamie is nervous and downing his beer, and Roy is internally panicking, I'm imagining, over when and how to bring Keeley up. I think Roy is thinking: Well, I don't intend to stop pursuing Keeley, I genuinely don't want Jamie's feelings to be hurt when I get back together with her (and yes, it is a huge presumption for him to assume Keeley's going to eventually take him back. But I think it's also an understandable one), so I've got to tell Jamie I care about him, and that I'm going to keep going after Keeley, and he needs to be okay with that so that this won't get in the way of our friendship, which I also desperately need and am unwilling to give up. In his mind, Jamie is of course going to accept all of this, because Roy and Keeley are soulmates, which Jamie will clearly recognize deep down because it is so obvious and right and anyway, Jamie always does what Roy tells him to do (again, this is all misguided thinking. But we can see how Roy's anxious little brain that's bad at processing feelings and holding space for emotions could get himself here, can't we?).
So again, we start off strong with Roy saying he's proud of Jamie and them both thanking one another. But then Roy's blurting out nonsense about how Jamie just needs to pull himself out of the running and just let Roy be with Keeley. Which is obviously not on. And Jamie responds, simply, with No. I'd argue this is also a huge step for Jamie. Jamie really doesn't tell Roy no anymore, he doesn't tell anyone no. Jamie has spent so much of his time since coming back to Richmond working to be the person everyone around him wants and expects him to be. This is him fighting for something he wants for once, doing what is best for him. It was a fabulous progression to see. In the moment, boy does it work Roy up, because why is Jamie not agreeing with me, Jamie always agrees with me? but obviously at this point, Jamie is in the right. His relationship with Keeley was no less meaningful than Roy's just because Roy says it was, Roy doesn't have any claim on her, and there's no real reason Jamie should not try and shoot his shot with Keeley if Roy is going to do the same.
Here's where things start to spiral. Established flaws we know about Roy: he's competitive. He's bad at voicing his feelings productively. And he is territorial about the people he loves, a category that safely includes both Jamie and Keeley at this point in time, for better and sometimes worse. Yes, his next actions are grossly possessive over Keeley, yes Roy has made a lot of effort over the past year to do and be better than that, to break free of that cycle. But look, it's not a linear process. He's going to still mess up, and he does here. In fact he's downright mean, weaponizing Keeley against Jamie and throwing having sex with Keeley a month ago into Jamie's face, bragging about it, boasting. Same old cycle, same old patterns of ego-driven, prideful mistakes.
Which promptly prompts Jamie to also fuck up by bringing up the leak. It's a concentrated response intended to get a suitable rise out of Roy, because Roy has really, genuinely hurt him here, and Jamie knows bringing up that video is the one thing that will hurt Roy just as much in turn. It's not the right thing to do, obviously, but again, it's such a human thing to do. Hurt the person who's hurt you right back, even if you're hurting someone else (Keeley) by extension. Mind you, Jamie came here expecting a hangout (/date) with Roy over a rare beer, and instead he got Roy being a complete asshole and lecturing nonsense at him out of seemingly nowhere. He reacts to this change-up, well, not greatly. There is something so messy and emotionally complicated happening here and it hinges on how very much Jamie and Roy care about each other, not negates it.
Keeley, queen that she is, rejects them both out of hand and kicks them out not the curb immediately because they're both being complete idiots, acting like they're so gracious in giving her the honor and privilege of choosing between them. Not to mention they've clearly got something going on between them they haven't worked through and that sure as shit isn't her problem, is it? Keeley (presumably, and I wish we had seen this) calls them out their shit and tosses them right back out the door.
Which leaves Jamie and Roy to lament how they've let their egos get away from them, they've been idiots (which they acknowledge immediately) and decide that now they should go for kebabs, presumably to actually hangout this time, not to interrupt themselves with inflated talk about who "deserves" Keeley more. They both screwed up, they acknowledge it, and all they can do is try again tomorrow, and in the meantime, go on that kebab date.
I guess....I can just see where both of them are coming from? it's not mature behavior, obviously, it's maybe not what we would have liked to have seen from them in the finale episode of the show. But it was regression that I didn't feel impeded their overall progress. Roy in particular was being a complete dick about it, but that's why the very next morning he's finally knocking on the Diamond Dogs' door. And honestly, that conversation was heartbreaking. When Roy admitted he'd expected, after a year of putting in the work, to be a whole new person...god. This is a man who still completely hates himself, to the point where he can't quite grasp that he can be better where he's at now, that he doesn't have to transform magically into someone new in order to do right by himself and others. And so he has to consciously determine, once again, to do better, be better.
The message is: change isn't linear, you're going to fuck-up, and fall back into old patterns. What matters is trying every day to do better together, and be better for one another, than you were the day before. That is the meeting point all three sides of the royjamiekeeley triangle were heading towards by the end of the episode.
So yes, it was rushed, because no one gets much screen time in a finale (and the overarching issue with this season anyway is god awful pacing. The last three episodes could've easily been the second half of the season, while the first half of the season was stretched out and largely extraneous). And yes, I would've liked a more thoughtful follow-up conversation between Roy and Keeley or all three of them. My biggest issue was that we didn't get to hear Keeley's voice hardly at all. I would at the very least have liked to have seen her setting them straight at her kitchen table, because turning both of them down signifies very important growth in her, too, and I would've liked exploring that more explicitly. So it wasn't perfect. But I still liked it, I really did.

Hiya! I would love to request a fic based on the scene in the last episode where the fans storm the field?? Like you’d be the first leading the crowd to get Jamie♥️
This one is a little short, but hopefully it’s what you’re looking for!
Tumblr media
something to rely on
Honestly, you never cared about football more than when you started dating Jamie Tartt, and you don’t think you’ve ever cared as much as you do at the West Ham game.
You’re fucking sweating.
You’re sandwiched in between Rebecca and Keeley and you are so goddamn stressed, especially because Jamie had been acting so weird and barely talked about it, to the point where pretty much your only interaction had been sitting on the couch or laying in bed, while he clung to you like he was afraid you’d disappear.
It was so, so weird and it’s giving you whiplash from the Jamie you met, the one who’s confident and cocky, and just a little bit of a prick but in a sexy way you like, not in a dickish way. At least not to you.
You knew it’s because of the fact that he was headed back to Manchester and the atmosphere toward him was… less than friendly, but you also knew that he had to be looking for his dad. Jamie’s always on edge if there’s the possibility of his dad showing up.
He got it together though, with help from Ted, but you’re still nervous. West Ham is crushing Richmond at halftime, and you’re holding Rebecca’s arm like it’s a lifeline. It feels like everything they’ve worked for is slipping away until, from out of nowhere, the score is 2-2. You’re watching Jamie, completely surrounded, but Richmond gets a free kick and he grabs the ball to set it up.
Keeley has a death grip on your knee and you’re fairly certain none of you are breathing. Jamie’s signaling for the ball, but Sam- Sam is completely open. He receives the ball, makes the goal, and you’re on your feet, going hoarse from screaming as the game is signaled to be at its end.
Fans start to storm the pitch and you glance at Rebecca with a question on your face.
She rolls her eyes good-naturedly. “Oh go on, then,” she says and then you’re clambering over her to zip down the stairs as fast as you possibly can. You hear Keeley ask, “Where the fuck’s she going?” but you honestly don’t even care.
You’re on the field frantically searching for Jamie and calling his name, when a couple fans move and you see him across the way. You’re sprinting toward each other and you launch yourself into his arms, spinning around till he puts you on the ground and dips you for a kiss.
It’s the best kiss of your life.
You finally pull away, breathless and laughing. He presses his forehead to your and for a moment, you’re the only two on the pitch.
“Fucking knew you could do it,” you whisper. “Knew you were a great actor ever since Lust Conquers All.”
Jamie replies, “Oi, come off it,” but he’s staring at your lips with such a hungry look that you know he doesn’t mean it.
You’re about to kiss him again when you hear a voice say, “I fucking knew it.”
You both jump to see Isaac two feet away.
“How the fuck?” Jamie asks. “We did so good at hiding it.”
“Body language, bruv,” Isaac responds. “You two act weird every time you’re in the same room.”
You shrug. Jamie’s hands are on your waist and your arms are still around his neck, but neither of you care. Screw secrecy; if there were ever a time to let people know you’re together, this is it.

I find it fascinating to witness the straight audience of any media not being able to pick up what the makers of the movie/show puts down.
It’s like when people reacted to the “You wear fine things well” scene in Our Flag Means Death with “aw, they’re such good friends” whereas the queer audience went “omg, this is happening”. We all had access to the same scene, we’d all watched the build up to that scene but the straight audience wrongly read it as friends/straight whereas the queer audience had suspected they were building up to a romance but this was the confirmation. Even the creator of the show was baffled that people were surprised that Ed and Stede fell in love. Because he thought they had made it obvious.
And as I said, we, the queer audience picked up on it. And I feel like the same thing is happening with Ted Lasso. Do I know that Ted and Trent will get together? No, I am unfortunately not a writer on Ted Lasso. But you can’t deny that there are clues pointing to it. But the straight audience barely pick up the fact that Ted and Trent like each other, be that in a platonic way or romantic way. I’ve seen several reactions to the last episode of season 2 and ONE of them included the scene where Ted reacts to Trent not being in the press room. All of them severely cut down the scene in the parking lot. One of the scenes most of us Ted/Trent truthers point to as a huge piece of evidence for it going canon. The parallel of them meeting in an empty parking lot, just like Ted and his ex-wife and Roy and Keeley. But because Ted and Trent are both men it couldn’t possibly mean anything. And Ted has an ex-wife and a kid so he can’t possibly be into men, as if there is no such thing as being bisexual. “But I’m pretty sure Trent has a family, he has a kid right?” So? He could be divorced, we also have no idea if his daughter has another dad or a mum. And the same thing applies to him, it doesn’t mean he can’t be into men (take also into account all of James Lance’s interviews, and his choice of shirt in one of them, friend of Dorothy anyone? He's the captain of this ship, we're just along for the ride tbh.)
Then we have the wonderful “I’m so not homophobic, in fact, you are homophobic because you think Ted is gay just because he likes musicals and has ‘feminine’ traits” um no… it’s the fact that he kind of acts in a way that an ally wouldn't. Yeah, he called himself an ally in that one episode. But every single person who is now out as queer who at one point considered themselves an ally because "I’m not one of them but I sure think they're neat" raise a hand 🖐️ (been there, done that. Was very into queer things before I realised I myself am one of them). What it always comes down to is "it's pandering", "it's tokenism" (having the main character on the show be queer wouldn't be fucking tokenism), "not everything has to be gay", "why can't men just be friends, there is a severe lack of male friendships on tv". And like the last one makes me go??? There are a MILLION friendships between men on TV. There are even multiple friendships between men in Ted Lasso. Beard and Ted, Ted and Higgins, Ted and Roy, the himbos and so on. Having Ted and Trent become a couple wouldn't really change anything because there are still friendships between men. They also claim that Ted is needed as the "straight without toxic masculinity" representation. As if Beard isn't right there. The man who has no problem going to an immersive show about the menstrual cycle. Has no problem with shrieking when he's surprised and so on.
I also like that if we'd get Ted and Trent together, we'd get two middle aged queer dads. Which isn't that common. It's not even super common to see people realising they're queer late in life on TV, and yet it happens every day. Because let's face it, most queer men on TV kind of look like Colin, and I don't mean that as a bad thing. And I'm looking forward to his storyline. But it's also nice seeing middle aged or old people finding themselves and being allowed to be who they are (see Ed and Stede from OFMD). Also would enjoy seeing people lose their minds when they realise they've been fooled this entire time. It'll be like Black Sails all over again.
I do not have any doubts about the fact that, had Trent or Ted been a woman and they saw Trent give up his career because of Ted's influence, they sure as hell wouldn't protest people thinking they'd become a couple. But because it's two men it's just delusional for some reason (homophobia).
What I'm saying is, it's clear that the straight audience has a hard time picking up subtext and clues that the makers are planting. Because they've never had to do that. Because they are always clearly represented. They don't have to look for minor side characters and hope that they might be queer. Because the main character is straight and most of the supporting cast too. When you've grown up with a lack of representation or with representation that is meant to be subtext, you'll learn to pick up on it. And you do look at media differently. I just wish that the straight audience could listen to us for once, without getting defensive and dancing around the fact that they are uncomfortable relating to a character that turned out to be queer.

3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
"Keeley is a maternal figure for Jamie." my sibling in christ. what are you and your mama up to. those two FUCK and they LIKE IT. also Jamie already has a mummy. he never took her poster off his wank wall for fuck's sake she ain't a maternal figure for him (now she might be mommy buuuuut i ain't getting into alla THAT)
"Jamie and Georgie's interactions were borderline incestuous in Mom City." y'all can't talk about dismantling the patriarchy and toxic masculinity and turn around and call it "developmentally inappropriate" for a grown man to cuddle his mummy when he's upset and depressed. especially because i know, i KNOW y'all wouldn't have said that if Georgie was Dottie Lasso shaped. y'all didn't say that when Sam was cuddling with Ola. y'all said it because you turned that woman into a sexual object. unpack that shit
edited i forgot the cut lmao
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
Jamie is a secretly self-loathing insecure mess. Did you watch the show? not once, not ONCE has Jamie demonstrated self-loathing or a lack of self-confidence. He had to learn how to not treat other people like shit, not how to hate himself.
Roy is a perfect uwu bean who has never been mean in his life ever ever. again. have you watched this show? in season one he was a whole 38 year old grown ass adult legend in his own time beefing with a fucking 23 year old whose best insult was calling him granddad. be for fucking real. and he didn't even try to captain that team until Ted jedi mind gamed him into it because he was wallowing in self-pity. i love him, but season one Roy was absolutely as unbearable as season one Jamie, the narrative just emotionally manipulated us about it differently. that's what makes him interesting. perfect soft uwu bean boy is BORING stop trying to convince me Roy is boring
Ted is depressed and suicidal and sacrificing his happiness in kansas. Shut the entire fuck up. That man was yelling about how homesick he was for kansas every chance he had for the entire run of the show. Also related is the "ted gave up his entire richmond family and support system to go back to kansas" hmm did he though? Realistically, did he really develop a close knit community and support system in richmond? other than the diamond dogs, whom he routinely ignored? all of his interactions with the wider richmond community (the pub, the shopkeepers, etc) were superficial. he never even learned to drive there. he never put down roots there and he didn't want to, because he wanted to go home to Henry, and he wanted to go home to KANSAS. don't even talk to me about the rebecca soulmates thing you can still be friends with people even if you don't live in the same country
19. you're mad/ashamed/horrified that you actually kind of like…
Nate/Jade. look, my feelings about nate are complicated because they dropped the ball on showing instead of telling, which is bullshit because nick mohammed woulda ATE. i subscribe to the theory that they had a much more expansive storyline planned for Nate and rethought it after being surprised by how vitriolic and racist the hate was after season 2. unFORTUNATELY, that meant they didn't close the loop on what they already did, and tried to fill the gap with a girlfriend, which is a trope i loathe. on the other hand, Jade is fucking awesome and i can't help liking them and the way she affectionately trolls him mercilessly. i'm not even getting into the idiots on this hellsite trying to insist that Jade's behavior towards him was racist. she's a customer service employee who's seen a million insecure men trying to play games in her face and she treated him accordingly until he quit it with his nonsense, and then she gave him a chance because Nate is actually lovely when he's squashing his tendency to be a vicious cruel jerk

Nate is really one of the most interesting characters to me, because his character begs the question: what happens when your life gets better but you’re still not happy?
Because we see how Nate is in the beginning. We root for him and we love the attention that he gets and how he gets his time to shine. Ted’s methods clearly work for a lot of the characters, it has its merit, and Nate (at first) is no exception. He’s promoted to being a coach, he’s getting attention, the team is also improving so they’re being kinder and everything is better now, right?
Except in season 2 (and 3!) we see the cracks - in Nate, but for all the coaches, really, because ironically the coaches who are mentoring the players and telling them to believe are also the ones we see struggling with that mentality the most. Beard’s one of Ted’s strongest supporters, his right-hand man, but we see in Beard’s episode how deep his depression and self-hatred run. Roy isn’t exactly screaming Ted’s methods from the rooftops, but we see how he slowly accepts it and appreciates it, and how it does help him - but he struggles with finding his purpose and feeling wanted and needed, and it shines in quitting things early and never getting proper closure in things he really loved, with him constantly wondering if he ever really made the best choice (his team, his job, his relationship with Keeley). Ted struggles to express these negative emotions and it spirals quickly, especially in season 2.
And Nate? Nate watches as his life objectively gets better, but struggles because his anger and resentment don’t go away. He gets the attention from Ted but (even though it’s not the intention!) feels as if Ted drops him the second things improve. He gets a better job but his father will never say he’s proud. He tries to exude confidence but Jade (who’s most likely seen him for a while since it’s his favorite restaurant) immediately sees through through his persona and Doesn’t Care and Nate is so thrown off by it. He keeps looking for that validation through other people and we see that clear frustration because everything is better on paper so then why are the bad feelings still there? With every win, with every improvement, he gets angrier and more frustrated and then it spirals into him leaving for West Ham and Rupert. With Rupert, Nate leans in on hey, nobody loved me at my lowest and nobody loved me at my best, so maybe I’ll try being my worst.
And god, I LOVE that even though fans thought he’d fail and that this would humble him into a redemption, he hasn’t. He tries to go with Rupert and get that validation from him and we see how much he struggles with that, because now he’s leaning in at what Rupert wants and we see how much he hates that, but Nate’s also at a point where Rupert’s attention is clearly conditional, he’s still not getting that fatherly validation, and he knows that and that’s where we see him finally start to come into his true self. Jade finally softens because she sees Nate holding strong to his opinion on Taste of Athens and admitting he’s putting on an act, he’s being honest and himself for the first time in those scenes. He tries to cultivate a relationship with the other employees and even if the Diamond Dogs ripoff didn’t work? They still invited him to drinks this episode! He sees Rupert for who he is and he goes back to Jade, and he wants so, so much to apologize to Ted for everything.
Nate’s moved from a positive environment to this conditional one and the narrative could have easily went “Nate has crashed and burned and now realizes what he messed up” but instead it allowed Nate to figure out who he is and who he wants to be, by himself. He’s still growing and learning, of course, but he’s well on his way, and I think it’s just such a cool way to show that what’s helpful for some people can be incredibly detrimental for others if it doesn’t target what they need and that there’s so many avenues for a person to grow and improve themselves.

I know that Jamie/Colin isn't the focus of this blog, but I really liked your "Locker Room Conversations" ficlet, and I was wondering if you had any headcanons/thoughts on how, in an alternate universe, a Jamie/Colin might shake out.
Well, to be honest I’ve never really thought about it too much since I don’t particularly ship Jamie/Colin, but let’s see what I can scrounge up for you, ey?
The one actual headcanon I do have:
Colin had a bit of a crush on Jamie back when Jamie first joined the team, and Jamie knew about it but never said anything. I entertain this notion at least half-seriously because I find it’s very entertaining to think about Jamie knowing and not really reflecting much on it, other than to go “uh yeah of course he has a crush on me who can blame him i mean have you seen me?”
Pre-canon angst
If you want something early and angsty and potentially canon-compliant, you could have the two of them hooking up before Jamie and Keeley get together (we have no idea when that was, but I think it was after Jamie joined Richmond purely for logistical reasons – hassle keeping a London girlfriend when you live in Manchester),. For Jamie it’s mostly about getting off and feeling a bit better about himself (both from making Colin feel good sexually and from Colin being a bit of a fanboy, giving his ego a boost) because Jamie’s not in a great place at this time. For Colin, there’s also feelings, so yes. Angst. Could end on that unhappy note, or you could go full AU and have Jamie slowly realizing that actually, he cares for Colin. (SHOCKER!) Obviously you’d need a turning point of Colin taking a stand and breaking things off with Jamie because he doesn’t want to be used like this anymore. He is a strong and capable man who deserves better! Cue Jamie having to prove his genuine affection and woe Colin back. Very classic rom-com vibe, and thus not my style at all, but I’m trying to give offer you a variety of flavour here.
Season 2 Enemies to lovers
In an another world, I think there’s a lot of potential for something set early during season 2, when Jamie first returns to Richmond. As mentioned in my recent post, I’m very intrigued by Colin’s reaction to this and how they go from him being very angry with Jamie to loving him so much, man. Besides, enemies to lovers is my one true ship trope, so I might even read this if I ever came across it.
Vanilla version: Colin is working hard to convince himself that he’s a strong and capable man, and he doesn’t need Jamie Tartt reminding him – simply by being around – of the person he used to be only a year before. Jamie is hellbent on repairing their friendship, though, and while initially Colin finds some measure of petty satisfaction at seeing Jamie’s bumbling attempts at making amends, he’s little by little and in spite of himself won over. I can see Jamie persistently taking him out on friend dates and Colin first agreeing only because he kind of enjoys torturing Jamie a little by being an ass, but Jamie is undettered and then they start having a really good time together and in therapy Colin comes to realize that part of his anger with Jamie is really anger with his own past behaviour – and maybe some shame over having had a crush on someone who was such an asshole. Over time, soft and mushy feelings develop. There are lots of hand-holding and cuddling and watching reality shows and bitching about the contestants together. They go on really stupid fucking adventures and love clubbing and once they come out to the team they are really kind of insufferable because their joint himbo energy is a threat to all of mankind, but they are so fucking adorable it’s hard to be mad (except for when they bring their bitchiest selves and team up to bring it down on everyone else, epic sassy style).
Dark/angsty/kinky version: Jamie is doing his best to make things right with the team, but Colin’s still not having it and in the end Jamie (remembering the crush Colin once had on him) offers sex as a way to make amends/prove how sincere he is. Colin can’t resist taking him up on the offer because even if he’s long over his crush the idea of Jamie kneeling in front of him, of Colin’s fist twisting in Jamie’s hair as he fucks his mouth, of Colin using Jamie however he sees fit and Jamie letting him… That does things for Colin, particularly when he’s in this vengeful state, yeah? Can end on a dark note, if that’s your jam, or end with some sweet comfort, aftercare and reconciliation.
Cracky post-canon poly shenanigans
Keeley is dating both Roy and Jamie, and while Jamie and Roy are not dating each other there’s this tension between them and yeah, maybe they wanna give this whole also sleeping with each other thing a go, except neither of them has ever done anything with another man before and so they’re a bit unsure about how to proceed and things keep Not Happening. (In this universe, Keeleys staunchly refuses to guide them, no matter how hot she’d find it, because she’s very much and rightly on the let Roy and Jamie sort Roy and Jamie out track.)
Jamie, glorious solution oriented himbo that he is, goes to Colin for some pointers on how to be gay, mate and after Colin stops staring inredulously at him he shrugs and gives him some general hints, the more gay love the better right, only Jamie soon comes back for a more hands-on tuition session because no, i tried, mate, but i just couldn’t figure it out, could you maybe show me instead? and Colin is a good friend (who once had a crush on Jamie), so yeah, that happens.
Keeps happening too, because everything Colin is teaching Jamie is working great and Roy and Jamie are very much getting it on and having a grand old time – but to no reader’s great surprise, there’s also some feelings starting to grow between Sassy Himbo No. 1 and Sassy Himbo No. 2. and in the end Jamie is not only dating Keeley and Roy but Colin too!
Colin only dates Jamie, though – the very idea of being involved with Keeley, a woman, or Roy, a Roy, is slightly nauseating and somewhat scary to him. There are no joint dates, no dinners for all four of them. Isaac is a little perplexed and initially concerned over the whole set-up but he sees how happy it makes his best friend so he rolls with it, even if he does end up having a talk with Roy about how he needs to make an effort to not look angry when Jamie and Colin go off together after training. I’m not angry, that’s just my face, Roy protests. Yeah, Isaac agrees, I know, bruv, but it’s freaking Colin out a little so maybe make an effort to not look like yourself, yeah? So the next time, Roy tries for a smile and Colin has trouble sleeping that night.
(For an extra helping of crack if Jamie/everyone is your thing: When the rest of the team learns of this, a few of the lads complain that it’s not fair that Keeley and Roy and Colin all get to have Jamie as their boyfriend when they don’t, but Jamie quickly assures them that he can be their boyfriend too! [Right… ? with sideway glances at Roy and Colin who just nod.] There’s plenty of Jamie to go around! Except he’s kind of busy with the partners he’s already got so maybe they need a scheduele and it’ll mostly be odd dates, but yeah, everyone who wants to can sign up for the Jamie Tartt Boyfriend Experience and in the end one fourth of the team is dating Jamie in some shape or form.)
That’s what I got for now. I hope at least one of them tickled your fancy, even if I strayed into OT3+ territory there for a bit...

hey just wondering why you think Roy reuniting w Keeley post s3 would’ve been bad for him? I sort of agree but also don’t want to bash keeley in anyway so I haven’t talked about it
Heya! Thanks for the ask and sorry you feel like you can't discuss something though I do understand why. I'll preface this by repeating something I've said before - canon did such a horrible job of holding Keeley accountable for anything and wrote her as if she could do no wrong and fandom seems to have picked that up and totally ran with it.
I do love that when reading RoyJamie fanfic, I never see Keeley bashing, as you call it, because vilifying female chatacters is such common practice in fandoms. But Ted Lasso fandom seems to swing to the other extreme where I've never even read a fic where Keeley apologises for something? And you can't even quite blame the fans, they just picked what canon put down - Keeley can do no wrong.
So, first of all, I think simply judging Keeley's actions is not bashing at all, it's just treating her the way every character BUT her is treated in both fandom and show. I think Keeley, like almost every other character, has made plenty of bad decisions and mistakes and, personally, how I react to them is a mix of how well I can relate to her and something else. Jack, for example, was a very professionally questionable decision but I completely sympathise with Keeley for it because 1) she faced consequences for her mistake even if it's never acknowledged that she made one and 2) I can relate to it! Hiring Shandy on the other hand was such a monumentally stupid decision that I could never relate to, so it just makes me annoyed with Keeley and the fact that the show treated it as her just being too sweet and wanting to give another horribly unqualified woman a chance rather than as a point towards her lack of professional skills.
Anyway!! The something else is important for my answer. As much as I love discussing my favourite shows and try to be objective, I very rarely am. Once I pick a favourite character, my opinion of almost every other character is informed by how they treat my favouriteTM. Is that fair? No. Do I do it without fail? Yes. Do I feel bad for it? Umm, no, that's my baby, nobody is allowed to be mean to them xD
And this is how we get to the Roy Kent of it all (finally! christ, this is gonna be long, sorry but also thanks!). Roy's my favourite, my baby, my grumpy, old, emotionally constipated and physically aching romantic. Roy can and has done wrong, I'd never claim otherwise. But I'd still claim he's the best chatacter and one of the best people on the show. And he's always gonna put himself last on his list of priorities.
Which is why I fully admit that I judge Keeley extra harshly when it comes to her and Roy. For brief context - I totally shipped Roy and Keeley and think they were good for each other, for the most part, in s1, I was ecstatic they were together in s2 and still shipped them like hell on my first watch (which was binged with s1!) and less and less on every consequent rewatch, part of me still wanted them to be together and then to get back together in s3 until I actually watched it all and completely changed my mind.
Shall I finally answer your question? I don't think Roy should reunite with Keeley because he gives too much of himself and she gives too little. I don't believe they are well balanced and I dont believe he'd feel loved with her again.
That WAS brief! But if you'd like more detail...
I think as sweet and good-hearted as she's portraited, Keeley is inherently a selfish person. Now, we circle back to bashing and judging. I'm doing neither. I'm myself a selfish person in many ways, that's not the worst thing to be in some regards. But I think Keeley is especially selfish in her romantic relationships and that simply does not suit someone like Roy. When paired with a selfish partner, Roy would just give and give and blame himself for not getting as much back.
I'm not saying there haven't been some great moments between Roy and Keeley, full of affection and care from Keeley, such as the scene at the end of s1. That's probably my favourite moment of theirs. But there have been some pretty shit ones too that for me outweigh the good and, more importantly, came once they settle into the relationship.
As early as their first kiss, Keeley got so annoyed and impatient, she immediately slept with Jamie. I know the show took it as an opportunity to have a kinda feminist moment but can you picture that turned around? Roy and Keeley kiss after tons of flirting and build up, and the day after Roy sleeps with a girl Keeley has a proper (however childish) feud with just cuz she told him she was busy that night. That would've never been fine. Again, I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm saying it's the response of a person who only cares about what they want and doesn't plan for the future.
Then, we have the infamous "Roy is a fridge magnet" episode which I still can't wrap my mind around so gimme a sec here. Your boyfriend is too into you, is perfect (by Keeley's own words) but not giving you the space you haven't asked for. So, instead of talking to him - don't even get me started on people writing Keeley as a character who's good as communicating - girl, where?? - you talk about it to his boss, a bunch of his coworkers and your ex who has an antagonistic relationship with him, and eventually as you're spending time together and he's trying to share one of his interests with you, you start screaming bloody murder at him about how clingy he is. Do I have that all correct? All of this would have been forgivable ofc, miscommunication happens, people aren't perfect, etc, etc, expect... forgiveness was asked by the wrong person. What on earth did Roy have to apologise for? This is the #1 example for me of that show trying so hard to make Keeley a perfect sunshine girl boss that they made 0 narrative or even logical sense. Honestly I hate that whole episode with a fiery passion.
Then we have the funeral shenanigans, which I won't even get into because I think Roy was 100% hilarious in that and Keeley was 100% overreacting (and yes, that's a heavy term to use towards a woman but here's the thing... she was). I guess this would be a good place to talk about their ILYs as well. Roy's ILYs always come with an acknowledgement of Keeley's feelings and his own fault for hurting them in anyway. Keeley's first ILY though has absolutely nothing to do with Roy. She's happy about her own success and he's celebrating her. That's it. That's the first time we see her say I love you. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Roy's aren't better but I think that just proves why he couldn't be happy with Keeley. Every time he's said ILY, it's been tinged with sadness and guilt and self-incrimination. Why would I want him to be with someone who constantly inspires those feelings in him?
This is now definitely too long so I'll try to wrap up with s3 very quickly and mainly the fact that the episode Keeley is drinking alone in the pub is one of the only ones where Keeley faces consequence for her actions (in this case, sleeping with her boss - again, not something I blame or begrudge her for but also something she should've probably considered can get her funding pulled when it ends, see: never thinking about the future (and why I don't see Keeley being successful without people like Barbara or Rebecca but thats a different topic)). Keeley responds to being made to face the music by using Roy to make herself feel better. I'm sorry but there's no other interpretation of their hook up for me. He's just read her a very heartfelt apology, ending with another guilt ridden ILY and then he was leaving. Except she chased him down, not to say it back ofc, but to use him for sex.
Thanks, I hate it.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to the fact that I think Roy was right to break up with Keeley. Not because she's not a great catch and not because there was anything wrong with her being successful or needing time for herself but because they're not right for each other. Roy is too selfless and ready to blame himself for everything and Keeley is too focused on herself and ready to take advantage of that.
Roy is the kind of romantic that would tell his cabbie to date his wife and compose a playlist for the girlfriend who treated him horribly yesterday. He's the kind of guy that's had to bottle up all his emotions forever and never talks about himself with people and has had his fucking watch stolen by his fucking hook ups. He deserves someone *cough*Jamie*cough* who is absolutely obsessed with him! Who will appreciate the things he does for them and the time he spends with them rather than take them for granted at best and be annoyed at worst. Who will make him feel like he's been struck by lightning! He deserve someone who cares about his feeling and frankly, in season 3 at least, I don't think that's Keeley or should be again.

3x10, part 2, Roy x Jamie edition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i very much doubt that, Jamie. Colin? Sam? but then again, he's besties with half of the team, so maybe?
the faces he makes.
the bickering with Roy. the thing, being their relationship and love for each other, they share.
Tumblr media
"it's dumb (i don't know yet how to feel confident with the people i care about very much). i brought it for you anyway. it made me think of you."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE TONGUE. thank you for your service, Phil. i missed that gesture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm gonna have a sore throat after all the screaming. it's one of the must beautiful ways to say "I love you" I've seen. that soft music playing. the look that Roy gives him. Jamie mumbling, suddenly becoming shy and awkward aka a boy that rarely receives genuine affection, a boy raised in an abusive poor household, learning to show gestures of genuine affection and and trying to live through it without embarrassment.
like, he KNOWS how much Roy's career meant and probably still means for him. it means a lot for Jamie, too, because he's there next to Roy exactly bc he had Roy's poster above his bed in the first place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i have so many feelings about this and Jamie. so many. i also keep thinking about Phil's, "there's gonna be a moment after which people might think that Roy and Jamie have a wild affair. i wouldn't exclude that but yeah." is this it? "you talk about him all the time" or is there going to be something wilder? like when Roy and Keeley talk and Jamie walks into the room?
bc even Roy's sister knows how much this gesture means for Roy and how much it shows Jamie's feelings for Roy (not to mention the fucking bantering with Roy Kunt, those repressed idiots). the look Jamie gives Roy. *deep sigh* yeah, i'm staying here. i'm going down with this ship. you can pry them away from me from my cold dead hands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
not Roy actually saying how he feels to Jamie, but Jamie being so close to Roy's family and inside his house and then later Roy and Keeley are inside Jamie's childhood bedroom. you guys?? the dots are connecting? the math is mathing???
the boy is so happy and so genuine, I can't get over it. the essence of being genuine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
those faces, lol.
Tumblr media
are you telling me that in the year 2023 this billionaire still carries ANY kind of cash? for real?
Tumblr media
i'm honestly still amazed by how good Jamie is with kids. Henry, Phoebe. maybe it's his way of pushing back after the way his dad treated him but also, to my current understanding, how his mom also tried to be good to him. with me absolutely hating kids irl? characters that still recognize the pattern and how kids needs encouragement and kindness and understanding in order to bloom? there's no denying Jamie's personality. i love his soul. the boy has my heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jamie Tartt being besties with Roy Kent's sister and niece: unlocked. i dislike that I don't know/remember Roy sister's name.
Tumblr media
Jamie can perform whatever useless comment about "your sister is fit" bc this? the boy is in love. but if i'm being honest, I hate that they're always trying to nudge us in the direction of hetero Jamie so we wouldn't ship Roy and Jamie. thanks, i'm holding onto them so hard, they're gonna have bruises if you'll try to pry them away from my hands. they are IN LOVE. period.
Tumblr media
even Jamie snickering after that comment gives off s1 vibes where Jamie did everything he could to get Roy's attention. it sounds more like a joke just to get one more comment and interaction from Roy. sometimes Jamie does things not bc he believes in them but because attention, and it usually is about Roy's attention.

First time Jamie realizes he’s a girl soemtimes, go
Oh, I be cycling through ideas on this constantly, most of them almost entirely incoherent lmao. I'll slap together a Top Current 3 for ya right quick.
1. As A Child
I mean like a wee bairn. Like Phoebe's age. This is also pre- James "coming around" so it fully starts out as one of those feel good fluff pieces of yeah I always knew my parents did everything right I transitioned in kindergarten and all the neighbors applauded. You know. In this version, Jamie/Georgie picked the gender neutral nickname on purpose.
This one continues to not be an angst fest even when James does start coming around. Homophobia and transphobia go hand in hand with misogyny, so I'm certain James is those too. However he's also arrogant and careless, and if you add on substance abuse probably not very present.
So, for this one I'm saying James just... never knows lmfao. Jamie just fully consciously is like That's None of His Business and it's almost laughably easy to keep it from him, with very little distress on Jamie's part. Did you ever see ND Stevenson describe that being closeted was (for a while) like having a fun secret and every time someone used his assigned pronouns he felt like he was getting away with something? Like that.
Later, it doesn't so much feel like that for Jamie anymore just because as an adult and then especially as a famous adult he has to keep it on the down low much more extensively, somewhat in order to continue keeping it from James and somewhat to avoid the whole Circus due to the fame part (and also probably he has some vague worries about if he'd still be allowed to play in a men's sports league). It starts to feel a lot more like a closet that way.
But! That doesn't last very long either because James gets seen off after Wembley because fuck him and a yearlong streak of no contact is something to celebrate 🩷 + things went pretty great for Colin + fuck the haters + his environment is truly so full of love and support now it's back to the same level it was in the Before James times so it's easy all over again. He always knew and he transitioned in kindergarten and then he transitioned again at 25 and the football club applauded, etc.
2. Dating Keeley (the First Time)
The way Jamie in canon describes his relationship with Keeley, she was the first domino for him and Ted came second. She saw an even greater Jamie inside an already great Jamie, she made him cultured, she took him to plays and shit, and she taught him to stop getting in his own way as much.
And as per my interpretation, she also taught him at statistically significant amount about intimacy and sex. So... why not also gender?
His egg cracks in a totally mundane moment of non-sexual intimacy with Keeley at Keeley's house, maybe snuggled up on her couch with her furry pillows, maybe watching TV or maybe painting each other's nails or maybe she's reading to him or he's trying to make her laugh.
I think in this version he doesn't really officially Come Out to anybody. He just... starts being a girl sometimes. He's comfortable with his name and he's as comfortable with 'he' as he is with 'she' and that doesn't really change circumstantially. So he just sort of starts gradually incorporating whatever gender affirming stuff he likes into his daily life (both as a man and as a woman and as someone who has no strong feelings on the gender aspect but loves the performance, as relevant). It's literally just. A complete non-issue, once Jamie himself decides he's chill about it, which again happens pretty quickly after James shuffles off this narrative coil because Jamie is resilient and brave and proud and sucks up supportiveness like a sponge.
Roy, Keeley, and Georgie (and by extension Phoebe, Rebecca, and Simon) eventually kind of pick up on it just from being around Jamie so much and seeing him interact with femininity enough that they can't help but notice that it Fits him. Maybe one of them calls him a girl or uses 'she' for him as a joke (i.e. like "girls, you're both pretty" from Roy when Jamie and Keeley are bickering or something like that) and see the way it makes him glow. But he hasn't asked for anything in particular, and he doesn't seem like he's hiding anything, you know he doesn't seem to have that ache like Colin talked about, so... unless he tells them otherwise they just mix in the new pronouns and carry on.
3. When Everyone Points Their Gaydars at Him (LMAO)
This is literally just. alsfjkasfkks. "Someone else in this room is probably gay," and they all look at him, and just instantly POP oh shit there's a reason for that huh? Damn. Anyway, we don't have time for that halftime's almost over. Also that's one of those things where if you realize it that suddenly, either you blurt it out without ever thinking the words you say or else you don't and still don't think any words. His whole entire self is like okay. More on that later.
In this version, he does Come Out. He's not really nervous about it because, again, This Kind Of Thing already went great for Colin + support sponge. And also because it's funny, innit. I love in-jokes, I'm about to make one.
No one is surprised, in this version. They all have basically the same experience as Jamie had when his egg cracked. Oh yeah, that's what that was. Oh, also! The team together like mad-libs together a Frankensteinish approximation of Ted's "we don't not care" speech that no one who wasn't there would be able to comprehend a lick of (RIP Isaac and Roy).
Once again I do not know how to end the post. Thank you for the ask.

Yet another theory: Roy/Keeley break-up
Near the end of S2 there were theories on Reddit that Keeley might be pregnant. They died down but I think that it might have been the case. So my theory is, I think a miscarriage or abortion may have caused Roy & Keeley’s break up. Again, it's long... so bear with me. And as always, this is just a theory because I felt there was more to the break-up and the show purposefully wants to keep us in the dark only for a major reveal later.
Tumblr media
Keeley wasn’t shown drinking past S2E7 – yes, she had drinks in her hand & spoke of them, but she never actually drank – a kind of unwritten rule in tv with a pregnant woman. Nor did she smoke. (S1E10, 11, 12)
S1E10 Keeley’s behaviour at the funeral was erratic and a bit disrespectful of the environment but I chalked it up with her being emotional about death but what if her hormones were out of whack? She didn't know she was pregnant yet or she’d just realized?
She talked about wanting people to be nourished by the fruit from her tree – that’s a very allegorical parallel to pregnancy.
If Roy didn't know about the pregnancy until after the fact (miscarriage or abortion), the line in the funeral episode "I didn't know about the fucking child" was foreshadowing.
She looked directly at Roy when the reverend spoke about Rebecca’s father being a devoted husband and father.
She also did not do her PR duty with Rebecca. She needed to properly warn her of the repercussions of Rebecca’s relationship with Sam. I mean think of how aware Keeley was about that with those photos of her and Ted in S1 when she was dating Jamie. But if she had a pregnancy on her mind? Was she distracted?
In S1E12, having this huge opportunity to start her own company and being given the news via email? Is that realistic? Did she question any of this? Due diligence? Again, if she wasn’t thinking straight, if she had lots on her mind, it would all seem like too much at one time.
When Roy wanted to open the champagne in S2E12, she said, "I thought we wanted to save this for something really, really special?" What's more special than opening your own company? She then distracted him by proposing sex... avoiding having to drink but not having to say anything about why.
She also was at a crossroads. Her dreams were coming true as her career was soaring. She had the love of her life supporting her - but a baby? That wasn’t in the cards.
And then the trip to Marbella, she couldn’t go away. Fair enough… but encouraging Roy to go alone when he’d just arranged it all for them both? (I do not approve of his sudden surprise trip but that’s separate issue.) Having him away for six weeks would give her time to decide whether to keep the baby or not. She is scared and has never been in a long-term relationship before. Maybe has even dealt with pregnancy scares and been disappointed by partners?
So we get to S3 and they are broken up. She wanted a break, Roy wants a break-up. We know Roy has self-worth issues. He feels he weighs Keeley down. I believe he feels he’ll impact her ability to succeed – he’s got a lot of baggage and Keeley has been more than supportive. It’s unfair for her to have that burden. So that's what we see as his reason.
Fine… but Keeley – why won’t she work at it? Yes, she’s preoccupied but it’s obvious “being busy” is not the reason for the break-up. That’s an excuse. It seems obvious that they are covering with Phoebe and fine... but the carefulness with how they word things sticks out to me.
It’s also obvious Roy wants it to be known that HE is the reason for the break-up but he's still kind to Keeley. It's as if he’s protecting her.
So, what if she miscarried or chose to have an abortion?
We see Keeley as serious and sad at the beginning of S3, and in Episode 2, when Roy gives back her things in a bag at the club, her hair is ragged and she looks unhappy, putting on a brave face.
We then get a scene pointing out that her period is early due to stress. That surprised me. I would have considered Keeley to be a woman on the pill, or even more likely, an IUD. It's not impossible to have an early or late period on the pill but to show that scene? We now know she could get pregnant.
Also for symbolism? The use of the lamb with Keeley's storyline? Lambs represent gentleness, innocence, and purity and babies are often called little lambs. Also, the little lamb pooped over her work, twice, as if to say the lamb (the baby) impacted the quality of her work.
When Roy received all those sympathy well-wishes - what did it look like? Balloons and teddy bears and flowers? Mostly white? It looked like what people give new parents. No wonder Roy was angry. (Poor Trent.)
Tumblr media
Her not knowing what CFO means? Not knowing who her VC “boss” was? The person who funded her? Her bad decisions? Even her decision to enter a relationship with Jack? All of this is Keeley regressing. She is new to all this but really not doing herself any favours. She is heartbroken, perhaps suffering from trauma from everything that's happened.
What she does do, is to seek comfort in a woman, rather than a man - and yes, while that provides LGBTQ+ representation, it also protects Keeley from getting pregnant again.
And Roy? What if he didn’t know until after the fact? And if that was the case, I think he would respect her agency. Her body, her choice, but it would indicate to him that she didn’t trust him to talk about it. It would confirm all the self-hatred in his head, the idea that he wasn’t enough, that no one could love him. And above that, if she did miscarry, he would feel immense guilt for causing her pain and sadness, especially as she was at an exciting time in her life. He would blame himself because Roy blames himself for everything.
Remember in S2E8,he told Phoebe he was afraid of infecting her with the worst parts of him? That is not a man who thinks he would be a good father even though S2 showed the audience why Roy would be a good father. Fatherhood is a major theme in the story. I thought it was foreshadowing at the time, perhaps it was.
Also, what if post-miscarriage/abortion Keeley had regrets? What if she talks about wanting to be a mother? This would also encourage Roy to bow out, because if she does eventually want a child, she should be with someone who is worthy of being a father. He likely might not word it that way - he might just be firm in the idea that he doesn't want to be a father.
Keeley would be devastated but would also respect Roy’s decision. She doesn’t have the energy to fight. She might think she's the one who has hurt him and he thinks he’s doing the right thing even if it’s hurting her.
I actually think Rebecca would know what happened and even would respect Roy for walking away if he doesn't want to be a father, because Rupert didn’t give her that choice. Which then would have led her to think of trying to be a mother again. And I noticed Rebecca didn't seem to be angry with Roy for breaking off with Keeley and hurting her, just frustrated. She understood and then she got after him to get a move on.
Now here we are. Roy and Keeley are both a mess. They are both regressing to old versions of themselves. Keeley is back to living life superficially and Roy is back to living life full of anger and hostility.
In S1, Keeley mentioned she had abandonment issues. Until Roy most of her relationships have been superficial, never getting close enough to be truly hurt. In S2, it sounded like she didn't have a good relationship with her mum. We never got to see this but perhaps she feared Roy would reject her, which he did.
And then of course Ep 9, ROY'S SPEECH ABOUT A FOOTBALLER'S WIFE MISCARRYING, Roy said, "He didn't tell anyone. He kept it all inside", Keeley gave an almost imperceptible nod and was near tears.
In S2E9, the man many called "Roy on 'Roids" & his sexy partner Mary were expecting a baby. A nod to Roy & Keeley? Guess who is at Beard's wedding with a baby on his chest?
When they were finally about to talk about their relationship, it was in Jamie's childhood bedroom... a child's bedroom. Sadly Jamie interrupted.
In S2, Headspace, Roy reads the DaVinci Code & quotes the point where the "old geezer" inflicts wounds on himself for his perceived guilt which is exactly what Roy has done all season because he felt he caused Keeley pain.
I tend to think it was a miscarriage and even the possibility that she talked to Roy about the pregnancy/the options prior to losing the baby, but that's all just guess work at this point.
While I could accept this as a reason, I still think they’ve missed the mark on storytelling by keeping it a mystery. It’s not fair to the viewers who have been on this journey and waited for 500+ days between seasons only to be left with no answers. It's been a really sad season if you love the Roy & Keeley love story.

re: “the jamie factor” to the roykeeley resolution in the finale, they really do have to do something about it because they heavily implied that keeley still had feelings for him multiple times at the beginning of the season and that was… never resolved? unless they intended the resolution to just be that she wanted to be friends with him?? but (and maybe this is just my shipping goggles) I don’t feel like that really explains how she was talking about him to shandy and jack
Exactly.
This is one of the few things that will actually hack me off if it's done incorrectly in the finale (read: Roy/Keeley getting back together and Jamie is neither mentioned nor shown. Or, 1000x worse, if they do show him finding out/one of them telling him afterwards and he's just like "Oh I'm so happy for you guys! my two best friends who I absolutely don't also have feelings for! together at last! :)" because WHAT). I'm pretty confident they won't do that because of how little sense it makes but like. It's still an illogical fear of mine.
And look, I'm all for an ambiguous ending in which ot3 isn't defined. I don't really need any further confirmation beyond what we got last week. But the fact that the narrative did start (and subsequently interrupt) an "I don't want to just be friends" conversation between Roy & Keeley makes it an almost certainty that they're going to finish said conversation. In which case, I don't see how Roy and Keeley could make any choice about their relationship without thinking about/including Jamie. The only route to ambiguity I can see is Keeley turning Roy down (maybe after some more glances in Jamie's general direction to suggest to viewers with eyes that he's part of the reason) and then the three of them shown briefly as friends again.
As you say, there's been several moments in the season where it's been made pretty clear Keeley is thinking about Jamie in that way again. And even in the moment where Roy/Keeley are talking and Jamie interrupts them, Keeley 1) does not look like she's about to give a resounding yes to Roy and 2) drops her hand SO fast the moment Jamie walks through the door. How else are we supposed to read this, like ?? We know Roy still loves Keeley, there's been nothing to indicate Jamie isn't still in love with Keeley (as he told her last season) and everything Roy/Jamie this season has not been subtle development... the dots are connecting in a way that the writers absolutely have to not only be aware of but also intentional about at this point.
Not to mention that last week the entire Jamie Roy Keeley plot was however many minutes of "there is no heterosexual or monogamous explanation for this" so uhhh. yeah. I can only conclude that ot3 is going to be addressed.

if jamie tartt is like david beckham .... [white man, english, huge following, big name] which mls team will he join and where will he base his eventual ownership team and which talented star will be buy to headline the whole thing
LKSDFJ;LSKDFJDS
Jack Grealish you have been dethroned by the Becks and his unbeatable smoove aura...he stole your Ted Lassona are you just gonna sit there and take it...
Tumblr media
I am taking a flying stab at this and begging any actual EPL fans plus anyone who's followed MLS for more than a year to forgive me. I also need SOMEONE ELSE to chart Jamie's likely career trajectory WITHIN the EPL...whether Roy actually manages to win the league with Richmond, how they cope with Champions League drama, etc etc. But ALL THAT ASIDE, here we go - Jamie Tartt's grand soft-retirement in the MLS!
Tumblr media
Ted absolutely BEGS Jamie to choose Sporting KC. Its like...three hours and change from Wichita to Kansas City, but that is NOTHING to the Big Peppy Energy of a single midwestern dad who was unfortunately forced away from his club of adopted sons by the bad choices of certain writers' rooms. Ted sends texts. He sends emails. He sends hand-written letters. He starts a very enthusiastic one-man campaign on twitter (#tarttkc4lyfe!) and even gets the KC mascot, Blue the Dog, to shout out Earl Greyhound on Instagram in a bid to get Jamie to come. In a truly below-the-belt move, Ted takes a picture of Henry in a Sporting KC #10 jersey that has "Tartt" on the back and sends it to Jamie. Henry is wearing his Very Saddest Face. Roy and Beard both separately text Ted to call out dirty tactics, but Ted cannot be shamed on this front. The stakes are too high.
Of course, Jamie does NOT go to Sporting KC, even for Ted (maybe. He thinks about it. A little. A lot). When Euro stars soft-retire in the US, they make their choices based on which large, attractive global city they want to live in. I know, I know - financially speaking, all cities with ownership groups big enough to have an MLS franchise are "global cities," not just the coastal powerhouses. However, it is extremely funny to me personally to assume that the Grealish-Tartt link is strong and that Jamie doesn't recognize an unlabelled map of England, much less the US. If a city hasn't been regularly on the news or doesn't have a clock featuring its local time behind the hotel reception desk, Jamie probably doesn't know much about it. Realistically, Jamie is likely going to choose from among LA, New York, Miami, and maybe Chicago. Mayyyyybe Orlando, depending on how long Bumbercatch has to convince him that Disney is actually horribly evil and Jamie should not be swayed by the glittering lights of the Magic Kingdom or the steady stream of talented U22 Brazilian players feeding to Orlando City SC.
Assuming Messi is still in MLS at this point in the Ted Lasso universe, Miami IS GOING to be Jamie's first choice. I know that Jamie was futzing around with the false 9 role and sitting in the enganche pocket behind Dani and Colin in 3x07, but IN MY HEART Jamie is a true no.9 and what striker doesn't love goals on a plate! MIAMI HAS THE GREATEST PLAYMAKER IN THE WORLD currently playing for them, and all the stupid Zava problems would melt away once Jamie starts scoring hattricks off of three or four of those perfect eye of the needle assists per game. Keeley gets a bunch of sexy beachwear, Jamie gets sunburnt to hell on the sand somewhere, Roy blissfully fistfights someone in a Publix where no one knows who he is, the DREAM LIVES ON.
HOWEVER, Miami also doesn't have any more Designated Player slots, and Jamie (1) isn't an old Barcelona buddy who will come for peanuts GAM money and (2) is a big enough name in his own right that he can demand a star DP slot at another club. Miami is probably off the table. The ACTUAL most realistic possibilities are LA and New York, with NY being slightly in the lead just based on vibes. Assuming AGAIN that the Grealish-Tartt link is strong, Jamie might end up at NYCFC. They are low to mid-table, sporting-wise, but they are owned by City Group and are considered Manchester City's sister club in New York. Lampard, Pirlo, and Villa were their first DPs in their debut season in 2015. If Jamie forgets that relegation isn't a thing in MLS and wants to be in a club that semi-regularly makes the playoffs, the NY Red Bulls are nearby...ish. Hey, if New Jersey is good enough for the WORLD CUP it's good enough for Baby Tartt!
If Jamie goes full Beckham and ends up in LA, he probably goes to the Galaxy. LAFC is the stronger team and prides itself on a loud, noisy supporters' culture - Gareth Bale spent a year there before the WC in 2022 - but I just cannot resist the Beckham vibes. And honestly, Jamie Tartt getting to live the Zava storyline from the other side and coming to the second-worst Western conference team of 2023 to lift them out of their slump is probably its own comedy spinoff. Also, imagining Jamie playing the Rose Bowl during El Trafico on the Fourth of July in front of a bunch of random actors is hilarious.
AND. FINALLY. If Jamie Tartt gets the Beckham/Messi retirement package and gets to purchase ownership stakes in a new MLS franchise upon retirement???
Ted starts begging for Jamie to come to Wichita again, but this time as a TEAM OWNER. He offers to coach for free. He offers to PAY to coach. He offers to BUY SHARES HIMSELF with all that gotdam EPL money that Rebecca was paying him during the show. However, sadly, Kansas City beat Wichita to the punch. I...have got NO CLUE where Jamie opens his MLS team tbh, bc as of right now MLS's business model is to muscle in on cities with their own existing USL football culture, buy out the franchise, and turn all of the club's history into soulless corporate marketing dreck. San Diego, I am so, so sorry.
Actually you know what, in THIS UNIVERSE, Jamie somehow finds a way to turn his retirement benefits into an investment into San Diego Loyal and helping them bid to join MLS. This prevents that extremely disappointing San Diego FC badge from ever becoming a reality.
I also have no idea what big-name star Jamie would invite to be his first DP - most of the Greyhounds were either Jamie's age or older, which means that as Jamie is retiring they are also retiring. IT would have to be like...a younger player that Jamie had some kind of relationship with when he was still in the EPL - NAME YOUR FAVORITE YOUNGSTER HERE!!!! After they have had a brilliant European career and are ready to soft-retire, of course!
(baby tartt if you could help MY hometown club in [redacted] to get its shit together and put in an MLS bid before Messi leaves...)

Possibly my favourite episode of the season. But could that be because it feels like they just remembered this show is really about Rebecca Welton and is just named after her boyfriend?? Not at all!!
Let’s go!!
Episode 10 - International Break
Tumblr media
Woah! What a way for reveal Nate left West Ham! 🫢
Shut up, George!! You’re just bitter you were shut at your job and it’s showing now
Ted! We want to spend every weekend with you! Please never leave
Is this really how they find out who got chosen?? Seems like something they’d personally get told first. I think the boys knew, but the coaches didn’t!! Hmm
‘Wait, hold on. Bumbercatch, you’re Swiss?’ ‘Yeah. Look at me’ this boy really is a man of mystery!! 😂
Poor Sam 🙁
But God love Jamie though! He’s come so far!! 🥰🥰
‘I am not your bro. We are now enemies, and soon, you will be my bitch’ woah, Mexico Dani is a whole other breed of dog, huh!! I’ll stick with Richmond puppy Dani, thanks 😂
YYEEEAAAHHHH!!
We love a convo that sounds like it’s about periods but is actually about wine 🫡
MADELINE KAHN REFERENCE!!! 😍😍 this alone could make this episode my favourite!!
Totally tracks though that Ted doesn’t like gossip
As much as I always want scenes of Ted & Rebecca alone, that reveal to Trent was brilliant. And of course he’s good at girl talk 😂
Please, they way Rebecca reacts to Ted is such married behaviour. AND TRENT IS SEEING IT ALL FIRST HAND!! I’m so excited
Oh, Ted. You’re cute. You knew exactly what they meant. You just wanted to make your wife smile. It’s okay, we get it 🥰
AND AGAIN WITH THE DEVIL BIT. Boy…
I’ll continue to say it; Nate & Jade are cute!
Fully expected her to flip them all off, not gonna lie
Omg I totally saw this coming, and yet it’s still heartbreaking 🥺
Keeley’s not stupid. She knows it’s not the board, Barbra
JUNO TEMPLE!!! 😢😢😢 (first time I got teary this episode)
Scary Mexico Dani 🤘🏼 You just know Cristo had a blast with this episode!! (Peep the guy in the back with the huge smile😂)
Slutty Ted in red with his arms out 🥵
‘It’s hard to see the ball when your eyes are full if tears’ fucking savage 😂
The Wunder Turd. Nice
Fuck Jane though
I think Trent’s next book should just be about Beard. That is an interesting man, for sure! Like, why do you need so many axes, my guy?!
Well that was awkward… but also a little sweet 🫣
‘The creepy old man that lives in the sewers’ Renee, you’ll always be famous to us
Okay, I could go on and on about this, but I think this is a great, subtle way to begin showing Rupert falling apart.
‘When they used to play by candlelight’ YES, REBECCA! FUCK THAT OLD MAN UP!! 😂
‘Some people just are t ready when they get their shot’ That is not at all what happened, Rupert
Oop she knows that’s bullshit, too
HAPPY UNCLE DAY, ROY!! 🎉🎉
Okay, I love Roy’s sister. And also the subtle call back to her actually being the doctor that treated Sharon last season 👍🏼 Nice
Of course that’s the order of Phoebe’s favourite holidays. Uncle Roy is number 1! (&2😉)
Uh oh, secrets out boys! 😂😂
How fucking cute though that Jamie gets a call (probably from Phoebe herself) inviting him to this party and he actually turns up with a really thoughtful gift 🥹 THE GROWTH IN THIS BOY IS GORGEOUS!!
Omg Eloide’s face journey in this scene is perfection. Phoebe has been grossly underused this show!
Also the cutest fucking present. She’s knows your inside is so bright and colourful, Roy! You shouldn’t hide it!
‘Your sister is fit’ ‘I will cut your eyes out’ 😂 okay, but like… I would 100% be behind these two being brother-in-laws, just saying 😂
SAM RICHARDSON!!! 😍 always a blast when he shows up!
And you just know from Toheeb himself that these scenes are a struggle to get through once Sam gets on a roll
But poor Sam, though. Edwin is such a dick
Poor Nate, too. He’s so lost right now 🥺
Yeah, Lloyd, shut up (which is what she meant to say)
Seeing her signs blocked off 🥺🥺 heartbreaking
Since when does her lady ship enter a room like that?? 😂 but I’m glad it means we get to see more physical comedy from Jeremy 👍🏼 Always a bonus!
So her order is Keeley, Ted, Sassy, Leslie and never her mother 😂 I love that actually
‘I hate to break it to you, Rebecca, but those children are dead’ made me laugh just as much as it did the first time! 😂
We love a protective Papa Higgins in this house 🥰 but boy seems traumatised by that story 😂
Oh don’t suck your tie, Leslie 🤦🏻‍♀️
So that photo has shown up on both Keeley & Ted’s phone, but whose did she take it on?? 🤔
That is a bullshit text, Jack. Absolutely no excuse. I knew I was right to not trust you from the start! 😡
‘Everything? Fuck no’ another great call back
Also hell yeah to a Keeley & Mae scene!! (Do have some thoughts about what I’ve seen some people say about this scene, though…)
Whether she’s drunk or making a joke, Keeley actually going with Mae’s full name being Maybe is genius!😂
I really need a Mae in my life. I feel like I could actually get my life in order after a conversation with this woman
Everyone not knowing what to do or how to react to him wearing this t-shirt is brilliant
(Also Red Right Hand playing over this is maybe the last little push I need to finally start Peaky Blinders once this show is done)
Beard trying to get Ted’s attention- amazing. But what was he doing on his phone that he was so focused on??
‘Okay, now I’m worried. Are you alive? Text ‘no’ if dead’ living for silly, real Rebecca! 🥰
The boys all getting together to watch all the games is beautiful 🥹 they’re all so supportive!!
Also genius work casting Colin & Ryan as the commentators for this match 👌🏼
Savage Dani!!
What are you decorating, Rebecca, that you have a ‘decorating made easy’ pdf on your laptop?? 🤔
📢 THE ARMY MAN IS BACK!! 📢
Yo, Rupert is really struggling atm, huh!
Yes I gasped when he threw it on the floor, but had no doubt he’d bake back for it!
Rebecca is a gif sender. Of course she is
Rebecca has anxiety confirmed?? 🤔
Okay this scene with little Rebecca is absolutely gorgeous!! And did make me tear up a little, not gonna lie.
(As I’ve also said, I choose to believe Paul taught her to do that when she was little)
That is going to become his new favourite t-shirt, I can see it already. Something will eventually happen to it and he’s going to be devastated!!
Again, who the fuck is Leann?! Your name is Ruth, woman! 😂 it’s times like this that fanfic really screws with you 😂
‘I teach kids. I don’t mind cleaning up a mess’ tell him like it is, RuthLeann 😂
Aannndd it’s all falling into place finally. Took your time, Roy!!
‘I like clothes that tell the truth’ BARBARA!! You juicy minx 😂 I love you, please never leave!!
I’ve absolutely loved watching these two together 🥹
She’s so awkward, maybe a little bit autistic 🤷🏻‍♀️ makes sense!
Rupert’s being nice. Makes me feel weird…
‘How could I resist the chance of having a bunch of old men speak directly to my chest?’ Don’t try so hard, man. She’s not that funny!!
His assistant is called Bread. A play on Beard perhaps?? 🤔
Okay, what has he said about Rebecca to get a reaction from her like that??
Also this is deliciously awkward. I hope it comes out that Nathan told everyone he was sleeping with his assistant, as well as others, and that’s why he left. And that Bex left him too. You must suffer
Your ex-wife is also not stupid. She knows exactly what happened with your old assistant.
He introduced her as an owner, not his ex. HE’S TRYING SO HARD!!
I’ve had this exact exchange with many an older gentleman in my time. This is too real 🤢
This man and his obsession with Chicago-style hot dogs knows no bounds! 😂
Okay, these baby pictures are cute
Sam pulling the most out of a tiny little thing is wonderful 😂 wonder how long that actually went on for??
‘An untried dream’. Eww.
So Keeley does know how to text back! 🫢
I love how they bring things in from the actors themselves, assuming this really is Nick playing
‘Is this a fucking joke?’ FUCK THEM UP, GIRLIE!!
And Sam’s face 😂
They really just said let’s surround Hannah with kids this episode, huh 😂
Love her talking to a bunch of old men like they’re children, too
Jamie wearing 24 for Sam 🥹🥹🥹 yes, I have to pause until the tears go away
Roy, your handwriting is atrocious
How dare this show make me have a feeling towards Rupert 😡
I agree with you, Edwin, what a lovely speech indeed. Rebecca, you have come so far from the bitter ex-wife who just wanted to destroy something your ex-husband loved. You truly care and love the sport and your boys now and it’s delicious to witness 🥰🥰🥰
Omg that reveal with amazing!! (Although I will say, on my first watch I though initially the food on Tony’s head was because he’d been punched 🫣😂)
Those giggles were purely Hannah & Tony
Nick is absolutely killing in this season. This scene is a great showcase of exactly how these types of families are. It’s beautiful to witness
Also shoutout to the actor playing his dad. He’s done an amazing job too!!
I’m feeling so many emotions watching this scene. Tony is showcasing beautifully exactly how charming Rupert can be. Reminiscing about old times, getting food out of her hair. Doing his ‘Rupert act’ that likely always works for him. But not with her. Not anymore. She’s the strong one now and he’s lost 🥹 Good for you, Rebecca!
She has to look now, Roy, because nobody can read your handwriting 😂
Brett & Juno kill me. His letter is just beautiful and made me tear up every time I’ve listened to it 🥹 AND HE TOLD HER HE STILL LOVES HER!! 🥰
‘Sincerely yours, Roy Kent. XOXO’ 😂😂 never change, please
They really are beautiful and I can’t wait to see them coming back together!
Keeley opening that door and screaming at Rebecca was *chefs kiss* 😂 Juno Temple, comedy queen!
And I want what they have!! I love how she can share her good news, ask for a hug, then tell her she’s cross with her friend. And her friend completely understands. It’s wonderful
Again, being accountable for you actions. Rebecca doesn’t even have to say anything to her
I’ve seen people against Rebecca funding KJPR, but I think it makes perfect sense. Rebecca has the money and she wants to do something within her means to help her friend reach her full potential. Why wouldn’t she help?!
Keely’s disgust is all of us 😂
Baby girl is finally at the top of her mountain! Now just needs her lightening 😉
I love that the salute has become Rebecca & Roy’s thing 🥰
Wilk is shocked! Bit what a beautiful gesture!
Barbara left Jack and wants to stay with Keeley, as she should! I’ve said from the beginning she knew what Jack was like, but I think the difference is she actually likes Keeley…
I THINK THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP 🩷🎉🥰
Puppy Dani is back!!
Roy wears a colour other than black (or charcoal heather grey) and Beard learns he can share bits of himself with people. Yes, we’re coming to an end, guys…
She didn’t get rid of the painting!!
Also doesn’t need saying, but how fucking gorgeous is Hannah in this scene! That dress & colour on her are delightful. She’s so fucking soft now!!
She didn’t open the biscuits right away! 👀 and she shuffled closer to Ted 👀 is this it, girls? Is it happening?? I’m not ready! What do I do?!! 🫠
The little smile after she says so no longer cares about beating Rupert 🫣 He’s so proud of her!!
The heart eyes 😍 Ted, she is still your boss! She’s not your wife yet!!
OMFG!! 😂😂 how many times do you think she had to do that before she could do it without laughing?? 😂
‘As long as none of that tree piss gets in my mouth, I’m actually okay with it’ Okay, Ted. We get it!!
Well that episode was absolutely beautiful! On so many fronts!!
I do have more thoughts about a few points which I may elaborate on at some point, but I do feel like it’s showing we’re on the home stretch now 😢
Looks like we’re getting Mumma Lasso next episode, too!! 🫣 Kinda vibrating with excitement, but at the same time telling myself not to expect too much! But she’s in Richmond so it’s only right to assume there’d be a scene between her & Rebecca, right??
Only 2 more left babes!! 🫡

Finished my Series 3 rewatch in time for tonight's ep. Here are my rewarch thoughts that noone asked for.
Series 1 rewatch | Series 2 rewatch
Ted's description of rugby, mighty interesting. Never beating those bi allegations, my friend.
Jan Maas is Certified Statistics Guy (like in La Locker Room Aux Folles)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh interesting! Roy's choice of 4-4-2 explained is completely opposite to total football.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am almost certain you cannot drive your car over that bridge towards the London Stadium, Nate.
I still can't get over Dani's face when he finds out someone writes Paddington's tweets for him.
Tumblr media
"Ain't much more scary out there than a creepy clown, right?" Cut to Rupert. 👏
Colin doing down a manhole? Asdfghjkl
Tumblr media
We know what Field of Dreams is the UK, man. 🤦🏼‍♀️
Ms Kakes looks like she is dressed as Princess Leia...?? Does this mean she will be part of Rupert's downfall??
Tumblr media
OK, but what if the whole thing of Trent writing a book isn't news to Ted and he is just winding Trent up by pretending to think about it. Like they are actually friends now or Trent already texted him about asking Rebecca and this thing is an act.
Can we get an episode of Single Guys Club à la Beard After Hours?
Tumblr media
Completely contradicting what I said above, but Ted reading a football book right after he finds out Trent is going to be hanging around... this is the guy who asked him if he could explain the offside rule and asked if he was a fucking joke.
The time on Keeley's phone is 11:09, but they just had wishing time which is 11:11! Continuity!!
Fuck off, Trent Crimm. 😂😂😂
Tumblr media
Dani still smiles are Trent when the team are ignoring him. He is a precious pure soul and should be protected at all costs.
People bought Roy white orchids! In Series 2, he questioned how Jamie Carragher knew he like white orchids when he joined Sky Sports. Great little call back.
Again, Keeley's phone says that it's 14:00, but the TV says it's 13:32 straight after. Come on, guys!
Also they say that this game is the start of the season and later Rebecca congratulates Rupert on West Ham winning yesterday.
There's just no way that Roy doesn't know what Hallmark Christmas films are. They're on everywhere here (in July as well as December!) and he's definitely watched at least one with the yoga ladies.
Underrated joke:
Tumblr media
Trent's little shake of the head when the rest of the Diamond Dogs agree Julie Andrews is worth fancying... 😂
What's that? Me getting emotional over Trent's reaction to being included and validated by Ted, Beard, and Roy?
The Norm Macdonald name check was a nice nod, but I promise you, the average person in the UK would have no idea who he was.
How did I not notice that when Zava shakes hands with Keeley he kisses his own hand?
What is the choice behind this reaction, Jason??
Tumblr media
WILL
Tumblr media
Ted popping out from behind Zava is still hilarious.
Gahhhhhh they fucked up the graphics of the table. After the Brentford match it should be played 7 and the points should be 19. (Maybe they have fixed this on Apple since?)
Tumblr media
How pissed off is Isaac going to be when he finds out he has already met Colin's bf?
Rebecca's red dress. Oh boy.
Tumblr media
Jamie's bit with the make-up artist for the Bantr advert is so cute.
MAY A YOUNG ROBERT RETFORD PORTRAY YOU IN A FILM SOMEDAY.
Oh Nate making a stupid joke that Ted would love and Rupert not getting it (or specifically pretending not to) 😭😭😭
What season is this supposed to be?? The timestamp on the CCTV of Nate said it was 2021 so that would have been the 20/21 season making this the 21/22 season, but Ted's text messages are dated throughout 2022. The latest being to Henry on 28th October 2022.
Beat them. LOL
Tumblr media
Nice call back to series 1 of Nate spitting out the martini.
More quotes that make me nervous:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stop letting the British characters say 'elevator' i beg of you.
I find it so unbearably uncomfortable that boat guy kisses Rebecca's foot. She should have kicked him in the face.
Isaac leopard print socks!
Tumblr media
I can't believe they are tumbledrying Rebecca's fancy clothes.
Oh shit. The basketball game Ted remembers watching with his dad was June 1991. That's only 3 months before his dad killed himself. 😩
They were mad for this triangle hallucination business. Honestly.
When Jamie and Roy arrive back at the coach, the subtitles have Jamie saying "You lovely people", but it sounds so much like "you lucky people" and with the voice he does makes me question if it's a nod to a bicycle riding character in Spaced who says the same thing. Phil Dunster posted a video of the "inspiration" behind the bike scenes which was a clip with Simon Pegg who co-wrote the show, so maybe? VERY obscure if it is!
Still angry about Jack defacing the first edition of Sense and Sensibility.
Please learn how to say croissant.
Papa Obisanya looks like he gives such good hugs.
I love how subtly Will sticks his finger up at Jamie.
Tumblr media
Another classic Will reaction:
Tumblr media
The Good Dads Club:
Tumblr media
I fucking love that Colin wore a hi-vis jacket to help clear up Sam's restaurant. Truly committing to the chameleon bit.
I will NEVER be over this:
Tumblr media
Thought I would be ok watching this by now, but Billy's face just kills me.
Tumblr media
Henry being so excited to see Nate 💔
BEARD AND HENRY 😭😭😭😭
I love Keeley and Rebecca's little head movements when Ted is singing his little heart-bent song. There are so many little moments where characters are in sync with each other's movement this series. Someone should make a gifset.
Ha! I missed this line last time. Drag him, Jade.
Tumblr media
Still think Rebecca and Marcus would be cute together.
How can this show end without Sam playing for Nigeria??? IT'S SO FUCKING SAD.
God, Hannah looks so beautiful in blue.
So. Fucking. Fond. Look at his face when Ted is pretending that he didn't realised "The Devil" was Rupert...
Tumblr media
Elodie is such a fab little actor. Her face when she works out what the name on Roy's shirt spells is fantastic.
HOW CAN ANYONE CALL SAM UGLY. HE IS SO BEAUTIFUL, PLEASE.
Sam Richardson is so great. I wish I didn't have to hate Akufo so much.
Another episode, another great reaction shot from everyone with MVP Will.
Tumblr media
The bit before little Rebecca appears...was anyone else worried that he catching her breath was gonna be some cliché feeling faint because she was pregnant? Still a bit concerned tbh.
asdfghjkl Akufo is wearing a purple suit. Like Willy Wonka!
Oof. The Nathan stuff isn't any easier for me the second time round.
Concerned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And these have been my thoughts.

Note
since your faves morph with your re-watches. let's say ted lasso. but also black sails and tvd for the ask meme <3
LOL. It doesn't happen with every story, since I think it's a result of uniquely expansive character arcs and a 'verse so impactful on my psyche I'm bound to analyze it six ways to Sunday...... which is not THAT easy to find LOL. That said.
TED LASSO
This one could easily change because I really only have strong-ish attachment to the first 2-3 on the list tbh.
Rebecca. How could she not? She's the fucking shit. AND she's unbelievably hot.
Keeley. I ADORE everything she is.
Ted. His backstory regarding his father is eerily similar to that of one of my oldest, best-beloved OCs. Once I made that connection, it was downhill from there.
Roy. He and I are kindred spirits xDD
Sam. He's just a sweetheart with really good leading instincts once he's in a better place to grow. I have a soft spot for that stuff.
Least favourite: I mean, on the one hand, you have Rupert, who's THE WORST lol. But... yeah, yeah, Nate is on the path to redemption, and he's definitely suffered a whole deal, etc. etc. He just happens to act in a way I can't help but find abhorrent in people so.... he's on thin ice LOL. Rupert wins but he deserves the mention.
(the fact that season 3 has been out for a week and I've already seen two posts that tried to downplay his misogynistic/incel tendencies doesn't help tbh)
BLACK SAILS
This one is tricky. I do plan to do a proper rewatch (and then a stackedsails rewatch for 2025 :DDD), which will clarify things. There's no version of events where Max and Silver wouldn't be my numbers 1 and 2, respectively. It's afterwards that it gets trickier.
I've offhandedly mentioned this before but, at least with certain stories (those where I'm here to appreciate the entirety of the story, basically), the impact of a character's arc ends up weighing more than any feeling of affection that I might feel for the person they embody, if that makes sense.
I'd say Flint is the most likely candidate for number 3. The other two slots... characters like Madi or Mr. Scott are still on the running (mix of both appreciation of their impact and their rarity as characters, and admiration for their personalities); but others like Vane, Eleanor or Billy have prominent, incredibly satisfying individual arcs more in consistent dialogue with the story's themes that could give them an edge.
For least favourite: yes, antagonists like Ashe or Rogers are obviously awful (the latter is at least really interesting for me; the former is just a spineless worm). But man. The way this fandom overrates Thomas is just something else xD
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
Caroline. NUMBER ONE IN MY HEART, 5EVER, ETC. ETC. u know the deal.
Bonnie. I love her, I admire her, I understand her. And she's beautiful and I'm not made of stone.
Curveball ahead but: Elena. She's been promoted to #my schrödinger fave LOL. My opinion of her as a person hasn't changed xD, but she awakens my imagination and my love for narrative analysis like very few characters do.
Qetsiyah. I just think she's cool <3
Tyler. Oh, the tragedy of it :(
Least favourite: to quote myself - if you tied my hands behind my back, I would kill Damon with my teeth.
