I like to imagine the kurashikis game over ace jigsaw style when leaving him tied up in the van and that's not an euphemism if you've never seen a Saw movie they like to have these big dramatic scenes where the mastermind says Game Over before locking someone up for good or cornering them or otherwise establishing the winner of the game and it's iconic even if it. got a little silly by like the fifth time it happened anyways I think it fits them and they should get to do it

HAPPY HALLOWEEEN IMO!!! 🧛🏼‍♀️🖤 I spy a new letterboxd link in your bio omg following asap!! movie critic era??? but ok back to biz : october roundup!! did you end up reading anything particularly spooky or compelling? are there any must-reads on your list for these final few months of 2023?
JUMPSCARE!! final months of 2023.. how did we get here. yeah i made a letterboxd!! not sure about critic but i've been playing moviegrid everyday and i love logging things so maybe i will become a cinephile one day... BUT let's get back to books it was a very good month! into the
october book wrap up
Girls Out Late and Girls In Tears by Jacqueline Wilson
finished this series early october! i had an absolute blast! perfect way to reignite my love for reading i'm definitely going to have more JW books as a reset point if i'm ever in a slump again.
The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle
i still don't know my thoughts on this idk i'm not very good with words like that. i think this is very cool and intriguing and i enjoyed reading it! the supernatural and horror elements were really original to me and i think it being a short novella paid off.
At Night All Blood Is Black by David Diop
short French read. some of the repetitive stylistic and linguistic choices did wear a little thin on me around the halfway mark, but i was willing to just bear with it because the book is so short. ghoulish, i think. interesting threads on colonialism and war that i think are very apt. horrific in a depraved human nature kind of way
Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark
oh. OH! yeah! this was fantastical and gory and soooo eerie and i loved it! one of my top 2023 reads. really well researched and fleshed out historical references and the character work was so exceptional to me. this moved me in a way i wasn't expecting
The Lonely Londoners by Sam Selvon
neat! i think this is really important as a piece of literature documenting the camaraderie and community Black West Indian men were creating for themselves in London as part of Windrush. it was comedic and real and it's just. i don't know because my family didn't settle in London post-war, but there was so much that was so close in terms of familiarity that resonated with me. great read.
currently i'm reading Small Island by Andrea Levy and i think it's interesting to see the contrast in how she's written about Windrush. not to say Selvon didn't acknowledge the racism and hardship, but it takes a complete backseat in TLL and is secondary to the rest of the book whereas it's the focal point in Small Island. something to be said about how being Black in England is as hard as it is joyful. only around 60% in but very much enjoying
rest of the year reads
i'm actually not too sure! i have a few more Black British books i want to get through but now that i've hit my reading goal (woo!) i'm just trying to take it easy continue seeking a diversity of stories and authors you know how it goes

Cognito Watch Party:
Warnings: sfw, movie genres and references to thrillers, horror films, trashy tv and shows
Content: sfw, television and movie choices, various themes and genres of television and film
Reagan Ridley:
- Movies: unironically loves cult classic “bad films” that’re more popular but lower in quality. Also loves some psychological thrillers, animation, & sci-if stuff and watches them like comfort movies. Reagan watches: Space Jam + the sequel, Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, Grown Ups + Grown Ups 2, Inception, Don’t Look Up, All Dogs Go To Heaven, The Usual Suspects, Ghostbusters I-III, Austin Powers Saga, Harry Potter franchise, and War Dogs.
- TV: Reagan watches documentaries/docuseries, thrillers, clever and dark comedies, and animated shows, and series that get a little therapeutic for her. Therapy seems a bit of a stretch but seeing the family bullshit of others through Fleabag and Shameless help her lots. Reagan Watches: Ozark, Manhunt: Unabomber, The Legend of Korra, Arrested Development, Fleabag, Schitt’s Creek, Drunk History, History of Swear Words, Love Death + Robots, Forged In Fire, Shameless, Arcane, Black Mirror, Mindhunter, Community, and Russian Doll.
Brett Hand:
- Movies: I see this man loving 80’s feel-good flicks and Adam Sandler films. Like mindless, kitschy comedy and classics. Also watches trashy romcoms. Brett watches: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, The Outsiders, The Goonies, Stand By Me, The Sandlot, Top Gun & Maverick, Happy Gilmore, Grown Ups, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Star Wars (original trilogy), Spaceballs, Die Hard, and Ghostbusters I-III.
- TV: hes a feel-good show person, avoiding spooky or stress-inducing shows and tv that could freak him out. He goes for mindless comedy that’s more domestic, preferring sitcom. Especially family centric ones! Brett watches: Modern Family, The Office, F.R.I.E.N.D.S., Cheers, The Umbrella Academy, and Stranger Things. Also watches Parks and Rec, The Good Place, New Girl, King Of the Hill, M.A.D. tv, Bob’s Burgers, Robot Chicken, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Gravity Falls.
JR Scheimpough:
- Movies: Watches the classics™️ + organized crime films + white men movies. I don’t see him as a movie watcher like frequently but they’re some of the films he’d choose on a flight or commuting. JR watches: The Godfather part I & II, Casino, Goodfellas, Wolf of Wallstreet, American Psycho, Legally Blonde, Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, Scarface, Heat, The Longest Yard, Silence of the Lambs. He’s also got a soft spot for Finding Nemo, The Devil Wears Prada, Monty Python movies, and Sabrina (both the black & white film and the 90s one)
- TV: This man watches docuseries, drama shows, period dramas, and some business comedies. It’s a blend of boss-workplace dramatics and humor, historical drama, period pieces, and just little bits and pieces that get him laughing and forgetting about his day a bit. JR watches: Suits, Billions, Peaky Blinders, Ozark, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Succession, The Pentaverate, The Crown, The Wire, Ted Lasso, Barry, Fleabag, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Gigi Thompson:
- Movies: She’s got the wildest blend of gory slashers and feel-good chick flicks. Unsettlingly funny and ironic. Gigi’s just as giddy and smiley when watching the slashers as she is with seeing Elle Woods pass the LSAT. Movie night truly do be wild with this babe. Gigi watches: Legally Blonde, Carrie, Cujo, Mean Girls, Clueless, The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, Hush, The Exorcist, The Omen, Pretty Woman, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Sabrina (the 90s version), New York Minute, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Ring, The Conjuring, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloweeen, Insidious, Sweet Home Alabama, and Candyman.
- TV: Similar taste in shows as she had with movies but sprinkles in boss bitch shows and avoids thriller or scary shows. She prefers the drama ones and avoids reality tv after the whole K*rdashian fiasco, preferring to keep celebrities far away from her and seen only on a screen. Gigi watches: Gossip Girl, Succession, Billions, Suits, 30 Rock, Veep, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Fleabag, Bridgerton, Disenchantment, First Kill, Dynasty, Ginny and Georgia, You, Insatiable, Villanelle, Inventing Anna, The Queen’s Gambit, and The Chair.
Andre Lee:
- Movies: Silly comedies, romcoms, and comedic coming of age stories. It’s a big ass blend of movies and films that he likes and watches, from spooky to silly and sexy to childish. Andre watches: Monty Python, Jackass, Fantastic Fungi, Osmosis Jones, The Wolf of Wallstreet, Shrek Saga, When Harry Met Sally, Steel Magnolias, Wayne’s World, Caddyshack, Animal House, Hush, The Boy, Fifty Shades of Grey, Ferngully, The Princess and the Frog, and Die Hard.
- TV: Andre watches Euphoria while getting high as blatant irony to the plot line. He thinks he’s hilarious. He also has variating taste of genres, kitschy comedy, animated shows, mindless shit. Half the time it’s stuff to get high to and other times it’s stuff he leaves on in the background. Andre watches: Disenchantment, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gossip Girl, The Midnight Gospel, Narcos, Gilmore Girls, Total Drama, Tear Along the Dotted Line, Disjointed, The Simpsons, Saiki K, Grace and Frankie, M*A*S*H*, Kim’s Convenience, and Euphoria.
Robotus Alpha Beta:
- Movies: not going to lie, he doesn’t seem like a movie man? Like he’s one to watch them half-heartedly if it’s with you or a group, but he won’t go out of his way to watch a movie. Televisions a bit different for him. I think Ro can be lured into certain movies and he may watch some of your favorites on his own time to better understand you, but personally? Not for him. But if it came to it, Robotus watches: your favorites
- TV: he likes semi-mindless comedies and sitcoms??? He’s seen the foils of man in milliseconds and tries to avoid all the stuff he’s encountered. In turn, he goes to things that’re funny or dramatic that can remind him subtly of those he’s, ugh, friends with, and how they’ve made humanity more bearable. Robotus watches: The Umbrella Academy, Seinfeld, F.R.I.E.N.D.S., Frasier, Succession, Modern Family, Fleabag, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Boys, and Derry Girls.
Glenn Dolphman:
- Movies: Watches history documentaries, war films, military propaganda films, and period dramas. Also watches southern films too, for some nostalgia and comfort. Reminds him of his mumma’. Glenn watches: Steel Magnolias, A Few Good Men, Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Help, The Notebook, Smokey and the Bandit, Jaws, Hacksaw Ridge, The Shawshank Redemption, Dunkirk, Jackie, Spencer.
- TV: mix of history shows, docuseries, military and law enforcement shows, and silly comedies. Some shows are for the similar dynamics to work, to his military life, and etc. others he just enjoys. Strange silly man. Glenn watches: Law and Order NCIS, The Sons of Liberty, Turn: Washington’s Spies, Downtown Abbey, Young Sheldon, Community, Space Force, The Pentaverate, Will and Grace, The Lincoln Lawyer, Bridgerton, Squid Game, and unironically, everything during shark week. And of course, M*A*S*H*
Magic Myc:
- Movies: a Blend of truly random shit that’s somewhat nostalgic but also a crackpot of dumb bullshittery that fits his persona wholly and completely. It’s funny and stupid and clever and smarmy. Just like him!! Myc watches: Animal House, Fantastic Fungi, Grown Ups, Don’t Look Up, Monty Python and the Holy Grail + The Life of Brian, The Usual Suspects, Harry Potter franchise, When Harry Met Sally, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Omen, The Birds, Casablanca, and Chucky.
- TV: i feel that he and Andre hang out and watch shit together but mainly talk shit, like get high or just sit around on a couch and absolutely pick apart whatever stupid shitbirds are running around on the screen. They’ll also make rituals of watching certain shows together and if they tv-cheat they get PISSED. Myc watches: Forged In Fire, The Umbrella Academy, Love It Or List It, Stranger Things, Total Drama, The Midnight Gospel, Bob’s Burgers, Master Chef, Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, House Hunters, Cowboy Bebop, Clone High, Amphibia, Gravity Falls, Robot Chicken, Love Death + Robots, America Ninja Warrior, Arrested Development, The Voice, America’s Got Talent, and Squid Game.

Can I request some platonic Sanders Sides hcs with reader and the Sides carving pumpkins and doing other Halloween stuff? -&
Omg yes what a cute idea
Once it gets to October 1 you best bet Virgil and the creativitwins are immediately pumped
Logan will not allow anything Halloweeny until at least like October 10th
Roman and Remus specialize in pumpkin carving
Roman always carves his with a little crown or something and it looks so cute and amazing
Remus’ are usually like the scary monster type but he puts so much detail into it like they’ve scared kids away before
It’s like the one time the twins actually get along, especially if you do it with them
They’ll pass ideas and tools back and forth and both would be super excited if you asked them for help
Roman makes sure you don’t hurt yourself while you’re cutting and Remus helps make the design look more realistic it’s actually like really cute
Virgil always has the best costume every year
If you wanted some help making yours you would be flooded with sides
Virgil and the twins are there to give you ideas and make it gorier if that’s what you want
Logan will measure out eaxactly what you need of everything and will help you sew and put it together
Patton is also pretty good at sewing and if you wanted like an animal or something he does the cutest makeup ever
Deceit makes sure everything is perfect I mean he puts so much thought into his own outfit and he wants to “make sure you don’t embarrass yourself” but really he just likes how proud you seem
Patton tends to be pretty jumpy around Halloween due to the creepy crawly death dealers
He really loves passing out candy to trick or treaters though it makes him so happy to see all their costumes and reward them for their hard work
Like most other holidays, Logan doesn’t get it
He mostly participates in the decorating since he thinks it’s ideal that Thomas’ house looks the best
And it actually looks really good like he’s managed to cover most of the house in that cotton spiderweb stuff without it bunching up
He somehow manages to coordinate the decorations with whatever the twins have put on the pumpkins this year
So it actually looks like really good
It takes a bit of convincing but Deciet ends up helping you cook some halloweeen dishes
Patton would do it but most of what you make would scare him
Deciet ends up really enjoying making things with you like donut hole spiders or like hotdog mummies
Maybe also a candy corn Jell-O shot
It’s overall just a really fun bonding experience for everyone
You probably end up watching horror movies on the couch once all the trick or treaters have gone to bed
Don’t worry Patton’s already asleep
Remus always grabs you during the jump scares
Virgil is also a little jumpy but tends to laugh at the characters when they do something stupid
The scariest thing is probably Roman’s screams, honestly
If you liked this please request more and let me know if you want to be added to the taglist!!!

Monster Mash? Non-Scary Anime for Halloween Wimps
Halloween is generally viewed as a season of supernatural thrills, but some us—even some of us who routinely watch horror movies or read scary stories—aren't always in the mood for the terrifying and the macabre. Some of us, in fact, are gigantic, rubbery babies when it comes to anything more frightening than E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, so what are we supposed to do when October rolls around and suddenly the Internet is flush with features proclaiming which scary anime are essential Halloween viewing?
Fear not, gentle reader, for this article features nothing but the cutest, funniest, gentlest, or strangest viewer recommendations for anime involving things that go bump in the night. Below please find (in alphabetical order) a curated chronicle of some nine shows that are more sweet than spooky.
    Actually, I Am
  Year Aired: 2015
Contents: Vampires, demons, gender-bending werewolves, very tiny aliens
Profile: When Asahi Kuromine's would-be crush, Yoko Shiragami, turns out to be a vampire in disguise, she's allowed to continue attending the same school as her human friends so long as no one else learns her true identity, a task that is complicated by Asahi's general inability to keep quiet as well as the presence of numerous other supernatural entities among the class and faculty.
Comfort Level: A cozy evening under the kotatsu, with plenty of mandarin oranges on hand.
Where you can find it: Actually, I Am is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, and the series is also released on DVD and Bluray in North America by Eastern Star. An English language version of the original manga is available from Seven Seas Entertainment under the title My Monster Secret.
    Cuticle Detective Inaba
  Year Aired: 2013
Contents: Werewolves, mad scientists, goats with a penchant for organized crime
Profile: Former police dog turned private detective Hiroshi Inaba (who is also a werewolf) was ready to leave his old life behind, but his previous partner keeps dragging him into investigations involving the nefarious Valentino Family, a Mafia organization led by Don Valentino, for whom the letters “g.o.a.t.” take on a meaning other than “greatest of all time”.
Comfort Level: A play session with a friendly but precocious puppy.
Where you can find it: Cuticle Detective Inaba is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, and the series is also available on Bluray and DVD from Sentai Filmworks.
Demon Girl Next Door, The
  Year Aired: 2019
Contents: Demon girls, magical girls, overly dramatic familiars
Profile: One day, Yuko Yoshida awakens to her dark destiny as “Shadow Mistress Yuko” (“Shamiko” for short) and learns that she must spill the blood of a magical girl in order to break the seal on her family's diabolical powers. Unfortunately, Shamiko's a complete wuss who can't even throw a punch and the local magical girl, Momo Chiyoda, is a physical powerhouse, so the two end up becoming close friends instead.
Comfort Level: Winning a particularly grueling thumb-wrestling match against your kid cousin.
Where you can find it: The Demon Girl Next Door is currently streaming on HIDIVE and VRV.
    Don Dracula
  Year Aired: 1982
Contents: Vampires, vampire hunters, enthusiastic large women who long to be bitten
Profile: A horror-themed comedy based on the manga by none-other-than Osamu Tezuka himself, Don Dracula only managed to animate 8 episodes before the commercial sponsors funding it went bankrupt. Highlights of the series include Dracula's cute daughter, Chocola, and Van Helsing having an intestinal emergency and taking a poop in Dracula's coffin.
Comfort Level: Realizing that even people regarded as artistic geniuses have a few turkeys in their body of work.
Where you can find it: Don Dracula used to be available via streaming on Viki and YouTube, but at the time of this writing, these videos are no longer available in the United States.
    Flying Witch
  Year Aired: 2016
Contents: Witches, seasonal spirits, vegetables with a threatening aura
Profile: A cozy little tale that follows the apprentice training of a would-be witch with no sense of direction as she lives with her cousins in the Japanese countryside, Flying Witch celebrates all of the little things that make life worth living, such as gathering wild herbs, spontaneously chasing pheasants, and making poor life decisions after imbibing a few too many adult beverages.
Comfort Level: Being swaddled in your warmest blanket with a warm cup of cocoa (complete with marshmallows) on a chilly winter day.
Where you can find it: Flying Witch is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, and the series is also released on DVD and Bluray in North America by Sentai Filmworks. An English language version of the Flying Witch manga is published by Vertical.
    How to Keep a Mummy
  Year Aired: 2018
Contents: Tiny mummies, tiny dragons, tiny creatures of myth and folklore
Profile: Caring for an animal companion can be a huge responsibility, but what if the pet in question is an ancient Egyptian mummy that can fit in the palm of your hand? How to Keep a Mummy is a short-form series that's sure to deliver bite-sized moments of bliss for even the sternest monster-lovers.
Comfort Level: A sixty minute YouTube compilation of pandas falling over, set to smooth jazz.
Where you can find it: How to Keep a Mummy is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
  Interviews with Monster Girls
  Year Aired: 2017
Contents: Teenage vampires, teenage yuki onna, teenage dullahans, teacher succubi
Profile: Overcoming physical disabilities and pushing back against social stigmas are a daily challenge for the demihuman high school students in this heart-warming and humorous TV anime based on the manga by Petos. And you thought your adolescence was weird...
Comfort Level: The realization, muted by the distance of decades, that maybe high school wasn't that terrible after all.
Where you can find it: Interviews with Monster Girls is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. An English language version of the original manga is available from Kodansha Comics, and the series is released in North America on a Bluray/DVD combo pack by Funimation.
  Is This a Zombie?
  Years Aired: 2011 - 2012
Contents: Zombies, necromancers, ninja vampires, magical garment girls
Profile: Ayumu Aikawa is an ordinary high school student who has to deal with the curse of undeath as well as a harem of supernatural interlopers including a reticent necromancer and a chainsaw-wielding magical girl in this light novel-based comedy that is silly, ultra-violent, and just a bit lewd.
Comfort Level: That numb, prickly sensation you get when you sleep in a weird position and your entire left arm falls asleep.
Where you can find it: Both seasons of Is This a Zombie? are currently streaming on Funimation, and Funimation also releases the series in North America on a Bluray/DVD combo pack. An English language version of the manga adaptation is also available from Yen Press.
Ms. Vampire who lives in my neighborhood.
  Year Aired: 2018
Contents: Moe vampires, moe vampire enthusiasts, a thinly-disguised Amazon.com
Profile: It's a tale as old as time: girl meets girl. Girl loses girl. Girl discovers girl is a centuries old vampire, then gets girl back again by unceremoniously moving into her mansion along with her collection of creepy dolls. Vampire girl orders otaku merchandise online. Vampire girl's friends show up. Truly, it's a close encounter of the moe kind.
Comfort Level: The supreme satisfaction of ordering pizza online and then having it delivered straight to your door and eating it off of paper plates rather than cooking a real meal and then having to clean up the kitchen and the dishes afterwards.
Where you can find it: Ms. Vampire who lives in my neighborhood. is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
And there you have it, a (mostly) wholesome list of monster-themed anime for celebrating the Halloween season in a not-too-spooky manner. The titles here are by no means exhaustive—we didn't even mention Toei's 1980 masterpiece, Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned (pictured above)—nor did we delve into other honorable mentions such as As Miss Beelzebub Likes it. or MONSTER MUSUME EVERYDAY LIFE WITH MONSTER GIRLS.
There's a whole world of cute and cuddly Halloween-appropriate anime out there, just waiting to be discovered. What are some of your favorite non-scary series? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to have a Happy Halloweeen!
