5, 12, and 18 for the music asks?
certainly!
5. a song that needs to be played LOUD: DESTROYA by my chemical romance! this is my favorite song of theirs, the all-caps title is well deserved bc this song needs to be played so loudly it shakes your eardrums. it's soooo awesome <3
12. a song from your preteen years: bring me to life by evanescence! before i was aware of youtube i would sit by the radio waiting for this song to play, and i distinctly remember watching sooo many lps mvs with this song. 10/10 this was the beginning of my path to being an edgy little shit and i still have my fallen cd somewhere
18. a song from the year you were born: sympathy by the goo goo dolls! not a whole lot to say about this one but it is my favorite song of theirs :) some other songs from 2002 i like are no children by the mountain goats, jerk it out by caesars, clocks by coldplay, and headfirst for halos by my chemical romance

ok, i saw your music ask bait 6 7 10 18 23
Hell yeah. (rubs my grubby little hands together)
6) what was the first concert you went to? The Goo Goo Dolls' "Gutterflower" tour. I was 14 years old and I went with my cool hippie aunt. I met John Rzeznik and all my stupid little teen mouth could say was "my legs are shaking" and he was like "then you better stop drinking all that coffee."
7) do you prefer cds, streaming or vinyl? I've unfortunately become a slut for vinyl. The discs are so pretty and they're fun to play, and I'm desperate for the return of physical media. Streaming is really convenient on the go though.
10) you have to get a lyric tattoo — which lyric is it? Oh, I'm already planning to get one as my first. From Will Wood and the Tapeworms' "-ish": "I am a point in time and space." Not just as an homage to my favorite artist, whose work helped me advance my mental health treatment and helped me meet a lot of people I love and inspires me in general, but also to remind me that I am just a small part of a very big universe. Just... the existentialism of it all. Nothing matters, and that's great. This is the tentative sketch:
Tumblr media
18) how important is music to you on a scale of 0-100 ? I'm really bad at conceptualizing scales but I'm honestly going to say... somewhere in the 90s. Like at a certain point if I realize I haven't heard some good music in a bit I start going insane.
23) how did you discover your favorite artist? I first heard Will Wood because my buddies were playing "The Normal Album" right after it came out in our Discord chat and it rocked my world lol.

Listening to Gutterflower this AM to try to beckon spring a little quicker. The Replacements for chicks. Power pop for girls (horny for their inaccessible interiority).

what do you think are byler’s favorite pieces of art? it can be a painting, book, song, musical, poem or whatever else comes to your mind! <3
much love, @byler-art-anon 🌸
aw tysm for the ask!
i think mike would love some of the classics bookwise, like dracula or frankenstein when he's in his late teens to early twenties. i feel like he'd totally geek out over them, and always be prepared to argue that the books are better than the movies.
i feel like will would love the goo goo dolls later in life bc they didn't exist during the 80's sldkfjl but also because i am biased and love the goo goo dolls and project like all of their songs onto byler. especially all of the songs from gutterflower.

Here Is Gone by Goo Goo Dolls is a song from the band's seventh studio album, Gutterflower, released in 2002. The song is written by the lead singer and guitarist, John Rzeznik, and is a relatively angry, passive aggressive break-up song about a girl that has been lying to him and he wants out of his life for good. The song explores the relationship situations of deception, disillusionment, and detachment that the narrator experiences with his partner.
The song starts with a distorted guitar riff and Rzeznik's vocals, setting a tense and bitter tone. The narrator states that he and his partner have something, but it's nothing to him, implying that their relationship is superficial and meaningless. He also says that he has his defenses, when it comes to her intentions for him, suggesting that he does not trust her or her motives. He also says that they wake up in the breakdown, with the things they never thought they could be, indicating that their relationship has deteriorated and changed them for the worse. He sings, "You and I got something / But it's all and then it's nothing to me, yeah / And I got my defenses / When it comes through your intentions for me, yeah / And we wake up in the breakdown / With the things we never thought we could be, yeah".
The pre-chorus then follows with a softer guitar and drums, creating a contrast and a sense of regret. The narrator tells his partner that he is not the one who broke her, and he is not the one she should fear, implying that he is not responsible for her problems or her insecurities. He also tells her that they have to move on, and that he thought he lost her somewhere, but she was never really ever there at all, implying that he has given up on their relationship and that she was never committed or honest with him. He sings, "I'm not the one who broke you / I'm not the one you should fear / We got to move you darling / I thought I lost you somewhere / But you were never really ever there at all".
The chorus then kicks in with a louder and faster guitar and drums, creating a sense of urgency and frustration. The narrator says that he wants to get free, and he wants her to talk to him, implying that he wants to end their relationship and he wants her to be honest with him. He also says that he can feel her falling, and he wanted to be all she needs, implying that he can sense her losing interest and he wanted to make her happy. He also says that somehow here is gone, implying that their relationship is over and there is no hope for reconciliation. He sings, "And I want to get free / Talk to me / I can feel you falling / And I wanted to be / All you need / Somehow here is gone".
The second verse continues with the same melody and instrumentation as the first verse, but with slightly different lyrics. The narrator describes how he feels trapped and suffocated by his partner, and how he wants to find his way back home, implying that he feels unhappy and lost in their relationship and he wants to return to his true self. He also says that he is not the solution, and he is not the answer, implying that he cannot fix their relationship or her issues. He sings, "I am no solution / To the sound of this pollution in me, yeah / And I was not the answer / So forget you ever thought it was me, yeah / I'm in a daze / It's just a craze / I need to find my way back home / I'm in a phase / It's just a fake / I need to find my way back home".
The chorus then repeats with the same lyrics and intensity as before, but with an added backing vocal that echoes the word "gone". The narrator again expresses his desire to break free from his partner and his relationship, and his disappointment and frustration with her. He also admits that he is not okay, and he has to change, implying that he is unhappy and dissatisfied with himself and his situation. He sings, "And I want to get free / Talk to me / I can feel you falling / And I wanted to be
