so i don’t know how many game theorists follow my blog but i just wanna say. i always keep coming back to game theory’s livestreams, and not just for nostalgia.

sure, i absolutely love the dynamic between steph, jason, chris, matthew etc in the old days and i love the banter between mirror matt, ash, and matpat. but if there’s anything genuinely making me come back it’s matpat himself.

just the way he genuinely seems to listen to people, to any person who comes on, about any topic. he’ll ask questions and show genuine interest and add onto it with everything that he knows. i know he loves learning, so this shouldn’t be a surprise.

it’s just something you don’t see in a lot of people. i feel like a lot of people just half-listen or listen out of courtesy and that’s fine, but i love how clearly you can see mat being excited about whatever you’re gonna say next.

i understand he may not be like this all the time, or off stream, but i do think it’s a great part of his personality.

the way he thinks about things so technically compared to everyone else in the room really stands out and makes for different type of let’s plays where everything is being “analyzed” rather than just “reacted to.”

idk. just an appreciation post for matpat <3

Mathew Patrick of Game Theory, Film Theory, Food and Style theory and GTLive thank you for changing my life.

Game Theory was something I found after exploring the theory space and really helped me in a time where I was confused academically and in myself. I was 16 years old and still recovering from some academic trauma and this channel helped me regain confidence. It helped me with critical thinking and my confidence in school. It introduced me to new games and communities and helped me make new friends. It got me to question the world around me.

Film theory got me to question media and the way I consume it. And now my friends absolutely hate me for pointing out inconsistencies and plot points that you’d make theories on. And god help my friends and family if Jaws comes on because I am an absolute menace when it comes to that movie and my overthinking of it.

Food Theory might have one of the most special place in my heart. I used to have an ED, I refused food and only drank water and hated my body. I’d change clothes in the dark and avoid the mirror because of how much I hated my body. But Food Theory, it helped me repair my relationship with food. It got me to learn about the science and how our body processes and needs food. It’s amazing how much I have come thanks to Food Theory.

Style Theory really helped me with my dysphoria. Like I said my body is something I have a very complicated relationship with. But style theory helped me realize that there are other people like me. Those last two episodes you hosted really helped me find who I am style wise. It’s amazing!

And GTLive, the dearest one to my heart. GTLive was my place to be after school. I’d watch the live streams, participate in chat, and have fun. And GTNotLive with Mirror Mat, Ash and Jason (always blame Jason), introduced me to so many games and left me with so many moments that I will always cherish.

Thank you for everything MatPat. Have fun in the sunset. And remember that’s just a post. A wholesome post. Thanks for reading.

MattPatt did a GtNotLive on Project Iris. Thean didn't understand it so badly he needed TWO other people to help him figure it out and they STILL got lost and ended up saying half the shit they saw was "Donald Duck" and they were specifically told not to bring up Mark's Ego's but they did! It's a testimony to how horrible it was. The guy who can make a Theory on ANYTHING was stumped by Sean shitty story.
