📸 'Death had Undone so Many' by @adriaan.van.heerden is a new, poetic depiction of monotony. Of monotony across people, place, and time universal. It is at once enticing and suffocating in its depth. Originally posted with the following text by @thelondonmagazine :- • "Death Had Undone So Many", another piece from Adriaan van Heerden's upcoming photography book Unreal City, a visual study of contemporary London through the eyes of T.S. Eliot's epic modernist poem The Waste Land. The title of this picture refers to the stanza during the section "The Burial of the Dead" which talks about people commuting 100 years ago, showing that really nothing ever changes: "Unreal City Under the brown fog of a winter dawn, A crowd flowed over London Bridge, so many, I had not thought death had undone so many. Not sure I've mentioned it before but I LOVE walking. When exploring I easily walk 15-20km a day, especially when on holidays. The 'Gothic Revival' was an eighteenth century architectural movement, which saw a reignited public interest in the European gothic building style of the Middle Ages(, and of course the birth of the literary canon). Architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812-1852) was at the forefront of this movement, and is responsible for one of England's most iconic buildings: The Palace of Westminster, also known as The Houses of Parliament.
