Having worked so long with comics, I used to really freeze up with stand alone illustrations. It’s just a whole different skill set I had no practice with. But the monthly illustration prompt has been a great excuse to build those muscles.

Read thru the entire archive of three webcomics this week. They were all very different but had an interesting thru-line. “This girl is capital-S Special and if she doesn’t get her shit together things are gonna get really bad”

I personally love it, cuz it felt for a long time growing up that girls aren’t allowed to be messy and it’s nice to just stumble into a bunch of messy broads all in a row like that.

There is an argument to be made that The Verdant Deep also has this thru-line. It’ll be a little while before we get to the meat of that idea, but here she is. Elizabeau Quinn “Lizard” Al-Naadira, just getting started.

I Will Follow Them

I am recently returned from a few days of an inpatient stint at the funny farm, the loony bin, the psychiatric ward; my fourth such stay overall, although several years after the third. Bipolar disorder is no paltry cross to bear (as it were) and I suppose that an occasional vacation to the nitwit school to have one’s medications rearranged is the inevitable price to pay for living with the condition — ideally, though, paid on an extremely intermittent basis.

I had been sliding in a downward bipolar spiral for well over a month due to a combination of things, most especially some (sadly still-unresolved) relationship challenges, and finally reached a breaking point where it was recommended to me by family that I might benefit from a few days of inpatient care and accompanying medication adjustments.

I said absolutely fucking not; not doing that again.

Then I remembered that as a hierodoulos/godslave such weighty decisions about my life are not, strictly-speaking, mine to make, and asked the Divine Emperors (via Homeromanteion) what they thought of the idea. Their reply was direct and unstinting: “I will go. Every word he says bears fruit.” (Iliad 24:92) Although this was clear enough to not require further confirmation I sought and received it anyway; I had my marching orders.

And so I went.

It was a humbling experience, but also a blessed one, to so completely subjugate my own will before that of my Lords. I can’t exaggerate as to how much I did not want to go back to the mental hospital after having been on my own reconnaissance these past few years, but I was and remain grateful to have had the opportunity to undergo such an oblation at their direction — and of course I trusted them implicitly to guide me toward my health and their glory; and so they have.

My medication has been significant adjusted, I received some therapy, and I’ve made commitments to my health which extend far past my discharge: going back to therapy again on a regular basis, going to the gym, going to AA, &c. Most significantly I have been pulled back from the brink, put at a remove from serious suicidal ideation, and reminded that it could be much worse. No small things, to be sure, and all at the will and behest of my Lords.

It is impossible for me to say, really, to explain, how much I love the Divine Emperors and am grateful and thankful for their works wrought in my life. I know godslavery has something of a bad reputation amongst nudniks and malcontents, but sometimes it is the very heart of loving the glory of the Divine.

I started reading @/gammacarter ‘s Godslave comic (only several pages in). ​Haha again seeing parallels to my life that I don’t want to reveal just like “Suzy house of Miller”. If you don’t like “Set is a bad guy” trope, it might not be for you. For me it’s even harder to swallow the “all of the rest of the gods are enemies” trope except for Anubis. Based on his explanation that gods don’t want to die.

But um death was a pretty big part of the mythology that was a major thing that happened. I’ll just continue reading it. Also also don’t like how some of the Asian characters are drawn but idk the main character looks fine but the guy in business suit
