The female goat herders of Hadhramaut, Yemen

Goat herding is traditionally done by females in Eastern Yemen. The women cover all their skin from the heat and sun, protecting themselves from dehydration and skin damage, the socks and gloves keep their hands and feet soft despite the unforgiving desert sun. The hat (made from dried palm leaves) besides being a drip by itself serves an important role, it insulates air on top of their head thus keeping it cool, besides providing the obvious shade. The layered clothing also helps with the desert changing mood, where it can shift from hot days to cold nights.

The goat hero

The Goat Herd is currently my favorite Lego Minifigure. The first time I the Minifigure I must have been a bit exited because I read the name as "Goat Hero". So in my mind this character will always be just that.

The Harpys of mount Attavyros was starving. For more than 10 years they had not seen a goat. Mice and meager hares and was the best they could hope to find. It was their own fault of course. To ferociously had they hunted the goats on the mountain. The Goat Herders had been forced to look for pastures elsewhere.

But as the years had passed, younger Goat herders took over after their fathers. And some of them was foolish enough to ignore the stories of old. Some did not heed the warnings of their fathers not to bring their goats up mount Attavyros.

Aloeus was one of these foolish goat herders. But if you asked him it was not foolishness and disobedience that made him go up mountain. It was a lust for adventure, bravery and most of all he was tired of having to bring his goats to pastures far away. Aloeus would set an example, he would show the other herders that humans and not harpys had the right to the mountain.
