A vaguely human shape loomed from the dark.
The figure offered a hand, and Aziraphale took it warily. As their fingers touched, the noise of the festivities burst into Aziraphale’s ears: music, wordless laughter, dancing feet. They moved fully into the light and Aziraphale’s breath caught. His partner was beautiful. Yellow-gold eyes. Long red hair and a long body dressed in sleek black clothes, long fingers warm on his back as he was pressed into the throng.
They danced for hours. Had this been a ball in his mother’s castle, he would have stopped for food and wine, or to thank the musicians, or simply to rest. But here, things weren’t quite right. The steps of the dance were wrong, the music off-key...
I’d like to announce my contribution to the Good Omens Events’ Mystery event: a fairytale AU inspired by the story of the Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Please enjoy!

For @go-events OTP Prompts/Mystery Au event, @skimmingmilk and I’ve teamed up shocking, I know to bring you a 1940s mystery! Coming soon...
Tumblr media
Crowley looked over his shoulder, intrigued by such obvious displeasure at the idea of selling his books. He clearly had a fondness for the things, so there was some connection. He just couldn't decide what that was. This Aziraphale Fell was either an excellent actor or someone who shouldn't even bother having opening hours. “Not to buy, but now I'm curious about the errors.” Crowley wondered, making a turn in careful exploration of the space. He wanted to find that backroom, though the plush couch he nearly stumbled over neatly distracted from that idea. It was like stepping into someone's private living room, though the shelves still surrounded the space and he could see a desk crammed with even more books and some tools he couldn't immediately identify. Most interesting, though, was the mug with lipstick printed on the rim.
Perhaps there wasn't a backroom, per se. Business could likely be easily conducted right there in a space where customers were treated like pariahs. Something about the theory didn't quite sit right with him, though. There was clearly something happening, but what? “Guess she didn't get the same brush off you're trying with me.”
Aziraphale watched him in the same way one might watch a rat that promised not to take a single bite of food from the cupboard, and with the same amount of trust. “Who?” he asked after a moment, sounding legitimately confused.
“The lipstick-wearer you were having tea with.” Crowley’s grin returned. He didn't mind being a suspect. Things were often more fun that way. “Could be a he, I s'pose.”
“What are you talking about? I haven’t had tea yet. That’s why I have to close the shop.” He gestured towards the door, looking no more enlightened by Crowley’s response, though the confused crease in his brow did deepen. “Are you referring to Ms. Montgomery?”
Every bit of suspicion evaporated. Well, not every bit. Crowley wasn't a complete idiot, as evidenced by his continued aliveness. But enough of it did that his eyelids granted Aziraphale a rare, unseen blink. He'd named her. Like it was nothing. Like he wasn't doing a thing wrong. No one was this decent an actor. “There's a cup on your table with lipstick marks on it.”

The Angelus family’s prized heirloom, a sword that’s been in their family for generations, has gone missing. Gabriel – head of the family, after the recent death of the siblings’ mother – has called in a PI to help. But will Tracy and her nephew Crowley be able to track down the missing artefact? And what’s going on with the youngest Angelus sibling, Aziraphale?
This is my fic for the @go-events Mystery AU event! I’m really excited to be sharing this with you (mystery is not my usual genre, but it’s always cool to try something new!) and I really hope you like it.
You kind find out a little more about where I plan to go with this fic in the interview @forineffablereasons did with me here. And of course, thank you to @bisasterdi for running this event!

New Good Omens Fanwork Events
Tumblr media
Announcing two new Good Omens fanwork events, which will run concurrently from October through December of 2020.
Event 1: OTP Prompts
For this event, you can write/draw/create for any Good Omens characters and pairings, either canon or AU, as long as you are creating from a prompt you receive from the OTP Prompts generator. Please note that you MUST get a prompt from that specific generator to use in this event.
You will need a screenshot of the prompt from OTP Prompts you wish to use, but other than that, anything goes. You can create something of any length, and you'll only need a minimum of a first installment by your posting date in December.
The sign-up form for OTP Prompts can be found at https://forms.gle/NVsuTeq9nxvumgmq8, but it will not be open for responses until September 2, 2020 at 12 noon EST.
Event 2: MystAU
For this, you can write/draw/create anything relating to the mystery genre, using any Good Omens characters and pairings. (I'm encouraging AUs for this event for the aesthetic™ but if you want to stay in the canon universe, that's okay too.)
This is the definition of the mystery genre we're using for the event:
Mystery is a genre focused on a puzzling crime, situation, or circumstance that needs to be solved. The term comes from the Latin mysterium, meaning “a secret thing.” Works can be either fictional or nonfictional, and can focus on supernatural and/or non-supernatural topics. Many mystery stories involve what is called a “whodunit” scenario, meaning the mystery revolves around uncovering a culprit or criminal.
While use of a prompt generator isn't required for MystAU, I can recommend this mystery plot generator or either of these two lists of prompts [ 1 | 2 ] if you are trying to come up with ideas.
You only need to have a rough idea of a plot/concept when you sign up, maybe 3-4 sentences max, just to give us a general idea of what you'll be creating. As with the OTP Prompts event, you can create something of any length, and you'll only need a minimum of a first installment by your posting date in December.
The sign-up form for MystAU can be found at https://forms.gle/QxAyUTpwe8cFboka7, but it will not be open for responses until September 2, 2020 at 12 noon EST.
If you are considering a mystery story based on an existing mystery novel but the timing of this event is rough for you, GO-Events will also be running a Book AU event at the beginning of 2021, where we'll be creating GO fanworks based on any pre-existing published book, fiction or non-fiction, in any language.
These events are scheduled to run concurrently based on an interest survey this blog ran earlier this year, where both themes had general but not universal support, and many people who were interested in one of them had no interest in the other. That being said, if you wish to sign up for both, that is definitely allowed.
Sign-ups will begin for both events on September 2, 2020 at noon EST. Watch the GO-Events blog or follow the tag #go otp mystau to see all the updates, including a reminder when the sign-up forms go live.

I’m taking part in the @go-events OTP Prompts event! Coming soon, on 5th December 2020: How Much Your Nanny Loves You.
My prompt was “Crowley and Aziraphale finger painting with their child”, which I’ve interpreted as Nanny Ashtoreth and Brother Francis finger painting with Warlock. Stay tuned if you want some cute childcare-themed fluff!
Thank you to @bisasterdi and @forineffablereasons for running this event, and to @emberfaye for doing the lovely art in my banner (and Warlock’s art in the fic).
I can’t wait to share this fic with you all! Keep an eye out this Saturday...

Our favourite celestial pair look after Warlock Dowling together. Today's activity? Finger painting!
This was written for the @go-events OTP Prompts event with the prompt “Crowley and Aziraphale finger painting with their child”, which I’ve interpreted as Nanny Ashtoreth and Brother Francis finger painting with Warlock.
Thank you so much to @emberfaye for creating the lovely art in this fic, to @cumaeansibyl for doing a fantastic last-minute beta read, and of course to @bisasterdi and @forineffablereasons for running the event. You’re all so wonderful!!

Introducing the debut of Hear No Evil by @saunteringfromgrace, written as a part of the GO OTP Prompts event!
Crowley is sure his night can’t get any worse. It’s pouring down rain and his gate is stuck 5 inches from the ground. Then an angel in a tartan bow-tie stops to help him. He doesn’t seem phased by the fact that Crowley is deaf, and makes an extra effort to learn to speak to Crowley in his own language. It seems that everything is going right for once, until a secret from the angels past shows up in a three piece suit, hoping to destroy everything Crowley has worked so hard to build.

Future GO Fanwork Event Plans
Tumblr media
(Click this for full sized version)
Quick recap for anyone not familiar with the ongoing GO Rom Com Event: FAQ | Masterlist | Discord where you can read more/ask questions
After the Rom Com event is over, this blog will be transitioning to “GO Events”, and we’ll run five events over the course of 2020 and into 2021. (We ran a few surveys to gauge interest in lots of different event ideas, and these decisions were made based on the data gleaned from those results.)
Support/betaing/brainstorming/etc. will be available via our discord chat server for every event. Betas are not compulsory, but strongly suggested. More details about each event will be coming up closer to the event dates, but here is a quick rundown of the general concept for each event:
GO AU Fest: No angels or demons, AUs only, using GO characters. Fic, art, and other media welcomed. Prompts will be assigned via claims.
GO POV Pairs: Beginning with a list of canon-compliant story ideas, creators will sign up as an Aziraphale or a Crowley. Prompts will be given out to pairs via claims. Those pairs can work together or separately (you will specify a preference upon signup) but everyone will create a work to their prompt done solely from the POV of their chosen character.
GO MystAU: From a list of mystery genre plotlines (submissions accepted via Tumblr/Discord) participants will claim one and create a work based on it.
GO OTP Prompts Fest: We’ll collect writing/art prompts from places such as the OTP prompts generator and other prompts lists. Artists and writers would claim a prompt from the resulting list and create a work based on it.
GO Book AU: We’ll compile a list of classic books, and then participants will claim one to adapt using GO characters. (This event has been positioned late in the event cycle because I believe it may take the most planning on the part of the participants. We will likely start the claims process long before the previous event has wrapped up to give everyone extra time to brainstorm and plan.)
MystAU and the OTP Prompts events were both high scoring as far as votes and 1st/2nd/3rd place rankings went, but also had a high number of low rankings. When their rankings were compared, I found that many people who liked one of the ideas disliked the other. When we run these events concurrently, hopefully people who aren’t interested in one will feel drawn to the other, and we can have more participants and works to enjoy.
At the conclusion of the Rom Com event, the name of this blog and the discord will be changing to transition into the next series of events. Thanks to all who participated in the survey(s), and I hope to see many of you either creating or enjoying all the works we’ll be creating for GO in the next year.
